Ecological networks are an effective strategy to maintain regional ecological security. However, current research on ecological network construction in areas with large-scale resource extraction is limited. Moreover, classic ecological network construction methods do not perform satisfactorily when implemented in heavily damaged mining landscapes. Taking the example of Liaoning Province, China, a framework for stepwise renewal of ecological networks was proposed, which integrates basic ecological sources and other sources that include mining areas. The framework was based on multi-source ecological environment monitoring data, and all potential ecological sources were extracted and screened using an MSPA model and the area threshold method. Further, ecological sources were classified into two types and three levels based on the influence of abandoned mines and the characteristics of ecosystem services in the ecological sources. Ecological corridors were extracted using the MCR model. An ecological corridor optimization process based on combining the gravity model with addition and removal rules of corridors was proposed. The results indicated that the basic ecological network in Liaoning Province included 101 ecological sources and 162 ecological corridors, and the supplementary ecological network included 28 ecological sources and 67 ecological corridors. The ecological sources were divided into two types, and corridors were divided into three types. The basic ecological network exhibited a spatial distribution of discrete connections in the west and close connections in the east. Changes in ecological network topological indicators indicated that a supplementary ecological network strengthened the structural performance of the regional ecological network, expanding spatial coverage, filling hollow areas, and enriching local details of the regional ecological network. Regulation strategies were proposed for ecological sources with different connection modes. The number of ecological sources implementing restrictive development, pattern optimization, and protective development were 101, 12, and 16, respectively. This paper provides a constructing framework of ecological networks adapted for resource-based regions. Knowing the spatial structure of traditional villages is required to promote and preserve these villages. These traditional villages are an essential part of China's farming legacy and hold substantial historical and cultural significance. Therefore, this article analyzed 30 nationally recognized traditional villages in Liaoning Province, selected from the 6819 traditional villages in the province, as samples. These were divided into three types based on elevation: plain-type (below 200 m above sea level), hilly-type (200–500 m), and mountain-type (above 500 m) villages. Two villages of each type were selected for a total of six villages as the study objects; for these, quantitative comparative research on the spatial structure of these villages was carried out. The results of the study show that: (1) plain-type traditional villages are little affected by the terrain, the overall presentation of the surface space, the village traffic is well developed, able to form a commercial street as the core of the road interruptions in the head of the road more; (2) hilly-type traditional villages are influenced by mountains and water systems, forming a linear space with main roads as the core and crossroads, their core areas are more remote and lack space for public activities, and the villages rely on religious venues or the former residences of celebrities to attract tourists; (3) mountain-type villages are greatly influenced by the mountains, making it difficult to form a commercial area, the distribution of each natural town is relatively scattered and forms a point-like space, each point is developed with public space as the core, and there is a lack of characteristics within the village. The above quantitative characteristics are compared and three targeted conservation strategies for national-level traditional villages in Liaoning are proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Coastal erosion is widely distributed globally, with sandy coasts being particularly prominent, causing significant economic losses to coastal areas. This study focuses on the coastal areas of Liaoning Province, China, which represent typical sandy beach erosion. Methods: Based on the assessment of coastal erosion disaster losses, a multivariate variable-weight combination prediction model is utilized to predict the losses caused by coastal erosion disasters, providing an effective mathematical modeling approach for predicting such losses. Furthermore, the cluster analysis method is employed to delineate vulnerability risk zones for coastal erosion along the Liaoning Province coast. Results and discussion: The research findings indicate the following: (1) From 2023 to 2025, the losses due to coastal erosion disasters in Liaoning Province are projected to decrease significantly froma scale of 36 million RMB yuan to 5million RMB yuan; (2) Based on themagnitude of disaster vulnerability risk, the coastal areas of Liaoning Province are categorized into four risk zones: high-risk zones (Jinzhou District), moderately high-risk zones (Zhuanghe City, Wafangdian City, Ganjingzi District), medium-risk zones (Lvshunkou District, Bayuquan), and low-risk zones (Gaizhou City, Suizhong County, Xingcheng City). Recommendations are proposed accordingly: (1) Effective measures should be implemented to mitigate the losses incurred by coastal erosion on land, buildings, infrastructure, agricultural output; (2) In the selection of disaster prevention and control measures, economic factors should be carefully considered in line with the specific circumstances of the losses. Specifically, the economic efficiency of disaster prevention andmitigationmeasures should be taken into account; (3) Precise efforts should be made to implement coastal erosion disaster prevention and control measures in different regions. To effectively address climate change, it is necessary to quantify the carbon emissions in high energy-consuming regions, analyze driving factors, and explore effective pathways for achieving green development. Therefore, this paper takes Liaoning Province as research area, using extended Kaya identity and LMDI method to analyze the driving factors of carbon emissions from energy consumption in five major industries and the residential consumption sector from 2011 to 2020 in Liaoning Province. Furthermore, this paper uses the Tapio model to explore the decoupling relationship between carbon emissions and economic development. The results show that: 1) From 2011 to 2020, total carbon emissions from energy consumption in five major industries showed a trend of initially declining and then rising, while carbon emissions from the residential consumption sector exhibited an upward trend. 2) For carbon emissions from the industrial sector, economic output and industrial structure are the primary factors that promote and inhibit carbon emissions respectively. The inhibitory effects of energy structure and energy intensity are not significant. Population scale has a certain promoting effect on carbon emissions. For residential energy consumption carbon emissions, Household consumption expenditure, residential energy structure, and residential population scale are driving factors that promote the growth of carbon emissions, while residential energy intensity restrains the growth of carbon emissions. 3) From 2011 to 2018, carbon emissions from the industrial sector have been decoupled from economic output, and the decoupling state is dominated by weak decoupling. However, carbon emissions are once again correlated with economic development in 2019-2020. Extreme climates can result in marked damage to crop yields and threaten regional and global food security. Maize is a major grain crop in Liaoning Province which is severely affected by dry and hot weather events. This study was based on the maize yield and daily meteorological data from various meteorological stations in Liaoning Province from 2000 to 2020. We calculated the standardized dry and hot index and constructed a method for estimating the maize yield reduction risk under compound dry–hot events (CDHE) in Liaoning Province by combining the coefficient of variation in maize yield reduction, yield loss risk index, and the frequency of CDHE during yield reduction. The results showed that the high-risk area for the occurrence of CDHE in maize was Chaoyang City, located in the western part of Liaoning Province. Cities in the low-risk area accounted for approximately 64.3% of the total number of cities in Liaoning Province, mainly in the central and northern parts of Liaoning Province. This study emphasizes the impact of CDHE on agricultural production and provides an index for assessing the risk of CDHE on maize production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper utilizes data on the records of damage to expressways and main roads caused by precipitation in Liaoning Province from 2017 to 2021. It analyzes the temporal and spatial characteristics of damage accidents, calculates the effective rainfall before the occurrence of accidents, and establishes a probability fitting model for road water damage. The results show that precipitation-induced road damage events in Liaoning Province generally occur from May to October, with a peak in July and August. The occurrence of road water damage follows a pattern of gradually delaying from northwest to southeast, and the number of accidents is highly correlated with precipitation. The eastern and western parts of Liaoning are high-incidence areas, with Dandong, Chaoyang, Huludao, and Benxi being the high-incidence areas within the province. Among various methods compared, the fitting effect of the road water damage probability conforms to the Gaussian distribution probability density function. The critical rainfall threshold for disaster in the eastern and southern parts of Liaoning is higher than that in the central and northern parts. Under the same effective rainfall conditions, the risk of road water damage in plain areas is higher than in mountainous and hilly areas. The road water damage situation during a flooding process in Liaoning in 2022 is used for verification, indicating a strong role in flood control guidance.

Since the first discovery of dinosaur eggs announced by the American Museum of Natural History (central Asiatic expeditions to Mongolia) in 1923, these fossils became widely recognised from Mesozoic strata in Asia and elsewhere. In the 1920s, and actually before 1923, dinosaur eggs had been collected from another part of Asia, specifically Liaoning Province in northeastern China. From 1921 to the late 1920s, five eggs were collected from the Cenomanian Quantou Formation during construction, and thus represent an important historic collection as some of the earliest dinosaur eggs discovered in Asia. Here, we describe one egg from this collection and assign it to Paraspheroolithus irenensis, an egg taxon that likely belonged to hadrosaur dinosaurs. The egg is approximately 7 × 8 cm in diameter, with eggshell that displays typical spheroolithid microstructure and is just over a millimetre in thickness. Paraspheroolithus irenensis is shown to be the most widespread spheroolithid oospecies in China, and our comparative work extends its geographic range to northeastern most China. The Quantou Formation thus has yielded at least three spheroolithid oospecies, indicating the potential for a diversity of hadrosaur or related ornithopod species in the region at that time. Our objective was to investigate the status and influence of myopia among primary school students in Fushun, Liaoning Province, China. We aimed to provide a theoretical and epistemological basis for implementing myopia prevention initiatives. We employed cluster sampling and surveyed 5216 primary school students from grades 1–6 across eight primary schools in Fushun City. Our participants included 2606 males and 2610 females whose average age was 9.25 (SD = 1.76) years. The rate of myopia among these primary school students was 29.54%, with statistically significant differences among students of different genders and grades. Logistic regression analysis further identified several possible protective factors, including appropriate reading distance, adequate home lighting, regular breaks between classes, conscientious eye exercises, and daily outdoor physical activity. Conversely, the associated risk factors were being female, being in a higher grade level, spending more than 4 hours on homework, occasionally reading while lying down, and having one or both parents with myopia. Overall, our results indicated a high incidence of myopia, highlighting the need for scientifically controlled interventions to manage and mitigate the occurrence and progression of myopia in this population. As a kind of natural disasters, geological hazards pose serious threats to the ecological security and socio-economic development of human society. Evaluating the sensitivity of regional geological hazards is essential for making disaster-preventing/mitigating strategies and land use plans. Based on multisource remote sensing data, this study evaluates the geological hazard sensitivity in Liaoning Province by using the method of spatial principal component analysis and spatial autocorrelation finding that such sensitivity is generally moderate, with an average value of 5.25, and is mainly concentrated in three levels: Mild sensitivity, moderate sensitivity and insensitivity, accounting for more than 67% of the total area. Liaodong Mountain Area and Liaoxi Hilly Area are found with the highest sensitivity of geological hazards, showcasing obvious spatial differences and aggregations, mainly because these areas have large terrain fluctuations, poor stability of rock and soil bodies, and strong erosion by precipitation. The main factors affecting the sensitivity of geological hazards include land use mode, elevation, slope, and lithology. Among them, the land use mode has the highest contribution rate to the first principal component, reaching 0.86. This study provides a theoretical reference for the prevention and control over geological hazards and the protection of ecological security in Liaoning Province.

In this study, the effects of the soil application and foliar spraying with magnesium fertilizers on rice yield and quality in Liaoning Province were investigated. Field experiments were conducted at Kaiyuan, Xinmin, and Dawa in 2022 and 2023. Magnesium fertilizers were used in the soil as magnesium sulfate monohydrate and silicon–magnesium fertilizer and on leaves was magnesium sulfate heptahydrate. The results showed that the application of 12 kg magnesium hm−2 in the soil at the Kaiyuan site can significantly increase rice yield by 14.8% compared with sites without magnesium fertilizer. The use of silicon–magnesium fertilizer showed a more obvious yield increase of 22.2%. The application of 3 kg magnesium hm−2 or 6 kg magnesium hm−2 on the leaf surface increased the rice yield at Kaiyuan by 19.4% and 21.6% and at Xinmin by 17.8% and 5.4%, respectively. The yield increase was more significant under the optimal fertilization treatment compared with the conventional fertilization treatment. The application of magnesium fertilizer increased the magnesium, nitrogen, and phosphorus contents in rice shoots and the potassium and crude protein contents in rice grains. The effect of foliar spraying with magnesium fertilizers was more obvious than soil application. Therefore, the magnesium fertilizer used on the leaf surface plays an important role in improving rice yield and quality in rice-growing areas with relatively rich soil magnesium content. Magnesium fertilizer can compensate for the yield decrease caused by the reduced use of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers by promoting nitrogen and phosphorus absorption in rice. Conclusively, the application of magnesium fertilizer is a promising measure to improve rice production in Liaoning province under a reduced nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer background. Excessive pesticide application in greenhouses leads to elevated levels of pesticide residues, especially in cold seasons, thereby posing a potential dietary exposure risk to the residents' health. This study aimed to investigate 65 pesticides in 469 leafy vegetable samples collected from greenhouses in Liaoning province between October 2018 and May 2020. Overall, the pesticide levels in 96.4% (452/469) of the samples were below the MRLs established by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The detection rate of 65 pesticides ranged from 0.2% to 11.9%. Multiple pesticide contamination was common, with dimethomorph being the most recurrent contaminant. The dietary risk assessment study revealed obvious differences in chronic and acute exposure risk values. The chronic risk quotients (RQcs) for leafy vegetable samples were 0.001%–3.993%, indicating an acceptable public health risk for the residents. As two leafy vegetables highly consumed in cold seasons in northeast China, the acute risk quotients (RQas) of Chinese cabbage samples were significantly lower than 100%; however, pakchoi samples exhibited RQa values ranging from 0.159% to 580.529%, showing an unacceptable acute dietary risk. This highlights that, compared to the chronic dietary risks, the potential acute dietary risks induced by the pesticides are higher in greenhouse-grown leafy vegetables during cold seasons. To study the environmental changes and evolution rule of coastal zones in Dalian City in the last 40 years, the paper uses GIS technology to extract and analyze the coastline information during 1984-2018 based on the historical images from Google Earth. The results show that the coastline has grown in three stages: low-high-low, separated by the years of 2004 and 2014. The growth rate of sea reclamation is highly correlated to the GDP growth curve. Spatially, the coastline changes are mainly distributed in the bay and estuary areas, with the main types of land reclamation and sea mariculture. The land reclamation area is mainly concentrated in the central and southern coast of municipal district and Changxing Island Development Zone, while the sea reclamation area is scattered in Wafangdian, Pulandian and Zhuanghe areas in the north and east. The uncertainty and unknowability of emerging infectious diseases have caused many major public health and security incidents in recent years. As a new tick‐borne disease, Dabieshan tick virus (DBTV) necessitate systematic epidemiological and spatial distribution analysis. In this study, tick samples from Liaoning Province were collected and used to evaluate distribution of DBTV in ticks. Outbreak points of DBTV and the records of the vector Haemaphysalis longicornis in China were collected and used to establish a prediction model using niche model combined with environmental factors. We found that H. longicornis and DBTV were widely distributed in Liaoning Province. The risk analysis results showed that the DBTV in the eastern provinces of China has a high risk, and the risk is greatly influenced by elevation, land cover, and meteorological factors. The risk geographical area predicted by the model is significantly larger than the detected positive areas, indicating that the etiological survey is seriously insufficient. This study provided molecular and important epidemiological evidence for etiological ecology of DBTV. Abstract The Hui people are the second-largest ethnic minority in China, and they are distributed throughout the country. A previous study explored the paternal genetic structure of the Hui population in nine different regions of China, but it overlooked the Liaoning province. In this study, we examined the paternal genetic makeup and forensic traits of the Hui population in Liaoning province by analyzing 157 Y-chromosome single nucleotide polymorphisms (Y-SNPs) and 26 short tandem repeats (Y-STRs). We successfully genotyped 282 unrelated male individuals from the Hui population of Liaoning province using the SNaPshot® single base extension assay and Goldeneye™ Y26 system kit (PEOPLESPOT R&D, Beijing, China). The results revealed high haplotypic diversity (0.9998) and identified 46 terminal haplogroups for the Hui population. Additional analyses, such as heat maps, principal component analysis (PCA), genetic distance (FST), Multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis, and median-joining network (MJ) analysis, showed that the Hui population could be classified into three groups: Northwest Hui populations (NWH), including Liaoning, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, and Henan; Hui populations from Sichuan and Shandong (SSH); and Yunnan Hui populations (YNH). Pairwise genetic distance (Rst) comparisons with other Chinese populations revealed that the Hui population displayed genetic affinity with the Han population. The comprehensive understanding of the Hui population in Liaoning province, explored by Y-SNPs and Y-STRs, can be utilized to interpret their genetic structure and enhance the accuracy of forensic databases.

Based on the Landsat satellite images and social statistical data in 2000 and 2020, this paper quantitatively analyzed the temporal and spatial evolution and comparative advantages of the “production-living-ecological” functions in Liaoning Province by using land transfer matrix, functional values and comparative advantages of the “production-living-ecological” functions, and put forward some policy suggestions. The results show that: the land use of Liaoning Province is mainly woodland, agriculture, rural area and water area, accounting for 42.83%, 41.00%, 5.21% and 3.42% of the total area. The production function is high in the middle and low in the east and west, and the production function value ranges from 0.01 to 0.21. The living function is distributed from east to west, and the living function value is decreased from the plain to the surrounding mountains. There is a significant correlation between ecological function and landform, with ecological function values ranging from 0.01 to 0.65. The central Liaoning Plain and Dalian have comparative advantages in production function. The central Liaoning Plain and Dalian have comparative advantages in living function, and the eastern and western Liaoning have comparative advantages in ecological function. It is suggested to design a policy framework for coordinating the functions of “production-living-ecological”, and improve the mechanism of ecological and environmental protection. In order to study the spatial-temporal variation in the carrying capacity of water resources in Liaoning Province, 14 cities in Liaoning are used as research units based on the TOPSIS model (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution). Firstly, the evaluation index system is constructed, and the subjective and objective assignment method combining the AHP method (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and entropy method are adopted to assign weights to the evaluation indexes. Again, the TOPSIS model is combined with GIS (Geographic Information System) to present the results. Finally, through the analysis of the research results, the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are put forward. It is found that the T value of TOPSIS model closeness in Dalian and Yingkou is the closest to 0.2, which indicates that the carrying capacity is of high quality. The average T value of Fuxin is only 0.0949. The area of high-quality water resources carrying capacity in Liaoning has expanded from 8281 to 12 650 km2. The area of low level has expanded from 31 743 to 57 453 km2. The alarm area has expanded slightly. Intermediate area and good area has a certain reduction. The research results can provide a reference for the study of water resource, and lay a foundation for the work of economic development and environmental protection in Liaoning Province. The results revealed high haplotypic diversity (0.9998) and identified 46 terminal haplogroups for the Hui population. Additional analyses, such as heat maps, principal component analysis (PCA), genetic distance (FST), Multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis, and median-joining network (MJ) analysis, showed that the Hui population could be classified into three groups: Northwest Hui populations (NWH), including Liaoning, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, and Henan; Hui populations from Sichuan and Shandong (SSH); and Yunnan Hui populations (YNH). Pairwise genetic distance (Rst) comparisons with other Chinese populations revealed that the Hui population displayed genetic affinity with the Han population. The comprehensive understanding of the Hui population in Liaoning province, explored by Y-SNPs and Y-STRs, can be utilized to interpret their genetic structure and enhance the accuracy of forensic databases. Ecological risk assessment plays an important role in ecosystem management and conservation. Conventional landscape-level assessment can only estimate the ecological risk level. It does not define ecological risk types, resulting in a lack of targeted regulation methods. This study establishes a model for identifying ecological risk-related "source-sink" landscape functions according to (1) "source-sink" landscape theory, (2) the responses of landscape types to ecological risks, and (3) the key influences on ecological risk. Four ecological risk "source-sink" landscape functions were mapped as a grid to understand their distribution. Natural and human activity factors were analyzed to determine their effects. After comprehensively considering the ecological risk levels, types of ecological risk, "source-sink" landscape functions, and their influencing factors, six principles and twenty-four targeted regulation strategies were proposed. Take the Liaoning province, China, as an example. The results prove that more than 80% of the grids were affected by the ecological risk "sink" landscape function for different and multiple ecological risks in the study area. Landscapes with the "source" function were mainly located in central cities and coastal areas. About 65% of the grids with "sink" landscape functions had medium, moderate-high, and high ecological risks. More than 75% of the grids with "source" landscape functions had medium, moderate-low, and low ecological risks. Local terrain features, vegetation, and climate were closely related to the "source" or "sink" landscape function of a grid. The land use type converted to artificial surface had the highest driving effects (q value) on multiple ecological risk "source-sink" landscape functions, and had a significant difference between other factors. The driving effects of land use type converted to artificial surface and road network density gradually increased with the risk level. The influences of GDP and population density gradually weakened with the level. The influence of interaction between any two factors was stronger than the influence of a single factor on ecological risk. The proposed assessment model can help to identify specific ecological risk at the grid level, and combined with the regulation strategy, the scientific basis can be provided for the regulation and management of different ecological risks. Studying the spatiotemporal distribution pattern of carbon storage, balancing land development and utilization with ecological protection, and promoting urban low-carbon sustainable development are important topics under China's "dual carbon strategy" (Carbon emissions stabilize and harmonize with natural carbon absorption). However, existing research has paid little attention to the impact of land use changes under different spatial policies on the provincial-scale ecosystem carbon storage. In this study, we established a carbon density database for Liaoning Province and obtained the spatial and temporal distribution of carbon storage over the past 20 years. Then, based on 16 driving factors and multiple spatial policies in Liaoning Province, we predicted land use and land cover changes (LUCC) under three scenarios for 2050 and analyzed the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics and response mechanisms of carbon storage under different scenarios. The results showed that (1) LUCC directly affected carbon storage, with a 35.61% increase in construction land and a decrease in carbon storage of 0.51 Tg over the 20-year period. (2) From 2020 to 2050, the carbon storage varied significantly among the natural trend scenario (NTS), ecological restoration scenario (ERS), and economic priority scenario (EPS), with values of 2112.05 Tg, 2164.40 Tg, and 2105.90 Tg, respectively. Carbon storage in the ecological restoration scenario exhibited positive growth, mainly due to a substantial increase in forest area. (3) The spatial pattern of carbon storage in Liaoning Province was characterized by "low in the center, high in the east, and balanced in the west". Therefore, Liaoning Province can consider rationally formulating and strictly implementing the spatial policy of ecological protection in the future land planning so as to control the disorderly growth of construction land, realize the growth of ecological land area, effectively enhance carbon storage, and ensure the realization of the goal of "dual carbon strategy". As a major agricultural province, understanding the spatial distribution characteristics of non-point source pollution in Liaoning Province plays a crucial role in preventing and controlling non-point source pollution. This paper uses the pollution discharge coefficient method to calculate the TN and TP load of non-point source pollution in each city of Liaoning Province in 2019. The results indicate that: (1) In 2019, the emissions of TN and TP from non-point source pollution in Liaoning Province were 245.6 thousand t and 23.2 thousand t, respectively. Livestock and poultry farming is the main source of TN and TP pollution. (2) The total amount of standard pollution load was 361.269 billion m3. TN is the main source of non-point source pollution, with TN and TP accounting for 67.96% and 32.04%, respectively. Overall, pollution in the central and western regions is more serious than in the eastern regions, while pollution in the plain areas is worse than in the mountainous and hilly areas. Chaoyang should be a key focus in terms of the prevention and control of non-point source pollution, and the abundant total water resources play a crucial role in reducing pollution levels. Farmland transfer (FT) is the key to achieving moderate agricultural scale management in China. Clarifying the spatial pattern of FT is important to improve FT strategies. In this study, the multinomial logit model was used to reveal the spatial pattern of FT in Liaoning Province, Northeast China. On this basis, the reasons for its formation were discussed, and suggestions were proposed. According to the statistical results, 39.7% of the sample peasant households participated in FT. Most of them live far from the regional core area. Regression analysis shows that the FT in Liaoning Province has a significant "core-periphery" spatial pattern. As the spatial distance between the residence and the regional core area (SDRRC) increases, the probability of FT rises for peasant households. Specifically, the odds ratios of farmland transfer out and farmland transfer in rise by 0.9% and 0.6% on average, respectively, for each 1 km increase in SDRRC. Widespread concurrent business and the increase in FT fees due to imperfect urbanization are the main reasons for the formation of the spatial pattern. We suggest that the promotion of FT requires high-quality urbanization in central cities, accelerating urbanization in medium and small cities and counties, implementing differentiated FT subsidy standards, and promoting new agricultural scale management models. In this study, the effects of the soil application and foliar spraying with magnesium fertilizers on rice yield and quality in Liaoning Province were investigated. Field experiments were conducted at Kaiyuan, Xinmin, and Dawa in 2022 and 2023. Magnesium fertilizers were used in the soil as magnesium sulfate monohydrate and silicon–magnesium fertilizer and on leaves was magnesium sulfate heptahydrate. The results showed that the application of 12 kg magnesium hm−2 in the soil at the Kaiyuan site can significantly increase rice yield by 14.8% compared with sites without magnesium fertilizer. The use of silicon–magnesium fertilizer showed a more obvious yield increase of 22.2%. The application of 3 kg magnesium hm−2 or 6 kg magnesium hm−2 on the leaf surface increased the rice yield at Kaiyuan by 19.4% and 21.6% and at Xinmin by 17.8% and 5.4%, respectively. The yield increase was more significant under the optimal fertilization treatment compared with the conventional fertilization treatment. The application of magnesium fertilizer increased the magnesium, nitrogen, and phosphorus contents in rice shoots and the potassium and crude protein contents in rice grains. The effect of foliar spraying with magnesium fertilizers was more obvious than soil application. Therefore, the magnesium fertilizer used on the leaf surface plays an important role in improving rice yield and quality in rice-growing areas with relatively rich soil magnesium content. Magnesium fertilizer can compensate for the yield decrease caused by the reduced use of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers by promoting nitrogen and phosphorus absorption in rice. Conclusively, the application of magnesium fertilizer is a promising measure to improve rice production in Liaoning province under a reduced nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer background.

Excessive pesticide application in greenhouses leads to elevated levels of pesticide residues, especially in cold seasons, thereby posing a potential dietary exposure risk to the residents’ health. This study aimed to investigate 65 pesticides in 469 leafy vegetable samples collected from greenhouses in Liaoning province between October 2018 and May 2020. Overall, the pesticide levels in 96.4% (452/469) of the samples were below the MRLs established by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The detection rate of 65 pesticides ranged from 0.2% to 11.9%. Multiple pesticide contamination was common, with dimethomorph being the most recurrent contaminant. The dietary risk assessment study revealed obvious differences in chronic and acute exposure risk values. The chronic risk quotients (RQcs) for leafy vegetable samples were 0.001%–3.993%, indicating an acceptable public health risk for the residents. As two leafy vegetables highly consumed in cold seasons in northeast China, the acute risk quotients (RQas) of Chinese cabbage samples were significantly lower than 100%; however, pakchoi samples exhibited RQa values ranging from 0.159% to 580.529%, showing an unacceptable acute dietary risk. This highlights that, compared to the chronic dietary risks, the potential acute dietary risks induced by the pesticides are higher in greenhouse-grown leafy vegetables during cold seasons.

Ticks play a significant role in transmitting arboviruses, which pose a risk to human and animal health. The region of Liaoning Province, China, with abundant plant resources with multiple tick populations, has reported several tick-borne diseases. However, there remains a scarcity of research on the composition and evolution of the tick virome. In this study, we conducted the metagenomic analysis of 561 ticks in the border area of Liaoning Province in China and identified viruses related to known diseases in humans and animals, including severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) and nairobi sheep disease virus (NSDV). Moreover, the groups of tick viruses were also closely related to the families of Flaviviridae, Parvoviridae, Phenuiviridae, and Rhabdoviridae. Notably, the Dabieshan tick virus (DBTV) of the family Phenuiviridae was prevalent in these ticks, with the minimum infection rate (MIR) of 9.09%, higher than previously reported in numerous provinces in China. In addition, sequences of tick-borne viruses of the family Rhabdoviridae have first been reported from the border area of Liaoning Province, China, after being described from Hubei Province, China. This research furthered the insight into pathogens carried by ticks in the northeastern border areas of China, offering epidemiological information for possible forthcoming outbreaks of infectious diseases. Meanwhile, we provided an essential reference for assessing the risk of tick bite infection in humans and animals, as well as for exploring into the evolution of the virus and the mechanisms of species transmission. Background. The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) keeps rising while the eradication rate continues to decline due to the increasing antibiotic resistance. Regional variations of antimicrobial resistance to H. pylori have been recommended by guidelines in recent years. This study aims to investigate the antibiotic resistance rate of H. pylori and its association with infected subjects' characteristics in Liaoning Province, an area in north China. Methods. Gastric tissues from 178 H. pylori positive participants without previous antibiotic use within four weeks were collected for H. pylori culture. Antibiotic susceptibility to furazolidone (AOZ), tetracycline (TC), levofloxacin (LFX), metronidazole (MET), clarithromycin (CLA), and amoxicillin (AMX) were examined with the agar dilution method. Associations between H. pylori resistance and patient characteristics were further analysed. Results. No resistance was observed in AOZ or TC. For LFX, MET, CLA, and AMX, the overall resistance rates were 41.10%, 79.14%, 71.78%, and 22.09% respectively. There were significant differences between resistance to CLA and MALToma (P = 0.021), and between resistance to MET and age (P < 0.001). Conclusions. The primary resistant rates of LEX, MET, CLA, and AMX were relatively high in Liaoning. To clarify the precipitation forecast skills of climate forecast operations in the flood season in Liaoning Province of China, this study examines the forecast accuracies of China's national and provincial operational climate prediction products and the self-developed objective prediction methods and climate model products by Shenyang Regional Climate Center (SRCC) in the flood season in Liaoning. Furthermore, the forecast accuracies of the main influencing factors on the precipitation in the flood season of Liaoning are assessed. The results show that the SRCC objective methods have a relatively high accuracy. The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) sub-seasonal forecast initialized at the sub-nearest time has the best performance in June. The National Climate Center (NCC) Climate System Model sub-seasonal forecast initialized at the sub-nearest time, and the ECMWF seasonal and sub-seasonal forecasts initialized at the nearest time, perform the best in July. The NCC sub-seasonal forecast initialized at the sub-nearest time has the best performance in August. For the accuracy of the SRCC objective method, the more significant the equatorial Middle East Pacific sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly is, the higher the evaluation score of the dynamic–analogue correction method is. The more significant the North Atlantic SST tripole is, the higher the score of the hybrid downscaling method is. For the forecast accuracy of the main influencing factors of precipitation, the tropical Atlantic SST and the north–south anti-phase SST in the northwest Pacific can well predict the locations of the southern vortex and the northern vortex in early summer, respectively. The warm (clod) SST in China offshore has a good forecast performance on the weak (strong) southerly wind in midsummer in Northeast China. The accuracy of using the SST in the Nino 1+2 areas to predict the north–south location of the western Pacific subtropical high is better than that of using Kuroshio SST. The accuracy of predicting northward-moving typhoons from July to September by using the SST in the west-wind-drift area is better than using the SST in the Nino 3 area. In order to slow down the global warming trend, marine carbon sink gradually comes into people′s view, based on which the development concept of carbon sink fisheries has been proposed in China, which can directly or indirectly achieve the reduction of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. In this paper, the main species of marine aquaculture shellfish and algae in Liaoning Province (Saccharina japonica, Undaria pinnatifuda, Crassostrea gigas, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Placopecta magellanicus, Ruditapes philippinarum, Sinonovacula constricta and Scapharca subcrenata) were used as carbon sink research objects, and the capacity of marine carbon sink of shellfish and algae in Liaoning Province was quantitatively assessed based on the data related to carbon sink of marine aquaculture shellfish and algae in Liaoning Province from 2010 to 2019 in the China Fisheries Statistical Yearbook. The results showed that the total amount of carbon removed by seaweed and shellfish farming in Liaoning Province during the ten-year period was about 2, 677, 300 t, which was equivalent to the reduction of 9, 825, 700 t CO2 for Liaoning Province. It also had a certain degree of promotion for China to reach the carbon peak and carbon neutral goal.

Based on the data of existing warehouse supermarkets in Liaoning Province, China, spatial autocorrelation analysis, kernel density analysis, composite correlation coefficient analysis and other methods have been adopted to analyze their spatial-temporal evolution pattern to reflect the general law of the development of China's existing warehouse supermarkets and fill the gap in this research field. The results show that the spatial distribution of warehouse supermarkets in Liaoning Province is extremely uneven, and areas with high nuclear density are distributed along the "Shenyang-Dalian" line belonging to the aggregation distribution. The Lorentz curve shows a downward trend with a large degree of spatial imbalance, that is, the regional concentration of warehouse supermarkets is high. Through global and local autocorrelation analysis, the regions with similar development levels of warehouse supermarkets in Liaoning Province tend to gather together, and the spatial distribution has a strong correlation. The distribution of warehousing supermarkets in Liaoning Province is affected by traffic location conditions, economic conditions, population quantity and population density, the number of urban functional areas, policy conditions and the role of the government, especially by economic conditions. Scientific evaluation of urbanization quality is of great significance to measure the level of urban development and promote sustainable urban development. Based on the two dimensions of urban development and urban environmental quality, an evaluation index system of urbanization quality in Liaoning province was constructed, and methods including entropy weight, standard deviation ellipse and geographic detector were comprehensively used to explore the urbanization quality and its spatial distribution, spatial evolution trend and influencing factors in Liaoning province. The results show that, from 2005 to 2019,the overall urbanization quality index increased from 2.74 to 4.74,of which the quality of economic urbanization subsystem had the largest increase, the quality of social urbanization and environmental governance subsystem had an obvious upward trend, and the quality of environmental state and environmental pressure subsystem was relatively stable. For the spatial distribution of urbanization quality, the index ranged from 0.087 to 0.740 for Liaoning’s cities, with Shenyang as the “big core” and Dalian as the “small core” of regional agglomeration. The center of gravity ellipse of urbanization quality standard deviation fell on Liaoyang, and the deflection trajectory was along southeast-northwest-southwest from 2005 to 2019,with annual increasing distance and speed of the center of gravity ellipse of standard deviation. Among all the subsystems, economic urbanization, social urbanization and environmental management posed more influence on urbanization quality in Liaoning province; specifically, main influencing indexes included urbanization area, fixed assets investment, number of people participating in primary pension insurance, number of college students per ten thousand people, and capacity of domestic garbage removal and urban sewage treatment, which played growing influence on urbanization quality. Studying land comprehensive carrying capacity (LCCC) is the foundational and key requirement for determining land development planning and urban spatial development patterns of a region. However, the traditional evaluation method discounts the fuzziness and randomness of the evaluation index and its results. The cloud model combines randomness and fuzziness to reveal the correlation between randomness and fuzziness using numerical feature entropy and is used to represent the granularity of a qualitative concept. This study used the Liaoning Province as the study area, and developed a multi-dimensional evaluation index system for LCCC using a normal cloud model. Based on this, the relationship between the different elements of geological condition, resources and environment, economic scale and urban construction were studied using the coupling coordination degree model that reflected not only the system interactions but also the strengths of its degree of coordination. Our results were as follows: (1) numerical feature entropy were evaluated to determine the carrying capacity level of the land, and comprehensive land carrying capacity evaluations were conducted in terms of both quantitative results and the reliability of the results, promoting the scientific application of uncertainty theory in the field of comprehensive land evaluation as well as carrying capacity. (2) Liaoning Province's prefecture-level cities had distinctly different LCCC, demonstrating "low in the west and high in the east" spatial distribution characteristics. Cities with established economies and relatively strong infrastructures had larger comprehensive land carrying capacities. Overall, there was considerable consistency across the region, though the "low in the west and high in the east" spatial distribution characteristics affected the degree of coordination. The design and dynamics of a human settlement affect the health of its residents; for example, high-quality human settlements can improve the health of their residents. Accordingly, it is important to evaluate and improve the quality of human settlements, especially from a health perspective. Taking on this task, this study applied an entropy method and spatial autocorrelation analysis to evaluate the human settlement quality of 14 prefecture-level cities in Liaoning Province. The results provided the following three main insights. (1) The settlements were of ordinary quality and effective measures should be taken to improve their quality. (2) Regarding spatial characteristics, from 2009 to 2019, these settlements showed clear regional differentiation, with a low spatial distribution in the east, high spatial distribution in the west, high spatial distribution in the middle, and slightly lower spatial distribution at both ends. These characteristics reflect imbalances in the quality of the regional human settlements. (3) Regarding subsystem evolution characteristics, the quality of the settlements showed clear systematic differentiation during the evaluation period. In response to these findings, this paper proposes effective measures to improve the quality of urban human settlements and provides theoretical support for the healthy development of such settlements, including the revitalization and development of old industrial bases.
