Abstract

The $L_{\mu}-L_{\tau}$ extension of the standard model predicts the existence of a lepton-flavor-universality-violating $Z^{\prime}$ boson that couples only to the heavier lepton families. We search for such a $Z^\prime$ through its invisible decay in the process $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^- Z^{\prime}$. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58GeV collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019-2020, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79.7fb$^{-1}$. We find no excess over the expected standard-model background. We set 90$\%$-confidence-level upper limits on the cross section for this process as well as on the coupling of the model, which ranges from $3 \times 10^{-3}$ at low $Z^{\prime}$ masses to 1 at $Z^{\prime}$ masses of 8$GeV/c^{2}$.

Abstract

We present the novel implementation of a non-differentiable metric approximation and a corresponding loss-scheduling aimed at the search for new particles of unknown mass in high energy physics experiments. We call the loss-scheduling, based on the minimisation of a figure-of-merit related function typical of particle physics, a Punzi-loss function, and the neural network that utilises this loss function a Punzi-net. We show that the Punzi-net outperforms standard multivariate analysis techniques and generalises well to mass hypotheses for which it was not trained. This is achieved by training a single classifier that provides a coherent and optimal classification of all signal hypotheses over the whole search space. Our result constitutes a complementary approach to fully differentiable analyses in particle physics. Abstract

The Lμ−Lτ extension of the standard model predicts the existence of a lepton-flavor-universality-violating Z′ boson that couples only to the heavier lepton families. We search for such a Z′ through its invisible decay in the process e+e−→μ+μ−Z′. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019–2020, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79.7 fb−1. We find no excess over the expected standard-model background. We set 90%-confidence-level upper limits on the cross section for this process as well as on the coupling of the model, which ranges from 3×10−3 at low Z′ masses to 1 at Z′ masses of 8 GeV/c2.

Abstract

We present the novel implementation of a non-differentiable metric approximation and a corresponding loss-scheduling aimed at the search for new particles of unknown mass in high energy physics experiments. We call the loss-scheduling, based on the minimisation of a figure-of-merit related function typical of particle physics, a Punzi-loss function, and the neural network that utilises this loss function a Punzi-net. We show that the Punzi-net outperforms standard multivariate analysis techniques and generalises well to mass hypotheses for which it was not trained. This is achieved by training a single classifier that provides a coherent and optimal classification of all signal hypotheses over the whole search space. Our result constitutes a complementary approach to fully differentiable analyses in particle physics. We implemented this work using PyTorch and provide users full access to a public repository containing all the codes and a training example.

Abstract

The $L_{\mu}-L_{\tau}$ extension of the standard model predicts the existence of a lepton-flavor-universality-violating $Z^{\prime}$ boson that couples only to the heavier lepton families. We search for such a $Z^\prime$ through its invisible decay in the process $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^- Z^{\prime}$. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58GeV collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019-2020, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79.7fb$^{-1}$. We find no excess over the expected standard-model background. We set 90$\%$-confidence-level upper limits on the cross section for this process as well as on the coupling of the model, which ranges from $3 \times 10^{-3}$ at low $Z^{\prime}$ masses to 1 at $Z^{\prime}$ masses of 8$GeV/c^{2}$.

Abstract

We have analysed homotypic adhesion induced by the phorbol ester TPA in EBV-immortalized Down's syndrome (trisomy 21) and normal lymphoblastold cell lines. Our results show that the trisomy 21 cells aggregated more readily than normal cells. The aggregation of the two types of cell was blocked effectively by the addition of monoclonal antibodies to the α and β chains (CD11a, CD18) of lymphocyte function-associated antigen (LFA-), but not by monoclonal antibodies to LFA-3 and the α chain of p150,95 (CD11c). Since TPA did not increase the expression of CD18 on trisoiny 21 cells, we conclude that the increased adhesiveness is the result of over-expression of CD18 as a result of gene dosage. Abstract

The article highlights the speciality fiber of textile. The fibers identified as speciality hairs consist of cashmere, camel hair, alpaca, vicuna and mohair. These speciality hairs possess little or no felting property and luster and the fibers are straighter and smoother than wool. The surface of each of the fibers has a characteristic appearance and scale formation, with a natural color, including a small percentage of white. Also, most of the speciality fibers have greater warmth-retaining power than wool. The most important of these hairs is the cashmere, in which the finest garments are made from under hair, separated from the coarse by a combination of ingenious processes in carding and combing.

Abstract

The study of mutations in the factor VIII gene that cause hemophilia A has provided new insights into the variety and nature of mutations in man. These new insights are the relative susceptibility of CpG dinucleotides to mutation and the observation of insertions of LINE repetitive elements via retrotransposition, Using DNA polymorphisms for indirect detection of defective factor VIII genes, accurate prenatal diagnosis and carrier detection can now be performed in most families with hemophilia A.

The article provides information on British wool grade names. The breed name designates the type or grade of wool only. The four properties of wool include the characteristic of wool clothing which provides warmth to a much greater degree than other fibers, the power of absorption of moisture and the retention of moisture. The characteristics of wool are fineness, handle or the degree of softness, color, length of staple, springiness, crimp, luster, strength, faultiness and style. Many grades follow on where the breed name is used. The applications of British wool are wide and more users will show interest in this commodity.

Abstract

The article discusses the different varieties of merino tops based on their quality and prices. Bradford 64's warp and weft top which only differed in length was regarded as the standard type since it was made from high quality of textile fiber. The shabby types of merino tops have average length and can be purchased cheaply. It was also inferred that these fibers were mostly used by the hosiery trade. Other classifications included the denomination 60's, 66's and 70's which were restricted naturally.

Abstract

Background: This article aims to understand moral distress in carers of people with an intellectual disability during the COVID-19 pandemic., Method: Nine staff carers of seven people with an intellectual disability, who had been participants of the IDS-TILDA study in Ireland, who died during the COVID-19 pandemic participated in in-depth, semi-structured telephone interviews. Template analysis was used to analyze the interviews., Results: Obstructions in performing their duties left carers feeling powerless and experiencing moral conflict distress, moral constraint distress and moral uncertainty distress. Most managed to connect to the moral dimension in their work through peer support, understanding they fulfilled the wishes of the deceased, and/or thinking about how they or others did the best they could for the person they were caring for., Conclusions: This research demonstrates that while restrictions may have been effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19, they were potentially damaging to carer wellbeing., (© 2023 The Authors.
