- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate how management teams perceive curriculum management in low-performing Chilean schools. School principals from 25 institutions considered poorly performing were interviewed about the factors that hinder curriculum management at the macro, medium, and micro levels. The findings show that the executive teams tend to identify barriers to curriculum management in aspects unrelated to their leadership practices and attribute the responsibility for the results to the pedagogical management of teachers and student performance. The conclusion is that it is necessary to strengthen pedagogical leadership and the involvement of school leaders to ensure consistency between the guidelines of the required curriculum and its flexible and situated implementation according to the contexts and needs of the schools. - Abstract
This study aimed to identify the biographical profile of female principals of schools that provide secondary technical-professional education in the Tarapacá Region, Chile. To do so, a qualitative, biographical-narrative design was used, with the participation of four female principals. The authors used semi-structured interviews with a narrative orientation to collect the information, which covered the different stages of their trajectories. The data were processed through an inductive thematic analysis. The findings revealed six common topics in their biographical trajectories: family support, personality characteristics, leadership, academic/professional exce- llence, interpersonal skills, and vocation. The author concludes that the biographical capital of female principals plays a fundamental role in the identity construction of their leadership, especially from a gender-sensitive perspective. This article proposes a quantitative exploratory study conducted in 330 schools in Latin America. The objective is focused on analyzing the different pedagogical leadership practices that enhance teachers' professional development and encourage student learning. School principals from 19 countries participated in the study, who were administered a survey and subsequently analyzed the data with the multiple regression technique. It was concluded that supervising and evaluating teaching, defining the school's objectives and monitoring student progress, favor commitment to higher professional qualification and encouraging quality learning in students. RESUMEN: Introducción/Objetivo: el engagement laboral es un concepto complejo y multifacético que integra dimensiones como el compromiso, la motivación y la conexión emocional que un empleado desarrolla con su trabajo y organización. Este estudio tiene como objetivo explorar las tendencias y los factores que influyen en el engagement laboral en el contexto actual. Metodología: se realizó un mapeo sistemático en la base de datos Scopus para identificar y analizar estudios empíricos y de revisión relacionados con el engagement laboral. La búsqueda bibliográfica se enfocó en estudios publicados entre el 2018 y el 2022, y 308 documentos fueron utilizados para el estudio. Se aplicaron criterios de inclusión y exclusión rigurosos para asegurar la relevancia y calidad de los estudios seleccionados. Resultados: el análisis bibliométrico revela un creciente interés en la investigación sobre el engagement laboral, con una producción científica notable en varios países y autores clave en el campo. Factores como el apoyo organizacional, la satisfacción laboral y el balance entre trabajo y vida personal han sido identificados como influencias significativas en el engagement laboral. Además, la evolución del engagement ha resaltado su importancia en la gestión de recursos humanos y la cultura organizacional, así como la influencia de la tecnología y la flexibilidad laboral en su definición moderna. Conclusiones: el engagement laboral en la Era Moderna trasciende visiones limitadas a funciones individuales o beneficios económicos, y abarca elementos que conforman una experiencia laboral enriquecedora y alineada con un propósito colectivo. Este enfoque holístico es crucial para impulsar la productividad, la innovación y la retención de talento en un mercado competitivo, el cual sienta las bases para una cultura organizacional ágil y preparada para el futuro. Próximas investigaciones deben explorar más a fondo las dimensiones del engagement y su impacto en el desempeño organizacional. ABSTRACT: Introduction/Objective: Employee engagement is a complex and multifaceted concept that integrates dimensions such as commitment, motivation, and the emotional connection an employee develops with their work and organization. This study aims to explore the trends and factors influencing employee engagement in the current context Methodology: A systematic mapping was conducted in the Scopus database to identify and analyse empirical and review studies related to employee engagement. The literature search focused on studies published between 2018 and 2022, with 308 documents used for the study. Rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, based on predefined parameters, were applied to ensure the relevance and quality of the selected studies. Results: The bibliometric analysis reveals a growing interest in research on employee engagement, with notable scientific production in various countries and key authors in the field. Factors such as organizational support, job satisfaction, and work-life balance have been identified as significant influences on employee engagement. Additionally, the evolution of engagement has highlighted its importance in human resource management and organizational culture, as well as the influence of technology and work flexibility in its modern definition. Conclusions: Employee engagement in the modern era transcends limited views to individual roles or economic benefits, encompassing elements that form an enriching work experience aligned with a collective purpose. This holistic approach is crucial for driving productivity, innovation, and talent retention in a competitive market, laying the foundations for an agile and future-ready organizational culture. Future research should further explore the dimensions of engagement and its impact on organizational performance.

La producción bananera en el Ecuador es relevante por su contribución a la economía, por los niveles de empleo y por contribuir al ingreso familiar. La provincia de El Oro es la tercera provincia de mayor producción bananera. Por ello, que se plantea en esta investigación caracterizar el liderazgo ético y la responsabilidad social de las empresas bananeras de la provincia de El Oro, para determinar la práctica decisional que los líderes asumen desde la responsabilidad social de las empresas. La investigación se apoya en la revisión de trabajos publicados en revista de índices especializados, de fuente primaria y secundaria que permitan sustentar la investigación. Las pequeñas y medianas empresas aportan con la encuesta información, que desde un enfoque mixto, de carácter descriptivo y deductivo, se expone en los resultados sobre el liderazgo ético, el cual está alineado con la conducta personal e interpersonal de los individuos que gerencian las unidades de producción bananeras y la forma bidireccional en la que apoyan la toma de decisiones. La responsabilidad social se evidencia en el ejercicio de buenas prácticas agrícolas, que se alinean en la generación de certificaciones impuestas por la ley o por las negociaciones realizadas, sin embargo, los líderes enfatizan como parte de su gestión, la dimensión económica dentro de la responsabilidad social, centrando la atención en estos aspectos económicos internos. Se resta importancia a la dimensión social al aspecto ambiental. Esto limita el evolucionar hacia una responsabilidad social integral, demostrando la falta de actuación desde un liderazgo responsable.

Este artículo estudia los estereotipos de género sobre las competencias de liderazgo entre hombres y mujeres, y el efecto del pensamiento estereotipado sobre la autoestima de dichas competencias. Nos basamos en datos de encuestas originales que miden tanto el pensamiento estereotipado de género como la autoestima, sobre una extensa lista de 25 competencias de liderazgo. Nuestro principal hallazgo es que las actitudes estereotipadas de género tienen un efecto sustancial en la autoestima y que este efecto es mayor para las mujeres que para los hombres. También encontramos que los estereotipos más fuertes existen para las competencias en las que se considera que las mujeres son mejores (como empatizar); que tanto los hombres como las mujeres tienen estereotipos, aunque los estereotipos son más fuertes entre los hombres (especialmente para las competencias que están más estrechamente relacionadas con el liderazgo); que existen diferencias sustanciales de género en la autoestima sobre ciertas competencias específicas de liderazgo, pero no sobre la competencia general para liderar; y que las teorías implícitas del liderazgo están fuertemente relacionadas con los estereotipos de género (competencias que están más fuertemente relacionadas con el liderazgo, son también competencias de las que los encuestados consideran que los hombres son mejores en ello).

RESUMEN El presente estudio analiza cómo los centros educativos innovadores tanto de ámbitos rurales como urbanos elaboran sus propuestas educativas. A través de una metodología de naturaleza cuantitativa basada en la encuesta y aplicada a una muestra de 139 docentes. Los resultados obtenidos muestran cómo los centros educativos innovadores han tomado decisiones para la mejora de la enseñanza elaborando propuestas educativas acordes en el marco de la vuelta a las aulas tras el COVID-19. Las conclusiones revelan una cultura innovadora compartida respecto al liderazgo para la diversidad, un currículo relevante, dinámicas de enseñanza activo/participativas y una evaluación formativa.

El presente artículo analizó las teorías de aprendizaje prevalentes en las asignaturas de inglés y liderazgo en instituciones de educación tecnológica de la ciudad de Quito, durante el período enero-mayo 2023 a través de la técnica de observación no participante. La metodología cualitativa en la que se apoyó este artículo fue la propuesta de Tranfield y Denyer que hace alusión a la revisión bibliográfica para poder sustentar las diversas teorías de aprendizaje existentes. La información obtenida fue analizada y contrastada desarrollando cuadros de comparación entre teorías de aprendizaje aplicadas en el aula; las mismas que influyen significativamente en el aprendizaje en los estudiantes de educación superior. Una vez observadas las clases y aplicadas las rúbricas, los resultados obtenidos fueron que las teorías más aplicadas han sido la constructivista, cognitivista y conectivista. Esto respondió a los temas abordados y a las actividades desarrolladas por parte de los estudiantes.

The digital world imposes different communication and new leadership styles. This article aims to offer a comprehensive and updated view of these phenomena, synthesizing the findings of previous studies and providing a critical analysis of emerging trends in digital content management and expression in Ecuadorian leadership. The adaptation of leaders to digital tools is highlighted, as essential to maintain cohesion and productivity in an environment transformed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, that leaders who effectively manage digital communication not only drive innovation and collaboration but also face challenges that require adequate skills, hence the importance of their education. In contemporary medicine, signaled by technological advances and specialization, mentors are crucial to maintaining the integrity and humanization of medical practice, positively influencing professionals' ethical and clinical conduct. This article explores the history and evolution of mentoring, including its current challenges, like time limitations, lack of resources, and pressure for performance that may affect effective relationships. Currently, there is great interest in the participation of women in decision-making, as different studies show that the presence of women in management influences the improvement of the company's sustainability. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the characteristics of female leadership in agri-food cooperatives through a reference case study in Spain. The aim has been to analyse the process of women's access to the board of directors, the characteristics of their leadership and the influence that their leadership has on business sustainability, measured through its three ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) components. The results indicate that women join the board after demonstrating their professional skills to the members. Their leadership can be defined as transformational and is supported by the cooperative culture. What competencies are essential for a 21st-century executive? Are we sufficiently preparing our leadership for the relentless challenges and perpetual transformations characteristic of the digital and globalized epoch? (Levy, 2007). Business schools are progressively shifting their focus towards leadership and personal development, recognizing the paramount importance of these proficiencies. However, does this emphasis prove adequate? Undoubtedly, the exigencies posed by the contemporary era are subjecting the managerial skill set to scrutiny, not merely due to the intricate orchestration of personnel (Pérez, 2018), who increasingly articulate a demand for personal gratification in their professional pursuits, but also considering the rapidity of metamorphoses (Tapscott, 1995), and the imperative to make decisions concomitant with such promptness. This article reports a study documenting managerial leadership within the schoolwork in tele-secondary institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic. The approach was qualitative with case study support. An exploratory stage was carried out, with the participation of management and teaching staff from the State of Veracruz, Mexico, and another in-depth stage, which resulted in the selection of two cases. The analysis presented focuses on a school principal and the center where he works; with the support of Atlas.ti, three categories were defined: teacher well-being, closeness to the students and professional learning community. The results show that what prevailed was the physical, labor and emotional well-being of teachers; the search for permanence and learning of the students, as well as the constitution of a professional learning community. We recognized that the possibility of innovation in education emerged, even amidst the health crisis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research study aims to analyze leadership in a post COVID-19 scenario in the public health sector, in the hospitals of La Serena and Coquimbo, from the Coquimbo region (Chile). A relational model with fourteen hypotheses is proposed, using structural equations through the partial least squares method. The results show that service quality is a consequence of the positive, direct, and indirect influence of effective communication and work team empowerment, where its variance is explained by 53.4%, while organizational development has an incidence of 43.8% and 53.1%, respectively. It is concluded that it is important to encourage the development of empathetic leadership within public health organizations and their work teams, not only for good care directed to patients and families, but also as a means to raise institutional reputation. Religious sentiments have become a potent tool for political elites, altering national identities and citizenship criteria. This manipulation, driven by majoritarian ideologies, has marginalized religious minorities, leading to discrimination, violence, and legal persecution against them. Hindu, Islamic, and Buddhist nationalisms seem to collectively erode secular democracy in South Asia. Moreover, right‐wing populist leaders, notably Modi in India and the Rajapaksas in Sri Lanka, have merged religious nationalism with authoritarian political orientations posing a challenge to democratic foundations and impacting significantly on the dynamics of state and societal relations. This is the context in which this World Affairs 2024 special issue delves into the relationship(s) between religion, politics, and authoritarianism in the South Asian region. It examines the evolving "religion‐politics" nexus or "complex" to explicate the relationship between religion and authoritarianism, particularly with respect to authoritarian governments mobilizing religion as a readily available resource for popular political mobilization, legitimization, and power consolidation. India's BJP employs Hindutva ideology to marginalize minorities, Bangladesh's regime uses Islam for political legitimacy, and Sri Lanka's Sinhala‐Buddhist nationalism fosters exclusionary policies. By fostering social and cultural polarization, this fusion of authoritarianism with religious nationalism poses a serious challenge to the secular state. The articles in this special issue explore these themes comprehensively, delving into the ideological foundations of political decisions and their consequences for marginalized communities. The world needs people who understand the crucial importance of global governance. Training students to participate in a Model United Nations (MUN) simulation provides them with the critical thinking, negotiation, and diplomacy skills that prepare them to work in international relations positions and address negotiation and diplomacy challenges. This article provides a fresh look at why MUN is important by analyzing MUN training guides used to teach students how to participate in MUN simulations. It finds that the training guides offer excellent insight into the functions and structure of the United Nations, but little in the form of learning how to negotiate or engage in diplomacy. Specifically missing are discussions of leadership, negotiation from interest, not position (also known as principled negotiation), and how to train students to be inclusive and respond to discrimination or bias during negotiations. The article includes a description of active learning and learner-centered teaching techniques and provides insight into how a specific MUN team implemented professionalism training in the 2010s. The article is written in collaboration between an MUN advisor and students who trained as MUN delegates, integrating the voices and perspectives of those who train and those who are trained. BACKGROUND: Hierarchies are a form of organization, which stratifies individuals or groups based on hierarchical possession in a given environment. Medical education is a highly organized social context where work and learning depend on interaction and are therefore highly influenced by social power and hierarchy. OBJECTIVE: To provide a qualitative approach to the concept, history and aspects involved in the power relations of education in medical residencies. METHODOLOGY: Retrospective study from non-systematic search of the literature was carried out in the databases of PubMed, Elsevier and Google Scholar without time restriction in the Spanish and English languages, selecting free materials and at the discretion of the authors for their objective, the combination of terms was: "Hierarchical relations of power and medical education". RESULTS: About 23,000 writings were found, of which writings that the authors considered relevant for their analysis were chosen without selection criteria. CONCLUSIONS: It is very necessary to move reflectively to a different concept that the one considered hierarchy and that this "hierarchy" to be impregnated with humanistic, ethical values and good social interaction skills, possibly better called "leadership". The study emphasizes the importance of leadership styles and fostering a culture of innovation for driving green creativity in SMEs. Las organizaciones educativas están evolucionando, y los modelos de gestión se están actualizando para abordar las necesidades educativas. En consecuencia, el papel del líder intermedio (LI) ha despertado un interés significativo entre los investigadores. El cambio de un liderazgo singular en las organizaciones a la distribución de responsabilidades entre sus miembros ha llevado a un aumento de la investigación. El objetivo del estudio es analizar el creciente interés en el liderazgo intermedio y la literatura científica publicada. Para lograrlo, se analizó el rendimiento bibliométrico con un enfoque específico en LI en educación. Nuestro conjunto de datos incluye 195 artículos publicados entre 2010 y 2023 en la base de datos de Web of Science (WoS). El análisis bibliométrico determinó la distribución de publicaciones relacionadas, junto con un análisis de los grupos temáticos y conceptos asociados con LI, entre otros datos relevantes. Los resultados indicaron que el LI en educación ha aumentado sustancialmente en los últimos cinco años, y la estructura temática ha pasado de los modelos de gestión tradicionales al estudio de los profesionales de la educación como líderes intermedios. Además, el LI es un tema en crecimiento en la investigación educativa, con temas emergentes para el futuro del liderazgo educativo.

El liderazgo en el ámbito educativo ha sido ampliamente estudiado, en especial, su influencia en los resultados de aprendizaje de estudiantes y el desarrollo profesional docente. El presente artículo tiene por objetivo analizar las prácticas que directores(as) realizan en el marco del fortalecimiento de la colaboración docente y su vinculación con el modelo de Comunidades Profesionales de Aprendizaje (CPA). Se realizó un estudio cualitativo con estrategia de estudio de casos múltiples en cuatro centros educativos públicos chilenos. Se aplicaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a directores(as) y se formaron grupos de discusión con docentes y equipos directivos. Según los resultados, las principales prácticas efectuadas corresponden a reforzar los liderazgos distribuidos, considerando además la ampliación de niveles de participación. Asimismo, se observa la gestión de cambio y la generación de espacios de aprendizaje colectivo entre docentes como factores relevantes que permiten el desarrollo profesional.

La diversidad sexual y de género requiere de estrategias que permitan su visibilización e inclusión dentro de los centros de Educación Secundaria con la finalidad de ofrecer una respuesta adecuada para atender a esta diversidad y contribuir a la eliminación de actitudes de homofobia y transfobia en las aulas. De esta manera, cabe estudiar cómo influye el liderazgo desarrollado por las personas que dirigen los centros educativos para la atención de esta diversidad. Se ha desarrollado una investigación de corte cuantitativo y descriptivo, empleando un cuestionario diseñado ad hoc en el que han participado 123 directores y directoras de Educación Secundaria del territorio nacional a través de un muestreo no probabilístico intencional. Los resultados muestran cómo el sexo, la edad y la rama de conocimiento docente de los directores son factores que influyen en el desarrollo de un modelo de liderazgo transformacional y distribuido en el que el líder motiva y fomenta la innovación entre el profesorado bajo un enfoque de trabajo cooperativo entre todos los agentes de la comunidad. Las conclusiones del estudio reflejan la necesidad de desarrollar un modelo de liderazgo cooperativo entre el profesorado y con toda la comunidad educativa para desarrollar una transformación en pro de una adecuada atención a la diversidad sexual y de género en las aulas.

Este artículo presenta la sistematización del programa de líderes, un ejercicio democrático implementado desde 2017 en la Preparatoria IBERO Puebla, México. El programa, basado en la simulación de procesos electorales mexicanos, busca que los estudiantes experimenten la democracia como una vivencia formativa. El objetivo es fomentar actitudes democráticas a través de la responsabilidad electiva, el servicio y el diálogo, promoviendo el consenso y la mediación para el bien común. Utilizando la metodología de Investigación Acción Participativa, el estudio involucra a toda la comunidad educativa en la construcción de su formación académica y personal. La implementación del programa ha presentado desafíos en la convivencia y el sentido comunitario, tanto en la resolución de problemas educativos cotidianos como en las relaciones interpersonales. Este ejercicio de ciudadanía, resultado de una evaluación crítica por parte de los actores educativos, ha permitido ampliar la perspectiva sobre cómo el diálogo y la reflexión en prácticas democráticas promueven la construcción social. El estudio contribuye a la creciente línea de investigación sobre estrategias pedagógicas que vinculan democracia y ciudadanía en la educación media superior.

El Foresight es una competencia del liderazgo, que permite a los líderes organizacionales adoptar una perspectiva de futuro que facilita la formulación de una Visión Normativa (noción de trascendencia hacia el largo plazo de tiempo) para la toma de decisiones. La competencia se manifiesta cuando los líderes enfrentan cuestiones relacionadas con el futuro y sus decisiones estratégicas de tipo complejo y de largo plazo. Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo la adaptación y validación del instrumento Foresight Styles Assessment (FSA) a la idiosincrasia latinoamericana y en idioma español, quedando denominado como Evaluación de Estilos de Foresight (EEF) con el fin de que sea una herramienta confiable para medir la competencia del Foresight en los líderes de las organizaciones de habla hispana, en especial para Colombia, y evaluar sus propiedades psicométricas. El instrumento pasó por tres fases, la primera fue una adaptación cultural, la segunda fase fue su traducción asertiva al español, consolidando un instrumento en español de 23 ítems. La tercera fase fue la validación del instrumento con una muestra depurada de 118 individuos relacionados al programa de Extensionismo Tecnológico, aplicándoles el instrumento EEF de 26 ítems con respuesta tipo Likert el cual entregó un alfa de Cronbach de 0.981, mostrando un ajuste satisfactorio. Además, se utilizaron las técnicas estadísticas de Análisis Factorial (AF), el Análisis Factorial Confirmatorio (AFC) y el Modelado de Ecuaciones Estructurales (MEE); confirmando cuatro constructos o variables latentes (Framer/Enmarcador, Adapter/Adaptador, Tester/Experimentador y Reactor/Resistente), reduciendo las preguntas a 23 ítems para Colombia. El EEF es una herramienta útil en la de toma de decisiones por parte de los líderes que integran las organizaciones, permitiendo mejorar su visión, competitividad y perdurabilidad.

In the last two decades, various authors (Rosanvallon 2009; Annunziata 2015; Saward 2010) have pointed out the insufficiency of electoral representation for current democracies and the need to think about representation in a permanent way and consider the interaction between leadership, representation and communication. Currently, leaders make continuous use of the tools of political communication to build and consolidate their status as representatives. In this article we argue that leaders develop a representative narrative that aims to transmit their political message and shape political identities. The representative narrative is the fundamental instrument in the process of representative vindication mentioned by Saward (2006), since through this set of stories the leaders vindicate their condition as leaders, present a type of citizen whom they aspire to represent and expose a collective history in which they project a future horizon. This article identifies the discursive strategy of "extreme or radical" leaderships. With that in mind, it inquires the discursive content of Javier Milei's campaign closings before the Open Simultaneous and Obligatory Primaries (PASO) and the general elections, celebrated between August and October 2023 in Argentina, from a sociosemiotic perspective. The study concludes that Javier Milei's leadership generated attraction and adherence by a "rhetoric of rejection" towards "the political caste" during the first closing and by a "hyperbolic rhetoric", as the "resurrection or illumination" of the hero was witnessed, during the second campaign closing. In this manner, it advances in the knowledge of a case that, because of its novelty, remains little explored and delineates possible investigation agendas around leaderships and democratic quality. In today's digitized world, digital competences are required to facilitate the transition to the Internet. For professorship, these competences go beyond knowledge of a particular subject. They focus on the skills needed to transmit that knowledge to students. A quantitative approach study was applied. The design was non-experimental and descriptive. The population and sample correspond to the 70 teachers who worked in the Faculty of Humanistic and Social Sciences during the first semester of 2023. The instrument for data collection was a teaching self-assessment. The competencies in digital citizenship showed the highest levels of teacher mastery with a value of 5. The competencies in pedagogy and professional development showed a value of 4. 93% of UTM-CHS teachers stated they had participated in training activities on the use of ICT in education. In conclusion, university faculty in Ecuador must have a stronger digital academic background; they must establish better pedagogical and professional development skills, research capacity, knowledge of educational technologies, intercultural skills and leadership skills. To ensure a high-quality learning environment all three areas must be at the same level of outcomes. For that, university professional development leads to establishing good pedagogy.
