Search

Testing and evaluation are critical to the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles (AVs). Given the rarity of safety-critical events such as crashes, millions of tests are typically needed to accurately assess AV safety performance. Although techniques like importance sampling can accelerate this process, it usually still requires too many numbers of tests for field testing. This severely hinders the testing and evaluation process, especially for third-party testers and governmental bodies with very limited testing budgets. The rapid development cycles of AV technology further exacerbate this challenge. To fill this research gap, this paper introduces the few-shot testing (FST) problem and proposes a methodological framework to tackle it. As the testing budget is very limited, usually smaller than 100, the FST method transforms the testing scenario generation problem from probabilistic sampling to deterministic optimization, reducing the uncertainty of testing results. To optimize the selection of testing scenarios, a cross-attention similarity mechanism is proposed to learn to extract the information of AV's testing scenario space. This allows iterative searches for scenarios with the smallest evaluation error, ensuring precise testing within budget constraints. The planar two-loop scalar Feynman integrals contributing to the massive NNLO QCD corrections for $W$-boson pair production via quark-antiquark annihilation can be classified into three family branches, each of which is reduced to a distinct set of master integrals (MIs), totaling $27$, $45$ and $15$, respectively. These MIs are analytically calculated using the method of differential equations, with solutions expanded as Taylor series in the dimensional regulator $\epsilon$. For the first two family branches, the differential systems can be successfully transformed into canonical form by adopting appropriate bases of MIs. This enables the MIs of these family branches to be expressed either as Goncharov polylogarithms (GPLs) or as one-fold integrals over GPLs, up to $\mathcal{O}(\epsilon^4)$. In contrast, the differential system for the third family branch can only be cast into a form linear in $\epsilon$ due to the presence of elliptic integrals. The solution to this linear-form differential system is expressed in an iterated form owing to the strictly lower-triangular structure of the coefficient matrices at $\epsilon = 0$. The DarkSHINE experiment aims to search for dark photons by measuring the energy loss of the electrons recoiled from fixed-target. Its electromagnetic calorimeter is primarily responsible for accurately reconstructing the energy of the recoil electrons and bremsstrahlung photons. The performance of the electromagnetic calorimeter is crucial, as its energy measurement precision directly determines the sensitivity to the search for dark photons. The DarkSHINE electromagnetic calorimeter uses LYSO crystals to form a fully absorptive electromagnetic calorimeter. It utilizes SiPMs to detect scintillation light in the crystals, and its readout electronics system deduces the deposited energy in the crystals by measuring the number of photoelectric signals generated by the SiPMs. The DarkSHINE electromagnetic calorimeter aims to operate at an event rate of 1-10 MHz, detecting energies ranging from 1 MeV to 1 GeV. To meet the requirements of high energy measurement precision, high event rate, and large dynamic range, we have researched and designed a readout electronics system based on dual-channel high-speed ADCs and a customized DAQ. The front-end amplification part of this system uses low-noise trans-impedance amplifiers to achieve high-precision waveform amplification. It successfully achieves a dynamic range up to a thousandfold through a double-gain readout scheme. The digital part uses 1 GSPS high-speed ADCs to achieve non-dead-time, high-precision waveform digitization. The DAQ part uses JESD204B high-speed serial protocol to read out the signal from ADC, and transmit it to PC software for processing and storage. Test results show a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 66 dBFS and an ENOB greater than 10.6 bits. Energy spectra measurements have been conducted using LYSO crystals and SiPMs, and an energy resolution of 5.96% at the 2.6 MeV gamma peak of Th-232 has been achieved.

This paper presents the design and optimization of a LYSO crystal-based electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) for the DarkSHINE experiment, which aims to search for dark photon as potential dark force mediator. The ECAL design has been meticulously evaluated through comprehensive simulations, focusing on optimizing dimensions, material choices, and placement within the detector array to enhance sensitivity in search for dark photon signatures while balancing cost and performance. The concluded ECAL design, comprising 2.5$\times$2.5$\times$4 cm$^3$ LYSO crystals arranged in a 52.5$\times$52.5$\times$44 cm$^3$ structure, ensures high energy resolution and effective energy containment. The study also explored the energy distribution across different ECAL regions and established a dynamic range for energy measurements, with a 4 GeV limit per crystal deemed sufficient. Additionally, the radiation tolerance of ECAL components was assessed, confirming the sustainability of LYSO crystals and radiation-resistant silicon sensors.

This study investigates the characteristics of Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) with different pixel densities, focusing on their response across a wide dynamic range. Using an experimental setup that combines laser source and photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) for accurate light intensity calibration, we evaluated SiPMs with pixel counts up to 244,719 and pixel sizes down to 6 micrometers. To complement the experimental findings, a "Toy Monte Carlo" was developed to replicate the SiPMs' reponses under different lighting conditions, incorporating essential parameters such as pixel density and photon detection efficiency. The simulations aligned well with the experimental results for laser light, demonstrating similar nonlinearity trends. For BGO scintillation light, the simulations, which included multi-firing effect of pixels, showed significantly higher photon counts compared to the laser simulations. Furthermore, the simulated response derived in this research offer a method to correct for SiPM saturation effect, enabling accurate measurements in high-energy events even with SiPMs having a limited number of pixels.

An accurate map of intracellular organelle pH is crucial for comprehending cellular metabolism and organellar functions. However, a unified intracellular pH spectrum using a single probe is still lack. Here, we developed a novel quantum entanglement-enhanced pH-sensitive probe called SITE-pHorin, which featured a wide pH-sensitive range and ratiometric quantitative measurement capabilities. Subsequently, we measured the pH of various organelles and their sub-compartments, including mitochondrial sub-spaces, Golgi stacks, endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, peroxisomes, and endosomes in COS-7 cells. For the long-standing debate on mitochondrial compartments pH, we measured the pH of mitochondrial cristae as 6.60 \pm 0.40, the pH of mitochondrial intermembrane space as 6.95 \pm 0.30, and two populations of mitochondrial matrix pH at approximately 7.20 \pm 0.27 and 7.50 \pm 0.16, respectively. Notably, the lysosome pH exhibited a single, narrow Gaussian distribution centered at 4.79 \pm 0.17. Furthermore, quantum chemistry computations revealed that both the deprotonation of the residue Y182 and the discrete curvature of deformed benzene ring in chromophore are both necessary for the quantum entanglement mechanism of SITE-pHorin. Intriguingly, our findings reveal an accurate pH gradient (0.6-0.9 pH unit) between mitochondrial cristae and matrix, suggesting prior knowledge about \Delta pH (0.4-0.6) and mitochondrial proton motive force (pmf) are underestimated., Comment: 64 pages, 7 figures, the supplemental material contains 13 supplemental figures and 4 supplemental tables

We introduce a novel machine learning method developed for the fast simulation of calorimeter detector response, adapting vector-quantized variational autoencoder (VQ-VAE). Our model adopts a two-stage generation strategy: initially compressing geometry-aware calorimeter data into a discrete latent space, followed by the application of a sequence model to learn and generate the latent tokens. Extensive experimentation on the Calo-challenge dataset underscores the efficiency of our approach, showcasing a remarkable improvement in the generation speed compared with conventional method by a factor of 2000. Remarkably, our model achieves the generation of calorimeter showers within milliseconds. Furthermore, comprehensive quantitative evaluations across various metrics are performed to validate physics performance of generation.

Motion diffusion models excel at text-driven motion generation but struggle with real-time inference since motion sequences are time-axis redundant and solving reverse diffusion trajectory involves tens or hundreds of sequential iterations. In this paper, we propose a Motion Latent Consistency Training (MLCT) framework, which allows for large-scale skip sampling of compact motion latent representation by constraining the consistency of the outputs of adjacent perturbed states on the precomputed trajectory. In particular, we design a flexible motion autoencoder with quantization constraints to guarantee the low-dimensionality, succinctness, and boundednes of the motion embedding space. We further present a conditionally guided consistency training framework based on conditional trajectory simulation without additional pre-training diffusion model, which significantly improves the conditional generation performance with minimal training cost. Experiments on two benchmarks demonstrate our model's state-of-the-art performance with an 80\% inference cost saving and around 14 ms on a single RTX 4090 GPU.

Neutral triple gauge couplings (nTGCs) are absent in the Standard Model (SM) and at the dimension-6 level in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT), arising first from dimension-8 operators. As such, they provide a unique window for probing new physics beyond the SM. These dimension-8 operators can be mapped to nTGC form factors whose structure is consistent with the spontaneously-broken electroweak gauge symmetry of the SM. In this work, we study the probes of nTGCs in the reaction $e^+e^-\to Z\gamma$ with $Z\to\ell^+\ell^-\,(\ell =e,\mu)$ at an $e^+e^-$ collider. We perform a detector-level simulation and analysis of this reaction at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) with collision energy $\sqrt{s} = 240$ GeV and an integrated luminosity of 20 ab$^{-1}$. We study bottom quark energy loss via the nuclear modification factor ($R_\mathrm{AA}$) and elliptic flow ($v_2$) of non-prompt $D^0$ and $J/\psi$ in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. The space-time profile of quark-gluon plasma is obtained from the CLVisc hydrodynamics simulation, the dynamical evolution of heavy quarks inside the color deconfined QCD medium is simulated using a linear Boltzmann transport model that combines Yukawa and string potentials of heavy-quark-medium interactions, the hadronization of heavy quarks is performed using a hybrid coalescence-fragmentation model, and the decay of $B$ mesons is simulated via PYTHIA. Using this numerical framework, we calculate the transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) dependent $R_\mathrm{AA}$ and $v_2$ of direct $D$ mesons, $B$ mesons, and non-prompt $D^0$ and $J/\psi$ from $B$ meson decay in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=5.02$ TeV. We find the mass hierarchy of the nuclear modification of prompt $D$ and $B$ mesons depends on their $p_\mathrm{T}$. Both $R_\mathrm{AA}$ and $v_2$ of heavy flavor particles show strong $p_\mathrm{T}$ and centrality dependences due to the interplay between parton energy loss, medium geometry and flow, and hadronization of heavy quarks. Non-prompt $D^0$ and $J/\psi$ share similar patterns of $R_\mathrm{AA}$ and $v_2$ to $B$ mesons except for a $p_\mathrm{T}$ shift during the decay processes. Therefore, future more precise measurements on non-prompt $D^0$ and $J/\psi$ can help further pin down the bottom quark dynamics inside the quark-gluon plasma., Comment: 11 pages,8 figures

The insulator-to-metal transition (IMT) in vanadium dioxide (VO2) has garnered extensive attention for its potential applications in ultrafast switches, neuronal network architectures, and storage technologies. However, a significant controversy persists regarding the formation of the IMT, specifically concerning whether a complete structural phase transition from monoclinic (M1) to rutile (R) phase is necessary. Here we employ the real-time time-dependent density functional theory (rt-TDDFT) to track the dynamic evolution of atomic and electronic structures in photoexcited VO2, revealing the emergence of a long-lived monoclinic metal phase (MM) under low electronic excitation. The emergence of the metal phase in the monoclinic structure originates from the dissociation of the local V-V dimer, driven by the self-trapped and self-amplified dynamics of photoexcited holes, rather than by a pure electron-electron correction. On the other hand, the M1-to-R phase transition does appear at higher electronic excitation. Heavy flavor particles provide important probes of the microscopic structure and thermodynamic properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. We study the energy loss and flow of charm and bottom quarks inside the QGP via the nuclear modification factor ($R_\mathrm{AA}$) and elliptic flow coefficient ($v_2$) of their decayed leptons in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. The dynamical evolution of the QGP is performed using the (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamics model CLVisc; the evolution of heavy quarks inside the QGP is simulated with our improved Langevin model that takes into account both collisional and radiative energy loss of heavy quarks; the hadronization of heavy quarks is simulated via our hybrid coalescence-fragmentation model; and the semi-leptonic decay of $D$ and $B$ mesons is simulated via PYTHIA. By using the same spatial diffusion coefficient for charm and bottom quarks, we obtain smaller $R_\mathrm{AA}$ and larger $v_2$ of charm decayed leptons than bottom decayed leptons, indicating stronger energy loss of charm quarks than bottom quarks inside the QGP within our current model setup., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

PandaX-4T experiment is a deep-underground dark matter direct search experiment that employs a dual-phase time projection chamber with a sensitive volume containing 3.7 tonne of liquid xenon. The detector of PandaX-4T is capable of simultaneously collecting the primary scintillation and ionization signals, utilizing their ratio to discriminate dark matter signals from background sources such as gamma rays and beta particles. The signal response model plays a crucial role in interpreting the data obtained by PandaX-4T. It describes the conversion from the deposited energy by dark matter interactions to the detectable signals within the detector. The signal response model is utilized in various PandaX-4T results. This work provides a comprehensive description of the procedures involved in constructing and parameter-fitting the signal response model for the energy range of approximately 1 keV to 25 keV for electronic recoils and 6 keV to 90 keV for nuclear recoils. It also covers the signal reconstruction, selection, and correction methods, which are crucial components integrated into the signal response model.

Two skew diagrams are defined to be equivalent if their corresponding skew Schur functions are equal. The equivalence classes for ribbons have been classified by Billera, Thomas and van Willigenburg in 2006. In this paper, we provide a complete characterization of equivalence classes for connected skew diagrams with exactly one $2\times m$ or $m\times 2$ block of boxes for all $m\ge 2$. We study the charmed meson and baryon production and elliptic flow in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC energies. The space-time evolution of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in these energetic collisions is obtained via the (3+1)-dimensional CLVisc hydrodynamics model, the heavy quark dynamics inside the QGP is simulated using an improved Langevin model that incorporates both elastic and inelastic parton energy loss processes, and the heavy quark hadronization is simulated utilizing a comprehensive coalescence-fragmentation model. Using our combined approach, we first calculate charmed hadron ratios, $\Lambda_c/D^0$ and $D_s/D^0$, as well as their elliptic flow ($v_2$) as a function of transverse momentum ($p_T$) for different centralities in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$~TeV. Due to strangeness enhancement and parton coalescence effects, $D_s/D^0$ and $\Lambda_c/D^0$ ratios increase from peripheral to central collisions, and such centrality dependence for $\Lambda_c/D^0$ is stronger than $D_s/D^0$. We further predict the $p_T$ and centrality dependences of charmed hadron chemistry and $v_2$ in smaller Xe+Xe, Ar+Ar and O+O collisions at the LHC energies. Strong centrality and system size dependences for $\Lambda_c/D^0$ and $D_s/D^0$ ratios are observed across four collision systems. As for charmed hadron flow, both system size and collision geometry are important to understand the centrality dependence of $v_2$ in different collision systems. Testing and evaluating the safety performance of autonomous vehicles (AVs) is essential before the large-scale deployment. Practically, the number of testing scenarios permissible for a specific AV is severely limited by tight constraints on testing budgets and time. With the restrictions imposed by strictly restricted numbers of tests, existing testing methods often lead to significant uncertainty or difficulty to quantifying evaluation results. In this paper, we formulate this problem for the first time the "few-shot testing" (FST) problem and propose a systematic framework to address this challenge. To alleviate the considerable uncertainty inherent in a small testing scenario set, we frame the FST problem as an optimization problem and search for the testing scenario set based on neighborhood coverage and similarity. Specifically, under the guidance of better generalization ability of the testing scenario set on AVs, we dynamically adjust this set and the contribution of each testing scenario to the evaluation result based on coverage, leveraging the prior information of surrogate models (SMs). With certain hypotheses on SMs, a theoretical upper bound of evaluation error is established to verify the sufficiency of evaluation accuracy within the given limited number of tests. The experiment results on cut-in scenarios demonstrate a notable reduction in evaluation error and variance of our method compared to conventional testing methods, especially for situations with a strict limit on the number of scenarios.

We study single-photon scattering spectra of a giant atom chirally coupled to a one-dimensional waveguide at multiple connection points, and examine chirality induced effects in the scattering spectra. We show that the transmission spectra typically possess an anti-Lorentzian lineshape with a nonzero minimum, but by engineering the chirality of the multi-point coupling, the transmission spectrum of an incident photon can undergo a transition from complete transmission to total reflection at multiple frequency ``windows'', where the width of the anti-Lorentzian lineshape for each of the window can be flexibly tuned at a fixed frequency detuning. Moreover, we show that a perfect nonreciprocal photon scattering can be achieved due to the interplay between internal atomic spontaneous emission and the chirally external decay to the waveguide, in contrast to that induced by the non-Markovian retardation effect. We also consider the non-Markovian retardation effect on the scattering spectra, which allows for a photonic band gap even with only two chiral coupling points. The discrepancy between the CDF measurement and the Standard Model theoretical prediction for the $W$-boson mass underscores the importance of conducting high-precision studies on the $W$ boson, which is one of the predominant objectives of proposed future $e^+e^-$ colliders. We investigate in detail the production of $W$-boson pairs at $e^+e^-$ colliders, and compute the next-to-next-to-leading order mixed QCD-EW corrections to both the integrated cross section and various kinematic distributions. By employing the method of differential equations, we analytically calculate the two-loop master integrals for the mixed QCD-EW virtual corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow W^+W^-$. Utilizing the Magnus transformation, we derive a set of canonical master integrals for each integral family. This canonical basis satisfies a system of differential equations in which the dependence on the dimensional regulator is linearly factorized from the kinematics. We then express all these canonical master integrals as Taylor series in $\epsilon$ up to $\epsilon^4$, with coefficients articulated in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms up to weight four. Upon applying our analytic expressions of these master integrals to the phenomenological analysis of $W$-pair production, we observe that the $\mathcal{O}(\alpha\alpha_s)$ corrections are significantly impactful in the $\alpha(0)$ scheme, particularly in certain phase-space regions. However, these mixed QCD-EW corrections can be heavily suppressed by adopting the $G_{\mu}$ scheme., Comment: 32 pages, 9 figures

We calculate the two-loop mixed QCD$\otimes$EW corrections for the charged Higgs boson pair production within the framework of four types of Two Higgs Doublet Models (THDMs) with the $Z_2$ symmetry. We analyze in detail the dependences of our results on physical parameters, including the charged Higgs mass, $\tan\beta$, the scattering angle, and the colliding energy. It is noticeable that the mixed QCD$\otimes$EW relative correction is independent of the scattering angle due to the topology of Feynman diagrams at $O(\alpha\alpha_s)$. Numerical results in most allowed regions of four types of THDMs are provided in the density plots on the $m_{H^{\pm}}$-$\tan\beta$ plane. For type-I and type-X, the mixed QCD$\otimes$EW relative correction varies slightly near $1\%$ except in the vicinity of resonance. For type-II and type-Y, the corrections increase consistently in large $\tan\beta$ region and reach up to $11.5\%$ at $\tan\beta = 50$. We also compute the $O(\alpha)$ corrections to obtain the corrected cross section up to $O(\alpha\alpha_s)$. The numerical results show that the corrected cross section can be larger than $80\ \mathrm{fb}$ in some parameter space region for type-I and type-X THDMs., Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures

We present a comprehensive analytic calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order $\text{QCD} \otimes \text{EW}$ corrections to $Z$-boson pair production at electron-positron colliders. The two-loop master integrals essential to this calculation are evaluated using the differential equation method. In this work, we detail the formulation and solution of the canonical differential equations for the two-loop three-point master integrals with two on-shell $Z$-boson external legs and a massive internal quark in the loops. These canonical master integrals are systematically expanded as Taylor series in the dimensional regulator, $\epsilon = (4-d)/2$, up to the order of $\epsilon^4$, with coefficients expressed in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms up to weight four. Upon applying our analytic expressions of these master integrals to the phenomenological analysis of $Z$-pair production, we observe that the $\mathcal{O}(\alpha \alpha_s)$ corrections manifest at a level of approximately one percent compared to the leading-order predictions, underscoring their significance for comparisons with future high-precision experimental data., Comment: 29 pages, 5 figures

Signal reconstruction through software processing is a crucial component of the background and signal models in the PandaX-4T experiment, which is a multi-tonne dark matter direct search experiment. The accuracy of signal reconstruction is influenced by various detector artifacts, including noise, dark count of photomultiplier, impurity photoionization in the detector, and other relevant considerations. In this study, we present a detailed description of a semi-data-driven approach designed to simulate the signal waveform. This work provides a reliable model for the efficiency and bias of the signal reconstruction in the data analysis of PandaX-4T. By comparing critical variables which relate to the temporal shape and hit pattern of the signals, we demonstrate a good agreement between the simulation and data.

The sensitivity of the dark photon search through invisible decay final states in low background experiments significantly relies on the neutron and muon veto efficiency, which depends on the amount of material used and the design of detector geometry. This paper presents an optimized design of a hadronic calorimeter (HCAL) used for the DarkSHINE experiment, which is studied using a GEANT4-based simulation framework. The geometry is optimized by comparing a traditional design with uniform absorbers to one that uses different thicknesses at different locations of the detector, which enhances the efficiency of vetoing low-energy neutrons at the sub-GeV level. The overall size and total amount of material used in HCAL are optimized to be lower due to the load and budget requirements, while the overall performance is studied to meet the physical objectives., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures
