This study compares the capacitance–voltage (C–V) characteristics in silicon–germanium (SiGe) metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitances with and without a silicon oxide capping layer. The SiGe channel with the silicon oxide capping layer exhibits an improved C–V property at room temperature but has an abnormal shift and depression at low temperature (77 K). We determined that the threshold voltage shift was induced by the Fermi-level when ambient temperature was changed. The additional silicon capping layer was responsible for introducing defects resulting in depression and hump in the C–V measurements. Such a phenomenon is mainly caused by the different distribution of defects, which was established by modifying the alternating current pulse amplitude during the C–V measurement. Purpose: Previous suicide behavior predicts future suicide risk. Studies of suicide repetition are important for suicide prevention. This study examined the clinical characteristics and psychiatric comorbidities of pesticide self-harm as associated with suicide attempt repetition status. Patients and Methods: This retrospective, observational study included patients admitted to a medical center in northern Taiwan between 2000 and 2015 following suicide attempts by pesticide. Diagnoses were made by a consultation-liaison psychiatry team based on the DSM IV-TR criteria. Independent samples t-test was used to analyze the quantitative variables and Pearson's Chi-squared test with a Bonferroni adjustment for categorical variables. Univariate binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the predictors for repeated suicide attempt and multivariate binary logistic regression analysis to identify significant associated factors. Results: Among 151 patients, organophosphate pesticides were the most used (80.8%). The average age was 52.9± 17.2 years. Most patients were married males from rural areas, with depressive disorder most often diagnosed (40.4%). Nearly one-third of them were suicide repeaters (n=43, 28.5%); these patients were less likely to be married (53.5%, p=0.001), had previously used psychiatric services (72.1%, p< 0.001) and chose complex suicide (46.5%, p=0.014) more often compared to nonrepeaters. No significant differences were found between repeaters and nonrepeaters regarding psychiatric comorbidities. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that marital status (odds ratio: 2.916, 95% confidence interval: 1.234– 6.891, p=0.015) and previous psychiatric services usage (odds ratio: 6.897, 95% confidence interval: 3.012– 15.625, p< 0.001) were significant risk factors associated with suicide repetition. Conclusion: Pesticide suicide repeaters were characterized by less likely to be married and more likely to use psychiatric services before suicide attempts. This study investigates surface oxidized layers of Cu-Fe-Zn-P (C194) and Cu-Ni-Si-Mg (C7025) lead frames under different oxidation conditions and their influence on the adhesion of epoxy molding compounds with lead frames. Micro-etching and electroplating are adopted to roughen the surface. Isothermal heat treatments which simulate molding and curing processes, as well as high temperature aging, are carried out to oxidize lead frame surface. According to the absorption peaks of FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) spectra, the topmost surface of the oxide layer can be easily identified. In combination with the reduction potential and time obtained from the coulometric reduction test, the variation of oxide phases along the through-thickness direction can also be revealed. Experimental results show that in addition to surface roughness, surface oxides and their thickness play more important roles in the interfacial strength between lead frames and epoxy molding compounds. In the case of the surface with one single Cu 2 O layer, an increase in oxide layer results in a decrease in bonding strength. Once the topmost surface forms CuO, the bonding strength could be enhanced due to a greater surface energy. Owing to global competition, integrated circuit (IC) design houses are facing challenges in the optimal use of capacity and resources to fulfill customer demands and maximize profit. A hybrid make-to-stock (MTS) and make-to-order (MTO) model is generally used. Wafer procurement is made according to customers’ long-term demand forecast based on MTS. Limited wafer fab resources and back-end capacity are first allocated to on-hand orders and then to forecast demand. In production planning, several factors need to be considered to determine the production quantity and inventory level, such as the material, capacity, substitute, technical constraint, and order tardiness. This study considers a typical multi-stage supply chain network of semiconductor back-end production with turnkey service for IC design houses. The objective is to maximize the total profit with the constraints of equipment capacity, the flexibility of substitutes, and the usage of the turnkey mode. The problem is formulated with a mixed-integer programming model and solved using two novel heuristic algorithms: a product-based decomposition (PD_SCP) with profit-based criteria and a Lagrangian decomposition combined with the product-based decomposition (LD-SCP) method. Using the LD-SCP algorithm takes a long time but results in a great solution. Sensitivity analysis is conducted to investigate the impact of different parameters on production cost and total profit. Abstract: Hydrogel‐based electronics are ideally suited for neural interfaces because they exhibit ultracompliant mechanical properties that match that of excitable tissue in the brain and peripheral nerve. Hydrogel‐based multielectrode arrays (MEAs) can conformably interface with tissues to minimize inflammation and improve the reliability to enhance signal transduction. However, MEA substrates composed of swollen hydrogels exhibit low toughness and poor adhesion when laminated on the tissue surface and also present incompatibilities with processes commonly used in MEA fabrication. Here, a strategy to fabricate an ultracompliant MEA is described based on aqueous‐phase transfer printing. This technique employs redox active adhesive motifs in hygroscopic polymer precursors that simultaneously form hydrogels through sol–gel phase transitions and bond to materials in the underlying microelectronic structures. Specifically, in situ gelation of four‐arm‐polyethylene glycol‐grafted catechol [PEG‐Dopa]4 hydrogels induced by oxidation using Fe3+ produces conformal adhesive contact with the underlying MEA, robust adhesion to electronic sub‐structures, and rapid dissolution of water‐soluble sacrificial release layers. MEAs are integrated on hydrogel‐based substrates to produce free‐standing ultracompliant neural probes, which are then laminated to the surface of the dorsal root ganglia in feline subjects to record single‐unit neural activity. An antisolvent (iodobenzene, IB) was used to assist the formation of closely packed CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 (MAPbI 3 ) thin films during the one-step spin-coating process using different volumes of IB. The morphological, structural, optical and excitonic properties of MAPbI 3 thin films were analyzed using a contact-mode atomic-force microscope, X-ray diffractometer, broadband absorbance spectrometer and optical microscope-based time-resolved photoluminescence spectrometer. The properties of the resultant MAPbI 3 thin films can be manipulated by using different IB volumes, which dominates the device performance of MAPbI 3 based photovoltaic cells. The experimental results show that the grain size (or particle size) of MAPbI 3 thin films influences the collection of photoexcited carriers and the contact at the 6,6-Phenyl C 61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)/MAPbI 3 interface, thereby resulting in a trade-off between the fill factor (FF) and short-circuit current density (J SC ). In addition, it is predicted that the power conversion efficiency (PCE) can be further improved by increasing the crystallinity of the MAPbI 3 thin film while keeping the small grain size. The redox performances of 1–10 wt% Na-modified Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 oxygen carrier from seawater were investigated using syngas/air as reactive gases in the thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and lab-scaled semi-fluidized bed reactor (semi-FzBR). NaNO 3(aq) as the source of sodium dopants to prepare Na-contained solution was implemented by an air atmospheric pressure plasma jet (Air-APPJ) process, which can increase the feasibility of seawater. For the prepared samples, the materials properties, including crystalline phases, surface morphologies, surface areas, and attrition loss performances were well correlated with the Na contents. The results indicated that the poor reduction kinetics and attrition resistance were obtained with the Na adjunction over 5 wt%, attributing to the sintering issue on excessive phases of Na 2 (Al, Fe) 12 O 19 and Na(Al, Fe)O 2 solid solution in the samples. Therefore, the slight incorporation of Na content in the Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 samples which improved the reduction rate was proved as the candidate oxygen carriers. Particularly, the Na content with 1 wt% in Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 sample (Na1FA32) can significantly promote the reduction behavior, thermal stability, and attrition resistance as compared to the raw Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 oxygen carrier. The relative abundance and low cost of electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) make it a viable oxygen carrier for chemical looping combustion (CLC) system. Under a reducing agent, zinc ferrite (ZnFe 2 O 4 ) phase in EAFD releases zinc vapor in a complex gas-solid reaction. In an effort to suppress the emission of zinc vapor, the reaction mechanism of ZnFe 2 O 4 prepared as an oxygen carrier in a redox cycling test is primarily discussed, as well as the issue of coupling with an inert Al 2 O 3 support. The study focused the investigation on redox cycling behavior and CO2 conversion in ZnFe 2 O 4 /Al 2 O 3 and EAFD/Al 2 O 3 systems using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and fixed-bed reactor (FxBR). In a lab-scaled semi-fluidized bed reactor (semi-FzBR) of EAFD/Al 2 O 3 as an oxygen carrier system, a high CO gas yield approximately 0.98 after fifty redox cycles is also experimentally obtained. The use of seawater as catalytic agents for hematite (Fe 2 O 3 ) as oxygen carrier in chemical looping combustion process is attractive, because of its abundance and low cost. Unfortunately, seawater itself with major NaCl compound under reactive species accompanying the volatilization of chlorine-containing gases probably lead to the corrosion on reactors during the combustion process. In this study, the feasibility evaluation of sodium dopants extracted from seawater as an effective catalytic agent via an air atmospheric pressure plasma jet (Air-APPJ) is performed, and as such it is combined with Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 to assess any possible enhancement on the reduction kinetics. The sodium-contained solutions, NaNO 3(aq) and NaCl (aq) , as precursors are used to prepare the sodium dopants due to the evaporation-decomposition of water and dissolved salts via plasma discharge reaction. The sodium-modified Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 oxygen carrier can significantly promote the efficiency of the carbon capture efficiency and CO 2 yield. Especially for the NaCl (aq) as precursor in an Air-APPJ system, the high carbon capture efficiency, CO 2 molar fraction and CO 2 yield around 0.96, 0.95 and 0.91 after fifty redox cycle for the sodium-modified Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 oxygen carrier are achieved. It can be anticipated that the sodium-modified Fe 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 from seawater by an Air-APPJ system as an oxygen carrier candidate in a reversible CLC process would be notably attractive. Chronic brain stimulation has become a promising physical therapy with increased efficacy and efficiency in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The application of deep brain electrical stimulation (DBS) combined with manganese-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MEMRI) provides an unbiased representation of the functional anatomy, which shows the communication between areas of the brain responding to the therapy. However, it is challenging for the current system to provide a real-time high-resolution image because the incorporated MnCl 2 solution through microinjection usually results in image blurring or toxicity due to the uncontrollable diffusion of Mn 2+ . In this study, we developed a new type of conductive nanogel-based neural interface composed of amphiphilic chitosan-modified poly(3,4 -ethylenedioxythiophene) (PMSDT) that can exhibit biomimic structural/mechanical properties and ionic/electrical conductivity comparable to that of Au. More importantly, the PMSDT enables metal-ligand bonding with Mn 2+ ions, so that the system can release Mn 2+ ions rather than MnCl 2 solution directly and precisely controlled by electrical stimulation (ES) to achieve real-time high-resolution MEMRI. With the integration of PMSDT nanogel-based coating in polyimide-based microelectrode arrays, the post-implantation DBS enables frequency-dependent MR imaging in vivo , as well as small focal imaging in response to channel site-specific stimulation on the implant. The MR imaging of the implanted brain treated with 5-min electrical stimulation showed a thalamocortical neuronal pathway after 36 h, confirming the effective activation of a downstream neuronal circuit following DBS. By eliminating the susceptibility to artifact and toxicity, this system, in combination with a MR-compatible implant and a bio-compliant neural interface, provides a harmless and synchronic functional anatomy for DBS. The study demonstrates a model of MEMRI-functionalized DBS based on functional neural interface engineering and controllable delivery technology, which can be utilized in more detailed exploration of the functional anatomy in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Sintered silver paste is widely used as the die-attachment material for power semiconductors. However, sintered silver joints encounter problems, such as severe coarsening of sintered pores and oxidation issues, in harsh high-temperature environments. These lead to the deterioration of the die-attachment joints. In this paper, a novel method of sintering silver joints is demonstrated, where silver–indium alloy paste is used to improve the reliability of sintered Ag joints. The silver–indium (Ag–In) alloy paste was fabricated through mechanical alloying using the ball-milling technique. The well-bonded sintered Ag–In alloy joints inhibited pore coarsening better than pure sintered Ag joints and significantly enhanced the mechanical properties at high operating temperatures. Lastly, an oxidation mechanism for the sintered joint was proposed, and strategies to prevent such high-temperature oxidation were discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The biocompatible thiol-functionalized rGOSH/PMASH microcapsules encapsulating nerve growth factor (NGF) are arrayed onto a transparent and conductive substrate, i.e., indium tin oxide (ITO), to integrate electrically stimulated cellular differentiation, electrically controlled NGF release, and topographically rough nano-surfaces into a 3-D platform for nerve regeneration. The rGOSH/PMASH microcapsules with microscale topography function not only as an adhesive coating to promote the adhesion of PC12 cells but also as electroactive NGF-releasing electrodes that stimulate NGF release and accelerate the differentiation of PC12 cells during electrical stimulation. Once electrical treatment is applied, NGF release and electrically enhanced cellular differentiation lead to an obvious increase both in the percentage of cells with neurites and in the neurite length. This length can reach nearly 90 μm within 2 days of cell culture. The average neurite length is significantly increased (four-fold) after culture on the rGOSH/PMASH microcapsule substrate for 2 days compared with culture on a substrate without an rGOSH/PMASH coating. These multifunctional rGOSH/PMASH microcapsules may be used as potential 3-D patterned substrates for neural regeneration and neural prosthetics in tissue engineering applications. Abstract: Chitosan is among the most abundant biopolymers on earth and has been either used or exhibited potential in a wide variety of industrial and biomedical applications. With the advancement of materials technologies, chitosan has been chemically modified to self-assemble into nanoarchitectures that are usable in advanced biomedical applications, such as drug nanocarriers, macroscopic injectables, tissue-engineering scaffolds, and nanoimaging agents. Colloidal amphiphilically modified chitosan (AMC) is a relatively recent material receiving increased attention with numerous publications addressing the medical advantages of specific systems. To date, many reviews have focused on the synthesis and biomedical properties of chitosan-based biomaterials, but a comprehensive study focusing on the colloidal properties of AMC in relation to biomedical performance appears to be lacking. This review provides a survey of the field, critically reviewing the colloidal properties and biomedical performance of AMC systems, such as nanoparticle drug delivery systems and macroscopic medical devices. Patients with a long-term PEG may suffer from complications and received physical and endoscopic examinations. However, these examinations do not provide information between skin and stomach. We present the findings of computed tomography (CT) for patients with long-term percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). After 1 year PEG (183 patients), 57 patients had received CT examinations. Skin indentation, soft-tissue thickening, peritoneal gap, internal bumper migration, and clinical abnormalities detected by CT examination were recorded. Thickness of subcutaneous fat, muscle, and abdominal wall along the tract were measured. The same parameters at 3 cm away from the tract were obtained for comparison. CT demonstrated that 28 (49.1%) patients present soft-tissue thickening, 19 (33.3%) patients present skin indentation, and 24 (42.1%) patients present a peritoneal gap. One patient with internal bumper migration, 3 patients had buried bumper syndrome, 2 patients had gastric herniation, and 1 patient had esophageal cancer metastasizes to the PEG site. Thickness of subcutaneous fat, muscle, and abdominal wall decreased significant. CT can provide detailed anatomy and orientation along the PEG tube. Abstract: A flexible drug delivery device was designed and fabricated using electrophoretic deposition of drug-carrying magnetic core-shell Fe3O4 at SiO2 nanoparticles onto an electrically conductive flexible PET substrate. The PET substrate was first patterned to a desired layout and subjected to deposition. In doing so, a uniform and nanoporous membrane could be produced. After lamination of the patterned membranes, a final chip-like device of thickness less than 0.5mm is formed that is used for controlled delivery of an anti-epileptic drug, i.e., ethosuximide (ESM). The release of useful drugs can be controlled by directly modulating the magnetic field, and the chip is capable of demonstrating a variety of release profiles (i.e., slow release, sustained release, step-wise release and burst release profiles). These profiles can follow a wide spectrum of patterns ranging from zero to pulsatile release kinetics depending on the mode of magnetic operation. When the magnetic field was removed, the release behavior was instantly ceased, and vice versa. A preliminary in-vivo study using Long–Evans rat model has demonstrated a significant reduction in spike-wave discharge after the ESM was burst released from the chip under the same magnetic induction as in-vitro, indicating the potential application of the drug delivery chip. The flexible and membrane-like drug delivery chip utilizes drug-carrying magnetic nanoparticles as the building blocks that ensure a rapid and precise response to magnetic stimulus. Moreover, the flexible chip may offer advantages over conventional drug delivery devices by improvement of dosing precision, ease of operation, wider versatility of elution pattern, and better compliance. Biohybrid neural interfaces (BHNIs) are a new class of neuromodulating devices that integrate neural microelectrode arrays (MEAs) and cell transplantation to improve treatment of nerve injuries and disorders. However, current BHNI devices are made from abiotic materials that are usually bio‐passive, non‐biodisintegratable, or rigid, which restricts encapsulated cell activity and host nerve reconstruction and frequently leads to local tissue inflammation. Herein, the first MEA composed of all disintegratable hydrogel tissue scaffold materials with synergistic performances of tissue conformal adhesiveness, MEA technologies, tissue scaffolding and stem cell therapy on a time scale appropriate for nerve tissue repair is proposed. In particular, the MEA conductive tracks are made from extracellular matrix (ECM)‐based double‐cross‐linked dual‐electrically conductive hydrogel (ECH) systems with robust tissue‐mimicking chemical/physical properties, electrical conductivity, and an affinity for neural progenitor stem cells. Meanwhile, the MEA hydrogel substrate prepared from transglutaminase‐incorporated gelatin/silk precursors simultaneously promotes gelation and interfacial adhesion between all MEA stacks, leading to rapid and scalable device integration. When the full hydrogel MEA is subjected to various mechanical stimuli and moisture, it is structurally stable with a low impedance (4 ± 3 kΩ) comparable to a recently reported benchmark. With seamless lamination around peripheral nerve fibers, the device permits successive neural signal monitoring for wound condition evaluation, while demonstrating synergistic effects of spatiotemporally controlled electrical stimulation and cell transplantation to accelerate restoration of motor function. This BHNI is completely degraded by 1 month thus eliminating the need for surgical retrieval to stably remain, interact, and further fuse with host tissues, successfully exhibiting compatible integration of biology and an implanted electrical system. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) applied for aptasensing is being extensively studied for a variety of targets. Substitution of a symmetric electrode configuration for a conventional three-electrode setup on EIS aptasensing is becoming a trend due to its simple and favorable characteristics for biochip fabrication. However, a single Randles circuit is often used for impedance element parameter fitting in symmetric electrode aptasensing without rationalized basis of validity to date. In this work, an AC impedance model is derived for proving the validity of simplifying a symmetric Randles circuits in series into a single one and is examined with aptasensing applications. With the model, circuit parameter relationships can be quantified and correlated between symmetric and three-electrode configurations. The relationships are verified by comparing the fitted parameters obtained from standard gold electrodes (SGEs), microfabricated symmetric Au electrodes, and interdigitated array (IDA) Au electrode chips with different surface and detection conditions. The model is then found valid for different redox species composition (either Fe(CN) 6 3− or Fe(CN) 6 3−/4- is used) and for both blank and aptamer modified surfaces. From aptasensing of thrombin and tumor marker mucin 1 (MUC1), it is proved that the measured dissociation constants (K D : 129.4 nM for thrombin and 16.3 nM for MUC1) remain the same between a symmetric and three-electrode configuration, but the maximum change of charge transfer resistance (B max) is doubled in the symmetric one. This means that the symmetric configuration not only yields the same K D , but also results in a doubled binding signal for EIS aptasensing. Simple Summary: Systemic therapy is current standard treatment for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with macrovascular invasion (MaVI). However, the outcome is poor. In the present study, we analyzed the outcome of patients treated with combined sorafenib, radiotherapy (RT), and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) or sorafenib alone. The result showed superior overall survival in the combined modality group. Moreover, we conducted propensity score matching and multivariable analysis, showing that combined modality resulted in superior overall survival. Thus, we concluded adding TACE and RT to sorafenib might prolong survival in patients with HCC and MaVI. Background: Approximately 10–40% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients have definite vascular invasion at the time of diagnosis. Without curative treatment options, these patients have an abysmal prognosis with a median survival of only a few months following systemic therapy. However, supportive evidence of combining multiple locoregional treatments with systemic therapy is limited. This study compared the outcomes of sorafenib alone versus multimodality therapy with sorafenib, radiotherapy (RT), and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in advanced HCC patients with macrovascular invasion (MaVI). Methods: The process took place over a nine-year period between March 2009 and October 2017, wherein 78 HCC patients with MaVI who underwent either sorafenib therapy alone (n = 49) or combined sorafenib/RT/TACE (n = 29) therapy were chosen for the retrospective study. We compared the overall survival (OS) between the two groups using the Cox regression hazard model and adjusted imbalances using propensity score matching (PSM). Results: At the last follow-up, 76 patients had died, with a median follow-up time of 4.8 months for all patients and 31 months for those who were alive. Patients treated with sorafenib/RT/TACE had superior OS compared to those treated with sorafenib alone, showing a median survival of 9.3 vs. 2.7 months and a one-year survival of 37.1% vs. 6.1% (p < 0.001). In the multivariable analysis, new diagnosis or recurrence of HCC and treatment modalities (sorafenib alone vs. sorafenib/RT/TACE) were independent prognostic factors for OS. Compared to patients treated with sorafenib alone, significantly better OS was further verified using PSM (p < 0.001) in patients who received multiple therapeutic modalities. Conclusion: Multimodality therapy with sorafenib/RT/TACE increased OS threefold versus sorafenib therapy alone in HCC patients with MaVI. The possibility of using electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) as regenerable sorbents to adsorptive hydrogen sulfide was studied. To avoid the releasing of zinc vapor and leaching of heavy metal matter, the addition of Al 2 O 3 was used as inert stabilizer to suppress the volatilization of zinc vapor and generate a more stable chemical forms in EAFD. The results of redox behavior and toxicity characteristic leaching procedure show that Al 2 O 3 are excellent stabilizers for EAFD of industrial waste. Multi-cycle tests of sulfidation/regeneration showed that the prepared EAFD/Al 2 O 3 sorbents can be regenerated and thus reused after the regeneration process. After ten sulfidation/regeneration cycles, the sulfur capacity of the tenth cycle remained approximately on a level of 79% of the sulfur capacity in the first cycle. The results based on the material characterization and sulfidation/regeneration performance evaluation showed that EAFD/Al 2 O 3 sorbent has desirable physical and chemical properties for the desulfurization of simulated syngas at high-Temperature range. As a transmitter power amplifier (PA), the electrical output characteristics of gallium nitride (GaN) high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) are closely related to the drain current versus drain voltage (${I}_{d}$ – ${V}_{d}$) characteristics. Any abnormalities in the ${I}_{d}$ – ${V}_{d}$ characteristics will seriously affect device performance. Therefore, many groups have investigated the kink effect of GaN HEMTs. One of the commonly used measurement methods of the kink effect is the ${I}_{d}$ – ${V}_{d}$ forward and reverse sweep. In this study, we used the same method for Al2O3/Si3N4–AlGaN/GaN metal–insulator–semiconductor HEMT (MIS HEMT) devices. We found that not only did the kink effect occurred but ${I}_{d}$ also increased abnormally during the reverse sweep and after a series of electrical measurements. At the end of the forward sweep, impact ionization caused by a high ${V}_{d}$ generated electron–hole pairs and some holes accumulated under the gate region, which caused the negative shift of the threshold voltage (${V}_{\text{Th}}$), leading to an abnormal increase in ${I}_{d}$ during the reverse sweep. The use of scaled-down micro-bumps in miniaturized consumer electronic products has led to the easy realization of full intermetallic solder bumps owing to the completion of the wetting layer. However, the direct contact of the intermetallic compounds (IMCs) with the adhesion layer may pose serious reliability concerns. In this study, the terminal reaction of the Ti adhesion layer with Cu–Sn IMCs was investigated by aging the micro-bumps at 200 °C. Although all of the micro-bumps transformed into intermetallic structures after aging, they exhibited a strong attachment to the Ti adhesion layer, which differs significantly from the Cr system where spalling of IMCs occurred during the solid-state reaction. Moreover, the difference in the diffusion rates between Cu and Sn might have induced void formation during aging. These voids progressed to the center of the bump through the depleting Cu layer. However, they neither affected the attachment between the IMCs and the adhesion layer nor reduced the strength of the bumps. We developed a surfactant-free method utilizing amifostine to stably link a targeting ligand (Herceptin) to amphiphilic gelatin (AG)-iron oxide@calcium phosphate (CaP) nanoparticles with hydrophobic curcumin (CUR) and hydrophilic doxorubicin (DOX) encapsulated in the AG core and CaP shell (AGIO@CaP-CD), respectively. This multi-functional nanoparticle system has a pH-sensitive CaP shell and degradable amphiphilic gelatin (AG) core, which enables controllable sequential release of the two drugs. The dual-targeting system of AGIO@CaP-CD (HER-AGIO@CaP-CD) with a bioligand and magnetic targeting resulted in significantly elevated cellular uptake in HER2-overexpressing SKBr3 cells and more efficacious therapy than delivery of targeting ligand alone due to the synergistic cell multi-drug resistance/apoptosis-inducing effect of the CUR and DOX combination. This nanoparticle combined with Herceptin and iron oxide nanoparticles not only provided a dual-targeting functionality, but also encapsulated CUR and DOX as a dual-drug delivery system for the combination therapy. This study further demonstrated that the therapeutic efficacy of this dual-targeting co-delivery system can be improved by modifying the application duration of magnetic targeting, which makes this combination therapy system a powerful new tool for in vitro/in vivo cancer therapy, especially for HER2-positive cancers. Abstract: This study fabricated hydrogenated diamond-like carbon/silver bioceramic films on glass substrates using radio frequency magnetron sputtering with a single silver target in an atmosphere of Ar/CH4 mixture. The effects of applied power on the composition and microstructure of bioceramic film were evaluated. A phase transformation, amorphous diamond-like carbon → nano-silver precipitation → nano-silver growth in the amorphous diamond-like carbon matrix was observed during sputtering. The film growth rate, surface roughness, silver content and size of silver nanoclusters in the films all increased with the silver target power due to the higher flux of sputtered silver species toward the substrate. This study investigates an improvement in memory characteristics through depositing an In2O3 layer as an oxygen ion reservoir in the switching layer (SL) of resistive random access memory (RRAM). The deposition of In2O3, denoted as Pt/HfO2/In2O3/TiN device, provides better memory characteristics including lower forming voltage (VF), set/reset voltage (VSET/VRESET), larger memory window, and higher resistances with higher uniformity at low resistance state (LRS) and high resistance state (HRS), compared to the devices without the In2O3 deposition, denoted as Pt/HfO2/TiN device. The conduction mechanisms, verified through fitting current–voltage (I - V) curves, are consistent with the results of a varied temperature I - V experiment. HfZrOx (HZO)-based materials have received much attention due to their special film characteristics in recent years. Ferroelectric random access memory (FeRAM) based on this HZO material also has promising potential as a next generation memory due to its non-volatile characteristics, excellent endurance, and low power consumption. Previous research has mainly focused on the material properties of HZO-based FeRAM. However, an in-depth investigation of the electrical properties of HZO-based FeRAM is necessary to better understand its transporting mechanism. In this contribution, this study aims to investigate the mechanism of an HZO-based metal–ferroelectric-metal capacitor using comprehensive experimental results, including current–voltage, capacitance–voltage, and polarization–voltage measurements. Experiments at various temperatures are also conducted to help verify the transport mechanism. The low current transport by the Fowler–Nordheim tunneling mechanism does not change with temperature, whereas the high current transport via the Schottky mechanism increases with increasing temperature. We found that the orientation of the dipole plays an important role. Finally, we also propose a band model to explain the electron transport in this HZO-based FeRAM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explains the difference in the reset processes between single RRAM and 1T1R RRAM structures. In the single RRAM, as the reset voltage increases, the off-state resistance increases. This is a normal RRAM operation. However, in the 1T1R structure, the reset voltage increases while the OFF-state resistance does not increase. This may be caused by either current or voltage being insufficient to switch the RRAM to its higher resistance state. The measurements of real voltage indicate that the insufficient voltage is in fact the main cause. For the 1T1R RRAM structure, if it is to be reset to a higher resistance state, it is best done by increasing the gate voltage to increase the OFF-state resistance. This paper investigates material modifications induced by cosputtering indium-tin oxide (ITO) with gadolinium (Gd) at two different power levels. In addition, resistance switching (RS) properties were also verified for use as an insulator in resistive random access memory (RRAM). Comparison of scanning electron microscope (SEM) measurements for the two different cosputtering powers indicated significant changes of the ITO surface. Transparency was also verified by an N&K analyzer measurement, with results indicating a constant in transparency induced by the lower power Gd doping, indicating potential for transparent applications. Furthermore, the mole fraction ratio defined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals a Gd2O3 peak, a likely reason for the ITO thin film becoming less conductive. This ITO/Gd:ITO/TiN RRAM can exhibit stable and robust RS characteristics at a lower forming voltage. In addition, lower operating voltages, including both SET and RESET voltages, can be obtained. Reliability tests including endurance and retention were carried out to confirm its RS stability. The RS mechanism of this ITO/Gd:ITO/TiN device was also investigated with the current–voltage (${I}$ – ${V}$) fitting method. Moreover, temperature effects were also applied to verify the high-resistance state (HRS) mechanism. Abstract In this study, a facile co-electrodeposition method has been developed to co-deposit iridium oxide and human plasma proteins. We use a cyclic voltammetry (CV) approach for co-electrodeposition on indium tin oxide-coated glass substrates. We adjust the percentages of plasma proteins as 1%, 3%, 5% and 7% to obtain different film thicknesses. We also optimize the number of cycles to achieve the ideal thickness. Cyclic voltammetry, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were used for characterizing the deposited film. The results show that the plasma proteins can be successfully co-deposited with iridium oxide. The incorporation of plasma proteins results in an increase in the roughness of the film. The thickness of the electrodeposited layer is dependent on the concentration of plasma proteins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, vanadium oxide (VOx) was chosen for the resistive switching layer in a typical resistive random access memory (RRAM) structure. During negative forming bias, we found an initial selector property. This indicates the presence of metal–insulator-transition characteristics in the VOx layer even without an annealing process. In order to study this phenomenon, material analyses were conducted, with results indicating that there are V-O stretching bonds and an oxide/vanadium ratio of nearly 2.2 (${O}/{V} = {2.2}$). In addition, the experimental results of the dc sweeping test indicated that off-state current gradually decreased after each cycle, meaning that the selectivity characteristics in the VOx selector could be improved. Endurance performance of our experimental devices reached 108, sufficient for integration with RRAM devices in a 1S1R array. To further investigate this special phenomenon, current fitting analysis and simulation analyses were conducted. The results of the fitting analysis indicated that the conduction mechanism for off-state current was Schottky emission and the Schottky distance increased with increasing numbers of cycles. In other words, oxide ions migrate toward the filament at low negative voltage during dc sweeping, causing the formation of VOx. Furthermore, the results of thermal field simulation analysis indicated that there is a thermal concentration effect in and around the filament. Thus, oxide ions more easily migrate toward the vanadium filament when a stronger electrical field is present around the filament during dc sweeping cycles. In this study, an Ag-Cu alloy was chosen as the electrode in conductive bridging random access memory (CBRAM), with results indicating a significant decrease in forming voltage. In addition, resistive switching characteristics as well as a retention test indicated better stability and a resistive switching window of at least an order. The switching time of the Ag-Cu alloy CBRAM is shorter than that of both Ag and Cu electrode CBRAMs under fast current-voltage (fast I-V). The experimental result indicated that the mechanism was dominated by the galvanic effect. Active atoms (Ag) captured electrons of inactive atoms (Cu) and generated metallic ions (Cu ions) in the alloy electrode. Cu ions drifted into the insulator and generated a conductive path when applying voltage bias. Comprehensive studies were carried out to explore the roles of phenyl-C 61 -butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) thin films in inverted-type CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 (MAPbI 3 ) based photovoltaics, including the surface morphologies, transmittance spectra, photoluminescence spectra, X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, Raman scattering spectra and thin-film residual stress analysis. The reduction in the photoluminescence line width indicates that the crystallinity of the MAPbI 3 thin film can be increased by covering it with the PCBM thin film. The XRD patterns and Raman scattering spectra show a reduction in the compressive stress of MAPbI 3 thin film when covered by the PCBM thin film. In addition, it is noted that the residual stress at the contact interface between the hydrophilic MAPbI 3 and the hydrophobic PCBM can be ignored as confirmed by the results obtained with a home-made Twyman-Green interferometer. Consequently, the superior optoelectronic properties of the perovskite materials, as well as the use of a multifunctional fullerene-based thin film as the capping layer allow for the high-efficiency perovskite photovoltaics. A series of nonpolar antisolvents (chlorobenzene, bromobenzene, iodobenzene and toluene) were used to assist in the formation of smooth and crystalline CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 thin films by a one-step spin-coating method. The structural, optical and excitonic characteristics of the resultant CH 3 NH 3 PI 3 thin films were analyzed using an atomic-force microscope, X-ray diffractometer, absorbance spectrum, photoluminescence (PL) spectrum, time-resolved PL and temperature-dependent PL. The properties of the CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 thin films are dependent on the relative polarity and boiling point of the nonpolar antisolvents used in the washing treatment process. The interplay between nucleation (relative polarity) and crystal growth (boiling point) during the formation of CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 thin films influences the short-circuit current density (J SC ) and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the corresponding solar cells. The experimental results demonstrate that iodobenzene can be substituted for toluene as a more efficient antisolvent in the washing treatment process during the fabrication of CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3 thin films. Background: We present the first comprehensive analysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) isolates circulating in southern Taiwan. In this 9-year population-based study, the TB situation in the Kaohsiung region was characterized by genotypic analysis of 421 MTB isolates. Methods: All 421 isolates of MTB were analyzed by spoligotyping and MIRU-VNTR typing. Drug-resistance patterns were also analyzed. Results: The percentage of EAI (East African-Indian) strains increased across sampling years (2000–2008) in southern Taiwan, whereas the proportion of Beijing lineages remained unchanged. Clustering was more frequent with EAI genotype infections (odds ratio = 3.6, p<0.0001) when compared to Beijing genotypes. Notably, MTB resistance to streptomycin (STR) had significantly increased over time, but resistance to other antibiotics, including multidrug resistance, had not. Three major genes (gidB, rpsL and rrs) implicated in STR resistance were sequenced and specific mutations identified. Conclusions: This study revealed that EAI strains were highly transmissible and that STR resistance has increased between 2000 and 2008 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although traditional 3D scaffolds or biomimetic hydrogels have been used for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, soft tissue microenvironment usually has a highly anisotropic structure and a dynamically controllable deformation with various biomolecule distribution. In this study, we developed a hierarchical hybrid gelatin methacrylate-microcapsule hydrogel (HGMH) with Neurotrophin-3(NT-3)-loaded PLGA microcapsules to fabricate anisotropic structure with patterned NT-3 distribution (demonstrated as striped and triangular patterns) by dielectrophoresis (DEP). The HGMH provides a dynamic biomimetic sinuate-microwrinkles change with NT-3 spatial gradient and 2-stage time-dependent distribution, which was further simulated using a 3D finite element model. As demonstrated, in comparison with striped-patterned hydrogel, the triangular-patterned HGMH with highly anisotropic array of microcapsules exhibits remarkably spatial NT-3 gradient distributions that can not only guide neural stem cells (NSCs) migration but also facilitate spinal cord injury regeneration. This approach to construct hierarchical 4D hydrogel system via an electromicrofluidic platform demonstrates the potential for building various biomimetic soft scaffolds in vitro tailed to real soft tissues. A technique was proposed to concentrate the distribution of set voltages. After a plasma treatment, the stability of the high-resistive state (HRS) increased, and the distribution of set voltages was more concentrated at 0.8 V, with a sufficient HRS/LRS resistive ratio (∼100x). In addition, the surface of the TiN electrode became rougher, causing oxygen to enter the TiN electrode and form a TiON layer, which acts as an oxygen reservoir. The reservoir is confirmed and the conduction model is supported by both electrical and material analyses. We propose that the observed improvement is due to the difference in the TiN electrode surface. This study proposes the design of conductive bridge random access memory (CBRAM) using an indium electrode, which diffuses into hafnium oxide. The device is found to exhibit good operating characteristics, maintaining a large operation window, low set and reset voltages, and advantageous operation speed, thereby reducing operating power consumption. Electrical experiments, transmission electron microscopy, and energy‐dispersive spectroscopy confirm that the device exhibits the characteristics of a CBRAM device.
