Groundwater of Luohe Formation is the main water source for industrial and agricultural and residential use in Binchang mining area, which is one of the key elements to water conservation coal mining. However, few studies are available to document the enrichment characteristics and influence of underground coal mining on groundwater for the Luohe Formation. This study evaluates the changes of groundwater levels and spring flow caused by mining activities to explore the influence mechanism of coal mining on groundwater by comparatively analysing existing mining data and survey data combined with a series of mapping methods. The results show that the aquifer of Luohe Formation are gradually thinning south-eastwards, disappeared at the mining boundary. In the vertical direction, the lithological structure is distinct, due to alternative sedimentation of meandering river facies and braided river facies. According to the yielding property, the aquifer is divided into three sections, namely, strong water-rich section, medium water-rich section, and weak water-rich section, which are located in northwest and central part, southwest, and the rest part of the mining area, respectively. Mining of Tingnan Coal Mine since 2004 has caused a 3.16 to 194.87 meters drop in groundwater level of Luohe Formation. Until 2015, 70.10% of the mining area undergoes a groundwater level drop larger than 10.00 meters. Another influence of underground mining is that the total flow from 34 springs in 8 southern coal mines of the area has decreased by 286.48 L/s with a rate of decrease at 46.95% from 2007 to 2017. The areas that groundwater level falls or spring flow declines are manly located in the mine gob areas. Results also indicate that the ratio of the height of water conducted fracture zone to the mining height in Binchang mining area is between 16.85 and 27.92. This may increase ground water flow in vertical direction, causing a water level in the aquifer system to drop and ultimately decreasing the flow from the springs. The research results will provide data and theoretical support for the protection of groundwater resources and water conservation coal mining of Luohe Formation in Binchang mining area.

AIM: To observe the agreement of the lower tear meniscus height(LTMH)measurements using RTVue XR and Keratograph ocular surface analyzer, and to compare intraobserver repeatability and interobserver reproducibility between the two devices in the virginal and FS-LASIK eyes. METHODS: Totally 52 virginal eyes and 52 FS-LASIK eyes were included during January 2019 in Guangzhou Aier Eye Hospital. LTMH measurements were performed using RTVue XR and Keratograph Ocular Surface Analyzer. A paired t-test was used to compare the difference between LTMH values using the two devices. The with-subject standard deviation(Sw), test-retest repeatability(2.77Sw), coefficient of variation(CoV)and intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC)were calculated to evaluate the repeatability and reproducibility. RESULTS: In the virginal eyes group, the average LTMH obtained with RTVue XR and Keratograph were 261.12±80.29μm and 235.05±78.40μm, respectively. CoV and ICC were 5.55% and 0.98 for RTVue XR, 14.90% and 0.87 for Keratograph, respectively. In the FS-LASIK group, the average LTMH were 234.55±68.38μm and 208.22±73.85μm, respectively. CoV and ICC were 5.29% and 0.97 for RTVue XR, 16.16% and 0.87 for Keratograph, respectively. CONCLUSION: In the virginal and FS-LASIK eyes, the LTMH value obtained with RTVue XR is 25μm greater than Keratograph. RTVue XR has a better reliability than Keratograph and can be used to measure the LTMH.

In recent years, heavy metal pollution in farmlands has become increasingly serious because of human activities such as metal smelting, sewage irrigation, and road traffic in China. A field survey was conducted to investigate characteristics of Cd, As, and Pb in soil and wheat grains and assess the health risk of grain-Cd/As/Pb to humans on the fields scale. The farmland was influenced by smelter and sewage irrigation in the attitude and by road traffic in the horizon. The results showed that in farmland soil with moderate pollution levels, Cd, As, and Pb concentrations in soil samples all exceeded the risk screening values of farmland soil (GB 15618-2018), and the exceeding rates were 100%, 100%, and 36.7% respectively; the exceeding rates of Cd and Pb concentrations in wheat grains were 76.7% and 13.3%, respectively (GB 2762-2017). Distance from smelter, river of sewage irrigation, and road had no significant effect on Cd, As, and Pb concentrations in soil but had a significant effect on Cd and As concentrations in wheat grains, with the median Cd and As concentrations of the closest group being 14.9% and 41.8%, respectively, higher than the highest group (

The main purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of coal mining on the springs in the Yushenfu mining area of China. The results of two springs and hydrological surveys conducted in 1994 and 2015 were compared to study the occurrence and evolution of springs before and after large-scale mining. The mechanism of spring evolution and ecological effects of domain evolution were analyzed by combined groundwater monitoring and evaluation of coal mining intensity. The results show that the maximum amount of single water inflow of spring with sand infiltration recharge was more than 10 L/s, the total amount of single water inflow of spring with mixed infiltration recharge was the highest, and the ecological effect of spring with loess infiltration recharge was the most significant. In the study area, 2580 springs (group) were distributed with a total flow of 4998.9428 L/s before 1994 and 376 residual springs (group) were present with a total flow of 996.392 L/s in 2015. Large-scale mining decreased the regional groundwater level, thus decreasing the amount of spring water. The high intensity of mining decreased the number of springs (group) and area of water and wetland in the study area. This directly affected the watershed ecology; the ecological degradation was significant.

Increasing evidences suggest that intestinal microbiota balance closely correlated with host’s health status could affected by external environment. Integrated crayfish-rice cultivation model is a highly efficient artificial ecosystem widely practiced in subtropical China. Less information is available to estimate the influence response to the micro-ecology of crayfish intestine and so as to influence the biological processes. Thus, 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing approach was employed to investigate the composition diversity and functions of bacterial community in the intestines of Procambarus clarkii farmed within this model. Results exhibited the highly diversity of microflora with dominant phyla Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, Tenericutes, Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. The genera of Candidatus Bacilloplasma and Ornithinibacter were presented as predominant population much exceeds in richness comparing to that of other genus. Despite the highly diversity in the bacterial community, the predicted functions indicated relative consistent in biological processing pathway. Collectively, significant richness of genes was observed involved in amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism and membrane transport processing. This study would contribute to the understanding of the impact of growth conditions on host–microbiota relation especially in aquatic animals.

Addition of Si to soil can reduce As uptake and accumulation in rice, while also enhancing As release from soil particles via competing sorption sites in soil minerals with As. Foliar application of Si might be an alternative pathway to reduce As accumulation in rice. It is not clear which growing stage would be better for spraying different types of Si solution to reduce inorganic As in edible parts of rice. Soil pot experiments were conducted to investigate whether total As and inorganic As accumulation in rice grains was alleviated via spraying Si in As-contaminated paddy soil. The results showed that foliar Si application at the tillering or jointing stage significantly reduced As concentrations in rice husks and grain via inhibiting the translocation of As from straw to husk or grain compared with other growing stages. Spraying of Si at the tillering stage markedly decreased the concentrations of inorganic As in rice bran and polished rice, accounting for 27.3% and 61.4% respectively. Furthermore, spraying Si solution mixed with surfactant-Tween 80 not only dramatically reduced the total As in rice tissues by 48.8%, but also significantly alleviated the accumulation of inorganic As in rice grain by 49.2%. Spraying Si restricted inorganic As in rice grain through the mechanism by which foliar Si application at tillering stage increased the Si concentrations in shoot and root, which downregulated Si transporters of Lsi1 and Lsi2 in the root and Lsi6 in the blade and sheath significantly, and finally decreased As uptake and transport. Therefore, spraying Si is an alternative and efficient pathway to reduce inorganic As accumulation of rice grain in As-contaminated soil.

Tilapia were exposed to sublethal methomyl concentrations of 0, 0.2, 2, 20 or 200 μg/L for 30 days, and then transferred to methomyl-free water for 18 days. The sexual steroid hormones 17β-estradiol (E2), testosterone (T), and 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT) in tilapia testes were examined at 0, 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 days after methomyl exposure, and at 18 days after fish were transferred to methomyl-free water. There were no significant changes in the hormone parameters in testes of tilapia exposed to low concentration 0.2 and 2 μg/L methomyl compared with the controls. However, high concentration 20 and 200 μg/L methomyl had the potential to disrupt the endocrine system of male tilapia, as shown by an increase in E2 and a decrease in T and 11-KT in the testes. Thus, it would appear that the 2 μg/L methomyl might be considered the no-observed-adverse-effect level. Recovery data showed that the effects produced by the lower concentration of 20 μg/L were reversible but the effects were not reversible at the higher concentration of 200 μg/L.

The present study clearly showed that chronic exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at environmentally relevant concentrations can damage juvenile tilapia livers by modulating antioxidant enzyme activities and gene transcription, which affects toxic bioaccumulation and histological congestion. The results suggest that PCBs caused a decrease in the activity of some hepatic antioxidative and biotransformation enzymes (SOD, CAT, GST, T-GSH, and MDA) in tilapia at 7 days, as well as transcriptional changes (sod, cat, and gst). Except for some antioxidant parameters (T-GSH, GSH/GSSG, T-AOC, and MDA), significant declines and increases occurred at 14 and 21 days, respectively. Most of the antioxidant enzymatic signatures and genotoxicity significantly increased at 14 and 21 days. This study presented evidence that PCBs could result in hepatic toxicity through oxidative stress in the early growth stages of tilapia, and we speculated that oxidative stress plays an important role in embryonic developmental toxicity induced by PCBs.

In the present study, GIFT tilapia Oreochromis niloticus were exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) for 7, 14, and 21 days. Over the duration of the exposure, genotoxicity and the activity of Na+/K+-ATPase (NKA) and Ca+/Mg+-ATPase (CMA) were measured in the gill, kidney, and intestine, to evaluate changes in osmoregulatory response in O. niloticus. Our results showed significant decreases in organic NKA (except in gill tissues after 0.5 mg/L PCB-exposure) and CMA activity. The results of the genotoxicity assay showed significant increases in atp1a1a, nkcc2 (only in gill tissue), and fxyd7 (except after 21 days of 5 mg/L PCB exposure). We found significant increases in caspase proteins in the liver in the 5-mg/L PCB exposure group, and the transcripts showed dose-dependent increases between treatment groups over the exposure duration. This study presents evidence that chronic exposure to PCB could result in organic osmoregulatory response and hepatic apoptosis in GIFT tilapia.

Using the idea of Payword, the new concept of master-slave payword chain (MSPC) is proposed in this article. MSPC consists of one master payword chain and one slave payword chain. On the basis of MSPC, a new micropayment protocol called discrete micropayment protocol (DMP), is presented in this article. DMP consists of three sub-protocols: registration, payment, and settlement. Both part fairness and non-unit-wise payment can be provided by DMP.

The changes of microbial community in aquaculture systems under the effects of stocking densities and seasonality were investigated in tilapia ponds. Total DNAs were extracted from the water samples, 16S rRNA gene was amplified and the bacterial community analyzed by Illumina high-throughput sequencing obtaining 3486 OTUs, from a total read of 715,842 sequences. Basing on the analysis of bacterial compositions, richness, diversity, bacterial 16S rRNA gene abundance, water sample comparisons and existence of specific bacterial taxa within three fish ponds in a 4 months period, the study conclusively observed that the dominant phylum in all water samples were similar, and they included; Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Planctomycetes and Chlorobi, distributed in different proportions in the different months and ponds. The seasonal changes had a more pronounced effect on the bacterioplankton community than the stocking densities; however some differences between the ponds were more likely caused by feed coefficient than by stocking densities. At the same time, most bacterial communities were affected by the nutrient input except phylum Cyanobacteria that was also affected by the feed control of tilapia.

Tilapia were exposed to sublethal methomyl concentrations of 0, 0.2, 2, 20, or 200 μg/L for 30 d, and then were transferred to methomyl-free water for 18 d. Renal antioxidant parameters, including catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) , glutathione reductase (GR), total glutathione (GSH), and reduced glutathione (GSSG), were examined in tilapia at d 0, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 after starting the experiment and at 18 d after transferring to methomyl-free water. There were no significant changes in enzymatic activity and content of antioxidants in kidney of tilapia exposed to 0.2 μg/L methomyl compared to controls. The results showed significant increases in SOD, CAT, GST, GR, GPx, and level of GSSG accompanied by a decrease in GSH levels following methomyl exposure in tilapia to 2, 20, or 200 μg/L over the 30-d exposure period, suggesting the presence of oxidative stress. Thus, it would appear the 0.2 μg/L methomyl might be considered the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL). Recovery data showed that the effects produced by lower concentration of methomyl at 20 μg/L were reversible but not at the higher 200 μg/L concentration.

Hepatic antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) of Nile tilapia in response to pesticide methomyl and recovery pattern were researched by exposing tilapia to sub-lethal methomyl concentrations of 0, 0.2, 2, 20 and 200 μg/L for 30 days, and then transferred to methomyl-free water for 18 days. Hepatic SOD and CAT were measured at 10 min (day 0), 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 days after starting the experiment and at 18 days after transferring to methomyl-free water. The results showed hepatic SOD and CAT activities in 2, 20 and 200 μg/L groups were affected significantly, however, that in 0.2 μg/L group didn’t change significantly compared to control during 30-day exposure period. Thus it would appear the 0.2 μg/L methomyl might be considered the no observed adverse effect level. Recovery data showed that, for SOD, the effects produced by lower concentration of methomyl 2 μg/L were reversible but not at concentrations higher than 20 μg/L, however, for CAT, the effects produced by all the concentrations were reversible.

The chronic effect of methomyl on the antioxidant system in tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ) was investigated. Fish were exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of 0.2, 2, 20 and 200 μ gL −1 for 30 days, and then transferred to methomyl-free water for 18 days. Hepatic antioxidant parameters, including Glutathione-S-transferase (GST), Glutathione peroxidase (GPx), Glutathione reductase (GR), Reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG), were measured at 10 min (day 0), 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 days after starting the experiment and at 18 days after transferring to methomyl-free water. There were no significant changes in enzymatic activity and content of antioxidants in liver of tilapia exposed to 0.2 μg L −1 methomyl compared to controls. However, the results showed significant increases in activities of GST, GR, GPx and levels of GSSG accompanied by a decrease in GSH levels following methomyl exposure in tilapia to 2, 20 or 200 μg L −1 over the 30-day exposure period and the highest induction rates in GST, GR, GPx and GSSG were 150.87%, 163.21%, 189.76%, and 179.56% of the control respectively, and the highest inhibition rate in GSH was 50.67% of the control, suggesting the presence of oxidative stress. Thus it would appear that the 0.2 μg L −1 methomyl might be considered as the no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL). Recovery data showed that the effects produced by lower concentration of methomyl 20 μg L −1 were reversible but not at the higher 200 μg L −1 concentration.

AIM: To establish a Chinese esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cell line with high bone metastasis potency using 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) micro-pinhole scintigraphy, X ray and micro-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for exploring the mechanism of occurrence and development in esophageal cancer. METHODS: The cells came from a BALB/c nu/nu immunodeficient mouse, and oncogenic tumor tissue was from a surgical specimen from a 61-year-old male patient with ESCC. The cell growth curve was mapped and analysis of chromosome karyotype was performed. Approximately 1 × 106 oncogenic cells were injected into the left cardiac ventricle of immunodeficient mice. The bone metastatic lesions of tumor-bearing mice were detected by 99mTc-MDP scintigraphy, micro-PET/CT and X-ray, and were resected from the mice under deep anesthesia. The bone metastatic cells in the lesions were used for culture and for repeated intracardiac inoculation. This in vivo/in vitro experimental metastasis study was repeated for four cycles. All of the suspicious bone sites were confirmed by pathology. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to compare the gene expression in the parental cells and in the bone metastatic clone. RESULTS: The surgical specimen was implanted subcutaneously in immunodeficient mice and the tumorigenesis rate was 100%. First-passage oncogenic cells were named CEK-Sq-1. The chromosome karyotype analysis of the cell line was hypotriploid. The bone metastasis rate went from 20% with the first-passage oncogenic cells via intracardiac inoculation to 90% after four cycles. The established bone metastasis clone named CEK-Sq-1BM had a high potential to metastasize in bone, including mandible, humerus, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, scapula and femur. The bone metastasis lesions were successfully detected by micro-pinhole bone scintigraphy, micro-PET/CT, and X-ray. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the micro-pinhole scintigraphy, X-ray, and micro-PET/CT imaging examinations were: 89.66%/32%/80%, 88.2%/100%/89.2%, and 88.75%/77.5%/87.5%, respectively. Some gene expression difference was found between parental and bone metastasis cells. CONCLUSION: This newly established Chinese ESCC cell line and animal model may provide a useful tool for the study of the pathogenesis and development of esophageal carcinoma.
