Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) for traction applications have attracted significant attention due to their advantages of high torque and power density as well as a wide operating range. However, these motors suffer from high electromagnetic vibration noise due to their complex structure and structural rigidity. The main sources of this electromagnetic vibration noise are cogging torque, torque ripple, and radial force. To predict electromagnetic vibration noise, finite element analysis (FEA) with flux density analysis of the air gap is essential. This approach allows for the calculation of radial force that is the source of the vibration and enables the prediction of vibration in advance. The data obtained from these analyses provide important guidance for reducing vibration and noise in the design of electric motors. In this paper, the cogging torque and vibration at rated and maximum operating speed are analyzed, and an optimal cogging torque and vibration reduction model, with rotor taper and two-step skew structure, is proposed using the response surface method (RSM) to minimize them. The validity of the proposed model is demonstrated through formulations and FEA based entirely on numerical analysis and results. This study is expected to contribute to the design of more efficient and quieter electric motors by providing a solution to the electromagnetic vibration noise problem generated by IPMSM for traction applications with complex structures.

Background: Active compounds from plants and herbs are increasingly incorporated into modern medical systems to address cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Foeniculum vulgare Mill., commonly known as fennel, is an aromatic medicinal plant and culinary herb that is popular worldwide. Methods: Protective effects against cellular damage were assessed in the H9C2 cardiomyocyte hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) experimental model. The identities of phytochemicals in FVSE were determined by GC-MS analysis. The phytochemical’s potential for nutrients and pharmacokinetic properties was assessed by ADMET analysis. Results: GC-MS analysis of the ethanol extracts of F. vulgare identified 41 bioactive compounds, with four prominent ones: anethole, 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-propanone, ethoxydimethylphenylsilane, and para-anisaldehyde diethyl acetal. Among these, anethole stands out due to its potential for nutrients and pharmacokinetic properties assessed by ADMET analysis, such as bioavailability, lipophilicity, flexibility, and compliance with Lipinski’s Rule of Five. In the H/R injury model of H9C2 heart myoblast cells, FVSE and anethole suppressed H/R-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, DNA double-strand break damage, nuclear condensation, and the dissipation of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm). Conclusions: These findings highlight the therapeutic potential of FVSE and its prominent component, anethole, in the treatment of CVDs, particularly those associated with hypoxia-induced damage.

Background:Citrus reticulata Blanco essential oil (CBEO) has attracted increasing attention as a potential treatment for depression and anxiety in recent years. However, there is limited evidence regarding the active compounds responsible for its therapeutic effects. In addition, substantial amounts of CBEO and prolonged therapy are often required. This study aims to investigate the rapid acting antidepressant and anxiolytic effects of CBEO, identify the underlying composition as well as optimize its dosage and duration.Methods:CBEO composition was determined using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), and the corresponding targets were obtained from the SwissTargetPrediction database. Depression-related targets were collected from DisGeNET, GeneCards, Therapeutic Target Database, and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man. Subsequently, the overlap between CBEO and depression targets was utilized to build a network diagram depicting the relationship between the active ingredients and targets using Cytoscape software. The STRING database facilitated the construction of a protein–protein interaction network, and the Ma’ayan Laboratory Enrichment tool was employed for Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and Wiki pathway analyses. Molecular docking was conducted using AutoDock Vina and Discovery Studio Visualizer. Topological analysis predicted the main antidepressant active ingredients in CBEO. A mixture of these compounds was prepared based on their relative GC–MS ratios. Tail suspension test, elevated plus maze, corticosterone-induced PC12 cells, and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced BV2 cells were used to validate the antidepressant and anxiolytic potential of CBEO and CBEO’s main bioactive constituents.Results:CBEO contains 18 components that target 121 proteins. We identified 595 targets associated with depression; among them, 29 targets were located between essential oils and depression. Topological results revealed that linalool, p-cymene, α-terpinene, terpinen-4-ol, and α-terpineol were the major active compounds of CBEO in the management of depression. GO analysis identified G protein-coupled opioid receptor activity, phospholipase C-activating G protein-coupled receptor, and neuron projections that were mostly related to molecular functions, cellular components, and biological processes. Neuroactive ligand-receptor interactions, chemical carcinogenesis, and calcium signaling pathways were the major pathways identified in KEGG analysis. Molecular docking showed that the main bioactive ingredients of CBEO had favorable binding affinities for Protein-Protein Interaction’s hub proteins, including OPRM1, PTGS2, ESR1, SLC6A4, DRD2, and NR3C1. These five compounds were then mixed at 0.8:5:0.6:2:1 (w/w) ratio to form a CBEO antidepressant active compound mixture. An acute intranasal treatment of CBEO (25 mg/kg) only demonstrated an antidepressant effect, whereas the main bioactive compounds combination (12.5 mg/kg) illustrated both antidepressant and anxiolytic effects in mice. Linalool, p-cymene, and terpinene-4-ol exhibited neuroprotective and anti-neuroinflammation in the in vitro study, while these effects were not observed for α-terpinene and α-terpineol.Conclusion:Linalool, p-cymene, α-terpinene, terpinen-4-ol, and α-terpineol cymene might be mainly contributing to CBEO’s antidepressant effect by regulating neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, neuron projection, and receptor signaling pathway. A mixture of these compounds showed rapid antidepressant potential via intranasal administration, which was comparable to that of CBEO. The mixture also exhibited an anxiolytic effect while not seen in CBEO.

Papaya contains high amounts of vitamins A, C, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin, ascorbic acid, potassium, and carotenoids. It is confirmed by several studies that all food waste parts such as the fruit peels, seeds, and leaves of papaya are potential sources of phenolic compounds, particularly in the peel. Considering the presence of numerous bioactive compounds in papaya fruit peels, the current study reports a rapid, cheap, and environmentally friendly method for the production of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) employing food biowaste (vegetable papaya peel extract (VPPE)) and investigated its antioxidant, antidiabetic, tyrosinase inhibition, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and photocatalytic degradation potentials. The phytochemical analysis gave positive results for tannins, saponins, steroids, cardiac steroidal glycoside, protein, and carbohydrates. The manufactured VPPE-AuNPs were studied by UV–Vis scan (with surface plasmon resonance of 552 nm), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) (with average crystallite size of 44.41 nm as per the Scherrer equation), scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), particle size, zeta potential, etc. The mean dimension of the manufactured VPPE-AuNPs is 112.2 d.nm (PDI—0.149) with a −26.1 mV zeta potential. The VPPE-AuNPs displayed a significant antioxidant effect (93.24% DPPH scavenging and 74.23% SOD inhibition at 100 µg/mL); moderate tyrosinase effect (with 30.76%); and substantial α-glucosidase (95.63%) and α-amylase effect (50.66%) at 100 µg/mL. Additionally, it was found to be very proficient in the removal of harmful methyl orange and methylene blue dyes with degradation of 34.70% at 3 h and 24.39% at 5 h, respectively. Taken altogether, the VPPE-AuNPs have been proven to possess multiple biopotential activities, which can be explored by the food, cosmetics, and biomedical industries.

By applying the halbach arrangement, an integrated magnetic bearing structure can be designed that secures the space inside the rotor core as a space for inserting the magnetic bearing. In this case, since the bearing is present inside the rotor, the bearing magnetic flux for controlling the rotor position is affected by the magnetic field of the permanent magnet and the rotating magnetic field of the phase winding of the stator. At this time, in a specific combination of the number of pole slots, the arrangement of the windings of the stator facing the bearing teeth appears asymmetrically for each bearing phase. In this paper, for more linear control, the formula for the number of stator pole slots and the number of bearing teeth to eliminate structurally generated force asymmetry was presented, and the formula was verified by comparative analysis of the force waveform for each axis. The validity of the proposed model was verified using the finite element method.

This paper proposes a design method to reduce cogging torque and torque ripple in the concentrated winding of IPMSMs (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) used in motors for the semiconductor ETCH process. IPMSMs can utilize reluctance torque through the difference in inductance between the d axis and q axis, but they are at a disadvantage in terms of reducing cogging torque while tapering the rotor and stator to reduce torque ripple. In addition, the existing single tapering can push the permanent magnets into the rotor. If the rotor’s permanent magnets are embedded, the magnetic reluctance will increase, and the overall performance of the motor will decrease. However, an optimum design method was derived in which the magnets do not move during rotor tapering. This geometric design is an optimum design method that reduces cogging torque and torque ripple. This paper compares and analyzes four models, the concentrated winding model, distributed winding model, conventional tapering model, and separated tapering model, using 2D and 3D finite element analysis (FEA).

Interior permanent magnet synchronous motors have the advantage of being applicable to various fields owing to their high torque density and wide operating range but have the disadvantage of large electromagnetic vibrations. To calculate the electromagnetic vibration, analysis of the magnetic flux density of the air gap using the finite element method (FEM) is essential. This process requires a significant amount of time because of the use of many analysis models. The radial force, which is the source of vibration, is expressed as the square of the air gap magnetic flux density, the vibration can be predicted in advance by calculating the waveform of the air gap magnetic flux density using a formula. In this paper, a new air gap relative permeance formula is proposed when an offset is applied to the outer diameter of the rotor to reduce electromagnetic vibration. By calculating the waveform of the air gap magnetic flux density using the proposed air gap relative permeance formula, a model with a minimum total harmonic distortion is selected. The validity of the formula was confirmed by comparing the FEM result with the waveform of the air gap magnetic flux density calculated using the proposed formula. The proposed model minimized the vibration and was confirmed using FEM. Using the proposed formula, vibration can be easily and quickly predicted in analytic way. The prototype of the final model was developed and compared using FEM, and the validity of the analysis result was confirmed.

Generators are a key technological element of wind power generation systems. The use of synchronous generators that employ heavy rare-earth permanent magnets is increasing owing to the demand for higher efficiencies. However, these magnets are expensive and undergo an unbalanced supply and demand. Therefore, spoke-type structures have been developed and used in various fields to compensate for the deficient performance when using a ferrite magnet, which is inexpensive and provides a stable supply and demand. However, permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) with adopted spoke-type structures and an output power of 1 kW or higher have not been studied and practically applied sufficiently. Additionally, new designs must consider differences between the target specifications of a generator and wind turbine. In this study, we designed and analyzed the characteristics of an alternative bridge spoke-type PMSG modeling a generator for a 3-kW class wind turbine. We analyzed the performance of the existing spoke-type generator and proposed an alternative bridge spoke shape with an improved performance by removing the leakage flux of the bridge. The performance of the existing spoke model was compared using the finite element method (FEM), and the performance of the proposed model was verified more accurately by performing a three-dimensional (3D) analysis considering the 3D effect. Additionally, we analyzed the voltage fluctuation rate according to the number of stator slots and overhang structure and designed a final model. Considering the characteristics of the ferrite magnet used in the spoke-type design, the irreversible demagnetization characteristics of the conventional and final models were compared using simulations, followed by a comparison between the stiffness characteristics of the two models. Finally, a prototype was manufactured, and the feasibility of the final design was verified using the performance tests.

Depression is a serious psychiatric disorder with high prevalence, and the delayed onset of antidepressant effects remains a limitation in the treatment of depression. This study aimed to screen essential oils that have the potential for rapid-acting antidepressant development. PC12 and BV2 cells were used to identify essential oils with neuroprotective effects at doses of 0.1 and 1 µg/mL. The resulting candidates were treated intranasally (25 mg/kg) to ICR mice, followed by a tail suspension test (TST) and an elevated plus maze (EPM) after 30 min. In each effective essential oil, five main compounds were computationally analyzed, targeting glutamate receptor subunits. As a result, 19 essential oils significantly abolished corticosterone (CORT)-induced cell death and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) leakage, and 13 reduced lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin 6 (IL-6). From in vivo experiments, six essential oils decreased the immobility time of mice in the TST, in which Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. and Myristica fragrans Houtt. also increased time and entries into the open arms of the EPM. Four compounds including atractylon, α-curcumene, α-farnesene, and selina-4(14),7(11)-dien-8-one had an affinity toward GluN1, GluN2B, and Glu2A receptor subunits surpassed that of the reference compound ketamine. Overall, Atractylodes lancea (Thunb.) DC and Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat essential oils are worthy of further research for fast-acting antidepressants through interactions with glutamate receptors, and their main compounds (atractylon, α-curcumene, α-farnesene, and selina-4(14),7(11)-dien-8-one) are predicted to underlie the fast-acting effect.

When a magnetic bearing is used in the design of a high-speed motor, no friction and wear occur because of the principle of magnetic levitation; however, the size of the entire system increases. An integrated magnetic bearing motor is a motor with a magnetic bearing inserted inside the rotor that can minimize the increase in the size of the entire system. In this study, a method to reduce the bearing force ripple and torque ripple of an integrated magnetic bearing motor through parameters for a Halbach array and permanent magnet tapering is proposed. When designing an integrated magnetic bearing motor, because the magnetic bearing is located inside the rotor, the influence of the magnetic flux of the rotor and stator on the magnetic flux of the magnetic bearing should be minimized. By combining the magnetic fluxes of the magnetic bearing, rotor, and stator at the rotor back yoke, magnetic saturation occurs, and the performance of the bearing force and torque ripples decreases. The bearing force and torque according to the Halbach array and permanent magnet tapering were analyzed using finite element analysis. The average bearing force and torque were maximized, and the ripple was minimized through the rotor parameters. Thus, the validity of the main design variables selected to improve the output characteristics was confirmed.

Atractylodes lancea (Thunb.) DC. (AL) has been indicated in traditional prescriptions for the treatment of depression. However, the mechanism of action of AL in the treatment of depression is still unclear. This study aimed to investigate the antidepressant potential of AL using network pharmacology, molecular docking, and animal experiments. The active components of AL were retrieved from the traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform (TCMSP), and the depression-related targets were screened through the DisGeNET database. Overlapping targets of AL and depression were selected and analyzed. Ten active compounds of AL showed anti-depressant potential, including stigmasterol, 3β-acetoxyatractylone, wogonin, β-sitosterol, selina-4(14),7(11)-dien-8-one, atractylenolide I, atractylenolide II, atractylenolide III, patchoulene, and cyperene. These compounds target 28 potential antidepressant genes/proteins. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis revealed that the potential targets might directly influence neural cells and regulate neuroinflammation and neurotransmitter-related processes. The potential Kyoto Encyclopedia Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways for the antidepressant effects of AL include neuroactive ligand–receptor interactions, calcium signaling pathways, dopaminergic synapse, interleukin (IL)-17 signaling pathways, and the pathways of neurodegeneration. IL-6, nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS), solute carrier family 6 member 4 (SLC6A4), estrogen receptor (ESR1), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) were the most important proteins in the protein–protein interaction network and these proteins showed high binding affinities with the corresponding AL compounds. AL showed an antidepressant effect in mice by decreasing immobility time in the tail suspension test and increasing the total contact number in the social interaction test. This study demonstrated the antidepressant potential of AL, which provides evidence for pursuing further studies to develop a novel antidepressant.

Aromatherapy is one of the most common safer alternative treatments for psychiatric disorders with fewer side effects than conventional drugs. Here, we investigated the effects of cinnamon essential oil (CIEO) inhalation on mouse behaviors by performing different behavioral tests. CIEO inhalation showed anxiolytic effects in the elevated plus maze test, as inferred from increased time spent in open arms and decreased time spent in closed arms. Moreover, the CIEO treatment enhanced social behavior by increasing the total contact number, time spent in the center, distance traveled in the center, and total distance in the social interaction test. However, CIEO inhalation did not have any effect on performance in the open field test, tail suspension test, forced swimming test, and Y maze tests. The microarray analysis indicated that the CIEO treatment downregulated 17 genes and upregulated 15 genes in the hippocampus. Among them, Dcc, Egr2, and Fos are the most crucial genes that are involved in anxiety-related biological processes and pathways, including the regulation of neuronal death and neuroinflammation. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis revealed that cinnamaldehyde is the main component of CIEO. Cinnamaldehyde recovered MK-801-induced anxiety-related changes in the electroencephalogram power spectrum in zebrafish. Taken together, our findings suggest that CIEO and its main component cinnamaldehyde have an anxiolytic effect through the regulation of the expression of genes related to neuroinflammatory response and neuronal death.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that can be associated with psychiatric disorders. Picrasma quassioides (D.Don) Benn (Gomokpi, GMP), a traditional medicinal herb, has been used to treat skin diseases, including AD. The current study examined the effects of an ethanolic extract of GMP on 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced AD mice. The severity of skin symptoms and behavioral changes in AD mice were evaluated. GMP alleviated the AD-like skin inflammation and hyperlocomotion activity in DNCB-treated BALB/c mice. The effects of GMP behavioral abnormalities might occur by inhibiting TNF-α production in the PFC. GMP suppressed the production of TARC (Th2 chemokine) in TI-stimulated HaCaT keratinocytes. Moreover, GMP also exerted immunosuppressive effects by reducing TNF-α production in LPS-stimulated Raw264.7 macrophages, IL-17 expression in PI-stimulated EL4 cells, and VEGF secretion in SP-stimulated HMC-1 cells. These findings suggest that GMP could be useful for treating AD by modulating inflammatory responses and comorbid behavioral changes.

Psoriasis is a common inflammatory skin disorder, which can be associated with psychological disorders, such as anxiety and depression. This study investigated the efficacy and the mechanism of action of a natural compound coptisine using imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis mice. Coptisine reduced the severity of psoriasis-like skin lesions, decreased epidermal hyperplasia and the levels of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-17, and IL-22. Furthermore, coptisine improved IMQ-induced anxiety in mice by increasing the number of entries and time in open arms in the elevated plus maze (EPM) test. Coptisine also lowered the levels of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β in the prefrontal cortex of psoriasis mice. HaCaT keratinocytes and BV2 microglial cells were used to investigate the effects of coptisine in vitro. In M5-treated HaCaT cells, coptisine decreased the production of IL-6, MIP-3α/CCL20, IP-10/CXCL10, and ICAM-1 and suppressed the NF-κB signaling pathway. In LPS-stimulated BV2 cells, coptisine reduced the secretion of TNF-α and IL-1β. These findings suggest that coptisine might be a potential candidate for psoriasis treatment by improving both disease severity and psychological comorbidities.

Indigo naturalis, which is extracted from the leaves and branches of Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees) Bremek, has traditionally been used to treat psoriasis. The current study aimed to examine a new mechanism of the components of indigo naturalis, including indirubin, indigo, and tryptanthrin. The anti-psoriatic effects were assessed by the proliferation biomarkers (Ki67, K16), cell cycle progression, ROS production, and interleukin profiling (ICAM-1, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8) in IL-22-treated HaCaT cells. Among the components, indirubin significantly decreased intracellular ROS production and lowered the production of ICAM-1, TNF-α, and IL-6 in IL-22-treated HaCaT cells. Indirubin, indigo, and tryptanthrin could decrease the proportion of Ki67-positive cells, but only indirubin decreased the proportion of cells entering the S phase and suppressed the expression of cyclin D1 and cyclin E1 in IL-22-treated HaCaT cells. Indirubin significantly suppressed the phosphorylation of STAT3 and ERK. In vivo, IL-22 was intradermally injected into mouse ears for six days and topically treated with 0.1% or 1% indirubin. In the IL-22-injected mice, treatment with indirubin inhibited epidermal hyperplasia. Immunohistochemistry and western blot analysis demonstrated the downregulation of K16 expression in psoriatic lesions. These results suggest that indirubin, which is a major component of indigo naturalis, may have therapeutic potential in an IL-22-induced psoriasis model.

The delayed and impaired wound healing caused by dexamethasone (DEX) is commonly reported. Puerarin, the major isoflavone found in Pueraria montana var. lobata (Willd.) Sanjappa & Pradeep promoted the wound healing process in diabetic rats. However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of puerarin on DEX-impaired wound healing have not been investigated. This study examined the potential uses of puerarin in upregulating keratinocyte proliferation and migration in dexamethasone (DEX)-suppressed wound healing model. The effects of puerarin on wound healing in vivo were investigated by taking full-thickness 5 mm punch biopsies from the dorsal skin of BALB/c mice and then treating them topically with 0.1% DEX. For the in vitro study, DEX-treated HaCaT cells were used to examine the effects of puerarin on DEX-induced keratinocyte proliferation and migration and the mechanisms of its action. Puerarin, when applied topically, accelerated the wound closure rate, increased the density of the capillaries, and upregulated the level of collagen fibers and TGF-β in the wound sites compared to the DEX-treated mice. Puerarin promoted the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes by activating the ERK and Akt signaling pathways in DEX-treated HaCaT cells. In conclusion, puerarin could be effective in reversing delayed and disrupted wound healing associated with DEX treatments.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the Coptis chinensis, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, and fermented Glycine max (3Hb) extract on lipid barrier recovery and the alleviation of atopic dermatitis (AD). The 3Hb extract was administered to lipid barrier-eliminated mice (3HbT) for 5 days. Subsequently, the effect of the 3Hb extract on general skin features and the regulation of filaggrin, inflammatory response, Th2 differentiation, and the skin micro-environment for defense, was evaluated. In the 3HbT, filaggrin was effectively recovered. The clinical skin score was significantly lower in the 3HbT compared with control groups. In addition, significant decreases in pH and TEWL as well as in the levels of kallikrein 7, PAR-2, TSLP, IL-4, Fc ε receptor, and phosphate-NF-κB p65 were observed in the 3HbT, compared with the other control groups. Further, compared with control groups, the 3HbT showed a significant increase in those of claudin, cathelicidin, TLR, and NHE-1. Our results indicated that the 3Hb extract effectively recovered filaggrin. Through the recovery of filaggrin, inflammation and the Th2 differentiation process can be regulated, and microenvironments for defense can be recovered. Therefore, we confirmed the potential of the 3Hb extract for use in the proactive therapy of AD.

In an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor, an adhesive such as bond is generally injected into the magnet tolerance to prevent vibration of the permanent magnet within the insertion space. In this case, a disadvantage is that the magnet tolerance does not contribute to the performance. In this paper, ferrofluid is inserted to improve the torque density, utilizing the magnet tolerance. When inserting ferrofluid into the magnet tolerance, it is important to fix the magnet because conventional adhesives are not used, and it is important that the ferrofluid does not act as a leakage path within the insertion space. In this study, a new rotor configuration using a plastic barrier that satisfies these considerations was introduced. The analysis was conducted through finite element analysis (FEA), and this technique was verified by comparing the simulation results and the experimental results through a dynamo test. It was confirmed that the no-load back electromotive force in the final model increased through ferrofluid injection.

Background: Oenothera biennis (evening primrose) produces bioactive substances with a diverse range of pharmacological functions. However, it is currently unknown whether extract prepared from the aerial parts of O. biennis (APOB) can protect the skin against oxidative stress. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the protective effects of APOB against oxidative stress-induced damage in human skin keratinocytes (HaCaT) and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Methods: We pretreated HaCaT cells with various concentrations of APOB or the antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine before applying H2O2. We then compared the cell viability, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and DNA and mitochondrial damage between pretreated and untreated control cells using a range of assays, flow cytometry, and Western blot analysis and also examined the reducing power and DPPH free radical scavenging activity of APOB. Results: APOB pretreatment significantly increased cell viability, effectively attenuated H2O2-induced comet tail formation, and inhibited H2O2-induced phosphorylation of the histone γH2AX, as well as the number of apoptotic bodies and Annexin V-positive cells. APOB was found to have high reducing power and DPPH radical scavenging activity and also exhibited scavenging activity against intracellular ROS accumulation and restored the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential caused by H2O2. APOB pretreatment almost totally reversed the enhanced cleavage of caspase-3, the degradation of poly (ADP-ribose)-polymerase (PARP), DNA fragmentation that usually occurs in the presence of H2O2, and increased the levels of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), a potent antioxidant enzyme that is associated with the induction of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). Conclusions: APOB can protect HaCaT cells from H2O2-induced DNA damage and cell death by blocking cellular damage related to oxidative stress via a mechanism that affects ROS elimination and by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.

In this paper the wave run-up around a circular column in regular waves is numerically calculated to investigate the applicability of the Modified Marker-Density (MMD) method to prediction of wave run-up around an offshore platform. The MMD method is one of the methods to define the highly nonlinear free surface. The governing equations are the Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equation which are computed in Cartesian grid system. To validate incident waves generated by numerical simulation, those are compared with the solutions of the Stokes 5th order wave theory. The wave run-up simulations are performed varying the steepness and period of incident waves as referred experimental data. The numerical results are compared to the experimental data and the results show good agreements.

While numerous studies have highlighted the potential benefits of programming environment (PE) use for children's learning, the boundary conditions of children's PE acceptance within the programming education context are less clear. This study fills this gap in the literature by investigating the critical determinants of children's PE use intention and extending the boundary conditions to programming competition, computational thinking, and programming modality. A total of 1527 primary students participated in this study. Using structural equation modelling (SEM) analyses, the measurement model was validated, and the configural, metric and scalar invariance of the measurement model was established. The structural model was also confirmed, with most of the hypothesized relationships were supported. Multigroup SEM analyses were conducted to compare structural path coefficient differences across different personal moderators (i.e., gender, grade, and experience), environmental moderators (i.e., both parents' education level), and PE use-relevant moderators (i.e., programming competition, computational thinking, and programming modality). The results revealed significant path differences in six group comparisons, with most of the path differences associated with perceived self-efficacy and perceived ease of use. It should be noted that no significant path differences were identified for the gender and programming competition group comparisons. This work serves as a pioneer study of a comprehensive understanding of the determinants and moderators of children's PE use intention. The findings offer important theoretical implications through accommodating essential constructs within a PE acceptance framework and recommending effective strategies to improve primary students' PE acceptance for programming learning in primary education.
