The study recruited 168 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD). The nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Perceived Deficits Questionnaire for Depression (PDQ-D) were lower and the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST) was higher in the community volunteers than those in MDD patients. Depression-related scores (17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale [HAMD-17], Clinical Global Impressions-Severity of Illness Scale [CGI-S], and PHQ-9), functioning-related scores (Sheehan Disability Scale [SDS]), and Work Efficiency and Activity Damage-Specific Health Problems questionnaire work productivity loss were decreased, and the quality of life-related scores (European Quality of life-5 Dimensions [EQ-5D] utility score) were increased in the MDD patients. PDQ-D was decreased and DSST was increased with the increase of follow-up time. Linear regression indicated that cognitive symptoms (PDQ-D and DSST) improved more slowly than depressive symptoms (PHQ-9). At baseline, PDQ-D was related with functioning (SDS and work productivity loss). PDQ-D and DSST were related with EQ-5D utility score. In addition, at month 6, PDQ-D was related with functioning (SDS and work productivity loss) and EQ-5D utility score. Cognitive impairment might be a risk for MDD and MDD-related changes in the functioning and quality of life.

To investigate the prevalence of psychotic depression and the differences in sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and prescription patterns of psychotropic medications between patients with psychotic depression (PD) and patients with nonpsychotic depression (NPD) in China.We conducted a cross-sectional study in 13 major psychiatric hospitals or the psychiatric units of general hospitals in China from September 1, 2010, to February 28, 2011. PD was defined according to the psychotic disorder section of the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). The sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and the prescription patterns of psychotropic medications were compared between the PD and NPD groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to investigate factors associated with an increased likelihood of PD.Among 1172 MDD patients, the prevalence of psychotic features was 9.2% in the present study. The logistic regression analysis indicated that unmarried (OR = 2.08, p 0.001), frequent depressive episodes (OR = 2.10, p = 0.020), depressive episodes with suicidal ideation and attempts (OR = 1.91, p = 0.004), and patients who were prescribed any antipsychotics (OR = 2.94, p 0.001) were associated with psychotic features in patients with MDD.Cross-sectional design, retrospective recall of some data CONCLUSION: The prevalence of PD is high in China, and there were some differences in demographic and clinical characteristics between patients with PD and patients with NPD. Clinicians should regularly assess psychotic symptoms and consider intensive treatment and close monitoring when treating subjects with PD.

However, the antitumor effects of polydatin in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have not been investigated. Materials and methods: In the current study, MTT assays, transwell invasion assays and wound healing assays were performed to examine cell proliferation, invasion and migration. An apoptosis nucleosome ELISA was used to measure apoptosis. Caspase activity assays were applied to measure the activities of caspase-3/9. A Western blot assay was used to measure the change in protein levels. Results: Our data demonstrated that polydatin inhibited the proliferation of RCC cells but not normal renal epithelial cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Polydatin also triggered apoptosis in a caspase-dependent manner. Moreover, polydatin treatment also led to the downregulation of Bcl-2 and Mcl-1 and to activation of Bax. Ectopic expression of Bcl-2 and Mcl-1 or silencing of Bax could repress the apoptosis that was induced by polydatin. Moreover, incubation with polydatin also suppressed the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in RCC cells. Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a kind of mental disorder with the greatest risk of suicide, but it is often misdiagnosed as major depressive disorder (MDD) clinically. This study aimed to analyze the sociodemographic factors and clinical characteristics associated with suicide attempts (SA) in patients with BD misdiagnosed with MDD in China. Methods: A total of 1487 MDD patients were consecutively enrolled in 13 mental health centers in China. Data on patients’ sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were collected using a standardized protocol. Of these, 306 BD patients were misdiagnosed with MDD according to the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). Suicide attempters and non-attempters were classified by the suicidality module of the MINI. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association between the independent variables of interest and SA in BD patients misdiagnosed with MDD. Results: Of the 306 BD patients misdiagnosed with MDD, 225 (73.5%) were non-attempters and 81 (26.5%) were attempters. Compared to non-attempters, attempters were older (Z =2.2, p = 0.03) and had more admissions(χ2 =6.1, p = 0.013), more frequent depressive episodes, more atypical characteristics (e.g. increased appetite, weight gain, and more sleep time)(χ2 = 5.8, p = 0.016), more suicidal ideation (χ2 = 27.3, p < 0.001), more psychotic symptoms (χ2 = 7.4, p = 0.006) and more seasonal depressive episodes (χ2 = 5.6, p = 0.018). Multiple logistic regression analyses revealed that attempters were characterized by more suicidal ideation (OR = 5.7, 95% CI: 2.6–12.5) and frequent depressive episodes (OR = 2.4, 95% CI: 1.3–4.6). The limitations of this study include its cross-sectional design and data collection by suicide attempters’ retrospective recall. Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that BD patients misdiagnosed with MDD are at a higher risk of suicide, and more frequent depressive episodes and suicidal ideation are risk factors for attempted suicide. Early identification of and interventions for these risk factors might reduce the risk of suicide in BD patients misdiagnosed with MDD.

A major obstacle to achieving reasonable strength prediction of a composite only from its constituent information is in the determination of in situ strengths of the matrix. One can measure only the original strengths of the pure matrix, on the basis of which the predicted transverse strengths of a unidirectional (UD) composite are far from reality. It is impossible to reliably measure matrix in situ strengths. This paper focuses on the correlation between in situ and original strengths. Stress concentrations in a matrix owing to the introduction of fibers are attributed to the strength variation. Once stress concentration factors (SCFs) are obtained, the matrix in situ strengths are assigned as the original counterparts divided by them. Such an SCF cannot be defined following a classical approach. All of the relevant issues associated with determining it are systematically addressed in this paper. Analytical expressions for SCFs under transverse tension, transverse compression, and transverse shear are derived. Closed-form and compact formulas for all of the uniaxial strengths of a UD composite are first presented in this paper. Their application to strength predictions of a number of typical UD composites demonstrates the correctness of these formulas.

Little is known about the demographic and clinical features of the atypical subtype of major depressive disorder (MDD) patients in China. This study set out to investigate the prevalence of atypical depression in MDD patients in China, and identify its demographic and clinical features.The study was conducted in 13 major psychiatric hospitals or in the psychiatric units of general hospitals in China, and recruited a sample of 1172 patients diagnosed with MDD. The patients' demographic and clinical features and prescriptions of psychotropic drugs were collected using a standardized questionnaire designed for the study.The prevalence of atypical depression was 15.3%. In multiple logistic regression analyses, compared to the non-atypical depression patients, the atypical depression patients were more likely to have depressive episodes with suicide ideation and attempts (OR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.06, 2.10, P = 0.023), depressive episodes with psychotic features (OR = 2.15, 95% CI = 1.43, 3.22, P 0.001), seasonal depressive episodes (OR = 1.77, 95% CI = 1.12, 2.78, P = 0.014), an earlier age of onset (OR = 0.98, 95% CI = 0.96, 0.99, P = 0.001), and lifetime depressive episodes (OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.01, 1.13, P = 0.020).The assessment of atypical features was not based on a validated rating scale.Our results indicate that atypical depression is common in Chinese patients with MDD. MDD with atypical features may be more severe and debilitating than patients with non-atypical features.

Introduction This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of amisulpride in Chinese schizophrenia patients. Methods A multicenter, single-arm Phase IV study (NCT01795183). Chinese patients with schizophrenia received amisulpride for 8 weeks. The primary endpoint was ≥50% decrease in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total score from Baseline to Week 8. Results A total of 316 patients were enrolled; 295 were included in the effectiveness analysis; 66.8% (197/295) achieved ≥50% decrease in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total score from Baseline to Week 8. Nine patients discontinued treatment because of adverse events. Discussion Amisulpride had clinical effectiveness and was relatively well tolerated in Chinese patients with schizophrenia.

To predict ultimate strength of a laminated composite subjected to any load only using its constituent fiber and matrix properties measured independently, three challenging problems must be resolved with high success. First, internal stresses in the fiber and matrix must be accurately determined. Second, efficient failure detection for laminae and laminate upon the internal stresses must be achieved. Last but not the least, input data for the in-situ strengths of the constituents must be defined correctly from their original counterparts, as the former, different from the latter, are immeasurable. This presentation briefly summarizes our work on the targeted subject. All of the three issues have been systematically addressed with reasonable success.

In this paper, the writer analyzed a three-ply reinforced concrete frame structure with specially shaped columns through compiling a program by finite elements program of ANSYS. The results of simulated approached to experimental dates by comparison them. Which mean that use ANSYS program simulated ductility performance of reinforced concrete frame structure with specially shaped columns under reversed cyclic load is feasible. The simulation reflected the ductility of reinforced concrete frame structure, in which from load-on till destruction is perfectly.

This study was designed to examine the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of the Psychotropic-Related Sexual Dysfunction Questionnaire (PRSexDQ-SALSEX) in patients with schizophrenia taking antipsychotics. It was conducted in a sample of 135 patients aged between 18 and 50 years old and diagnosed with schizophrenia. To predict strength of a composite loaded arbitrarily using its constituent information, in situ strengths of the matrix, different from its original counterparts, must be provided. Experiments can measure only the original strengths. Nobody is practically able to measure an in situ one. In our previous work, a stress concentration was found to be the main reason causing the difference between the in situ and the original strengths. In this study, we point out that the previous evaluation on the stress concentration factor (SCF) is valid only in the case of a transverse tension. When a unidirectional (UD) composite is subjected to a transverse compression, its failure surface has an inclined angle to the loading direction and a different SCF from that under a transverse tension is resulted. Explicit derivation of the SCF under a transverse compression is presented in this work. The matrix in situ transverse tensile and compressive strengths are assigned as its original counterparts divided by the respective SCFs. These in situ strengths together with the other original constituent properties are used as input data for strength prediction of a number of UD composites. Favorable correlation between the theoretical and experimental data has been shown.
