Streptococcus equi subsp. equi infection in horses produces fever, abscessation and lymphadenopathy. Despite associated with low mortality, the infection comes with fatal sequelae in the form of guttural pouch empyema, purpura hemorrhagica, amongst few. Of the 25 cases, recovered from equine distemper, 14 were again presented with signs of pitting edema of the extremities; petechial haemorrhages of the mucosae and subcutaneous tissue were diagnosed for purpura hemorrhagica on the basis of history and clinical signs. Out of 14 horses, 10 cases were successfully treated with tapering corticosteroid therapy along with supportive care of antibiotics and NSAID while 4 died due to severity of infection. Direct fed microorganisms (DFM) can be fed to livestock during stressful conditions viz. production stress, environmental stress, sudden change in feed or disease. These DFM maintain anaerobic environment in rumen, stabilize ruminal pH, increase ruminal microbial activity and digestibility, increase feed efficiency, decrease methane emission, provide growth factors, increased milk yield and protein, increase digestibility, reduce fecal shedding of pathogens, enhance humoral immunity. In calves, DFM can alter intestinal environment and reduce chances of indigestion, diarrhoea and weight loss affecting overall growth of calves. Osteomalacia is a common deficiency disorder in adult buffaloes of Marathwada, reared in draught areas or phosphorous deficient soil. The buffaloes showed typical signs of arched back, stiff gait and progressive loss of body weight. The condition was diagnosed on the basis of history, clinical signs exhibited, decreased in inorganic phosphorous and calcium levels and absence of any foreign body syndrome. Background: In the view of endemic avian influenza H9N2 infection in poultry, its zoonotic potential and emergence of antiviral resistance, two herbal plants, Ocimum sanctum and Acacia arabica, which are easily available throughout various geographical locations in India were taken up to study their antiviral activity against H9N2 virus. We evaluated antiviral efficacy of three different extracts each from leaves of O. sanctum (crude extract, terpenoid and polyphenol) and A. arabica (crude extract, flavonoid and polyphenol) against H9N2 virus using in ovo model. Methods: The antiviral efficacy of different leaves extracts was systematically studied in three experimental protocols viz. virucidal (dose-dependent), therapeutic (time-dependent) and prophylactic (dose-dependent) activity employing in ovo model. The maximum non-toxic concentration of each herbal extracts of O. sanctum and A. arabica in the specific pathogen free embryonated chicken eggs was estimated and their antiviral efficacy was determined in terms of reduction in viral titres, measured by Haemagglutination (HA) and real time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assays. Results: All the extracts of O. sanctum (crude extract, terpenoid and polyphenol) and A. arabica (crude extract, flavonoid and polyphenol) showed significant virucidal activity, however, crude extractocimum and terpenoidocimum showed highly significant to significant (p < 0.001–0.01) decrease in virus genome copy numbers with lowest dose tested. Similarly, therapeutic effect was observed in all three extracts of O. sanctum in comparison to the virus control, nevertheless, crude extractocimum and terpenoidocimum maintained this effect for longer period of time (up to 72 h post-incubation). None of the leaves extracts of A. arabica had therapeutic effect at 24 and 48 h post-incubation, however, only the crude extractacacia and polyphenolacacia showed delayed therapeutic effect (72 h post-inoculation). Prophylactic potential was observed in polyphenolacacia with highly significant antiviral activity compared to virus control (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The crude extract and terpenoid isolated from the leaves of O. sanctum and polyphenol from A. arabica has shown promising antiviral properties against H9N2 virus. Future investigations are necessary to formulate combinations of these compounds for the broader antiviral activity against H9N2 viruses and evaluate them in chickens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The total bacterial count, total coliform count and isolations of coprological samples of different herbivore, carnivore, avian and rodents were studied. The study revealed that E. coli, Bacillus spp., Shigella spp., Clostridium perfringens, Staphylococcus spp., Pseudomonas spp., Salmonella spp. and Klebsiella spp. of bacteria were isolated from apparently healthy zoo animals. Atopic dermatitis was diagnosed in eighteen (18) dogs and treatment was evaluated comparatively with three different therapeutic protocols. Prednisolone along with Tacrolimus and fatty oil supplementation was found to be the most effective therapy, without any untoward complication, than prednisolone and Dexamethasone alone. Strategic and systemic use of biocide is a requirement to mitigate the problem of resistance along with decrease frequency of treatment. Therapeutic and persistent efficacy of single subcutaneous injection of long acting Ivermectin at a concentration of 630 μg/kg b.wt. Therapeutic efficacy of Eprinomectin pour on was evaluated in 24 bovines (18 cattle + 6 buffaloes) infested with Boophilus spp. and Hyalomma spp. of ticks. Single application of Eprinomectin pour on was able to eliminate 76.09% and 94.98% of tick infestation on 3rd and 7th day post treatment. The article focuses on the management of delayed puberty in Marathwadi buffalo heifers. Two groups of Marathwadi buffaloes were used in the study, with the first treated with chelated mineral supplement and the second group not given any treatment at all. Among the 10 treated buffaloes, nine exhibited oestrus following chelated mineral treatment, while conception rate was at 70 percent. In the control group, only one heifer exhibited oestrus, while overall conception rate was at 16.66 percent.

The article discusses a study which assessed the effectiveness of herbo mineral formulation in treating subclinical mastitis (SCM) in crossbred cows. At the end of the experiment, all the affected cows were found negative for SCM by performing California Mastitis Test (CMT).
