This paper considers the relationship between biophilia and well-being in a sample of users of urban green spaces in the city of Porto (Portugal) as a case study. The biophilia hypothesis is explored through the responses of 131 participants in a survey. Users of urban green spaces valued their provision of quiet and shade, with a high diversity of plant species and tranquillity. The survey also found that being satisfied with urban green spaces enhances self-perceived health status, which means that being satisfied with a green space that fulfils users' expectations can be a way to improve well-being in urban areas. Background & Aim: A healthy work environment is one in which workers and managers cooperate in the process of continuous improvement regarding the protection, and promotion of workers' health and well-being, for the sake of work sustainability. The current state of the art shows that an unfavourable work environment contributes to nurses' dissatisfaction, burnout and emotional exhaustion, and the intention to leave the workplace/service. This study aimed to identify the Nurses' Work Environment in a small Portuguese Hospital, diagnose the situation, and focus on a healthy work environment. Methods and Materials: This is a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study, with a convenience sample of 90 nurses. The "Escala de Ambiente de Trabalho da Prática de Enfermagem" (Nursing Practice Work Environment Scale), validated and adapted by Ferreira & Amendoeira (2014) for the Portuguese population, was applied. The statistical treatment was performed using SPSS 27. Results: The sample is mostly composed of female nurses (87%) with an average age of 26 years, and 75.5% are single. The dimension "Management and Leadership of the Head Nurse" had a mean value of x2=3.3 (out of 4) and s=0.5, which was the dimension with the best assessment. The dimension with less encouraging results was "Nurses' Participation in Hospital Affairs" with x2=2.8 (out of 4) and s=0.7. Overall, all domains assessed had a mean value above 2.5, which was considered a favourable work environment by the nurses. Conclusion: The results, although generally satisfactory, show the need to carefully intervene and assess each dimension in an integrated perspective, to promote a healthy work environment and workers' well-being, since its imbalance may negatively affect quality of their work, impacting the quality of health care provided to the user. In addition, these results should be understood as an important factor to be considered in the design of future care teams. The COVID-19 pandemic scenario has a psychological impact on individuals and society. A higher level of perceived risk concerning COVID-19 has been found when compared to other potential health threats. A misperception of risk in contrast with the real risk may lead people to develop disruptive cognitive, affective, or behavioral responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, namely, coronaphobia. Validated instruments are needed to evaluate such responses. This work aims to validate the COVID-19 Perceived Risk Scale (C19PRS) and the COVID-19 Phobia Scale (C19PS) in the Portuguese population. The two scales were translated from English to Portuguese using the back-translation technique. The cultural adaptation was framed in the context of establishing the validity and reliability of the instruments. In two studies, C19PRS and C19PS were validated for the adult Portuguese population (N = 1122; women = 725 (64.6%); mean age of 31.91 years old) through exploratory factorial analysis, followed by a confirmatory factorial analysis. Convergent validity was calculated by composite reliability (CR) and average variance extracted (AVE) values. Discriminant validity was assessed by square roots of the AVE values and their comparison with the C19PRS and C19PS dimensions’ cross-correlations. Both C19PRS and C19PS present a good adjustment model and solid reliability and validity and have significant correlations with fear of COVID-19 and COVID-19 anxiety scales. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Religion is a construct widely present in most people’s lives. Religious motivations, either intrinsic or extrinsic, as well as religious centrality, are crucial aspects of religion. In the Portuguese population, there are no validated instruments to assess these aspects of religion. Accordingly, this study intends to validate the Intrinsic Religious Motivation Scale (IRMS) and the Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS) for the Portuguese population. This is a validation study whose sample consists of 326 participants (73.1% women) from the general population. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were carried out and the correlations between the constructs and self-compassion were determined to assess the convergent and divergent validity. The results obtained confirm the existence of models adjusted to the population, allowing us to conclude that the instruments are reliable for assessing the studied constructs. The validation of the IRMS and CRS for the Portuguese population is of outstanding importance, as it provides researchers in the field with valid instruments and psychometric qualities to carry out research within religion and religiosity. Purpose: The objective of this study was to assess the worker's health (WH) risk, focused on sustainable development in a work context and based on the development and application of the Worker's Health Risk Index (WHRI) in the oil extraction and production industry in Bahia, Brazil. Design/methodology/approach: The sample, obtained by quota sampling, comprised 965 participants. The development stage integrated a group of 10 specialists, including physicians, nurses, nutritionists, dentists and physical educators, all specialists in the WH area, as well as 3 experts in the area of data science. Three risk ranges were defined: "Low", "Moderate" and "High". Findings: The WHRI validation revealed reliability and reproducibility, as well as the ability to identify differences among the population studied according to sex, age group and education level. The results indicate that the WH risk is higher in men, aged above 50 years old and with a low level of education (p < 0.001). 74% of the participants are in the "Low", 21% in the "Moderate" and 5% in the "High" risk ranges. High-risk workers are also those with diabetes mellitus, altered triglyceride or glycemia levels, hypertension, poor oral hygiene and periodontal conditions, tobacco use, low levels of physical activity (all with p < 0.05), or alcohol abuse. Originality/Value: The WHRI's major contribution is to make available a useful tool for the identification of WH risk, helping to define clearer health promotion, prevention and intervention policies in the context of WH. The crescent population concentration in cities is recognized as one of the main contemporary challenges. It is in cities that social and environmental challenges are increasing, which implies a look at the sustainable urban planning. Urban green spaces play an important role in responding to such challenges, specifically through ecosystem services. Cultural services gain special importance, particularly in improving the mental, physical, and social health of its users. This work aims to examine the uses and perceptions of users of gardens and public parks in the city of Porto, as well as how these same spaces are meeting their needs, establishing a relationship with their location considering greater or lesser socio-economic and environmental deprivation. A survey is being conducted to the users of 25 gardens and public access parks and a discussion on the preliminary results obtained (n=131) is proposed. The results provide a sketch of the profile of potential users of these spaces, besides revealing that the spaces of the city with greater socio-economic and environmental deprivation are perceived by their users as green spaces with lower quality. It is expected that the results can help to define attraction strategies for the green spaces of the city with lower quality and in areas of higher deprivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article aims to discuss and reflect about some results of a research which main objective was to know and analyse the symbolic field of the city of Porto and its representations through the students of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto. By choosing a convenience sample, an online questionnaire survey was applied resulting in a set of 108 valid answers. In order to know the mental images of the students, 5 mental maps were collected. The results make it possible to know and deconstruct the city by the student's eyes through a reading of their mental organization they do from it and the elements that they identify as guiding in the space. The text reflects on the importance of the religious structures ruins as powerful elements in the interpretation and construction of the local memories of the space where they are inserted. The chapel of Senhor Jesus d'Além, dating from the 19th century, located in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, in Portugal, is the case study chosen. In ruins and in a state of degradation, many are the historical elements that make possible the interpretation of everyday lives of the city during its period of operation.
