The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) recently published its Semi-Annual Report to Congress, detailing its activities from October 2022 to March 2023. CFPB Director Rohit Chopra testified before the House Financial Services Committee and the Senate Banking Committee, discussing the state of the consumer financial services marketplace. He highlighted high levels of consumer debt, particularly in credit card and auto lending markets. Director Chopra also mentioned the Bureau's proposed rule to implement Dodd-Frank Section 1033, efforts to address "junk fees," and the Bureau's supervision and enforcement efforts, which have resulted in $8 billion in penalties and redress. He also expressed concerns about the role of artificial intelligence in financial services. [Extracted from the article]
