L’article és una reflexió personal sobre la introducció de concepcions i concepcions alternatives en l’àmbit de la química al llarg de l’escolarització, d’educació infantil a batxillerat. S’analitzen els cinc punts bàsics que, en opinió de l’autor, caldria assumir en l’educació de la química, així com les lleis fonamentals de la ciència química que haurien de quedar ben establertes en acabar l’escolarització, i com poden treballar-se tenint en compte les possibles concepcions presents en l’alumnat., The article is a personal reflection on the introduction of conceptions and alternative conceptions in the field of chemistry throughout schooling, from early childhood education to high school. It analyzes the five basic points that, in the opinion of the author, should be assumed in the education of chemistry, as well as the fundamental laws of chemical science that should be well established at the end of schooling, and how they can be introduced taking into account the possible conceptions present in the students.

Les analogies com a eines per explicar les propietats de les substàncies i els objectes s'usen des de l'antiguitat. En l'article s'analitzen diversos treballs publicats recentment que proposen l'ús de peces de LEGO com a anàlogues d'àtoms per tal de modelitzar l'estequiometria de reaccions químiques per part d'alumnes d'11 a 12 anys. S'analitzen amb un cert detall les diverses concepcions errònies que aquesta analogia pot induir als estudiants sobre estructures moleculars, cinètica i altres conceptes químics que l'analogia no permet explicar., Since the antiquity, the analogies have been used as a tool to explain the properties of the substances and objects. In this article, several recently published works are analyzed proposing the use of pieces of LEGO as analogs of atoms in order to model the stoichiometry of chemical reactions for 11 to 12-year-old students. This analogy can induce several misconceptions to pupils about molecular structures, kinetics and other chemical concepts that the analogy cannot explain.

Com a coordinadors del monogràfic, hem plantejat la pregunta del títol de l'article a docents dels diferents nivells educatius (universitat, secundària i infantil i primària). L'article presenta les respostes dels professors i professores editades pels coordinadors. Les seves opinions pel que fa a la manera com desenvolupen la temàtica de l'àtom a classe, així com les seves reflexions al voltant de l'àtom, mostren diferents punts de vista i ens ofereixen un ventall de possibilitats docents. Agraïm als professors la seva col·laboració., As coordinators of the monograph issue, we have raised the question of the title of the issue to teachers of all levels of education (university, secondary, primary school and childhood school). This article presents the responses of teachers edited by the coordinators. Their opinions regarding how to develop the theme of atoms in their lessons, as well as their thoughts on the atom and students’ difficulties, show different points of view and offer a range of educational possibilities. S'han dissenyat més de mil taules periòdiques amb tota mena de formats i estructures. Cada una respon a la voluntat de destacar algun aspecte que el seu creador considera essencial. A l'article se'n mostren unes quantes de les que segueixen criteris menys convencionals. Al mateix temps, el format de la taula periòdica ha inspirat molts crea· dors a usar-lo per ordenar tota mena d'objectes i conceptes. A l'article es mostren i es comenten taules periòdiques químiques peculiars o pintoresques i unes quantes «taules periòdiques» de matèries ben allunyades de la química., More than one thousand periodic tables have been designed with all kinds of formats and structures. Each one is the answer to the will to highlight some aspects that its creator considers essential. The article shows a few of the tables that follow less conventional criteria. The format of the periodic table has also inspired many creators to use it for the classification of all types of objects and concepts. Several peculiar or bizarre chemical tables are shown and commented on in this article. A few of which are periodic tables that are really very far from chemical concepts.

Es compara la tècnica artística d'Ursus Wehrli amb l'anàlisi química, i es constata que la informació subministrada per l'anàlisi elemental (la fórmula empírica) és insuficient per comprendre completament les propietats d'una substància: cal saber visualitzar qualsevol objecte o substància a diferents nivells d'ampliació, des del visible a ull nu fins al nivell atomicomolecular. També es mostra el diferent grau de complexitat que hi ha entre la matèria inert i la matèria biològica., The artistic technique of Ursus Wehrli is compared with the chemical analysis, and it is realized that the information supplied by the elemental analysis (empirical formula) is not sufficient to fully understand the properties of a substance: it is necessary to know how to visualize any object or substance at different levels of extension, from the naked eye to the level of atoms and molecules. The different degree of complexity between inert and biologic matter is also shown.

Aquest treball és una recopilació, procedent de fonts secundàries, de quatre-cents nou noms de falsos elements. S'hi inclouen noms i símbols inicialment acceptats però no actuals d'elements o isòtops realment existents; noms que es van donar a elements realment existents però que no van ser acceptats de manera internacional, i un llarg llistat d'elements que van ser reivindicats però que no van ser finalment reconeguts per part de la comunitat científica.

En l'article es reflexiona sobre l'ús ambigu dels termes àtom i element en diferents moments de la docència de la química. Es discuteix especialment el fet que, a les taules periòdiques dels elements, hi figurin barrejades propietats de l'element real en les condicions habituals d'existència amb propietats de l'àtom de l'element, i es donen algunes recomanacions per evitar les falses concepcions a què poden induir., In this paper, a reflection is made about the different meanings of scientific terms, such as atom and element, and about the ambiguity of these meanings when used at different times in teaching chemistry. The discussion focuses on the fact that in many periodic tables, properties of the real element, as it is present in everyday life, are presented along with some properties of the element at an atomic level. Some recommendations are given in order to avoid the misconceptions that can be caused by these practices.
