By revisiting the narrative of “I couldn’t say ‘no’ to participating,” this study explores the concept of autonomy in disaster research ethics. While conventional research ethics have been grounded on the Kantonian conception of autonomy, it has caused friction with the practical settings of disaster studies. Accordingly, the author proposes a new perspective on autonomy called as “context-informed autonomy.” It requires to ensure the perceived feasibility of nonparticipation choice for the research subject, with taking into consideration his/hers situatedness which entails the things beyond his/hers control.,

In the Edo period, Japan limited trade with foreign countries to China and Japanese orchids through Nagasaki in Kyushu. The merchant ship, Chinese Junks that arrived in Nagasaki from Gangnam in China was called the Nanjing ship. The Nanjing ship came from the port of Changjiang Exit instead of the current Nanjing. In particular, it can be seen that most of the Nanjing vessels that arrived in Nagasaki after the Qing Dynasty's Great Clearance came from Shanghai. Therefore, I would like to talk about the Sino-Japanese trade that developed between Shanghai and Nagasaki in the early Qing dynasty.,

As the most important outcome of the social interaction between ITO Jinsai and YAMAGATA Munefusa, the article 論語父在觀其志章解 from the Collection Works of Ito Jinsai is taken by this paper as a clue to sort out the biographies of the three brothers of jigekanjin Munefusa and their communication with Jinsai. Specifically, this paper presents an overview of the content of the article 論語父在觀其志章解 and investigates the similarities and differences between it and the same chapter of the second Volume of Jinsai’s main work 論語古義. As a conclusion, this paper indicates that Jinsai held a significant interest in ritual studies during the Kanbun, and one of the causes of this interest was exactly the social interaction between Jinsai and jigekanjin. This paper offers a different image of Jinsai from the previous studies and therefore provides a different perspective for the Jinsai study.

6. About the derivativeness of transportation demand
- Subjects
public transport ,socioeconomics ,関西大学 ,transportation economics ,elemental demand ,Kansai University ,derived demand - Abstract
In textbooks on transportation economics, it is always mentioned that transportation demand is not elemental but derived demand. People use transportation means to achieve their elemental purpose such as commuting, studying, or sightseeing. Transport is just a tool. So, transport demand depends on several elements such as population, population composition, economic activities, and land development plan. In this paper, it will be discussed two points about the term derived demand. First is, in consideration of severe situations of public transport operators especially in rural areas in Japan, elemental demand conditions such as aging or population are not mentioned or ignored. Only the responsibility of transport operators came up for discussion. Second is, in the early phase, it is described in transportation economics text that also transport demand is derived one, it has an important role for economy and society. It is the socioeconomically way of thinking, and the provision of transport infrastructure and supply of transport services are indispensable to modern society. But the basic way of thinking about transportation economics is changed to microeconomics, in recent texts socioeconomically basic concept is not given an account in transportation economics. We have to reconfirm that it is important in the field of transportation economics to consider the socioeconomic basic concept.

Naitō Konan (1866-1934) was an Oriental historian and Sinologist, who was representative in Japan from the Meiji era to the early Shōwa era. Depending on Seigaku tōzen (西学東漸), that Japanese accepted Western science and culture aggressively at that time, Konan regarded the importance of the study of Chinese history and Kaozheng (考証). He especially succeeded the research methods of China's Qian Jia School (乾嘉学派), and founded the Kyoto School of Sinology with Kuwabara Jitsuzō and Kano Naoki. Different from the Tokyo School of Historiography, they emphasized an unique historical research and system which depended on Kaozheng, and therefore trained many of researchers. Notwithstanding Konan produced important influence concerning the Cultural history of Chinese, the relative research of his study on the History of Epigraphy has not yet progressed competitively. This article purposes to investigate the transition and expansion of Konan's study on the History of Epigraphy by using the text such as Enzan-sosui (燕山楚水) Sinchō-shi tsūron (清朝史通論), and Sina shigaku-shi (支那史学史)., 内田慶市教授古稀記念号

Since the middle ages, written texts based on the Book of Songs, The Analects of Confucius, Mencius, University, Anthology, and Collection of Bai's Anthropology have been an important way for Japanese to learn towa. In Japan, there is a wave of learning towa. At first, when towa was introduced to Japan during the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was a foreign language that was difficult for the local public to understand. However, the study of towa was all the rage after learning from Japanese scholars, Tang Tongshi, and local people. This article attempts to analyze the borrowing of Okajima Kanzan's towa in the "Wato Chinkai" , on the basis of the advance researches.,

Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) was established in 2008, amalgamating the ARAIC (Air and Rail Accident Investigation Commission) and a part of the MAIA (Marine Accident Investigation Agency). This organizational change was necessitated by the entry into force of the amendments of the IMO (International Maritime Organization)’s SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Convention, which made certain parts of the Marine Safety Investigation Code mandatory. In this article, the author tries to describe and evaluate the performances of the JTSB since its foundation according to the criteria as to the safety investigation set by Professor Seiji Abe. The author finds it largely satisfactory and draws attention to the remarkable changes made in the field of marine safety investigation and improvements made after a scandal in the other modes as well, although certain issues of fundamental nature remain unsolved, which is inherent to the Japanese legal system waiting to be explored by the society as a whole.

The “Prevailing at Shanghai” was proposed by the Minche Viceroy Xu Yingkuei, when he opened a settlement in Kulangsu. Xu’s original intention was to establish an “International Settlement” to guarantee the stability of the area, based on the security system of the Great Powers who had jointly defended Shanghai. The British and Germans demanded that Kulangsu maintain the authority system of the “Foreign Settlement” in Shanghai. In order to maintain relations with the Powers, Japan had to overcome the special problems of the settlement, such as the expansion of the Powers, the ethnocentric ideology and the legal status of the oversea Chinese. The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs however, through the Amoy Consul, had intended to expand its capital and build up its power through the use of Taiwan Chinese, but its own interests prevented it from fully absorbing the active policy. In contrast to the British Consul who sticks to the Shanghai experience and the influence on Shanghai, the Japanese Consul often suspects the Shanghai experience, emphasising the “local condition” and resorting to the Diplomatic Corps.

The Kantei faith in China developed greatly during the Song-Yuan Dynasty, and the imperial court's posthumous rank became a "King" through the "Hou" and "public". The form of Guan Yu has been fixed with the development of literary works such as storytellings, ghost novels, Yuan Zaju operas, Yuanqu, and novels. Although the Yuan dynasty's Guan Yu paintings are slightly different in shape, the Danfeng eyes, Jujube face, and long beard is already established at this time. However, the statue of the Kantei, which is said to have been handed down from the Chinese Yuan Dynasty, is different from this one. The purpose of this paper is to, through the analysis of the Severnt God and those belongings, compare the shape of Kantei in Chinese Song-Yuan Dynasty, the depiction of storytelling in the works of literature and the statue of Kantei of the DaikoJi Temple, and to examine the image of the Kantei in the DaikoJi Temple, which is said to be the oldest in Japan.,

, People who enter the "Zone" are said to have "sharpened kansei." The Zone is a psychological state that evokes superhuman performance with high concentration. Kansei means inner intelligence or inner sense. This study reports on the kansei education method, which prepares students to enter the Zone and has been practiced in university education in Japan experimentally, recalling the efforts that have been practiced in some classes at Stanford University, which has many world-class athletes participating in competitive sports. The kansei method has six potential processes: (1) "I feel" work, using the intuitive aspect of kansei; (2) "onomatopoeia work," creating and using onomatopoeias that are considered effective in improving performance in sports; (3) the "Murphy-Shigematsu Mindful Meditation Method," practiced in psychology classes at Stanford University; (4) the "Zone narrative," where participants who have experienced the Zone freely talk about their Zone experiences and answer questions from an interviewer and audience; (5) "Jugyuzu work," wherein the participants develop the narrative of an athlete's process of entering the Zone (or their competitive life) using the Jugyuzu and present their ideas on it; and (6) the "Happy Project," wherein the participants practice altruism with the goal of increasing others' happiness. These processes may not only be applicable to athletes who need to deepen their essential understanding about the Zone but also to people who are interested in other fields and working adults interested in kansei.,

In addition to damage to facilities, interruption of routes, and inconvenience to passengers, railway accidents are likely to cause serious injuries and threaten life and property. We should make every effort to prevent these unpleasant events. More importantly, lessons should be learnt from every accident to identify the mistakes and make improvements to prevent the same tragedy from happening again. This study reviews the history of railway accident investigation in Taiwan and the current status of accident investigation mechanisms for different railway/metro systems, such as conventional railway, high-speed rail, and metro systems. We compare and discuss representative accidents at different stages to demonstrate the variances in investigation body, independence, resources, quality, and countermeasures. The investigation quality and resources for railway accidents have remarkably improved over time, but further enhancements are needed to resolve issues in the current mechanism. Existing issues are presented at the end of the article to provide further improvements in the railway accident investigations in Taiwan.

Around the 19th century, stylistic reforms occurred almost simultaneously in China and Japan. The division of words was considered to hinder the modernization of both countries, and movements were made in both countries to criticize classical languages and advocate spoken sentences. However, recognition of the language should not be limited to written or colloquialism, and it is necessary to pay attention to the language itself and turn to social perspective. Writer analyzes the early modern proclamations of both China and Japan based on the "formal language" theory of Feng Shengli, and interpreted that official documents showing a tendency to simplify in order to meet the demands of the times were limited from classical languages because of the standpoint of being "formal language", and tried a non-literary approach to studying early modern language of China and Japan.,

Fukada Chokujo, a native of Ohmi province and later active mostly in Osaka, was a Japanese-style painter who studied the Shijo School. In view of modern artists' realistic paintings, this paper introduces Fukada's works of paintings and sketches. The author discusses how he was characterized as a realistic style painting artist. For comparison, works of the great contemporary artists such as Takeuchi Seiho in Kyoto and Kano Hougai in Tokyo are also referenced. While Fukada followed traditional Japanese realistic tastes in his paintings, he added a Western style of expression to his work. His aim was to introduce a new realistic method of expression, and in doing so, make an impression to his viewers of a three-dimensional view. Such a three-dimensional style, or what we call "stereoscopic effects" , were enhanced in the new style of his works, bridging the gap since the Edo era between the Maruyama School and the Shijo School. Later in life, he left Kyoto, where many active artists lived, and moved his residence to Osaka. His name then lost popularity and was forgotten gradually as time passed. However, his new unique technique of a three-dimensional expression in his realistic paintings should still be appreciated. If we imagine that Fukada Chokujo in Osaka had been inspired and affected by Kano Hogai in Tokyo, we could say, as one good example, that the Osaka style (West) met the Tokyo style (East) in the realm of modern realistic painting arts in Japan.,

For a long time, Lu Xun's work has been influential in Japan. It is still debatable whether each Japanese translation of Lu Xun's works is faithful to the author Lu Xun's will. This essay researches into Wataru Masuda, one of the students of Lu Xun whose handwriting notes in Guxiang, which collected in the Masuda Library of Kansai University Library, Japan. While referring to these notes, examine the Japanese translation status of Lu Xun's work Guxiang recorded in Japanese textbooks. Based on the memo of Masuda who took Lu Xun's private lecture, it was possible to find a more objective translation format after clearly judging whether each typical Japanese translation was mistranslated or inappropriate or not. In 1930, Aoki Masaru published The History of Modern Chinese Opera after Wang Guowei’s The History of Opera in Ming and Qing Dynasties. This work is mainly composed of two papers, From Kunqu Opera to Beijing Opera (1926) and The Evolution from Southern Opera to Northern Opera (1928). Aoki’s two papers and works were translated into Chinese as soon as they were published and widely disseminated in China. According to the author’s investigation, there are three kinds of these translations published in magazines, two in the form of pamphlets and as many as seven in the form of books. By comparing the Chinese translation with the original, this paper finds that all the early translations are faithful to the original works, except that Zheng Zhen added a large number of his own views to the translated work at will. However, most of these translations use the words of Chinese characters in the original works directly, which makes the translation more rigid. It can be said that Aoki’s work has a great influence on the empirical study of the history of modern Chinese opera.

The history of compiling Chinese-Japanese dictionaries in Japan is very long. By viewing the development of Chinese-Japanese dictionaries in Japan, we can find out that although there are a large number of Chinese-Japanese dictionaries, there are few differences in the compilation concepts and methods. Especially at the end of Meiji period, although there were a large number of Chinese-Japanese dictionaries in circulation, the common problem of these dictionaries was that the retrieval methods and the vocabulary collected were relatively old, which gradually could not meet the needs of Chinese learners at that time. It was not until the publication of 《支那語辭彙》 in 1904 that the deadlock was truly broken and the Chinese-Japanese dictionary made a great step forward towards modernization. Ishiyama Fukuji was one of the most important figures in modern Japan, and his greatest contribution in his life was undoubtedly the compilation of《支那語辭彙》.《支那語辭彙》 is the first Chinese-Japanese dictionary based on Beijing Mandarin after the transformation of Japanese education system to Beijing Mandarin and also the first Chinese-Japanese dictionary based on the Chinese-English dictionary (《漢英合壁相連字彙》) compiled by Westerners. From the publication of 《支那語辭彙》 in 1904 to 《新支那大辭典》 in 1933, Ishiyama Fukuji spent 29 years to establish a complete dictionary system. This series of dictionaries also became the largest and clearest set of dictionaries in Japan in the early 20th century. This paper will discusses the compilation concept and method of 《支那語辭彙》, explores the innovation process of Japanese native Chinese-Japanese dictionaries, and makes further textual research on the role that G.C. After the Italian missionary Matteo Ripa (马国贤, 1682-1746) went back from China to his hometown Naples, he founded il Collegio dei Cinesi a Napoli to educate more missionaries who would go to China. Since father Ripa had been hiring Chinese teachers to teach Chinese before and after the founding of the school, more Chinese than Europeans had started writing Chinese textbooks. Former studies on Giuseppe Maria Kuo (郭栋臣, 1842-1923) and Francesco Saverio Wang (王佐才, 1842-1921)'s Chinese textbooks completed in this period were fragmented, in lack of comparisons among other textbooks. Based on some former studies, this paper analyzes Saggio di un corso di Cinese (华学进境) and the Latin Version of Classic Trimetric (三字经) compiled by a representative Chinese teacher Kuo, compared with some Chinese textbooks compiled by Europeans to find out the differences on their ways of thinking., 内田慶市教授古稀記念号

1ᵉʳ volume as the core and referring other French sinologists’ works as supplement, this paper studies the French sinologists’ interpretation of the composition of substantives in Chinese in the second half of 19ᵗʰ century. At the same time, this paper compares the views of Westerns with the view of Chinese linguists in the early 20ᵗʰ century to suggest the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western scholars’ understanding of Chinese word formation. We argue that Western scholars generally use word classes as the categorical basis when exploring constructions, and pay more attention to the meaning, lexicality, and variation of the components. However, Chinese linguists, except for Ma Jianzhong, who still insists on the approach of French sinologists, do not place much emphasis on the influence of word category on word formation, but focus more on the interrelationship between components. The influence of the French sinologists of the 19ᵗʰ century is almost non-existent.

Mitogaku is a controversial research in post-war. Not only because it's difficult to maintain objectivity for Japan's modern ideological research on the Japanese fascist period, but also because the relevance of Mitogaku though at each period is not always clear in the pass of the research history. This Article choose "A theory about Rectification of Names" ― a subject that can summarize each period of Mitogaku ― to refresh the recognition. To sum up, there is a dual character in this theory. After , many have expressed concern about the trade-off relationship between liberty and safety-security. To begin with, however, the relationship between liberty and safety-security is not just a simple trade-off, but a historically shifting and logically overlapping each other relationship. Historically, it has changed from “individuals on the basis of community safety” as a matter of fact to “community prioritizing personal safety and liberty” at least as an idea that constitutes human society. Logically, both liberty and safety-security were multifaceted and multilayered, with various relationships within themselves, sometimes mutually presuppose and complementary, sometimes trade-offs between the two. There is reason to focus attention on the trade-off relationship, but it needs to be discussed in the context of a holistic perspective. This paper examines this issue from the perspective of societal safety studies and identifies the possibilities and challenges to which societal safety studies can contribute.

Lin Shuhua (林淑華) is best known as the author of "Shengsilian (生死恋)" (1948). It is an autobiographical work by Lin and was serialized in the magazine "Kangli Monthly" at the end of the 1940s and was quite popular at that time. This article considers the creative activity of Lin Shuhua in relation to the magazine "Kangli Monthly" and its readers. In "Kangli Monthly", Lin Shuhua first appeared as a contributor, then as the author of "Shengsilian", and then as the host of "Kangli Xinxiang (伉儷信箱)", a column of readers' contributions, in which she sincerely answered the serious problems of life of the readers. This mutual relationship with readers also influenced Lin's creative activities. In the "Shengsilian" and "Zhufu zhi you (主婦之友)" she uses for example a letter style and a "call to someone", which are common in "Kangli Monthly," and this gave them a structure that facilitated the sympathy of readers., 本研究はJSPS科研費課題番号一八K一二三一三の助成を受けたものである。

The visual language that appears in a city is called a linguistic landscape, and includes billboards, warning signs, road signs, etc. In recent decades, it has become a hot topic of research in related disciplines. In addition, with the development of globalization, speakers of different languages move around the world and congregate. Especially in a cosmopolitan city such as Shanghai, thousands of foreigners converge every year, for a short visit, for work, for long-term residence, for study, or to live. As a result, the use of local languages has become multilingual, which is also reflected in the linguistic landscapes. As part of urban landscapes, there are some regulations or policies at the government level for the setting of linguistic landscapes. Through field research of the multilingual landscapes in some areas of Shanghai, this study finds that, except for most official multilingual landscapes, there are large differences between the multilingual landscape settings and government policies in communities; existing analytical frameworks for multilingual landscapes are not fully applicable to those using Chinese characters or kanji, and Japanese has more language power in multilingual landscapes.,

After the outbreak of the Revolution of 1911, all circles in Japan had different attitudes towards Chinese revolution. Besides, the revolutionary government had to contact frequently with these circles because of financial shortages. Against this background, the employees of Mitsui & Co, represented by Mori Kaku (森恪), took the initiative to closely consulted with the leaders of the revolutionary government, Sun Yat-sen (孙中山) and Huangxing (黄兴), on the Manchurian Lease ("满洲租借"). By investigating the negotiation among Sun Yat-sen, Huang Xing, Mori Gaku and so forth on the Manchukuo Lease, it can be found that Mori Kaku's early ideas, to expand national sovereignty, are the highest criterion for him to participate Chinese affairs. His in-law relationship with Masuda Takashi (益田孝) and the personal relationship between Masuda Takashi and Inoue Kaoru are important conditions to negotiate with Sun Yat-sen, Huang Xing and Inoue Kaoru (井上馨) under mutual trust. The fact that Mori Kaku negotiated with the Chinese side, Masuda Takashi communicated with the Japanese side, and Inoue Kaoru instigated within the senior levels is the key element of the negotiation system named "Manchurian Lease" which are formed on the basis of thees relationship.,

Tsze Tëèn Piào Mūh is a textbook used by westerners to learn Chinese characters radicals in the early 20th century. Many westerners have come to China extensively since the arrival of missionary Robert Morrison (1782-1834) in Guangzhou. To read Chinese classics and communicate with the Chinese people, learning Chinese characters became their essential task. Then, when they learn Chinese characters, they first learn about the head of the department. Therefore, Westerners attach great importance to the radical system. That’s when the book was written. The author Thomas Jenner uses the scientific associative mnemonics, and 214 radicals correspond to English keywords. These English keywords are related to voice and meaning and are written in a sentence. In addition, this book includes the written of Japanese Kana, dynasties, king’s names, and places of both China and Japan. It made a great contribution to Chinese linguists at that time and had a certain value in academic study and research.

, Due to the spread of the new coronavirus pandemic that began in the winter of 2020, university education is being forced to undergo major changes. Many universities in Japan have maintained the provision of educational opportunities through a mix of face-to-face, online, and hybrid classes. However, what has been revealed by these endeavors is the change in the tide of college education that had already occurred before the pandemic. Since the beginning of the 21st century, ICT has developed rapidly, making it possible to transmit knowledge beyond the constraints of space and time. There is a demand for a shift from knowledge transfer style education to education that nurtures practical knowledge in the real world. In order to respond to such changes, we have developed the "Kandai-style Experiential Learning Programs(K-ELP)" since 2013, which focuses on project-based learning in collaboration with local people. Taking into consideration the changes in the educational environment due to the coronavirus pandemic, we further developed this K-ELP as a new environmental education program in collaboration with people in Sakai City and Tanabe City. Funded by the 2019-2020 Kansai University Education and Research Advancement Promotion Fund, the new direction of the K-ELP has been explored both in theory and in practice. Specifically, we examine the pedagogical goal of experiential education and propose the phronesis in Aristotle's trinity of knowledge as a learning goal for college education, and project-based learning methods that promote learning in the community. Finally, we illustrate a new environmental education project which focuses on "diversity" and "reciprocity" as guidelines for practicing cooperation with local communities to solve common global issues to achieve the SDGs.,

Disasters cause economic and human losses. In order to mitigate the impact of disasters, there is now a global consensus amongst national and international actors that policies and programmes must be linked to support human existence. This global consensus is reflected in the 'Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2015-2030' and the 'Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030' (SFDRR). With this global consensus and the need to reduce disaster risks and disaster losses, there has been an increasing demand for specialised professionals and future leaders to understand the nuances of risk, crisis, disaster and development and their interfaces. However, what is yet to be seen is, how these global trends, national needs and everyday realities of the disaster-affected and vulnerable communities are integrated into professional development programmes taught within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Japan and the UK, to build the capacity of students and their leadership skills. The Universities of Kansai, Sheffield and Leicester undertook a joint research project (funded by Kansai University's Grant-in-Aid for the Promotion and Upgrading of Education and Research) from July 2017 to August 2018 to study and recommend a Future Leader Programme that might be required to improve students’ learning and leadership skills for the effective management of risk, crisis, disaster and development. Three objectives were set for this study: 1) To identity and map the number of courses/programmes on risk, crisis, disaster and development management (RCDDM) offered by the HEIs in the UK and Japan. 2) To identify indicators for a quality Future Leader Programme in line with the SDGs and SFDRR. 3) To engage with key stakeholders to validate the indicators and explore the meaning of a future leader. To realise these objectives qualitative methods were used to collect data from July 2017 to December 2018. This included mapping and reviewing of RCDDM Programmes and the Times Higher Education databases in the UK and the KAKEN database, developing indicators through a literature review on 'quality' education and a content analysis of the SDG and the SFDRR, and gathering opinions through two key stakeholders' workshops and several formal and informal interviews with students and academics. The findings suggest that as of October 2017, there were a total of 48 HEIs in the UK and 777 in Japan that offered courses/programmes in RCDDM. From the content analysis of the SDGs and the SFDRR, it was found that Goals 4, 11 and 13, and the SFDRR's Priorities for Actions 1 and 3 were the most relevant to identify indicators for a quality Future Leader Programme. These indicators were ratified by the stakeholders. The stakeholders defined a 'Future Leader' for RCDDM as an individual who brings about change to enrich life standards and communities' abilities to manage risks, crises, disasters and development through social influence. The findings also identify the topics and the type of courses that will be needed to develop a Future Leader Programme for RCCDM.

This paper focuses on Liang Shuming's research on Yogācāra-Vijñānavāda from the cultural interaction perspective and determines how Liang Shuming approached Yogācāra-Vijñānavāda by using a variety of sources in modern scholarship. Owing to Yang Wenhui's efforts at the end period of the Qing dynasty in importing Yogācāra-Vijñānavāda books from Japan that had been lost in the Yuan dynasty, there was a boom in Yogācāra-Vijñānavāda studies. Liang Shuming, as a Buddhist scholar and a teacher of Indian philosophy at Peking University at that time, approached Yogācāra-Vijñānavāda based on various materials, including the translation of Japanese scholar Inoue Enryō's works and The Six Systems of Indian Philosophy of Friedrich Max Müller. Through the study of these books, Liang Shuming tried to approach the essence of Yogācāra-Vijñānavāda. Sōrei shisetsu was authored by Sakuma Shōzan (1811-1864), a renowned philosopher during the Bakumatsu period. When his mother passed away in 1861, Shōzan attempted to bury her according to the Confucian practices outlined in Zhu Xi’s Jiali but had to give in to the dominant Buddhist funeral traditions in the end. Shōzan took this opportunity to contemplate Japanese funeral rituals, arguing the importance of replacing Buddhist conventions with Confucian ones. In my previous works on Shōzan’s Sōrei shisetsu, I closely examined its structure and political resonance, as well as authorial intent. To supplement my earlier studies, in this paper, I focus on the sections related to Chikan 治棺, Sakushu 作主, Shiseki 誌石, and Bohi 墓碑. The research findings of this paper will shed light on social perceptions of Zhu Xi’s Jiali during the Edo period.

Regarding the study of the “给” sentence in modern Beijing dialect, scholars mostly start from the “causative sentence”, “passive sentence” and “disposition sentence”. The reason is that the given verbs can also express causation, passivity, and disposition. There are currently two main viewpoints on the source of the passive “给”. One is that the passive marker “给” comes directly from the verb “given”, and the other is that the verb “给” with the meaning of “given” evolves into a passive marker through “causing”. In this paper, by examining the “给” sentences in the Manchu-Chinese Combination Textbooks, it is found that its development process is faster than that of the “给” sentences in the mainland materials. The reason can be attributed to the regional differences in the corpus. The part of the Chinese translation in the Manchu-Chinese Combination Textbooks materials was influenced by the Manchu language, which accelerated the development of the “给” sentence. The influence of the Manchu language provides a basis. At the same time, we have also seen the differences between the five Manchu-Chinese Combination Textbooks.
