This article reports the first operation of a double-sided CMOS pixelated ladder in a collider experiment, namely in the inner tracker volume of the Belle II experiment during the Phase 2 run of the SuperKEKB collider. Design and integration of the detector system in the experiment interaction region is first described. The two modules operated almost continuously during slightly more than four months, recording data for the monitoring of the hit rate close to beams. Details of the off-line data analysis are provided and a method to estimate particle momentum from the 2 hits measured per crossing particle is proposed., Comment: 18 pages, 13 figures. The Micro Vertex Detector (MVD) of the future Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will have to provide a spatial precision of $\sim 5~\rm \mu m$ in combination with a material budget of 0.3\% - 0.5\% X$_0$ for a full detector station. Simultaneously, it will have to handle the rate and radiation load of operating the fixed target experiment at an average collision rate of 100 kHz (4 - 10 AGeV Au+Au collisions) or 10 MHz (up to 28 GeV p-A collisions). The harsh requirements call for a dedicated detector technology, which is the next generation CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor MIMOSIS. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 (sqrt(s_NN) = 2.7 - 4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials (mu_B > 500 MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation-of-state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. So far little effort has been put into researching the importance of internal ERP project stakeholders mutual interactions,realizing the projects complexity,influence on the whole organization, and high risk for a useful final outcome. This research analyzes the stakeholders interactions and positions in the project network, their criticality, potential bottlenecks and conflicts. The main methods used are Social Network Analysis, and the elicitation of drivers for the individual players. Information was collected from several stakeholders from three large ERP projects all in global companies headquartered in Finland, together with representatives from two different ERP vendors, and with two experienced ERP consultants. The analysis gives quantitative as well as qualitative characterization of stakeholder criticality (mostly the Project Manager(s), the Business Owner(s) and the Process Owner(s)), degree of centrality, closeness, mediating or bottleneck roles, relational ties and conflicts (individual, besides those between business and project organizations), and clique formations. A generic internal stakeholder network model is established as well as the criticality of the project phases. The results are summarized in the form of a list of recommendations for future ERP projects to address the internal stakeholder impacts .Project management should utilize the latest technology to provide tools to increase the interaction between the stakeholders and to monitor the strength of these relations. Social network analysis tools could be used in the projects to visualize the stakeholder relations in order to better understand the possible risks related to the relations (or lack of them).

International audience; The long term goal of the CERN Experimental Physics Department R&D on monolithic sensorsis the development of sub-100nm CMOS sensors for high energy physics. The first technologyselected is the TPSCo 65nm CMOS imaging technology. A first submission MLR1 includedseveral small test chips with sensor and circuit prototypes and transistor test structures. One ofthe main questions to be addressed was how to optimize the sensor in the presence of significantin-pixel circuitry. In this paper this optimization is described as well as the experimental resultsfrom the MLR1 run confirming its effectiveness. A second submission investigating wafer-scalestitching has just been completed. This work has been carried out in strong synergy with the ITS3upgrade of the ALICE experiment.

The commissioning of the Fenno-Skan HVdc link between Finland and Sweden, with the longest submarine dc cable in the world, is described. The main pre-commissioning activities, important for an efficient commissioning, are discussed together with time schedules and suitable organisation forms. The procedures to test special control features, such as subsynchronous oscillation (SSO) damping control are presented. The full scale network interaction tests which are an important part of the commissioning are also discussed. These tests succeeded very well and provided a lot of information about the system behaviour for future operation and planning purposes.

- Abstract
Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 (sqrt(s_NN) = 2.7 - 4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials (mu_B > 500 MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation-of-state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. In this article, we review the motivation for and the physics programme of CBM, including activities before the start of data taking in 2022, in the context of the worldwide efforts to explore high-density QCD matter.

- Abstract
Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 (sqrt(s_NN) = 2.7 - 4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials (mu_B > 500 MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation-of-state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. In this article, we review the motivation for and the physics programme of CBM, including activities before the start of data taking in 2022, in the context of the worldwide efforts to explore high-density QCD matter.

Detectors and Experimental Techniques - Abstract
Designed and manufactured in a commercial CMOS 0.35 μm OPTO process for equipping the EUDET beam telescope, MIMOSA26 is the first reticule size pixel sensor with digital output and integrated zero suppression. It features a matrix of pixels with 576 rows and 1152 columns, covering an active area of ~224 mm2. A single point resolution of about 4 μm was obtained with a pixel pitch of 18.4 μm. Its architecture allows a fast readout frequency of ~10 k frames/s. The paper describes the chip design, test and major characterisation outcome.

In a detector system, clock distribution to sensors must be controlled at a level allowing proper synchronisation. In order to reach theses requirements for the HFT (Heavy Flavor Tracker) upgrade at STAR (Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC), we have proposed to distribute a low frequency clock at 10 MHz which will be multiplied to 160 MHz in each sensor by a PLL. A PLL has been designed for period jitter less than 20 ps rms, low power consumption and manufactured in a 0.35 μm CMOS process.

- Abstract
Background: Lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol with statin therapy has been shown to reduce the incidence of atherosclerotic events in many types of patient, but it remains uncertain whether it is of net benefit among people with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Method(s): Patients with advanced CKD (blood creatinine >=1.7 mg/dL [>= 150 mumol/L] in men or >=1.5 mg/dL [ >= 130 mumol/L] in women) with no known history of myocardial infarction or coronary revascularization were randomized in a ratio of 4:4:1 to ezetimibe 10 mg plus simvastatin 20 mg daily versus matching placebo versus simvastatin 20 mg daily (with the latter arm rerandomized at 1 year to ezetimibe 10 mg plus simvastatin 20 mg daily vs placebo). The key outcome will be major atherosclerotic events, defined as the combination of myocardial infarction, coronary death, ischemic stroke, or any revascularization procedure. Results A total of 9,438 CKD patients were randomized, of whom 3,056 were on dialysis. Mean age was 61 years, two thirds were male, one fifth had diabetes mellitus, and one sixth had vascular disease. Compared with either placebo or simvastatin alone, allocation to ezetimibe plus simvastatin was not associated with any excess of myopathy, hepatic toxicity, or biliary complications during the first year of follow-up. Compared with placebo, allocation to ezetimibe 10 mg plus simvastatin 20 mg daily yielded average LDL cholesterol differences of 43 mg/dL (1.10 mmol/L) at 1 year and 33 mg/dL (0.85 mmol/L) at 2.5 years. Follow-up is scheduled to continue until August 2010, when all patients will have been followed for at least 4 years. Conclusions SHARP should provide evidence about the efficacy and safety of lowering LDL cholesterol with the combination of ezetimibe and simvastatin among a wide range of patients with CKD.Copyright © 2010, Mosby, Inc. The next generation of 4 pi arrays for high-precision gamma -ray spectroscopy will involve "gamma -ray tracking front-end on digital signal processing techniques, which allows to extract energy, timing and spatial information on the interactions of a gamma -ray in the Ge detector by pulse shape analysis of its signals. Utilizing the information on the positions of the interaction points and the energies released at each point the tracks of the gamma -rays in a Ge shell can be reconstructed in three dimensions., NR 2015

A high resolution beam telescope, based on CMOS Monolithic Active Pixels Sensors (MAPS), is being developed under the EUDET collaboration, a coordinated detector R&D program for a future international linear collider. A very good spatial resolution < 5 μm, a fast readout time of 100 μs for the whole array (136 x 576 pixels) and a high granularity can be obtained with this technology. A recent fast MAPS chip, designed in AMS CMOS 0.35 μm Opto process with 14 μm epitaxial layer and called MIMOSA22, was submitted to foundry. MIMOSA22 has an active area of 26.5 mm² with a pixel pitch of 18.4 μm arranged in an array of 576 rows by 136 columns where 8 columns have analog test outputs and 128 have their outputs connected to offset compensated discriminator stages. The pixel array is divided in seventeen blocks of pixels, with different amplification gain, diode size, pixel architecture and is addressed row-wise through a serially programmable (JTAG) sequencer. Discriminators have a common adjustable threshold with internal DAC. MIMOSA22 is the last chip (IDC-Intermediate Digital Chip), before the final sensor of the EUDET-JRA1 beam telescope, which will be installed on the 6 GeV electron beam line at DESY. In this paper, laboratory test results on analog and digital parts are presented. Test beam results, obtained with a 120 GeV pion beam at CERN, are also presented. The CBM experiment will investigate heavy-ion collisions at beam energies from 8 to 45 AGeV at the future accelerator facility FAIR. The goal of the experiment is to study the QCD phase diagram in the vincinity of the QCD critical point. To do so, CBM aims at measuring rare probes among them open charm. In order to identify those rare and short lived particles despite the rich combinatorial background generated in heavy ion collisions, a micro vertex detector (MVD) providing an unprecedented combination of high rate capability and radiation hardness, very light material budget and excellent granularity is required. In this work, we will discuss the concept of this detector and summarize the status of the R&D.
