Lithium–sulfur batteries are promising candidates for next‐generation energy storage devices due to their outstanding theoretical energy density. However, they suffer from low sulfur utilization and poor cyclability, greatly limiting their practical implementation. Herein, we adopted a phosphate‐functionalized zirconium metal–organic framework (Zr‐MOF) as a sulfur host. With their porous structure, remarkable electrochemical stability, and synthetic versatility, Zr‐MOFs present great potential in preventing soluble polysulfides from leaching. Phosphate groups were introduced to the framework post‐synthetically since they have shown a strong affinity towards lithium polysulfides and an ability to facilitate Li ion transport. The successful incorporation of phosphate in MOF‐808 was demonstrated by a series of techniques including infrared spectroscopy, solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and X‐ray pair distribution function analysis. When employed in batteries, phosphate‐functionalized Zr‐MOF (MOF‐808‐PO4) exhibits significantly enhanced sulfur utilization and ion diffusion compared to the parent framework, leading to higher capacity and rate capability. The improved capacity retention and inhibited self‐discharge rate also demonstrate effective polysulfide encapsulation utilizing MOF‐808‐PO4. Furthermore, we explored their potential towards high‐density batteries by examining the cycling performance at various sulfur loadings. A dual-signal readout has been designed detecting platform based on a cascade reaction for Escherichia coli (E. coli) detection by using colorimetric approach and a handheld pH meter. The immunoreaction was conducted using polydopamine@copper ferrite-Ag nanoparticles (PDA@CuFe2O4-Ag NP) and a glucose oxidase (GOD)–conjugated graphene oxide-gold nanosheet composite (GOD-GO/Au NS) to synthesize a sandwich complex mode between targets. Together with the formation of immune complexes, the GOD-GO/Au NS can catalyze glucose to produce gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The gluconic acid produced altered the pH of the detection solution. Since the PDA@CuFe2O4-Ag NP have good peroxidase-like activity, they can catalyze the oxidation of TMB to the blue product oxTMB once H2O2 is produced in the reaction system, and the absorbance change of oxTMB at 652 nm can be recorded using ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy. Interestingly, the PDA@CuFe2O4-Ag NP composites can consume the generated H2O2, and can create a reaction cycle that promotes glucose oxidation. Under optimal conditions, the proposed dual-channel signal platform is proportional to the logarithm of the E. coli concentration within a range of 102–107 cfu mL−1. Additionally, the devised approach was successfully used to detect E. coli at the required levels in real samples. Aim: PTEN‐induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1) and Parkin E3 ubiquitin‐protein ligase (Parkin) are critical for immune and inflammatory regulation in health and disease. PINK1 and Parkin have been confirmed to be involved in the progression of apical periodontitis by affecting mitophagy‐related osteoblast apoptosis; however, the expression of PINK1 and Parkin in macrophages, one of the most important cells in apical periodontitis, remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the expression of PINK1 and Parkin in human apical periodontitis lesions, as well as their possible localization in macrophages. Methodology: Thirty‐seven human periapical tissues, including periapical granulomas (PGs, n = 12), radicular cysts (RCs, n = 11) and healthy gingival tissues (n = 14) were examined. The inflammatory infiltrates of lesions were evaluated by haematoxylin staining, and the expression of PINK1 and Parkin was detected by immunohistochemistry. Double immunofluorescence was used to explore the colocalization of microtubule‐associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) and TOMM20, as well as the localization of PINK1 and Parkin, in macrophages of human apical periodontitis lesions. The ultrastructural morphology of mitochondria in human apical periodontitis lesions was visualized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Data were analysed by one‐way anova with Student–Newman‐Keul's test and the Mann–Whitney test. p <.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Immunohistochemistry demonstrated a significantly higher expression of PINK1 and Parkin proteins in human apical periodontitis lesions than in healthy gingival tissues (p <.0001), but no significant difference was demonstrated between PGs and RCs (p >.05). The higher expression of LC3 and the presence of more LC3‐TOMM20 double‐positive cells were also observed in human apical periodontitis. Double‐labelling analysis of PINK1, Parkin and LC3 with CD68 indicated that macrophage mitophagy might be present in the progression of human apical periodontitis. Finally, the results of TEM morphological analysis revealed the appearance of double‐membraned mitophagosomes and vacuolated mitochondria in macrophage‐like cells of apical periodontitis lesions. In this study, high internal phase Pickering emulsions (HIPPEs) were stabilized by the complexes of peanut protein isolate (PPI) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) for encapsulation β -carotene to retard its degradation during processing and storage. CNCs were prepared by H 2 SO 4 hydrolysis (HCNCs), APS oxidation (ACNCs) and TEMPO oxidation (TCNCs), exhibiting needle-like or rod-like structures with nanoscale size and uniformly distributed around the spherical PPI particle, which enhanced the emulsifying capability of PPI. Results of optical micrographs and droplet size measurement showed that Pickering emulsions stabilized by PPI/ACNCs complexes exhibited the most excellent stability after 30 days of storage, which indicated that ACNCs had the most obvious effect to improve emulsifying capability of PPI. HIPPEs encapsulated β -carotene (β c-HIPPEs) were stabilized by PPI/ACNCs complexes and showed excellent inverted storage stability. Moreover, β c-HIPPEs exhibited typical shear thinning behavior investigated by rheological properties analysis. During thermal treatment, ultraviolet radiation and oxidation, the retentions of β -carotene encapsulated in HIPPEs were improved significantly. Despite great promise as next-generation high-capacity energy storage devices, lithium–sulfur batteries still face technical challenges in long-term cyclability. With their porous structures and facile synthesis, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are tunable platforms for understanding polysulfide redox and can serve as effective sulfur hosts for lithium–sulfur batteries. This feature article describes our design strategies to tailor MOF properties such as polysulfide affinity, ionic conductivity, and porosity for promoting active material utilization and charge transport efficiency. We also present engineering approaches for implementing MOF-based sulfur cathodes for lithium–sulfur batteries with high volumetric density and under low temperature operation. Our studies provide fundamental insights into sulfur–host interactions and polysulfide electrochemistry in the presence of porous matrices, inspiring future designs of advanced batteries. Cortisol, a steroid hormone, has been confirmed as a kind of biomarker that reflects the stress response of psychobiology and related adverse health outcomes. Therefore, a sensitive and selective non-invasive assay to detect cortisol is needed. In this work, we developed a new photoelectrochemical immunosensor for determining cortisol levels in human saliva, based on evident photocurrent of the low-toxic CuInS2 quantum dots (CIS QDs) immobilized on the surface of TiO2 and significant signal amplification of the CdS/melamine network as a label. The photocurrent depended on the amount of label competing with cortisol antigen to bind the antibody on the electrode. The photocurrent decreased with the increment of cortisol concentration. Under the optimal conditions, this cortisol biosensor exhibited a broad linear range (0.01–100 ng/mL) with a low detection limit (7.8 pg/mL). Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of macular buckling and vitrectomy for myopic traction maculopathy showing macular schisis (MS) and associated macular detachment (MD) but without full‐thickness macular hole (FTMH). Design: Prospective, randomized, parallel, open‐label study. Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to either buckling or vitrectomy group. Macular buckling and intravitreal C3F8 gas injection were performed in the buckling group. Small gauge vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peeling (ILMP) and C3F8 gas tamponade were performed in the vitrectomy group. The patients were followed for 12 months. Main outcome measures: Best‐corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at 12 months. Results: A total of 85 patients were randomized, 80 eyes were included (41 receiving buckling, 39 received vitrectomy), and 78 patients completed the study. There were less eyes determined as surgical failure and required a second surgery in the buckling group than vitrectomy the group (2.4% versus 18.4%, p = 0.021). After surgery, macular buckling achieved more improvement in BCVA (+21.7 versus +4.5 Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) letters, p = 0.002). FTMH development was observed in only 1 (2.4%) eye, after removing of the implant due to recurrent conjunctival erosion, in the buckling group and 10 (26.3%) eyes (seven with‐, three without MD) in the vitrectomy group (p < 0.001). More eyes developed cataracts in the vitrectomy group than did in the buckling group (28.9% versus 7.5%, p = 0.014). Macular buckling‐associated strabismus (esotropia), binocular diplopia and implant exposure were observed in limited cases. Aiming at the detection of ultralow concentration target progesterone (Pro), a novel electrochemical aptasensor based on DNAzyme concatamers signal amplification strategy was proposed. The strategy consists of target DNA strands (TDNAs), and two different hairpin DNA molecules (H1 and H2). The signal is amplified by the large amount of DNAzyme. The TDNAs modified on the electrode open H1 structures in sequence and propagate a reaction of hybridization events between two alternating hairpins (H1and H2) to obtain abundant DNAzyme concatamers. Upon target Pro introduction, a specific Pro‐TDNAs reaction was executed, thereby resulting in the release of DNAzyme concatamers from the electrode. Subsequent differential pulse voltammetry(DPV) detection of aminoazobenzene (DAP) resulting by DNAzyme catalyze the oxidation of o‐phenylenediamine (OPD) with the aid of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Likewise, a small amount of target Pro can efficiently induce the release of a large number of the DNAzyme from the electrode in the form of DNAzyme concatamer. Under optimal conditions, the the proposed assay presents good electrochemical responses for determination of target Pro in the range of 0.5 to 15 ng/mL with the detection limit of 0.36 ng/mL. In addition, the resulting sensor can successfully distinguish Pro from coexisting interfering substance and show good stability and high repeatability. In this paper, a simple and feasible immunoassay protocol with signal amplification for sensitive determination of alpha fetoprotein (AFP, used as a model) by using new enzyme-induced Fenton reaction (EIFR) accompanying the oxidation of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) system. We discovered that glucose oxidase (GOx) has the ability to stimulate in situ Fenton reaction coupling the oxidation of OPD. GOx-catalyze of glucose results in the formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). It can catalytically oxidize Fe2+to Fe3+, meanwhile producing hydroxyl radicals (•OH). The latter effectively initiated the catalytic oxidation of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to 2,2-aminoazobenzene (DAP), resulting in the production of an electrochemical signal. On the basis of EIFR-OPD system, a new immunoassay protocol with GOx/anti-pAb2-conjugated gold nanoparticle (Ab2-AuNP-GOx) detection antibody can be designed for the detection of target AFP on capture antibody–functionalized transparent 96-well polystyrene microplate, monitored by recording the current peak of the generated DAP. The electrochemical current shows to be positively correlated with the concentration of target AFP. Under optimal conditions, the proposed assay exhibited good electrochemical responses for detecting target AFP in the range of 1.0 pg mL−1 to 100 ng mL−1 with a detection limit (LOD) of 0.5 pg mL−1 (0.5 ppt) estimated at the 3Sblank level. Additionally, the precision, reproducibility, specificity, and method accuracy were also investigated with acceptable results. MOFs formed by functionalized Zr oxide clusters and redox-active anthraquinone-based linkers are used to study charge transport in lithium sulfur batteries. Our molecular approach reveals that the Li ion content and pore structure are key parameters for enhancing conduction and improving polysulfide encapsulation during galvanostatic cycling. Despite the promises of high specific energy density and low cost, lithium sulfur (Li-S) batteries still face major challenges in long-term cyclability due to polysulfide dissolution. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have unique advantages as porous sulfur hosts due to their high chemical and structural tunability. Herein, we demonstrate that MOFs consisting of functionalized metal oxide nodes and redox-active linkers influence charge transport and enhance Li-S cycling. We show that anthraquinone-based Zr-MOF composite cathodes display higher maximum capacity and longer cycle life compared to sulfur/carbon electrodes. Lithiating the terminal ligands and bridging hydroxides in the Zr 6 (μ 3 -O) 4 (μ 3 -OH) 4 nodes further improves battery performance at high charge rates. We hypothesize that the additional redox sites within the linkers and the presence of lithiated clusters permit greater electrochemical accessibility to the polysulfides by providing additional electron and ion conduction pathways. Moreover, the pore structure plays a critical role in available conduction pathways. Purpose: MiR-361-5p has been reported to act as tumor suppressor in several types of cancers. Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common ocular tumor in childhood. The current study aimed to investigate the expression pattern and biological function of miR-361-5p in RB. Methods: Quantitative real time was utilized to determine and compare the expression of miR-361-5p in RB cells and normal retinal pigment epithelial cell line ARPE-19. CCK-8 and Edu assay were performed to assess cell proliferation. Cell apoptosis was evaluated using flow cytometry assay. Bioinformatics databases and luciferase reporter assay were applied to predict and confirm the target gene of miR-361-5p in RB cells. Results: Here, we found miR-361-5p was significantly downregulated in RB cells compared with normal retinal pigment epithelial cell line ARPE-19. MiR-361-5p overexpression significantly inhibited or silencing promoted cell proliferation in Y79 and SO-RB50 cells, respectively. Flow cytometry assay showed a significantly decreased cell apoptosis in miR-361-5p silencing Y79 cells and increased cell apoptosis in miR-361-5p overexpressing SO-RB50 cells. Moreover, miR-361-5p directly bound to the 3′ untranslated region of claudin 8 (CLDN8) and inhibited the expression of CLDN8. Furthermore, we found knockdown of CLDN8 photocopied the effect of miR-361-5p on cell proliferation and apoptosis in RB cells. Conclusion: These results indicated that overexpression of miR-361-5p might act as a suppressor in RB by targeting CLDN8 to inhibit the cellular function. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we developed a simultaneous readout of pressure and temperature dual-signals platform based on the second near-infrared (NIR II) light response-based polydopamine (PDA)-functionalized-AuPt nanoparticles (NPs)@CuS nanosheets (PDA/AuPt@CuS NS) composite. Due to the excellent NIR photothermal performance of PDA/AuPt@CuS NS, it contribute to the decomposition of H 2 O 2 and NH 4 HCO 3 to generate gases (including O 2 , CO 2 , and NH 3) can be promoted, which can amplify the pressure signals in a sealed container. A sandwich mode is formed between Fe 3 O 4 NPs and PDA/AuPt@CuS NS based on the dual-aptamer when target pathogenic bacteria is present. And, it is possible to convert the molecular recognition signals between the dual-aptamers into amplified pressures and temperatures, which can be read out by a portable pressure meter and smartphones simultaneously. It may offer the possibility for quantitative POCT analysis of Pathogenic Bacteria. Moreover, because of the high photothermal efficiency of this method, the developed dual-mode method can achieve that following the detection of bacteria and killing them immediately. As a result, secondary contamination is eliminated and bacterial transmission is avoided. The developed dual-signal sensing platform is also inexpensive, simple to operate and rapidly, indicating that it can be used for food safety analysis, clinical applications, and environmental monitoring. Distal extremity swelling with pitting edema in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a rare rheumatological condition, whose management presents a challenge. The aim of the present study was to identify the clinical characteristics of, and formulate a standardized management strategy for, patients with distal extremity swelling with pitting edema in PsA. The medical records of consecutive patients with PsA, with or without distal extremity swelling with pitting edema, were systematically analyzed over a ~10-year period (between September 2008 and September 2018) in a single center and a comprehensive review (pathogenic mechanisms, clinical manifestations, and treatments) was undertaken. A total of 167 patients with PsA were evaluated, and distal extremity swelling with pitting edema was recorded in 16 of these patients. In three of the 16 patients, distal extremity swelling with pitting edema occurred as the first, isolated manifestation of PsA. The upper and lower extremities were affected, predominantly asymmetrically. Female patients with PsA were more likely to be affected with pitting edema and the blood test results revealed that the patients with PsA and pitting edema also presented with a significantly higher erythrocyte sedimentation rate and concentration of C-reactive protein. The onset of pitting edema was associated with the activity of the disease. Lymphoscintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans revealed that edema might have resulted from inflammation of the tenosynovial structures. Furthermore, treatment with tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitor (TNFi) elicited improvements in patients with pitting edema that were not responsive to conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drug therapy. In conclusion, distal extremity swelling with pitting edema, also termed atypical remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) syndrome, may represent the initial isolated manifestation of PsA. Nanostructured Cu-based catalysts have gained much attention for electrochemical CO 2 reduction (ECR) to value-added alcohols, while they are facing the challenges of unsatisfactory catalytic activity and selectivity. Herein, oxygen vacancy and facet engineering strategies are employed to modulate the ECR performance of Cu 2 O by doping transition metal oxides (TMOs). TMOs doping improves CO 2 conversion by suppressing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The catalyst doped with 0.001 mol% ZnO exhibits a high alcohols Faradaic efficiency of 63.67% at −0.3 V vs. RHE, which exceeds that of the bare Cu 2 O (35.4%). The enhanced activity and alcohols selectivity is ascribed to the enriched oxygen vacancy defects (57.26%) for enhanced CO 2 adsorption and activation and the synergistic effect between Cu and Zn sites for facilitated CO* protonation and C–C coupling. Alcohols selectivity increases from 56.87% to 64.27% and then declines to 63.67% with the increasing ZnO molar ratio from 0.00025 to 0.001. The Cu 2 O–ZnO-0.0005 catalyst features the octahedral structure (enclosed by the (111) and (100) facets) exhibits favorable ECR performance with the highest alcohols selectivity of 64.27% at −0.3 V vs. RHE. The enhanced alcohols selectivity is associated with the facet-dependent effect, as the exposed (111) facet favors CO 2 adsorption and activation in ECR. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of ketorolac with local anesthesia compared to local anesthesia alone for perioperative pain control in day care retinal detachment surgery. The randomized controlled trial included 59 eyes of 59 participants for retinal detachment surgery who were randomly assigned (1 : 1) into the ketorolac (K) group and control (C) group. All participants underwent conventional local anesthesia while patients in the K group received an extra administration of preoperative ketorolac. Participants in the K group had a statistically significantly lower intraoperative NRS score (median 1.0 versus 3.0, P=0.003), lower postoperative NRS score (median 0 versus 1.0, P=0.035), fewer proportion of rescue analgesic requirement (10% versus 34.5%, P=0.023), and lower incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (13.3% versus 41.4%, P=0.015) compared to the C group. Intraocular pressure (IOP) changes (△IOP) were significantly reduced in the K group (median 1.9 versus 3.0, P=0.038) compared to the C group 24 hours postoperatively. In conclusion, the combination of local anesthesia with ketorolac provides better pain control in retinal detachment surgery compared to local anesthesia alone. The beneficial effect of ketorolac with local anesthesia may contribute to a wider-spread adoption of day care retinal detachment surgery. MicroRNAs play critical roles in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression, which participate in the modulation of almost all of the cellular processes. Although emerging evidence indicates that microRNAs are related with antineoplastic drugs resistance, whether microRNAs are responsible for insecticide resistance in mosquitos is poorly understood. In this paper, we found that miR-285 was significantly upregulated in the deltamethrin-resistant strain of Culex pipiens pallens, and overexpression miR-285 through microinjection increased mosquito survival rate against deltamethrin treatement. Using bioinformatic software, quantitative reverse transcription PCR, luciferase reporter assay and microinjection approaches, we conformed that CYP6N23 was the target of miR-285. Lower expression of CYP6N23 was observed in the deltamethrin-resistant strain. While, mosquito mortality rate was decreased after downregulating expression of CYP6N23 by dsRNA against CYP6N23 or miR-285 mimic microinjection. These findings revealed that miR-285 could target CYP6N23 to regulate pyrethroid resistance, providing new insights into mosquito insecticide resistance surveillance and control. Summary Neurons receive input from the outside world or from other neurons through neuronal receptive endings (NREs). Glia envelop NREs to create specialized microenvironments; however, glial functions at these sites are poorly understood. Here, we report a molecular mechanism by which glia control NRE shape and associated animal behavior. The C. elegans AMsh glial cell ensheathes the NREs of 12 neurons, including the thermosensory neuron AFD. KCC-3, a K/Cl transporter, localizes specifically to a glial microdomain surrounding AFD receptive ending microvilli, where it regulates K + and Cl − levels. We find that Cl − ions function as direct inhibitors of an NRE-localized receptor-guanylyl-cyclase, GCY-8, which synthesizes cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). High cGMP mediates the effects of glial KCC-3 on AFD shape by antagonizing the actin regulator WSP-1/NWASP. Components of this pathway are broadly expressed throughout the nervous system, suggesting that ionic regulation of the NRE microenvironment may be a conserved mechanism by which glia control neuron shape and function. A new signal amplification strategy based on target-regulated DNA proximity hybridization (TRPH) reaction accompanying formation of three-way DNA junction was designed for electronic detection of Microcystin-LR (MC-LR used in this case), coupling with junction-induced isothermal cycling signal amplification. Initially, a sandwiched-type immunoreaction was carried out in a low-cost PCR tube between anti-MC-LR mAb 1 antibody-labeled DNA 1 (mAb 1 -DNA 1 ) and anti-MC-LR mAb 2 -labeled DNA 2 (mAb 2 -DNA 2 ) in the presence of target to form a three-way DNA junction. Then, the junction could undergo an unbiased strand displacement reaction on an h-like DNA nanostructure-modified electrode (labeled with methylene blue redox tag on the short DNA strand), thereby resulting in the dissociation of methylene blue-labeled signal DNA from the electrode. The newly formed double-stranded DNA could be cleaved again by exonuclease III, and the released three-way DNA junction retriggered the strand-displacement reaction with h-like DNA nanostructures for junction recycling. During the strand-displacement reaction, numerous methylene blue-labeled DNA strands were far away from the electrode, thus decreasing the detectable electrochemical signal within the applied potentials. Under optimal conditions, the TRPH-based immunosensing system exhibited good electrochemical responses for detecting target MC-LR at a concentration as low as 1.0 ng kg −1 (1.0 ppt). A split-type and dual-mode (photoelectrochemical and electrochemical, PEC and EC) biosensor was developed for non-invasive and sensitive detection of cortisol in saliva, based on antibody-aptamer sandwich model and enzyme catalytic amplification. Platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs)/CdIn4S2/TiO2/FTO served as the sensing electrode, and glucose oxidase/aptamer-conjugated Au nanoparticles (GOx-AuNPs-Apt) served as the measurement probe. In the presence of the target cortisol, a sandwich complex including cortisol, antibody, and GOx-AuNPs-Apt detection probe could be formed. When glucose and 4-chloro-1-naphthol (4-CN) were present, GOx and AuNPs in the complex worked together to catalyze glucose to generate H2O2, which encouraged PtNPs to catalyze 4-chloro-1-naphthol to generate a significant amount of benzo-4-chlorohexadienone (4-CD) precipitation. However, in the absence of cortisol, there was no 4-CD precipitation because none of the above catalytic reactions could be carried out. As an effective quencher, 4-CD may reduce photocurrent while simultaneously increasing charge transfer resistance, so a double-signal immunosensor using 4-CD as the signal indication was built. With the increase of target concentration, the PEC signal decreased while the EC signal increased, and within optimal conditions, this sensor had a good linear relationship in the range of 0.001−1000 ng/mL. The detection limits of photochemistry and electrochemistry were 0.8 pg/mL and 0.4 pg/mL, respectively. Abstract: Prostate-specific antigen (PSA), one of the indications of possible prostate malignancy, is used as a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer. Herein, we develop a new homogeneous potentiometric immunoassay for sensitive detection of low-concentration PSA without the need of sample separation and washing step. Two nanostructures including positively charged polyethyleneimine-poly(styrene-co-acrylic acid) (PEI-PSAA) nanospheres and negatively charged gold nanoparticles conjugated with anti-PSA antibody (Ab-AuNP) were first synthesized by using mulsifier-free emulsion copolymerization and wet chemistry method, respectively. Thereafter, the as-prepared PEI-PSAA was used as a pseudo hapten for the construction of immunosensing probe based on an electrostatic interaction between PEI-PSAA and Ab-AuNP. Upon target introduction, the added PSA competed with PEI-PASS for Ab-AuNP based on a specific antigen–antibody interaction, and displaced Ab-AuNP from PEI-PASS. The dissociated PEI-PASS was captured through the negatively charged Nafion- modified electrode, thereby resulting in the change of membrane potential. The fabrication process was characterized by using high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and dynamic laser scattering (DLS) technique. Under optimal conditions, the output signal was indirectly proportional to the concentration of target PSA in the sample and exhibited a dynamic range from 0.1 to 50ng/mL with a detection limit (LOD) of 0.04ng/mL. Intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation (CVs) were 6.8 and 7.5%, respectively. Abstract: A new flow-through electrochemical aptasensor was designed for ultrasensitive monitoring of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) by coupling microvalve-programmable capillary column with CdS-functionalized DNA concatamer for signal amplification. Initially, a layer of primary DNA-conjugated polyacrylamide hydrogel was covalently linked onto the internal surface of capillary column, and then an automated sequenctial injection format with a syringe pump was employed for development of the programmable capillary-based aptasensor. In the presence of target DNA aptamer, the immobilized primary DNA hybridized with partial bases of the aptamer. The excess aptamer fregment could trigger the formation of DNA concatamer between auxiliary DNA1 and CdS-labeled auxiliary DNA2. Upon target ATP introduction, a specific ATP-aptamer reaction was excuated, thereby resulting in the release of CdS-functionalized DNA concatamer from the capillary. Subsenquent anodic stripping voltammetric detection of cadmium released under acidic conditions from the released CdS nanoparticles could be conducted in a homemade detection cell. Under optimal conditions, the dynamic concentration range spanned from 0.1pM to 10nM ATP with a detection limit of 0.06pM ATP. The electrochemical aptasensor showed good reproducibility, selectivity, and stability. We report on a protocol for a simultaneous competitive immunoassay for tetracycline (TC) and chloramphenicol (CAP) on the same sensing interface. Conjugates of TC and of CAP with bovine serum albumin were first co-immobilized on a glassy carbon electrode modified with gold nanoparticles. In parallel, monoclonal anti-TC and anti-CAP antibodies were conjugated onto CdS and PbS nanoclusters, respectively. In a typical assay, the immobilized haptens and the added target analytes competed for binding to the corresponding antibodies on the nanoclusters. Subsequently, Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions are released from the surface of the corresponding nanoclusters by treatment with acid and then were detected by square wave anodic stripping voltammetry. The currents at the peak potentials for Cd(II) and Pb(II) were used as the sensor signal for TC and CAP, respectively. This multiplex immunoassay enables the simultaneous determination of TC and CAP in a single run with dynamic ranges from 0.01 to 50 ng mL for both analytes. The detection limits for TC and for CAP are 7.5 pg mL and 5.4 pg mL, respectively. No obvious nonspecific adsorption and cross-reactivity was observed in a series of analyses. Intra-assay and inter-assay coefficients of variation were less than 10 %. The method was evaluated by analyzing TC and CAP in spiked samples of milk and honey. Abstract: Redox-active magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (mMIP) nanospheres were first synthesized and functionalized with streptomycin templates for highly efficient electrochemical determination of streptomycin residues (STR) in food by coupling with bioelectrocatalytic reaction of enzymes for signal amplification. The mMIP nanospheres were synthesized by using Au(III)-promoted molecularly imprinted polymerization with STR templates on magnetic beads. Based on extraction of template molecules from the mMIP surface, the imprints toward STR templates were formed. The assay was implemented with a competitive-type assay format. Upon addition of streptomycin, the analyte competed with glucose oxidase-labeled streptomycin (GOX-STR) for molecular imprints on the mMIP nanospheres. With the increasing streptomycin in the sample, the conjugation amount of GOX-STR on the mMIP nanospheres decreased, leading to the change in the bioelectrocatalytic current relative to glucose system. Under optimal conditions, the catalytic current was proportional to STR level in the sample, and exhibited a dynamic range of 0.05–20ngmL−1 with a detection limit of 10pgmL−1 STR (at 3s B). Intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation were below 12%. The assayed results for STR spiked samples including milk and honey with the mMIP-based sensor were received a good accordance with the results obtained from the referenced high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. We have designed a new molecularly imprinted co-polymer (MIP) for the sensitive detection of streptomycin (STR) in food using enzymes as signal amplification. The MIP was fabricated via co-polymerization of aniline and o-phenylenediamine on gold substrate in the presence of STR as template. The assay is based on competitive binding of free STR and glucose oxidase-labeled STR (GOx-STR) to the imprinters on the MIP. On addition of glucose, hydrogen peroxide is formed that is detected by differential pulse voltammetry. Under optimal conditions, the decrease of the catalytic current is proportional to the STR concentration in the range from 0.01 to 10 ng mL−1, with a detection limit ( LOD) of 7.0 pg mL−1 STR (at 3 sB). Aim: This study aimed to determine the effects of iRoot BP Plus on receptor activator of nuclear factor‐κB ligand (RANKL)‐induced osteoclastogenesis in vitro and inflammation‐mediated bone resorption in vivo and investigated the underlying molecular mechanisms. Methodology: CCK‐8 was performed to test cell viability in RANKL‐induced RAW 264.7 cells and BMDMs in response to iRoot BP Plus. The effect of iRoot BP Plus on osteoclastogenesis was determined using TRAP staining and phalloidin staining, respectively. Pit formation assay was conducted to measure osteoclast resorptive capacity. Western blot and qPCR were performed to examine osteoclast‐related proteins and gene expression, respectively. Western blot was also used to investigate the signalling pathways involved. For in vivo experiments, an LPS‐induced mouse calvarial bone resorption model was established to analyse the effect of iRoot BP Plus on bone resorption (n = 6 per group). At 7 days, mouse calvaria were collected and prepared for histological analysis. Results: We identified that iRoot BP Plus extracts significantly attenuated RANKL‐induced osteoclastogenesis, reduced sealing zone formation, restrained osteolytic capacity and decreased osteoclast‐specific gene expression (p <.01). Mechanistically, iRoot BP Plus extracts reduced TRAF6 via proteasomal degradation, then suppressed the phosphorylation of mitogen‐activated protein kinases (MAPKs), blocked the nuclear translocation of c‐Fos and diminished nuclear factor‐κB (NF‐κB) p65 and NFATc1 accumulation. Consistent with the in vitro results, iRoot BP Plus extracts attenuated osteoclast activity thus protecting against inflammatory bone resorption in vivo (p <.05), which was accompanied by a suppression of TRAF6, c‐Fos, NFATc1 and cathepsin K expression. Au nanoparticles (NPs) are dispersively deposited on the explored nonpolar {100} plane of 3D porous ZnO nanosheets (NSs), parallel to the IEF direction. The SPR field parallel to the polar {001} facet, coupling with the IEF. Molecular-level understanding of the solar-driven CO 2 conversion is of importance to design high-efficiency artificial photosynthetic systems for rebalancing the global carbon cycle. Herein, some physical insights into the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) mediated CO 2 photoreduction were demonstrated with metal (Au, Ag, and Pd)/3D porous ZnO nanosheets (NSs). Such plasmonic photocatalysts were designed elaborately to expose the polar {001} facet, based on the physical prototype of field-field coupling, in order to benefit chemical polarization and activation of the inert molecule. Among these plasmonic metals, gold was found to be not only more effective for promoting the solar-driven CO 2 conversion, but unique for producing the higher hydrocarbon, C 2 H 6. A 10-fold enhanced conversion efficiency and a quantum efficiency of 1.03% were achieved on Au/ZnO NSs at ca. 80% selectivity to hydrocarbons under solar light irradiation. The characterization results indicated that the metal-semiconductor interaction enables the electron-phonon decoupling to generate more amounts of energetic electrons in the excited ZnO NSs by a proposed pathway, called the SPR energy transfer induced interband transition that promotes the semiconductor photoexcitation, kinetically accelerating the conversion. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the field-field coupling greatly intensifies the surface polarization for adsorbates, charging negatively the C atom of CO 2 and making O C O bond bent, along with the electrophilic attack by two competitive paths, leading to the concomitance of CO and CH 4. The loading of plasmonic metal nanoparticles alters the molecular paths of CO 2 conversion by tuning thermodynamically the first dehydroxylation step, consequently the product selectivity. As a central neurotransmitter, DA (dopamine) plays a vital part in human metabolism, and its accurate detection is of great significance in disease diagnosis. In this work, we used Cu/Co bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as templates and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to construct novel nanocomposite coral-like CuCo2O4@AuNPs with strong peroxidase activity and electrochemical response. The coral-like CuCo2O4@AuNPs showed excellent peroxidase activity, and the Km value was as low as 0.358 mM. In the presence of H2O2, the colorless substrate 3,3′,5,5′, -tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) can be catalytically oxidized into a blue product. Simultaneously, coral-like CuCo2O4@AuNPs, as an electroactive substance, possess strong electrocatalytic activity, which enhances the electron-transfer rate and promotes excellent current response. In the presence of DA, coral-like CuCo2O4@AuNPs can catalyze the oxidation of DA to dopaquinone, which further enhances the electrochemical signal. In addition, DA captures hydroxyl radicals and inhibits the oxidation of TMB, resulting in an obvious color change (blue turns colorless) and realizing colorimetric detection with the naked eye. On this basis, we successfully established a dual-mode colorimetric/electrochemical sensor using coral-like CuCo2O4@AuNP nanocomposites as a dual-signal probe. Combining colorimetric and electrochemical detection, the sensor achieved a wide linear range (0–1 mM) and a low detection limit (0.07 μM) for DA concentration. It was also successfully used for the detection of DA in human serum and urine with good results. The development of effective methods for dopamine detection is critical. In this study, a homogeneous colorimetric strategy for the detection of dopamine based on a copper sulfide and Prussian blue/platinum (CuS@PB/Pt) composite was developed. A rose-like CuS@PB/Pt composite was synthesized for the first time, and it was discovered that when hydrogen peroxide was present, the 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) changed from colorless into blue-oxidized TMB. The CuS@PB/Pt composite was characterized with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). Moreover, the catalytic activity of the CuS@PB/Pt composite was inhibited by the binding of dopamine to the composite. The color change of TMB can be evaluated by the UV spectrum and a portable smartphone detection device. The developed colorimetric sensor can be used to quantitatively analyze dopamine between 1 and 60 µM with a detection limit of 0.28 μM. Furthermore, the sensor showed good long-term stability and good performance in human serum samples. Compared with other reported methods, this strategy can be performed rapidly (16 min) and has the advantage of smartphone visual detection. The portable smartphone detection device is portable and user-friendly, providing convenient colorimetric analysis for serum. We provide a simple method to design and prepare a highly efficient Pt 10.9 Au 0.2 Ni 88.9 /C trimetallic nanocatalyst with a novel nanostructure of ultra-low (0.075 wt%) Au decorated PtNi alloy nanoparticles for methanol oxidation (MOR) and formic acid oxidation (FAOR). The electro-catalytic properties of Pt 10.9 Au 0.2 Ni 88.9 /C toward the MOR and FAOR are much more excellent than Pt 11.1 Ni 88.9 /C, Au 11.1 Ni 88.9 /C and commercial Pt/C, which is attributable to the synergy effect among Pt, Au, and Ni (electron charge donor effect of Au and Ni to Pt). It has transformed the surface electronic structure of Pt atoms. Moreover, Ni triggers the rearrange towards Pt and Au atoms, it could maximize the use of noble metals. The gold atoms decorated on the surface are conducive to the formation of OH ads as well as to weaken the adsorption of CO ads at platinum active sites. The Pt 10.9 Au 0.2 Ni 88.9 /C catalyst also exhibits outstanding stability during the MOR and FAOR. Postoperative pain is a common form of acute pain that, if not managed effectively, can become chronic pain. Evidence has shown that glia, especially microglia, mediate neuroinflammation, which plays a vital role in pain sensitization. Moreover, toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNF-R), the interleukin-1 receptor (IL-1R), and the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R) have been considered key components in central pain sensitization and neuroinflammation. Therefore, we hypothesized that activation of the body’s endogenous “immune brakes” will inhibit these receptors and achieve inflammation tolerance as well as relieve postoperative pain. After searching for potential candidates to serve as this immune brake, we identified and focused on the suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) gene. To regulate SOCS3 expression, we used paeoniflorin to induce heat shock protein 70 (HSP70)/TLR4 signaling. We found that paeoniflorin significantly induced SOCS3 expression both in vitro and in vivo and promoted the efflux of HSP70 from the cytoplasm to the extracellular environment. Furthermore, paeoniflorin markedly attenuated incision-induced mechanical allodynia, and this effect was abolished by small interfering RNAs targeting SOCS3. The as-synthesized Pt-CN exhibits excellent peroxidase-mimicking activity, which can catalyze the oxidization of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into TMB ox with sensitive colorimetric readout in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2). Moreover, the TMB ox also serves as a near-infrared (NIR) photothermal agent to convert the colorimetric readout into heat under the irradiation of an 808 nm laser. A competitive-type immunoreaction is carried out between AFB 1 and glucose oxidase (GOx)-labeled AFB 1 -bovine serum albumin (AFB 1 -BSA-GOx) conjugates. With the formation of immune complexes, the entrained GOx catalyzes the hydrolysis of glucose to generate H 2 O 2, which further involves the Pt-CN catalyzed production of TMB ox to increase colorimetric/photothermal readouts. Depending on the degree of TMB oxidation, the dual-mode immunoassay provides a linear range of 1.0 pg/mL to 10 ng/mL, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.22 pg/mL for the colorimetric assay and 0.76 pg/mL for the photothermal assay. Preoperative crystalline lens tilt and decentration showed strong predictive ability for postoperative clinically significant tilt and decentration of the intraocular lens in vitrectomized eyes. Purpose: To identify predictors and develop a prognostic nomogram for clinically significant intraocular lens (IOL) tilt and decentration in vitrectomized eyes. Setting: Zhongshan ophthalmic center, Guangzhou, China. Design: Prospective observational study. Methods: Patients with previous pars plana vitrectomy who underwent phacoemulsification with IOL implantation were enrolled in this study. The tilt and decentration of the lens and IOL were assessed by a swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography (CASIA2). Multiple logistic regression analysis and prognostic nomogram models were used to explore factors associated with clinically significant IOL tilt and decentration (defined as tilt ≥7 degrees and decentration ≥0.4 mm). Results: 375 patients (375 eyes) with a mean age of 56.1 ± 9.81 years were included. Lens tilt (odds ratio [OR] = 1.44), lens decentration (OR = 1.74), lens diameter (OR = 0.49), and hydrophilic IOL (OR = 2.36) were associated with IOL tilt over 7 degrees (all P <.05). Lens tilt (OR = 1.24), lens decentration (OR = 2.30), and incomplete capsulorhexis–IOL overlap (OR = 2.44) increased the risk of IOL decentration over 0.4 mm (all P <.05). Preoperative lens tilt together with lens decentration was identified as the strongest predictor of incident clinically significant IOL tilt (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.82, 95% CI, 0.76-0.88) and decentration (AUC: 0.84, 95% CI, 0.78-0.89), and the nomogram was constructed accordingly. Conclusions: The tilt and decentration of the crystalline lens, hydrophilic IOL, and incomplete capsulorhexis–IOL overlap were risk factors for clinically significant IOL misalignment. To investigate the levels of angiogenesis and inflammatory cytokines in individuals with myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV) and the changes in these factors following intravitreal anti-VEGF injection. Aqueous humor samples were gathered from eyes with mCNV, those with single macular bleeding (SMB) without mCNV in highly myopic eyes, and those with age-related cataracts. Using a multiplex bead immunoassay, we analyzed 28 angiogenesis and inflammatory factors in the aqueous humor. Furthermore, clinical data were documented for correlation analysis. In this study, the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), interleukin 8 (IL-8), and fibroblast growth factors 1 (FGF-1) were significantly elevated in mCNV compared to SMB eyes (p < 0.05). Their odds ratios for mCNV occurrence were 1.05, 3.45, and 2.64, respectively. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and VEGF-C were notably higher in mCNV than in cataract patients (p < 0.05), and VEGF-C correlated to the degree of myopic atrophic maculopathy (p = 0.024). Axial length exhibited a negative correlation with VEGF-A and positive correlations with VEGF-C, HGF, and MCP-1 (p < 0.01). Following anti-VEGF treatment, a reduction in VEGF-A, endothelin-1, and FGF-2 was noted in mCNV patients (p < 0.05), but MCP-1 levels increased. Our findings highlight the predominant role of angiogenesis and inflammation factors in mCNV pathogenesis. Bacterial cellulose (BC) had been considered as a promising Pickering stabilizer for its non-toxicity, high purity, and biocompatibility. The electron beam irradiation (EBI) technology had gained significant attention in the field of cellulose degradation due to its operational convenience and mild reaction conditions. Pickering emulsions using BC degraded by EBI as Pickering stabilizers were successfully prepared. Irradiated bacterial cellulose nanofibers (IBCNFs) exhibited a high aspect ratio(30–80 μm in length and 21–109 nm in width) and high absolute zeta potential (-50 mV). The optimal emulsification performance of IBCNFs was observed at an irradiation dosage of 100 kGy (IBC-100). The emulsions based on IBC-100 achieved an EI value of 96.15 ± 0.19%, while those based on IBC-500 obtained an EI value of 59.93 ± 1.47%. Stable Pickering emulsions were prepared when the concentration of IBC-100 stabilizer exceeded 0.3 wt% with a fixed oil phase of 30%, or when the rapeseed oil phase was below 50% while maintaining a fixed suspension of 0.5 wt% IBCNFs. Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) demonstrated that IBCNFs facilitated the formation of a dense interfacial layer at the oil-water interface and formed a three-dimensional network within the water phase. Which effectively hindered the aggregation and flocculation between individual oil droplets. Furthermore, rheological findings demonstrated that emulsions possessed primarily exhibited properties of elasticity, and their gel strength could be enhanced by adjusting the irradiation dosages of IBCNFs. Moreover, environmental stability experiments indicated that IBCNFs-based emulsions exhibited exceedingly high temperature (20–80 °C) and pH tolerance (4–12). Flocculation occurred under high acid (pH = 2) conditions and at high ionic levels (≥ 40 mM NaCl), without causing disruption to the emulsion droplet structure. This study provided an innovative approach to preparing cellulose nanofibers with high aspect ratio, which could be utilized as emulsion stabilizers. The study also demonstrated that Pickering emulsions based on IBCNFs exhibit excellent stability and rheological properties. Purpose. To analyze the visual prognosis of macular buckling in patients with high myopia foveoschisis (FS) and to identify factors that predict the final visual outcome. Methods. We retrospectively included 155 eyes of 155 patients who underwent foveoschisis-related macular buckling. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and coexisting macular pathologies were assessed as a measure of surgical outcome, and multivariate linear regression was performed to identify factors affecting final visual prognosis. Results. The mean preoperative BCVA was 1.19 ± 0.55 logMAR (20/308), while the mean postoperative BCVA was 0.82 ± 0.51 logMAR (20/133) (P < 0.001). Anatomical success was achieved in 151/155 eyes (97.42%) after the first surgery and in 155/155 eyes (100%) at the 2-year follow-up visit. Both preoperative and postoperative BCVA were better in eyes without macular hole (MH) than in eyes with MH. In patients with MH, the postoperative BCVA was significantly better than that before surgery when the MH was closed. However, the difference was not significant in patients with unclosed MH. Univariate analysis identified that baseline BCVA, age, MH, atrophic myopic maculopathy category, and postoperative intraretinal cyst were significantly related to BCVA at the postoperative 2-year follow-up. Multivariate analysis revealed that preoperative BCVA and age were significant factors. Conclusion. Better preoperative BCVA and younger age are predictors of better prognosis. Lead ion (Pb 2+ , a heavy metal ion existed every aspect of life) is one of the most important hazards for environment and human health. Herein we design an in-situ amplified electronic monitoring system for sensitive determination of Pb 2+ on Pb 2+ -specific DNAzyme-modified sensing interface. The assay consists of target-triggered cleavage of Pb 2+ -specific DNAzyme, initiator strand-induced DNA hybridization chain reaction, formation of hemin/G-quadruplex -based DNAzyme and its automatically catalyzed polymerization of aniline monomer along the double-stranded DNA. Experimental results indicated that the catalytic currents of the as-produced polyaniline were linearly dependent on target Pb 2+ concentrations from 0.05 to 50 nM with a detection limit (LOD) of 32 pM. Such a synergistic effect of hybridization chain reaction with DNAzyme-catalyzed polymerization provided a universal platform for sensitive screening of target Pb 2+ , thereby holding great promise for application in practice. We have developed a new class of organic-inorganic hybrid nanostructures based on the use of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), polyaniline, and a nickel metal nanostructure. It was applied to efficient non-enzymatic sensing of glucose based on its electrocatalytic oxidation. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-Ray were employed to characterize the material. It is shown that the doped polyaniline plays an important role in the formation of the hybrid nanostructures. Improved analytical performance is found when the hybrid nanostructures were placed on a glassy carbon electrode and used for non-enzymatic sensing of glucose at a typical working potential of +450 mV and a pH value of 13. Features include a fast response (~2 s), high sensitivity (6,050 μA mM cm), a linear range from 0.1 μM to 1.0 mM, and a low detection limit (0.08 μM). The response to glucose follows a Michaelis-Menten kinetic behavior, and the K value was determined to be 0.241 μM. Reproducibility and specificity are acceptable. Fructose and maltose do not interfere significantly. Importantly, the methodology was validated and evaluated for the analysis of 15 spiked human serum specimens, receiving in a good accordance with the results obtained by the non-enzymatic glucose sensing and the commercialized personal glucose meter. NiCoBP-doped multi-walled carbon nanotube (NiCoBP–MWCNT) was first synthesized by using induced electroless-plating method and functionalized with the biomolecules for highly efficient electrochemical immunoassay of prostate-specific antigen (PSA, used as a model analyte). We discovered that the as-synthesized NiCoBP–MWCNT had the ability to catalyze the glucose oxidization with a stable and well-defined redox peak. The catalytic current increased with the increment of the immobilized NiCoBP–MWCNT on the electrode. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) were employed to characterize the as-prepared NiCoBP–MWCNT. Using the NiCoBP–MWCNT-conjugated anti-PSA antibody as the signal-transduction tag, a new enzyme-free electrochemical immunoassay protocol could be designed for the detection of target PSA on the capture antibody-functionalized immunosensing interface. Experimental results revealed that the designed immunoassay system could exhibit good electrochemical responses toward target PSA, and allowed the detection of PSA at a concentration as low as 0.035 ng mL −1 . More importantly, the NiCoBP-MWCNT-based oxidase mimetic system could be further extended for the monitoring of other low-abundance proteins or disease-related biomarkers by tuning the target antibody. D‐π‐A type 4‐((9‐phenylcarbazol‐3‐yl)ethynyl)‐N‐dodecyl‐1,8‐naphthalimide (CZNI) with a large dipole moment of 8.49 D and A‐π‐A type bis[(4,4′‐1,8‐naphthalimide)‐N‐dodecyl]ethyne (NINI) with a negligible dipole moment of 0.28 D, were smartly designed and synthesized to demonstrate the evidence of a molecular dipole as the dominant mechanism for controlling charge separation of organic semiconductors. In aqueous solution, these two novel naphthalimides can self‐assemble to form nanoribbons (NRs) that present significantly different traces of exciton dissociation dynamics. Upon photoexcitation of NINI‐NRs, no charge‐separated excitons (CSEs) are formed due to the large exciton binding energy, accordingly there is no hydrogen evolution. On the contrary, in the photoexcited CZNI‐NRs, the initial bound Frenkel excitons are dissociated to long‐lived CSEs after undergoing ultrafast charge transfer within ca. 1.25 ps and charge separation within less than 5.0 ps. Finally, these free electrons were injected into Pt co‐catalysts for reducing protons to H2 at a rate of ca. 417 μmol h−1 g−1, correspondingly an apparent quantum efficiency of ca. 1.3 % can be achieved at 400 nm. Abstract: A new digital multimeter (DMM)-based immunosensing system was designed for quantitative monitoring of biomarker (prostate-specific antigen, PSA used in this case) by coupling with an external capacitor and an enzymatic catalytic reaction. The system consisted of a salt bridge-linked reaction cell and a capacitor/DMM-joined electronic circuit. A sandwich-type immunoreaction with target PSA between the immobilized primary antibody and glucose oxidase (GOx)-labeled detection antibody was initially carried out in one of the two half-cells. Accompanying the sandwiched immunocomplex, the conjugated GOx could catalyze the oxidation of glucose, simultaneously resulting in the conversion of [Fe(CN)6]3− to [Fe(CN)6]4−. The difference in the concentrations of [Fe(CN)6]3−/[Fe(CN)6]4− in two half-cells automatically produced a voltage that was utilized to charge an external capacitor. With the closing circuit switch, the capacitor discharged through the DMM, which could provide a high instantaneous current. Under the optimal conditions, the resulting currents was indirectly proportional to the concentration of target PSA in the dynamic range of 0.05–7ngmL−1 with a detection limit (LOD) of 6pgmL−1. The reproducibility, precision, and selectivity were acceptable. Abstract: A novel class of molecular tags, cadmium ion-doped magnetic poly(styrene-acrylic acid) nanospheres (Cd-MPSA), was first synthesized and functionalized with polyclonal rabbit anti-human luteinizing hormone antibodies (PAb2) for highly efficient electrochemical immunoassay of luteinizing hormone (LH). Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscope (FTIR) were employed to characterize the prepared Cd-MPSA. By using Cd-MPSA-labeled PAb2 as molecular tags, a novel sandwich-type immunoassay protocol was built for determination of LH on monoclonal mouse anti-human luteinizing hormone antibody (MAb1)-functionalized gold electrode. The assay was carried out in pH 5.3 HAc-NaAc buffer solution by square wave voltammetry (SWV). The signal was obtained by the reduction of the doped cadmium ions in the Cd-MPSA. Under optimal conditions, the currents increased with the increasing LH level in the sample, and exhibited a linear range from 0.25 to 240mIUmL−1 with a detection limit of 0.08mIUmL−1 LH at 3s B. The precision, reproducibility, and specificity were acceptable. No obvious difference was encountered in the analysis of spiking LH samples into newborn calf serum with the referenced values. Abstract: A new electrochemical immunosensor for sensitive determination of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) was designed by using redox-active nanogold-functionalized magnetic beads (GoldMag) as signal tags on the nanogold–graphene interface. To construct such GoldMag nanostructures, polyethyleneimine-functionalized magnetic beads (PEI-MBs) were initially prepared by using a wet chemical method, and the electroactive thionine molecules and gold nanoparticles were then alternately immobilized on the surface of PEI-MBs by using an opposite-charged adsorption technique and an in situ synthesis method, respectively. The synthesized GoldMag nanostructures were utilized as signal tags for the label of horseradish peroxidase-anti-TSH conjugates (HRP-anti-TSH). With a sandwich-type immunoassay format, the conjugated signal tags on the transducer were increased with the increasing TSH concentration in the sample, thus enhancing the signal of the electrochemical immunosensor due to the labeled HRP toward the catalytic reduction of H2O2. Under optimal conditions, the current was proportional to the logarithm of TSH concentration ranging from 0.01 to 20μIUmL−1 in pH 6.0 HAc–NaAc containing 6mM H2O2. The detection limit (LOD) was 0.005μIUmL−1 TSH at 3s B. The immunosensor displayed an acceptable reproducibility, stability and selectivity. Abstract: A new flow-through electrochemical immunosensor was designed for sensitive detection of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in human serum by using nanogold-functionalized magnetic graphene nanosheets as immunosensing probes. Initially, amino functionalized magnetic beads were covalently immobilized on the surface of graphene oxide nanosheets (MGPs), then nanogold particles were adsorbed on the amino groups of the MGPs to construct GoldMag nanocomposites functionalized graphene nanosheets (GMGPs), and then horseradish peroxidase-anti-AFP conjugates (HRP-anti-AFP) were assembled onto the surface of nanogold particles (bio-GMGP). With the aid of an external magnet, the formed bio-GMGPs were attached onto the base electrode in the flow system. With a non-competitive immunoassay format, the injected sample containing AFP antigens was produced transparent immunoaffinity reaction with the immobilized HRP-anti-AFP on the bio-GMGPs. The formed immunocomplex inhibited partly the active center of HRP, and decreased the labeled HRP toward the reduction of H2O2. The performance and factors influencing the performance of the immunosensor were investigated in detail. Under optimal conditions, the electrochemical immunosensor displayed a wide working range of 0.01–200ngmL−1 with a low detection limit (LOD) of 1.0pgmL−1 AFP (at 3sB). Intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation (CV) were below 10%. In addition, the methodology was validated with real serum samples, receiving a good correlation with the results obtained from commercially available electrochemiluminescence automated analyzer. We report on a new electrochemical biosensing strategy for the sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide (HO) in foodstuff samples. It is based on a gold electrode modified with layer of graphene patterned with a multilayer made from an organic-inorganic hybrid nanomaterial. Initially, a layer of thionine (Th) was assembled on the surface of the graphene nanosheets, and these were then cast on the surface of the electrode for the alternate assembly of gold nanoparticles and horseradish peroxidase. The large surface-to-volume ratio and high conductivity of the nanosheets provides a benign microenvironment for the construction of the biosensor. The use of such a multilayer not only shortens the electron transfer pathway of the active center of the enzyme due to the presence of gold nanoparticles, but also enhances the electrocatalytic efficiency of the biosensor toward the reduction of HO. The electrochemical characteristics of the biosensor were studied by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The number of layers, the operating potential, and the pH of the supporting electrolyte were optimized. Linear response is obtained for the range from 0.5 μM to 1.8 mM of HO, the detection limit is 10 nM (at S/N = 3), and 95% of the steady-state current is reached within 2 s. Abstract: Beta-amyloid (Aβ) derived from amyloid precursor protein (APP) has been associated with retinal degeneration in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and glaucoma. This study examined whether hypoxia exposure induces Aβ accumulation in RGC-5 cells. While levels of APP mRNA and protein significantly increased in the cells, elevated abundance of Aβ was also observed in cells and culture medium between 12 or 24 and 48h after 5% O2 hypoxia treatment. Additionally, there is a close relationship between induction of APP and Aβ and intracellular accumulation of ROS along with loss of mitochondrial membrane potential followed by the death of RGC-5 cells in culture under hypoxia. These results suggest a possible involvement of APP and Aβ in the death of RGCs challenged by hypoxia. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Compared to juvenile-onset best vitelliform macular dystrophy (BVMD), adult-onset BVMD is not well characterized and lacks strict diagnostic criteria. The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical and genetic characteristics of four advanced-age Chinese patients with adult-onset BVMD by combining multimodal imaging and genetic analysis. The four patients (all older than 50 years) were diagnosed with adult-onset BVMD at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (Guangzhou, China). Comprehensive ophthalmic examinations were performed, including analyses of best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, slit-lamp examination, fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, fundus fluorescein angiography and electrooculography. Genomic DNA was extracted from leukocytes isolated from peripheral blood obtained from these patients, their family members and 200 unrelated subjects from the same population. A total of 11 exons of the bestrophin-1 (BEST1) gene were amplified using PCR and sequenced. All of the four patients presented with lesions in the macular area. The patients were diagnosed with adult-onset BVMD based on multimodal imaging and genetic analysis. A total of four recurrent mutations, namely c.763C>T (p.Arg255Trp, p.R255W) in exon 7, c.584C>T (p.Ala195Val, p.A195V) in exon 5, c.910_912del GAT (p.304delAsp, p.D304del) in exon 8 and c.310G>C (p.Asp104His, p.D104H) in exon 4 of BEST1, were identified. Sorting intolerant from tolerant predicted that the amino acid substitutions p.R255W, p.A195V and p.D104H in the BEST1 protein were causing the damage. Combining multimodal imaging and genetic analysis was helpful in confirming the diagnosis of patients with adult-onset BVMD.
