Our previous study demonstrated that gypenosides (Gp) exert protective effects on retinal nerve fibers and axons in a mouse model of experimental autoimmune optic neuritis. However, the therapeutic mechanisms remain unclear. Thus, in this study, a model of oxidative damage in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) was established to investigate the protective effect of Gp, and its possible influence on oxidative stress in RGCs. Treatment of cells with H2O2 induced RGC injury owing to the generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). In addition, the activities of antioxidative enzymes decreased and the expression of inflammatory factors increased, resulting in an increase in cellular apoptosis. Gp helped RGCs to become resistant to oxidation damage by directly reducing the amount of ROS in cells and exerting protective effects against H2O2-induced apoptosis. Treatment with Gp also reduced the generation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and increased nuclear respiratory factor 2 (Nrf-2) levels so as to increase the levels of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and glutathione peroxidase 1/2 (Gpx1/2), which can enhance antioxidation in RGCs. In conclusion, our data indicate that neuroprotection by Gp involves its antioxidation and anti-inflammation effects. Gp prevents apoptosis through a mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. This finding might provide novel insights into understanding the mechanism of the neuroprotective effects of gypenosides in the treatment of optic neuritis.

Purpose Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells is a key pathological event in proliferative retinal diseases such as proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR). This study aimed to explore a new method to reverse EMT in RPE cells to develop an improved therapy for proliferative retinal diseases. Methods In vitro, human embryonic stem cell-derived RPE cells were passaged and cultured at low density for an extended period of time to establish an EMT model. At different stages of EMT after treatment with known molecules or combinations of molecules, the morphology was examined, transepithelial electrical resistance (TER) was measured, and expression of RPE- and EMT-related genes were examined with RT-PCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence. In vivo, a rat model of EMT in RPE cells was established via subretinal injection of dispase. Retinal function was examined by electroretinography (ERG), and retinal morphology was examined. Results EMT of RPE cells was effectively induced by prolonged low-density culture. After EMT occurred, only the combination of the Rho-associated coiled-coil containing protein kinase (ROCK) inhibitor Y27632 and the TGF-β receptor inhibitor RepSox (RY treatment) effectively suppressed and reversed the EMT process, even in cells in an intermediate state of EMT. In dispase-treated Sprague-Dawley rats, RY treatment maintained the morphology of RPE cells and the retina and preserved retinal function. Conclusions RY treatment might promote mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET), the inverse process of EMT, to maintain the epithelial-like morphology and function of RPE cells. This combined RY therapy could be a new strategy for treating proliferative retinal diseases, especially those involving EMT of RPE cells.

Background Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy is the commonest orbital disease in adults. However, shortcomings still exist in treatments. The aim of this study was to identify the efficacy and potential mechanism of gypenosides in the treatment of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy. Material/Methods The Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform was screened for active compounds of gypenosides, and targets were predicted using Swiss Target Prediction. The targets of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy were obtained from Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, Comparative Toxicogenomic Database and GeneCards Human gene database. Gene Ontology (GO), the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Reactome Pathways were determined based on the common targets. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed to further understand of relationship among target genes, compounds and proteins. Molecular docking was performed to investigate the binding ability between gypenosides and hub genes. Results A total of 70 targets for gypenosides and 804 targets for thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy were obtained with 8 common targets identified. GO analysis and KEGG pathway analysis revealed that the hub genes were enriched in JAK-STAT, while Reactome pathways analysis indicated genes enriched in interleukin pathways. PPI network showed STAT1, STAT3, and STAT4 were at the center. Additionally, molecular docking indicated that STAT1 and STAT3 display good binding forces with gypenosides. Conclusions This study indicates that target genes mainly enriched in JAK-STAT signaling pathway, particularly in STATs, which can be combined with gypenosides. This may suggest that gypenosides have curative effect on thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy via the JAK-STAT pathway.

The Qinling orogen records the prolonged amalgamation history between the North China Block (NCB) and the South China Block (SCB) accompanied by major granitoid intrusions during the Triassic. However, the petrogenesis of these granitoids, especially that of the peraluminous granites, remains a matter of debate. Detailed study of these peraluminous granites, which are the products of crustal melting, will give insights into the melting process and petrogenesis of peraluminous magmas and will further constrain the regional geological evolution. In this study, Xiahe (XH) tourmaline-bearing two-mica granite and Baijiazhuang (BJZ) two-mica granite were selected for systematic analysis of their mineralogy, petrology, zircon U-Pb geochronology, and geochemistry. The zircon U-Pb dating showed that the XH and BJZ granites were emplaced at approximately 242 Ma and approximately 214 Ma, respectively. The presence of muscovite and tourmaline, high peraluminosity at >1.1, low oxygen fugacity (ƒO2) conditions below the fayalite–magnetite–quartz (FMQ) buffer, and low zircon saturation temperatures indicate sedimentary protolith (S-type) granitic affinity. High Mg diorites provide important insights into crust-mantle interaction during tectonic evolution of orogenic belt. An integrated study including zircon U-Pb dating, whole-rock geochemistry and isotopic compositions of Sr and Nd was carried out on high Mg diorites of the Wulong pluton located in the narrowest part of the South Qinling Belt. Crystallized ages of 218-210 Ma are obtained in combination with the published data. These rocks are characterized with relatively high MgO (2.76–7.17%), Cr (68.7-310 ppm) and Ni (21.3–76.3 ppm) contents. Most diorites exhibit high Sr/Y and La/Yb ratios with negligible Eu anomaly. Isotopic compositions of whole-rock show enriched attributes (87Sr/86Sr(i) = 0.7050–0.7071, eNd(t) = −7.56 to −3.45). Geochemical models indicate that these rocks did not result from melting of subducted slab, magma mixing, fractional crystallization or melts derived from delaminated lower crust reacted with mantle. Instead, high Mg diorites were generated through basaltic melts derived from asthenosphere mantle assimilating crustal components with crystallized phase of garnet-bearing amphibolite (AFC). Together with regional geological setting of the South Qinling Belt, we propose that the parental magma of these high Mg diorites was probably originated from upwelled asthenosphere mantle at the base of thinned crust after delamination of thickened crust during Late Triassic. The continental crust of the South Qinling Belt was thickened as a result of collision with the Yangtze Block during Middle Triassic. Then eclogitized lower crust collapsed and foundered into asthenosphere mantle due to partial melting of thickened crust during Late Triassic. In response, the upwelling and underplating of asthenosphere mantle took place at the base of continental crust. Moreover, upwelling of hot mantle may provide the heat source for migmatites and initiate the doming of Foping area.

To explore the effects of propaganda and education on the prevention and control of AIDS infection, a model of AIDS transmission in MSM population is proposed and theoretically analyzed by introducing media impact factors. The basic reproduction number of AIDS transmission in MSM group without media intervention R0 = 1.5447 is obtained. Based on the comparison of the implementation of three different detection and treatment measures, it can be concluded that the promotion of condom use is more effective than other strategies, and using condoms with a fixed partner can reduce the value of R0 more quickly.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is an acute or subacute demyelinating disease that affects mainly the optic nerve and spinal cord. A major proportion of NMOSD cases have a relationship with autoimmunity to aquaporin 4 (AQP4) found on the central nervous system. NMOSD can occur repeatedly, causing symptoms such as decreased vision and weakness of limbs. The main goal of current therapy is to relieve acute symptoms and prevent recurrence of the disease. Without timely and appropriate treatment, the recurrence and disability rates are high. In the present work, we review recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with NMOSD, as well as the pathogenesis and mechanisms of AQP4-IgG-seropositive NMOSD.

Aim: This present study aims to investigate the prognostic value of FGD genes for predicting the overall survival in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) patients. Materials & methods: Clinical information and FGD gene expressions of 513 HNSC patients were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset. Kaplan–Meier survival, Pearson correlation coefficient analyses and enrichment analyses were performed based on The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset, as well as FGD gene expressions analysis in normal tissues. Results: The survival analyses showed that high levels of FGD2 and FGD3 mRNA expressions, and the combination of high levels of FGD2 and FGD3 mRNAs were associated with the favorable overall survival in HNSC patients (p < 0.01). Oppositely, no significant correlations (p > 0.05) were observed between gender and race and OS. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that the expression levels of FGD2 and FGD3 mRNAs in HNSC are associated with favorable prognosis and may be regarded as potential prognostic biomarkers.

Migmatites provide a record of melt formation and crustal rheology. In this study we present zircon U-Pb ages and geochemical composition of migmatites from the Foping dome and granites from the Wulong pluton. U-Pb results from migmatite zircons indicate two episodes of partial melting. Rim domains from a leucosome in the Longcaoping area yield an age of ca. 209 Ma. Migmatites collected from the Foping dome yield U-Pb zircon ages of ~ 2910 to ~ 190 Ma, suggesting the involvement of meta-sedimentary source components. Rim domains of the zircons with low Th/U ratios ( 2 O and Sr contents than the low Sr/Y granites. They also lack negative Eu anomalies and are depleted in HREE compared to the low Sr/Y granites. Initial 87 Sr/ 86 Sr ratios and e Nd values of all the samples roughly overlap with those of Neoproterozoic basement rocks exposed in South Qinling. Including previous studies, we propose that the high and low Sr/Y granites formed by melting of thickened and normal crust, respectively. Close temporal-spatial relationship of the high and low Sr/Y granites with the two-stage migmatization events implies variation of crustal thickness and thermal overprints of the orogenic crust in post-collisional collapse. Following the collision of South Qinling and the Yangtze block prior to 219 Ma, partial melting of the deep crust occurred. The melts migrated upwards to form the high Sr/Y granites. This process occurred rapidly and caused collapse of the thickened crust and carried heat upwards, leading to further partial melting within the shallower crust and formation of the low Sr/Y granites.

Despite the rapid development of numerous types of treatment, including radiotherapy (RT) as the main strategy, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) has a poor prognosis. Recent studies demonstrated that immunotherapy can improve the survival of patients with locally advanced and metastatic ESCC. Furthermore, previous studies reported that the expression of programmed death-ligand 1 is significantly associated with esophageal cancer prognosis. At present, several ongoing clinical trials have extended the use of immunotherapy from palliative and salvage treatments to neoadjuvant treatment with concurrent chemoradiation. The first- or second-line treatments were used to explore antitumor efficacy with reduced adverse events. The combination of RT and immunotherapy can exert a local therapeutic effect and improve the function of the immune system, enhancing antitumor efficacy. This review investigated the role of immunotherapy and radiotherapy in ESCC and described the potential efficacy of combining immunotherapy with radiotherapy in ESCC.

Gynostemma pentaphyllum (Thunb.) Makino (GpM) and its derivatives, especially gypenosides (Gyps), are widely used as safe and convenient natural herbal drugs for the treatment of many diseases for a long time, and Gyps have different oral bioavailability (OB) values and low ability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The effects of GpM and isolates on fibrosis, inflammation, oxidation, proliferation and migration are proved. GpM shows bidirectional regulation effect on proliferation, oxidation and apoptosis in tumor and non-tumor cells. GpM and its extractions can resist proliferation, activate oxidation and apoptosis in tumor cells and have opposite effects on non-tumor cells. We succinctly present some current views of medicinal value and potential therapeutic mechanisms of GpM and its derivatives.

The relationship among magmatism, large-scale metallogenesis of Southeast China, and subduction of the Pacific plate has long been debated. The lower Yangtze River belt (LYRB) in the northeastern edge of Southeast China is characterized by intense late Mesozoic magmatism and associated polymetallic mineralization such as copper, gold, iron, tungsten, molybdenum, etc. The copper-related adakitic rocks (148–130 Ma) in this belt are the oldest episode of magmatism and intruded as small intermediate-acid intrusive bodies. The Huayuangong granitoids (HYG), located in the southern part of this belt, however, are copper-barren. Three granitoid samples from this pluton give zircon U–Pb ages of 126.4 ± 1.6 Ma, 125.9 ± 1.9 Ma, and 126.2 ± 1.2 Ma, respectively. The HYG has A-type affinity with metaluminous to weakly peraluminous, high FeOT/(FeOT+MgO) ratios, and high Zr+Nb+Ce+Yb contents. Purpose To investigate the effect of Gypenosides (Gyps) on the inflammation and fibrosis in orbital fibroblasts (OFs) in Graves ophthalmopathy (GO). Methods Bioinformatics analyses were performed to identify the enriched genes and signaling pathways related to Gyps function. For ex vivo experiments, OFs were cultured from orbital connective tissues from patients with GO. OF proliferation was estimated by Cell Counting Kit-8 assay. Effects of Gyps treatment on interleukin (IL)-1β-induced inflammation and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)-induced fibrosis were evaluated by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and Western blotting. OFs were treated with IL-1β or TGF-β1 in the absence or presence of Gyps pretreatment, and the levels of related mRNA or proteins were evaluated by RT-qPCR or ELISA. Results Eight inflammation-related target genes and nine fibrosis-related target genes were screened out. These genes were mainly enriched in pathways corresponding to inflammation and fibrosis, respectively. IL-1β-induced upregulation of inflammatory cytokines, and TGF-β-induced upregulation of fibrotic mediators in OFs were downregulated by Gyps. Moreover, Gyps reduced the activation of Toll like receptors 4/nuclear factor-κ B signaling and TGF-β1/SMAD2/SMAD4 signaling in GO OFs. Conclusions Gyps could protect GO-derived OFs against IL-1β-induced inflammation and TGF-β1-induced fibrosis. Thus Gyps might have therapeutic potential on inflammation and fibrosis in GO.

Rationale: Myiasis is a parasitic disease caused by fly larvae of the Diptera order that infest human and other vertebrate animal tissues. Orbital myiasis is a potentially destructive infestation of the orbital tissues, which may affect individuals with previous ocular diseases or disorders of consciousness. Patient concerns: A 72-year-old man presented with a complaint of repeated pain for two years after trauma to his right eyelid and aggravated symptoms with larvae wriggling out for 2 days. An orbital computed tomography scan revealed right eyeball protrusion and periocular soft tissue edema. Two days later, magnetic resonance imaging showed that the shape of the right eyeball was changed and that the normal structure of the eyeball could not be identified. Diagnoses: Due to the patient's symptoms and imaging examination results, the diagnosis of orbital myiasis was made. Interventions: The patient was treated by exenteration of the right orbit, and all necrotic tissues and larvae were removed. The defect was repaired via reconstruction with a pedicled musculocutaneous flap from the forehead region. Antibiotics and tetanus toxoid therapy were utilized to prevent potential bacterial infection. Outcomes: The patient recovered well postoperatively and was discharged uneventfully. During the 6-month follow-up period, the wound healed well. Lessons: Advanced age and untreated eye trauma are risk factors for orbital myiasis. Timely removal of larvae and elimination of infections are important measures for protecting the eyeball.

This paper takes the enterprise actual demands as the starting point, designing a intelligent home control system which is based on Android4.0 and Wi-Fi home server. For the wireless terminal software design framework of home control system of the client, combining some examples to achieve an organic unity of four home wireless control modules which are lighting control modules, air-conditioning control modules, appliance control modules and curtain control modules. The Android application programming, graphical interface designing, the background data processing and database designing are discussed in detail, as well as the development process of UDP communication between intelligent terminal and the home gateway, which is tested effectively on the TV, DVD, lighting, air conditioning, acoustics, curtains and other wireless control equipment based on Android4.0 intelligent terminal, the results of tests show that it gets some good effects on the practical applications of enterprises.

Cu–Au mineralization in the Yangtze River belt is closely related to the formation of adakitic rocks. The origin of these rocks is still controversially discussed. In this study, we report zircon U–Pb ages, major-trace element and Pb–Sr–Nd isotopes of Cu–Au related adakitic rocks from the Anqing and Tongling areas of the lower Yangtze River belt (LYRB). Geochemically, the rocks show similarities to adakites derived from slab melting. Statistical evaluation of existing zircon U–Pb data from the LYRB reveals a protracted magmatic activity from 148 Ma to 106 Ma with peak activity at ~ 139 Ma. Cu–Au related magmatism tends to decrease in age from the southwest (Gan-Hang belt) to the northeast (LYRB). This trend was probably imposed by a roll-back process of the paleo-Pacific plate. The Cu–Au related adakitic rocks in the Gan-Hang belt and the middle and lower Yangtze River belt show systematic variation in geochemical and Pb–Sr–Nd isotopic compositions, pointing to a change in magma composition with time. The rocks have features in common with Cenozoic slab-derived adakites, but have experienced different extents of melt peridotite interaction and complex crustal assimilation processes. AFC modeling shows that input of crustal material increased with time. Combined with the decrease of estimated copper reserves, it is concluded that this records a diminishing influence of slab-derived components during the course of the paleo-Pacific subduction process.

Simulation play an important role in the research of PET/CT imaging technology. In this paper, GATE (Geant4 Application Tomography Emission) software packages and NCAT(dynamic NURBS-based cardiac-torso phantom) were used to simulate GE ST PET/CT imaging. GATE provides abundant of functions to simulate both PET/CT imaging procedure and geometric phantom generation. NCAT can generate voxlised body torso phantom. Three different kinds of digital phantoms were designed and generated for PET/CT imaging simulation. The simulation output of GATE was converted to the data format that the STIR (Software for Tomographic Image Reconstruction) requires to reconstruct image by the OSEM (ordered subsets expectation-maximization) algorithm. The experiment results validate that GATE and NCAT are able to simulate PET/CT imaging.

Investigation of association relation for medical prescription appears as an essential part for the treatment of patient in clinical pharmacy. Not often, however occasionally, the pharmaceutical conflict that could possibly relate to unpredictable hazard to patient may occur. Therefore, clinical physicians apply specific software package embedded in HIS (Hospital Information System) to sensitively and instantly discover the potential danger from the electronic prescription. In some HIS systems or independent software packages, Apriori algorithm is applied in pharmaceutical conflict checking, however, the efficacy is encumbered due to the mechanism of the algorithm. The mentioned algorithm Apriori is a classical algorithm for association rules mining, it applies an iteration method called searching step by step, to explore K itemset by (K-1) itemset. Each time when it explores a K-itemset, Apriori algorithm must scan the whole database, which causes the obvious reduction of efficiency due to the requirement of constant database scanning. To solve this problem, an improved Apriori algorithm based on Linkedlist is applied. Due to the decrease of transactions number, the operating efficiency of the algorithm is enhanced during the process of K-itemsets exploration. In order to reduce the number of transactions, the database is transformed into a series LinkedLists which could allocate an element of L1 as header node. After being transformed, the whole database scanning could be skipped. Instead, the corresponding LinkedList is scanned to explore K-itemsets. The proposed method could filter the unrelated transactions during the generation of frequent itemsets. The experiment proves that the new algorithm could release better performance rather than original Apriori algorithm.

Background To evaluate the effect of intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) and ranibizumab (IVR) for the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to pathologic myopia (PM) by meta-analysis. Methods Pertinent publications of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were identified through systemic searches of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of science, Cochrane Library, clinicaltrials.gov, CNKI, CQVIP, and Wanfang database. All comparative studies of IVB or IVR as treatment for CNV secondary to pathologic myopia were included. Meta-analysis of these RCTs was performed using Review Manager 5.3 software. The χ test and I values were used to analyze heterogeneity. Measurements included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central foveal thickness (CFT). Results A total of 3 randomized controlled clinical trials involving 158 eyes were included, 81 eyes in IVB group and 77 eyes in IVR group. Compared with baseline, at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after IVB or IVR treatment, BCVA was significantly increased. Change of BCVA at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months did not vary significantly between IVB and IVR group (1 month: Z = 0.30, 95% CI = -0.08 to 0.11, P = .76; 3 months: Z = 0.36, 95% CI = -0.10 to 0.15, P = .72; 6 months: Z = 0.17, 95% CI = -0.10 to 0.12, P = .86; 12 months: Z = 0.64, 95% CI = -0.15 to 0.08, P = .52). Conclusion Both IVR and IVB can significantly improve BCVA of eyes with mCNV, but there was no significant difference between the 2 therapies on the treatment of mCNV.

This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of intravitreal dexamethasone (DEX) implant and intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatments for macular edema (ME) secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO), central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), and branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). The electronic databases comprehensively searched for the studies that compared DEX with anti-VEGF treatments in patients suffering from RVO-related ME. The effectiveness was estimated using best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central retinal thickness (CRT), and intraocular pressure (IOP). All data were analyzed by Review Manager (RevMan) 5.3. According to the meta-analysis from five randomized control trials, both DEX implant and anti-VEGF agent treatments were effective, but no significant differences in BCVA and CRT were observed between these two treatments. Novartis’ two studies indicated that anti-VEGF agents significantly reduced the CRT compared with DEX implant at 6 months [weighted mean difference: 158.53 μm, 95% confidence interval (CI): (71.09, 245.96), P = 0.0004]. Furthermore, anti-VEGF agents showed some advantages on cataract formation [risk ratio (RR): 3.43, 95% CI: (1.35, 8.71), P = 0.009] and other adverse events [RR: 1.19, 95% CI: (1.09, 1.31), P = 0.0002] without heterogeneity (P = 0.20, I2 = 35%). Anti-VEGF agents were also effective treatments for cataract formation or less adverse events for RVO-related ME. In contrast, DEX implant had higher risk for IOP elevation and lower cataract incidence than anti-VEGF agents. Hence, complementary and alternative treatments are expected.

In this study, we try to explore the effect of orbital decompression treatment on severe dysthyroid optic neuropathy. We retrospectively collected demographic and clinical characteristics of thyroid eye disease patients who performed orbital decompression. Then we analyzed the change of best-corrected visual acuity and exophthalmometry after surgery and the correlations among clinical parameters. A total of 22 cases (30 eyes) were included in the study. After orbital decompression, visual acuities improved in 16 eyes, declined in 8 eyes, and had no change in 5 eyes. Best-corrected visual acuity was significantly improved (0.1 vs 0.4, P = .039) and exophthalmometry was significantly declined (22.0 mm vs 16.5 mm, P = .001) after orbital decompression. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical features between nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and optic neuritis (ON) in Chinese patients. The clinical features of 23 cases (23 eyes) of NAION and 62 cases (80 eyes) of ON, including their general conditions, manifestations, auxiliary examinations were retrospectively compared. Simultaneous onset of bilateral eye (29.03% vs. 0%, p=0.009) and pain on movement of the eyes (23.75% vs. 0%, p=0.022) were more common in ON patients in comparison to NAION patients. The proposed platform can support info service to government or related department, help keep the balance and stabilization of energy supply.

Purpose: Dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON) is the most severe condition in thyroid eye disease (TED); however, no study has been conducted to assess quality of life in these patients to date. The aim of this study was to evaluate vision-related quality of life in TED patients with DON using a Chinese version of the 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (CHI-VFQ-25). Methods: The CHI-VFQ-25 scores were compared for 23 TED patients with DON and 13 TED patients without DON. The correlations between the clinical characteristics and subscale scores on the CHI-VFQ-25 and the floor and ceiling effects of the CHI-VFQ-25 were also assessed. Results: Patients with DON scored significantly lower than patients without DON on the CHI-VFQ-25 (composite score: 54 versus 77, respectively, p = 0.001). Many subscales were significantly correlated with the severity and activity of the disease (p50.05). In patients with DON, no floor effects were found, and ceiling effects were only observed for Color vision, Peripheral vision and Social function. Role limitations and Mental health were the lowest scores in all the subscales. Conclusions: The current study showed that vision-related quality of life tended to be more severely impaired in TED patients with DON than in patients without DON. The CHI-VFQ-25 may be a promising tool to estimate the benefits of interventions in patients with DON.

The air flow and temperature variation in the subway tunnel are different in the railway tunnel. Its necessary to study the middle vent shaft in subway tunnel ventilation system. According to the primary design documents of one subway line in Chengdu, the paper sets up the metros geometric model which is used in the SES program and also does the simulation analysis of the biggest transportation capacity in the line. The simulation mainly analyzes the adoption of the middle vent shaft which is located in the running tunnel between the station A and B. Meanwhile it also analyzes the influence of middle vent shaft on the nearby piston vent shaft, the wall surface temperature and the air temperature in the tunnel. Finally it takes temperature as the estimated index, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the middle vent shaft and makes the theoretic accounts for the design. The comprehensive analysis is that this middle vent shaft could be canceled.

In order to accurately analyze the result, which comes from quantitative and qualitative detection based on gamma energy spectrum of NaI(T1) detector, peak boundary has become one of the main factors which influence the spectrum analysis. By implementing some common boundary determining algorithms in the Matlab such as simple comparison method, derivative method, symmetry zero-area method, the full width method and gaussian function fitting method, as well as comparing effectiveness among those algorithm, priority of those boundary algorithms is evaluated. At the same time, because the boundary determining algorithm based on traditional gaussian fitting is not ideal, the new boundary determining algorithm based on the least squares fitting of gaussian function with weighting factor is proposed. The practice verifies that this method is stability and can obtain preferable convergence result in boundary determining of unimodal or combination peaks.

The system matrix plays an important role in the improvement of medical image reconstruction quality in iterative reconstruction. It consists of a certain sequence of projection coefficients. Projection coefficients indicate the radiological path through a tow-dimensional grid array which is constructed based on the reconstructed image. It is a common geometric problem of evaluating the radiological path through the grid array. This paper identifies the inefficient aspect of the traditionally precise evaluation of the radiological path. A new accurate and simple algorithm is presented, which considers that the projection coefficients can be shown in two-dimensional way. Experimental results based on GATE (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission) simulating PET (Positron Emission Tomography) imaging shows that the proposed algorithm is efficient to build up a system matrix, and the image can be reconstructed by the system matrix.

Image quality assessment has broad applications in many fields, how to assess the quality of the image is an attractive research topic. In this paper, a ROIMDE method is proposed based on region of interest (ROI) and dual-scale edge structure similarity (SSIM), the quality assessment of the image is a weighted combination of ROI and non-ROI, the dual-scale edge structure similarity is used in ROI, and the classical structure similarity is applied in non-ROI. Experimental results show that, considering the influence of ROI, our model is more consistent with human subjective visual evaluation.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system and impacts substantially on patients. MS lesions are visible in conventional magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI) and the automatic segmentation of MS lesions enables the efficient processing of images for research studies and in clinical trials. A new method for the segmentation of MS white matter lesions (WML) on cMRI is presented in this paper. Firstly the Kernel Fuzzy C-Means Clustering (KFCM) is applied to the preprocessed T1-weight (T1-w) image for extracting the white matter (WM) region. Then region growing algorithm is applied to the WM region image to make a binary mask which is then superimposed on the corresponding T2-weight (T2-w) image to yield a masked image only containing WM structures and lesions. The KFCM is then reapplied to the masked image to obtain MS lesions. The testing results show that the proposed method is able to segment WML on cMRI automatically and effectively.

The Qinling Group was previously interpreted as the oldest Precambrian basement unit of the North Qinling Terrain, recording its formation and early crustal evolution. The Qinling Group consists predominantly of gneisses, amphibolites, and marbles, which underwent multi-phase deformation and metamorphism. In order to better constrain the provenance and tectonic setting of this group and the evolution of the North Qinling orogenic belt, in situ U–Pb dating and oxygen isotopic analysis of zircons in combination with whole-rock geochemistry and Sr–Nd isotope analysis was performed on the two dominant rock types, amphibolite and felsic gneiss. Felsic gneisses exhibit enrichment of LREEs and LILEs (Rb, Ba, Th, K, Pb), negative Eu anomalies and depletion of HFSEs (Nb, Ta, P, Ti). The rocks have slightly elevated δ18O values (6.5–9.3 ‰) and initial e Nd values of −4.6 corresponding to two-stage Nd model age of 1.99 Ga. Amphibolites are also enriched in LILEs and LREEs and depleted in Nb and Ta and have homogeneous δ18O values (5.0–6.0 ‰), but higher initial e Nd values (2.8–3.3) and younger two-stage Nd model ages (1.29–1.24 Ga) compared to the gneisses. The zircon age record indicates that the gneisses and amphibolites were formed in a ~960 Ma volcanic arc environment rather than in a rift setting as previously suggested. A major metamorphic event took place during the Early Paleozoic. Based on the age spectrum of detrital zircons, the Qinling Group is interpreted as an autonomous geological unit, which was mainly derived mostly from 1,000 to 900 Ma old granitoid rocks. The North Qinling Terrain can be regarded as a remnant of the Grenville orogenic belt with an early Neoproterozoic evolution different from that of the North and South China blocks.

The eastern Qinling belt is characterized by widespread Mesozoic post-orogenic magmatism and abundant Mo–(Au–Ag) polymetallic mineralization. Most Mo deposits in this belt are genetically related to Mesozoic granitoids. The tectonic context of this close spatial and temporal relationship is still debated. This study reports U–Pb ages and Hf isotopic composition of zircons, major and trace element and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic composition of the Donggou granite porphyry, host rock to one of the important Mesozoic Mo deposits in this orogen. Based on geochemical results, the Donggou granite porphyry is a silica-supersaturated, high-K metaluminous A-type granite showing enrichment in light REEs, depletion in middle REEs and significant negative Eu, Ba, Nb, Sr, P, and Ti anomalies. Aim To determine whether gypenosides have protective effects in experimental autoimmune optic neuritis (EAON). Methods Mice were randomly divided into seven groups: control group, model group, three different density gypenosides monotherapy, methylprednisolone monotherapy, combination of gypenosides and methylprednisolone group. The control group was subcutaneously injected with oil emulsion adjuvant and all other groups were subcutaneously immunized with an emulsified mixture of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) 35-55 peptide to induce EAON. Mice in the gypenosides groups were administered injections daily with three concentrations (15 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, 45 mg/kg) of gypenosides respectively. Mice in the methylprednisolone group and the combination treatment group were injected daily with methylprednisolone (20 mg/kg) or methylprednisolone (20 mg/kg) + gypenosides (30 mg/kg), respectively. After MOG immunization, visual evoked potential (VEP), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and histopathologic examination were performed at 14, 20, 30, and 40d post-inoculation (p.i.). All results were expressed as mean±SEM. The data were evaluated by one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey or Games-Howell test. Results Compared with the control group, p2 latency was prolonged in the model group (P=0.041). Combination treatment can alleviated the change in VEP at 20d p.i. (P=0.012). Average peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness was reduced in the model group (P=0.000, 30d; P=0.000, 40d) and gypenosides treatment remarkably diminished the degree of RNFL degeneration at 30d and 40d p.i (P=0.000, 30d; P=0.000, 40d). The pathomorphological results showed a decrease in demye-lination (P=0.020) and inflammatory reactions in the combination group compared with the model group (20d p.i.). Gypenosides treatment also alleviated the degree of axonal loss (40d p.i.) (P=0.003). Conclusion Treatment with gypenosides exerts protective effects on retinal nerve fibers and axons in EAON. When combined with gypenosides, methylprednisolone reduces demyelination in the acute stage of EAON.

In this paper, polystyrene-based monoliths with highly ordered macroporous structure were synthesized by using SiO2 colloidal crystal as template. SEM observation shows that the macropores are highly ordered and are interconnected by small windows. The BET surface area of PS monolith is about 36.17 m2/g. The polymer monoliths can resist 5 MPa pressure, showing high mechanical and compressive strength.

The paper describes the enhanced separation of o-, m-, p-dihydroxybenzene by capillary electrochromatography (CEC) using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as stationary phase. The effect of the AuNPs concentration upon separation was investigated. The experimental parameters, including separation voltage, pH, and concentration of running buffer, were optimized. Under the optimum conditions, a good resolution of three dihydroxybenzene isomers was obtained within 15 min in a 50 cm effective length capillary modified with 0.02 nmol/L AuNPs at a separation voltage of 16 kV in a 50 mmol/L acetate buffer (pH 5.0). The linear ranges were from 10(-6) to 10(-4) mol/L and the detection limits were as low as 10(-7) mol/L. This method was successfully used to analysis two kinds of hair coloring agent sample with recoveries in the range of 90-105% and relative standard deviations (RSD) less than 5.0%.

Amyloid β peptide plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Transition metals, such as Cu(II), Zn(II), and Fe(III) are found in Aβ plaques, and they have been shown to affect Aβ aggregation. Here we investigated the interactions between metal ions and Aβ1–16 by a flow-injection surface plasmon resonance spectrometry (SPR). Our study revealed that both Zn(II) and Cu(II) promoted human Aβ1–16 conformation change but the Zn(II)-induced conformation change is greater. However, rat Aβ1–16 binds Zn(II) less avidly and hardly any conformation change, this may due to three point substitutions, R5G, Y10F, and H13R in rat Aβ1–16 which appear to alter the physicochemical properties of the peptide.

This study assessed the diversity and composition of bacterial communities in four different soils (human-, penguin-, seal-colony impacted soils and pristine soil) in the Fildes Region (King George Island, Antarctica) using 454 pyrosequencing with bacterial-specific primers targeting the 16S rRNA gene. Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Acidobacteria, and Verrucomicrobia were abundant phyla in almost all the soil samples. The four types of soils were significantly different in geochemical properties and bacterial community structure. Thermotogae, Cyanobacteria, Fibrobacteres, Deinococcus-Thermus, and Chlorobi obviously varied in their abundance among the 4 soil types. Considering all the samples together, members of the genera Gaiella, Chloracidobacterium, Nitrospira, Polaromonas, Gemmatimonas, Sphingomonas, and Chthoniobacter were found to predominate, whereas members of the genera Chamaesiphon, Herbaspirillum, Hirschia, Nevskia, Nitrosococcus, Rhodococcus, Rhodomicrobium, and Xanthomonas varied obviously in their abundance among the four soil types. Distance-based redundancy analysis revealed that pH (p < 0.01), phosphate phosphorus (p < 0.01), organic carbon (p < 0.05), and organic nitrogen (p < 0.05) were the most significant factors that correlated with the community distribution of soil bacteria. To our knowledge, this is the first study to explore the soil bacterial communities in human-, penguin-, and seal- colony impacted soils from ice-free areas in maritime Antarctica using high-throughput pyrosequencing.
