Abstract

Triton X-100 (TX-100) molecules coaggregate with cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) molecules in aqueous solutions. In uniformly mixed solutions of TX-100 and CTAB, mixed micelles were formed and it was observed that there was interaction between the hydrophobic protons and hydrophilic protons of the 2 surfactants.

Abstract

Pt-H EXAFS in the presence and absence of hydrogen was used to gauge the nature of hydrogen adsorbed on Al(sub 2)O(sub 3) supported Pt-H particles. The Pt-H bond length is longer for weakly adsorbed hydrogen compared to strongly adsorbed hydrogen.

An explanation of the transport mechanism of 1-butene and propylene through dry AgNO(sub 3)-doped PSM membranes is detailed. This is achieved by multilayer diffusion together with the swelling of the surrounding polymer pendant side chains by the sorbed alkene molecules.

Abstract

It is found that incorporation of SnO2 and Sb2O5 into IrOx not only saved the precious content significantly but also generated a synergic effect to make Ti/IrOx-Sb2O5-SnO2 much more stable. Ternary IrOx-Sb2O5-SnO2 is a promising electocatalyst for O2 evolution.

7. Difference in micellar properties of sodium dodecyl sulfonate from sodium 4-decyl naphthalene sulfonate in D2O solution studied by 1H NMR relaxation and 2D NOESY

Abstract

1H chemical shift changes of sodium 4-decyl naphthalene sulfonate (SDNS) at 313 K show that its critical micellar concentration lies between 0.82 and 0.92 mmol/dm 3, which is in the same range as that of the previous study at 298 K. The spin–lattice relaxation time, spin–spin relaxation time and two-dimensional nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy experiments give information about the structure of the SDNS micelle and the dynamics of the molecules in the micelle. The size of the SDNS micelle remains almost unchanged in the temperature range from 298 to 313 K as deduced by analyzing the self-diffusion coefficient. Special arrangement of the naphthyl rings of SDNS in the micelles affects the packing of these hydrophobic chains. The methylene groups of the alkyl chain nearest the naphthalene groups penetrate into the aromatic region, which results in a more tightly packed hydrophobic micellar core than that of sodium dodecyl sulfonate.
