Dementia research lacks appropriate representation of diverse groups who often face substantial adversity and greater risk of dementia. Current research participants are primarily well-resourced, non-Hispanic White, cisgender adults who live close to academic medical centers where much of the research is based. Consequently, the field faces a knowledge gap about Alzheimer's-related risk factors in those other groups. The Alzheimer's Association hosted a virtual conference on June 14-16, 2021, supported in part by the National Institute on Aging (R13 AG072859-01), focused on health disparities. The conference was held entirely online and consisted of 2 days of core programming and a day of focused meetings centered on American Indian and Alaska Natives and on LGBTQIA+ populations. Over 1300 registrants attended discussions focused on the structural and systemic inequities experienced across diverse groups, as well as ways to investigate and address these inequities.

A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in medical education requires addressing both explicit and implicit biases based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics and the intersectionality with other identities. Heterosexism and heteronormative attitudes contribute to health and healthcare disparities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning, intersex, asexual individuals. Student, trainee, and faculty competencies in medical education curricula regarding the care of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning, intersex, asexual patients and those who are gender nonconforming or born with differences of sex development allow for better understanding and belonging within the clinical learning environment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning, intersex, asexual learners and educators. The Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics issued a call to action to achieve a future free from racism and bias through inclusivity in obstetrics and gynecology education and healthcare, which led to the creation of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Guidelines Task Force. The task force initially addressed racism, racial- and ethnicity-based bias, and discrimination in medical education and additionally identified other groups that are subject to bias and discrimination, including sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristic identities, persons with disabilities, and individuals with various religious and spiritual practices. In this scholarly perspective, the authors expand on previously developed guidelines to address sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics bias, heterosexism, and heteronormative attitudes in obstetrics and gynecology educational products, materials, and clinical learning environments to improve access and equitable care to vulnerable individuals of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning, intersex, asexual community. Although Takatāpui/ lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, plus (LGBTIQ+) people are over-represented in homelessness statistics, there is limited qualitative research that explores the enduring effects of homelessness once they have attained housing stability. Using data from eight semi-structured interviews, we explore life after homelessness for Takatāpui/LGBTIQ+ people in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Results show the long-term ramifications of homelessness, stigma, and shame about having experienced homelessness, participants’ desire to “turn their lives around,” and their experiences of supporting others. These findings show that experiencing homelessness influences people’s lives long after they are housed.

Self-perceived competency was low in all LGBTQIA health topics, although LGBTQIA participants reported higher preparedness than non-LGBTQIA participants. Conclusions: Majority of survey participants reported limited teaching of LGBTQIA health-specific content, highlighting the limited coverage of LGBTQIA health in Australian medical schools. Participants expressed positive attitudes towards LGBTQIA content and broadly agreed with statements supporting increased integration of LGBTQIA health content within medical curricula. This one-year longitudinal study examined the moderating effect of perceived social support from school-based Gay-Straight Alliances in the associations between homophobic cyberbullying involvement (i.e., victimization, bystanding) and academic outcomes (e.g., classroom misconduct, school readiness, academic performance, absenteeism, school behavioural problems), measured one year later, among 470 adolescents (Mage = 16.01 years; 56% female) who identified as LGBTQIA. Perceived social support from Gay-Straight Alliances moderated the relationship between homophobic cyberbullying victimization and Time 2 classroom misconduct, absenteeism, and school behavioural problem. Furthermore, perceived social support from Gay-Straight Alliances further moderated these associations for Time 2 academic performance, school readiness, and cyberbullying victimization. Similar patterns were found for homophobic cyberbullying bystanding and Time 2 academic performance and absenteeism. Our findings highlight the need for more research on homophobic cyberbullying, the crucial role Gay-Straight Alliances can play in mitigating negative outcomes associated with homophobic cyberbullying involvement, and the development of inclusive anti-cyberbullying prevention programmes that acknowledge the needs of LGBTQIA adolescents. In the face of ongoing discrimination, stigma, ostracism, and violence, Pacific Islanders of Diverse Sexual Orientations, Gender Identities, Intersex Expressions, and Sex Characteristics (PIDSOGIESC+) display a marked resilience. And yet, this resilience does not come lightly, nor is it cheap. This research draws on a mixed-methods data set to explore the complicated notion of resilience among PIDSOGIESC+ communities. Through engaging in rich talanoas, along with a wide-reaching survey, a nuanced picture emerges of communities that draw on a range of indigenous cultural perspectives across the Tropical Pacific to develop creative strategies for engaging meaningfully with the world around them. Highlighting a strengths-based approach to research and service delivery, we explore the unique skillset of the PIDSOGIESC+ community, the changes they have won, and the vision of a more inclusive society they are fighting for.

Refletir o direito de minorias representa um desafio ao relacionar perspectivas históricas e atuais para uma investigação que contribua na construção de respostas às problemáticas enfrentadas por esses grupos. O presente panorama de pesquisa, estabelece o recorte na América do Sul ao longo de 12 anos (2010-2021) na busca de compreender aspectos de desenvolvimento e desempenho democrático frente a judicialização de direitos LGBTQIA+. Nessa perspectiva, são levantados diversos fatores para verificar as razões da escassez de direitos e a ineficácia de direitos já existentes para estes grupos, adentrando o âmbito político, histórico, social e judicial. A investigação dos países se dá mediante métodos de revisão bibliográfica de produções acadêmicas no eixo temático, análise documental de materiais de referência e averiguação de dados desenvolvidos por plataformas que medem o índice democrático dos países da América do Sul, tal como o Democracy Index. Sendo assim, é possível constatar as nuances da conjuntura democrática dos países que (in)diretamente são influenciados por uma herança cultural, religiosa e social da colonização ibérica (luso-espanhola) na manutenção preconceitos construídos ao longo da história e persistem com o conservadorismo, dificultando o avanço do reconhecimento constitucional e amparo jurídico das uniões entre pessoas do mesmo sexo. Observa-se também um movimento comum dos países sul-americanos no reconhecimento de direitos LGBTQIA+, ainda que o modo de positivação desses direitos não seja homogênea (via legislativa ou judicial).

Parenthood entails daunting responsibilities, even more so if parents are of a different gender spectrum such as trans women. Against a rigid heteronormative society, this phenomenological study explored the challenges and the struggles, as well as the coping mechanisms, of the trans-women parents in Metro Cebu, Philippines. Through Husserlian's descriptive phenomenology, five participants were chosen through snowball sampling to share their experiences through in-depth interviews in 2023. Utilizing Colaizzi's method of data analysis, the study revealed seven (7) recurring themes: (1) Financial Instability; (2) Societal Acceptance; (3) Shifting Family Dynamics; (4) Lack of Legal Government Protection; (5) Employment Possibilities; (6) Perseverance; and (7) Communication. These findings provided insights into the lives of trans-women parents in the Philippines and offered recommendations for policies that could help address the issues faced by this sub-group of parents. Moreover, this study served as a contribution to the literature on non-heteronormative families through the lived experiences of trans-women parents in a heteronormative society like the Philippines. This paper aims to reconstruct the biographical work (Corbin and Strauss) undertaken by parents of non-normative people. The initiating event of biographical work is the disclosure of a non-normative sexual orientation and/or gender identity by the child. For many parents, this is an event that causes a breakdown of previous schemes of action, a gradual loss of control, and suffering. The empirical data consist of autobiographical narratives of parents of people with non-normative sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The study involved mothers and fathers residing throughout Poland, who were selected according to the snowball procedure. The data were collected through the narrative interview technique and compiled according to the analytical procedure proposed by Fritz Schütze, which is part of the interpretative research paradigm. In the course of four parallel biographical processes (contextualizing, coming to terms, reconstituting identity, and recasting biography), the new experience is integrated into the biography, its consequences are understood and accepted, a coherent identity is reconstituted and a new course for one’s life are charted. The analysis of the narrators’ biographical work has made it possible to identify three categories that organize the course of the parents’ lives and identities—stigma, normalization, and activism.

O presente artigo buscou discutir a trajetória do Movimento LGBTQIA+ brasileiro a partir de uma perspectiva histórico-geográfica, dando ênfase para a abordagem socioespacial e socioterritorial desse movimento tão diverso e relevante para a história de luta que se vincula a temática dos direitos humanos e cidadania no Brasil. Buscou-se a construção de um diálogo em torno das ações já consolidadas dos movimentos socioespaciais que se vinculam a diversidade sexual e de gênero, como a Parada LGBTQIA+, até as novas tipologias de ação pensadas em diferentes movimentos tradicionais que, na atualidade, tem incorporado a temática da diversidade como um elemento necessário e fundamental para a urgente ampliação do escopo e das discussões presentes nos sujeitos que constituem essas organizações. As questões e diálogos surgem como uma centelha em busca de uma compreensão geográfica do Movimento LGBTQIA+, possibilitando uma real intelecção entre as ações e pautas construídas e o contexto sociopolítico brasileiro. Para a sua construção, adotou-se a abordagem socioespacial e socioterritorial trazendo luz para a dimensão geográfica dos conflitos que produzem a mediação e apropriação do espaço geográfico, desde o corpo até a construção de efetivas políticas públicas direcionadas para a cidadanização dessa população. Para alcançar o objetivo proposto, foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico que buscou evidenciar os aspectos históricos, políticos e geográficos das primeiras organizações voltadas para temática LGBTQIA+ no Brasil. Posteriormente, foi construído um banco de dados e mapeamento das ações dos movimentos socioespaciais e socioterritoriais urbanos que se vinculam à temática da diversidade sexual e de gênero e que não são movimentos exclusivamente LGBTQIA+. Observa-se que nas últimas décadas os diferentes movimentos e coletivos que foram fundados com objetivos distintos, incorporaram essa discussão e produziram um conjunto de novos significados e dimensões para a disputa urbana em consonância com as interseccionalidades presentes em sua nova formação e configuração.

AbstractThe global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in life-altering changes for millions of people. Historically, marginalized groups prove to be among the most vulnerable populations during times of crisis due to the additional stress, isolation, fear, and stigma they already face in society. Through focus group research, this study sought to explore how one marginalized group, the LGBTQIA community, has been affected by the pandemic. The study found that although members of the LGBTQIA community did not face any specific COVID-19 stigma, the pandemic exacerbated the already disproportionate socioeconomic issues they faced. Already at risk of being socially isolated, the pandemic created a further division between participants and their personal relationships. In addition, participants faced the loss of jobs and health insurance, which increased their health risk. Participants expressed maintaining routines and relying on the resiliency they have built up over a lifetime of facing social stigma as ways that they were able to cope with the pandemic. In South Africa, promises and legal progress notwithstanding, homophobia is still pervasive. LGBTQIA people experience serious rights violations, according to an analysis of numerous literary sources, especially journals, which was done for this article. They also encounter problems with their physical and mental well-being, face stigma and discrimination, and are not allowed to participate in cultural customs like customary male circumcision. It has been demonstrated that social work can be vital in ensuring that LGBTQIA people are able to exercise their rights, educate the public, and push for severe punishments for homophobes. Este artigo tem o objetivo de problematizar os desafios enfrentados por travestis no processo de escolarização em instituições de educação básica e superior na cidade de Natal, Brasil. A partir de um processo cartográfico, os pesquisadores problematizam as vivências das travestis à luz da teoria queer e ilustram os percursos de escolarização marcados por processos de tensão e resistência. O estudo revela as relações das travestis com outros atores em contextos educacionais a partir da ótica da travestilidade, entendida como as múltiplas e singulares formas de expressão travesti, e defende uma escola baseada na educação da diferença. Conclui-se que, apesar do avanço na legislação e no campo da pesquisa sobre o tema, permanece explícita a estigmatização e violação das múltiplas formas de expressão da vida travesti no contexto escolar.

More women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community are noticeably enrolling in and graduating from the University of the Philippines School of Archaeology (formerly Archaeological Studies Program) since it was established in the mid-1990s. This paper presents the challenges women and LGBTQIA+ individuals face in this traditionally male-dominated field. We examine unknowingly discriminatory practices, attitudes toward women and LGBTQIA+ individuals, rights and responsibilities in the field and laboratory, research opportunities, intellectual property rights, a safe working environment, and other issues that came out during interviews. More importantly, it focuses on the victories of women and LGBTQIA+ archaeologists working in the Philippines. We end by recommending how we can improve the practice of archaeology for all individuals. Patuloy ang pagdami ng mga mag-aaral sa arkiyolohiya sa Pilipinas mula nang itinatag ang University of the Philippines School of Archaeology noong 1995. Bunsod nito, pinag-aralan ng mga may-akda ang mga hamon na kinakaharap ng mga kababaihan at LGBTQIA+ na indibidwal na nagsasagawa ng arkiyolohiya sa Pilipinas sapagkat ito ay isang disiplina kung saan mas nangingibabaw ang kalalakihan. In the fall of 2022, the authors created a series of three LibGuides for the Ezra Lehman Memorial Library about LGBTQ+, disabled, and Indigenous communities. These LibGuides served both as resources for academic research and as outreach tools to the communities represented in the guides. In this paper, we discuss the creation process behind these guides, how these guides were used as outreach tools, and the collaborative programming which resulted from the creation of these guides. In addition, we discuss ways in which our LibGuides outreach efforts can be framed within larger discussions about the role of outreach in libraries and the ways in which other libraries can use LibGuides as outreach.

Purpose: Healthcare avoidance and delay (HAD) in the transgender population has been well documented, and research has explored a range of associated factors that help to identify those most at risk of HAD. This review addresses a gap in the research by synthesizing research exploring associations between HAD and demographic factors. Methods: A systematic search of literature published at any time up to December 2021 was conducted, using five databases (EBSCO, EMBASE, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) and manually searching reference lists of included studies. After exclusion of duplicates, 608 unique records were subjected to double screening. Papers reporting statistical analyses of HAD in association with any sociodemographic variables were included in this review. Papers consisted of nineteen cross-sectional studies. Narrative synthesis was used to address findings. Results: Nineteen studies met inclusion criteria, exploring HAD in association with a wide range of demographic factors, including sex and gender, social transition factors, age, race and ethnicity, socioeconomic factors, veteran status, education, sexuality, relationship status, citizenship, place of residence, and state demographics. Findings identified intra-community demographic risk factors, with consistent evidence for increased HAD among transmasculine, and younger, participants. Lower income and higher educational attainment were also associated with increased HAD, while remaining areas had weak or little evidence for association with HAD. Conclusion: This review expands knowledge in this area by highlighting demographic factors associated with increased HAD in research literature, and exploring how these may be further investigated to address substantial gaps in the body of research.

Objectives: Digital mental health interventions are a promising therapeutic modality to provide psychological support to LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, Queer, intersex, asexual, plus other gender, sexual, and romantic minority identities) people. The aim of this narrative review is to explore how the LGBTQIA+ community has been engaged in the design of digital mental health interventions, how content has been tailored to the LGBTQIA+ community, and features identified as important by LGBTQIA+ participants. Methods: A total of 33 studies were included in this review from a larger yield of 1933 identified from systematic searches of five databases (PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, CINAHAL, and Medline). Data were analyzed narratively and using content analysis. Results: Only half of the studies reported engaging the LGBTQIA+ community in intervention designs. Interventions have been tailored in a variety of ways to support LGBTQIA+ individuals—such as through affirming imagery, recruitment through LGBTQIA+ networks, and designing content to focus specifically on LGBTQIA+ issues. A range of features were identified as important for participants, namely how content was tailored to LGBTQIA+ experiences, providing connection to community, and links to other relevant LGBTQIA+ resources. While not a primary aim, results also showed that a wide range of digital modalities can significantly improve a range of mental health problems. Conclusion: Digital interventions are an acceptable and effective form of therapeutic intervention, but future research needs to focus on meaningful engagement of community members to inform design and implementation. Over 20% of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual or Ally, and more (LGBTQIA+) community reports experiencing discrimination upon accessing health care, causing many to defer access to care and resulting in poorer outcomes. While members of this community routinely undergo imaging studies, little formal education exists within the field of radiology to review the unique health care needs of this population and the specific relevance to imaging, in addition to actionable methods to promote inclusion. A 1-hour educational conference was held for a cohort of radiology resident physicians at our institution, in which topics including LGBTQIA+ health care disparities, clinical nuances relevant to the field of radiology, and actionable suggestions that both academic and private-practice centers can adopt to foster inclusion were presented. All attendees were required to complete a 12-question, multiple-choice preconference and postconference examination. Median prelecture and postlecture quiz scores for four first-year radiology residents were 29% and 75%, for two second-year radiology residents were 29% and 63%, for two third-year radiology residents were 17% and 71%, and for three fourth-year radiology residents were 42% and 80%. Multiple areas of opportunity to foster LGBTQIA+ inclusion at the provider and administration levels currently exist throughout the field of radiology. A radiology-focused education module regarding clinical nuances, health care inequities, and ways to foster an inclusive environment with the LGBTQIA+ community is an effective way to promote learner knowledge. Objetivo: O artigo objetiva identificar produções sobre os estudos de gênero e sexualidade LGBTQIA+ na Ciência da Informação (CI). Nesta pesquisa bibliográfica, o aporte teórico segue uma aproximação dos estudos de gênero e da sexualidade com a perspectiva da injustiça epistêmica e suas abordagens estrutural e hermenêutica em contexto de relações de poder e desigualdades históricas de pessoas que fogem à hegemonia heterossexual. Método: O recorte do levantamento são as linhas de pesquisa de Programas de Pós-Graduação (PPGs) e produções acadêmicas no Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da CAPES que abordam temáticas de gênero e sexualidade na região sul do Brasil na CI. Interessa identificar as contribuições do campo na gênese e no desenvolvimento de espaços de produção sobre a temática. A partir do mapeamento de referenciais teóricos e metodológicos, como também objetos de estudo mais recorrentes, pretende-se delinear as contribuições, avanços e limites do campo da CI no contexto de desigualdades históricas. Entende-se a importância de identificar autores e instituições contemporizando as discussões de estudos interseccionais e decoloniais. Resultado: É relevante flagrar e mapear formas estruturantes de manutenção de poder e espaços de resistência e de superação das desigualdades das representações e experiências que trazem sentido no contexto histórico e social para os que escapam das normas e hegemonias sobre gênero e sexualidade. Identificamos um total de 42 teses e dissertações em CI sobre as temáticas de gênero e sexualidade, sendo que apenas 6 foram realizadas no Sul do Brasil. Quanto às linhas de pesquisa dos PPGs, das 24 instituições de nível superior do Brasil que oferecem cursos de mestrado e doutorado, em apenas uma linha de pesquisa foi identificado o termo “gênero” em sua descrição. Conclusões: Consideramos que os temas em foco ainda estão sub-representados na abordagem LGBTQIA+ tanto em linhas de pesquisa quanto na produção acadêmica.

Artykuł odnosi się do koncepcji kłirowej przestrzeni (ang. queer space) i jej zastosowania w badaniach. Omówiono w nim teoretyczne i empiryczne zmagania zaobserwowane w trakcie realizacji projektu badawczego, którego celem było zmapowanie przestrzeni kłirowych w Krakowie. W pierwszej części przedstawiono szerszy kontekst i etapy badań: archiwalnych, wywiadów opartych na mapach szkicowych oraz wykorzystania narzędzi arcGIS. Następnie skupiono się na rozważaniach wokół mapowania kłirowych przestrzeni, zwracając uwagę na problemy definicyjne, kontekstualność tego zagadnienia oraz częstą nieprzystawalność problemów poruszanych w literaturze przedmiotu do lokalnych warunków. Dyskusja ta stała się dla autorów okazją do omówienia prób lokalnych reinterpretacji kłirowych przestrzeni, wychodzących z przeprowadzonych przez nich badań i narracji rozmówców/rozmówczyń.

LGBTQIA+ asylum is a reality in Brazil, although it is not expressly included in the convention. Starting with historical research, the article shows how LGBTQIA+ asylum has been consolidated in International Law and, specifically in Brazil, as a country where there are also cases of homophobia and transphobia, LGBTQIA+ asylum is guaranteed, even if the information requested from the Federal Police and the National Committee for Refugees from Brazil do not currently indicate whether the number of concessions specifically for these groups has increased or decreased. Addressing the cliquet effect, it demonstrates the impossibility of retroaction in terms of Human Rights, preventing the denial of the granting of asylum in Brazil to this people, which is the distinctive focus of the research. The deductive method, combined with qualitative analysis of primary sources, such as official documents, and bibliographical sources were used to achieve the results. El asilo LGBTQIA+ es una realidad en Brasil, aunque no esté expresamente incluido en la convención. Partiendo de una investigación histórica, el artículo muestra cómo el asilo LGBTQIA+ se ha consolidado en el Derecho Internacional y, específicamente en Brasil, como país donde también se dan casos de homofobia y transfobia, el asilo LGBTQIA+ está garantizado, aunque las informaciones solicitadas a la Policía Federal y al Comité Nacional de Refugiados de Brasil no indican actualmente si el número de concesiones específicamente para estos grupos ha aumentado o disminuido. Abordando el efecto cliquet, se demuestra la imposibilidad de retroacción en términos de Derechos Humanos, impidiendo la negación de la concesión de asilo en Brasil a este pueblo, que es el foco distintivo de la investigación. Historically, LGBTQIA+ individuals have been excluded from mainstream society and thus library collections. At this time in particular, collections reflecting LGBTQIA+ experiences are under attack. This article will provide a case study for how one undergraduate academic library is seeking to mitigate this damage. By analyzing the systemic problems in supporting LGBTQIA+ collections, a variety of difficulties are revealed. One solution to overcome them is to create a stand-alone collection of LGBTQIA+ materials which is what Vairo Library at Penn State Brandywine decided to do. Through restorative collection practices that consider access and preservation of LGBTQIA+ works, new opportunities for engagement also become available and are discussed.

O artigo apresenta uma proposta para uma história LGBTQIA+ que consiga escapar à polêmica entre a concepção essencialista e a construcionista da sexualidade. Para tanto, o texto recapitula pressupostos, conceitos, limites e contradições de cada corrente, detalhando os tipos de história que suscitam. A seguir, apresenta uma alternativa historiográfica queer cujo centro é a desconstrução do binário heterossexualidade/homossexualidade, denunciando como o essencialismo e o construcionismo atuam para sustentar o binarismo sexual e de gênero. Por fim, o texto se interroga sobre o valor heurístico do anacronismo inerente à abordagem proposta, problematizando como algumas categorias passadas do homoerotismo podem permanecer como uma presença não resolvida e incoerente em dado presente histórico.

Abstract Background Methods Results Conclusion Young Black and Latinx Gay and Bisexual Men and Transgender Women (YBLGBMTW) face high levels of mental health related concerns. While online interventions show promise for addressing mental health conditions, few models focus on this population.We used a pre-post design to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a peer delivered mental health awareness intervention for YBLGBMTW. This study was nested as the control arm from a larger study investigating if Peer Influencers (PIs) can improve HIV prevention. PIs helped develop an online outreach campaign to raise awareness of pertinent mental health topics as chosen by the PIs. PIs recruited YBLGBMTW participants from online social networks, posted contents over a six-week period, and participants completed baseline and post-intervention surveys.PIs successfully recruited 71 participants of whom 92% completed the six-week post-intervention survey. Participants had on average 6.7 engagements with posted contents and 82% of participants indicated being very satisfied with the intervention.Using an intervention informed and delivered by PIs, participants were presented with information to address relevant mental health concerns. We found that such novel means of engaging this sample to raise mental health awareness is feasible, acceptable, and merits further development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LGBTQ (i.e., lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) individuals experience increased risk for substance use disorders. Many LGBTQ individuals experience barriers to benefiting from substance use programs. A recent study suggests that SMART Recovery, a cognitive-behavioral mutual help group for addictive behaviors, may be a valuable resource for LGBTQ individuals experiencing substance use–related problems. Mental health service providers can play a valuable role in supporting LGBTQ clients in participating in SMART Recovery by introducing them to the program, supporting them in overcoming barriers to successful engagement, and helping clients to apply SMART Recovery tools to salient situations to promote recall and utilization, and teaching additional cognitive-behavioral tools to promote effective emotion regulation and coping with minority stressors. Non-binary gender is a marginalised queer identity increasingly receiving mainstream media representation, a subject that warrants investigation. Non-binary is an umbrella term under which many experiences of gender fall, a factor that necessitates a nuanced variety of narrative representations to avoid perpetuating or creating static and singular archetypes. This article examines a sample of young adult novels with non-binary protagonists published between 2017 and 2020, exploring the various ways these texts express and explore their central characters’ gender identity. My findings reveal thematic commonalities between these novels, with particular focus on the language used to describe these characters’ felt sense of gender, their experiences with dysphoria/euphoria, their relationships to broader queer communities within their story worlds, and the intersections of queer gender and speculative elements. I argue that this subset we might call ‘non-binary YA’ serves as an emblem of the development of queer YA overall, its rapid expansion through various genres and narrative types providing a microcosm of the growth of the literary field and pointing to its future.

As questões colocadas nos documentos oficiais que norteiam a formação médica estão inseridas nas teorizações críticas de currículo, mas o currículo não é um artefato neutro e de transmissão desinteressada. Portanto, o objetivo do presente estudo é analisar como as questões de dissidências de corpos são acionadas no Projeto Pedagógico do Curso de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, através de metodologia amparada nos pressupostos pós-críticos de estudo em educação. Foi constatado que a construção do PPC se deu de forma arbitrária e interessada, se orientando por DCN que não acolhem os conceitos de corpo, sexualidade e saúde na diversidade. Refletir sobre o corpo, em todas as suas dimensões, e sua correlação com as práticas de saúde e de ensino, é fundamental para se (re)pensar a formação acadêmica, cuidado em saúde e, consequentemente, a construção de conhecimentos numa lógica de justiça social e dos direitos humanos.

As widely demonstrated, minority stress negatively affects well-being of LGBTQIA+ people. Recently, the literature has inquired into the psychological factors that may explain individual differences in levels of minority stressors experienced. In particular, some studies have focused on the role of adult attachment, although further studies seem necessary to understand its impact on proximal minority stressors. Through three multiple regression models, the present research analyzed the impact of adult attachment avoidance and anxiety on perceived stigma, internalized homonegativity and sexual orientation concealment, controlling for theeffect of proximaland distal minority stressors. One hundred and twenty-one people who self-identified as lesbian or gay and were involved in a romantic relationship when completing the questionnaire participated in the research. After controlling for the effect of distal and proximal minority stressors, data support a positive relationship between attachment anxiety and internalized homonegativity, and between attachment avoidance and sexual orientation concealment. However, the latter regression model was not significant. Finally, no significant relationship emerged between adult attachment and perceived stigma. The results are at least in part in line with the scarce literature on the topic. Further studies are needed to further support and extend the data emerging in the present study, in order to inform interventions aimed at promoting the well-being of LGBTQIA+ people.

O escopo temporal inicia-se com a implementação do Programa Transcidadania pela Prefeitura de São Paulo, de 2015 até 2022. O lócus limita-se aos Centros de Cidadania LGBTQIA+ da cidade, com maior foco na região central da cidade, foco migracional desta população do Brasil. Acompanha-se a descentralização do Programa para outras regiões da cidade e a expoente representatividade de pessoas transexuais em espaços de poder institucional. A metodologia etnográfica associativa situacional e análise de discurso são usadas por serem ferramentas para abarcar as heterogeneidades de variáveis e torná-las palatáveis para tradução científica desta única e inédita política pública e seus reflexos. Objetiva-se exibir a desenvoltura do programa, numa perspectiva qualitativa, bem como situar, dentro da transição de diversos contextos políticos sociais, a relevância dele e as influências dialogadas com o programa e desdobramentos/transformação social. Conclui-se que as disputas narrativas que circulam o Programa Transcidadania geram efeitos no combate da precariedade e da violência sofrida pela população trans.

O presente artigo visa evidenciar a relação entre a ascensão da direita radical no Leste Europeu, a partir da década de 1990 e o descumprimento de direitos LGBTQIA+ na Hungria (2012-2022) e Polônia (2015-2022). Ademais, fazendo uso da metodologia qualitativa explicativa, vinculada à ferramenta analítica de estudo comparativo, tem-se como objetivos específicos: (I) expor os principais eventos a nível doméstico e internacional diretamente relacionados à ascensão da direita radical na região; (II) destacar as similaridades e diferenças acerca das narrativas envolvendo os direitos LGBTQIA+ nos dois países; (III) evidenciar as respostas internacionais para com essas infrações de direitos. Assim, a pergunta-problema caracteriza-se como: por que a direita radical do Leste Europeu passou a adotar com tanta veemência a perseguição aos direitos da população LGBTQIA+ como parte de suas agendas políticas no século XXI? Portanto, a hipótese é que a transnacionalização da luta LGBTQIA+ é compreendida por alguns segmentos da Sociedade Internacional enquanto uma forma de imposição ideológica do Ocidente e, por isso, deve ser combatida em defesa da cultura e valores locais.

This ethnographic research explores the meaning and experiences of food insecurity among LGBTQIA+ college students to understand how identity might play a role in those experiences. We offer research-informed recommendations that stu­dent-serving programs could implement to increase accessibility and inclusivity for LGBTQIA+ students to reduce food insecurity. The study was conducted at a large, public, Tier 1 research univer­sity in North Texas. We used purposive sampling and recruited participants through emails and class announcements. We conducted 22 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with students who identified as LGBTQIA+. LGBTQIA+ students do not ini­tially associate their food insecurity with their LGBTQIA+ identity, and many of their experi­ences are similar to non-LGBTQIA+ students. However, ongoing homophobia, stigma, and dis­crimination against people who identify as LGBTQIA+ can add additional anxiety and chal­lenges that influence their experiences in ways that are different from non-LGBTQIA+ students. LGBTQIA+ students are at greater risk of losing family support, are more likely to seek emotional support from peers, and have increased anxiety about responses to their identity, which can affect their willingness to seek resources. Our results indi­cate that food insecurity has an emotional, mental, and physical impact on students, which impacts their academic success. As universities strive to be more welcoming to LGBTQIA+ students, we rec­ommend services that will build community, create safe spaces, and strengthen trust for students to have a positive college experience.

Campbell and colleagues propose a robust and rigorous strategic model to address and reduce Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct (RVSM) at Michigan State University, which significantly advances the field of RVSM prevention and education, particularly for survivors belonging to marginalized populations. While prior efforts have addressed RVSM on college and university campuses, Campbell and colleagues' model is groundbreaking in its ability to reduce RVSM against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual/agender (LGBTQIA+) students of color, by its principles of intersectional and trauma-informed action. This commentary highlights the contributions of Campbell et al.'s model and provides recommendations for enhancing programming and postassault services by addressing the totality of LGBTQIA+ survivors of color's identities. Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community are at increased risk for health threats when compared to their peers, including significantly higher rates of cigarette smoking and tobacco use, conferring risks for preventable tobacco-related illnesses and cancers. Health disparities for this group are associated with social and structural inequities, stigma and discrimination. As such, there are systemic and societal barriers to accessing smoking cessation services and too few services aim to reach and engage these groups. To date, three reviews have systematically summarized the literature about smoking cessation programs in LGBT samples; one review focused on young adults only, one review is eight years old, and one was focused on Australian policy. We conducted a scoping review of the literature and identified 71 studies examining smoking cessation in LGBT groups. Implementation barriers included in these studies were coded by raters. No studies were found that summarized or describe implementation science models for smoking cessation programs for LGBT groups. The Dynamic Sustainability Framework provides a structure for disseminating and implementating recommendations from smoking cessation research for practical use with LGBT communities. Interventions exist at the individual, family, systems, and national policy levels. More research is needed to determine whether tailoring or targeting of interventions matters. Using the Framework for Knowledge Translation, we created an easily disseminable sheet of information for community partners about how to use the lessons learned from these research articles to increase access to smoking cessation for LGBT individuals and communities and to increase public health. In this paper, I analysed the events of 7th August 2020 in Warsaw, when 48 people were detained by the Polish police who brutally raided solidarity demonstration with non-binary activist Margot Szutowicz. The aim of the paper is to explore queer activism in Poland on microsociological level using Gabriel Tarde imitation theory. I tried to show how individual experience of resistance gave rise to new, innovative forms of activism which became a social phenomenon. Structural factors (e.g., cisheteronormativity) promote minority stressors, which generate healthcare disparities among sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations (also known as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexual, asexual, and other sexual and gender-expansive persons--LGBTQIA+) with cancer. The individual's biological, behavioral, social, and psychological response to minority stressors will vary throughout their life course. However, there is a lack of empirical and theoretical guidance for conceptualizing health outcomes among SGM subgroups. To propose a nursing theory for the health promotion of SGM populations with cancer. Walker and Avant's strategies for theoretical derivation were followed. I present the definition, theoretical assumptions, concepts, propositions, and implications for practice, education, research, and policy of the derived theory. The theory provides a nursing framework to understand and address the multilevel impact of minority stress on the health of SGM individuals throughout their cancer care continuum. • Addressing the multilevel impact of minority stress promotes SGM survivors' health. • Biopsychosocial responses to minority stress vary during the cancer care continuum. • Nurses can mitigate healthcare disparities experienced by SGM cancer survivors. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) education and awareness focusing on its modes of transmission and preventive measures are timely and relevant in the country across all ages and sexual identities. The study aimed to assess the extent of transmission and prevention among the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual and more (LGBTQIA+) community members in eastern parts of Pangasinan including Urdaneta City, Villasis, and Umingan. The self-administered questionnaires that include the HIV/AIDS modes of transmission and preventive measures were distributed to the LGBTQIA+ community members with a total sample of 133. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of data. The results revealed that most the members of the LGBTQIA+ community members were moderately knowledgeable on the transmission of HIV/AIDS. In terms of the extent of prevention which is classified into three aspects, namely: physical, behavioral, and social preventive measures. The members strongly agreed to behavioral and social preventive measures however, physical preventive measures got the lowest rating or agrees. Young adults, male, those who finished higher education, and who are highly aware regarding HIV/AIDS have higher regards on the extent of transmission and prevention as compared to older adults, females, who finished elementary level, and those who are not aware. The nursing intervention proposed was to conduct a virtual seminar regarding HIV/AIDS comprehensive education focusing on transmission and prevention. The researcher recommended LGBTQIA+ communities and schools conduct virtual seminars that will widen the knowledge of the community and the youth about HIV/AIDS.

Objective: Youth self-identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer, intersex, asexual, and other identities (LGBTQIA+) are overrepresented among the homeless youth population in western countries. Although scholars have documented the situations and events contributing to disproportionately high rates of homelessness among LGBTQIA+ youth compared to cisgender peers, researchers have not as thoroughly examined the efficacy of services available to this group to assist their transition from homelessness to stable residency. The purpose of this scoping review was to examine the peer-reviewed literature to determine how many journal articles have been generated that addressed (a) the assessment of client satisfaction or (b) the effectiveness of intervention designed to help LGBTQIA+ homeless youth transition from homelessness to stable tenancy. Method: A database search of six peer-reviewed, health care publication indexes, with 50 key search terms was performed. The database search spanned publication years with no beginning year, but ended in January 2021. Results: Nineteen articles were identified that described programming, reported intervention outcomes, or outlined policies and recommendations intended to help LGBTQIA+ youth transition out of homelessness. Of the 19 studies, only five (26.31%) reported program evaluation (n=1, 5.26%), the assessment of intervention effectiveness (n=2, 10.52%), or an analysis of client satisfaction (n=2, 10.52%). Findings exemplify the dearth of scholarship and research examining this area of academic inquiry and public health need. Discussion: Without empirical research investigating service provision for the LGBTQIA+ homeless youth population, service providers have little data upon which to inform practice based on an understanding of the services that are needed and desired by this population to transition out of homelessness, the effectiveness and perceived satisfaction of those services, and whether services should be modified to better meet the needs of those for whom it was intended. Scholars and researchers are called upon to generate this needed public health research, which should include service recipient perspectives to target outcomes and interpret findings.

The two decades since the adoption of the first Security Council Resolution under the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda has paved the way for much introspection and debate. While there have been several positive impacts such as the inclusion of women in peacemaking processes and in bringing to light the deliberate deployment of sexual violence in armed conflict as a tactic, there have also been several gaps in implementation. Since the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1325, legal, policy, and academic discourse has focused on armed conflict and women and has made an essentialist case for the inclusion of women in post-conflict peace processes. Among one of the major concerns with the WPS Agenda in its verbiage and implementation is the tendency to conflate 'gender' with 'women's issues.' As a consequence, non-binary gender identities in general, and their experience of armed conflict in particular, have been sidelined and rendered obscure. Sexual violence in conflict has been understood through a limited 'gender' lens, and the unique experiences of queer people in armed conflict have neither been acknowledged or addressed in policy, legislation, and transitional justice measures. Tis paper critically evaluates the WPS agenda and identifies gaps both in its language and implementation through National Action Plans. It presents the unique challenges of sexual and gender minorities in armed conflict and calls for a gender, peace, and security regime founded on the principles of intersectionality, queer theory, and the right to self-determination.

O presente estudo se insere nas discussões sobre formação médica, e de modo específico, sobre currículo médico e as dimensões de corpo, gênero e sexualidade. Da conexão entre esses temas, o presente trabalho objetivou analisar como o corpo, gênero e sexualidade são acionados no Projeto Político Pedagógico (PPC) do curso de medicina da Unidade Acadêmica de Ciências da Vida — UACV/CFP/UFCG (Campus de Cajazeiras). Para dar conta dessa proposta de investigação, fundamentamos o referencial teórico-metodológico nos estudos pós-críticos sobre currículo. Tomamos como objeto de análise documental as DCN de 2001 para o curso de graduação em medicina e o PPC do curso em questão. Argumentamos ser múltiplas as formações discursivas — das normativas e diretrizes oficiais, científicas, biológicas/biomédicas, sociais, pedagógicos — que entram em disputa na composição curricular para a abordagem de saberes sobre gênero e sexualidade.

References to fear are often associated with narratives created by right-wing parties and media, especially while talking about issues such as gender, LGBTQIA+ or abortion. However, similar practices can be found in centre-liberal discourse, proving that the creation and reproduction of the dialectic of fear can apply to all agents, no matter their political affiliation. The article aims to challenge popular academic perceptions of the sources of fear by proposing a counterperspective that means to shift perception on agents of polarisation. Used examples focus on contemporary Polish mainstream centre-liberal newspapers which reproduce fear in their narrative, adding to both local and worldwide phenomena of political polarisation and radicalisation.

Este artigo tem o objetivo de realizar uma análise dos discursos de doze Projetos de Lei brasileiros que têm como proposta a proibição do uso da linguagem neutra. Para tanto, partimos de uma discussão sobre a governamentalidade foucaultiana e elaboramos uma descrição da topologia de governo do Brasil atual segundo a ordem do neoliberalismo tardio e da moralidade cristão-neopentecostal – considerando seus efeitos para a população LGBTQIA+. Passamos, então, à invenção da linguagem neutra e à agonística que ela faz funcionar para, finalmente, analisarmos três estratégias dos PLs: a de recrudescimento do par língua-povo, a de produção de inimigos públicos e a de invenção de uma infância a proteger. Fechamos o texto com observações acerca da produção da anormalidade e da monstruosidade hodiernas, voltadas a enquadramentos cada vez mais problemáticos para as dissidências à heterocisnormatividade.
