This study aimed to compare the psychological functioning of people with different experiences with coronavirus infection in the second year of the pandemic (February-June 2021) and to explore the role of psychological inflexibility in the experienced level of distress. A total of 860 people (753 females, 429 COVID-19 convalescents) participated in this study. Results showed that people who experienced the hospitalization of a loved one reported higher levels of stress. On the other hand, people who had recovered from COVID-19 infections showed higher levels of anxiety but, interestingly, lower levels of stress compared to those who had not been infected with the coronavirus. Sequential mediation analysis revealed that psychological inflexibility had both direct and indirect effects on general distress, with the latter occurring via fatigue and subjective well-being. This study provided additional support for the importance of psychological flexibility in mental health, even during adverse times such as COVID-19 pandemic.

The poetry of Branko Radičević is filled with both lyrics honoring the joy of life and contemplations on death. Contrary to Jovan Skerlić's belief, the notion of death will not only serve as a marker in the early works of Radičević but will persist throughout many of his different phases. In addition to its constant presence, the idea of transience and death will undergo changes in characteristics and tone. Simultaneously, the implication with which it is expressed will evolve. The concept of death in his work matures from the glorification of a heroic death in battle, which, in the eyes of romanticists, was more respected than a shameful death in a hospital bed. This evolution continues with the demolition of the same idea, a result of contemplating the true meaning of heroic death. Ultimately, it leads to lamenting the innocence of transience and death that awaits us all. According to Dušan Ivanić, one of the most recurring themes in Serbian Romanticism is the topos of heroic death, commonly noted in the poetry of Branko Radičević. This concept of the ideal 'beautiful death' dates back to the Middle Ages when the idea of death served in favor of ideologies and the elite. Igor Borozan notes that a subsequent interpretation of death emerged during Romanticism (Borozan, 2006, p. 895). Research shows that the topos of heroic death will not only be deconstructed in the poetry of Branko Radičević, but also the mere meaning and expediency of war will be dismantled. This confirms Igor Borozan's thesis on the 'beautiful death' as an ideological construct of the country and the family (Borozan, 2006, p. 897). Apart from the idealistic heroic death, Radičević also presents death as an eternal human trauma in his poetry. This is related to 'Cemetery Poetry', which was popular among Serbian poets, including Branko Radičević, in the first half of the 19th century. The trauma of dying manifests most intensely through the poetics of space, as dying in foreignness is equally as mournful as dying in a hospital bed. Furthermore, Slobodan Vladušić studied in detail the topos of the dead loved one in the poetry of Branko Radičević. As Dušan Ivanić notes in his research, Radičević connects death in his poetry with elements such as water. Similarly, it is often hinted at, induced by, or followed by sound and auditory sensations.

This study aimed to determine the influence of sowing dates on morphological properties and grain yield. The experiment was conducted during 2018 (Y1) and 2019 (Y2) at one location in Serbia (Zemun Polje). Three inbred lines, produced at the Maize Research Institute (Serbia), were used as the material. Sowing was set in two terms, earlier 1 April (SD1) and optimal 20 April (SD2). Morphological properties of the cob were measured in the laboratory conditions: the ear weight (EW), the cob weight (CW), the cob length (CL), the cob thickness (CT), the 1000 kernel weight (SW), and the grain yield (GY). The sowing date significantly affected the morphological properties of the cob (p≤0,05). The interaction of factors also had a significant impact on the variability of traits. Three-way analysis of variance indicates that SD1Y1 treatment in combination with ZP1 and ZP3 inbred lines has a higher yield (6.28 t ha-1 , 7.05 t ha-1 ). Further, the 1000-kernel weight in all three genotypes was higher in the SD1, ZP1 (324.35 g), ZP2 (329.78 g), and ZP3 (326.55 g). The earlier sowing date was also favourable for the cob weight. Meteorological conditions can be more or less stressful for field crops. Adverse weather conditions can be avoided or reduced by applying different sowing dates.

A cross-sectional study was conducted during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic (March and April 2020) in the Republic of Serbia, with the aim to evaluate the relationship between coping strategies and readiness to get a vaccine against coronavirus. At that time vaccines against COVID-19 were not developed. Coping strategies were measured on the Cybernetic Coping scale. Results confirmed that coping strategies could predict someone's negative attitudes toward vaccination. Namely, more frequent usage of devaluation was negatively associated with someone's intention to get vaccinated. It seems that underestimating the danger, believing that pandemic is not real, that COVID-19 is "just another flu-like virus" reasonably decreases the chance that someone will take precautionary measures.

A field trial with four red clover cultivars ('K-39', 'K-17', 'Una' and 'Viola') was conducted on a leached vertisol acid in reaction (pHH2O 4.8) to assess the effect of foliar treatment with phosphorus and potassium on seed yield and seed yield components. A single foliar application of phosphorus and potassium (P52K34) was made at the intensive growth stage during the second growth in the second year of cultivation. Seed yield and seed yield components were analyzed from the second growth in the second year of the experiment. Foliar treatment with phosphorus and potassium had a significant positive effect on seed yield and yield components in some red clover cultivars in some years. The most positive effect was recorded in 'K-17' and 'Viola'. The different effects of foliar-applied mineral fertilizers on the tested cultivars were the result of their phenotypic differences. Foliar treatment gave the best performance in 2011, when the climatic conditions were the most favorable for red clover growth and development. In general, the seed yield of red clover cultivars increased by 105 kg ha-1 under foliar fertilization. The positive effect of the foliar treatment with phosphorus and potassium was attributed to the need for these elements in many plant processes. The results showed that the foliar application of mineral fertilizers in red clover seed production on acid soils can be an acceptable practice under conditions favoring high yields.

This paper presents the results of the cleaning tests of three different natural alfalfa seed lots and three different red clover seed lots performed using seed processing machines. The alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and the red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) are two of the most important perennial forage legumes in the Republic of Serbia. Alfalfa and red clover seeds for sowing should be clean, i.e. free from weeds and foreign matter, and of high germination and genetic values. Such requirements can only be achieved by cleaning, i.e. removing all undesirable impurities and poor-quality seeds. The following parameters important for the seed cleaning process and equipment were observed: seed purity, contents of weed and other crop seeds, inert substance content, amounts of processed seeds (kg), seed loss and processing output. The results obtained facilitate (depending on the amount and type of weeds and other impurities found in the alfalfa and red clover seed lots considered) the proper adjustment of the seed processing equipment to obtain the largest possible quantity of quality seeds that are in compliance with the laws and regulations of Serbia.

The paper represents a part of doctoral dissertation the Romanticism in Serbian Literature from Imagologic Perspective in which the author looks back at socio-historical conditioning of our pictures and images, and seeks to point at the potential supposed impact of canon as the reflex, and the representative of the governing concept to their emergence and maintenance. The makeup of the paper is in two pieces: In the first part titled Canon(s), Images, Concept(from Concept toward the Image) the author gets back to the historical development and transformation of the notion of canon and clearly précises one of the main starting point of the paper, as per which there is an unbreakable bond between governing concept imposed by socio-historical circumstances of the images and canons arising from this concept and canon, which is their reflection and way to produce once again and maintain alive and active. In the second part of the paper, canon is seen as the form of symbolic social power which is acquired by the use of discourse, as Michel Foucault defined it clearly. Besides, in this part the author gives the overview of the scientific interest for the problem of canonisation, which has for its origination in our time sporadic attempts of 'new reading of tradition', and announces imagologic angle of canon observation as one in the series of such attempts.

Introduction: Professional burnout is a complicated state of mental, emotional and physical exhaustion, which mainly occurs among participants of so-called "helping professions". Regardless that intensive care units (ICU) have been recognized as one of the most stressful working environment in contemporary nursing, the burnout syndrome in the nursing profession is still under-investigated and neglected academic term in the scientific literature of Serbia and the surrounding countries. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of professional burnout among the intensive care unit (ICU) nurses, by using the inventory based on Freudenberger Burnout Scale. Subjects and methods: This cross-sectional study included 71 nurses who were employed in intensive care units of surgery, urology, internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics, and otorhinolaryngology departments in University Hospital Center "Dr. Dragiša Mišović", which is one of five University hospitals in Belgrade, Serbia, in July of 2017. Results: The statistical analysis of the data obtained in this study showed alarming results-burnout syndrome affected approximately one-third of the observed subjects, in form of manifested or severe job burnout. In the same time, another third of subjects were classified in the category of burnout candidates. Conclusions: Burnout incidence in observed sample exceeds the mean incidence of job burnout among nurses in other European countries that has been reported in the literature. Notwithstanding some limitations of this study (non-standardized questionnaire that was used in this study and relatively small sample of study participants from only one health care institution), the authors strongly believe that the obtained results clearly indicate necessity of further research into the problem of burnout in the nursing profession.

The paper presents the results of the seed processing of the natural red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) seed with different initial purity in the seed processing center in the Institute for forage crops in Kruševac. Seeds of red clover for sowing must be clean, with high germination and high genetic value. Most of these requirements can be achieved through the seed processing, by the removal of impurities and seeds of poorer quality. In this process, there are number of technical-technological operations such as: cleaning, declarations, packaging in appropriate wrapping material and storage. The task of cleansing seeds is to remove all other seeds, weeds, impurities and extracts pure seed of the basic culture. In this way, the seed is prepared in a timely manner for good germination, sprouting, and cropping. During the processing of the red clover seeds, the relevant parameters on the equipment were determined: pure seed (%), weeds and seed of other cultures (%), inert matter (%), amount of processed seed (kg), seed losses (%) and processing output of the seed processing (%). The losses of red clover seeds in seed processing are in direct dependence on the type and quantity of weeds and other impurities present in the natural seed. On the basis of the obtained results, it is possible to optimally adjust and select the appropriate equipment for the red clover processing, depending on the quantity and type of weeds and other ingredients in the natural red clover seeds.

While searching for the oniric layer in the literary opus of this romanticism poet, the author of this research will be convinced that Laza Kostić is a being of doubt who spent his whole life, both personal and professional, oscillating between dreams and reality. The origin of dreams in Kostić's work is of a two-fold nature: some are the fruit of the poet's creative intention, whereas the others, the ones left, the ones making intriguing and mysterious The Diary of Dreams, are his 'alive' dreams which fulfilled his nights, sometimes even days, for the entire six years, maybe even longer. Kostić intended those first dreams, created out of necessity, to lead a public life, while the others, being written in French, were meant to stay away from prying eyes. That can, it seems, be a valid reason for them to be read and interpreted separately. End yet, our research, as well as the others up to now, related to Kostić's life and work, indicate that the key of the genesis and understanding of his swan song is what The Diary of Dreams exactly is. In it the motives and the concepts are consistently and constantly showing up, and later, at the peak of his career culminated into 'the most powerful love song of Serbian literature', Santa Maria della Salute. In the corpus of his written legacy, the motive of dream is often recognised as a metaphor for life and/or death, but also as an expression of poetically transposed desires of a poet. That would also correspond to the Freud's theory that dreams are a mere expression of repressed desire of the one dreaming. In his work, the motive of dream is appearing within the thematic units in whose basis are: a) national-romantic idea of Serbian identity b) mythological religious theme c) emotional sensitive life. Studying poet's literary dreams, as well as personal ones, we will realise that neither in the idea of national awakening and restoration of the former Serbian empire, nor in mythology and religion, did he find consolation and satiation. Only when he encountered Lenka Dunđerski, who is said to have been the embodiment of Anima from his dreams, did he start his way from individually unaware Anima to collectively unaware archetype of the Great Mother, through the means of individuation, towards original oneness, permanent conciliation and satiation, which will result in his swan song, Santa Maria della Salute.

- Abstract
The pharmacoeconomic aspect of the treatment of pneumonia in the pediatric population is scarce analyzed in the countries of the Balkan region. This research aimed to determine the value of total hospital costs of treating childhood pneumonia from the Republic Fund of Health Insurance perspective. This retrospective cost of illness study was performed using the “from the bottom to the top” approach. It included 82 patients with childhood pneumonia who were treated at Clinical for pediatrics at Clinical Centre Kragujevac. The total costs of hospital treatment of pneumonia for the examined population were 4,095,293.73 RSD. The largest share in total hospital costs has the length of patient hospitalization (22%). The median total hospital costs per patient per year amounted to 40,249.91 RSD (4,793.10 - 142,149.63 RSD). Since the main determinants of overall costs of treating childhood pneumonia are the length of stay and noninvasive ventilation rate, therapeutic strategies should provide not only efficient treatment in compliance with current guidelines as also decreasing these determinants to offer a better pharmacoeconomic profile of childhood pneumonia.

Đokić D., M. Tabaković, J. Knežević, B. Milenković, D. Poštić, R. Štrbanović, R.Stanisavljević (2023). Variability and correlation between quality of maize hybrid seeds of different fractions obtained after seed processing and the initial seedling growth.- Genetika, Vol 55, No.1, 289-300. The shape and the size of maize seeds are the most variable traits, which are determined by a genotype and environmental conditions. The aim of this study was to understand the effects of the mechanism of the relationship and significance of seed variability on germination and morphology of seedlings. The seeds of five hybrids ZP388, ZP434, ZP555, ZP606, and ZP6263 were used in this study. The following seed traits were analysed: physical ones: seed length (L), thickness (T) and the width (W); morphological ones: seed weight (SW), seedling length (SLW), root length (RL), shoot length (SL) and seed germination (G) as a phydiological trait. There are statistically significant differences not only among physical traits of the seeds of the five hybrids (p≤0.05), but also among the morphological traits (p≤0.05). Statisticlly significant differences (p≤0.05). in the 290 GENETIKA, Vol. 55 No1, 289-300, 2023 width (W), length(L) and thickness (T) of seeds of all hybrids were determined in the small flat fraction (SP). The large rounded seed fraction (KO) mainly differed in the width and thickness between hybrids ZP434 and ZP 555, while the large flat seed fraction differed the most in the length between these two hybrids. Large-flat (KP) seed fractions are also characterized by the highest germination (99%). As the seed weight increases, the seedling weight decreases (R2=0.527). Segmentation within hybrids according to the diversity of morphological and physiological properties of seeds was carried out according to the seed size, fraction and seedling weight, while the other parameters were less important. The characteristic of all hybrids is that large seeds of the KP fraction have high ge, Oblik i veličina semena kukuruza su najpromenljivije osobine koje određuju genotip i uslovi životne sredine.

'There is in the word, in the speech, something holy, which forbids us to make out of it the game of case. To handle properly with language means practise some kind of evocative magic', lucidly concluded Charles Baudelaire (Baudelaire: 194). Starting from this Baudelaire's statement. French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu reminds us to the fact the dedicated oeuvre on the form may give birth to the idea, since just 'within, and by working on the form the evocation (in Baudelaire's strong meaning) of the reality which is more real from sensual mirage which are realised in the simple realistic description'. That makes of the procedure of writing some kind of initialistic ritual, 'whose intention to create in a way conditions suitable for evocation, and the appearance of ideal which is the reality itself' (Bourdieu 2003: 159). By his life and oeuvre, Đorđe Marković Koder confirmed the truth of these quotations. Wrapped up in mystery, and magic power of language to invoke reality, he had left us in heritage the provocative oeuvre whose first and last line of defence was language itself in which, whatever issue is in question, was sunk just through linguistic layer or was stayed on the superficial, hermetic and impermeable for all those which writing and reading consider as 'pure coincidence'… The author of this paper research subject is oneiric layer of Koder's poem. On the basis of four hermetic, and rugged Koder's poems (Romoranka, the Dream of Mother Serbian, Devesilje, Iskon) how many of them left behind a poet, the author forms a hypothesis on the whole poetic works of the poet as immense field of dream, for whose understanding the key is represented by his language. As a passionate polyglot, and expert of twelve foreign languages, lover of fables, incantations, magic healing rituals, and secret people's rituals, in the time precedent of the standardization of Serbian language, Koder was writing in a language which by its incomprehensibility had been rejecting in decades either reading or professional, and scientific audience from himself. Those, who were dealing with Koder's oeuvre, could not commence their research without paying attention to a magic world of Koder's language-romors, and words-beings conforming to him. Relying on the conceptual apparatus being used in the approach of study of dreams, and human reasonable known as lucid dreaming, and which for organizational units of oneiric material takes dream spheres, the author in this paper singles out seven spheres which hierarchy is difficult, and almost impossible to determine, and which interwines, chains, and permeate the entire oeuvre of Koder. These are: 1. The Sphere of Great Mother; 2. Shepherd's Sphere; 3. Star's Sphere; 4. Fauna's Sphere: a. Turtledove (Turtledove's Sphere), b. Rooster (Rooster's Sphere); 5. Angel's and Fairy's Sphere; 6. Genius's Sphere (Sphere of Thunder - Franklin's Sphere) i 7. Floral Sphere.

The poetic oeuvre of Đorđe Markovic Koder, airtight, rugged, and non-understandable was written with miraculous, koderic, non-existent language which made of him a marginal writer, and poetic demiurge at the same time. As a passionate Serbian polyglot and speaker of twelve foreign languages, lover of fables, incantations, magic and healing rituals, and secret folk ones, in the time which preceded the standardization of Serbian language, Koder was writing by the language which refused by decades either reading or professional scientific audience from himself due to its incomprehensibility. The ones, who were dealing with Koder's oeuvre, could not commence their research without paying attention to miraculous world of Koder's language-romora and conforming words-beings to it. The author of this paper herself, which represents the first part of the comprehensive oeuvre to the theme of oneiric discourse in poetic heritage of Đorđe Markovic Koder, starts from the thesis in her research on poetic collection of the poet as the immense field of dream, which key for understanding is to be his language. The research is based on five Koder's poems, out of which only Romorankawelcomed printed edition, while other four poems: Dream of Serbian Mother, Devesilje, Mythologies, Iskoni, were preserved in manuscripts. Relying on conceptual apparatus being used in the study of dreams and man's intellectual one known as lucid dreaming, the author in Koder's poems is noticing seven spheres of dream (organizational units of oneiric material), whose hierarchy is difficult or almost impossible to be determined, and which intertwines, permeates and chain up into Koder's works: 1. The Sphere of big Mother, 2.Shepherd's Sphere, 3. Star Sphere, 4. Sphere of Fauna (with subspheres - Turtledove's and Rooster's Sub-sphere), 5. Angels' and Sorceress' Sphere, 6. Sphere of Genius (sphere of lightening - Franklin's sphere), 7. Flora's Sphere.

Acidification, as a form of soil degradation is a process that leads to permanent reduction in the quality of soil as the most important natural resource. The process of soil acidification, which in the first place implies a reduction in soil pH, can be caused by natural processes, but also considerably accelerated by the anthropogenic influence of excessive S and N emissions, uncontrolled deforestation, and intensive agricultural processes. Critical loads, i.e. the upper limit of harmful depositions (primarily of S and N) which will not cause damages to the ecosystem, were determined in Europe under the auspices of the Executive Committee of the CLRTAP in 1980. These values represent the basic indicators of ecosystem stability to the process of acidification. This paper defines the status of acidification for the period up to 2100 in relation to the long term critical and target loading of soil with S and N on the territory of Krupanj municipality by applying the VSD model. The Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) geostatistic module was used as the interpolation method. Land management, particularly in areas susceptible to acidification, needs to be focused on well-balanced agriculture and use of crops/seedlings to achieve the optimum land use and sustainable productivity for the projected 100-year period.

Background/Aim. In recent years, the focus of interest of the scientific community is the application of heart markers as early indicators and prognostic parameters of perinatal asphyxia (PA). The aim of this study was to evaluate the significance of clinical application of heart markers in term newborns with perinatal asphyxia. Methods. During a 3- year period we analyzed 91 full-term newborns (55 with and 36 without perinatal asphyxia). In all the subjects within the first 24-48 h after birth, we simultaneously determined serum concentrations of cardiac troponin I, brain natriuretic peptide, MB fraction of creatine kinase (CK-MB) and Creactive protein. Results. In the group of full-term neonates with PA significantly higher levels of cardiac troponinI (p = 0.000), CK-MB fraction (p = 0.000), brain natriuretic peptide (p = 0.003) and C-reactive protein (p = 0.017) were found, compared to the group of healthy full-term newborns. In merged group (n = 91) cardiac troponin I level correlated with the fifth minute Apgar score (r = - 0.637, p = 0.000) and the serum lactate concentration in the first 12h after birth (r = 0.529, p = 0.000). Early increase in cardiac troponin I > 0.135 μg/L predicted the risk of death with the sensitivity of 84.6% and specificity of 85.9%, while the increase in CK-MB fraction, brain natriuretic peptide and C-reactive protein did not have a predictive value with respect to a mortality outcome. Conclusion. Among the tested cardiac markers, cardiac troponin I is the most sensitive and the only reliable early predictor of mortality in fullterm neonates with perinatal asphyxia.

Under agro-environmental conditions of Southern Serbia, the research was conducted over a three-year period to evaluate the effect of row spacing on seed yield, yield components and seed quality of alfalfa cv. 'K-23'. The average seed yield of alfalfa was highest at a row spacing of 40 cm (271.7 kg ha-1), followed by row spacing of 20 cm (249.4 kg ha-1) and 60 cm (244.0 kg ha-1). The highest and lowest number of inflorescences per stem were obtained in rows spaced 60 cm (13.37 inflorescences/stem) and 20 cm apart (8.57 inflorescences/stem), respectively. The widest row spacing of 60 cm (7.15 pods / inflorescence) resulted in the highest number of pods per inflorescence, whereas the lowest number was produced at 20 cm spacing (5.50 pods / inflorescence). Grain number per pod ranged from 3.55 (at 20 cm row spacing) to 4.05 (at 60 cm). The highest quality of alfalfa seed during the three years of the research was obtained at the widest row spacing (60 cm). Thousand-seed weight was highest at 60 cm and lowest at 20 cm (1.97 g and 2.07 g, respectively). The highest average values for seed germination rate were reported for 60 cm row spacing (88.00%) and the lowest for 20 cm row spacing (85.76 %).

Background/Aim. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a multifactorial disease in premature infants. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of ROP in children treated at the Center of Neonatology, Pediatric Clinic, Clinical Center in Kragujevac, Serbia. Methods. The study covered all children with birth weight below 2,000 g and/or gestational age below the 37th week, who from June 2006 to December 2009 underwent ophthalmological examination for ROP. The results of fundoscopy were classified in accordance with the International Classification of ROP. The treatment of infants and those with ROP was conducted in accordance with the early treatment of ROP study recommendations. We analyzed gestational age, birth weight and postconceptional age in two groups: healthy infants and those with severe form of ROP. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS 16. Results. A total of 478 children met the criteria of screening for ROP. Severe stage of ROP, which required laser treatment, had 102 (21.3%) children. Out of the infants with severe ROP 14 (13.7%) of the infants with APD had aggressive posterior disease, while two (0.4%) remained blind. The differences in the mean values of gestational age between the healthy and the children with severe form of the disease were statistically significant (p < 0.0005). The mean value of gestational age for the healthy children was 33.33 ± 2.28 weeks and for the seek infants 30.66 ± 2.79 weeks. The mean value of the weight in healthy children was 1.981 ± 407 g, and in sick children 1.535 ± 434 g which was statistically significant (p < 0.0005). Multivariate binary logistic regression showed that the occurrence of the disease depends on body weight and gestational age. Conclusion. The incidence of severe forms of ROP was 21.3%. Aggressive form of ROP was present in 13.7% of the children. The cut-off value for body weight was 1.740 g, and for gestational age 32.5 weeks.

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of foliar application of molybdenum on the germination energy and share of hard alfalfa seeds. Climatic conditions during the year had the greatest impact on the germination energy and share of hard seeds. Energy of germination was influenced by climatic conditions during the development of crops, ranging from 68.5 % to 84.1 %. Minimum germination energy was generated in the year with the most rainfall during seed formation, and the highest germination energy was achieved in the year with less rainfall during seed formation. The share of hard seeds ranged from 5.1 % to 6.7 %. Treatments with molybdenum in our research did not realize the difference in the germination energy and share of hard seeds that is statistically justified in any year of study.

Introduction. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a multifactorial disease that occurs most frequently in very small and very sick preterm infants, and it has been identified as the major cause of childhood blindness. Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate ROP incidence and risk factors associated with varying degrees of illness. Methods. The study was conducted at the Centre for Neonatology, Paediatric Clinic of the Clinical Centre Kragujevac, Serbia, in the period from June 2006 to December 2008. Ophthalmologic screening was performed in all children with body weight lower than 2000 g or gestational age lower than 36 weeks. We analyzed eighteen postnatal and six perinatal risk factors and the group correlations for each of the risk factors. Results. Out of 317 children that were screened, 56 (17.7%) developed a mild form of ROP, while 68 (21.5%) developed a severe form. Univariate analysis revealed a large number of statistically significant risk factors for the development of ROP, especially the severe form. Multivariate logistical analysis further separated two independent risk factors: small birth weight (p=0.001) and damage of central nervous system (p=0.01). Independent risk factors for transition from mild to severe forms of ROP were identified as: small birth weight (p=0.05) and perinatal risk factors (p=0.02). Conclusion. Small birth weight and central nervous system damage were risk factors for the development of ROP, perinatal risk factors were identified as significant for transition from mild to severe form of ROP.

- Abstract

Background/Aim. Myocardial cell lesion in newborns may be clinically occult. In recent years there has been shown growing interest in the use of cardiac troponin-I (cTnI) in relation to perinatal asphyxia and hypoxic myocardial lesion. The aim of this study was to determine a relationship between high cTnI levels and outcome in critically ill newborns with perinatal asphyxia. Methods. In this study 78 patients were divided into three groups. The group I included 39 newborns (15 term and 24 preterm) with perinatal asphyxia, with no deaths, only full or partial (with some neurological sequels) recovery. The group II included 10 newborns (6 preterm and 4 term), with perinatal asphyxia who died, with critical cardio-respiratory problems and multiorgan dysfunction. The group III included 29 healthy term newborns. A level of cTnI in all three groups was measured within 24-48 hours after delivery. Results. A statistically significant higher value of cTnI (0.082 μg/l ± 0.166) was found in group I than in the group III (healthy newborns). In the group I, 21/39 newborns required respiratory and 16/39 required pressure support. In the group II, the largest average value of cTnI of 0.425 ± 0.307 was found. All of the newborns in the group II required respiratory and pressure support. In the group III the lowest average value of cTnI (0.0186 μg/L ± 0.0286) was found. Conclusions. High cTnI levels could be used as markers of perinatal asphyxia and even as predictors of future outcomes and/or mortality.

Examination were carried out by planting tuber weight 40 ± 5g, 60 ± 5 g i 80 ± 5 g. The research results indicate that the seed tuber size and pretreatment very significantly affected on all investigated characteristics potatoes. In both years the highest yield of tubers was established in the variant with the application of pretreatment and planting of the largest seed size fraction mass (80 g). Higher yields of potato tubers in moist conditions in western Serbia (Macva) of early varieties Cleopatra were achieved by planting larger mass of tubers (80 g) and removing the apical sprouts on tubers.

- Abstract
The aim of this study was to establish the effect of different seed treatments on germination, and the growth of the embryonic stem and the radicle of tomato and pepper varieties. Four treatments were used in the study: MIX [(Coveron + zinc (Zn 0.5%) + boron (B 0.025%)]; Coveron; zinc (ZnSO4, Zn 0.5%) and boron (B 0.025%). The treatments were applied on seeds of following four pepper varieties: Šorokšari, Somborka, Kraljica, and Mirtima and three tomato varieties: Rio Grande, Saint Pierre, and Tomato apple of Novi Sad (Novosadski jabučar). Germination and the growth increase of both the embryonic stem (cm) and the radicle (cm) were observed in the germination cabinets and pots containing soil in two laboratories – locations. After the treatment applied to the pepper seeds and testing in the laboratory germination cabinet the following was established: i) the maximum increase in germination of 90% was when the MIX and Zn treatment was applied to seeds, ii) the growth increase of embryonic stems of 2.7 cm was recorded when the MIX treatment was applied, iii) the growth increase of radicles of 1.7 cm was gained when the Coveron and MIX treatment was applied. Tests performed in pots showed that Coveron was the most efficient treatment. Treatments on tomato seeds during the seed testing in the germination cabinet provided: vi) the germination increase of 13% with the MIX treatment, vii) the growth increase of the embryonic stem of 2.6 cm with the same treatment, vii) the growth increase of 1.7 cm of radicles. Coveron was the most efficient treatment in tests in pots.

- Abstract
During two years, germinability and initial growth of seedling of nine foreign varieties and four domestic varieties were studied. The seed is grouped by size (small, medium and large), color (dark transitional and light color of seed coat). Then it was preserved and at three and fifteen months of age in the laboratory and in the field, germinability, dormant seed and growth of shoot and radicle root were examined. In addition to the age, other factors (variety, size, color, period of storage) influenced significantly (P≥0.05 to P≥0.00) on seed germinability and growth of seedling. Higher germinability is achieved from large seeds up to 3.6%. Depending on the seed coat color, the germinability varied to 11%. The seed coat color has had a high impact on maintaining germinability for fifteen months. Seeds with darker coat have also shown higher potential for storage and use in subsequent seeding periods, as determined by the application of the aging test on seed. Significant interdependence (r) was obtained between the germinability test and the growth of seedling in laboratory conditions and in field conditions. Between the germinability and the growth of the shoot and the root, a significant interdependence was established, depending on the varieties (P≥0.05 to P≥0.00). - Abstract
Climate changes are one of the crucial issues of modern agriculture. These changes imply the increase in average temperatures and the frequent occurrence of temperature extremes. Such conditions are stressful to maize concerning the expression of its traits. This paper presents the analysis of the maize yield concerning the yield components, morphological and chemical traits under various agroecological conditions. The objective of the study was to evaluate variability of grain yield (GY) and yield components (ear length, EL and number of kernel rows, NKR), morphological traits (plant height,PH and ear height, EH), as well as chemical traits (the whole plant dry matter, PDM and the ear dry matter, EDM), and the effect of the environment on the intensity of expression of these traits. Fifteen genotypes developed by crossing of six inbred lines were used as a material in the study carried out during the two-year period in one location. Obtained results indicate that traits were more pronounced in maize hybrids than in the parental components including the lower variability of the traits expression. NKR did not affect the yield unlike the EL, whose coefficient of determination was R2 = 0.600 in both production years. The environmental effect was high for all traits except NKR. PDM and EDM were closely related to PH and EH, but they also depended on the EL and the NKR.Variations in meteorological conditions have a significant impact on the final goal of the production, the yield. Prevailing agro-ecological conditions should be a major guideline in planning the crop production and selecting the genetic material.

- Abstract
The results showed that the foliar application of mineral fertilizers in red clover seed production on acid soils can be an acceptable practice under conditions favoring high yields., Poljski ogled sa četiri sorte crvene dateline K-39, K-17, Una i Viola je postavljen na zemljištu tipa lesivirana smonica, kisele reakcije (pHH2O 4.8) sa ciljem da se odredi uticaj folijarnih tretmana fosforom i kalijumom na prinos i komponente prinosa semena.

Zinc is an important microelement that enters into the composition of hundreds of enzymes and thousands of proteins in the plant and animal world. The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of foliar application of zinc in acid soil on the most important seed yield components and seed yield of selected red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) genotypes from Serbia and Bulgaria. The experiment was established in 2012 in Čačak (Serbia) on loessivized vertisol soil type with acid reaction (pHH2O 4.8). Sowing was done at a distance of 70x40 cm. There were used four different genotypes of red clover, three of which were isolated from the local population and variety of K-39. For the analysis was used the second cut in the second year of cultivation. Two treatments were used: control - no fertilization and foliar treatment with zinc in the form of ZnSO4 x 7H2O, at a concentration of 0.2%, using 1000 L ha-1 of water, at the stage of intensive plant growth. Foliar application of zinc had a positive effect on the number of stems per plant, the number of inflorescences per stem, the number of inflorescences per plant and the number of flowers per inflorescence. The negative effect of foliar application of zinc has been reported on the thousand seeds weight and the fertility of flowers at the genotypes originating from Bulgaria. A significant increase in seed yield per plant, under the influence of foliar application of zinc, was observed only in the variety K-39 (for 11.4 g plant
-1 ), which otherwise had the highest seed yield. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
