In view of the higher demand and customer expectations on the speed and accuracy of e-commerce logistics service as well as the repetitive and time-consuming nature of manual order processing operation. This paper proposes a robotic process automation (RPA) model to liberate human resources over time-consuming, inefficient, non-value-added, and repetitive operational processes occupying workforces. This paper proposed an RPA model that integrates three functional RPA bots in (1) tracking order status, (2) capturing order data, and (3) verifying order data to increase the efficiency and accuracy of logistics operation and the order-handling process in small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) logistics company. A case study was conducted on an SME logistics service providing customers with inbound and outbound operation services. The result demonstrated that the proposed model significantly improves logistics operations performance against a human approach concerning key indicators after implementation. Logistics companies could free up the workforce for value-creating activities in value-added services.

A majority of government and international organisations have chosen English as their official language since it is the only language in the world with the status of a global language and a world language. One of the key components of learning a language is oral communication; however, students frequently overlook the value of oral communication, which reduces the effectiveness of language acquisition. To enhance the motivation and effectiveness of non-native English speakers to learn and practise English, this study aims to develop an interactive self-learning and self-improvement approach. A well-designed and chatbot-assisted learning environment is designed, using a variety of concepts such as informal learning, language learning, mobile learning, and educational mobile application, and evaluated.

During the pandemic, the attention and demand for cold chain increased owing to considerable use of low-temperature logistics in transporting perishable goods and vaccines. To ensure the shipping performance for reduced damage, logistics companies are required to track continually and repetitively the status of shipments daily. However, typing various air waybills for searching the shipping status is a cause of frequent errors. Also, tracking the shipping status is labor-intensive, resource intensive, inefficient and repetitive. Moreover, repetitive tasks result in low employee satisfaction. Therefore, robotic process automation (RPA) applications have gained the attention of practitioners in the cold chain logistics industry. This study contributes to (i) determining possible areas requiring automation through the workflow study on cold chain logistics and (ii) streamlining the operation by the develop a robotic process automation bots. A case study tested and evaluated the performance of two unattended RPA bots applied in a freight forwarder company to check shipment status and temperature conditions. The results determined that implementing RPA in the workflow reduces significant data processing time. With the implementation of proposed RPA bots, the company can better comprehend its shipping performance of logistics and can get an immediate notification from RPA bots when an abnormal situation occurs with regard to a shipment.

Differing from managing a general supply chain, handling environmentally sensitive products (ESPs) requires the use of specific refrigeration systems to control the designated range of storage conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and lighting level in a cold chain environment. In general, third-party logistics (3PL) companies are authorized to handle ESPs, who therefore need to have a good cargo monitoring system in the cold chain environment, without which the functional quality is difficult to control and manage. This may result in product deterioration and even inventory obsolescence of the ESPs due to the lack of such systems, so there is a need to develop an effective cargo monitoring system to prevent such situations. This article proposes an Internet of Things-based cargo monitoring system (IoT-CMS) to monitor any environmental changes of ESPs in order to ensure their functional quality throughout the entire cold chain operational environment. Operational efficiency, maintenance strategy, environmental change, and electricity consumption are considered in real-life cold chain operations. Through applying (i) a wireless sensor network to collect real-time product information, together with (ii) fuzzy logic and case-based reasoning techniques to suggest appropriate storage conditions for various ESPs, effective storage guidance can be established. Through conducting the case study in a 3PL company in Hong Kong, the performance in customer satisfaction, obsolescence rate, and inventory visibility after adoption of IoT-CMS is evaluated. It is found that the functional quality of ESPs can be effectively assured, and the overall customer satisfaction is increased.

E-retailing is the delivery of products and services over the Internet, and it has been growing rapidly in recent years. Logistics services in the related warehouses have to be enhanced accordingly in order to handle the huge amount of e-orders in a shorter timeframe. Moreover, since the e-retailing of packaged food has been getting popular, these warehouses inevitably have to handle food products requiring special care, including temperature, humidity and insolation control, and expiry date management. Consequently, suitable storage guidelines have to be formulated for these warehouses to cope with their more demanding daily operations. A cloud-based location assignment system (CLAS) is thus proposed in this article, which provides timely and comprehensive solutions to the storage location assignment problem for warehouse operators. CLAS applies (i) cloud-based infrastructure for enhancing the agility of the proposed system, (ii) fuzzy association rule mining for predicting the potential storage time of various types of packaged food, and (iii) fuzzy logic and association rule mining for offering the most preferred storage locations of various products. A prototype of the CLAS is tested in a warehouse which involves packaged food handling. The test results show that the operational efficiency measured in terms of storage assignment decision-making time and order-picking time and the quality of the storage assignment solutions measured in terms of product disposal rate and product return/exchange rate have been improved in the case company.

Gout or pseudogout, caused by deposition of crystals, rarely affects the spine. We report 4 cases with gout or pseudogout in the lumbar spine. Two had cauda equina syndrome and another 2 had spinal stenosis. To avoid unnecessary surgery, this should be considered in the differential diagnosis when treating patients with histories of gout or pseudogout for spinal problems.

Lung cancer is a severe challenge to the health care system with intrinsic resistance to first and second-line chemo/radiotherapies. In view of the sterile environment of lung cancer, several immunotherapeutic drugs including nivolumab, pembrolizumab, atezolizumab, and durvalumab are currently being used in clinics globally with the intention of releasing exhausted T-cells back against refractory tumor cells. Immunotherapies have a limited response rate and may cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs) in some patients. Hence, a deeper understanding of regulating immune checkpoint interactions could significantly enhance lung cancer treatments. In this review, we explore the role of miRNAs in modulating immunogenic responses against tumors. We discuss various aspects of how manipulating these checkpoints can bias the immune system's response against lung cancer. Specifically, we examine how altering the miRNA profile can impact the activity of various immune checkpoint inhibitors, focusing on the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway within the complex landscape of lung cancer. We believe that a clear understanding of the host's miRNA profile can influence the efficacy of checkpoint inhibitors and significantly contribute to existing immunotherapies for lung cancer patients. Additionally, we discuss ongoing clinical trials involving immunotherapeutic drugs, both as standalone treatments and in combination with other therapies, intending to advance the development of immunotherapy for lung cancer., (© 2024. The mortality and hospitalization rate by COVID-19 dropped significantly currently, but its seasonal outbreaks make antiviral treatment still vital. In our study, syrian golden hamsters were treated with molnupiravir and interferons (IFNs) after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Their weight changes, pathological changes, virus replication and inflammation levels were evaluated. In the IFNs single treatment, only IFN-α group reduced viral load (p < 0.05) and virus titer in hamster lungs. The TNF-α expression decreased significantly in both IFNs treatment at 2dpi. Histological and immunofluorescence results showed lung damage in the IFNs groups were milder at 4dpi. In the molnupiravir/IFN-α combination treatment, weight loss and virus replication in lung were significantly decreased in the mono-molnupiravir group and combination group (p < 0.05), the expression of IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β and MIP-1α also decreased significantly (p < 0.05), but the combination treatment was not more effective than the mono-molnupiravir treatment. Histological and immunofluorescence results showed the lung damage and inflammation in mono-molnupiravir and combination groups were milder. In summary, IFNs treatment had anti-inflammatory effect against SARS-CoV-2, only IFN-α showed a weak antiviral effect. Molnupiravir/IFN-α combination treatment was effective against SARS-CoV-2 but was not superior to mono-molnupiravir treatment. Cell cycle dysregulation is a hallmark of cancer that promotes eccessive cell division. Cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) and cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6) are key molecules in the G1-to-S phase cell cycle transition and are crucial for the onset, survival, and progression of breast cancer (BC). Small-molecule CDK4/CDK6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) block phosphorylation of tumor suppressor Rb and thus restrain susceptible BC cells in G1 phase. Three CDK4/6i are approved for the first-line treatment of patients with advanced/metastatic hormone receptor-positive (HR + )/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2 - ) BC in combination with endocrine therapy (ET). Though this has improved the clinical outcomes for survival of BC patients, there is no established standard next-line treatment to tackle drug resistance. Recent studies suggest that CDK4/6i can modulate other distinct effects in both BC and breast stromal compartments, which may provide new insights into aspects of their clinical activity. Background: The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has lasted for three years. Coinfection with seasonal influenza may occur resulting in more severe diseases. The interaction between these two viruses for infection and the effect of antiviral treatment remains unclear., Methods: A SARS-CoV-2 and influenza H1N1 coinfection model on Calu-3 cell line was established, upon which the simultaneous and sequential coinfection was evaluated by comparing the viral load. The efficacy of molnupiravir and baloxavir against individual virus and coinfection were also studied., Results: The replication of SARS-CoV-2 was significantly interfered when the influenza virus was infected simultaneously or in advance (p < 0.05). On the contrary, the replication of the influenza virus was not affected by the SARS-CoV-2. Molnupiravir monotherapy had significant inhibitory effect on SARS-CoV-2 when the concentration reached to 6.25 μM but did not show any significant anti-influenza activity. Baloxavir was effective against influenza within the dosage range and showed significant effect of anti-SARS-CoV-2 at 16 μM. In the treatment of coinfection, molnupiravir had significant effect for SARS-CoV-2 from 6.25 μM to 100 μM and inhibited H1N1 at 100 μM (p < 0.05). The tested dosage range of baloxavir can inhibit H1N1 significantly (p < 0.05), while at the highest concentration of baloxavir did not further inhibit SARS-CoV-2, and the replication of SARS-CoV-2 significantly increased in lower concentrations. Combination treatment can effectively inhibit influenza H1N1 and SARS-CoV-2 replication during coinfection. Compared with molnupiravir or baloxavir monotherapy, combination therapy was more effective in less dosage to inhibit the replication of both viruses., Conclusions: In coinfection, the replication of SARS-CoV-2 would be interfered by influenza H1N1. Colorectal cancer (CRC) stands as one of the most prevalent form of cancer globally, causing a significant number of deaths, surpassing 0.9 million in the year 2020. According to GLOBOCAN 2020, CRC ranks third in incidence and second in mortality in both males and females. Despite extensive studies over the years, there is still a need to establish novel therapeutic targets to enhance the patients' survival rate in CRC. Nuclear receptors (NRs) are ligand-activated transcription factors (TFs) that regulate numerous essential biological processes such as differentiation, development, physiology, reproduction, and cellular metabolism. Dysregulation and anomalous expression of different NRs has led to multiple alterations, such as impaired signaling cascades, mutations, and epigenetic changes, leading to various diseases, including cancer. It has been observed that differential expression of various NRs might lead to the initiation and progression of CRC, and are correlated with poor survival outcomes in CRC patients. Despite numerous studies on the mechanism and role of NRs in this cancer, it remains of significant scientific interest primarily due to the diverse functions that various NRs exhibit in regulating key hallmarks of this cancer. Thus, modulating the expression of NRs with their agonists and antagonists, based on their expression levels, holds an immense prospect in the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutical modalities of CRC. Despite the promising antitumor activity of SHP2 inhibitors in RAS-dependent tumours, overall responses have been limited by their narrow therapeutic window. Like with all MAPK pathway inhibitors, this is likely the result of compensatory pathway activation mechanisms. However, the underlying mechanisms of resistance to SHP2 inhibition remain unknown. The E3 ligase SMURF2 limits TGFβ activity by ubiquitinating and targeting the TGFβ receptor for proteosome degradation. Using a functional RNAi screen targeting all known phosphatases, we identify that the tyrosine phosphatase SHP2 is a critical regulator of TGFβ activity. Specifically, SHP2 dephosphorylates two key residues on SMURF2, resulting in activation of the enzyme. Conversely, SHP2 depletion maintains SMURF2 in an inactive state, resulting in the maintenance of TGFβ activity. Furthermore, we demonstrate that depleting SHP2 has significant implications on TGFβ-mediated migration, senescence, and cell survival. These effects can be overcome through the use of TGFβ-targeted therapies. The identification of thermodynamic descriptors of catalytic performance is essential for the rational design of heterogeneous catalysts. Here, we investigate how spillover energy, a descriptor quantifying whether intermediates are more stable at the dopant or host metal sites, can be used to design single-atom alloys (SAAs) for formic acid dehydrogenation. Using theoretical calculations, we identify NiCu as a SAA with favorable spillover energy and demonstrate that formate intermediates produced after the initial O-H activation are more stable at Ni sites where rate-determining C-H activation occurs. Surface science experiments demonstrated that NiCu(111) SAAs are more reactive than Cu(111) while they still follow the formate reaction pathway. However, reactor studies of silica-supported NiCu SAA nanoparticles showed only a modest improvement over Cu resulting from surface coverage effects. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of engineering SAAs using spillover energy as a design parameter and highlights the importance of adsorbate-adsorbate interactions under steady-state operation.

Active school commuting (ASC) has been proposed as a practical way to inculcate positive physical activity habits in children. This paper reviews the current evidence regarding ASC among children, highlights advances in research techniques and existing limitations in the field, and outlines future implications for research and promotion. A comprehensive literature search was conducted to identify English language studies on ASC among children aged 6-12 years, followed by a narrative review. ASC has witnessed a global decline, despite evidence of its contribution to physical activity levels. Context-dependent factors such as commuting distance and parental safety concerns are consistently identified as key determinants of ASC. Several promising interventions have been identified. Despite the limitations in intervention scope and quality, notable advancements in research techniques, such as multilevel regression and agent-based modelling, have been identified. Effective promotion of ASC to tackle childhood physical inactivity requires collaborative efforts among schools, parents, and the government, and should be tailored to address multilevel determinants within the local context. Future research should leverage recent advancements in research techniques to develop effective promotion strategies, while considering the context-dependent nature of ASC behaviours and addressing existing limitations, including the lack of standardised definitions and limited geographical and age coverage., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.

The PI3K/AKT/mTOR (PAM) signaling pathway is a highly conserved signal transduction network in eukaryotic cells that promotes cell survival, cell growth, and cell cycle progression. Growth factor signalling to transcription factors in the PAM axis is highly regulated by multiple cross-interactions with several other signaling pathways, and dysregulation of signal transduction can predispose to cancer development. The PAM axis is the most frequently activated signaling pathway in human cancer and is often implicated in resistance to anticancer therapies. Dysfunction of components of this pathway such as hyperactivity of PI3K, loss of function of PTEN, and gain-of-function of AKT, are notorious drivers of treatment resistance and disease progression in cancer. In this review we highlight the major dysregulations in the PAM signaling pathway in cancer, and discuss the results of PI3K, AKT and mTOR inhibitors as monotherapy and in co-administation with other antineoplastic agents in clinical trials as a strategy for overcoming treatment resistance. Finally, the major mechanisms of resistance to PAM signaling targeted therapies, including PAM signaling in immunology and immunotherapies are also discussed., (© 2023. Objectives: We examined for differences in pre-left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation myocardial transcriptome signatures among patients with different degrees of mitral regurgitation (MR)., Methods: Between January 2018 and October 2019, we collected left ventricular (LV) cores during durable LVAD implantation (n = 72). A retrospective chart review was performed. Total RNA was isolated from LV cores and used to construct cDNA sequence libraries. The libraries were sequenced with the NovaSeq system, and data were quantified using Kallisto. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) and Gene Ontology analyses were performed, with a false discovery rate <0.05 considered significant., Results: Comparing patients with preoperative mild or less MR (n = 30) and those with moderate-severe MR (n = 42), the moderate-severe MR group weighted less (P = .004) and had more tricuspid valve repairs (P = .043), without differences in demographics or comorbidities. We then compared both groups with a group of human donor hearts without heart failure (n = 8). Compared with the donor hearts, there were 3985 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) for mild or less MR and 4587 DEGs for moderate-severe MR. Specifically altered genes included 448 DEGs for specific for mild or less MR and 1050 DEGs for moderate-severe MR. On GSEA, common regulated genes showed increased immune gene expression and reduced expression of contraction and energetic genes. Of the 1050 genes specific for moderate-severe MR, there were additional up-regulated genes related to inflammation and reduced expression of genes related to cellular proliferation., Conclusions: Patients undergoing durable LVAD implantation with moderate-severe MR had increased activation of genes related to inflammation and reduction of cellular proliferation genes. Vascular injury following traumatic knee injury quoted in the literature ranges from 3.3 to 65%, depending on the magnitude and pattern of the injury. Timely recognition is crucial to ensure the revascularization is done within 6 to 8 hours from the time of injury to avoid significant morbidity, amputation, and medicolegal ramifications. We present a case of an ischemic limb following delayed diagnosis of popliteal artery injury after knee dislocation. Even though we have successfully repaired the popliteal artery, the evolving ischemia over the distal limb poses a reconstruction challenge. Multiple surgical debridement procedures were performed to control the local tissue infection. Free tissue transfer with chimeric latissimus dorsi flap was done to resurface the defect. However, the forefoot became gangrenous despite a free muscle flap transfer. His limb appeared destined for amputation in the vicinity of tissue and recipient vessels, but we chose to use a cross-leg free flap as an option for limb salvage., Competing Interests: Conflict of Interest None declared., (The Author(s). Previous studies have shown that seasonal influenza strikes annually causing millions to fall sick and several hundred thousand to die globally. Hence, universal vaccination is a public health aim to control influenza. The Hong Kong Government started to introduce the School Outreach Vaccination (SOV) program in 2018 to increase vaccination rates in children. This study looked at the impact this had on hospital admissions and estimated vaccination rates in the total population, using a questionnaire-based tool. The SOV program significantly increased vaccination coverage rates with a 1% increase associated with a reduction of 4.3 influenza-related hospital admissions of school-aged children. The estimation of vaccine coverage rates among the under 5-year olds (48.5%), primary school children (69.3%) and over 65-year olds (45.7%), through the questionnaire-based tool, was within the 95% confidence interval of the coverage rates published by the Center for Health Protection of the Hong Kong Government, 47.4%, 68.1% and 45.8%, respectively. Extension of the SOV program should be considered in secondary schools to increase the coverage rates in adolescents. The questionnaire survey may inform government how to achieve universal vaccination for specific age groups.

Aim: Many young people with mental health problems refuse to seek help because of stigma and leave the problem untreated. Previous research suggests that contact interventions with education could improve the stigma of mental illness in young people, thereby encouraging help-seeking in distress. The current study examined the effectiveness of a multifaceted programme, the Mindshift educational networking programme (MENP), in promoting a positive mental health culture in Hong Kong secondary schools., Methods: The MENP provided activities at school, teacher and student levels to 14 Hong Kong secondary schools. School activities included visits, mental health talks and support for capstone projects. While teachers participated in workshops and regional seminars, students received ambassador training workshops, contact opportunities with people with psychosis and attachment programmes. The impact of MENP was evaluated by changes in students' knowledge, attitudes and behaviours toward people with psychosis and mental illness before and after the programme, as well as by teachers' feedback on the programme., Results: This study analysed data from 55 students and 20 teachers. It was found that the MENP improved students' knowledge of mood symptoms (p = .03), acceptance of people with psychosis (p = .04) and intended behaviour toward people with mental illness (p = .02). The feedback of the teachers on the programme was positive., Conclusions: The results support the application of the multifaceted approach to promote a positive mental health culture in schools. Background: The Philippines has recommended the use of Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) in government health technology assessments (HTA). We aimed to develop a value set for the EQ-5D-5L based on health preferences of the healthy general adult population in the Philippines., Methods: Healthy, literate adults were recruited from the Philippine general population with quota targets based on age, sex, administrative region, type of residence, education, income, and ethnolinguistic groups. Each participant's preference was elicited by completing Composite Time Trade-Off (C-TTO) and Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) tasks. Tasks were computer-assisted using the EuroQol Valuation Technology 2.0. To estimate the value set, we explored 20- and 8-parameter models that either use c-TTO-only data or both c-TTO and DCE (also called hybrid models). Final model choice was guided by principles of monotonicity, out-of-sample likelihood, model fit, and parsimony., Results: We recruited 1000 respondents with demographic characteristics that approximate the general population such as 49.6% Female, 82% Roman Catholic, 40% in urban areas, and 55% finished high school. None of the 20-parameter models demonstrated monotonicity (logical worsening of coefficients with increasing severity). From the 8-parameter models, the homoscedastic TTO-only model exhibited the best fit. From this model, mobility and pain/ discomfort had the highest effect on utilities., Conclusion: The selected model for representing the Philippine general population preferences for EQ-5D-5L health states was an 8-parameter homoscedastic TTO-only model. Objectives: Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a life-threatening complication of type 1 diabetes (T1D). The aim of this study is to analyze the incidence, clinical characteristics, management and outcome of children presenting with DKA in new-onset T1D from 2008 to 2018 in Hong Kong., Methods: Data was extracted from the Hong Kong Childhood Diabetes Registry. All subjects less than 18 years with newly diagnosed T1D from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2018 managed in the public hospitals were included. Information on demographics, laboratory parameters, DKA-related complications and management were analyzed., Results: In the study period, there were 556 children with newly diagnosed T1D in our registry and 43.3% presented with DKA. The crude incidence rate of new-onset T1D with DKA was 1.79 per 100,000 persons/year (CI: 1.56-2.04). Subjects presenting with DKA were younger (9.5 ± 4.5 vs. 10.5 ± 4.4, p=0.01) and had shorter duration of symptoms (4.2 ± 5.9 days vs. 10.6 ± 17.1 days, p<0.01). Regarding management, up to 12.4% were given insulin boluses and 82.6% were started on insulin infusion 1 h after fluid resuscitation. The rate of cerebral edema was 0.8% and there was no mortality., Conclusions: Younger age and shorter duration of symptoms were associated with DKA in new-onset T1D. Despite availability of international guidelines, there was inconsistency in acute DKA management. The use of probiotics to improve health via the modulation of gut microbiota has gained wide attention. The growing volume of investigations of probiotic microorganisms and commercialized probiotic products has created the need for a database to organize the health-promoting functions driven by probiotics reported in academic articles, clinical trials and patents. We constructed ProBioQuest to collect up-to-date literature related to probiotics from PubMed.gov, ClinicalTrials.gov and PatentsView. More than 2.8 million articles have been collected. Automated information technology-assisted procedures enabled us to collect the data continuously, providing the most up-to-date information. Statistical functions and semantic analyses are provided on the website as an advanced search engine, which contributes to the semantic tool of this database for information search and analyses. The semantic analytical output provides categorized search results and functions to enhance further analysis. A keyword bank is included which can display multiple tables of contents. Users can select keywords from different displayed categories to achieve easily filtered searches. Additional information on the searched items can be browsed via the link-out function. ProBioQuest is not only useful to scientists and health professionals but also to dietary supplement manufacturers and the general public. In this paper, the method we used to build this database-web system is described. Applications of ProBioQuest for several literature-based analyses of probiotics are included as examples of the various uses of this search engine. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the Philippines. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination provides protection from the most common cancer-causing HPV types. This analysis used a proportionate outcomes model to estimate the potential cost-effectiveness of four different HPV vaccine products-Cervarix™, Cecolin®, GARDASIL®, and GARDASIL®9-for routine HPV vaccination of 10 cohorts of 9-year-old girls from the government and societal perspectives. Model parameters included cervical cancer burden, healthcare and program costs, vaccine efficacy with and without potential cross-protection, and vaccination coverage. Univariate and probabilistic sensitivity analyses evaluated the impact of uncertainty on model results. Compared to no vaccination, HPV programs with Cecolin®, Cervarix™, and GARDASIL® are projected to be cost-effective at US$1,210, US$1,300, and US$2,043 per DALY averted, respectively, from the government perspective, and at US$173, US$263, and US$1,006 per DALY averted, respectively, from the societal perspective when cross-protection was considered. When direct comparisons were made across vaccines, GARDASIL® was dominated by Cervarix™ and Cecolin®. In a scenario where cross-protection was not considered, results were similar except that Cervarix™ and GARDASIL® were both dominated by Cecolin®. Accurate positioning of the total ankle arthroplasty implant components with the absence of any hindfoot deformity does not preclude the development of bony impingement. In cases of ankle stiffness after total ankle arthroplasty, the usual limitation is in dorsiflexion. If triceps surae contracture is excluded or persistent restriction remains in ankle dorsiflexion after gastrocnemius recession or tendo-Achilles lengthening, posterior ankle capsulectomy, debridement of posterior ankle gutter, and release of the deep posterior deltoid ligament and the posterior talofibular ligament are indicated. Purpose: To determine the efficacy of physical therapy interventions on quality of life (QoL) and pain severity in post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS)., Methods: Multiple databases were searched from database inception to October 2020. Searches were limited to human studies published in either English or Chinese in peer-reviewed journals with full text available for randomized controlled trials conducted on females. Trials comparing the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions against control conditions on QoL and pain were included., Results: Eighteen trials were included in the review. The pooled analysis of the four exercise trials revealed a significant effect of the intervention on general [standardized mean difference [SMD]: 0.87 (95%CI: 0.36, 1.37); p = 0.001], physical [SMD: 0.34 (95%CI: 0.01, 0.66); p = 0.044], and mental health components [SMD: 0.27 (95%CI: 0.03, 0.51); p = 0.027] of QoL compared with the control condition. Meta-analyses of six exercise trials, two myofascial release trials, and two acupuncture trials revealed a significant improvement in pain severity in the treatment group than in the control group. However, meta-analyses of two studies revealed a non-significant effect of compression therapy compared to control on pain severity., Conclusion: Our meta-analyses found that exercise is beneficial for improving the QoL and pain severity of women with PMPS. Future studies are needed to determine the optimal parameters for exercise interventions designed to improve QoL and pain severity in women with PMPS. The effect of acupuncture, myofascial release, and compression therapy remains inconclusive, and future research is required to validate the effect of these interventions on PMPS., (© 2022. Background: The emergence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) variants posed considerable threats to the global public health. We reviewed the epidemiology of variant cases and control measures implemented in Hong Kong., Methods: The epidemiological characteristics and the temporal trend of the COVID-19 variant cases and local clusters in Hong Kong, and the corresponding public health control measures were reviewed., Results: Between December 2020 and June 2021, 393 variant cases were reported, including 153, 59 and 79 cases of Alpha, Beta and Delta variants with no Gamma variant. The vast majority (378, 96.2%) were imported cases. Since early June 2021, Delta variant had taken over Alpha as the dominant strain. Public health control measures, including risk-stratified quarantine and testing requirements for inbound travellers, banning of flights from extremely high-risk areas, enhanced contact tracing and quarantine, were implemented. Among the 3 clusters involving local transmissions, 2 were linked to imported cases while the source of the remaining one was unknown., Discussion: Amid the global surges of COVID-19 variants, Hong Kong had continued to limit and prevent the occurrence of community-wide outbreak. By vaccinating SARS-CoV-2 naïve individuals who have already received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, we aimed to investigate whether a heterologous prime-boost strategy, using vaccines of different platforms as the booster dose, can enhance the immune response against SARS-CoV-2 virus variants. Participants were assigned into four groups, each receiving different combination of vaccinations: two doses of BNT162b2 followed by one dose of BNT162b2 booster (B-B-B); Combination of BNT162b2 (first dose) and CoronaVac (second dose) followed by one dose of BNT162b2 booster (B-C-B); two doses of CoronaVac followed by one dose of CoronaVac booster (C-C-C); two doses of CoronaVac followed by one dose of BNT162b2 booster (C-C-B). The neutralizing antibody in sera against the virus was determined with live virus microneutralization assay (vMN). The B-B-B group and C-C-B group demonstrated significantly higher immunogenicity against SARS-CoV-2 Wild type (WT), Beta variant (BV) and Delta variant (DV). In addition, the B-B-B group and C-C-B group showed reduced but existing protection against Omicron variant (OV). Moreover, A persistent rise in vMN titre against OV was observed 3 days after booster dose. Regarding safety, a heterologous prime-boost vaccine strategy is well tolerated. In this study, it was demonstrated that using vaccines of different platforms as booster dose can enhance protection against SARS-CoV-2 variants, offering potent neutralizing activity against wild-type virus (WT), Beta variant (BV), Delta variant (DV) and some protection against the Omicron variant (OV). In addition, a booster mRNA vaccine results in a more potent immune response than inactivated vaccine regardless of which platform was used for prime doses.
