Most low infrared emissivity coatings for anti‐infrared reconnaissance are merely suitable for targets warmer than their surroundings, and their flexibility and wearability are unsatisfactory for dynamic stealth applications. Herein, a spectral‐selective and adjustable patterned polydimethylsiloxane/MXene/nanoporous polytetrafluoroethylene metafabric with an asymmetric structure is designed, which achieves spectral selectivity of reflection/emission in mid‐infrared wavebands and synchronous reflection/absorption of solar light, integrating “shielded infrared stealth” and “compensatory thermal camouflage” in temperature‐change scenarios. By synergizing the low infrared emissivity of MXene and the effective heat‐transfer suppression of the patterned polydimethylsiloxane, the metafabric obtains an infrared emissivity of as low as ≈28% and minimizes the radiative temperature difference between a target of 36 °C and its low‐temperature surroundings even to 2.5 °C. Conversely, the metafabric adaptively unitizes its surface infrared signature with its high‐temperature background via the thermal energy compensation supplied by the solar‐thermal/electrothermal conversion of MXene and the powerful radiation emission of the outer polydimethylsiloxane. Besides, the metafabric creates a comfortable skin‐interface microclimate by the high solar‐light reflection of the nanoporous polytetrafluoroethylene and exhibits satisfactory electromagnetic interference shielding performances, mechanical flexibility, self‐cleaning, and antioxidation. The Ti 3 C 2 @Qu nanocomposites are constructed by utilizing the high photothermal conversion ability of Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets in combination with quercetin (Qu) as an inhibitor of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70). Qu molecules are loaded onto the nanoplatform in a pH-sensitive controlled release manner. The acidic environment of the tumor causes the burst-release of Qu molecules, which deplete the level of HSP70 in tumor cells and leave the tumor cells out from the protection of the heat-resistant survival pathway in advance, thus sensitizing the hyperthermia efficacy. However, PTT also suffers from intrinsic cancer resistance mediated by cell survival pathways. These survival pathways are regulated by a variety of proteins, among which heat shock protein (HSP) triggers thermotolerance and protects tumor cells from hyperthermia-induced apoptosis. Confronted by this challenge, we propose and validate here a novel MXene-based HSP-inhibited mild photothermal platform, which significantly enhances the sensitivity of tumor cells to heat-induced stress and thus improves the PPT efficacy. Considering that CO2 reduction is mostly a multielectron reaction, it is necessary for the photocatalysts to integrate multiple catalytic sites and cooperate synergistically to achieve efficient photocatalytic CO2 reduction to various products, such as C2 hydrocarbons. Herein, through crystal engineering, we designed and constructed a metal–organic framework‐derived Zr/Ti bimetallic oxide solid solution support, which was confirmed by X‐ray diffraction, electron microscopy and X‐ray absorption spectroscopy. After anchoring Au nanoparticles, the composite photocatalyst exhibited excellent performances toward photocatalytic CO2 reduction to syngas (H2 and CO production rates of 271.6 and 260.6 μmol g−1 h−1) and even C2 hydrocarbons (C2H4 and C2H6 production rates of 6.80 and 4.05 μmol g−1 h−1). Background: Regulatory actions are increasingly used to tackle issues such as excessive alcohol or sugar intake, but such actions to reduce sedentary behaviour remain scarce. World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on sedentary behaviour call for system-wide policies. The Chinese government introduced the world's first nation-wide multi-setting regulation on multiple types of sedentary behaviour in children and adolescents in July 2021. This regulation restricts when (and for how long) online gaming businesses can provide access to pupils; the amount of homework teachers can assign to pupils according to their year groups; and when tutoring businesses can provide lessons to pupils. We evaluated the effect of this regulation on sedentary behaviour safeguarding pupils. Methods: With a natural experiment evaluation design, we used representative surveillance data from 9- to 18-year-old pupils before and after the introduction of the regulation, for longitudinal (n = 7,054, matched individuals, primary analysis) and repeated cross-sectional (n = 99,947, exploratory analysis) analyses. We analysed pre-post differences for self-reported sedentary behaviour outcomes (total sedentary behaviour time, screen viewing time, electronic device use time, homework time, and out-of-campus learning time) using multilevel models, and explored differences by sex, education stage, residency, and baseline weight status. Results: Longitudinal analyses indicated that pupils had reduced their mean total daily sedentary behaviour time by 13.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: -15.9 to -11.7%, approximately 46 min) and were 1.20 times as likely to meet international daily screen time recommendations (95% CI: 1.01 to 1.32) one month after the introduction of the regulation compared to the reference group (before its introduction). They were on average 2.79 times as likely to meet the regulatory requirement on homework time (95% CI: 2.47 to 3.14) than the reference group and reduced their daily total screen-viewing time by 6.4% (95% CI: -9.6 to -3.3%, approximately 10 min). The positive effects were more pronounced among high-risk groups (secondary school and urban pupils who generally spend more time in sedentary behaviour) than in low-risk groups (primary school and rural pupils who generally spend less time in sedentary behaviour). The exploratory analyses showed comparable findings. Conclusions: This regulatory intervention has been effective in reducing total and specific types of sedentary behaviour among Chinese children and adolescents, with the potential to reduce health inequalities. Systematically determine the effectiveness and users' perceptions of upper extremity (UE) exoskeletons and robot-assisted devices for pediatric rehabilitation. PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library were searched for studies with "exoskeletons"/"robot-assisted devices", children with disabilities, effectiveness data, and English publication. Intervention effectiveness outcomes were classified within components of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health, Children and Youth Version (ICF-CY). Secondary data (users' perceptions; implementation setting) were extracted. Risk of bias and methodological quality were assessed. Descriptive analyses were performed. Seventy-two articles were included. Most evaluated body structure and function and activity outcomes with less emphasis on participation. Most effects across all ICF-CY levels were positive. Devices were primarily evaluated in clinical or laboratory rather than natural environments. Perceptions about device effectiveness were mostly positive, while those about expression, accessibility, and esthetics were mostly negative. A need for increased rigor in research study design was detected. Across populations, devices, settings, interventions, and dosing schedules, UE exoskeletons and robot-assisted devices may improve function, activity, and perhaps participation for children with physical disabilities. Future work should transition devices into natural environments, design devices and implementation strategies to address users' negative perceptions, and increase research rigor. This study aimed to analyze the independent risk factors for predicting preeclampsia severity and explore its underlying mechanism. Clinical data of patients with preeclampsia were collected from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to assess the significant factors associated with preeclampsia severity. Additionally, we performed multivariate logistic regression analysis and mediation analysis to investigate the potential regulatory path. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 731 participants were enrolled: severe preeclampsia (n = 381) and mild to moderate preeclampsia (n = 350). Age, white blood cells (WBC), platelet, creatinine, albumin, uric acid, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, international normalized ratio, and prothrombin time were significantly related to preeclampsia severity. Besides, hospital length of stay was significantly higher in the severe group. Notably, age and uric acid were independent predictors for preeclampsia severity. Further, WBC and creatinine were significantly associated with uric acid. Finally, the mediation analysis showed that uric acid was a mediator of the relationship between WBC and preeclampsia severity. In conclusion, WBC might affect preeclampsia severity and progression via the mediation of uric acid. This study might provide novel insight into preventing preeclampsia development. Fetal development is one of the most sensitive windows to methylmercury (MeHg) toxicity. Laboratory and epidemiological studies have shown a dose–response relationship between fetal MeHg exposure and neuro performance in different life stages from infants to adults. In addition, MeHg exposure has been reported to be associated with disorders in endoderm-derived organs, such as morphological changes in liver cells and pancreatic cell dysfunctions. However, the mechanisms of the effects of MeHg on non-neuronal organs or systems, especially during the early development of endoderm-derived organs, remain unclear. Here we determined the effects of low concentrations of MeHg exposure during the differentiation of definitive endoderm (DE) cells from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). hESCs were exposed to MeHg (0, 10, 100, and 200 nM) that covers the range of Hg concentrations typically found in human maternal blood during DE cell induction. Transcriptomic analysis showed that sub-lethal doses of MeHg exposure could alter global gene expression patterns during hESC to DE cell differentiation, leading to increased expression of endodermal genes/proteins and the over-promotion of endodermal fate, mainly through disrupting calcium homeostasis and generating ROS. Bioinformatic analysis results suggested that MeHg exerts its developmental toxicity mainly by disrupting ribosome biogenesis during early cell lineage differentiation. This disruption could lead to aberrant growth or dysfunctions of the developing endoderm-derived organs, and it may be the underlying mechanism for the observed congenital diseases later in life. Background: Group Model Building (GMB) is a participatory system dynamics method increasingly used to address complex public health issues like obesity. GMB represents a set of well-defined steps to engage key stakeholders to identify shared drivers and solutions of a given problem. However, GMB has not yet been applied specifically to develop multi-duty interventions that address multiple inter-related issues such as malnutrition in all its forms (MIAIF). Moreover, a recent systematic review of empirical applications of a systems approach to developing obesity interventions found no published work from non-western, low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In this paper we describe adaptations and innovations to a common GMB process to co-develop systemic MIAIF interventions with Chinese decision-makers. Methods: We developed, piloted and implemented multiple cultural adaptations and two methodological innovations to the commonly used GMB process in Fang Cheng Gang city, China. We included formal, ceremonial and policy maker engagement events before and between GMB workshops, and incorporated culturally tailored arrangements during participant recruitment (officials of the same seniority level joined the same workshop) and workshop activities (e.g., use of individual scoring activities and hand boards). We made changes to the commonly used GMB activities which enabled mapping of shared drivers of multiple health issues (in our case MIAIF) in a single causal loop diagram. We developed and used a 'hybrid' GMB format combining online and in person facilitation to reduce travel and associated climate impact. Results: Our innovative GMB process led to high engagement and support from decision-makers representing diverse governmental departments across the whole food systems. We co-identified and prioritised systemic drivers and intervention themes of MIAIF. The city government established an official Local Action Group for long-term, inter-departmental implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the co-developed interventions. The 'hybrid' GMB format enabled great interactions while reducing international travel and mitigating limitations of fully online GMB process. Conclusions: Cultural and methodological adaptations to the common GMB process for an Asian LMIC setting were successful. The 'hybrid' GMB format is feasible, cost-effective, and more environmentally friendly. An extensive numerical investigation is carried out to study the effects of single-slot bleed and porous bleed on the flow separation control in a transonic compressor stator. Two single slots in different locations and three staggered rows of circular holes are placed on the suction surface. Five bleed pressure ratios are examined for each bleed scheme at the design inlet Mach number of 1.0. The numerical results show that the porous bleed performs similar to the downstream slot bleed in terms of pressure loss control when the bleed pressure ratio is below 1.0. The maximum relative reduction in total pressure loss is 73%. The stable working range of downstream slot bleed is between 0.75 and 1.0 bleed pressure ratio, which is narrower than the range of porous bleed. The bleeding acceleration and favorable pressure gradients on the suction surface are key reasons for keeping the boundary layer from separating. The position of the aft edge of the bleed configuration is a critical parameter. It determines the ultimate range of adverse pressure gradients that the blade surface boundary layer needs to withstand. The similar performance of porous bleed and slot bleed is caused by their identical aft edge position. The high shock losses caused by a single shock wave result in a narrow stable working range for single-slot bleed. Multiple shocks and side bleeding in porous bleed mitigate the influences of shock wave losses and extend its working range. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ability of various pests and diseases to adapt to a single plant resistance gene over time leads to loss of resistance in transgenic rice. Therefore, introduction of different pest and disease resistance genes is critical for successful cultivation of transgenic rice strains with broad-spectrum resistance to multiple pathogens. Here, we produced resistance rice lines with multiple, stacked resistance genes by stacking breeding and comprehensively evaluated their resistance to Chilo suppressalis (striped rice stemborer), Magnaporthe oryzae (rice blast), and Nilaparvata lugens (brown planthopper) in a pesticide-free environment. CRY1C and CRY2A are exogenous genes from Bacillus thuringiensis. Pib, Pikm, and Bph29 are natural genes in rice. CH121TJH was introduced into CRY 1C, Pib, Pikm, and Bph29. CH891TJH and R205XTJH were introduced into CRY 2A, Pib, Pikm, and Bph29. Compared with those observed in their recurrent parents, CH121TJH significantly increased the mortality of borers. The other two lines CH891TJH and R205XTJH are the same result. Three lines introduction of Pib and Pikm significantly reduced the area of rice blast lesions, and introduction of Bph29 significantly reduced seedling mortality from N. lugens. Introduction of the exogenous genes had relatively few effects on agronomic and yield traits of the original parents. These findings suggest that stacking of rice resistance genes through molecular marker-assisted backcross breeding can confer broad spectrum and multiple resistance in differently genetic backgrounds. Evidence suggests that exposure to coal dust increases immunoglobulin concentration. However, there is a paucity of data reporting immunoglobulin G (IgG) subclass in coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP). Therefore, this study intended to evaluate potential diagnostic biomarkers for the disease. CWP patients, dust-exposed workers without pneumoconiosis (DEW), and matched healthy controls (HCs) presented to the General Hospital of Datong Coal Mining Group and Occupational Disease Prevention and Treatment Hospital of Datong Coal Mining Group between May 2019 and September 2019 were recruited. The serum immunoglobulin concentration was determined by the multiplex immunoassay technique. Totally, 104 CWP patients, 109 DEWs, and 74 HCs were enrolled. Serum levels of IgG1, IgG2, IgM, and IgA were elevated in CWPs compared with those in DEWs and HCs (P < 0.05). The order of diagnostic accuracy between CWPs and DEWs depicted by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was IgG2, IgM, IgG1, IgG3, and IgA. Significantly higher IgG1/IgG3 and IgG2/IgG3 ratios were observed in the CWP group than in DEW and HC groups. Based on the IgG2/IgG3 ratio, the area under the ROC curve between CWP and DEW was 0.785 (95% CI 0.723-0.838), with a sensitivity of 73.1% and a specificity of 73.4%. Our findings suggest that IgG1, IgG2, IgM, and IgA are higher in the CWPs than DEWs and HCs. The IgG2/IgG3 ratio provides a viable alternative for the diagnosis of CWP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Invasive alien plants have rapidly established and spread in nature reserves via roads and now pose a threat to biodiversity. To understand the mechanism and distribution patterns of invasive alien herbs, we compared the altitude patterns of native and invasive alien herbs based on 105 plots in the Dayao Mountain National Nature Reserve. This study also compared the distribution patterns of new (introduced to China after 1900) and old (introduced to China before 1900) invasive alien herbs. In addition, we examined the effects of climatic factors and human activities on the distribution patterns of species richness. In our study, 151 native herbs species and 18 invasive alien herbs species were observed, of which 12 were new invasive alien herbs. Old invasive alien herbs occurred more frequently and occupied a wider range of altitudes than new invasive alien herbs. The richness of native herbs tended to decrease with increasing altitude, and the altitude patterns of the richness of all invasive herbs and new invasive alien herbs were hump-shaped. Based on an analysis using the linear mixed model, the results indicated that temperature was the main factor limiting the altitude patterns of native herbs, and that temperature and human activities were essential factors in the distribution and spread of all invasive alien herbs and new invasive alien herbs. Fleshy fruit texture is a critically important quality characteristic of ripe fruit. Softening is an irreversible process which operates in most fleshy fruits during ripening which, together with changes in color and taste, contributes to improvements in mouthfeel and general attractiveness. Softening results mainly from the expression of genes encoding enzymes responsible for cell wall modifications but starch degradation and high levels of flavonoids can also contribute to texture change. Some fleshy fruit undergo lignification during development and post‐harvest, which negatively affects eating quality. Excessive softening can also lead to physical damage and infection, particularly during transport and storage which causes severe supply chain losses. Many transcription factors (TFs) that regulate fruit texture by controlling the expression of genes involved in cell wall and starch metabolism have been characterized. Some TFs directly regulate cell wall targets, while others act as part of a broader regulatory program governing several aspects of the ripening process. In this review, we focus on advances in our understanding of the transcriptional regulatory mechanisms governing fruit textural change during fruit development, ripening and post‐harvest. Armature is the key component of electromagnetic launcher (EML), but in the process of launching, its working environment is bad and the surface is seriously worn. Excessive wear will seriously weaken the mechanical properties of armature and affect the launching safety. Therefore, it is necessary to deal with the surface state of armature to reduce wear and improve the performance of armature. First, the properties of the candidate materials are analyzed. According to the principle of maximum current carrying capacity per unit mass, aluminum is the most suitable material for armature manufacturing. At the same time, the defects of material selection in single material system are pointed out. Second, based on the above problems, the surface coating design scheme is proposed. From the point of view of material melting point and hardness, it is proposed that tungsten can be used as the coating material for armature surface. According to the wear amount of armature tail under launch condition, the coating shape and thickness are designed. The best coating forming process is determined by calculating the shear force between coating and substrate; finally, the effect of the coating on the electric contact performance, system efficiency, and projectile gouging threshold velocity is analyzed. The results show that the maximum shear force between the coating and the substrate is above 171 MPa under the launching condition, and the laser cladding technology can meet the process requirements. After coating treatment, the contact resistance between the armature and rail (AR) increases by 6%, which has little effect on the system efficiency. Although it will affect the projectile gouging threshold velocity, it can be improved by modifying the tungsten coating or rail surface treatment. The selective detection of hydrogen sulfide in physiological and pathological processes has gained substantial attention in recent years. However, the real-time detection of hydrogen sulfide remains an elusive goal. In this work, a new type of hemicyanidin-based fluorescent "turn-on" probe NTR-HS (Ex = 680 nm, Em = 760 nm) was developed to detected H2S in a very short time (3 min). The fluorescence quantum yield is 0.15 and accompanied with a noticeable color change from violet to blue that can be used to detect H2S in the range 1.04 × 10−7–4 × 10−5 M with a limit of detection of 1.04 x 10-7 M. The NTR-HS probe was also used for imaging of endogenous hydrogen sulfide and mitochondrial localization in HCT116 and HeLa cells. The detection mechanism was studied through fluorescence, UV–Vis, NMR, and mass analysis. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents the most common chronic liver disease worldwide, ranging from simple steatosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Acupuncture is a long-established treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. In recent years, increasing evidence has pointed to the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of NAFLD, and a certain degree of progress has been made in the study of related mechanisms. However, previous systematic reviews have not discussed the characteristics and the related mechanisms of acupuncture in the treatment of NAFLD. Therefore, this review synthesizes the progress in research on acupuncture in the context of NAFLD treatment by the inhibition of inflammatory responses, regulation of lipid metabolism disorder, treatment of insulin resistance, antagonization of oxidative stress injury, and interference with endoplasmic reticulum stress. Therefore, more and more ice and snow sports lovers are eager to solve this problem. This paper designs a path planning method based on three-dimensional ice and snow model. The path planning method of moving snow and ice based on MNN (Multiclass Neural Networks) algorithm is studied from many aspects. MNN algorithm is used for comprehensive analysis and evaluation. The mobile phone provides data information on key nodes, air resistance, momentum change, ice and snow movement track, and so on. The crack resistance performance of concrete materials, characterized by tensile strength and fracture toughness, is vital for the durability and structural functionality of concrete components. In this study, polyoxymethylene (POM) fibers were added into concrete to enhance the crack resistance. Firstly, three-point-bending (3-p-b) tests and splitting tension tests were performed on notched beam and cubic specimens of plain concrete and POM fiber reinforced concrete. Then, considering the heterogeneity of concrete, the 3-p-b and splitting tension test results were analyzed to reveal the failure behaviors of plain concrete and POM fiber reinforced concrete materials. It was found that the addition of POM fibers was beneficial for improving the fracture resistance of concrete. The Boundary Effect Model (BEM) was used to estimate the tensile strength and fracture toughness of plain concrete and POM fiber reinforced concrete materials from the 3-p-b test results, which correlated well with those obtained from the splitting tension tests and the conventional method. Moreover, the influence of POM fiber length and volume fraction on fracture resistance was evaluated. Main observation and conclusion: We report the design, synthesis, structure, and properties of two complex layered phosphide nitrides, AkTh2Mn4P4N2 (Ak = Rb, Cs), which contain anti‐fluorite‐type [Mn2P2] bilayers separated by fluorite‐type [Th2N2] layers as a result of the intergrowth between AkMn2P2 and ThMnPN. The new compounds are featured with an intrinsic hole doping associated with the interlayer charge transfer and a built‐in chemical pressure from the [Th2N2] layers, both of which are reflected by the changes in the lattice and the atomic position of phosphorus. The measurements of magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and specific heat indicate existence of local moments as well as itinerant electrons in relation with d‐p hybridizations. The expected dominant antiferromagnetic interactions with enhanced d‐p hybridizations were demonstrated by the first‐principles calculations only when additional Coulomb repulsions are included. The density of states at the Fermi level derived from the specific‐heat analysis are 3.5 and 7.5 times of the calculated ones for Ak = Rb and Cs, respectively, suggesting strong electron correlations in the title compounds. An accurate estimation of forest aboveground biomass (AGB) is important for carbon accounting. In this study, six methods, including partial least squares regression, regression kriging, k-nearest neighbour, support vector machines, random forest and high accuracy surface modelling (HASM), were used to simulate forest AGB. Forest AGB was mapped by combining Geoscience Laser Altimeter System data, optical imagery and field inventory data. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Wide Dynamic Range Vegetation Index (WDRVI0.2) of September and October, which had a stronger correlation with forest AGB than that of the peak growing season, were selected as predictor variables, along with tree cover percentage and three GLAS-derived parameters. The results of the different methods were evaluated. The HASM model had the best modelling accuracy (small MAE, RMSE, NRMSE, RMSV and NMSE and large R2). The electrochemical performance of supercapacitors drops precipitously at extreme low temperatures due to a multitude of reasons, which includes electrolyte freezing, sluggish ion transport in the electrode and electrolyte, and high charge transfer resistance at electrode–electrolyte interfaces. To address high interface resistance, a new supercapacitor architecture is reported, in which MXene/carbon nanotube electrodes with vertically aligned channels are synthesized to reduce tortuosity and maximize the electrode–electrolyte contact area. These electrodes are fabricated using a directional‐freezing strategy, generating direct and fast ion transport pathways. Further, a freeze‐resistant electrolyte which shows high ionic conductivity is synthesized by designing a double‐crosslinked polymer network in a binary solvent consisting of ionic liquid and water, which exhibits an ultralow freezing temperature of −54 °C. An all‐in‐one supercapacitor is assembled by an integrated polymerization strategy to minimize interfacial resistances. The resulting device delivers a specific capacitance of 231 F g−1 at 2 mV s−1 and a maximum energy density of 10.17 Wh kg−1, while maintaining a capacitance retention of 92%, even at an extreme low temperature of −50 °C. Background: Various primer and probe sets have been developed and standardized, but certain sets may have low efficiency or miss some stx-subtypes. Objective: To compare the efficiency of the recommended stx screening primers and probe sets in four standardized methods and develop a new primers and probe system with an internal amplification control (IAC) for all known stx2 subtypes. Method: The inclusivity and specificity of recommended screening primers and probe sets in four standardized methods were compared. A new pan-stx2 primer and probe set was adapted from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) method for all known stx2 subtypes. The robustness of the new method was assessed in seven laboratories and also assessed in ground beef and bean sprout samples. Results: None of the recommended screening primers and probe sets in the four standardized methods could efficiently amplify all the stx2 subtypes because of various mismatches in the primers or the probe sequences. A new primers and probe system adapted from the ISO method, through introducing degenerate bases in primers and probe sequences with an IAC, showed high amplification efficiency and specificity for all known stx2 subtypes in ground beef and bean sprouts samples. The specificity of the new method was assessed in seven laboratories and showed robust and consistent results. Conclusions: This study provided evidence for Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) screening method development, and the newly developed primers and probes system should be considered in the revision of the standardized methods. The increasing emergence of nano-cosmetics in the marketplace provokes safety concerns with respect to percutaneous permeation and toxicity of nanomaterials inside the human body. In this study, in vivo percutaneous permeation and dermal safety of cosmetic cream containing Au nanosheets and extracted Au nanosheets from cosmetic creams are investigated with guinea pigs. Quantitative percutaneous permeation data suggests that Au nanosheets in cosmetic creams permeate into the skin epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous layer after 10 d cutaneous exposure, but cannot enter the systemic circulation. However, more Au nanosheets are accumulated in the skin and the permeation of Au nanosheets increased after embedded into the cream matrix. Synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence (SRXRF) imaging reveals that Au nanosheets in cosmetics penetrate mainly through hair follicles in a time-dependent manner. Cosmetic creams rather than extracted Au nanosheets decrease the cell viability of keratinocytes and slightly induce apoptosis/necrosis of keratinocytes and skin dermal fibroblasts. Intriguingly, the growth of hair is inhibited by the cosmetic cream and the extracted Au nanosheets revealed by HE staining and immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay. Altogether this study provides insights into the comprehensive understanding of percutaneous permeation and dermal safety of cosmetic creams containing Au nanosheets. This work provides reliable methods to study the skin permeation, biodistribution, and dermal safety of nano-cosmetics and reminds the community of the crucial need to combine the assays at molecular, cellular, and organ levels in nanotoxicology research. We report the structural and physical properties of new nitridoborates R NiBN (R = Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er). These compounds crystallize in a tetragonal LaNiBN-type structure with two-dimensional Ni 2 B 2 and R N layers. The physical properties measurements indicate that they are antiferromagnetic metals. For R = Gd and Ho, a successive magnetic transition was observed below N é el temperature, possibly associated with spin re-orientation due to Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction. A giant magnetocaloric effect was measured in the R = Er and Ho compounds, which is related to a field-induced first-order metamagnetic transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic state. Rosanortriterpenes A–B (RTA and RTB), two nortriterpenoids, are characteristic constituents in the fruits of Rosa laevigata var. leiocapus. However, pharmacological studies on these compounds are still scarce. In the present study, we aim to investigate the anti-inflammatory mechanisms associated with the effects of RTA–B in RAW264.7 macrophages and LO2 cells by detecting cell viabilities, nitric oxide (NO) production, tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) production. Simultaneously, the anti-inflammatory action mechanisms of these two compounds were illustrated through western blot assay. Besides, the antihepatic fibrosis activities of these compounds have also been explored. The results demonstrated that RTA and RTB inhibited the production of NO, TNF-α, and IL-6 and suppressed liver fibrosis. RTA and RTB treatment also greatly inhibited the activation of NF-kappaB (NF-κB) pathway. Our study confirmed the promising anti-inflammatory and anti-liver fibrosis actions of RTA–B, suggesting that they might be developed as alternative and promising drugs for the treatment of hepatic inflammatory and fibrotic diseases. Background: Predictors besides symptoms of obstruction indicating small bowel stenosis are little known.Aims: To detect predictors of small bowel stenosis in balloon-assisted enteroscopy.Methods: Over a 6-year period, 461 patients had enteroscopy for suspected small intestinal disease. Details of clinical manifestations, medical history, demographic characteristics, findings of examinations, information on enteroscopy, and treatment were retrospectively collected based on medical records. Small bowel stenosis was defined as stricture that over-tube cannot go through in enteroscopy. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify predictors for small bowel stenosis.Results: A total of 314 patients had definite diagnosis after enteroscopy, imaging modalities, and/or even surgical exploration. They were included in this study for analyses. Mean age for them was 48.2 years old (range 15-81 years). Small bowel stenosis was present in 59 patients (18.8%). Analyses showed that CT/MRI indicating stenosis was significantly associated with severe stenosis (p = 0.014) but insignificant related to general stenosis (p = 0.097). Predictive factors that accompanied stenosis were age ≥ 60 years (OR = 2.1, 95% CI 1.1-4.0), underweight (BMI ≤ 18.5) (OR = 3.4, 95% CI 1.4-8.4), symptoms of obstruction (OR = 3.6, 95% CI 1.8-7.4), and overt small bowel bleeding (OR = 0.5, 95% CI 0.2-0.9).Conclusions: Small bowel stenosis more tended to occur to patients with symptoms of obstruction, no overt small bowel bleeding, age ≥ 60 years, or underweight. BACKGROUND: Epidemiological evidence for the association between traffic-related noise and the incidence of major cardiovascular events such as acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and congestive heart failure (CHF) is inconclusive, especially in North America. OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the associations between long-term exposure to road traffic noise and the incidence of AMI and CHF. METHODS: Our study population comprised ~1 million people 30–100 years of age who lived in Toronto, Canada, from 2001 to 2015 and were free of AMI (referred to as the AMI cohort) or CHF (the CHF cohort) at baseline. Outcomes were ascertained from health administrative databases using validated algorithms. Annual average noise levels were estimated as the A-weighted equivalent sound pressure level over the 24-h period (LAeq24) and during nighttime (LAeqNight), respectively, using propagation modeling, and assigned to participants’ annual six-digit postal code addresses during follow-up. We calculated hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for incident AMI and CHF in relation to LAeq24 and LAeqNight using random-effects Cox proportional hazards models adjusting for individual- and census tract–level covariates, including traffic-related air pollutants [e.g., ultrafine particles (UFPs) and nitrogen dioxide]. RESULTS: During follow-up, there were 37,441 AMI incident cases and 95,138 CHF incident cases. Each interquartile range change in LAeq24 was associated with an increased risk of incident AMI (HR = 1:07; 95% CI: 1.06, 1.08) and CHF (HR = 1:07; 95% CI: 1.06, 1.09). Similarly, LAeqNight was associated with incident AMI (HR = 1:07; 95% CI: 1.05, 1.08) and CHF (HR = 1:06; 95% CI: 1.05, 1.07). These results were robust to various sensitivity analyses and remained elevated after controlling for long-term exposure to UFPs and nitrogen dioxide. We found near-linear relationships between noise and the incidence of AMI and CHF with no evidence of threshold values. The Yangtze River estuary (YRE) is an important migration channel and foraging habitat for Coilia nasus. Due to its ecological significance and a prioritization of this species' protection, the need to investigate and analyze environmental relationships of the abundance of Coilia nasus in the YRE as well as develop an understanding of their temporal and spatial distributions is becoming exceedingly important. Using fishery data and environmental survey data from 2009 to 2016, three models including generalized additive mixed models (GAMM), generalized additive models with zero‐inflated Poisson distribution (ZIP‐GAM) and two‐step GAM were used to analyze relationships between environmental factors and the distribution of Coilia nasus in the YRE. The results showed that model fitting of GAMM was more consistent with observations and revealed influences of water temperature, salinity, chlorophyll, and pH on distribution. GAMM demonstrated that higher Coilia nasus abundances were located in waters with water temperature values at 15°C and 30°C, and lower Coilia nasus abundances were located in areas with water temperature values at 10°C and 20°C. All models indicated that the effect of salinity on abundance of Coilia nasus present a multimodal pattern including three peaks at 5, 15, and 25 ppt respectively. Additionally, abundance of Coilia nasus increased with the increase of chlorophyll A in its range of 0–4 mg/L. In a range of 8.0–9.5, higher PH value was more suitable for the aggregation of Coilia nasus. Cross validation was used to evaluate the predictive performance of models and GAMM was found to be the best. The predicted abundance distribution of Coilia nasus in the summer and autumn of 2016 was relatively higher overall than that in winter and spring. The predicted zero abundance distribution pattern was consistent with the sampling presence distribution which was obtained using fishery independent survey data of the year 2009–2015. A permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo system is a multivariable, strong coupling, and complex nonlinear system. Thus, changing the system parameters and control gains can reduce the control performance of the system. To effectively restrain the influence of parameter perturbation on the system performance, a performance control method of PMSM was presented in this study. The method based on the nonlinear dynamic model of PMSM was employed to analyze the chaotic characteristics of bifurcation diagram, attractor, power spectrum, and Lyapunov exponent. The uncertainty model of the system was constructed, two control methods of robust guaranteed performance and robust optimal guaranteed performance were designed, and the effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by simulation experiments. Results demonstrate that, on the one hand, the two designed control methods can quickly switch the system balance point, and the guaranteed performance control method is approximately 1.5 s. Furthermore, the optimal guaranteed performance control is within 1 s, and the optimal guaranteed performance control can ensure the minimum secondary performance index, that is, the minimum control energy is required. On the other hand, the two designed methods have a strong robust performance to the parameter uncertainty of the system. The system parameters have 30% random perturbation, but the designed methods can still achieve system control effectively. Objective: Some gastrointestinal subepithelial tumors (SETs) have malignant potential and complete resection may be required. However, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) can be a tedious procedure and requires a long and extensive training to master. Devices for endoscopic full‐thickness resection (EFTR) are limited and are not widely available. We report here a simpler endoscopic method to resect small SETs using a commercially available endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) kit and enucleation technique. Methods: All patients with SET who underwent device‐assisted resection at our tertiary care hospital from April 2015 to November 2016 were enrolled in this retrospective study. All procedures were performed by a single expert endoscopist with an advanced endoscopy trainee. A mucosectomy and a limited dissection under mucosa were performed to preserve the mucosa before a device‐assisted enucleation of the tumor to facilitate endoscopic closure of the defect closure in all cases. Results: A total of 12 patients aged 38–70 y, of whom six were males, were included. Most of the tumors originated from the muscularis propria and were located at the proximal gastric body. The mean procedural duration was 53 minutes (range 23‐91 min). The average size of the lesions was 13 mm (range 9–21 mm). The mean duration of hospitalization was 1.3 days. Bleeding and intentional perforation were all successfully managed during the procedure and did not result in any clinically significant adverse event. Conclusion: A device‐assisted EFTR using a commercially available EMR kit is a safe and feasible method for the endoscopic resection of small gastric extrovert SETs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

For Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) patients, small bowel polyps develop and result in symptoms at an early age. Balloon-assisted enteroscopy (BAE) is verified as a safe and efficient choice to evaluate and remove small intestinal polyps in adult PJS. But the safety of BAE, especially BAE-facilitated polypectomy for young pediatrics, is little known. This prospective study focused on the effectiveness and safety of BAE-facilitated polypectomy in small bowel for young pediatric PJS. PJS patients (aged 0-14 years old) with BAE (including both single-balloon and double-balloon enteroscopies) were included from 1 September 2012 to 30 April 2018. The demographic data, medical history, and details of BAE were recorded. BAE-related complications and symptom relief after BAE were evaluated and compared between the PJS patients aged 5-10 years old (the younger pediatric group) and those aged 11-14 years old (the older pediatric group). A total of 41 pediatric PJS patients (5-14 years old) subjected to 82 BAEs were included. BAE-facilitated polypectomy was performed for 33 children (80.5%), and 242 polyps in small bowel were removed. For 10 (24.4%) patients, one or more giant polyps (maximum diameter larger than 5 cm) were removed. For eight patients, no polypectomy was done as no polyps were observed (six subjects) or not suitable for BAE-facilitated polypectomy (two subjects) because of high risk of perforation. The complication rates of BAE and BAE-facilitated polypectomy were 1.2% (1/82) and 1.8% (1/55), and the symptom relief rate was 70.8% (17/24). Compared with the older pediatric group, the younger pediatric group showed no increased BAE complication rate (0.0% vs. 5.0%, p = 0.488) and a comparable rate of symptom relief after BAE therapy (80.8% vs. 55.6%, p = 0.356).Conclusion: BAE-facilitated polypectomy in young pediatric PJS is safe and effective.What is known:• Small bowel evaluation and prophetic polypectomy are important for pediatric PJS patients to avoid polyp-related intussusception, obstruction, and bleeding.• BAE polypectomy was a recommended intervention for removing small bowel polyps in adult PJS patients.What is new:• BAE-facilitated small bowel polypectomy is safe and effective for young pediatric PJS, even for those aged less than 10 years old. A two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer [Co2(OH)(H2O)2(cbca)·2H2O]n (CP 1) (H3cbca: 4′-(1-carboxyethoxy)-[1,1′-biphenyl]-3,5-dicarboxylic acid) with a topological (3,6) connection point structure was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed that the 2D structure is comprised of tetranuclear cobalt clusters and semi-rigid cbca ligands connected through strong Co–O bonds. It has been found that CP 1 can be used as an effective multiple fluorescent sensor for detecting iron ions, specific nitro compounds, antibiotics and pesticides. An unbalanced pigment distribution among the sepal and petal segments results in various colour patterns of orchid flowers. Here, we explored this type of mechanism of colour pattern formation in flowers of the Cattleya hybrid 'KOVA'. Our study showed that pigment accumulation displayed obvious spatiotemporal specificity in the flowers and was likely regulated by three R2R3-MYB transcription factors. Before flowering, RcPAP1 was specifically expressed in the epichile to activate the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway, which caused substantial cyanin accumulation and resulted in a purple-red colour. After flowering, the expression of RcPAP2 resulted in a low level of cyanin accumulation in the perianths and a pale pink colour, whereas RcPCP1 was expressed only in the hypochile, where it promoted α-carotene and lutein accumulation and resulted in a yellow colour. Additionally, we propose that the spatiotemporal expression of different combinations of AP3- and AGL6-like genes might participate in KOVA flower colour pattern formation. Wilms' tumor (WT) is the most common type of childhood kidney cancer, and most cases present with favorable histology and respond well to standard treatment. However, a subset of patients with WT is diagnosed with bilateral, relapsed, and high-risk tumors which remain the leading cause of cancer-related death in children. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and their aberrant expression have currently been attracting great attention as oncogenes or tumor suppressors during tumor initiation and progression. So far, their roles and related competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network remain unelucidated in nephroblastoma pathogenesis. We comprehensively integrated lncRNA, microRNA (miRNA), and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression profiles from the Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatment (TARGET) database and screened out differentially expressed mRNAs (DEMs), lncRNAs (DELs), and miRNAs (DEMis) to construct a ceRNA network based on the information generated from miRcode, miRTarBase, TargetScan, and miRDB. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were performed to analyze the functional characteristics of DEMs in the ceRNA network. The interaction between protein molecules was also analyzed by establishing a protein-protein interaction network. Finally, prognosis-related biomarkers were identified via survival analysis. Initially, 1647 DELs, 115 DEMis, and 3280 DEMs (|log FC| > 2; FDR < 0.01) were obtained using the R package. Next, we constructed a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA network (ceRNA network), in which 176 DELs, 24 DEMis, and 141 DEMs were identified. Furthermore, 148 functional enrichment terms from GO were identified and 29 KEGG pathways were found to be significantly enriched. We also integrated patient clinical information to analyze the association between DERNAs and patient prognosis. We found that high expression of 8 DELs (LINC00473, AL445228.2, DENND5B−AS1, DLEU2, AC123595.1, AC135178.1, LINC00535, and LMO7−AS1) and 4 DEMs (CEP55, DEPDC1, PHF19, and TRIM36) correlated with poor survival in a patient with WT, whereas high expression of 2 DELs (MEG3 and RMST), 1 DEM (KIAA0922), and 1 DEMi (hsa−mir−200a) could possibly lead to better clinical outcomes. During 2013-2017, a total of 211 cases of listeriosis were reported by 64 sentinel hospitals in China to a national foodborne disease surveillance network. Background: In countries undergoing rapid economic transition such as China, rates of increase in childhood obesity exceed that in the West. However, prevention trials in these countries are inadequate in both quantity and methodological quality. In high-income countries, recent reviews have demonstrated that school-based prevention interventions are moderately effective but have some methodological limitations. To address these issues, this study evaluated clinical- and cost- effectiveness of the Chinese Primary School Children Physical Activity and Dietary Behaviour Changes Intervention (CHIRPY DRAGON) developed using the United Kingdom Medical Research Council complex intervention framework to prevent obesity in Chinese primary-school-aged children.Methods and Findings: In this cluster-randomised controlled trial, we recruited 40 state-funded primary schools from urban districts of Guangzhou, China. A total of 1,641 year-one children with parent/guardian consent took part in baseline assessments prior to stratified randomisation of schools (intervention arm, 20 schools, n = 832, mean age = 6.15 years, 55.6% boys; control arm n = 809, mean age = 6.14 years, 53.3% boys). The 12-month intervention programme included 4 school- and family-based components delivered by 5 dedicated project staff. We promoted physical activity and healthy eating behaviours through educational and practical workshops, family activities, and supporting the school to improve physical activity and food provision. The primary outcome, assessed blind to allocation, was between-arm difference in body mass index (BMI) z score at completion of the intervention. A range of prespecified, secondary anthropometric, behavioural, and psychosocial outcomes were also measured. We estimated cost effectiveness based on quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), taking a public sector perspective. Attrition was low with 55 children lost to follow up (3.4%) and no school dropout. Implementation adherence was high. Using intention to treat analysis, the mean difference (MD) in BMI z scores (intervention - control) was -0.13 (-0.26 to 0.00, p = 0.048), with the effect being greater in girls (MD = -0.18, -0.32 to -0.05, p = 0.007, p for interaction = 0.015) and in children with overweight or obesity at baseline (MD = -0.49, -0.73 to -0.25, p < 0.001, p for interaction < 0.001). Significant beneficial intervention effects were also observed on consumption of fruit and vegetables, sugar-sweetened beverages and unhealthy snacks, screen-based sedentary behaviour, and physical activity in the intervention group. Cost effectiveness was estimated at £1,760 per QALY, with the probability of the intervention being cost effective compared with usual care being at least 95% at a willingness to pay threshold of £20,000 to 30,000 per QALY. There was no evidence of adverse effects or harms. The main limitations of this study were the use of dietary assessment tools not yet validated for Chinese children and the use of the UK value set to estimate QALYS.Conclusions: This school- and family-based obesity prevention programme was effective and highly cost effective in reducing BMI z scores in primary-school-aged children in China. Future research should identify strategies to enhance beneficial effects among boys and investigate the transferability of the intervention to other provinces in China and countries that share the same language and cultures.Trial Registration: ISRCTN Identifier ISRCTN11867516. Lane change is a basic and critical element of complicated driving maneuvers such as overtaking, merging, and exit. Improper lane change is a primary cause for car crashes. This article focuses on the cooperative lane change motion planning task for multiple connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). To describe this task in a straightforward, accurate, and generic way, a centralized optimal control problem should be formulated. This optimal control problem consists of a cost function and many constraints, including the vehicle kinematic constraints, collision-avoidance constraints, two-point boundary conditions, and so forth. However, this optimal control problem is difficult to solve, because the constraints related to all of the CAVs must be considered simultaneously. In order to facilitate the numerical solving process, an incrementally constrained dynamic optimization method is proposed. In this method, a series of subproblems are defined and solved in a sequence such that each one is more difficult than its former one by incorporating more collision-avoidance constraints. The optimum of each one subproblem serves as the initial guess, which warmly starts the solution process of the next subproblem in the sequence. This sequential process continues until the optimal solution to the originally formulated problem is derived. In this way, the difficulties in the original problem are dispersed into multiple parts and then tackled incrementally. Dysfunction of gastrointestinal (GI) sphincters, including the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) at the esophagogastric junction (EGJ) and the pyloric sphincter, plays a vital role in GI motility disorders, such as achalasia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastroparesis, and fecal incontinence. Using multi‐detector high‐resolution impedance planimetry, the functional luminal imaging probe (FLIP) system measures simultaneous data on tissue distensibility and luminal geometry changes in the sphincter in a real‐time manner. In this review we focus on the emerging data on FLIP, which can be used as an innovative diagnostic method during endoscopic or surgical procedures in GI motility disorders. Atrazine (ATR), a widely used herbicide, has been previously shown to damage spatial memory capability and the hippocampus of male rats during the development. It has also been indicated that physical exercise can improve learning and memory in both humans and animals, as a neuroprotective method. Our aim here was to investigate the effect of maternal ATR exposure during gestation and lactation on spatial learning and memory function and hippocampal morphology in offspring and to further evaluate the neuroprotective effect of swimming training and identify possible related learning and memory signaling pathways. Using Sprague-Dawley rats, we examined behavioral and molecular biology effects associated with maternal ATR exposure, as well as the effects of 8 or 28 days swimming training. Maternal exposure to ATR was found to impair spatial learning and memory by behavioral test, damage the hippocampal morphology, and reduce related genes and proteins expression of learning and memory in the hippocampus. The extended, 28 days, period of swimming training produced a greater amelioration of the adverse effects of ATR exposure than the shorter, 8 days, training period. Our results suggest that maternal ATR exposure may damage the spatial learning and memory of offspring male rats via PSD95/NR2B signaling pathway. The negative effect of ATR could be at least partially reversed by swimming training, pointing to a potential neuroprotective role of physical exercise in nervous system diseases accompanying by learning and memory deficit. Individual-based models (IBMs) can capture complex processes with a flexible probabilistic approach, which makes them useful for studying organisms with complex life history and fishery processes such as the American lobster (Homarus americanus). This research aims to modify and parameterize an individual-based lobster simulator (IBLS) to simulate the American lobster fishery in the Gulf of Maine. To simulate the fishery, the IBLS was tuned to match the seasonal catch and size composition from the 2015 American lobster stock assessment by adjusting the values of coefficients for select parameters. With appropriate coefficients for the initial abundance, recruitment, and seasonal encounter probability levels, the tuned IBLS accurately simulated the historical landings. Given the uncertainty in future American lobster recruitment, the tuned IBLS was then used to evaluate the effectiveness of current management regulations under different levels of recruitment. Rationale: Converging evidence suggests that neuroimmunity plays an important role in the pathophysiology of anxiety. Interleukin (IL)-4 is a key cytokine regulating neuroimmune functions in the central nervous system. More efficient anxiolytics with neuro-immune mechanisms are urgently needed. Objective: To determine whether 3′-deoxyadenosine (3′-dA) exerts an anxiolytic effect and to examine the role of IL-4 in the anxiolytic effect of 3′-dA in mice. Methods: We investigated the effects of 3′-dA on anxiety-like behaviors using elevated plus maze (EPM) or light-dark box (LDB) tests after 45 min or 5 days of treatment. Expression of IL-4, IL-10, IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) was detected by Western blot and/or double immunostaining. Intracerebroventricular injection of RIL-4Rα (an IL-4-specific inhibitor) and intraperitoneal injection of 3′-dA or imipramine were co-administered, followed by EPM test. Results: 3′-dA exhibited a stronger and faster anxiolytic effect than imipramine in behavioral tests. Furthermore, 3′-dA enhanced IL-4 expression after 45 min or 5 days, TNF-α and IL-1β expression decreased significantly after a 5-day treatment with 3′-dA, and IL-10 expression increased after a 5-day treatment with 3′-dA or imipramine in the PFC. IL-4 was expressed in neurons and in some astrocytes and microglia. IL-4 expression showed a strong positive correlation with reduced anxiety behaviors. RIL-4Rα completely blocked the anxiolytic effects induced by 3′-dA and imipramine. Conclusions: This study identifies a novel and common anxiolytic IL-4 signaling pathway and provides an innovative drug with a novel neuro-immune mechanism for treating anxiety disorder.
