Abstract Lung cancer stands as the leading cause of mortality among all types of tumors, with over 40% of cases being lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Family with sequence similarity 83 member A (FAM83A) emerges as a notable focus due to its frequent overexpression in LUAD. Despite this, the precise role of FAM83A remains elusive. This study addresses this gap by unveiling the crucial involvement of FAM83A in maintaining the cancer stem cell-like (CSC-like) phenotype of LUAD. Through a global proteomics analysis, the study identifies human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2 or ErbB2) as a crucial target of FAM83A. Mechanistically, FAM83A facilitated ErbB2 expression at the posttranslational modification level via the E3 ubiquitin ligase STUB1 (STIP1-homologous U-Box containing protein 1). More importantly, the interaction between FAM83A and ErbB2 at Arg241 promotes calcineurin (CALN)-mediated dephosphorylation of ErbB2, followed by inhibition of STUB1-mediated ubiquitin-proteasomal ErbB2 degradation. The maintenance of the CSC-like phenotype by FAM83A, achieved through the posttranslational regulation of ErbB2, offers valuable insights for identifying potential therapeutic targets for LUAD.

Abstract Improving the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) requires deep understanding of the reactive transport processes inside the catalyst layers (CLs). In this study, a particle-overlapping model is developed for accurately describing the hierarchical structures and oxygen reactive transport processes in CLs. The analytical solutions derived from this model indicate that carbon particle overlap increases ionomer thickness, reduces specific surface areas of ionomer and carbon, and further intensifies the local oxygen transport resistance (R other). The relationship between R other and roughness factor predicted by the model in the range of 800-1600 s m-1 agrees well with the experiments. Then, a multiscale model is developed by coupling the particle-overlapping model with cell-scale models, which is validated by comparing with the polarization curves and local current density distribution obtained in experiments. The relative error of local current density distribution is below 15% in the ohmic polarization region. Finally, the multiscale model is employed to explore effects of CL structural parameters including Pt loading, I/C, ionomer coverage and carbon particle radius on the cell performance as well as the phase-change-induced (PCI) flow and capillary-driven (CD) flow in CL. The result demonstrates that the CL structural parameters have significant effects on the cell performance as well as the PCI and CD flows. Optimizing the CL structure can increase the current density and further enhance the heat-pipe effect within the CL, leading to overall higher PCI and CD rates. The maximum increase of PCI and CD rates can exceed 145%. Besides, the enhanced heat-pipe effect causes the reverse flow regions of PCI and CD near the CL/PEM interface, which can occupy about 30% of the CL. The multiscale model significantly contributes to a deep understanding of reactive transport and multiphase heat transfer processes inside PEMFCs.

Abstract Disposable bamboo chopsticks (DBCs) are difficult to recycle, which inevitably cause secondary pollution. Based on energy and environmental issues, we propose a facile strategy to fabricate floatable photocatalyst (fPC) coated onto DBCs, which can be flexibly used in water purification. The photocatalyst of titania and titanium carbide on bamboo (TiO2/TiC@b) was successfully constructed from TiC-Ti powders and DBCs using a coating technique followed heat treatment in carbon powder, and the fPC exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light irradation. The analysis results indicate that rutile TiO2 forms on TiC during heat treatment, achieving a low-density material with an average value of approximately 0.5233 g/cm3. The coatings of TiO2/TiC on the bamboo are firm and uniform, with a particle size of about 20–50 nm. XPS results show that a large amount of oxygen vacancies is generated, due to the reaction atmosphere of more carbon and less oxygen, further favoring to narrowing the band gap of TiO2. Furthermore, TiO2 formed on residual TiC would induce the formation of a heterojunction, which effectively inhibits the photogenerated electron–hole recombination via the charge transfer effect. Notably, the degradation of dye Rhodamine B (Rh.B) is 62.4% within 3 h, while a previous adsorption of 36.0% for 1 h. The excellent photocatalytic performance of TiO2/TiC@b can be attributed to the enhanced reaction at the water/air interface due to the reduced light loss in water, improved visible-light response, increased accessible area and charge transfer effect. Our findings show that the proposed strategy achieves a simple, low-cost, and mass-producible method to fabricate fPC onto the used DBCs, which is expected to applied in multiple fields, especially in waste recycling and water treatment.

Objective To construct a machine learning prediction model for postoperative liver injury in patients with non-liver surgery based on preoperative and intraoperative medication indicators. Methods A case-control study was conducted on 315 patients with liver injury after non-liver surgery selected from the databases developed by 3 large general hospitals from January 2014 to September 2022.With the positive/negative ratio of 1:3, 928 cases in corresponding period with non-liver surgery and without liver injury were randomly matched as negative control cases.These 1 243 patients were randomly divided into the modeling group (n=869) and the validation group (n=374) in a ratio of 7:3 using the R language setting code.Preoperative clinical indicators (basic information, medical history, relevant scale score, surgical information and results of laboratory tests) and intraoperative medication were used to construct the prediction model for liver injury after non-liver surgery based on 4 machine learning algorithms, k-nearest neighbor (KNN), support vector machine linear (SVM), logic regression (LR) and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost).In the validation group, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, precision-recall curve (P-R), decision curve analysis (DCA) curve, Kappa value, sensitivity, specificity, Brier score, and F1 score were applied to evaluate the efficacy of model. Results The model established by 4 machine learning algorithms to predict postoperative liver injury after non-liver surgery was optimal using the XGBoost algorithm.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was 0.916(95%CI: 0.883~0.949), area under the precision-recall curve (AUPRC) was 0.841, Brier score was 0.097, and sensitivity and specificity was 78.95% and 87.10%, respectively. Conclusion The postoperative liver injury prediction model for non-liver surgery based on the XGBoost algorithm has effective prediction for the occurrence of postoperative liver injury.

Objective: Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) is a debilitating degenerative joint ailment afflicting millions of patients. Numerous studies have assessed the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from various sources for KOA treatment, yet direct comparisons are scarce and inconsistent. Furthermore, network meta-analysis (NMA) conclusions require updating, while the safety of MSCs therapy remains contentious. This study evaluates therapeutic approaches involving MSCs from different sources in patients with KOA through randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies. The objective is to compare the effectiveness and safety of MSCs strategies from various sources for KOA treatment. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted to identify RCTs and cohort studies comparing different sources of MSCs in KOA patients. A randomized effects network meta-analysis was used to concurrently evaluate both direct and indirect comparisons across all protocols. Results: The NMA included 16 RCTS and reported 1005 participants. Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) were the most effective treatment, showing significant improvements in the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Short Form 36 (SF-36 scale), the International Knee Literature Committee Knee Evaluation Scale (IKDC subjective scores), and the Knee Injury and OA Outcome Score (KOOS). The probabilities are P = 85.3, P = 70.5, P = 88 and P = 87, respectively. Compared with placebo, AD-MSCs resulted in a VAS Score (SMD 0.97; 95%CI 0.37, 1.57), IKDC subjective scores (SMD −0.71; 95%CI −1.20, −0.21) was significantly reduced. Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) showed significant improvements in the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University OA (WOMAC) (P = 91.4). Compared with placebo, UC-MSCs had a higher WOMAC Score (SMD 1.65; 95%CI 0.27, 3.03) and ranked first. Compared with MSCs, placebo emerged as the safer option (P = 74.9), with a notable reduction in AEs associated with HA treatment (RR 0.77; 95%CI 0.61, 0.97). AD-MSCs were found to have the least favorable impact on AEs with a probability of P = 13.3. Conclusions: This network meta-analysis established that MSCs offer pain relief and enhance various knee scores in KOA patients compared to conventional treatment. It also identifies other therapeutic avenues warranting further exploration through high-quality studies. Nonetheless, it underscores the necessity to emphasize the potential complications and safety concerns associated with MSCs.

Bio-inspiration offers researchers innovative perspectives and methodologies, stimulating the advancement of high-performance, high-durability, and added-value materials, structures, and products. Inspired by the lightweight, high-strength, and highly stable glass sponges (GSs), five types of glass sponge lattice structures (GSLSs) were successfully designed and manufactured by selective laser melting (SLM) with Ti6Al4V. By conducting a comparative analysis of unit cell design and manufacturing deviations, we assess their impact on the compressive properties of GSLSs. Notably, the original GSLS with circle-/grid-like heterogeneous geometries exhibits outstanding overall compression performance, including stability, stress dispersion and unique cell-by-cell and layer-by-layer fracture mechanisms among GSLSs, which are attributable to their reinforced diagonal struts and heterogeneous unit cells. Hence, three strategies for unit cell design and optimization were proposed. These discoveries guide the future design and optimization of lattice structures (LSs) and offer potential applications for GSLSs in aerospace, biomedicine, automobiles, architecture, and wearable products.

Abstract Osteosarcoma (OS) is a prevalent bone solid malignancy that primarily affects adolescents, particularly boys aged 14–19. This aggressive form of cancer often leads to deadly lung cancer due to its high migration ability. Experimental evidence suggests that programmed cell death (PCD) plays a crucial role in the development of osteosarcoma. Various forms of PCD, including apoptosis, ferroptosis, autophagy, necroptosis, and pyroptosis, contribute significantly to the progression of osteosarcoma. Additionally, different signaling pathways such as STAT3/c‐Myc signal pathway, JNK signl pathway, PI3k/AKT/mTOR signal pathway, WNT/β‐catenin signal pathway, and RhoA signal pathway can influence the development of osteosarcoma by regulating PCD in osteosarcoma cell. Therefore, targeting PCD and the associated signaling pathways could offer a promising therapeutic approach for treating osteosarcoma.

Abstract Background Knee joint pain has been demonstrated to be a separate risk factor for falling. A common pain site in the knee, anterior knee pain(AKP), is believed to be associated with early knee osteoarthritis (KOA).This study investigated the relationship between falls and AKP in people with or at risk for KOA. Methods Four years of follow-up data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative cohort trial, a large-scale, multicenter observational investigation, were analyzed in this study. A patellar quadriceps tenderness/tendinitis knee exam was performed to evaluate AKP. Falls were self-reported. The associations between falls (recurrent falls: ≥2 falls/year; any falls: ≥1 fall(s)/year) and AKP were analyzed using the generalized estimation equation of repeated logistic regression and adjusted for confounding variables. Results The study analyzed data from 3,318 participants, split into two groups: those with AKP (720 participants) and those without AKP (2,598 participants). The primary outcome of the study, which focused on repeated falls, revealed that participants with AKP were 1.27 times more likely to experience repeated falls compared to those without AKP (95% CI: 1.07–1.52, P = 0.007). However, when considering any falls experienced by an individual as an additional outcome, it is important to note that our findings did not indicate a significant predictive effect of AKP on any falls investigated. Sensitivity analyses, which excluded knee arthroplasty cases, yielded consistent results with the aforementioned findings. Conclusions Older adults with AKP experience a higher frequency of falls compared to those without AKP in individuals diagnosed with KOA or at a high risk of developing KOA.

In an experiment performed on the Shenguang-III prototype laser facility, collective Thomson scattering (TS) is used to study the spatial growth of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a gas-filled hohlraum by detecting the SBS-driven ion acoustic wave. High-quality time-resolved SBS and TS spectra are obtained simultaneously in the experiment, and these are analyzed by a steady-state code based on the ray-tracing model. The analysis indicates that ion–ion collisions may play an important role in suppressing SBS growth in the Au plasma; as a result, the SBS excited in the filled gas region is dominant. In the early phase of the laser pulse, SBS originates primarily from the high-density plasma at the edges of the interaction beam channel, which is piled up by the heating of the interaction beam. Throughout the duration of the laser pulse, the presence of the TS probe beam might mitigate SBS by perturbing the density distribution around the region overlapping with the interaction beam.

Abstract In laser-driven inertial confinement fusion, driving pressure boosting and smoothing are major challenges. A proposed hybrid-drive (HD) scheme can offer such ideal HD pressure performing stable implosion and nonstagnation ignition. Here we report that in the hemispherical and planar ablator targets installed in the semicylindrical hohlraum scaled down from the spherical hohlraum of the designed ignition target, under indirect-drive (ID) laser energies of ~43–50 kJ, the peak radiation temperature of 200 ± 6 eV is achieved. And using only direct-drive (DD) laser energies of 3.6–4.0 kJ at an intensity of 1.8 × 1015 W/cm2, in the hemispherical and planar targets the boosted HD pressures reach 3.8–4.0 and 3.5–3.6 times the radiation ablation pressure respectively. In all the above experiments, significant HD pressure smoothing and the important phenomenon of how a symmetric strong HD shock suppresses the asymmetric ID shock pre-compressed fuel are demonstrated. The backscattering and hot-electron energy fractions both of which are about one-third of that in the DD scheme are also measured.

Abstract The band gap of rutile TiO2 has been narrowed, via the formation of oxygen vacancies (OVs) during heat treatment in carbon powder (cHT) with embedding TiO2 coatings. The narrowed band gap efficiently improves the visible light response of TiO2 coatings, to further enhance the visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity. The change in OVs during cHT has been studied by manipulation of cHT temperature and time. The effect of OVs on the band structure of nonstoichiometric TiO2-x has been further calculated by first-principles calculations. With raising the temperature, SEM images show that the nano-size fiber-like structure forms on the surface of TiO2 coatings, and the amount of the fiber-like structure significantly increases and their size changes from nano to micro under 800 °C, contributing to cause an increase in accessible surface area. The UV–Vis results reveal that the band gap of TiO2 has been narrowed during cHT, due to the formed oxygen vacancies. The XPS results further confirm that the formation of surface defects including OVs, and the XPS depth profile further shows the decreased relative amount of O whereas increased relative amount of carbon. Notably, after cHT for TiO2 coatings, the photocatalytic activity first increases then decreases with raising the temperature, achieving approximately 3 times at 850 °C. The first-principles calculation suggest that the OVs in TiO2 coatings with localized electrons could facilitate the band gap narrowing, further favoring to enhance the photocatalytic activity under visible light.

This study presents a pioneering synthesis of a direct Z-scheme Y2TmSbO7/GdYBiNbO7 heterojunction photocatalyst (YGHP) using an ultrasound-assisted hydrothermal synthesis technique. Additionally, novel photocatalytic nanomaterials, namely Y2TmSbO7 and GdYBiNbO7, were fabricated via the hydrothermal fabrication technique. A comprehensive range of characterization techniques, including X-ray diffractometry, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, UV-visible spectrophotometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray energy-dispersive spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, photocurrent testing, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance, was employed to thoroughly investigate the morphological features, composition, chemical, optical, and photoelectric properties of the fabricated samples. The photocatalytic performance of YGHP was assessed in the degradation of the pesticide acetochlor (AC) and the mineralization of total organic carbon (TOC) under visible light exposure, demonstrating eximious removal efficiencies. Specifically, AC and TOC exhibited removal rates of 99.75% and 97.90%, respectively. Comparative analysis revealed that YGHP showcased significantly higher removal efficiencies for AC compared to the Y2TmSbO7, GdYBiNbO7, or N-doped TiO2 photocatalyst, with removal rates being 1.12 times, 1.21 times, or 3.07 times higher, respectively. Similarly, YGHP demonstrated substantially higher removal efficiencies for TOC than the aforementioned photocatalysts, with removal rates 1.15 times, 1.28 times, or 3.51 times higher, respectively. These improvements could be attributed to the Z-scheme charge transfer configuration, which preserved the preferable redox capacities of Y2TmSbO7 and GdYBiNbO7. Furthermore, the stability and durability of YGHP were confirmed, affirming its potential for practical applications. Trapping experiments and electron spin resonance analyses identified active species generated by YGHP, namely •OH, •O2−, and h+, allowing for comprehensive analysis of the degradation mechanisms and pathways of AC. Overall, this investigation advances the development of efficient Z-scheme heterostructural materials and provides valuable insights into formulating sustainable remediation strategies for combatting AC contamination.

A new catalyst, Sm2NdSbO7, was synthesized for the first time by solid-phase sintering. The study utilized X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to examine the structural characteristics of monocrystal BiDyO3, monocrystal Sm2NdSbO7 and Sm2NdSbO7/BiDyO3 heterojunction photocatalysts (SBHP) prepared by solid-phase sintering. The Sm2NdSbO7 photocatalyst owned a pyrochlorite structure, belonged to the face-centered cubic crystal system, possessed a space group of Fd3m and a bandgap width of 2.750 eV. After 145 min of visible light irradiation (145-VLIRD), the removal rate (RMR) of methyl parathion (MP) or total organic carbon of SBHP was 100% or 97.58%, respectively. After 145-VLIRD, the photocatalytic degradation rates of SBHP to MP were 1.13 times, 1.20 times, and 2.43 times higher than those of the Sm2NdSbO7 photocatalyst, the BiDyO3 photocatalyst, and the nitrogen-doped TiO2 catalyst, respectively. The experimental results showed that SBHP had good photocatalytic activity. After four cycles of cyclic degradation experiments with SBHP, the elimination rates of MP were 98.76%, 97.44%, 96.32%, and 95.72%, respectively. The results showed that SBHP had good stability. Finally, the possible degradation pathways and degradation mechanisms of MP were speculated. In this study, we successfully developed a high-efficiency heterojunction catalyst which responded to visible light and possessed significant photocatalytic activity. The catalyst could be used in photocatalytic reaction system for eliminating the harmful organic pollutants from wastewater.

The high prevalence of constipation after fracture surgery brings intolerable discomfort to patients on the one hand, and affects post-surgery nutrient absorption on the other hand, resulting in poor prognosis. Given the acknowledged probiotic properties of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, 100 fracture patients with post-surgery constipation were centrally enrolled and administered orally with L. rhamnosus JYLR-127 to assess the efficacy of probiotic-adjuvant therapy in alleviating post-fracture constipation symptoms. The results showed that L. rhamnosus JYLR-127 improved fecal properties, promoted gastrointestinal recovery, and relieved constipation symptoms, which were mainly achieved by elevating Firmicutes (p < 0.01) and descending Bacteroidetes (p < 0.001), hence remodeling the disrupted intestinal microecology. In addition, blood routine presented a decrease in C-reactive protein levels (p < 0.05) and an increase in platelet counts (p < 0.05) after probiotic supplementation, prompting the feasibility of L. rhamnosus JYLR-127 in anti-inflammation, anti-infection and hemorrhagic tendency prevention after fracture surgery. Our study to apply probiotics in ameliorating constipation after fracture surgery is expected to bless the bothered patients, and provide broader application scenarios for L. rhamnosus preparations.

Extrapolation of implosion performance between different laser energy scales is investigated for indirect drive through a semi-hydro-equivalent design. Since radiation transport is non-hydro-equivalent, the peak radiation temperature of the hohlraum and the ablation velocity of the capsule ablator are not scale-invariant when the sizes of the hohlraum and the capsule are scale-varied. A semi-hydro-equivalent design method that keeps the implosion velocity Vi, adiabat αF, and PL/Rhc2 (where PL is the laser power and Rhc is the hohlraum and capsule scale length) scale-invariant, is proposed to create hydrodynamically similar implosions. The semi-hydro-equivalent design and the scaled implosion performance are investigated for the 100 kJ Laser Facility (100 kJ-scale) and the National Ignition Facility (NIF-scale) with about 2 MJ laser energy. It is found that the one-dimensional implosion performance is approximately hydro-equivalent when Vi and αF are kept the same. Owing to the non-hydro-equivalent radiation transport, the yield-over-clean without α-particle heating (YOCnoα) is slightly lower at 100 kJ-scale than at NIF-scale for the same scaled radiation asymmetry or the same initial perturbation of the hydrodynamic instability. The overall scaled two-dimensional implosion performance is slightly lower at 100 kJ-scale. The general Lawson criterion factor scales as χnoα2D∼S1.06±0.04 (where S is the scale-variation factor) for the semi-hydro-equivalent implosion design with a moderate YOCnoα. Our study indicates that χnoα ≈ 0.379 is the minimum requirement for the 100 kJ-scale implosion to demonstrate the ability to achieve marginal ignition at NIF-scale.

Abstract Background Osteosarcoma (OS) is a fatal adolescent tumor, which is susceptible to remote metastases at an early stage, and its treatment remains a major challenge. ubiquitin‐specific protease 10 (USP10) is primarily located in the cytoplasm and can therefore deubiquitinate various cytoplasmic proteins. However, the expression and mechanism of USP10 in OS remain ambiguous. The aim of this study was to explore how USP10 affects Yes‐associated protein1 (YAP1) to influence the metastasis and epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Methods Western blotting, qRT‐PCR, and immunohistochemical (IHC) analyses were performed to evaluate USP10 and YAP1 levels. Using wound healing and transwell tests, the roles and molecular pathways of USP10 and YAP1 ability to migrate and invade of OS were investigated, and cell morphological alterations were examined using phalloidin staining. Results Our results indicated that USP10, a new type of deubiquitinating protease, is increased in OS tissues and cells contrasted with adjacent healthy tissues. Overexpression of USP10 correlated with tumor size, distant metastasis, and TNM stage, and was an independent factor of poor prognosis in OS patients. Also, USP10 expression is closely connected with the incident of OS metastasis and tumor size. Functional assays revealed that USP10 knockdown suppressed cell migrating and invading ability and inhibited the EMT of OS cells in vivo and in vitro. In addition, we showed that USP10 knockdown decreased the levels of YAP1, which is an important positive regulator of migration and invasion in many cancers. We also found a significant positive correlation between USP10 and YAP1 levels, further demonstrating that USP10‐induced migration and EMT are based on YAP1 in OS cells. In a mechanistic way, USP10 stabilizes the expression of YAP1 by mediating its deubiquitination in OS cells. Conclusion Together, this study showed that USP10 can directly interact with YAP1 to reduce ubiquitinated YAP1, thereby stabilizing its protein levels and affecting EMT and distant metastasis in OS cells.

Selective Laser Melting (SLM) prepared 316L stainless steel has been widely deployed in academia and industry today. This paper studied the influence of laser power (50–450 W) and scanning speed (1000–2800 mm/s) on formability, hardness, microstructure, internal and external quality, and porosity of the built, and further analyzed the internal relationship between input energy density and them. The results revealed that high laser power needs to match high scanning speed to obtain better formability; that is, appropriate energy density was the fundamental guarantee of formability. Besides, high energy density will lead to a smaller ratio of width and height (W/H) and a larger area of the molten pool. And the cellular grain's size increased significantly from 181 to 1615 nm, with the energy density increasing from 26.8 to 750.0 J/mm3. In addition, the sample's quality was also related to the energy density. And the porosity variation trend was similar to that of surface roughness, indicating a strong correlation between internal quality and surface quality.

A novel photocatalytic nanomaterial, Ho2YSbO7, was successfully synthesized for the first time using the solvothermal synthesis technique. In addition, a Ho2YSbO7/Bi2MoO6 heterojunction photocatalyst (HBHP) was prepared via the hydrothermal fabrication technique. Extensive characterizations of the synthesized samples were conducted using various instruments, such as an X-ray diffractometer, a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, a Raman spectrometer, a UV-visible spectrophotometer, an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, and a transmission electron microscope, as well as X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, a photocurrent test, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance. The photocatalytic activity of the HBHP was evaluated for the degradation of diuron (DRN) and the mineralization of total organic carbon (TOC) under visible light exposure for 152 min. Remarkable removal efficiencies were achieved, with 99.78% for DRN and 97.19% for TOC. Comparative analysis demonstrated that the HBHP exhibited markedly higher removal efficiencies for DRN compared to Ho2YSbO7, Bi2MoO6, or N-doped TiO2 photocatalyst, with removal efficiencies 1.13 times, 1.21 times, or 2.95 times higher, respectively. Similarly, the HBHP demonstrated significantly higher removal efficiencies for TOC compared to Ho2YSbO7, Bi2MoO6, or N-doped TiO2 photocatalyst, with removal efficiencies 1.17 times, 1.25 times, or 3.39 times higher, respectively. Furthermore, the HBHP demonstrated excellent stability and reusability. The mechanisms which could enhance the photocatalytic activity remarkably and the involvement of the major active species were comprehensively discussed, with superoxide radicals identified as the primary active species, followed by hydroxyl radicals and holes. The results of this study contribute to the advancement of efficient heterostructural materials and offer valuable insights into the development of sustainable remediation strategies for addressing DRN contamination.

A challenge remains in achieving adequate surface roughness of SLM fabricated interior channels, which is crucial for fuel delivery in the space industry. This study investigated the surface roughness of interior fine flow channels (1 mm diameter) embedded in SLM fabricated TC4 alloy space components. A machine learning approach identified layer thickness as a significant factor affecting interior channel surface roughness, with an importance score of 1.184, followed by scan speed and laser power with scores of 0.758 and 0.512, respectively. The roughness resulted from thin layer thickness of 20 µm, predominantly formed through powder adherence, while from thicker layer of 50 µm, the roughness was mainly due to the stair step effect. Slow scan speeds increased melt pools solidification time at roof overhangs, causing molten metal to sag under gravity. Higher laser power increased melt pools temperature and led to dross formation at roof overhangs. Smaller hatch spaces increased roughness due to overlapping of melt tracks, while larger hatch spaces reduced surface roughness but led to decreased part density. The surface roughness was recorded at 34 µm for roof areas and 26.15 µm for floor areas. These findings contribute to potential adoption of TC4 alloy components in the space industry.

Eu2SmSbO7 and ZnBiEuO4 were synthesized for the first time using the hydrothermal method. Eu2SmSbO7/ZnBiEuO4 heterojunction photocatalyst (EZHP) was synthesized for the first time using the solvothermal method. The crystal cell parameter of Eu2SmSbO7 was 10.5547 Å. The band gap width of Eu2SmSbO7 was measured and found to be 2.881 eV. The band gap width of ZnBiEuO4 was measured and found to be 2.571 eV. EZHP efficiently degraded the pesticide chlorpyrifos under visible light irradiation (VLID). After VLID of 160 min, the conversion rate of the chlorpyrifos concentration reached 100%, while the conversion rate of the total organic carbon (TOC) concentration was 98.02% using EZHP. After VLID of 160 min, the photocatalytic degradation conversion rates of chlorpyrifos using EZHP were 1.13 times, 1.19 times, and 2.84 times those using Eu2SmSbO7, ZnBiEuO4, and nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide (N-doped TiO2), respectively. The photocatalytic activity could be ranked as follows: EZHP > Eu2SmSbO7 > ZnBiEuO4 > N-doped TiO2. The conversion rates of chlorpyrifos were 98.16%, 97.03%, 96.03%, and 95.06% for four cycles of experiments after VLID of 160 min using EZHP. This indicated that EZHP was stable and could be reused. In addition, the experiments with the addition of capture agents demonstrated that the oxidation removal ability of three oxidation free radicals for degrading chlorpyrifos obeyed the following order: hydroxyl radical > superoxide anion > holes. This study examined the intermediates of chlorpyrifos during the photocatalytic degradation of chlorpyrifos, and a degradation path was proposed, at the same time, the degradation mechanism of chlorpyrifos was revealed. This study provides a scientific basis for the development of efficient heterojunction photocatalysts.

Abstract Background Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies, frequently accompanied by metastasis and aerobic glycolysis. Cancer cells adjust their metabolism by modulating the PKM alternative splicing and facilitating PKM2 isoform expression. Therefore, identifying factors and mechanisms that control PKM alternative splicing is significant for overcoming the current challenges in ATC treatment. Results In this study, the expression of RBX1 was largely enhanced in the ATC tissues. Our clinical tests suggested that high RBX1 expression was significantly related to poor survival. The functional analysis indicated that RBX1 facilitated the metastasis of ATC cells by enhancing the Warburg effect, and PKM2 played a key role in RBX1-mediated aerobic glycolysis. Furthermore, we confirmed that RBX1 regulates PKM alternative splicing and promotes the PKM2-mediated Warburg effect in ATC cells. Moreover, ATC cell migration and aerobic glycolysis induced by RBX1-mediated PKM alternative splicing are dependent on the destruction of the SMAR1/HDAC6 complex. RBX1, as an E3 ubiquitin ligase, degrades SMAR1 in ATC through the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway. Conclusion Overall, our study identified the mechanism underlying the regulation of PKM alternative splicing in ATC cells for the first time and provides evidence about the effect of RBX1 on cellular adaptation to metabolic stress.

Graphene oxide (GO) is regarded as a promising candidate to construct solar absorbers for addressing freshwater crisis, but the easy delamination of GO in water poses a critical challenge for practical solar desalination. Herein, we improve the stability of GO membranes by a self-crosslinking poly (ionic liquid) (PIL) in a mild condition, which crosslinks neighbouring GO nanosheets without blemishing the hydrophilic structure of GO. By further adding carbon nanotubes (CNTs), the sandwiched GO/CNT@PIL (GCP) membrane displays a good stability in pH = 1 or 13 solution even for 270 days. The molecular dynamics simulation results indicate that the generation of water nanofluidics in nanochannels of GO nanosheets remarkably reduces the water evaporation enthalpy in GCP membrane, compared to bulk water. Consequently, the GCP membrane exhibits a high evaporation rate (1.87 kg m−2 h−1) and displays stable evaporation rates for 14 h under 1 kW m−2 irradiation. The GCP membrane additionally works very well when using different water sources (e.g., dye-polluted water) or even strong acidic solution (pH = 1) or basic solution (pH = 13). More importantly, through bundling pluralities of GCP membrane, an efficient solar desalination device is developed to produce drinkable water from seawater. The average daily drinkable water amount in sunny day is 10.1 kg m−2, which meets with the daily drinkable water needs of five adults. The high evaporation rate, long-time durability and good scalability make the GCP membrane an outstanding candidate for practical solar seawater desalination.

The first laser–plasma interaction experiment using lasers of eight beams grouped into one octad has been conducted on the Shenguang Octopus facility. Although each beam intensity is below its individual threshold for stimulated Brillouin backscattering (SBS), collective behaviors are excited to enhance the octad SBS. In particular, when two-color/cone lasers with wavelength separation 0.3 nm are used, the backward SBS reflectivities show novel behavior in which beams of longer wavelength achieve higher SBS gain. This property of SBS can be attributed to the rotation of the wave vectors of common ion acoustic waves due to the competition of detunings between geometrical angle and wavelength separation. This mechanism is confirmed using massively parallel supercomputer simulations with the three-dimensional laser–plasma interaction code LAP3D.

Sleeping postures are one of the indicators for judging sleep quality and preventing sudden diseases. The sleeping postures not only affect people’s sleep quality but also has great significance for the diagnosis of apnea syndrome and bedsores. To realize and recognize the laying positions, this paper researches the regularized extreme learning (RELM) algorithm to analyze the pressure due to lying positions. Based on this algorithm first, the array pressure sensor is used to obtain the back lying posture pressure image, and the image is pre-processed to complete the extraction of multiple feature values (Geometric features, Energy features, and Colour features). Second, the multi-feature values are normalized and finally, these multi-feature values are trained and predicted by the RELM algorithm. In concluding this, the accuracy of lying posture recognition was the highest, achieving 98.75 percent, this is when 1120 datasets of feature values were used as training data and 160 sets as test data while the hidden nodes were 80. RELM algorithm can overcome the problems of extreme learning (ELM) algorithm, such as slow learning speed and local minimum value, and so on. Therefore, this method can be applied in the scenarios of lying posture recognition.

A rapid identification method of microcrystalline cellulose adulteration by near infrared spectroscopy was studied. Based on the near-infrared spectrum data of microcrystalline cellulose samples and adulterants (soluble starch, wheat flour), the material spectrum database and the adulterant spectrum database were created respectively, and the microcrystalline cellulose classification and the adulterant models were also established. A rapid identification method for microcrystalline cellulose adulteration was established by using the Adulterant Screen algorithm technology for calculation and analysis. The minimum detected content of single component adulteration of microcrystalline fiber powder was 2% soluble starch and 1% wheat flour, and the accurate recognition rate was 100%. When the adulteration of two components (soluble starch + wheat flour) was two to ten times of the detection limit concentration of one component, the accurate recognition rate was 100%. The accurate recognition rate of unknown sample microcrystalline cellulose above the detection limit is 100%. The method is simple, rapid and reliable, and can quickly identify adulteration of microcrystalline cellulose samples. It can be effectively applied to the adulteration detection and identification of daily microcrystalline cellulose samples, which could provide technical support for the customs to crack down on tax evasion and evasion.

Abstract Injuries and infections of skin and soft tissue are commonly encountered in primary health care and are challenging to manage. Vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) is generally used in clinical treatment, but current commercial methods of VSD have some disadvantages, such as easy blockage, nonantibacterial effects, and inconvenient curved surfaces. Herein, we report a functional zinc oxide/jackfruit aerogel (ZnO/JFA) composite material that is ultralight, superabsorbent and antibacterial as a new antibacterial VSD wound dressing. The JFA is carbonized from fresh jackfruit, and the JFA exhibits superhydrophilicity and superabsorbability. The water absorption rate of JFA was up to 1209.39%, and the SBF absorption rate was up to 1384.22%. The water absorption rate of ZnO/JFA was up to 494.47%, and the SBF absorption rate was up to 473.71%. The JFA and ZnO/JFA possess a pipeline structure, which is beneficial for absorbing wound exudates. In addition, surface modification of nanosized ZnO and its effects on antibacterial properties and biocompatibility were performed. When the concentration of ZnO/JFA was 3.125 mg/mL, the survival rate of human fibroblast cells was close to 80%, while the antibacterial rates against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli were up to 99.06%, 75.28% and 93.58%, respectively. Moreover, a 3D printed assisted device was introduced to make the ZnO/JFA wound dressing more attached to the bottom of the wound on a curved surface. An integrated device was formed under the printing mold, and then animal experiments were conducted in vivo. The results showed that a healing rate of almost 100% for infected skin wounds was obtained with this novel VSD device after 14 days, compared to only 79.65% without the VSD device. This novel VSD with a negative pressure suction dressing is beneficial for healing infectious wounds. Graphical Abstract

A lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) based on Shan-Chen pseudo-potential model is used to investigate the process of droplets merging and shedding on a gradient wetting circular surface. The effects of wetting gradient, radius, and radius ratio on droplet merging and shedding were mainly explored. The results show that applying a wetting gradient on the circumferential surface can accelerate the process of droplet merging and shedding. The velocity of droplets merging and shedding increase with the increase of the wetting gradient. The more hydrophilic the original surface, the better the optimization effect of accelerating drainage is by applying a wetting gradient. The radius and radius ratio significantly affect droplets merging and shedding on the gradient wetting surface. The larger the radius and radius ratio, the shorter the droplets merging and shedding time.

Cancer is a serious disease with an abnormal proliferation of organ tissues; it is characterized by malignant infiltration and growth that affects human life. Traditional cancer therapies such as resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy have a low cure rate and often cause irreversible damage to the body. In recent years, since the traditional treatment of cancer is still very far from perfect, researchers have begun to focus on non-invasive near-infrared (NIR)-responsive natural macromolecular hydrogel assembly drugs (NIR-NMHADs). Due to their unique biocompatibility and extremely high drug encapsulation, coupling with the spatiotemporal controllability of NIR, synergistic photothermal therapy (PTT), photothermal therapy (PDT), chemotherapy (CT) and immunotherapy (IT) has created excellent effects and good prospects for cancer treatment. In addition, some emerging bioengineering technologies can also improve the effectiveness of drug delivery systems. This review will discuss the properties of NIR light, the NIR-functional hydrogels commonly used in current research, the cancer therapy corresponding to the materials encapsulated in them and the bioengineering technology that can assist drug delivery systems. The review provides a constructive reference for the optimization of NIR-NMHAD experimental ideas and its application to human body.

A groundbreaking photocatalytic nanomaterial, Dy2NdSbO7, was fabricated smoothly using the hydrothermal synthesis technique for the first time. Apart from that, Dy2NdSbO7/Bi2WO6 heterojunction photocatalyst (DBHP) was initially fabricated using the solvothermal fabrication technique. X-ray diffractometer, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer, Raman spectrometer, UV-visible spectrophotometer, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer, transmission electron microscope, and X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy have been applied to evaluate and investigate the thetastructure, morphology, and physicochemical properties of synthesized samples. The results confirmed that the pyrochlore-type crystal structures of Dy2NdSbO7 belonged to the Fd3m space group with the cubic crystal system and the β-pyrochlore-type crystal structures of Bi2WO6 which belonged to the Pca21 space group with orthorhombic crystal system. Under visible light exposure for 155 min (VLP-155min) using DBHP in the capacity of the photocatalytic nanomaterial, the removal efficiency of chlorpyrifos (CPS) saturation reached 100%. Comparison of CPS removal efficiency after VLP-155min revealed that DBHP exhibited higher removal efficiency than Dy2NdSbO7, Bi2WO6, or N-doped TiO2 photocatalyst, with removal efficiency 1.15 times, 1.23 times, or 2.55 times higher, respectively. Furthermore, the oxidizing capability of free radicals was investigated using trapping agents. Results demonstrated that superoxide anions exhibited the strongest oxidative capability, followed by hydroxyl radicals and holes. The results presented in this study lay a robust groundwork for future investigations and advancements in the field of highly efficient heterostructure material. These findings have significant implications for the development of environmental remediation strategies and provide valuable insights into sustainable solutions for addressing CPS contamination.

An unprecedented photocatalyst, Sm2EuSbO7, was successfully fabricated in this paper, through a high-temperature solid-state calcination method, which represented its first ever synthesis. Additionally, using the solvothermal method, the Sm2EuSbO7/ZnBiSbO5 heterojunction photocatalyst (SZHP) was fabricated, marking its debut in this study. XRD analysis confirmed that both Sm2EuSbO7 and ZnBiSbO5 exhibited pyrochlore-type crystal structures with a cubic lattice, belonging to the Fd3m space group. The crystal cell parameter was determined to be 10.5682 Å or 10.2943 Å for Sm2EuSbO7 or ZnBiSbO5, respectively. The band gap width measured for Sm2EuSbO7 or ZnBiSbO5 was 2.73 eV or 2.61 eV, respectively. Under visible light irradiation for 150 min (VLTI-150 min), SZHP exhibited remarkable photocatalytic activity, achieving 100% removal of parathion methyl (PM) concentration and 99.45% removal of total organic carbon (TOC) concentration. The kinetic constant (k) for PM degradation and visible light illumination treatment was determined to be 0.0206 min−1, with a similar constant k of 0.0202 min−1 observed for TOC degradation. Remarkably, SZHP exhibited superior PM removal rates compared with Sm2EuSbO7, ZnBiSbO5, or N-doped TiO2 photocatalyst, accompanied by removal rates 1.09 times, 1.20 times, or 2.38 times higher, respectively. Furthermore, the study investigated the oxidizing capability of free radicals through the use of trapping agents. The results showed that hydroxyl radicals had the strongest oxidative capability, followed by superoxide anions and holes. These findings provide a solid scientific foundation for future research and development of efficient heterojunction compound catalysts.

Curcumin could inhibit periprosthetic osteolysis induced by wear debris and adherent endotoxin, which commonly cause prosthesis loosening and negatively influence the long-term survival of joint arthroplasty. However, its limited water solubility and poor stability pose challenges for its further clinical application. To address these issues, we developed curcumin liposomes for intraarticular injection, as liposomes possess good lubricant capacity and pharmacological synergy with curcumin. Additionally, a nanocrystal dosage form was prepared to enable comparison with the liposomes based on their ability to disperse curcumin effectively. A microfluidic method was used for its controllability, repeatability, and scalability. The Box-Behnken Design was employed to screen the formulations and flow parameters, while computational fluid dynamics was used to simulate the mixing process and predict the formation of liposomes. The optimized curcumin liposomes (Cur-LPs) had a size of 132.9 nm and an encapsulation efficiency of 97.1%, whereas the curcumin nanocrystals (Cur-NCs) had a size of 172.3 nm. Both Cur-LPs and Cur-NCs inhibited LPS-induced pro-inflammatory polarization of macrophages and reduced the expression and secretion of inflammatory factors. The mouse air pouch model further demonstrated that both dosage forms attenuated inflammatory cell infiltration and inflammatory fibrosis in subcutaneous tissues. Interestingly, the anti-inflammatory effect of Cur-LPs was more potent than that of Cur-NCs, both in vitro and in vivo, although the cellular uptake of Cur-NCs was quicker. In conclusion, the results demonstrate that Cur-LPs have great potential for the clinical treatment of inflammatory osteolysis and that the therapeutic effect is closely related to the liposomal dosage form.

Surface defect classification is one of key points in the field of steel manufacturing. It remains challenging primarily due to the rare occurrence of defect samples and the similarity between different defects. In this paper, a multi-level semantic method based on residual adversarial learning with Wasserstein divergence is proposed to realize sample augmentation and automatic classification of various defects simultaneously. Firstly, the residual module is introduced into model structure of adversarial learning to optimize the network structure and effectively improve the quality of samples generated by model. By substituting original classification layer with multiple convolution layers in the network framework, the feature extraction capability of model is further strengthened, enhancing the classification performance of model. Secondly, in order to better capture different semantic information, we design a multi-level semantic extractor to extract rich and diverse semantic features from real-world images to efficiently guide sample generation. In addition, the Wasserstein divergence is introduced into the loss function to effectively solve the problem of unstable network training. Finally, high-quality defect samples can be generated through adversarial learning, effectively expanding the limited training samples for defect classification. The experimental results substantiate that our proposed method can not only generate high-quality defect samples, but also accurately achieve the classification of defect detection samples.

Abstract The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causative agent of the COVID-19, which is a global pandemic, has infected more than 552 million people, and killed more than 6.3 million people. SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted through airborne route in addition to direct contact and droplet modes, the development of disinfectants that can be applied in working spaces without evacuating people is urgently needed. TiO2 is well known with some features of the purification, antibacterial/sterilization, making it could be developed disinfectants that can be applied in working spaces without evacuating people. Facing the severe epidemic, we expect to fully expand the application of our proposed effective approach of mechanical coating technique (MCT), which can be prepared on a large-scale fabrication of an easy-to-use TiO2/Ti photocatalyst coating, with hope to curb the epidemic. The photocatalytic inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus, and the photocatalytic degradation of acetaldehyde (C2H4O) and formaldehyde (CH2O) has been investigated. XRD and SEM results show that anatase TiO2 successfully coats on the surface of Ti coatings, while the crystal structure of anatase TiO2 can be increased during the following oxidation in air. The catalytic activity towards methylene blue of TiO2/Ti coating balls has been significantly enhanced by the followed oxidation in air, showing a very satisfying photocatalytic degradation of C2H4O and CH2O. Notably, the TiO2/Ti photocatalyst coating balls demonstrate a significant antiviral activity, with a decrease rate of virus reached 99.96% for influenza virus and 99.99% for SARS-CoV-2.

Sustainable conversion of waste plastics into valuable carbon materials for diverse applications provides a promising strategy to dispose the municipal and industrial waste plastics. However, it remains a challenge to precisely control the crosslinking reaction for transforming waste polyesters into N-doped porous carbon (NPC) with well-defined microstructures. Herein, we put forwards a strategy of stepwise crosslinking using melamine and ZnCl2/NaCl eutectic salts to convert poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) into NPC at 550 °C. We prove that firstly melamine reacts with PET degradation products to form a crosslinking structure, and subsequently ZnCl2/NaCl promote the dehydration and decarboxylation of the crosslinking structure to generate a more thermally stable crosslinking structure. The coordination of two tandem crosslinking reactions is critical to control the microstructure of NPC. Without activations, NPC shows large specific surface area of 1173 m2 g−1, abundant N dopants, and rich oxygen-containing groups. These combined features endure NPC with excellent performance in CO2 capture and solar steam generation, e.g., high CO2 adsorption capacity of 6.47 mmol g−1 and evaporation rate of 1.62 kg m−2 h−1. More importantly, NPC is compared to or prevails over previous carbon-based CO2 adsorbents or photothermal materials. This work will advance the research on “green” reutilization of low-cost polyester wastes to prepare sustainable carbon for solar energy conversion, environmental protection, etc.

A new mechanism for the generation of high intensity speckles by coupling of overlapping beams is discovered and studied in detail. Using three-dimensional simulations, the coupling of overlapping beams smoothed by phase plates and by polarization smoothing are investigated in the regime relevant to inertial confinement fusion studies. It is found that the intensity distribution of the laser beam spot can be changed by nonuniform spatial phase modulation, and the speckles formed by the phase plate can be split into smaller speckles with higher intensities, which is favorable for the generation of laser plasma instabilities. Stimulated Brillouin scattering is compared in simulations with and without coupling of the overlapping incident beams, and the results confirm the enhancement of stimulated Brillouin scattering due to this mechanism.

A simple solid phase extraction (SPE) coupled with spectrophotometric method was developed for determination of trace permanganate (MnO4−) in water. Commercial reagent polyamined-6 powder was used as SPE stationary phase to retain MnO4− which is based on the fact that MnO4− can be adsorbed on polyamide 6 (PA-6) sorbent as water samples flow through the SPE cartridge. 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) were used both as eluent solution and chromogenic agent to convert the adsorbed MnO4− into Mn2+ and generate blue oxidized product with high molar absorptivity. Quantification of MnO4− could be obtained by spectrophotometric detection of the resulting solution flow out of the SPE cartridge. The extraction and detection variables was optimized to maximize the absorbance of the TMB oxidized product. Under optimized conditions, this method provided linear dynamic ranges of 0.01–1 μmol L−1 for MnO4− with preconcentration of 100 mL water sample. The limits of detection (3Sb/m) of this method in deionized water were calculated to be 5.1 nM, and the relative standard deviations were determined to be 3.2% (C = 0.1 μmol L−1, n = 5). This method has been applied to the determination of MnO4− in spiked tap waters and satisfactory recovery was obtained.

As an advanced and revolutionary technology, additive manufacturing (AM) has received significant research attention in the field of materials processing. It is also gradually being applied to glass manufacturing owing to its significant advantages of being able to fabricate glass components with arbitrary and complex geometry. In addition, it ensures a high spatial resolution, low surface roughness (without polishing treatment), high optical transparency, and guarantees accuracy in terms of small-scale characteristics. Whilst the development of AM technology in glass manufacturing is relatively slower than in polymer, metal, and ceramics manufacturing, it has made considerable progress in the fabrication of functional glass devices, including gradient refractive index optics, microlenses, colour converters, microfluidics, and micro-toroid optical resonators. Great potential has been exhibited on multi-material, multi-scale, multi-functionality (M3), and hybrid additive manufacturing, it will definitely be the future trend on transparent glass components fabrication. This review provides a systematic summary of different AM techniques, with an emphasis on the printing strategies, resolution, multi-material capability, and property evaluation of glass. In addition, the defect formation, feasible solutions, and potentially suitable applications are discussed. An in-depth analysis of the current limitations and perspectives on the future developments of each category of AM are also provided.

To enhance the control accuracy of lane-keeping assistance systems for trucks encountering crosswind-induced lateral deviations to improve the lateral stability of the vehicle, this study proposes a control strategy based on a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) using a path-tracking preview model. First, the lateral deviation is calculated using the path-tracking preview model. Then, an observer for the vehicle’s sideslip angle is designed using a vehicle lateral tracking deviation model and a Kalman filter controller, and this is used to solve the deviation of the sideslip angle. Finally, a feedforward controller is designed based on the LQR controller and a linear two-degrees-of-freedom vehicle model to eliminate steady-state errors arising from LQR optimization, thereby obtaining the steering angle of the vehicle when subjected to crosswind conditions. Comparing the test results of the sideslip angle, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration demonstrates that this strategy effectively improves the control accuracy of lane-keeping under crosswind conditions. The proposed method is validated through hardware-in-the-loop experiments on a test bench, yielding results consistent with simulations.

Abstract High electrical and thermal conductive metals (HETCM) play a key role in smart electronics, green energy, modern communications and healthcare, however, typical HETCM (e.g., Ag, Au, Cu) usually have relatively low mechanical strength, hindering further applications. Selective laser melting (SLM) is a potentially transformative manufacturing technology that is expected to address the issue. Ag is the metal with the highest thermal conductivity, which induces microscale grain refinement, but also leads to high internal stresses by SLM. Here, we select Ag7.5Cu alloy as an example to demonstrate that multi-scale (micro/meso/macro) synergies can take advantage of high thermal conductivity and internal stresses to effectively strengthen Ag alloy. The mimicry of metal-hardened structures (e.g., large-angle boundary) is extended to the mesoscale by controlling the laser energy density and laser scanning strategy to manipulate the macroscale internal stress intensity and mesoscale internal stress direction, respectively, to form mesoscale large-angle "grains", resulting in multiple mutual perpendicular shear bands during fracture. The presented approach achieved a significant enhancement of yield strength (+ 145%) and ductility (+ 28%) without post-treatment. The results not only break the strength-ductility trade-off of conventional SLM alloys, but also demonstrate a multi-scale synergistic enhancement strategy that exploits high thermal conductivity and internal stresses.

In order to enhance tribological performance of both water-based and oil-based lubricant, the SiO2 nanoscale ionic liquid (NIL), an amphiphilic lubricant additive, was prepared by using a sulfuric acid terminated organo-silane as corona and polyether amine as canopy. Various analytical techniques were used to characterize the SiO2 NIL and stability of the nanolubricants. A ball-on-disk tribometer was adopted to investigate the lubrication enhancement of the SiO2 NIL in both water-based and oil-based lubricants. The results show that the SiO2 NIL can reduce the coefficient of friction (COF) and wear in these two lubricant groups, especially in the water-based lubricant. The lubrication mechanisms are ascribed to the polishing, ball bearing and mending effects of the SiO2 NIL.

The existing estimators for the drift coefficient in the diffusion model with jumps involve jump components and possess larger boundary error. How to effectively estimate the drift function is an important issue that faces challenges and has theoretical significance. In this paper, the gamma asymmetric kernel for boundary correction and threshold function eliminating jump impacts are combined to estimate the unknown drift coefficient in the jump diffusion process of interest rate. The asymptotic large sample property and the better finite sample property through the Monte Carlo numerical simulation experiment and the empirical analysis of SHIBOR and LIBOR for the corresponding estimator are considered in detail. It is found that the estimator proposed in this paper can correct the estimation error near or far away from the origin point, which provides a more asymptotic unbiased estimator for the drift function in diffusion models with jumps.

Abstract Objectives Diabetes has been strongly associated with periodontal diseases. The periodontal ligament (PDL) has an abundant extracellular matrix (ECM). Lysyl oxidases (LOXs) are closely associated with various diseases caused by abnormal ECM functions, however, the role of LOXs in periodontal diseases induced by diabetes remains unclear. Methodology In this study, 8-week-old Zucker diabetic fatty rats were used to establish a type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) model. After 9 and 16 weeks, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), Masson’s trichrome, and immunohistochemical staining were performed. Results After 9 weeks, loose collagen fibers were found in the interradicular area of the diabetic group, in opposition to the control group. There were no significant differences in LOX expression between the diabetic and control groups (p>0.05). BackgroundOsteosarcoma is a common metastatic tumor in children and adolescents. Because of its easy metastasis, patients often show a poor prognosis. Recently, researchers have found that platelets are closely related to metastasis of a variety of malignant tumors, but the role of platelets related characteristics in osteosarcoma is still unknown. The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of platelet-related subtypes and cell infiltration in tumor microenvironment.MethodsWe collected osteosarcoma cohorts from TCGA and GEO databases, and explored the molecular subtypes mediated by platelet-related genes and the related TME cell infiltration according to the expression of platelet-related genes in osteosarcoma. In addition, we also explored the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) among different molecular subtypes and established a protein-protein interaction network (PPI). Then we constructed a platelet scoring model by Univariate cox regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) cox regression model to quantify the characteristics of platelet in a single tumor. RT-PCR was used to investigate the expression of six candidate genes in osteosarcoma cell lines and normal osteoblast lines. Finally, we also predicted potential drugs with therapeutic effects on platelet-related subtypes.ResultsWe found that platelet-related genes (PRGs) can distinguish osteosarcoma into two different platelet-related subtypes, C1 and C2. And the prognosis of the C2 subtype was significantly worse than that of C1 subtype. The results of ESTIMATE analysis and GO/KEGG enrichment showed that the differences between different subtypes were mainly concentrated in immune response pathways, and the immune response of C2 was inhibited relative to C1. We further studied the relationship between platelet-related subtypes and immune cell infiltration. We found that the distribution of most immune cells in C1 subtype was higher than that in C2 subtype, and there was a correlation between C1 subtype and more immune cells. Finally, we screened the PRGs related to the prognosis of osteosarcoma through Univariate Cox regression, established independent prognostic platelet characteristics consisting of six genes to predict the prognosis of patients with OS, and predicted the drugs that may be used in the treatment of osteosarcoma. RT-PCR was used to verify the expression of candidate genes in osteosarcoma cells.ConclusionPlatelet scoring model is a significant biomarker, which is of great significance to determine the prognosis, molecular subtypes, characteristics of TME cell infiltration and therapy in patients with OS.

Metabolic reprogramming is of great significance in the progression of various cancers and is critical for cancer progression, diagnosis, and treatment. Cellular metabolic pathways mainly include glycolysis, fat metabolism, glutamine decomposition, and oxidative phosphorylation. In cancer cells, reprogramming metabolic pathways is used to meet the massive energy requirement for tumorigenesis and development. Metabolisms are also altered in malignant osteosarcoma (OS) cells. Among reprogrammed metabolisms, alterations in aerobic glycolysis are key to the massive biosynthesis and energy demands of OS cells to sustain their growth and metastasis. Numerous studies have demonstrated that compared to normal cells, glycolysis in OS cells under aerobic conditions is substantially enhanced to promote malignant behaviors such as proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance of OS. Glycolysis in OS is closely related to various oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, and numerous signaling pathways have been reported to be involved in the regulation of glycolysis. In recent years, a vast number of inhibitors and natural products have been discovered to inhibit OS progression by targeting glycolysis-related proteins. These potential inhibitors and natural products may be ideal candidates for the treatment of osteosarcoma following hundreds of preclinical and clinical trials. In this article, we explore key pathways, glycolysis enzymes, non-coding RNAs, inhibitors, and natural products regulating aerobic glycolysis in OS cells to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between glycolysis and the progression of OS and discover novel therapeutic approaches targeting glycolytic metabolism in OS.

Abstract Background Various studies investigating the clinical significance of FBXW7 mutation and/or expression have yielded inconclusive results in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Therefore, the present meta-analysis summarizes previous evidence and evaluates the clinical significance, including the prognostic role, of FBXW7 status in CRCs. Methods The meta-analysis was conducted by searching the databases of PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WANFANG data, Web of Science, Embase, and Web of Science. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to assess the relationships between FBXW7 status and clinicopathological features and survival in CRC, respectively. Results Ten studies involving 4199 patients met the inclusion criteria and included in our meta-analysis. TRIM29 is dysregulated in pancreatic cancer and implicated in maintenance of stem-cell-like characters of pancreatic cancer cells. However, the exact mechanisms underlying oncogenic function of TRIM29 in pancreatic cancer cells remain largely unclarified. Using a global screening procedure, the current study found that adenylate kinase 4 (AK4) was profoundly reduced by TRIM29 knockdown. In addition, our data demonstrated that TRIM29 knockdown altered bioenergetics and suppressed proliferation and invasion of pancreatic cancer cells via downregulation of AK4 at the posttranscriptional level. The current study demonstrated that upregulation of microRNA-2355-3p (miR-2355-3p) upregulated AK4 expression via facilitating DDX3X recruitment to the AK4 transcript, and TRIM29 knockdown thereby destabilized the AK4 transcript via miR-2355-3p downregulation. Collectively, our study uncovers posttranscriptional stabilization of the AK4 transcript by miR-2355-3p interaction to facilitate DDX3X recruitment. Regulation of AK4 by TRIM29 via miR-2355-3p thereby provides additional information for further identification of attractive targets for therapy with pancreatic cancer.
