BackgroundBreast cancer, identified as the most prevalent cancer worldwide, presents considerable difficulties in advanced stages, especially when involving metastatic spread. Scalp metastasis from breast cancer represents a rare and insufficiently explored occurrence. This paper seeks to illuminate this uncommon manifestation by presenting two cases of scalp metastatic breast cancer in Chinese women.Case reportCase 1: A 45-year-old Chinese woman with a history of invasive ductal carcinoma presented with a scalp lesion indicative of recurrence. Concurrently, she was diagnosed with bone metastases and recurrence at the original site. Despite undergoing various treatments, including chemotherapy and hormonal therapy, her condition worsened, ultimately leading to her passing. Case 2: A 40-year-old Chinese woman was initially diagnosed with bilateral breast invasive mucinous carcinoma presenting with bilateral breast masses and a scalp lesion. She also had multiple bone metastases. Following chemotherapy and hormonal therapy, her disease stabilized.ConclusionThese cases of scalp metastatic breast cancer underscore the complexities involved in managing advanced stages of the disease, especially with rare metastatic manifestations. They highlight the importance of comprehensive diagnostic methods, encompassing full-body skin evaluations, and draw attention to the socioeconomic challenges faced in cancer treatment. These findings point to the necessity for more targeted research on uncommon metastatic forms in breast cancer aiming to enhance patient outcomes and refine management approaches.

Lily (Lilium Asiatica Hybrida) is a globally known perennial herbaceous bulbous flower, popular for its large, colourful flowers and high economic and ornamental value. However, pollen generation is a severe issue that reduces the cosmetic value of lilies. In this study, the MADS transcription factor LiAG1 was isolated and identified from the Lilium Asiatica Hybrida ‘Ice Pink Queen’, a male-sterile variety obtained through several years of hybridisation in our laboratory. qRT-PCR revealed that LiAG1 expression was greater in lily anthers, especially during the half-opening stage. The transient expression in tobacco demonstrated that LiAG1 was located in the nucleus. In the ‘Ice Pink Queen’ lily, suppression of LiAG1 using TRV-VIGS (tobacco-rattle-virus-mediated virus-induced gene silencing) resulted in the disappearance of most of the tapetum layer and the absence of the microsporangia. Overexpression of LiAG1 in transgenic Arabidopsis and tobacco resulted in narrower and more involute leaves, plant dwarfing, earlier blooming, and better pollen viability. Overall, our results suggested that LiAG1 might play an important role in flower development, especially anther development, of Lilium Asiatica Hybrida ‘Ice Pink Queen’.

Reverse logistics (RL) of automobiles has received wide attention in recent years with the innovation of resource utilization and the increase of environmental awareness. Many research papers have been published in the RL discipline focusing on the automotive industry. However, no review article is available on product-specific issues. To bridge this gap, 91 papers published in the Web of Science (WOS) database between January 2013 and March 2023 were selected and analyzed using content analysis to classify the articles into survey, evaluation, decision making, framework, modeling and review. The main findings of this paper are as follows: (1) Research on RL activities has mainly focused on recycling and remanufacturing, and insufficient research has been conducted on activities such as dismantling and waste management. (2) In terms of research objects, End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) and automotive batteries have received a lot of attention, while less research has been done on automotive tires, engines, waste oil, etc., which need further attention. (3) Integrated economic, environmental and social considerations are research opportunities for future evaluation and decision making. (4) The establishment of multi-objective problems and the innovation of solution methods may be the future research direction. (5) Green and sustainability themes are the main trends in the development of RL in the automotive industry in the future.

Stock enhancement can effectively increase population sustainablility and improve fishery resources, making it crucial to discern the suitable habitats for stock enhancement based on efficiency considerations. In this paper, a comprehensive model was established to simulate environmental characteristics in the Liaodong Bay. A habitat suitability model was developed by considering the optimal growth conditions of the Portunus trituberculatus larvae (PTL). The coupled model showed that the optimal area for stock-enhancement with PTL occurs in late June, and the initial suitable habitat area identified represents 17.12% of the whole Liaodong Bay. Based on the larval migration model of PTL, the deviation between the larvae and the suitable habitat, as well as the actual available area for stock enhancement, were further determined after larval release in the initial suitable habitat. Only 33.67% of the larvae fulfilled the criteria of remaining within the suitable habitat for 95% of the time, and these larvae represented 6.19% of the whole area of Liaodong Bay. These findings means that the truly area available for stock enhancement is likely to be a very small portion of the entire bay, and more precise release of larvae will be necessary to ensure survival rates after release. Our study actually provides a methodological framework for the identification of suitable environment of stock enhancement. This methodology can provide technical guidance for the stock enhancement of marine larvae with same applicability for other bays, which in turn contributes to the sustainable use of marine ecosystem services and fisheries resources.

Exogenous methyl jasmonate (MeJA) application has shown promising effects on plant defense under diverse abiotic stresses. However, the mechanisms underlying MeJA-induced stress resistance in bananas are unclear. Therefore, in this study, we treated banana plants with 100 μM MeJA before inducing osmotic stress using mannitol. Plant phenotype and antioxidant enzyme activity results demonstrated that MeJA improved osmotic stress resistance in banana plants. Thereafter, to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying MeJA-induced osmotic stress resistance in banana seedlings, we conducted high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) using leaf and root samples of “Brazilian” banana seedlings treated with MeJA for 0 h and 8 h. RNA-seq analysis showed that MeJA treatment upregulated 1506 (leaf) and 3341 (root) genes and downregulated 1768 (leaf) and 4625 (root) genes. Then, we performed gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses on the differentially expressed genes. We noted that linoleic acid metabolism was enriched in both root and leaf samples, and the genes of this pathway exhibited different expression patterns; 9S-LOX genes were highly induced by MeJA in the leaves, whereas 13S-LOX genes were highly induced in the roots. We also identified the promoters of these genes, as the differences in response elements may contribute to tissue-specific gene expression in response to MeJA application in banana seedlings. Overall, the findings of this study provide insights into the mechanisms underlying abiotic stress resistance in banana that may aid in the improvement of banana varieties relying on molecular breeding.

Abstract Background PDZ-binding kinase/T-lymphokine-activated killer cell-derived protein kinase (PBK/TOPK) is a potential prognostic indicator for patients with breast cancer. The objective of the present study was to explore the relationship between PBK/TOPK expression and clinicopathological indicators as well as the survival of patients with breast cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of PBK/TOPK in 202 cases of breast cancer tissues. The relationship between PBK/TOPK and clinicopathological parameters was evaluated using Spearman’s rank-order correlation. The difference in PBK/TOPK expression among different molecular types was analyzed with the chi-square test. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to create a survival curve and the log rank test was used to analyze the overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Prognostic correlation was assessed using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Results Among 202 breast cancer samples, PBK/TOPK was expressed (“+” and “++”) in 182 samples (90.1%). In addition, the histological grade, TNM stages, lymph node metastasis, estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2), and Ki-67 were positively associated with PBK/TOPK expression. With regard to the molecular type, the expression of PBK/TOPK is different. The expression level of PBK/TOPK was negatively correlated with both the OS and DFS of breast cancer patients. The difference in the above results is meaningful (P < 0.05). Conclusions PBK/TOPK is overexpressed in breast cancer, and the expression is closely related to the clinicopathological characteristics of the disease. Breast cancer patients with high expression of PBK/TOPK have a poor prognosis. Therefore, healthcare providers can optimize breast cancer management using this indicator.

Abstract Through a case study of the Chinese traditional music world, this study explores how artists in different specializations within an art world working on an indigenous art form make sense of divergent aesthetics. By adopting both Becker’s (Art worlds: 25th anniversary edition, updated and expanded, University of California Press, Berkeley, 2008) view of art worlds as substantially existing communities shared by artistic individuals and Bourdieu’s (Poetics 12(4–5):311–356, 1983) emphasis on artistic divergences stemming from broader social structures, I build a theoretical framework regarding how implicit aesthetic conflicts coexist with explicit collaborations in an art world. Under the impact of cultural globalization, the Chinese traditional music world’s conventions have experienced a historical revolution. Since then, music performers enact frames to defend the aesthetics that they consider “traditional” that emphasize stability in terms of the musical content but that have highly idiosyncratic styles of performance. However, other types of musicians—namely those involved in composing, conducting, theoretical research—are more likely to enact frames defending aesthetics that express a willingness to “Westernize” based on their understandings and emphasize on innovation in terms of musical content and systematic and routinized styles of performance. Their framings shape their different reactions to their art world’s conventions. By analyzing this process, I show how local–global dynamics constitute aesthetic conflicts in an art world that is often considered highly local and traditional.

The purpose of this study is to develop a new remote sensing method to assess the area of cultivated land illegally converted to nurseries and orchards in the Yangtze River Delta region of China over the past 40 years (1980–2020), and then estimate the increase in grain yield based on this area. Our result showed that 2.23 × 104 km2 of cultivated land was reduced by 11.8% over the past 40 years. About 14,521.40 km2 of cultivated land was converted to nursery and orchard from 1980 to 2020. The conversion area was unevenly distributed among different administrative regions. Zhejiang and Anhui Provinces had higher conversion rate and area than Jiangsu Province and Shanghai Municipalities. After the illegal nurseries and orchards return to cultivated land, if rotation farming mode is adopted, in which each grain crop is planted only once a year, the increased production of rice, wheat, corn, beans and tubers will reach (632.57 ± 13.08) × 104, (0~531.05 ± 33.25) × 104, (0~556.19 ± 30.36) × 104, (0~249.85 ± 13.14) × 104 and (0~489.11 ± 28.14) × 104 tons at most in each year, respectively. Our results provide theoretical guidance for implementing food security policies and alleviating contradiction between grain production and rural labor shortages in the Yangtze River Delta region.
