Optical paths in telescopes frequently incorporate silver mirrors for high sensitivity. Unfortunately, silver mirrors without protective coatings are susceptible to sulfurization and oxidation, compromising their quality. Even with protective layers, insufficient adhesion between the coating and the silver film can lead to peeling, exposing the silver to external environments and affecting its quality. This study aimed to identify dielectric materials with superior adhesion to silver, rendering them ideal choices for silver coating applications. By electron gun evaporation, different dielectric layers were deposited on the top and bottom of the silver film under a substrate temperature below 150 °C. These coatings were composed of materials with desired refractive indices, including aluminum oxide (Al2O3), aluminum-doped silicon, magnesium fluoride (MgF2), and other dielectrics. Following the deposition, a tape adhesion test was conducted to evaluate the bond strength of the samples. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis was carried out to investigate the interaction between silver and its neighboring layers. The results revealed that Al2O3 and MgF2 exhibited exceptional adhesion to silver. Moreover, these multilayer coatings can effectively enhance the reflectance of silver in the visible (VIS) wavelength ranges.

Investigation of the joining technology of 3D-printed parts into a large physical model has become an important research topic. Rotary friction welding (RFW) is one of the friction welding methods. Understanding the weld interface temperature changes in the weld center zone during RFW is critical because it is related to the weld quality of the welded parts using RFW. Traditionally, the number of revolutions is constant in the RFW. However, rare investigations focus on the fatigue specimen fabricated by RFW with variable rotational speed. This study used RFW with varying rotational speeds to fabricate fatigue specimens. The ANSYS software was used to predict the temperature history of rotary frictionally welded dissimilar polymer rods fabricated by a computer numerical control (CNC) turning machine with variable rotational speed. The RFW experiment of ABS/PC dissimilar polymer rods was conducted to investigate the temperature history and compared with the simulation results. It was found that the temperature history profiles were in good agreement with the experimental and simulation results. Compared with the weld interface heating rate obtained from the experimental results, the simulation results has average discrepancy rate about 4.48 %. Compared with the maximum temperature of the weld interface obtained from the experimental results, the simulation results has average discrepancy rate about 3.16 %. The fatigue life can be increased by approximately 1.4 times. Finally, a database of rotary frictionally welded dissimilar polymer rods fabricated by a CNC turning machine with variable rotational speed was proposed. The average Shore A surface hardness at the weld interface was enhanced by approximately 18 % compared to the base ABS material.

Abstract Purpose Acknowledging the associated risk factors may have a positive impact on reducing the incidence of ectopic pregnancy (EP). In recent years, body mass index (BMI) has been mentioned in research. However, few studies are available and controversial on the relationship between EP and BMI. Methods We retrospectively studied the EP women as a case group and the deliveries as a control group in the central hospital of Wuhan during 2017 ~ 2021. χ2 test of variables associated with ectopic pregnancy was performed to find differences. Abstract Notwithstanding recent advances in direct antiviral specialists (DAAs) for hepatitis C infection (HCV), it is yet a pervasive overall issue in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) is associated with HCV infection. However, it remains unknown how miRNAs respond following biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (bDMARD) and targeted synthetic DMARD (tsDMARD) treatment in HCV patients with RA. We prospectively recruited RA patients taking anti-tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) inhibitors rituximab (RTX) and tofacitinib. The serum hepatitis C viral load was measured using real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR before and 6 months after bDMARD and tsDMARD therapy. HCV RNA replication activity was measured using an HCV-tricistronic replicon reporter system, and quantitative analysis of hsa-mir-122-5p and hsa-mir-155-5p in patients was performed using quantitative PCR. HCV RNA replication in hepatocytes was not affected by tofacitinib or TNF-α inhibitor treatment. Hsa-mir-155-5p and hsa-mir-122-5p were significantly expanded in RA patients with HCV as compared with those without HCV. We observed a dramatic increase in hsa-mir-122-5p and a decrease in hsa-mir-155-5p expression levels in patients taking RTX in comparison with other treatments. Finally, a reduction in hsa-mir-122-5p and an increase in hsa-mir-155-5p were observed in a time-dependent manner after tofacitinib and DAA therapy in RA-HCV patients. These results showed that hsa-mir-155-5p and hsa-mir-122-5p were significantly increased in RA-HCV patients as compared with those without HCV after taking tofacitinib. Hsa-mir-155-5p and hsa-mir-122-5p may be potential biomarkers for treatment efficacy in RA patients with HCV.

With the increasing number of cryptic species discovered in major branches of the subfamily Steganinae, accurate species identification is becoming challenging. Possible evolutionary stasis often gives rise to the formation of morphological conservatism and cryptic species, as is the case for the members of the Stegana (subgen. Orthostegana). In this study, the species boundaries of all Asian Orthostegana were accessed based on two mitochondrial genes [cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 2 (ND2)] using different species delimitation methods and evolutionary models. By integrating morphological and molecular evidence, we clearly validated the evolutionary independence of all five known species and identified nine new species from Southwest China: Stegana (Orthostegana) aini Peng & Chen sp. nov., S. (O.) brevivittata Peng & Chen sp. nov., S. (O.) cuodi Peng & Chen sp. nov., S. (O.) fuscofemorata Peng & Chen sp. nov., S. (O.) latipalpula Peng & Chen sp. nov., S. (O.) macrostephana Peng & Chen sp. nov., S. (O.) mohnihei Peng & Chen sp. nov., S. (O.) obscurala Peng & Chen sp. nov., and S. (O.) pinguitia Peng & Chen sp. nov. Moreover, we discussed the relationship between the Asian Orthostegana lineage and the subgen. Oxyphortica, and the necessity of taxonomic re-evaluation for the Neotropical species with molecular data. The high morphological conservatism within Orthostegana is largely the outcome of in situ diversification for adapting to the ecological environment.

In low-pressure wax injection molding, cooling time refers to the period during which the molten plastic inside the mold solidifies and cools down to a temperature where it can be safely ejected without deformation. However, cooling efficiency for the mass production of injection-molded wax patterns is crucial. This work aims to investigate the impact of varying surface roughness on the inner walls of the cooling channel on the cooling efficiency of an aluminum-filled epoxy resin rapid tool. It was found that the cooling time for the injection-molded products can be determined by the surface roughness according to the proposed prediction equation. Employing fiber laser processing on high-speed steel rods allows for the creation of microstructures with different surface roughness levels. Results demonstrate a clear link between the surface roughness of cooling channel walls and cooling time for molded wax patterns. Employing an aluminum-filled epoxy resin rapid tool with a surface roughness of 4.9 µm for low-pressure wax injection molding can save time, with a cooling efficiency improvement of approximately 34%. Utilizing an aluminum-filled epoxy resin rapid tool with a surface roughness of 4.9 µm on the inner walls of the cooling channel can save the cooling time by up to approximately 60%. These findings underscore the significant role of cooling channel surface roughness in optimizing injection molding processes for enhanced efficiency.

Three-dimensional printing is widely used for manufacturing a variety of functional components. However, the 3D printing machine substantially limits the size of the functional components. Rotary friction welding (RFW) is a possible solution to this problem. In addition, there is a notable scarcity of research directed toward the domain knowledge of RFW involving dissimilar polymer rods containing metal powder. In this study, two welding specimens fabricated by polylactic acid (PLA)-containing copper powder and PLA-containing aluminum powder were joined using a turning machine. After RFW, a bending test and a Shore A surface hardness test were performed to investigate the weld quality. It was found that the bending strength of the welded parts fabricated by RFW of PLA and PLA-containing Al powder rods can be enhanced by about 57.5% when the welded part is placed at 45 °C. Surface hardness test results showed that the surface hardness of the weld interface is better than that of the 3D printed parts, and the average surface hardness of the weld interface from RFW of PLA and PLA is the highest. The surface hardness of the weld joint is about 3% higher than that of the base material. The surface hardness of the heat-affected zone is about 3% lower than that of the base material. The average peak temperature of the welded joint is the highest in the RFW of PLA-containing Al powder and PLA-containing Al powder rods. The average peak temperature of the weld joint can be as high as 160 °C. The average peak temperature of the welded joint is the highest in the RFW of PLA-containing Cu powder and PLA-containing Cu powder rods. The average peak temperature of the welded joint can be as high as 144 °C. A technical database was built for the selection of ambient temperatures used for the RFW of dissimilar polymer rods containing metal powder and three base materials.

Abstract Background Cross-border malaria in Laiza City of Myanmar seriously affected Yingjiang County of China and compromised reaching the goal of malaria elimination by 2020. Since 2017, a pilot project on 3 + 1 strategy of joint cross-border malaria prevention and control was carried out for building a malaria buffer in these border areas. Here, 3 were the three preventive lines in China where different focalized approaches of malaria elimination were applied and + 1 was a defined border area in Myanmar where the integrated measures of malaria control were adopted. Methods A 5-year retrospective analysis (2015 to 2019) was conducted that included case detection, parasite prevalence and vector surveillance. Descriptive statistics was used and the incidence or rates were compared. The annual parasite incidence and the parasite prevalence rate in + 1 area of Myanmar, the annual importation rate in Yingjiang County of China and the density of An. minimus were statistically significant indictors to assess the effectiveness of the 3 + 1 strategy. Results In + 1 area of Myanmar from 2015 to 2019, the averaged annual parasite incidence was (59.11 ± 40.73)/1000 and Plasmodium vivax accounted for 96.27% of the total confirmed cases. After the pilot project, the annual parasite incidence dropped 89% from 104.77/1000 in 2016 to 12.18/1000 in 2019, the microscopic parasite prevalence rate dropped 100% from 0.34% in 2017 to zero in 2019 and the averaged density of An. Minimus per trap-night dropped 93% from 1.92 in June to 0.13 in September. The submicroscopic parasite prevalence rate increased from 1.15% in 2017 to 1.66% in 2019 without significant difference between the two surveys (P = 0.084). In Yingjiang County of China, neither indigenous nor introduced case was reported and 100% cases were imported from Myanmar since 2017. The averaged annual importation rate from 2015 to 2019 was (0.47 ± 0.15)/1000. After the pilot project, the annual importation rate dropped from 0.59/1000 in 2016 to 0.28/1000 in 2019 with an overall reduction of 53% in the whole county. The reduction was 67% (57.63/1000 to 18.01/1000) in the first preventive line, 52% (0.20/1000 to 0.10/1000) in the second preventive line and 36% (0.32/1000 to 0.22/1000) in the third preventive line. The averaged density of An. Minimus per trap-night in the first preventive line dropped 94% from 2.55 in June to 0.14 in September, without significant difference from that of + 1 area of Myanmar (Z value = − 1.18, P value = 0.24). Conclusion The pilot project on 3 + 1 strategy has been significantly effective in the study areas and a buffer zone of border malaria was successfully established between Laiza City of Myanmar and Yingjiang County of China.

Faba bean is an important cool-season edible legume crop that is constantly threatened by abiotic stresses such as drought. The basic leucine zipper (bZIP) gene family is one of the most abundant and diverse families of transcription factors in plants. It regulates plant growth and development and plays an important role in the response to biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, we identified 18 members of the faba bean bZIP transcription factor family at the genome-wide level based on previous faba bean drought stress transcriptome sequencing data. A phylogenetic tree was constructed to group the 18 VfbZIP proteins into eight clades. Analysis of cis-acting elements in the promoter region suggested that these 18 VfbZIPs may be involved in regulating abiotic stress responses such as drought. Transcriptome data showed high expression of seven genes (VfbZIP1, VfbZIP2, VfbZIP5, VfbZIP7, VfbZIP15, VfbZIP17, and VfbZIP18) in the drought-tolerant cultivar under drought stress, in which VfbZIP1, VfbZIP2, and VfbZIP5 were consistently expressed as detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) compared to the transcriptome data. Ectopic overexpression of the three VfbZIPs in tobacco, based on the potato Virus X (PVX) vector, revealed that VfbZIP5 enhanced the drought tolerance. Overexpressed VfbZIP5 in plants showed lower levels of proline (PRO), malondialdehyde (MDA), and peroxidase (POD) compared to those overexpressing an empty vector under 10 days of drought stress. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis showed that VfbZIP5 interacted with seven proteins in faba bean, including VfbZIP7 and VfbZIP10. The results depict the importance of VfbZIPs in response to drought stress, and they would be useful for the improvement of drought tolerance.

Unlike silicon carbide ceramic, the alumina ceramic and zirconia ceramic are by its very nature weakly absorbing in visible and near infrared wavebands. Therefore, open-cell foams made of such ceramics are rarely used in applications requiring strong absorption of radiation energy, such as solar absorbers. In order to improve the potential of such foams, open-cell foams with dual-scale pores were digitally designed in the limit of geometric optics. The first-order pores are obtained by Voronoi tessellation technique and then the second-order pores are realized by the design of 'porous strut'. A Monte Carlo Ray-tracing method is applied in the dual-scale foam structure for radiative transfer calculation. The parameterized study is conducted on the radiation absorption of alumina foam sheets and zirconia foam sheets. The results show that for the present cases, the designed dual-scale alumina foams with strut porosity ps = 0.3 can increase the normal absorptance within the wavebands from 0.4 μm to 7.0 μm by 62.7% than the foams with single-scale pores. For the zirconia foams, this increase is 115.9% within the wavebands from 1.2 μm to 7.6 μm. The findings can provide strong confidence on dual-scale foams to enhance the absorption of radiation energy in potential applications.

ObjectivesTo investigate the differences between the vector vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/AZD1222 (Oxford-AstraZeneca) and mRNA-based vaccine mRNA-1273 (Moderna) in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRD), and to explore the cell-cell interactions between high and low anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG levels in patients with rheumatic arthritis (RA) using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq).MethodsFrom September 16 to December 10, 2021, we consecutively enrolled 445 participants (389 patients with AIRD and 56 healthy controls), of whom 236 were immunized with AZD1222 and 209 with mRNA-1273. The serum IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain was quantified by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay at 4-6 weeks after vaccination. Moreover, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from RA patients at 4-6 weeks after vaccination for scRNA-seq and further analyzed by CellChat. ScRNA-seq of PBMCs samples from GSE201534 in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were also extracted for analysis.ResultsThe anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG seropositivity rate was 85.34% for AIRD patients and 98.20% for healthy controls. The anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG level was higher in patients receiving mRNA-1273 than those receiving AZD1222 (β: 35.25, 95% CI: 14.81-55.68, p=0.001). Prednisolone-equivalent dose >5 mg/day and methotrexate use in AIRD patients, and non-anti-tumor necrosis factor-α biologics and Janus kinase inhibitor use in RA patients were associated with inferior immunogenicity. ScRNA-seq revealed CD16-monocytes were predominant in RA patients with high anti-SARS-CoV2-IgG antibodies, and enriched pathways related to antigen presentation via MHC class II were found. HLA-DRA and CD4 interaction was enhanced in high anti-SARS-CoV2-IgG group.ConclusionsmRNA-1273 and AZD1222 vaccines exhibited differential immunogenicity in AIRD patients. Enriched pathways related to antigen presentation via MHC class II in CD16-monocytes might be associated with higher anti-SARS-CoV2-IgG level in RA patients and further study is warranted.

Rotary friction welding (RFW) is a green manufacturing technology with environmental pollution in the field of joining methods. In practice, the welding quality of the friction-welded parts was affected by the peak temperature in the weld joint during the RFW of dissimilar plastic rods. In industry, polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) are two commonly used plastics in consumer products. In this study, the COMSOL multiphysics software was employed to estimate the peak temperature in the weld joint during the RFW of PC and ABS rods. After RFW, the mechanical performance and microstructural evolution of friction-welded parts were investigated experimentally. The average Shore A surface hardness, flexural strength, and impact energy are directly proportional to the rotation speed of the RFW. The quality of RFW is excellent, since the welding strength in the weld joint is better than that of the ABS base materials. The fracture occurs in the ABS rods since their brittleness is higher than that of the PC rods. The average percentage error of predicting the peak temperature using COMSOL software using a mesh element count of 875,688 for five different rotation speeds is about 16.6%. The differential scanning calorimetry curve for the friction-welded parts welded at a rotation speed of 1350 rpm shows an endothermic peak between 400 to 440 °C and an exothermic peak between 600 to 700 °C, showing that the friction-welded parts have better mechanical properties.

Rotary friction welding (RFW) could result in lower welding temperature, energy consumption, or environmental effects as compared with fusion welding processes. RFW is a green manufacturing technology with little environmental pollution in the field of joining methods. Thus, RFW is widely employed to manufacture green products. In general, the welding quality of welded parts, such as tensile strength, bending strength, and surface hardness is affected by the peak temperature in the weld joint during the RFW of dissimilar plastic rods. However, hitherto little is known about the domain knowledge of RFW of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and polycarbonate (PC) polymer rods. To prevent random efforts and energy consumption, a green method to predict the peak temperature in the weld joint of dissimilar RFW of ABS and PC rods was proposed. The main objective of this work is to investigate the peak temperature in the weld joint during the RFW using COMSOL multiphysics software for establishing an empirical technical database of RFW of dissimilar polymer rods under different rotational speeds. The main findings include that the peak temperature affecting the mechanical properties of RFW of PC and ABS can be determined by the simulation model proposed in this work. The average error of predicting the peak temperature using COMSOL software for five different rotational speeds is about 15 °C. The mesh element count of 875,688 is the optimal number of meshes for predicting peak temperature in the weld joint. The bending strength of the welded part (y) using peak welding temperature (x) can be predicted by the equation of y = −0.019 x2 + 5.081x − 200.75 with a correlation coefficient of 0.8857. The average shore A surface hardness, impact energy, and bending strength of the welded parts were found to be increased with increasing the rotational speed of RFW.

Aim of the Study: Mason type III radial head fractures are a source of concern due to the severe injury and poor recovery. At present, radial head resection, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), and prosthetic replacement are three common treatment methods for these fractures. The clinical efficacy and postoperative complications are controversial, which makes it difficult for physicians to determine the most appropriate regimen. Herein, this present prospective, non-randomized, parallel-controlled study was conducted to compare the therapeutic effects and identify the most effective treatment method for Mason type III radial head fracture. Materials and Methods: We assessed patients with Mason type III radial head fracture treated with resection, prosthetic replacement, and ORIF to compare preoperative and postoperative pain condition, elbow joint function, curative effect, and complication rate. A visual analog scale was used to score pain. The elbow joint function was observed using the Broberg–Morrey elbow joint score. Results: No significant differences were found in patient demographics among the resection, prosthetic replacement, and ORIF groups. The prosthetic replacement and ORIF procedures were more complex and had higher technical requirements. Prosthetic replacement and ORIF enabled higher elbow joint scores and lower pain scores than resection. Excellent and good ratings were highest and complication rates were lowest in the prosthetic replacement group, followed by the ORIF group. Conclusion: Our results showed that prosthetic replacement is more effective than ORIF and radial head resection in relieving pain, functional recovery and reducing complications in the treatment of Mason type III radial head fractures.

A new species group, the riverata species group, is established within the genus Scaptodrosophila based on morphological and molecular evidence for five known and five new species from China: S. abdentata sp. nov., S. cederholmi (Okada, 1988), S. crocata (Bock, 1976), S. paraclubata (Sundaran & Gupta, 1991), S. platyrhina sp. nov., S. puncticeps (Okada, 1956), S. riverata (Singh & Gupta, 1977), S. serrateifoliacea sp. nov., S. sinuata sp. nov. and S. tanyrhina sp. nov. A key to this group is provided. Furthermore, 51 mtDNA COI sequences belonging to S. puncticeps, S. riverata and the five new species are used for verifying species boundaries defined by the morphological data.

Phylogenetic relationships of the subgenus Oxyphortica were reconstructed based on two mitochondrial genes (COI and ND2). The results revealed the paraphyly of Oxyphortica and supported high levels of cryptic diversity within this subgenus. By integrating morphological characteristics and molecular evidence, we identified 17 new species as members of Oxyphortica: S. (O.) amphigya sp. nov., S. (O.) armillata sp. nov., S. (O.) ashima sp. nov., S. (O.) bawo sp. nov., S. (O.) crypta sp. nov., S. (O.) gelea sp. nov., S. (O.) hengduanmontana sp. nov., S. (O.) jinmingi sp. nov., S. (O.) mengbalanaxi sp. nov., S. (O.) mouig sp. nov., S. (O.) setipes sp. nov., S. (O.) shangrila sp. nov., S. (O.) tsauri sp. nov., S. (O.) valleculata sp. nov., S. (O.) wanhei sp. nov., S. (O.) yangjin sp. nov. and S. (O.) hypophaia sp. nov. To test the early morphological identifications and confirm the species boundaries, different species delimitation methods, including Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery (ABGD) and Bayesian Phylogenetics and Phylogeography (BP&P), were used, together with traditional distance. All species boundaries were clearly defined. As Oxyphortica species are mainly distributed across Southwest China (e.g., 20 spp. from the Hengduan Mountains), the complex climate and topographic landforms of the area may be responsible for the high levels of species diversity and endemism.

Friction welding (FW) FW of dissimilar polymer rods is capable of manufacturing green products swiftly and economically. In this study, a green manufacturing technique of joining dissimilar polymer rods was proposed, and the effects of rotational speed on the joint characteristics of friction-welded dissimilar polymer rods fabricated by the fused deposition modeling process were investigated experimentally. The shore surface hardness test, impact test, three-point bending test, and differential scanning calorimetry analysis were carried out on the weld joints. The impact energy for FW of polylactic acid (PLA) and PLA, PLA and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), PLA and PLA filled with glass fiber (GF), PLA and PLA filled with carbon fiber (CF), PLA and polycarbonate (PC), and PLA and polyamide (PA) rods can be increased by approximately 1.5, 1.5, 1.3, 1.3, 2.1, and 1.5 times by increasing the rotational speed from 330 rpm to 1350 rpm. The bending strength for FW of PLA and PLA, PLA and ABS, PLA and PLA filled with GF, PLA and PLA filled with CF, PLA and PC, and PLA and PA rods can be increased by approximately 1.3, 1.7, 1.3, 1.2, 1.2, and 1.2 times by increasing the rotational speed from 330 rpm to 1350 rpm. However, the surface hardness of the weld bead is not proportional to the rotational speed. The average surface hardness of the weld bead was increased by approximately 5% compared to the surface hardness of the welding base materials.

ObjectiveTo develop and prospective validate an ultrasound (US) prediction model to differentiate between benign and malignant subpleural pulmonary lesions (SPLs).MethodsThis study was conducted retrospectively from July 2017 to December 2018 (development cohort [DC], n = 592) and prospectively from January to April 2019 (validation cohort [VC], n = 220). A total of 18 parameters of B-mode US and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) were acquired. Based on the DC, a model was developed using binary logistic regression. Then its discrimination and calibration were verified internally in the DC and externally in the VC, and its diagnostic performance was compared with those of the existing US diagnostic criteria in the two cohorts. The reference criteria were from the comprehensive diagnosis of clinical-radiological-pathological made by two senior respiratory physicians.ResultsThe model was eventually constructed with 6 parameters: the angle between lesion border and thoracic wall, basic intensity, lung-lesion arrival time difference, ratio of arrival time difference, vascular sign, and non-enhancing region type. In both internal and external validation, the model provided excellent discrimination of benign and malignant SPLs (C-statistic: 0.974 and 0.980 respectively), which is higher than that of “lesion-lung AT difference ≥ 2.5 s” (C-statistic: 0.842 and 0.777 respectively, P

Highly reflective metal coatings are essential for manufacturing reflecting telescope mirrors to achieve the highest reflectivity with broad spectral bandwidth. Among metallic materials, enhanced silver-based coatings can provide higher reflectivity in the 400–500 nm spectral range to better performance from visible to near IR. Moreover, over-coating a dielectric protective layer on the mirror’s front side attains additional hardness and oxidation stability. In this paper, we study a combination of thermal and electron beam evaporation as a technology to form protected enhanced high reflective Ag coatings. A newly designed multiplayer film can pass ASTM 5B adhesive performance testing and give sulfurization inhibition. The average specular reflectivity for the enhancement coating is about 98% in wavelengths across the spectral range from 400–1000 nm. This innovation has been demonstrated on a Newtonian type telescope, with storage in an ambiance humidity H = 60–85%, and temperature T = 10–35 °C, for more than six months without degradation in coating performance.

Abstract Background In the era of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), the incidence of post-cardiac injury syndrome (PCIS) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) following PPCI has become less common. However, the intrinsic pathogenesis of this medical condition remains largely uncertain. Unlike the prior reports, the present paper provides new mechanistic clues concerning the pathogenesis of PCI-related PCIS. Case presentation A 45-year-old male with AMI had developed an early onset of PCIS at 3 h after PPCI. A significantly slower TIMI flow (grade ≤ 2) for the culprit arteries was observed through follow-up coronary angiography (CAG); no stent thrombosis or any significant evidence of iatrogenic trauma due the intervention procedures was found. Nevertheless, the the serum level of HsCRP showed similar variation trend as the neutrophil count and troponin T in continuous blood monitoring, which suggested a potential association between PPCI-related coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) and pathogenesis of PCIS. Conclusions The reported case had excessive inflammatory reaction and CMD resulting from cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury in an AMI patient with risk factors of endothelial dysfunction. There exists a potential reciprocal causation between PCIS and performance of PPCI in the AMI patient who was susceptible to endothelial damage.

Abstract We study the spin-dependent electronic and thermoelectric transport through a structure composed of triple quantum dots (TQDs) coupled to two metallic leads in the presence of spin-dependent interdot couplings, which is reliable by applying a static magnetic field on the tunnel junctions between different dots. When the TQDs are serially connected, a 100 % spin-polarized conductance and thermopower emerge even for very small spin-polarization of the interdot coupling as the dots are weakly coupled to each other. Whereas if the TQDs are connected in a ring shape, the Fano antiresonance will result in sharp peaks in the conductance and thermopower. In the presence of spin-dependent interdot couplings, the peaks of the spin-up and spin-down thermopowers will shift to opposite directions in the dot level regime, resulting large either 100 % spin-polarized or pure spin thermopowers. The latter generally arises at low temperatures and is robust against the level detuning, the dot-lead coupling, and the system equilibrium temperature.

Abstract Background The coracoid process plays an important role in maintaining the stability of the elbow joint. A fracture of the coronoid process is often treated via surgical approaches, including open reduction and internal fixation, which aim to regain a stable, flexible, and loadable joint. In this study, we compared the anterior, medial, and posterior approaches of internal fixation in the repair of fractures of the coronoid process of the ulna. Methods In this retrospective study, 147 patients with fractures in the coronoid process of the ulna were recruited and classified into the anterior group (n = 73), the medial group (n = 32), and the posterior group (n = 42) according to the surgical approach used for internal fixation. These patients were assessed with respect to incision, operative time, estimated blood loss, fracture healing, and postoperative complications. The Mayo Elbow Performance Score was used to evaluate any form of disability associated with elbow injuries. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the factors influencing the efficacy of fractures of the coronoid process of the ulna. Results In the medial approach group, the operative time was longer, and perioperative blood loss and postoperative drainage volume were obviously increased compared with the anterior and posterior groups. The anterior group exhibited a better postoperative recovery compared with the medial, and posterior groups. Compared with the anterior group, fracture-healing time in the posterior group was further reduced, whereas elbow joint flexion extension and forearm rotation degree improved. Complications were significantly reduced in the posterior approach group compared with the anterior and medial groups. The factors influencing the efficacy of fractures of the coronoid process of the ulna included the Regan–Morrey classification, perioperative blood loss, and the internal fixation approach. Conclusion In summary, the approach used influences fracture healing or the outcome after osteosynthesis. The posterior internal fixation method produced satisfactory functional outcomes in patients with fractures of the coronoid process of the ulna.

Objective. To investigate the effect of intensive management and achieving the target control more than 3 times on endpoint events during 9 consecutive years’ annual assessment in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients in the Sanlitun Community Health Service Center in Beijing, including blood glucose, blood pressure, lipids profiles, and the joint target control. Methods. In Beijing Community Diabetes Study (BCDS), 224 patients with T2DM from the Sanlitun Community Health Service Center were enrolled in 2008. All patients were randomly assigned to the intensive management group (n = 113) and the standard management group (n = 111). All patients were followed up for nine consecutive years from January 2009 to December 2017. Systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were detected as the main indexes, and the endpoint events were also carried out at the same time. The endpoint events were analyzed by using survival analysis (Kaplan–Meier method) based on management grouping and whether achieving the target control more than 3 times or not. Results. During the nine-year follow-up, the abscission number was 35 (14.29%), among which 14 (12.39%) was in the intensive management group and 21 (18.92%) was in the standard management group. The incidence of diabetic retinopathy (6 cases, 5.41%) and diabetic nephropathy (13 cases, 11.71%) in the standard management group was significantly higher than that in the intensive management group (1 case, 0.88%; 5 cases, 4.42%), respectively (P0.05). All-cause death was 23 cases, in which patients who achieved the target control (HbA1c and LDL-C) and the joint target control more than 3 times were significantly lower than that of less than 3 times (P0.05). There were less incidence of new onset cerebrovascular events, stenosis or occlusion of large arteries, and diabetic microvascular complications in patients who achieved target control (HbA1c and LDL-C) and the joint target control more than 3 times than those with target control less than 3 times (P

Abstract Background Ulna coronoid fracture is a complicated injury and occurred in the coronal plane. Undeniably, there is no universally accepted approach for treating ulna coronoid fractures. Therefore, this study aimed at exploring the efficacy of different surgical treatments for Regan-Morrey type II and III ulna coronoid fractures. Methods A total of 164 patients with ulna coronoid fractures were admitted and treated in department of orthopedics at Yiwu Central Hospital, the Affiliated Yiwu Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University for retrospective analysis. The baseline features (age, gender, time from injury to surgery and so on) before the surgery and different conditions during the surgery were compared. Following that, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain score was employed to evaluate the severity of preoperative and postoperative pain experienced by the patients in each group. Afterwards, Broberg and Morrey elbow score was used to evaluate elbow joint function and surgical effect of the patients. Lastly, the postoperative recovery and complications were compared. Results It was firstly observed that internal fixation with mini plate and hollow screw compelled to lower average operation time and blood loss than Kirschner wire and steel wire suture. Next, the severity of postoperative pain was lessened in comparison with preoperative pain. Afterwards, mini plate and hollow screw improved elbow joint function more notable than Kirschner wire and steel wire suture, and Kirschner wire and steel wire suture resulted in higher incidence of complications and worse postoperative recovery. Conclusion Collectively, this study clarified that for the treatment of Regan-Morrey type II and III ulna coronoid fractures, internal fixation with mini plate and hollow screw has an overall superior surgical effect than internal fixation with Kirschner wire and steel wire suture.

Abstract The levels of decoy receptor 3 (DcR3), soluble urokinase type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) and procalcitonin (PCT) are significantly increased in sepsis. We investigated the diagnostic value of DcR3 combined with suPAR and PCT in sepsis. Patients with sepsis, non-infectious systemic inflammatory response comprehensive syndrome (SIRS) and healthy controls were recruited according to the diagnostic standard. We measured DcR3, suPAR, PCT, interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP), and the diagnostic value was evaluated by receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves. In our analysis, serum DcR3, suPAR and PCT levels of the sepsis group were significantly higher than those of the SIRS and control groups. However, IL-6, CRP and WBC showed no significant difference between the SIRS group and the sepsis group. The serum DcR3 level was positively correlated with the serum suPAR level (r = 0.37, p = 0.0022) and PCT level (r = 0.37, p = 0.0021). Using DcR3, suPAR and PCT to distinguish SIRS from sepsis, the area under the curve (AUC) values were 0.892, 0.778 and 0.692. When DcR3, suPAR and PCT combined were used for diagnosis of sepsis, the AUC was 0.933, at a cut-off point of 0.342. This combination improved the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis of sepsis, suggesting that use of the combination of three indexes enhanced the efficiency of sepsis diagnosis.

Eight new species of the Scaptodrosophila coracina species group are described from China: S. fuscilimba sp. n., S. fusciventricula sp. n., S. helvpecta sp. n., S. longispinata sp. n., S. nigrolimbata sp. n., S. trivittata sp. n., S. ventriobscurata sp. n., and S. zebrina sp. n. One known species S. coracina (Kikkawa & Peng) is redescribed. A key to all the examined species in the coracina group is provided. Species delimitations have been improved by integrating the DNA sequences with morphological information. The intra- and interspecific pairwise p-distances (proportional distance) are summarized. Some nucleotide sites with fixed status in the alignment of the COI sequences (662 nucleotide sites in length) are used as “pure” molecular diagnostic characters to delineate species in the coracina group.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease characterized by excessive fat accumulation in the liver. The aim of this study is to elucidate the multi-target mechanism of polyphenols in blueberry leaves (PBL) on NAFLD by network pharmacology and to validate its results via biological experiments. Twenty constituents in PBL were preliminarily determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Subsequently, 141 predicted drug targets and 1226 targets associated with NAFLD were retrieved from public databases, respectively. The herb-compound-target network and the target protein–protein interaction network (PPI) were established through Cytoscape software, and four compounds and 53 corresponding targets were identified. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment were performed to explore the biological processes of the predicted genes. The results of cell experiments demonstrated that PBL could significantly improve the viability of the NAFLD cell model, and the protein expressions of caspase-3 and Bcl-2 were consistent with the expected mechanism of action of PBL. Those results systematically revealed that the multi-target mechanism of PBL against NAFLD was related to the apoptosis pathway, which could bring deeper reflections into the hepatoprotective effect of PBL.

A new method for the design of elliptical beam reflector antenna is presented in this paper. By means of the basic principles of ring-focus antenna, a circularly symmetric feed and two specially shaped reflectors are used to form an elliptical beam antenna. Firstly, the design process of this ring-focus elliptical beam antenna is studied in detail. Transition function is defined and used in the design process. Then, combining the needs of practical engineering, a ring-focus elliptical beam reflector antenna is manufactured and tested. The gain at center frequency (12 GHz) is 37.7 dBi with an aperture efficiency of 74.6%. 3 dB beam-width in φ=0° and φ=90° plane is 2.6° and 1.4°, respectively. Ratio of the elliptical beam (ratio of 3 dB beam-width in φ=0° and φ=90° plane) is 2.6/1.4=1.85, substantially equal to designed ratio 2. Simulating and testing results match well, which testify the effectiveness of this design method.

PURPOSE: To study the effects of percutaneous reconstruction plate internal fixation in the treatment of unstable sacral fractures. METHODS: Percutaneous reconstruction plate internal fixation was applied on 21 cases of unstable sacral fracture (15 males and six females, at age range of 16-65 years, mean 38.3 years) including four cases of Denis Zone I, 14 cases of Zone II and three cases of Zone III. In operation, an arc incision (about 3-5 cm long) was made along the iliac crest on the outside border of posterior superior iliac spine (PSIS) on both sides, and then the plate was transported from the wounded side to the opposite one through the subcutaneous tunnel. RESULTS: The mean incision length, operation time, intraoperative blood loss was 4.3cm, 45.2min, and 160.8ml respectively. All these patients were followed up for 12-33 months (average 16.3 months), which showed no incision infection, intraoperative neurovascular injury, internal fixation loose or breakage, disunion, or obvious lower limb length inequality. The function result was rated as excellent in six cases, good in 12 and fair in 3, with excellence rate of 85.7%, according to the Majeed scoring system. CONCLUSION: Percutaneous reconstruction plate internal fixation is an ideal surgical approach to unstable sacral fractures, as it is easy, safe, causing less trauma and fewer complications, and conducive to quicker recovery.OBJETIVO: Estudar os efeitos da reconstrução percutânea com fixação de placa interna no tratamento de fraturas sacrais instáveis. MÉTODOS: A reconstrução percutânea com fixação de placa interna foi aplicada em 21 casos de fratura sacral instável (15 homens e seis mulheres, com idade variando entre 16 e 65 anos, média de 38,3 anos) incluindo quatro casos de Zona I de Denis, 14 casos de Zona II e três casos de Zona III. No ato operatório, uma incisão arqueada (cerca de 3 a 5cm de comprimento) foi feita ao longo da crista ilíaca na borda externa da espinha ilíaca supero-posterior (PSIS) em ambos os lados, e então a placa foi transportada do lado da ferida para o lado oposto através do túnel subcutâneo. RESULTADOS: O comprimento médio da incisão, tempo operatório e perda sanguínea intra-operatória foram, respectivamente, 4,3cm, 45,2min e 160,8ml. Todos estes pacientes foram acompanhados por 12 a 33 meses (média 16,3 meses), o que mostrou nenhuma infecção de ferida operatória, lesão neurovascular intraoperatória, perda da fixação interna ou quebra, desunião ou desigualdade nos comprimentos dos membros inferiores. O resultado funcional foi excelente em seis casos, bom em doze e falho em três, com taxa excelente de 85,7%, de acordo com o sistema de escore de Majeed. CONCLUSÃO: Reconstrução percutânea com fixação de placa interna é uma abordagem cirúrgica ideal para fraturas sacrais instáveis, sendo fácil e segura, causando menos trauma e poucas complicações, conduzindo a uma recuperação mais rápida.

The Stegana undulata species group is revised and eight new species described: S. (Steganina) flaviclypeata Chen & Chen, sp. n., S. (S.) flavipalpata Chen & Chen, sp. n., S. (S.) leucothorax Chen & Chen, sp. n., S. (S.) melanocheilota Chen & Chen, sp. n. and S. (S.) melanothorax Chen & Chen, sp. n. from southern China, and S. (S.) flaviscutellata Chen & Chen, sp. n., S. (S.) nigriclypeata Chen & Chen, sp. n. and S. (S.) nigripalpata Chen & Chen, sp. n. from eastern Malaysia. A key to all the species examined based on morphological data is provided. Based on DNA sequence data of the mitochondrial ND2 and COI genes, the relationship among six Chinese species of the undulata group and that of the S. coleoptrata and S. nigrolimbata species groups of the same subgenus is investigated, using S. emeiensis of the subgenus Stegana s. str. as an out-group.

Oncogenic transformation of normal cells often involves epigenetic alterations, including histone modification and DNA methylation. We conducted whole-genome bisulfite sequencing to determine the DNA methylomes of normal breast, fibroadenoma, invasive ductal carcinomas and MCF7. The emergence, disappearance, expansion and contraction of kilobase-sized hypomethylated regions (HMRs) and the hypomethylation of the megabase-sized partially methylated domains (PMDs) are the major forms of methylation changes observed in breast tumor samples. Hierarchical clustering of HMR revealed tumor-specific hypermethylated clusters and differential methylated enhancers specific to normal or breast cancer cell lines. Joint analysis of gene expression and DNA methylation data of normal breast and breast cancer cells identified differentially methylated and expressed genes associated with breast and/or ovarian cancers in cancer-specific HMR clusters. Furthermore, aberrant patterns of X-chromosome inactivation (XCI) was found in breast cancer cell lines as well as breast tumor samples in the TCGA BRCA (breast invasive carcinoma) dataset. They were characterized with differentially hypermethylated XIST promoter, reduced expression of XIST, and over-expression of hypomethylated X-linked genes. High expressions of these genes were significantly associated with lower survival rates in breast cancer patients. Comprehensive analysis of the normal and breast tumor methylomes suggests selective targeting of DNA methylation changes during breast cancer progression. The weak causal relationship between DNA methylation and gene expression observed in this study is evident of more complex role of DNA methylation in the regulation of gene expression in human epigenetics that deserves further investigation.

The aim of the study was to explore the clinical outcome of posterolateral and anteromedial approaches in treatment of terrible triad of the elbow. The study involved 12 patients with closed terrible triad of the elbow treated by posterolateral and anteromedial approaches between January 2010 and June 2012. The mechanism of injury included fall from height in 9 patients and traffic accident in 3. According to O'Driscoll classification for fractures of the ulnar coronoid, there were 11 patients with type Ⅰ and 1 with type Ⅱ fractures. According to Mason classification for fractures of the radial head, there were 3 patients with type Ⅰ, 7 with type Ⅱ and 2 with type Ⅲ fractures. All patients were followed up for 12-27 months (average 15.5 months), which showed no pain or severe pain in all patients except for 2 patients with mild pain. At the last follow-up, the mean flexion was for 125°(range, 90°-140°), the mean extension loss for 20°(range, 0°-70°), the mean pronation for 66°(range, 20°-85°) and the mean supination for 60°(range, 30°-85°). The bony union time was 8-14 weeks (average 11 weeks) and the elbows were stable in flexion-extension and varus-valgus in all patients. The elbows maintained a concentric reduction of both the ulnotrochlear and the radiocapitellar articulation. Mild heterotopic ossification of the elbow occurred in 3 patients at 6 months after operation and mild degenerative change in 1 patient at 18 months after operation. The Broberg and Morrey elbow performance score was 82 points (range, 58-98 points). The results were excellent in 6 patients, good in 4, fair in 1 and poor in 1, with excellence rate of 83.3%. The results showed that the combined posterolateral and anteromedial approaches can facilitate the reduction and fixation of terrible triad of the elbow. Repair of radial head, coronoid, medial and lateral collateral ligaments can sufficiently restore the elbow stability, allow early postoperative motion and enhance the functional recovery.

Terrible triad injury of the elbow (TTIE), comprising elbow dislocation with radial head and coronoid process fracture, is notoriously challenging to treat and has typically been associated with complications and poor outcomes. The objective of this systematic review was to summarize the most recent available evidence regarding functional outcomes and complications following surgical management of TTIE.Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were searched to identify relevant studies, which were included if they were retrospective or prospective in design, involved participants who had TTIE, and were published in English. Outcomes of interest were functional outcomes and complications.Sixteen studies, involving 312 patients, were included in the systematic review. Mean follow up after surgery was typically 25 to 30 months. Mean Mayo elbow performance scores ranged from 78 to 95. Mean Broberg-Morrey scores ranged from 76 to 90. Mean DASH scores ranged from 9 to 31. The proportion of patients who required reoperation due to complications ranged from 0 to 54.5% (overall = 70/312 [22.4%]). Most of these complications were related to hardware fixation problems, joint stiffness, joint instability, and ulnar neuropathy. The most common complications that did not require reoperation were heterotopic ossification (39/312 [12.5%] patients) and arthrosis (35/312 [11.2%] patients).The results of this systematic review indicate that functional outcomes after surgery for TTIE are generally satisfactory and that complications are common. Further research is warranted to determine which surgical techniques optimize functional outcomes and reduce the risk of complications.
