Characterizing and predicting the response of terrestrial ecosystems to global change is part of the fundamental challenges of contemporary ecology and ecological conservation. The assessment of climate change impact on forest ecosystems has rarely used a multi-index fusion method for quantitative evaluation. We used forest distribution, net primary productivity, and vegetation coverage to establish an assessment model of the impact of climate change on forest ecosystems. We analyzed the change characteristics of these indicators in the Heilongjiang Province of China. Our results indicate the following: (1) from 2001 to 2019, the forest area in Heilongjiang Province ranged from 234,000 to 246,000 km2. The forest net primary productivity (NPP) ranged from 4.40 to 5.55 MgC·ha-1·yr-1, and the vegetation coverage ranged from 42.42% to 67.64%. The forest NPP and the vegetation coverage showed a significant upward trend. (2) The values of forest ecological roles were significantly positively correlated with the climatic potential. (3) The contribution rate of climate change to forest ecosystem change was negatively correlated with forest coverage, which varied from 4.79% to 18.07% in different regions (cities) of the province. Study Implications: Assessing the influence of climate on forest ecosystems comprehensively and accurately before the government prepares ecological measures is necessary. However, the responses of vegetation coverage and net primary productivity to climate change may not be consistent, so climate studies that consider forest ecosystem change trends by a single indicator may have confounding results. We established a model for evaluating the impact of climate change on forest ecosystems to solve this problem. This knowledge may provide a reference for the response, adaptation, and vulnerability assessment of forest ecosystems to climate change.

This study sought to investigate the surgical workflow and practical effects of infection prevention and control in specialist pediatric hospitals during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic to provide a foundation for ensuring the safety of children and medical staff.TheThe operation process and prevention and control measures were effectively implemented. During the epidemic, a total of 219 surgeries which patients' COVID-19 nucleic test result are not out were completed. No medical staff or nosocomial infection occurred during the surgeries.As a special group, children are susceptible to COVID-19, and should receive special attention. As the only hospital designated to treat children with COVID-19 in Hubei Province, our hospital effectively implemented the infection prevention and control measures in surgery according to the characteristics of children. These measures ensured the safety of the surgeries and reduced the risk of infection in children and medical staff.

Potato tubers are susceptible to wounding during post-harvest processes, leading to quality decline, perishability and large economic losses. In this study, the potato cultivar, ‘Longshu No.7’, was foliar-sprayed with 3% chitosan (w/v) three times during the pre-harvest period after flowering to evaluate the effect of foliar spraying with chitosan on suberization processing at wounds of harvested potato tubers. Our results demonstrate that foliar-sprayed with chitosan significantly reduced wound-induced fresh weight loss and dry rot disease index by 37.34% and 41.60% on the 28 day after wounding, respectively. Foliar-sprayed with chitosan accelerated the deposition of suberin polyphenolics and lignin at the wound sites of potato tubers with the formation of thicker cell layers. This occurred with increased localized activities of key enzymes in the suberin polyphenolics and lignin pathways, including phenylalanine ammonia lyase, 4-coumaryl-coenzyme A ligase, cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase and peroxidase (33.90–64.32%), as well as the contents of cinnamic acid, sinapic acid, flavonoids, lignins and total phenolics (19.70–23.46%) at wound sites of potato tubers on the 7 day after wounding. Our results indicated that foliar application of chitosan accelerated wound-induced suberization of potato tubers and could mitigate post-harvest product damages.

Traditional Chinese medicine classifies psoriasis (Ps) according to clinical manifestations, and its different clinical manifestations imply the pathogenesis and material evolution basis of Ps, especially biomarkers that are meaningful to identification of Ps, treatment response, and elucidation of the pathogenesis of the disease. This study aims to screen differential metabolites in plasma of psoriasis vulgaris (PV) of blood heat syndrome based on a widely targeted metabolomic technique and to analyze syndrome metabolic markers and metabolic pathways. Forty-five PV patients were recruited, including 21 cases of the blood heat syndrome group (BH-PPG), 24 cases of the non-blood-heat syndrome group (NBH-PPG), and 30 healthy cases of the normal control group (NPG). The UPLC-MS/MS detection platform, a self-developed database, and multivariate statistical analysis were applied to investigate the plasma metabolic differences. The biomarkers related to blood heat syndrome were screened using the principal component analysis method. A total of 479 metabolites were detected in the three groups of plasma samples; 72 different metabolites were sorted out in the BH-PPG/NPG group, 82 in the NBH-PPG/NPG group, and 8 in the BH-PPG/NBH-PPG group. Differential metabolites mainly consist of metabolites of organic acids, amino acids, carbohydrates, and nucleotides. Multiple metabolites ginkgolic acid, pyrroloquinoline quinone, L-aspartic acid, and citramalic acid were expected to be the potential biomarkers of blood heat syndrome PV. The formation and evolution processes may be associated with disorders and regulation of metabolic pathways, ferroptosis, carbon metabolism, and purine metabolism.

Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is characterized by defects of multiple tissue-specific lysosome-related organelles (LROs), typically manifesting with oculocutaneous albinism or ocular albinism, bleeding tendency, and in some cases with pulmonary fibrosis, inflammatory bowel disease or immunodeficiency, neuropsychological disorders. Eleven HPS subtypes in humans and at least 15 subtypes in mice have been molecularly identified. Current understanding of the underlying mechanisms of HPS is focusing on the defective biogenesis of LROs. Compelling evidences have shown that HPS protein-associated complexes (HPACs) function in cargo transport, cargo recycling, and cargo removal to maintain LRO homeostasis. Further investigation on the molecular and cellular mechanism of LRO biogenesis and secretion will be helpful for better understanding of its pathogenesis and for the precise intervention of HPS.

Rational: A bioactive small molecule of precision medicine involves targeted therapies. Shikonin, a herbal extract, is an active small molecule that is traditionally used in wound healing for its anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the anti-inflammatory role of shikonin in skin burn wound healing and hair follicle regeneration and to identify molecular signaling pathways that promote the regeneration. Method: A secondary skin burn model of mice was established by conventional method. The burn wound was externally treated with shikonin ointment and excipient treated mice were used as controls. Skin samples were taken on the day 3 and 7 after drug treatment and the dosage was unified in the experiments. The wound healing process was observed by histopathological and immunofluorescence (IF) staining. The proliferation of hair follicle cells in wound skin was tracked by 5-Ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridne (EdU) staining. The inflammatory factors at the wound healing site were quantified by polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The PI3K/Akt, P65, Ki67 signaling proteins and Bax/BCL2 apoptosis proteins were studied by western blot analysis. The functionality of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway was tested using LY294002, an inhibitor of PI3K. Result: Shikonin treated mice group exhibited better and faster skin burn wound healing in comparison with the controls. The proliferation of new skin cells and hair follicle regeneration in the wound site of the shikonin treated group was more active. The recruitment of macrophages in shikonin treated group was inhibited inturn decreased the expression of inflammatory factors. However, LY294002 inhibited the shikonin-mediated PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and affected the wound healing process. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study strengthens the hypothesis that bioactive small molecule, shikonin, inhibits inflammation, promotes wound healing and has a significant protective effect on the deep hair follicles against burn skin injury by activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

Sodium vanadium phosphate [Na3V2(PO4)3] with high voltage platform, low cost and environment friendliness has been considered as one of the most promising candidates as cathodes for high-performance sodium-ion batteries. However, the sodium storage property of Na3V2(PO4)3 is limited because of its low electronic conductivity and poor kinetic performance. Herein, MoO42−-doped Na(3+2x)V2(PO4)(3-x)MoO4(x) [NVP-MoO4 (x), x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15] have been developed and prepared by a feasible solid-state reaction. The optimal NVP-MoO4 (0.10) delivers a high initial capacity of 108.9 mA h g−1 and presents an excellent capacity retention of 91.5% at 1 C after 150 cycles. In addition, the NVP-MoO4 (0.10) shows a good rate capability, delivering a relatively high capacity of 84.2 mA h g−1 at 50 C. The results of sodium storage measurement and density of states calculation indicate that MoO42− doping can significantly enhance the structural stability, promote the kinetics behavior and boost the electronic conductivity of the materials. In-situ XRD test reveals that the electrochemical reaction of the NVP-MoO4 (0.10) exhibits a highly reversible phase transition process. This work provides a new insight for the design of advanced cathodes for high-performance sodium-ion batteries by the strategy of unique anion doping.

Background Prone position ventilation is a widely used lung protection ventilation strategy. The strategy is more convenient to implement in children compared to adults. Due to the precise mechanism of improving oxygenation function, development of pediatric prone ventilation technology has been largely focused on children with acute respiratory distress syndrome. There is a paucity of high-quality studies investigating the effects of prone position ventilation after pediatric cardiac surgery. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of prone position ventilation in infants who develop postoperative acute lung injury after surgery for congenital heart disease. Methods A single-center, randomized controlled trial of pediatric patients with acute lung injury after surgery for congenital heart disease who will receive prone position ventilation or usual care (control group). A total of 68 children will be enrolled according to the inclusion criteria. The main outcome measures will be lung compliance and oxygenation index. The secondary outcomes will be duration of mechanical ventilation, length of stay in cardiac intensive care unit, reintubation rate, and complication rate. Discussion This study will investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of prone position ventilation techniques in children who develop postoperative acute lung injury after surgery for congenital heart disease. The results may help inform strategies to improve airway management after surgery for congenital heart disease. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04607993. Aim To explore whether self‐efficacy has any positive or negative mediating effects between family functioning and quality of life among elders with chronic diseases. Design A cross‐sectional study. Methods Questionnaires were collected from 516 community‐dwelling elderly individuals with chronic diseases using a convenience sampling method. The questionnaires included the Self‐efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease Six‐Item Scale, the Family Adaptation Partnership Growth Affection Resolve Index and the MOS 36‐Item Short Form Health Survey. Results Family functioning and self‐efficacy impacted the quality of life of community‐dwelling elderly individuals with chronic diseases. Family functioning was mediated by self‐efficacy and had an indirect impact on quality of life. The mediating effect accounted for 62.50% of the total effect.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of subcutaneous stimulation of the peripheral nerve on acute or subacute zoster occurring in trigeminal nerve branches, and to evaluate the preventive effect of prior temporary implant of a peripheral stimulation electrode in the acute or subacute phase of herpes zoster (HZ) (from 30 to 90 d after zoster onset) before postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) presents. METHODS AND MATERIALS A total of 26 patients' medical records were analyzed. All of patients had received temporary subcutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS). The clinical efficacy of treatment was evaluated on a visual analog scale (VAS), and dosages of pain medication were recorded before and at 1 to 6 months after the temporary stimulation. The rate of PHN was reevaluated at a 6 months follow-up. RESULTS There was a significant decrease in VAS values after PNS. Medication doses decreased significantly after TPNS. The rate of clinically meaningful PHN (VAS >3) dropped below 4%. DISCUSSION This study revealed that PNS is an effective treatment for trigeminal herpetic neuralgia following acute or subacute HZ. As a extend neuromodulation method, subcutaneous peripheral nerve-field stimulation might be a useful option to reduce the progression of neuropathic changes caused by persistent transmission of pain signals in the trigeminal nerve branches after the acute or subacute phase of HZ.

In this work, two electronic nose (E-nose) prototypes for lung cancer detection via breath analysis are built. The instrumental variation between them is a critical problem, as it impacts on the generalization performance of classification model. The conventional domain adaption (DA) methods are based on the assumption that the data quality of both devices is high enough. However, it is not true in our case because the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) biomarkers in breath are very low and the acquisition process of breath samples is prone to many confounding factors. As a countermeasure, a novel and effective two-step sparse unidirectional domain adaptation (SUDA) algorithm is proposed. In the first step, the data quality of each domain is improved, at the meantime, the distribution discrepancy between source and target domain is reduced by finding the common discriminative features via the sparse group lasso algorithm. In the second step, the distribution gap is further narrowed down by adopting the strategies of distribution alignment, local geometric characteristics preserving and label dependence constraint. Experimental results show that the proposed method is not only significantly effective for correcting instrumental variation in the two homemade lung-cancer-detection E-noses, but also demonstrates superior performance on a public E-nose instrumental variation dataset.

Cardiomyocyte-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a promising class of biomarkers that can advance the diagnosis of many kinds of cardiovascular diseases. Herein, we develop a new electrochemical method for the feasible detection of cardiomyocyte-derived EVs in biological fluids. The core design of the method is the fabrication of a peptide-anchored biomimetic interface consisting of a lipid bilayer and peptide probes. On the one hand, the lipid bilayer provides excellent antifouling ability to the electrode interface and facilitates the anchoring of peptide probes. On the other hand, the peptide probes equip the electrode interface with excellent binding capability and affinity to CD172a, a specific marker of cardiomyocyte-derived EVs, thus enabling the efficient and selective detection of target EVs. Background In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to the role of skin microcirculation in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. The vascular network of the skin is mainly distributed in the dermis and the subcutaneous fat layer join. The microvessels are composed of terminal arterioles, arteriovenous capillaries, and postcapillary venules. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis by promoting angiogenesis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between serum VEGF and psoriasis vulgaris. Methods Embase, CENTRAL, PubMed, China Biology Medicine Database, China National Knowledge Database, Wan Fang Database, and Chong Qing VIP Database will be searched to collect case-control studies and cohort studies and evaluate the relationship between serum VEGF and psoriasis vulgaris. The search time limits will be from the establishment of the database to December 2020. Two researchers will independently screen the studies, extract data, and evaluate the risk of bias of the studies. The Meta-analysis will be carried out with the RevMan5.3 software. The quality of all included studies will be evaluated by the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Results This study will evaluate the relationship between serum VEGF and the pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris. Defective mitophagy and mitochondrial dysfunction have been linked to aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD). β2-Adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) is critical for mitochondrial and cognitive function. However, researchers have not clearly determined whether ADRB2 activation ameliorates defective mitophagy and cognitive deficits in individuals with AD. Here, we observed that the activation of ADRB2 by clenbuterol (Clen, ADRB2 agonist, 2 mg/kg/day) ameliorated amyloid-β-induced (Aβ1-42 bilateral intracerebral infusion, 2 μl, 5 μg/μl) memory deficits. Activation of ADRB2 also attenuated Aβ-induced mitochondrial dysfunction, as revealed by increased ATP levels, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP/Δψm) and complex I activity. Further studies revealed that ADRB2 activation restored mitophagy deficits, as revealed by the increased light chain 3 (LC3)-II/LC3-I ratio, Atg5 levels, and Atg7 levels and decreased p62 levels, along with the upregulation of PTEN-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1), Parkin and NAD

Background Peri-implantitis is an inflammation that occurs around the implant, resulting in varying degrees of inflammatory damage to the soft and hard tissues. The characteristic criterion is the loss of the supporting bone in an inflammatory environment. However, the specific mechanisms and biomarkers involved in peri-implantitis remain to be further studied. Recently, competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNA) and immune microenvironment have been found to play a more important role in the inflammatory process. In our study, we analyzed the expression of immune related microRNAs (miRNAs), long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and message RNAs (mRNAs) in peri-implantitis by analyzing GSE33774 and GSE57631. Methods In this study, we explored the expression profile data of immune-related lncRNAs, miRNAs and mRNAs, and constructed immune-related ceRNA network involved in the pathogenesis of peri-implantitis. In addition, the CIBERSORT was used to evaluate the content of immune cells in normal tissues and peri-implantitis to detect the immune microenvironment of peri-implantitis. Results In the analysis, 14 DElncRNAs, 16 DEmiRNAs, and 18 DEmRNAs were used to establish an immune related ceRNA network and the immune infiltration patterns associated with peri-implantitis was discovered. Through the mutual verification of the two datasets, we found that GSK3B and miR-1297 may have important significance in the immune microenvironment and pathogenesis of peri-implantitis and GSK3B was closely related to four types of immune cells, especially with the highest correlation with resting mast cells (P = 0.0003). Conclusions Through immune-related ceRNA network, immune-related genes (IRGs) and immune cell infiltration can further comprehensively understand the pathogenesis of peri-implantitis, which built up an immunogenomic landscape with clinical significance for peri-implantitis.

Background Serum ferritin (SF), as an acute-phase response protein, is used to reflect the degree of oxidative stress and systemic inflammatory responses. This study was designed to assess the effect of elevated SF levels on the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP). Methods From January 2013 to December 2020, 200 consecutive patients with AP were retrospectively reviewed to analyze the relationships among the etiologies of pancreatitis, the severity of the disease and SF levels. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and logistic regression analysis were used to assess whether elevated SF levels could predict the onset of organ failure in AP. Results 92 (46%) had high SF levels (> 275 ng/ml). SF levels were not associated with the etiology of AP disease. Among patients with high SF levels, there was a significant increase in the proportion of patients with severe AP (23.1% vs. 76.9%) and a higher proportion of systemic inflammatory response scores (25.9% vs. 44.6%) in comparison to patients with normal SF levels. The area under the ROC curve for SF in predicting persistent organ failure was 0.812 [95% confidence interval 0.721–0.904]. Conclusions F concentrations were positively correlated with the severity of AP, and quantitative assessment of SF can predict disease severity and organ failure in patients with AP.

Background: Fear of progression (FoP) is present in acute pancreatitis (AP) patients and has an impact on quality of life and self-management, but lack of assessment tools. This study therefore aimed to develop and evaluates the psychometric properties of the fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form in acute pancreatitis patients (AP-FoP-Q-SF). Besides, the cut-off score for high FoP and identification of patient characteristics associated with FoP.Methods: A prospective cross-sectional validation study was performed in 417 patients diagnosed with AP. Redundant items were systematically excluded. Internal consistency (Cronbach’s α), factorial structure (principal component analysis), convergent validity (confirmatory factor analysis), and criterion validity tested against quality-of-life and anxiety were assessed. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to identify the most appropriate cutoff value for high FoP.Associations between patient variables and FoP were evaluated using multiple logistic regression.Results: The AP-FoP-Q-SF based on the FoP-Q-SF were developed. Three items were excluded using item analysis. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed a clear two-factor structure (57.4% explained variance). Internal consistency was acceptable (Cronbach’s α=0.771). The cutoff of 26 identified 35.3% of patients with high FoP scores. High FoP scores were associated with age (OR=0.96, 95%CI: 0.94-0.98), recurrence times (OR=1.22, 95%CI: 1.02-1.45) and anxiety (OR=1.27, 95%CI: 1.16-1.40).Conclusion: The AP-FoP-Q-SF is a good candidate for use as a screening tool for FoP in AP patients. Clinicians can use the AP-FoP-Q-SF to assess this kind of emotion and take promotion programs to avoid worse effects.

Biomass particle is one of the most important solid briquette fuels for agricultural and forestry biomass energy. Temperature, pressure, moisture and discharge holes are important factors to control biomass particle forming. The inappropriate setting of the parameters or blocking of the discharge hole will lead to the defects of the biomass particles, such as too short or poor roundness or pits or cracks. In order to detect these defects automatically, this paper proposes a method based on K-Means with prior knowledge. Firstly, the inner boundary tracking region detection algorithm and filling algorithm are combined to extract the regions in the backlight image. The regions are divided into debris, independent biomass particle regions and adhesive biomass particle regions. Secondly, K-Means with prior knowledge is used to segment the adhesive regions to get the independent biomass particle regions. Finally, the features of the biomass particles are extracted to judge the type of defects. The proposed method has been tested on images acquired from the vision system of the ring roller pellet mill. Experimental results show the efficiency of the proposed method in high detection accuracy and short detection time.

Aim The study was to explore the significant influence of an English nursing course in nursing postgraduate internationalization education. Design A cross‐sectional study. Method The research object included three grades (a total of 18) of nursing postgraduate students in the Nursing School of Yangzhou University. A standardized four‐section questionnaire designed by the authors was applied to the survey. Results 88.89% were satisfied with the course design and application of the English nursing course, and the scores for all 6 items were above the average, but only 44.4% of the postgraduate students understood the course completely. In teaching design and content aspect, 88.9%–94.4% postgraduate nurses felt that the course learning requirements were clear and could improve their knowledge and capacity for scientific research. All of the postgraduate nurses were identified with the teacher's moral and academic characters. Conclusions To establish English nursing courses for nursing postgraduate students is beneficial for postgraduate internationalization education.

Background Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic cancer. Chemoresistance, especially platinum-resistance, is closely related to metastasis of ovarian cancer, however, the molecular basis by which links chemoresistance and metastasis remains vague. Disordered arachidonic acid (AA) metabolism has been shown to play an important role in the advanced ovarian cancer. This study aimed to explore the underlying mechanism involving eicosanoid metabolism that controlling chemoresistance and metastasis of ovarian cancer. Methods Cisplatin (DDP)-resistant SKOV3 (SKOV3-R) cells were constantly induced. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was performed to determine the AA metabolism in SKOV3 and SKOV3-R cells. Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) and percentage of cell viability were tested using cell counting kit 8 (CCK-8). Realtime quantitative PCR (qPCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were used to evaluate indicated genes and proteins respectively. Bioinformatic analysis and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) were performed to predict and identify the co-transcription factor of interest genes. Tumor growth and metastasis in the liver were assessed with nude mice by subcutaneously injection of SKOV3-R cells. Results SKOV3-R cells expressed higher multidrug resistance-associated proteins (MRPs) MRP1 and MRP4. They showed enhanced metastatic ability and produced increased AA-derived eicosanoids. Mechanistically, MRPs, epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers Snail and Slug, as well as key enzymes involved in AA-metabolism including 12-lipoxygenase (12LOX) were transcribed by the mutual transcription factor SP1 which was consistently upregulated in SKOV3-R cells. Inhibition of SP1 or 12LOX sensitized SKOV3-R cells to DDP and impaired metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion Our results reveal that SP1-12LOX axis signaling plays a key role in DDP-resistance and metastasis, which provide a new therapeutic target for ovarian cancer.

Although fatty pancreas (FP) has not been formally defined as a cause of pancreatic fistula, existing research has shown that it can increase the incidence of POPF by increasing pancreatic tenderness; therefore, it may be a potential risk factor. This study aimed to discern whether FP was associated with POPF.MethodTwo reviewers independently performed literature searches from five electronic databases. According to the established inclusion criteria, we extracted necessary data from the studies that met the criteria for further analysis. We pooled the odds ratios (ORs) from individual studies using a random-effects model to investigate the associations between POPF and the prognosis of FP.ResultA total of 11 studies involving 2484 individuals were included. The pooled prevalence of POPF was 18% (95% CI: 12-24%). Body mass index (BMI) was associated with a significantly increased risk of POPF (OR=3.55; 95% CI: 1.83, 6.86; P=0.0002; I²=0). FP was obviously associated with the occurrence of POPF (OR=3.75; 95% CI: 1.64, 8.58; P=0.002; I²=78).ConclusionFP is closely associated with the development of POPF, and the early identification of these high-risk patients can help to reduce the incidence of POPF.Systematic Review RegistrationThe Registration URL link is (https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/).
