Abstract Background Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular protozoan parasite that is widely distributed in humans and warm-blooded animals. T. gondii chronic infections can cause toxoplasmic encephalopathy, adverse pregnancy, and male reproductive disorders. In male reproduction, the main function of the testis is to provide a stable place for spermatogenesis and immunological protection. The disorders affecting testis tissue encompass abnormalities in the germ cell cycle, spermatogenic retardation, or complete cessation of sperm development. However, the mechanisms of interaction between T. gondii and the reproductive system is unclear. The aims were to study the expression levels of genes related to spermatogenesis, following T. gondii infection, in mouse testicular tissue. Methods RNA-seq sequencing was carried out on mouse testicular tissues from mice infected or uninfected with the T. gondii type II Prugniaud (PRU) strain and validated in combination with real-time quantitative PCR and immunofluorescence assays. Abstract Background The incidence of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) is rising rapidly worldwide. However, there are few reports on these heterogeneous diseases in China. Our study aimed to explore the epidemiological characteristics of NENs in Beijing. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study using population-based cancer surveillance data in Beijing, China. All data were extracted from the Beijing Cancer Registry with incidence dates from 1 January 1998 to 31 December 2018; the follow-up period was through 31 December 2021. Segi’s world standard population was used to estimate the age-standardized rate. Survival was estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method. Results From 1998 to 2018, the incidence of NENs in Beijing initially showed a significant increasing trend, from 1.07/100,000 to 3.53/100,000; this began to plateau after 2013. The age-specific incidence rate increased with age and peaked in the age group 70–74 years. The incidence in men was significantly higher than that in women (4.41/100,000 vs. 1.69/100,000). The most common sites of NENs were the lung (2.38/100,000) and rectum (0.14/100,000). Most NENs were diagnosed at a late stage. We found that NENs originating from the lung had worse overall survival than extrapulmonary NENs, and male patients had worse survival than female patients. Conclusions This study retrospectively analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of NENs in Beijing from 1998 to 2018. Our findings provide a reference regarding the epidemiological statistics of NENs in Beijing to contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these specific tumors.

Abstract The response of vegetation to climate change on a large scale should be studied at the community level rather than the species level. This necessitates a focused exploration of emerging spatial patterns. Here, we surveyed 264 sites in the Inner Mongolia typical steppe, using the “needling” method to investigate 39,600 clumps formed through the coexistence relationships of dominant species. We found that the effects of slow climate change on grassland communities can be categorized into two general trends: (1) a monotone relationship, characterized by changes in the number of dominant species, compositional diversity, and optimal patch area, and (2) a unimodal relationship, reflected in variations in the number of patches and interspecific associations. The two distinct trends, connected by optimal patch area, concurrently support both the habitat amount hypothesis and the intermediate disturbance hypothesis. These findings suggest that climate change indirectly influences the area and amount of vegetation patches by regulating the arrangement of clumps. Moreover, they indicate that it is the distribution, rather than the number, of species that serves as the front line for plant communities adapting to climate change.

The arthropod communities are important component in grassland ecosystems and are largely affected by management. However, the information on the effects of different grassland management on ground-dwelling predatory arthropods are very limited, especially for the natural steppe grasslands in semi-arid regions. Here we investigated the dynamic patterns of predatory arthropod communities (Carabidae and Araneida) using the Pitfall-trap method in the grasslands subject to 6 management treatments of full-season grazing, spring-summer grazing, summer grazing, summer-autumn grazing, autumn mowing, and unused grassland in a natural steppe grassland in central Inner Mongolia; each management treatment was replicated by three experimental paddocks. The results showed that (i) a total of 305 ground-dwelling predatory arthropods were captured, belonging to 31 genera, 11 families, 2 orders and 2 classes; and the dominant genera were Craspedonotus, Harpalus, Pardosa and Gnaphosa, accounting for 14.75%, 12.79%, 11.15% and 15.74% of the total genera, respectively. (ii) Compared to unused grassland, grazing significantly reduced the individual number, biomass and genus diversity of ground-dwelling predatory arthropods, and these inverse impacts were smaller under summer-autumn grazing than other grazing; while autumn mowing increased the biomass of the arthropods in summer. (iii) Grazing and mowing had bigger effects on the large than small ground-dwelling predatory arthropods. Our results deepen the understanding of the dynamic patterns of ground-dwelling predatory arthropods in grasslands subject to different management, and it is important to take these dynamic patterns in evaluating management effects on grassland ecosystems, especially for the development of sustainable grassland management systems.

Recognizing the sensitivity of vegetation to precipitation is fundamental to monitoring and assessing ecosystem health and predicting ecosystem response to climate change. However, there is a lack of detailed, large-scale assessment of the sensitivity of temperate vegetation to climate variability. We analyzed the spatiotemporal trends of NDVI in Inner Mongolia (IM) for the period from 2000 to 2020, evaluated the sensitivity of NDVI to precipitation by constructing a linear mixed-effects model, and assessed the relative importance of an array of biotic and abiotic factors in affecting the vegetation sensitivity to precipitation using random forest models. We found that (1) the NDVI in IM had a significant or slight increase in 80.86% of the region during the studied two decades, though it showed a large inter-annual fluctuation, and the areas with stable or decreasing NDVI were mainly in the desert areas. Precipitation and wind speed were the two major drivers for the NDVI changes. (2) The typical steppes demonstrated the highest sensitivity to precipitation, followed by desert steppes and forest steppes, broad-leaved forests, and deserts and coniferous forests. (3) The major factor affecting the vegetation sensitivity to precipitation varied with vegetation types; it is temperature in the coniferous forests, forest steppes and steppe deserts, but it is the sunshine hours in the deciduous broad-leaved forests, the typical steppes, and the desert steppes. The high sensitivity of the typical steppe vegetation to precipitation is related with its location on climate gradient, it has a high production potential but limited by precipitation under a semiarid climate. Our analysis deepens the understanding of the NDVI sensitivity to precipitation and its influencing factors in different vegetation regions, and is valuable for predicting vegetation changes and developing vegetation management strategies to adapt to climate changes.

Micro-expression is extensively studied due to their ability to fully reflect individuals' genuine emotions. However, accurate micro-expression recognition is a challenging task due to the subtle motion of facial muscle. Therefore, this paper introduces a Graph Attention Mechanism-based Motion Magnification Guided Micro-Expression Recognition Network (GAM-MM-MER) to amplify delicate muscle motions and focus on key facial landmarks. First, we propose a Swin Transformer-based network for micro-expression motion magnification (ST-MEMM) to enhance the subtle motions in micro-expression videos, thereby unveiling imperceptible facial muscle movements. Then, we propose a graph attention mechanism-based network for micro-expression recognition (GAM-MER), which optimizes facial key area maps and prioritizes adjacent nodes crucial for mitigating the influence of noisy neighbors, while attending to key feature information. Finally, experimental evaluations conducted on the CASME II and SAMM datasets demonstrate the high accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed network compared to state-of-the-art approaches. The results of our network exhibit significant superiority over existing methods. Furthermore, ablation studies provide compelling evidence of the robustness of our proposed network, substantiating its efficacy in micro-expression recognition.

IntroductionPine wilt disease spreads rapidly, leading to the death of a large number of pine trees. Exploring the corresponding prevention and control measures for different stages of pine wilt disease is of great significance for its prevention and control.MethodsTo address the issue of rapid detection of pine wilt in a large field of view, we used a drone to collect multiple sets of diseased tree samples at different times of the year, which made the model trained by deep learning more generalizable. This research improved the YOLO v4(You Only Look Once version 4) network for detecting pine wilt disease, and the channel attention mechanism module was used to improve the learning ability of the neural network.ResultsThe ablation experiment found that adding the attention mechanism SENet module combined with the self-designed feature enhancement module based on the feature pyramid had the best improvement effect, and the mAP of the improved model was 79.91%.DiscussionComparing the improved YOLO v4 model with SSD, Faster RCNN, YOLO v3, and YOLO v5, it was found that the mAP of the improved YOLO v4 model was significantly higher than the other four models, which provided an efficient solution for intelligent diagnosis of pine wood nematode disease. The improved YOLO v4 model enables precise location and identification of pine wilt trees under changing light conditions. Deployment of the model on a UAV enables large-scale detection of pine wilt disease and helps to solve the challenges of rapid detection and prevention of pine wilt disease.

Accurately detecting tea bud leaves is crucial for the automation of tea picking robots. However, challenges arise due to tea stem occlusion and overlapping of buds and leaves, presenting varied shapes of one bud–one leaf targets in the field of view, making precise segmentation of tea bud leaves challenging. To improve the segmentation accuracy of one bud–one leaf targets with different shapes and fine granularity, this study proposes a novel semantic segmentation model for tea bud leaves. The method designs a hierarchical Transformer block based on a self-attention mechanism in the encoding network, which is beneficial for capturing long-range dependencies between features and enhancing the representation of common features. Then, a multi-path feature aggregation module is designed to effectively merge the feature outputs of encoder blocks with decoder outputs, thereby alleviating the loss of fine-grained features caused by downsampling. Furthermore, a refined polarized attention mechanism is employed after the aggregation module to perform polarized filtering on features in channel and spatial dimensions, enhancing the output of fine-grained features. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed Unet-Enhanced model achieves segmentation performance well on one bud–one leaf targets with different shapes, with a mean intersection over union (mIoU) of 91.18% and a mean pixel accuracy (mPA) of 95.10%. The semantic segmentation network can accurately segment tea bud leaves, providing a decision-making basis for the spatial positioning of tea picking robots.

Abstract Background We aimed to assess the performance of the risk assessment questionnaire and fecal immunochemical test (FIT) in a population-based colorectal cancer (CRC) screening program to provide timely evidence for tailored screening strategies in China. Methods This analysis was conducted using data from Beijing Cancer Screening Prospective Cohort Study (BCSPCS). A risk assessment questionnaire and FIT were selected as the primary screening methods, and participants with any positive results were referred to undergo a diagnostic colonoscopy. Results From 2015 to 2020, 148,636 Beijing residents aged 40–69 years were invited from designated communities, with 147,807 finishing the risk assessment questionnaire and 115,606 (78.2%) completing the FIT. Among the 42,969 (29.1%) high-risk CRC participants, 23,824 (55.4%) underwent colonoscopy. One year after enrollment, all subjects were linked to the Beijing Cancer Registry (BCR) database and 241 cases of CRC were confirmed. The CRC incidence rate was 58.2/100,000 for the low-risk arm and 418.9/100,000 for the high-risk arm. For participants who underwent colonoscopy, 91 CRC cases were detected, with a detection rate of 91.9% and 63.7% of them were early-stage cases. Furthermore, the sensitivities of utilizing the risk assessment questionnaire alone, FIT alone, combined risk assessment questionnaire and FIT were 75.7%, 50.1%, and 95.1%, and the specificities were 75.3%, 87.3%, and 70.7%, respectively. Conclusion The Beijing CRC screening program can effectively detect early-onset CRC; however, the compliance with colonoscopy still needs to be improved.

BackgroundToxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is a significant protozoan pathogen among food animals. Despite the threat to public health by T. gondii infections, there’s limited understanding of its seroprevalence and trends in food animals across mainland China. This study aimed to estimate the seroprevalence of T. gondii infections among swine, sheep, goats, chickens, and cattle in mainland China from 2010 to 2023.MethodsWe searched cross-sectional studies published between 2010 and 2023 that reported the prevalence of T. gondii in food animals from databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine Disc (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang data, and the China Science and Technology Journal Database (CQVIP). We performed subgroup analyses to explore the impact of different factors on the seroprevalence of T. gondii. Pooled estimates of T. gondii seroprevalence were calculated with a random-effects model.ResultsAn analysis of 184 studies involving 211985 animals revealed a T. gondii overall seroprevalence of 15.3% (95% CI: 13.1-17.8). Although the seroprevalence of food animals across mainland China was relatively stable from 2010 to 2023, notable variations were observed across different animal types and regions (P < 0.01), along with changes in geographical distribution. Sample type, detection method, animal age, and history of abortion were identified as key risk factors for T. gondii seroprevalence.ConclusionThe study conducted a meta-analysis on the seroprevalence of T. gondii in mainland China’s Food Animals from 2010 to 2023, and identified key risk factors. These findings advance our understanding of T. gondii infection dynamics, offering critical insights for developing control strategies and guiding public health policies.

This work expands the functionality of fish scale gelatin (FSG) as a carrier of hydrophobic bioactive substances. The hydrophobicity of FSG was enhanced to promote its interaction with hydrophobic curcumin and to increase its bioavailability. This results in a remarkable increase in the curcumin loading capacity of acid-hydrolyzed FSG (HFSG) from 1.08 ± 0.08 μg/mg (0 h) to 9.15 ± 0.21 μg/mg (3 h). The amino acid composition indicated that acid hydrolysis effectively increased the ratio of hydrophobic amino acids of FSG. Acid hydrolysis facilitated the transformation of the α-helical conformation into a β-sheet structure. Hydrophobic interactions between HFSG and curcumin were strengthened by moderate acid hydrolysis. A sustained-release profile emerged for the curcumin-loaded HFSG during simulated gastrointestinal digestion, thereby improving the bioaccessibility and bioavailability of curcumin. These findings contribute to the application of acid hydrolysis in modifying FSG for enhanced hydrophobicity and curcumin loading capacity in the food industry.

TIR1/AFB proteins are a class of auxin receptors with key roles in plant development and biotic and abiotic stress responses; several have been identified as targets of the auxin-mimicking herbicide picloram. In this study, we identified five putative TIR1/AFB gene family members in the important vegetable crop Solanum melongena (eggplant) and characterized them using bioinformatics tools and gene expression analyses. Phylogenetic analysis of the TIR1/AFBs classified them into three subgroups based on their Arabidopsis and Solanum lycopersicum homologs. AFB6 homologs were present only in S. melongena and S. lycopersicum, whereas AFB2/3 homologs were found only in Arabidopsis. One pair of S. melongena TIR1 homologs were located in syntenic regions in the genome and appeared to have arisen by segmental duplication. Promoter analysis revealed 898 cis-elements in the TIR1/AFB promoters, 125 of which were related to hormones, stress, light, or growth responses, but only SmAFB5 had a cis-acting regulatory element involved in auxin responsiveness (AuxRR-core). RNA sequencing and expression profiling showed that the TIR1/AFB genes were differentially expressed at different growth stages and in response to light, temperature, and drought. Only SmTIR1A expression was significantly induced by picloram treatment and different growth stages. TIR1/AFB expression is regulated by microRNAs (miRNAs) in other plant species, and we identified 6 or 29 miRNAs that potentially targeted the five TIR1/AFB genes on the basis of comparisons with S. lycopersicum and S. tuberosum miRNAs, respectively. Three-dimensional protein structure predictions revealed that all the TIR1/AFB proteins were very similar in structure, differing only in the numbers of alpha helices and in one angle linking an α helix and a β sheet. For measuring the function of TIR1/AFB genes in response to drought, SmAFB5 was selected, and knockdown by virus-induced gene silence (VIGS) 35S::SmAFB5 lines showed resistance to drought compared to controls. These analyses provide insight into the potential functions of TIR1/AFBs during growth and in response to stress; they highlight differences among the SmTIR1/AFBs that may be useful for eggplant breeding.

The main purpose of this work is to develop a transient analytical model of an industrial tea dryer based on the theory of heat and mass balance, and provide the variation characteristics in tea moisture content and drying air temperature throughout the whole drying process in the drying chamber. A numerical simulation focusing on the established transient analytical model was conducted, and the simulation results show that the moisture content of tea in the drying chamber performs a descend trend along the flow direction over drying time, while the temperature of the dry air performs an ascend trend along the flow direction of tea. The variations coefficient for the tea moisture content and the dry air temperature in the whole drying chamber were determined to be 0.009–0.09 and 0.065–0.126, respectively, indicating that the overall drying process is relatively stable. An actual production drying test was conducted to validate the analytical model, the test results showed that under dynamic drying conditions, the dynamic changes in tea moisture content and dry air temperature in the drying warehouse are consistent with the corresponding trends predicted by the model. Besides, the determination coefficient of tea moisture content is greater than 0.99, the determination coefficient of dry air in the initial drying period is 0.8027, while it is determined to be 0.9872 in the redrying period. The predicted results of the model are in good agreement with the experimental results, which confirms the effectiveness and reliability of the model. The developed transient analytical model can provide a certain reference for the anaphase development of energy optimization, dynamic state monitoring, and parameter matching systems for tea dryer.

Vegetation in China has experienced significant improvements under the combined effects of human activities and climate change. However, when exploring the effects of climate change on vegetation dynamics, existing studies mainly focus on two meteorological factors (temperature and precipitation) and rarely consider aerosol optical depth (AOD) and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Therefore, in this study, we further explored the potential dependence of leaf area index (LAI) on temperature (Tem), precipitation (Pre), AOD, and PAR, based on the analysis of the spatiotemporal variations of LAI in different vegetation types in China. Results showed that the LAI increased significantly from 2001 to 2020, with an overall growth rate of 0.0202/yr; the response of LAI for different vegetation types to each influencing factor varied greatly, and the deciduous broadleaf forests were more sensitive to climate change. Quantitative analysis based on the GeoDetector method showed that the most important driving force of LAI change is Pre (0.596); while Tem (0.394) and AOD (0.325) showed similar effects; by contrast, PAR (0.279) had the lowest driving force on LAI. Among them, the change of Pre is the dominant factor affecting LAI for most vegetation types. From the perspective of regional research, we found that the increase of LAI in the South was greater than that in North China, while human activities (urbanization) were unfavorable to the increase of LAI, such as the Yangtze River Delta where the LAI decreased significantly. This study contributes to a better understanding of the response of different vegetation types to climate and atmospheric changes in China over the past 20 years and provides a scientific reference for developing and implementing ecological restoration measures and promoting sustainable development. Overall, China is 'turning green', and air quality is improving.

Abstract Lignin has enormous potential as a renewable feedstock for depolymerizing to numerous high-value chemicals. However, lignin depolymerization is challenging owing to its recalcitrant, heterogenous, and limited water-soluble nature. From the standpoint of environmental friendliness and sustainability, enzymatic depolymerization of lignin is of great significance. Notably, laccases play an essential role in the enzymatic depolymerization of lignin and are considered the ultimate green catalysts. Deep eutectic solvent (DES), an efficient media in biocatalysis, are increasingly recognized as the newest and utmost green solvent that highly dissolves lignin. This review centers on a lignin depolymerization strategy by harnessing the good lignin fractionating capability of DES and the high substrate and product selectivity of laccase. Recent progress and insights into the laccase–DES interactions, protein engineering strategies for improving DES compatibility with laccase, and controlling the product selectivity of lignin degradation by laccase or in DES systems are extensively provided. Lastly, the challenges and prospects of the alliance between DES and laccase for lignin depolymerization are discussed. The collaboration of laccase and DES provides a great opportunity to develop an enzymatic route for lignin depolymerization. Graphical Abstract

IntroductionThe changes in grassland management and grassland types are strongly linked with dynamics in soil physico-chemical properties and vegetation attributes, with important implications for carbon/nitrogen cycling and greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes. However, the seasonal variations of GHG emissions from sheepfolds, and the underlying biotic and abiotic drivers affecting GHG exchanges across different steppe and management types remain largely unclear.MethodsTaking the Inner Mongolian grassland as a model system, we measured the fluxes of CO2, CH4 and N2O, as well as soil and vegetation variables, in three contrasting grassland management areas (grazing, sheepfold, enclosure) and in three representative (wet typical, dry typical, desert) grassland ecosystems in July, September and November 2016.ResultsOur results showed that: (1) GHG fluxes were mostly higher in the plant growing season (July and September) than in the nongrowing season (November); sheepfold area had significantly higher GHG emissions (in July and mean over the season) than enclosed and grazing areas, with the effects being most pronounced in dry typical steppe. (2) The high GHG emissions in dry typical steppe were closely associated with the interactions among favorable soil temperature and moisture, high total organic carbon (TOC) content, and high aboveground biomass. The important predictors for CO2 emission were soil TOC and pH, whereas that for CH4 and N2O emissions were soil temperature and moisture content, in sheepfold areas. (3) Three GHG emissions were negatively affected by species richness across all steppe and management types, which might be a consequence of indirect effects through the changes in soil TOC and total nitrogen (TN).DiscussionThese results indicate that sheepfold areas are intensive hotspot sources of GHGs in the steppes, and it is of great importance to help to account GHG emissions and develop mitigation strategies for sheepfold areas for sustainable grassland management in the natural steppe based pastoral production ecosystems.

Antioxidant activity and volatiles of kiwifruit wine with different flesh colors were investigated in this study. Green (Guichang and Xuxiang), red (Donghong and Hongyang), and yellow (Jinyan) kiwifruits were analyzed to determine their alcohol content, phenolic profiles, antioxidant activity, and aroma composition. The results showed that Hongyang and Donghong wines had higher antioxidant activity and content of antioxidant substances. Hongyang wine possessed the most abundance of polyphenolic compounds, chlorogenic acid and catechins were the main polyphenols of kiwi wines. The 101 aromatic components were detected, Xuxiang wine possessed 64 aromatic compounds, Donghong and Hongyang wines had the higher esters compositions, 79.87%, and 78.0% respectively. From PCA (Principal Component Analysis), the volatile substances of kiwi wine with the same flesh color were similar. Five kinds of kiwi wines shared 32 kinds of volatile compounds, these compounds may be the core volatiles in kiwi wine. Therefore, the color of kiwi flesh can impact wine flavor, with Hongyang and Donghong kiwis owning red flesh being the most suitable for producing kiwi wine which would be a new milestone to the wine manufactures.

Fused deposition modeling and sintering (FDMS) is a novel 3D printing technique that combines fused deposition modeling with catalytic debinding and sintering processes to enable the rapid production of metal parts with low energy consumption and costs. Firstly, a 316L/POM composite filament is prepared. Subsequently, test specimens are printed using a fused deposition modeling (FDM) printer, followed by catalytic debinding and sintering processes to create dense metal parts. The process parameters show an influence on the part structure and, subsequently, the properties, and this study examines the microstructural characteristics of the 316L/POM composite filament at each process stage. Using tensile strength as the indicator, an orthogonal experiment is designed to identify suitable combinations of process parameters. Experimental results demonstrate that the FDMS process can manufacture 316L stainless steel parts; moreover, they influence the structure and, consequently, the mechanical behavior, as these are strongly related. By appropriately adjusting the process parameters, this method can be suitable for applications requiring functional parts with less stringent strength requirements.

Abstract Background Environmental pollution is a risk factor for adverse birth outcomes, especially preterm birth (PTB) and early-term birth (ETB). It has been revealed that exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) during pregnancy increase the prevalence of PTB. However, the relationship between PM2.5 exposure and ETB has not been elucidated. In high-risk pregnancies, whether PM2.5 exposure will bring higher risk of PTB and ETB than in normal pregnancies is still unclear, and the susceptible exposure window is obscure. Therefore, it is worthy of assessing the risk on PTB and ETB and identifying the susceptible exposure windows of PM2.5 exposure in high-risk pregnant women. Results This paper collected the clinical data of 7974 singletons, high-risk pregnant women in Peking University First Hospital from 2014 to 2018, and analyzed them using logistic regression and stratified analysis. We observed that exposure to high-level (≥ 75 µg/m3) of PM2.5 during the third trimester of pregnancy increases the risk of PTB and ETB (PTB: odds ratio[OR] = 1.43, 95% confidence interval [CI]:1.05–1.93. ETB: OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.09–1.54). Furthermore, the effects of each 10ug/m3 increase in PM2.5 on PTB and ETB were significant during the third trimester (PTB: OR = 1.35, 95%CI:1.16–1.58. ETB: OR = 1.12, 95%CI:1.02–1.22) and the entire pregnancy (PTB: OR = 6.12, 95%CI:4.27–8.89. ETB: OR = 1.96, 95%CI:1.59–2.43) in the high-level exposure group. Conclusions These results suggest that high-level PM2.5 exposure during pregnancy is associated with high risk of PTB and ETB in high-risk pregnancies. The third trimester of pregnancy is speculated to be the susceptible exposure window.

Urban forests can provide temperature regulation service (TRS) by lowering the local temperature and further mitigating the urban heat island effect. Numerous studies have focused on how to better realize or enhance the cooling function of urban forests, but have not considered that from the perspective of supply and demand. Here, we develop a framework to quantify the supply and demand of temperature regulation service provided by urban forests, using remote sensing, meteorological and socio-economic data. Taking Shenzhen city as a case study, we analyzed the spatial distribution of both TRS supply and demand as well as their relationship in Shenzhen. We found: 1) TRS supply varied greatly in space, with areas of high supply generally located in the southeast of Shenzhen, which is mainly covered by forests, and around the boundaries of administrative districts that are distant from the urban centers. 2) TRS demand had even more significant spatial heterogeneity, showing that high-demand areas were primarily distributed in the southwest but occupied a relatively small amount of land in Shenzhen. We then categorized the spatial relationship between TRS supply and demand into four types, and identified the hotspots of highly mismatched supply and demand of TRS. Targeted urban forests planning and management measures were further proposed for each type of region. This study provides spatial tools and insights for urban forests design and planning towards better urban heat mitigation and adaptation.

Background: The posterior cruciate ligament avulsion fracture (PCLAF) is a special type of PCL rupture, and arthroscopic fixation for PCLAF has been recommended currently. The bio-absorbable suture anchor is a novel internal fixation for PCLAF. This study aims to estimate and compare the safety, efficacy, and functional outcomes between the bio-absorbable anchor and the traditional suture pull-out technique for arthroscopic fixation of PCLAF.Methods: This was a prospective cohort study. PCLAF patients were included from 1 January 2020, to 31 August 2021, in our department, and randomly divided into the absorbable anchor group and control group (pull-out suture fixation). Clinical assessments included: post drawer test, gravity test, anterior-posterior laxity (KT-2000), range of motion, Lysholm and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scores, total failure rate, and returning to sports rate. The minimum follow-up was 1 year (y).Results: 31 patients had accomplished the 1 year follow-up (missing rate: 13.9%). We did not face any complications such as neurovascular injury, fever, infection, un-union, or re-rupture during the follow-up. CT scan showed that all of the patients in the two groups had a well bone union at 3 months in post-operation. At 1 year follow-up, the total failure rate of the bio-absorbable anchor group (1/17, p = 0.036) was lower than the control group (5/14), and the IKDC (86.24 ± 4.35, p = 0.008) and return to sports rate (11/17, p = 0.045) of the bio-absorbable anchor group were higher than that of the control group (81.43 ± 5.06) (4/14).Conclusion: Both the bio-absorbable anchor and suture pull-out technique for arthroscopic fixation of PCLAF have acquired a well bone union and superior safety, but the bio-absorbable anchor group had better efficacy and functional outcomes than the traditional pull-out technique.

Polyphenols are the largest group of phytochemicals with important biological properties. Their presence in conveniently available low-cost sources, such as agri-food by-products, has gained considerable attention in their recovery and further exploitation. Retrieving polyphenols in a green and sustainable way is crucial. Recently, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have been identified as a safe and environmentally benign medium capable of extracting polyphenols efficiently. This review encompasses the current knowledge and applications of DESs and assisted technologies to extract polyphenols from agri-food by-products. Particular attention has been paid to fundamental mechanisms and potential applications in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. In this way, DESs and DESs-assisted with advanced techniques offer promising opportunities to recover polyphenols from agri-food by-products efficiently, contributing to a circular and sustainable economy.

The acid-induced gelation of pectin in potato cell walls has been gradually recognized to be related to the improvement in the cell wall integrity after heat processing. The aim of this study was to characterize the acid-induced gelation of original pectin from a potato cell wall (OPP). Rheological analyses showed a typical solution–sol–gel transition process of OPP with different additions of gluconic acid-δ-lactone (GDL). The gelation time (Gt) of OPP was significantly shortened from 7424 s to 2286 s. The complex viscosity (η*) of OPP gradually increased after 4000 s when the pH was lower than 3.13 and increased from 0.15 to a range of 0.20~6.3 Pa·s at 9000 s. The increase in shear rate caused a decrease in η, indicating that OPP belongs to a typical non-Newtonian fluid. Furthermore, a decrease in ζ-potential (from −21.5 mV to −11.3 mV) and an increase in particle size distribution (from a nano to micro scale) was observed in OPP after gelation, as well as a more complex (fractal dimension increased from 1.78 to 1.86) and compact (cores observed by cryo-SEM became smaller and denser) structure. The crystallinity of OPP also increased from 8.61% to 26.44%~38.11% with the addition of GDL. The above results call for an investigation of the role of acid-induced OPP gelation on potato cell walls after heat processing.

ObjectsThe aim of this study is to explore the epidemiological characteristics of peripheral T-cell lymphoma in Beijing.Methods All data were extracted from the Beijing Cancer Registry database from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2018. Segi’s World Standard Population was used to estimate the age-standardized rate (ASR). Changes in trends were examined using joinpoint regression analysis. The observed survival was estimated by the Kaplan–Meier method. Relative survival was calculated using Ederer II and standardized using the Brenner method and International Cancer Survival Standard (ICSS) group 1 age structure. Stratified by gender, area, and histological type, incidence, mortality, and age of onset trends were observed in Beijing.Results In Beijing, there were 801 new cases and 463 deaths of T-cell lymphoma from 2007 to 2018. Peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) was the most prevalent subtype (37.45%), followed by angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL; 20.35%), NK/T-cell lymphoma (NK/TCL; 17.60%), and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL; 10.24%). The crude incidence and mortality rates were 0.52 and 0.30 per 100,000 person-years, respectively, whereas the age-standardized incidence and mortality rates (ASIR and ASMR) were 0.35 and 0.18 per 100,000 person-years, respectively. Both ASIR and ASMR were more prevalent in men (0.48 and 0.24 per 100,000) and urban area (0.38 and 0.19 per 100,000) than in women (0.22 and 0.11 per 100,000) and rural area (0.30 and 0.15 per 100,000). The average annual percentage change (AAPC) of ASIR and ASMR was 5.72% (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.79%–9.81%) and 4.35% (95% CI: −0.09%–8.99%), respectively. The age-specific incidence rate increased with age and peaked at the age groups of 10–14 and 80–84. The mean and median age of onset increased between 2007 and 2018. In addition, it decreased after the age of onset was age standardization (β = −0.41, P = 0.26). The 5-year age-standardized relative survival was 39.02% for all patients, 58.14% for NK/TCL, 57.60% for ALCL, 31.38% for AITL, and 29.18% for PTCL-NOS.Conclusions T-cell lymphoma incidence was rising, but survival was dismal in Beijing, indicating the need for improved early diagnosis and standardized treatment.

Machine vision technology has dramatically improved the efficiency, speed, and quality of fruit-picking robots in complex environments. Target recognition technology for fruit is an integral part of the recognition systems of picking robots. The traditional digital image processing technology is a recognition method based on hand-designed features, which makes it difficult to achieve better recognition as it results in dealing with the complex and changing orchard environment. Numerous pieces of literature have shown that extracting special features by training data with deep learning has significant advantages for fruit recognition in complex environments. In addition, to realize fully automated picking, reconstructing fruits in three dimensions is a necessary measure. In this paper, we systematically summarize the research work on target recognition techniques for picking robots in recent years, analyze the technical characteristics of different approaches, and conclude their development history. Finally, the challenges and future development trends of target recognition technology for picking robots are pointed out.

Immune-checkpoint inhibition therapy has achieved success in a subset of patients. Curcumin loaded octenylsuccinate fish scale gelatin (OFSG) was prepared in this study, to explore the potential of FSG for delivering hydrophobic nutrients. The effects of molecule weight (Mw, 22,677–369 g/mol) and degree of substitution (DS, 0–0.116) on the curcumin loading efficiency (CLE, μg/mL) of OFSG (6.98–26.85 mg/mL) were evaluated. The expose of interior hydrophobic groups in FSG and increased intermolecular hydrophobic area contributed to the loading of curcumin in two phases, respectively. The interaction between OFSG and curcumin showed a decreased absorption in FTIR and an increased crystallinity in XRD. The loading of curcumin into OFSG caused a significant decrease of the particle size (from 350–12,070 to 139–214 nm), PDI (from 0.584–0.659 to 0.248–0.347) and ζ-potential (−12.2 or −11.4 to −21.0 or −20.3). OFSG showed a significantly higher stability and lower release of curcumin than FSG at the end of the simulated gastrointestinal digestion. Thus, OFSG showed great potential in the construction of a carrier for hydrophobic nutrients.

Gelatin coating is an effective way to prolong the shelf life of meat products. Aiming at solving the problem of flavor deterioration during the storage of pork at room temperature, pork coating technology was developed to preserve the pork at 25 °C, and the comprehensive sensory analysis of vision, touch, smell, and taste was used to study the effect of coating on preservation of pork flavor. Herein, uncoated (control) and coated pork samples (including gelatin coating and gelatin coating incorporated with ginger essential oil) were analyzed to investigate the integrity of pork periodically during storage at 25 °C for weight loss, color, texture (springiness, chewiness, cohesiveness, gumminess, and hardness), microstructure, odor (electronic nose), taste (electronic tongue), volatile flavor substance, and taste ingredients. The results suggested that ginger essential oil (GEO) gelatin coating and gelatin coating can effectively inhibit the loss of water dispersion and slow down the oxidation reaction, coating treatments could significantly (p < 0.05) retarded the weight loss of pork slices, with values of 20.19%, 15.95%, 13.12% for uncoated, gelatin coated, and GEO-gelatin coated samples during 24 h of storage, respectively. Compared with control group, the color, texture, smell, and taste evaluations demonstrated that coating treatments had improved sensory and texture attributes during the storage period. Furthermore, the comprehensive results from the physical property assays (especially the texture), morphological assay and volatile odor assays showed that the GEO-fish gelatin composite coating had better preservation effect on pork flavor than the fish gelatin coating. The study suggests that the gelatin composite coating could be developed as a prospective active packaging to preserve pork meat at room temperature.
