Lusheng is a traditional wind musical instrument cherished by various ethnic minorities in China. The objective of this study is to investigate the role of Lusheng Chinese musical instruments in promoting literacy through educational functions and transmission. Conducted in Guizhou Province, a region rich in ethnic diversity, this study employs qualitative methods and engages two key informants who are local artisans with interview and observation forms. The data analysis reveals multifaceted insights into Lusheng's transmission and promotion. Findings highlight the challenges posed by modernization to traditional craftsmanship, emphasizing the urgency of preserving Lusheng production skills. The inclusion of Lusheng in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list and the establishment of educational programs in primary, and secondary schools, and universities underscore the government's commitment to safeguarding Lusheng culture. Moreover, the research underscores the transformative impact of modern media on Lusheng's dissemination, and cross-cultural engagement is recognized as vital for expanding its influence. Balancing tradition and innovation remains a challenge. The study suggests collaborative efforts among government, academia, and society to develop a comprehensive conservation strategy, ensuring the continued transmission and promotion of Lusheng culture.

The Poya Songbook, an integral part of Zhuang traditional culture, embodies rich music and folklore passed down through generations. This study aims to examine the historical development and literacy transmission of the Poya Songbook for education and literacy studies in Funing County, Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. Drawing upon a combination of ethnographic methods and semiotic analysis, the research delves into the intricate journey of the Poya Songbook, contrasting its state before and after the pivotal year 2006, when it received official recognition as an intangible cultural heritage. Three key informants, deeply rooted in the local cultural milieu, provide valuable insights into the songbook's transformation, its role in education, and the challenges of preserving its authenticity amidst modern influences. The data analysis discerns shifts in transmission methods, content, and performance, shedding light on the evolving relationship between tradition and cultural identity. The findings underscore the importance of balancing preservation with adaptation to ensure the continued vitality of this cherished cultural heritage. Suggestions for the sustained safeguarding of the Poya Songbook include innovative educational initiatives that integrate its teachings into contemporary curricula, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Zhuang cultural identity.

Nestled within the captivating landscapes of Guizhou Province, China, Shan'ge folk songs, a cherished tradition of the Yi ethnic group, embody a rich cultural heritage. This study aims to investigate the contemporary status of Shan'ge folk songs in Guizhou, with a focus on Panzhou County, Lupanshui City, and the Yi community, while proposing guidelines for their transmission through education and literacy initiatives. Nine key informants, including local musicians and community members, were interviewed, and field observations were conducted. Thematic coding and comparative analysis were employed to analyze the data. The result of this study shows that the enduring cultural significance of these songs, serving as cultural beacons, rituals, and oral history repositories, remains consistent, but challenges such as urbanization, changing lifestyles, and language shift threaten their transmission. We conclude by suggesting guidelines that encompass integrating Shan'ge folk songs into school curricula, fostering community-based learning, and leveraging digital tools to ensure their continuity. In embracing these strategies, Shan'ge folk songs can bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, honoring the past while safeguarding their future.

Chinese Sani folk songs, originating from the vibrant culture of the Sani people in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, represent a precious tapestry of musical heritage. This research aims to examine the preservation and promotion of cultural literacy through the education of Chinese Sani folk songs in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. Esteemed Sani scholars, composers, and song transmitters serve as key informants, providing valuable insights into the multifaceted process of preserving and promoting this cultural treasure. A mixed-methods approach is employed. Combining qualitative interviews and quantitative questionnaires, this research offers a comprehensive perspective on Sani folk song preservation. The results highlight the importance of education, legislative support, cultural promotion, and collaboration with universities in preserving Sani folk songs. Suggestions include the establishment of folk song learning workshops, youth education programs, the preservation of traditional living environments, and the creation of a Sani folk song database. Overall, this research underscores the urgency of safeguarding this unique cultural heritage and contributes to the global discourse on preserving endangered folk music traditions.

Suzhou Pingtan is a traditional Chinese opera originating from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, known for its melodic tunes, storytelling, and expressive performances. The objective of this study was to explore the transmission process of Suzhou Pingtan Chinese Opera in Jiangsu, China, and its impact on education and literacy. This study utilizes a combination of fieldwork, interviews, and questionnaires as research tools were used to gather data from three key informants, two main informants, and three general informants. The data collected are analyzed through qualitative methods, including content analysis and thematic analysis. The research findings reveal ten main modes of transmission, including the inclusion of Suzhou Pingtan in the national intangible cultural heritage list, the establishment of inheritors, the Suzhou Pingtan Art Festival, the enhancement of performance level and frequency, the development of Suzhou Pingtan School, the establishment of Suzhou Pingtan Museum, the expansion of performance venues, the integration into primary and secondary schools and universities, international transmission, and strong government support. The study suggests the importance of continued support for educational initiatives, the preservation of performance venues, and the cultivation of young audiences to ensure the sustainability and wider appreciation of Suzhou Pingtan.

Changde Sixian Opera is a cherished intangible cultural heritage traditional folk opera known for its vibrant melodies. The objective of this study is to propose guidelines for the literacy transmission of Changde Sixian Opera within schools and educational institutes. The study was conducted in Changde City, Hunan Province, and enlisted two key informants, including experienced Changde Sixian performers and educators. Employing a mixed-methods approach involving semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis, the study unearthed a multifaceted integration of Changde Sixian into primary and secondary education, higher education, community activities, television programming, and professional performance groups. The research findings underscore the importance of educational institutions in preserving and transmitting Changde Sixian Opera while emphasizing the need for ongoing strategies to address declining interest among younger generations, ensuring the continued vibrancy of this cultural treasure.

This study focuses on the literacy transmission guideline for preserving "Xin Tian You" folk songs in Northern Shaanxi, China. The purpose of the research is to explore effective strategies and approaches to enhance the transmission and preservation of this cultural heritage. Key informants for this study consist of scholar informants, casual informants, and general informants who possess knowledge and experience in "Xin Tian You" folk songs. The data analysis involves fieldwork, interviews, and questionnaires to gather qualitative data, which are analyzed to identify patterns and trends. The research findings highlight the impact of socio-cultural changes on the transmission and preservation of "Xin Tian You," as well as the importance of strengthening support, embracing innovation, preserving and disseminating the songs, increasing publicity, and media coordination. The study concludes that by implementing these strategies and fostering literacy transmission, "Xin Tian You" can be preserved and transmitted to future generations, contributing to the cultural heritage of Northern Shaanxi and the development of traditional folk music in China.

The Tu people of Northwestern China are a distinct indigenous group formed from descendants of the original Tuyuhun Kingdom with considerable cultural influence from Mongolian settlers, Tibetan invaders, and the dominant Han majority. This qualitative investigation of their musical culture shows how Tu music has retained linear characteristics of early folk songs, which have been combined with the musical concepts of surrounding ethnic groups. The research shows that the Tu people have absorbed cultural influences from surrounding ethnic groups that are similar to their own, and further reinforces the importance of ethnomusicology as a tool to chart the development of social groups. This investigation explores theories of motivation, conflict, and social exchange to assess the state of traditional culture competitions in Northeastern Thailand. First established as political and social tools for creating national unity, cultural competitions are now maintained to conserve and disseminate traditional culture. Judges use their own scoring standards and subjective global impression assessment, which causes conflict between judges and ensemble members. Research revealed that these are resolved quickly due to traditional cultural values in Thai education. The researchers interviewed a variety of people involved in the production of traditional "pong lang" competitions to examine their reasons for participation. Findings indicate that the main motivations for personnel within the education system and folk artists were experience and prestige. For sponsors, the primary motivations were financial. This study aims to analyse the shortcomings in the process of Erhu teaching and to provide some new ideas to improve the teaching quality in universities and colleges. The subject of this study is 'Erhu Pedagogy in Selected Music Colleges in Guizhou Province in China'. The erhu sound is pure and elegant, the technique is rich and varied, the emotional expression is round and delicate, and it contains profound traditional cultural connotations. It is one of the most representative musical performance instruments in China. The erhu performances of different nationalities and regions have their own characteristics, but they all have distinct and rich national styles and regional characteristics, and become an important carrier of people's emotional communication and ideological expression. The crystallisation of cultural and artistic wisdom condensed from life and production labour. However, with the continuous development of the erhu performing arts, higher demands were placed on the erhu performers and educators. The erhu teaching system in colleges and universities is relatively complete, but at the same time there are certain problems and there is much room for reform. Through the use of more scientific teaching concepts and teaching methods, breaking through the traditional teaching mode, innovative curriculum system, training mode, learning mode, teaching evaluation mechanism, the quality of erhu teaching in colleges and universities is gradually improved.
