Frailty syndrome refers to the nonspecific state of increased body vulnerability and decreased antistress and recovery abilities after stress during aging. Sarcopenia is the major component of frailty and is characterized by the gradual loss of muscle mass, strength, and function with age. Inflammaging is the gradual increase in inflammatory status during aging, and it disrupts immune tolerance, causes physiological changes in tissues, organs, and normal cells, and is related to frailty and sarcopenia. The gut microbiota is an extremely complex and diverse microbial community that coevolves with the host. The composition and structure of the gut microbiota and the metabolism of tryptophan (Trp) significantly change in older adults with frailty and sarcopenia. The gut microbiota participates in regulating the Trp metabolic pathways of kynurenine (Kyn), 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), and indole in the gastrointestinal tract. The Trp metabolites derived from the gut microbiota may synergistically promote the occurrence of age-related frailty and sarcopenia by promoting inflammation in the intestines, nervous system, and muscles. The role and mechanisms of the gut microbiota, Trp metabolism, and inflammaging in age-related frailty and sarcopenia may be a worthwhile research direction to help promote healthy aging. Red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii (P. clarkii), is an important model crustacean organism used in many types of research. However, the effects of different doses of aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMAP) on the transcriptome and metabolites of P. clarkii have not been explored. Thus, this study investigated the molecular and metabolic mechanisms activated at the different exposure dosages of AMAP in P. clarkii to provide new insights into the strategies of P. clarkii in response to the high concentrations of AMAP in the environment. In the present study, the P. clarkii were divided into three groups (control group; low-dosage AMAP exposure; high-dosage AMAP exposure), and hepatopancreatic tissue samples were dependently taken from the three groups. The response mechanisms at the different dosages of AMAP were investigated based on the transcriptome and metabolome data of P. clarkii. Differentially expressed genes and differentially abundant metabolites were identified in the distinct AMAP dosage exposure groups. The genes related to ribosome cell components were significantly up-regulated, suggesting that ribosomes play an essential role in responding to AMAP stress. The metabolite taurine, involved in the taurine and hypotaurine metabolism pathway, was significantly down-regulated. P. clarkii may provide feedback to counteract different dosages of AMAP via the upregulation of ribosome-related genes and multiple metabolic pathways. Mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) deficiency exacerbates brain damage following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). The Nod-like receptor protein-3 (NLRP3) inflammasome also plays a vital role in cerebral I/R damage. However, the effect of UCP2 on NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated hyperglycemia and I/R damage is not clear. In the present study, UCP2-knockout (UCP2−/−) and wild-type (WT) mice were used to establish a model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and reperfusion under normo- and hyperglycemic conditions. HT22 cells were established as a model of oxygen–glucose deprivation and reoxygenation (OGD/R) with high glucose to mimic hyperglycemia and I/R in vitro. HT22 cells were treated with/without different concentrations of the UCP2-specific inhibitor genipin for different periods of time. The results showed that UCP2 deficiency significantly increased histopathological changes and apoptosis after cerebral I/R damage in hyperglycemic mice. Moreover, UCP2 deficiency enhanced NLRP3 inflammasome activation in neurons when cerebral I/R damage was exacerbated by hyperglycemia. Furthermore, UCP2 deficiency enhanced NLRP3 inflammasome activation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in HT22 cells under OGD/R and high-glucose conditions. UCP2 deficiency aggravated hyperglycemia-induced exacerbation of cerebral I/R damage. UCP2 deficiency also enhanced NLRP3 inflammasome activation and ROS production in neurons in vitro and in vivo. These findings suggest that UCP2 deficiency enhances NLRP3 inflammasome activation following hyperglycemia-induced exacerbation of cerebral I/R damage in vitro and in vivo. In this study, the characteristics of a dominant strain wx3 isolated from the tissues of several sick red swamp crayfish were studied, and the immune response of the red swamp crayfish under stress was analyzed. The whole genome analysis of wx3 identified it as Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. Masoucida , which was confirmed using the bacterial challenge test, and is the pathogen that causes red swamp crayfish head rot. The sensitivity of wx3 to a variety of antibiotics was found that wx3 was highly sensitive to 13 antibiotics, but was not sensitive to 4 antibiotics. Comparative transcriptome analysis showed that 811 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were enriched in the hepatopancreas 48 h after wx3 infection. The KEGG pathway analysis and GO analysis detected differentially expressed immune related genes, including C-type lectin 3 and Hsp22, which were upregulated, and also enriched in immune related pathways, such as the C-type lectin receptor signaling pathway, etc. In conclusion, by analyzing transcriptome, we found that red swamp crayfish infected with wx3 can exert a strong immune response. • It was found for the first time that Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. The New Chinese Diabetes Risk Score (NCDRS) is one of the recommended tools for screening undiagnosed type 2 diabetes in China. However, its performance in detecting undiagnosed diabetes needs to be verified in different community populations. Also, it is unknown whether NCDRS can be used in detecting prediabetes. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the performance of NCDRS in detecting undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes among the community residents in eastern China. We applied NCDRS in 7675 community residents aged 18-65 years old in Jiangsu Province. The results showed that the participants with undiagnosed diabetes reported the highest NCDRS value, followed by those with prediabetes (P < 0.001). The best cut-off points of NCDRS for detecting undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes were 27 (with a sensitivity of 78.0% and a specificity of 57.7%) and 27 (with a sensitivity of 66.0% and a specificity of 62.9%). The AUCs of NCDRS for identifying undiagnosed diabetes and prediabetes were 0.749 (95% CI: 0.739~0.759) and 0.694 (95% CI: 0.683~0.705). These results demonstrate the excellent performance of NCDRS in screening undiagnosed diabetes in the community population in eastern China and further provide evidence for using NCDRS in detecting prediabetes. Liquid‐like thermoelectric (TE) materials have the advantages of ultrahigh performance, low cost, and environment friendly, but their stability is greatly limited by the possible Cu/Ag deposition under a large current and/or temperature gradient. The pratical application based on liquid‐like TE materials requires both a high TE figure of merit (zT) for high energy conversion efficiency and large critical voltage for good stability, but they are very difficult to be simultaneously achieved in one material. In this work, both the zT and critical voltage are simultaneously optimized in Cu2Se via tailoring chemical compositions at multiple atomic positions, i.e., introducing Cu deficiency at the Cu‐sites to lower Cu ion chemical potential and alloying sulfur at the Se‐sites to reduce carrier concentrations. A maximum zT of 2.0 at 1000 K has been successfully achieved for Cu1.96Se0.8S0.2, about a 30% improvement over that for Cu2Se. More importantly, Cu1.96Se0.8S0.2 demonstrates a much higher critical voltage than Cu2Se, yielding a greatly enhanced service stability under the conditions with/without a temperature gradient. An Ni/Mo/Cu1.96Se0.8S0.2 TE unileg is successfully fabricated with a stable power output even after 400 thermal cycles between 473 and 873 K. Thermally insulating lightweight cement-based composites with excellent mechanical properties are urgently needed for the development of sustainably energy-saving buildings. Herewith two types of thermally insulating admixtures, glass bead (GB) and nano-silica aerogel (NSA), were used as the coarse and fine fillers, respectively, to fabricate thermally insulating cement-based composites (GB-NSA). The chemical components, micro-and-pore structures, mechanical and thermal properties of the GB-NSA composites were investigated by various experimental tests comprehensively. The results indicate that NSA can accelerate the hydration of cement and the carbonation of calcium hydroxide due to the loosely compacted matrix microstructure. The GB-NSA composites show complex and multi-scaled material structures due to the distinct characteristic sizes of GB, NSA and cement particles, and their interactions after cement hydration. Increasing the NSA content makes the material matrices more loosely compacted and the fracture surfaces much rougher due to the highly porous structure of the NSA particles and agglomerations, and the local W/C promotion supplied by the adsorbed water in their surfaces and pores. As a result, increasing the NSA content decreases the density and augments the total porosity, specific surface area and pore size distribution of the GB-NSA composites. Due to the fact that NSA weakens the matrices and interactions between the matrices and GB spheres, both the compressive and flexural strengths decay with the NSA percentage, and change linearly against the density and porosity. Also the thermal conductivity varies linearly to the density and porosity, but decays exponentially to the BET specific surface area. A strategy of incorporating NSA and other fillers in cement matrix may be an appropriate and effective way to design new types of thermally insulating cement-based composites for sustainably energy-saving buildings. Objective: The intestine is responsible for approximately one‐third of uric acid (UA) excretion. The effect of commensal Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis), one of the most colonized bacteria in the gut, on UA excretion in the intestine remains to be investigated. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of commensal E. faecalis on UA metabolism and gut microbiota. Methods: The 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to examine the species of Enterococcus in mouse fecal content. E. faecalis strain was isolated from mouse feces and identified to be E. faecalis W5. The hyperuricemia (HUA) animal model was established with yeast‐rich forage and 250 mg·kg−1·day−1 potassium oxonate. Oral administration of E. faecalis W5 was given for 20 days, serving as the Efa group. Results: Disrupted intestinal barrier, activated proinflammatory response and low UA excretion in the intestine were found in HUA mice. After E. faecalis W5 treatment, the gut barrier was restored and serum UA level was decreased. Additionally, fecal and intestinal UA levels were elevated, intestinal urate transporter ABCG2 and purine metabolism were upregulated. Moreover, short‐chain fatty acid levels were increased, and intestinal inflammation was ameliorated. Conclusions: Commensal E. faecalis W5 ameliorated HUA through reversing the impaired gut barrier, promoting intestinal UA secretion by regulating ABCG2 expression, and decreasing intestinal UA synthesis by regulating purine metabolism. Thermoelectric properties of Nd 1− x In x Te 3 ( x = 0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05) fabricated by high pressure sintering method were investigated in the temperature range of 291 K–673 K. The results indicate that over 623 K–673 K, the thermal conductivity of moderately doped Nd 1− x In x Te 3 ( x = 0.01, 0.03 and 0.05) is 40%–50% lower than that of un-doped NdTe 3 , which can be attributed to alloy scattering. Though the absolute values of the power factor are slightly reduced by the doping, the reduced thermal conductivity results in high values of ZT at 623 K. Specifically, the lightly In-doped compound Nd 0.99 In 0.01 Te 3 exhibits the best thermoelectric performance, with a figure of merit, ZT , of 0.18 at 623 K. This is almost a doubling of that of the un-doped NdTe 3 measured in this study, suggesting that the proper In-doping in NdTe 3 is a promising way to improve its thermoelectric performance. Creativity represents the pinnacle of higher-level cognition, but exactly how it is achieved remains poorly understood, especially when simultaneously facing the opposing challenge of intractable complexity. The aims of the current study were (a) to examine how the brain may achieve the dual goals of creativity and complexity reduction, and (b) to begin developing higher-level cognition and creativity in robots. We address these aims by (a) modeling an example of insight problem solving and comparing it to empirical data, and (b) testing the model on a robot platform. Unlike other models, we propose a single mechanism for both creative problem solving and complexity reduction. Focusing on creativity, the computational mechanism leads to insightful problem solving by restructuring an internal belief representation based on evidence collected during an incubation period. Because insightful problem solving has been examined closely in nonhuman primates, providing detailed quantitative datasets lacking in humans, we tested the model by comparing simulations to insightful problem solving by rhesus monkeys. Results show that the proposed model accounts for both the discontinuous three stage problem-solving patterns and the spontaneous generalization to novel cases observed with the monkeys. To test the model in a physical environment, we implemented it in a vision-equipped robot, and the model solved the same insight problem from camera percepts. Our model shows how the creative brain may address the dual challenges of complex environments–finding unprecedented opportunity hidden within potentially intractable complexity–and suggests that both challenges may be met by a single underlying computational mechanism. The aim of this study is to identify and consolidate reliable endoscopic features associated with H. pylori infection in gastric mucosa, which is one of the major causes of gastric cancer. A total of 256 Chinese patients with symptomatic stomach disturbances were enrolled. Pathological examination was conducted using a light microscope and biopsy specimens stained with hematoxylin-eosin. Endoscopic examination was performed using a high resolution video endoscope. The association between endoscopic features and pathological H. pylori diagnosis was compared, and endoscopic features significantly associated with H. pylori infection were identified. A total of 14 endoscopic features were observed. Six of the 14 endoscopic features, including mucus on the gastric mucosa, diffuse redness, spotty redness of fundic mucosa, enlarged fold, mucosal edema, and RAC (type D and type I), were highly associated with H. pylori infection and were significantly sensitive and specific predictors for H. pylori diagnosis. The type R RAC was not significantly associated with H. pylori diagnosis. Our results indicate that conventional endoscopy features can be used to diagnose H. pylori in Chinese patients and can help determine the risk factor for gastric cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Flammability and wrinkling are major defects that enormously restrict its application of cotton fabric in daily life. Herein, a N-heterocyclic compound with ammonium phosphate ester groups (PNH) was synthesized and served as a cross-linking agent to simultaneously enhance the flame-retardant and anti-wrinkle properties of cotton fabric. Fabric treated by 20 wt% PNH solution (CT/PNH20) possessed a wrinkle recovery angle of 234.8° and an LOI value of 42.7 %. It still self-extinguished during combustion even after 50 washing times, and the deterioration in flame retardancy mainly resulted from the formation of sodium phosphates during washing. Its LOI value after 50 washing times restored to 37.8 % from 27.5 % by a facile ion exchange strategy, revealing remarkable flame-retardant restorability. This work provides new insights into simultaneously enhancing the flame-retardant, anti-wrinkle performances of cotton fabric and restoring the flame retardancy of treated fabric after washing via facile and eco-friendly approaches. Background: Hyperglycemia exacerbates brain damage in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. Previous study found that Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP) has a neuroprotective effect on hyperglycemia-aggravated ischemic brain injury, which raising the possibility for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. However, the underlying mechanism of LBP-induced protection by ameliorating hyperglycemia-aggravated ischemia/reperfusion injury needs to be tested. This study aimed to investigate the effects of LBP on blood–brain barrier (BBB) integrity with a hyperglycemia-aggravated cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury model. Methods: Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into three groups: normoglycemic (NG), hyperglycemic (HG), and LBP-pretreated hyperglycemic (HG + LBP). Animals underwent middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) for 30 min, followed by 1-, 3-, and 7-day of reperfusion. Results: Our results showed that the neurological deficit, infarct volume, cell apoptosis, and IgG leakage in the HG group significantly increased separately, compared with that of the NG group, (p < 0.05). Pre-treatment with LBP reversed these injury indicators (p < 0.05). And much more severe degree of swelling endothelium, swollen astrocyte, and decreased tight junctions in the micro-vessel were detected in the HG group comparing to that of the NG group. In addition, increased degree of basement membrane degradation, dissociation between the astrocyte endfeet and basement membrane, and tight junction's protein degradation was found in the HG group compared with the NG group (p < 0.05). However, when exposure to LBP therapy could reverse the above alterations (p < 0.05). Conclusions: These results demonstrated that LBP could ameliorate hyperglycemia-exacerbated cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury via protecting the blood-brain barrier. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hyperglycemia aggravates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury via vascular injury. There is still a lack of effective pharmaceutical preparations for cerebral I/R injury under hyperglycemia. This study aimed to investigate the effects of oxymatrine (OMT) on hyperglycemia-exacerbated cerebral I/R injury in vitro and in vivo. The middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and reperfusion was established in the rats under hyperglycemia. Meanwhile, oxygen–glucose deprivation and reoxygenation (OGD/R) with high glucose was used as an in vitro model of hyperglycemic cerebral I/R injury. The results showed that the neurological deficit score, mortality, infarct volume and penumbra apoptosis in hyperglycemia group were significantly higher than those in normal glucose group. OMT pre-treated obviously reduced the degree of neurological deficit, mortality, infarct volume, improve cerebral blood flow after I/R in rats with hyperglycemia, and increase the survival rate of human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs) in high glucose and OGD/R group. OMT significantly improved the ultrastructure changes of endothelial cells, and maintain the migration and angiogenesis potency of HBMECs in high glucose and OGD/R group. OMT obviously alleviated the down-regulating CD31 and CD105 expression in cerebral microvessels caused by hyperglycemia. Liquid‐like materials are one family of promising thermoelectric materials discovered in the past years due to their advantanges of ultrahigh thermoelectric figure of merit (zT), low cost, and environmental friendliness. However, their practial applications are greatly limited by the low service stability from the Cu/Ag metal deposition under large current and/or temperature gradient. Both high zT for high efficiency and large critical voltage for good stability are required for liquid‐like materials, but they are usually strongly correlated and hard to be tuned individually. Herein, based on the thermodynamic analysis, it is shown that such a correlation can be decoupled through doping immobile ions into the liquid‐like sublattice. Taking Cu2−δS as an example, doping immobile Fe ions in Cu1.90S scarcely degrades the initial large critical voltage, but significantly enhances the zT to 1.5 at 1000 K by tuning the carrier concentration to the optimal range. Combining the low‐cost and environmentally friendly features, these Fe‐doped Cu2−δS‐based compounds show great potential in civil applications. This study sheds light on the realization of both good stability and high performance for many other liquid‐like thermoelectric materials that have not been considered for real applications before. In this work, we investigate suppressing mode instability in detail by varying the seed power in a large mode area all-fiber amplifier with a fiber core diameter of . The transverse mode instability (TMI) thresholds are systematically measured for different seed power. Our experimental results reveal that increasing the seed power has a positive influence on enhancing the output power before the TMI effect appears, and finally the TMI threshold is approximately doubled from 1030 W to 2280 W when the seed power is increased from 27 W to 875 W. Almost 84.7% slope efficiency is reached with different seed power before the TMI threshold power. During our operation, we also find that in this type of LMA fiber the beam quality of the amplifier is degraded gradually instead of a sudden change as the pump power increases. Objective: To assess the clinical efficacy of fucoidan‐assisted standard quadruple therapy (SQT) in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication and the improvement of gut microbiota. Methods: An open‐label randomized controlled trial was conducted at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University in Shandong Province, China. Ninety patients who tested positive for H. pylori were randomized to the standard quadruple therapy (SQT) group (SQ), SQT + fucoidan combination group (SF), and fucoidan + sequential SQT group (FS), respectively. Stool samples were collected for gut microbiota composition at baseline and after treatment. Results: After H. pylori eradication, the relative abundances of most conditional pathogens in the SQ decreased, while those of several beneficial bacteria increased or decreased (P < 0.05). In FS, the abundances of most beneficial bacteria increased gradually from baseline to week 12, while those of the conditional pathogens decreased (P < 0.05). The abundance of Bifidobacterium had a decreasing trend in SQ, but remained unchanged in SF and increased in FS (P < 0.05). The abundances of most beneficial bacteria were significantly higher in FS than in SQ and SF (P < 0.05). Addition of fucoidan enhanced symptom improvement during H. pylori eradication compared with SQT alone. Conclusions: Fucoidan considerably improved gut dysbiosis during SQT for H. pylori eradication. Gut microbiota can be maintained by the addition of fucoidan before eradication therapy with SQT rather than by concomitant addition with therapy. Introduction: The deleterious effects of psychosocial outcomes on diabetic patients’ health have not been fully investigated yet. This study was aimed to explore how psychosocial outcomes impacted on the health status of Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: A mix of stratified sampling and typical sampling were used to select diabetic patients in Jiangsu Province to conduct individual interviews. Health status was measured by EuroQol Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Psychosocial outcomes were measured by instruments used in the Diabetes Attitudes, Wishes and Needs survey, including psychological well-being, diabetes distress, patient empowerment, self-management, and patient reported healthcare provision. Clinical characteristics measured included diabetes comorbidities, complications and treatment. OLS regression analyses were used to estimate how health status varied with different characteristics. Results: Altogether 1614 patients with type 2 diabetes aged 18–65 years from 6 districts/counties in Jiangsu Province were included in the study. With general characteristics and clinical factors controlled for, psychological well-being among all psychosocial outcomes had the most significant association with health status, with a difference of 9.2 in VAS scores between likely depression and good well-being. VAS scores were also significantly lower in patients with high diabetes distress and significantly higher in those more frequently conducting physical activities. Other psychosocial outcomes were not significantly associated with health status. Conclusions: Likely depression and diabetes-related distress are negatively associated with health status while frequently conducting physical activities are positively associated with health status of type 2 diabetes patients aged 18–65 years from 6 districts/counties in Jiangsu Provinces. These findings underscore the necessity of undertaking routine assessment for depression and diabetes distress and prioritizing interventions on promoting regular physical activities in diabetic patients to improve health management and achieve better health outcomes. SnSe has attracted much attention from scientific researchers because of its reported high ZT values. In this study, Sm doped p-type SnSe polycrystal is prepared through melting synthesis and high pressure (6.0 GPa) sintering (HPS) method. The composition and microstructure of the samples was analyzed, and the thermoelectric transport properties were investigated in the temperature range of 303 K to 823 K. The results indicate that the electrical conductivity increases as Sm content increases. The Seebeck coefficient shows a decreasing trend with increasing Sm content. Due to the increase of alloy scattering, the total thermal conductivity decreases with increasing Sm content. The maximum power factor ( PF ) and ZT max value are 214 μW m −1 K −2 and 0.55 for Sn 0.97 Sm 0.03 Se at 823 K, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Stroke is a severe neurological disease that is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality, and the underlying pathological processes are complex. Ferroptosis fulfills a significant role in the progression and treatment of stroke. It is well established that ferroptosis is a type of programmed cell death that is distinct from other forms or types of cell death. The process of ferroptosis involves multiple signaling pathways and regulatory mechanisms that interact with mechanisms inherent to stroke development. Inducers and inhibitors of ferroptosis have been shown to exert a role in the onset of this cell death process. Furthermore, it has been shown that interfering with ferroptosis affects the occurrence of stroke, indicating that targeting ferroptosis may offer a promising therapeutic approach for treating patients of stroke. Hence, the present review aimed to summarize the latest progress that has been made in terms of using therapeutic interventions for ferroptosis as treatment targets in cases of stroke. It provides an overview of the relevant pathways and molecular mechanisms that have been investigated in recent years, highlighting the roles of inducers and inhibitors of ferroptosis in stroke. Additionally, the intervention potential of various types of Traditional Chinese Medicine is also summarized. In conclusion, the present review provides a comprehensive overview of the potential therapeutic targets afforded by ferroptosis-associated pathways in stroke, offering new insights into how ferroptosis may be exploited in the treatment of stroke. Stroke poses a significant risk of mortality, particularly among the elderly population. The pathophysiological process of ischemic stroke is complex, and it is crucial to elucidate its molecular mechanisms and explore potential protective drugs. Ferroptosis, a newly recognized form of programmed cell death distinct from necrosis, apoptosis, and autophagy, is closely associated with the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke. N6022, a selective inhibitor of S-nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR), is a "first-in-class" drug for asthma with potential therapeutic applications. However, it remains unclear whether N6022 exerts protective effects in ischemic stroke, and the precise mechanisms of its action are unknown. This study aimed to investigate whether N6022 mitigates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury by reducing ferroptosis and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Accordingly, we established an oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) cell model and a middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) mouse model to mimic cerebral I/R injury. Our data, both in vitro and in vivo, demonstrated that N6022 effectively protected against I/R-induced brain damage and neurological deficits in mice, as well as OGD/R-induced BV2 cell damage. Mechanistically, N6022 promoted Nrf2 nuclear translocation, enhancing intracellular antioxidant capacity of SLC7A11-GPX4 system. Furthermore, N6022 interfered with the interaction of GSNOR with GSTP1, thereby boosting the antioxidant capacity of GSTP1 and attenuating ferroptosis. Background: Dyslipidaemia is a risk factor for abnormal blood glucose. However, studies on the predictive values of lipid markers in prediabetes and diabetes simultaneously are limited. This study aimed to assess the associations and predictive abilities of lipid indices and abnormal blood glucose. Methods: A sample of 7667 participants without diabetes were enrolled in this cross-sectional study conducted in 2016, and all of them were classified as having normal glucose tolerance (NGT), prediabetes or diabetes. Blood glucose, blood pressure and lipid parameters (triglycerides, TG; total cholesterol, TC; high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, HDL-C; low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, LDL-C; non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, non-HDL-C; and triglyceride glucose index, TyG) were evaluated or calculated. Logistic regression models were used to analyse the association between lipids and abnormal blood glucose. The area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the discriminatory power of lipid parameters for detecting prediabetes or diabetes. Results: After adjustment for potential confounding factors, the TyG was the strongest marker related to abnormal blood glucose compared to other lipid indices, with odds ratios of 2.111 for prediabetes and 5.423 for diabetes. For prediabetes, the AUCs of the TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, TC/HDL-C, TG/HDL-C, non-HDL-C and TyG indices were 0.605, 0.617, 0.481, 0.615, 0.603, 0.590, 0.626 and 0.660, respectively, and the cut-off points were 1.34, 4.59, 1.42, 2.69, 3.39, 1.00, 3.19 and 8.52, respectively. According to the Japanese Gastric Cancer Treatment Guidelines 2018 (5th edition) for GCP, if the depth of invasion of the lesion is diagnosed as T1a and the diameter of the lesion is <=2 cm or <=3 cm, EMR or ESD is sufficient for complete resection.25 When it is accompanied by malignant lesions, surgical resection should be performed. Ischemic stroke poses a major threat to human health. Therefore, the molecular mechanisms of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI) need to be further clarified, and the associated treatment approaches require exploration. The NOD-like receptor thermal protein domain associated protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome serves an important role in causing CIRI, and its activation exacerbates the underlying injury. Activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome triggers the maturation and production of the inflammatory molecules IL-1β and IL-18, as well as gasdermin-D-mediated pyroptosis and CIRI damage. Thus, the NLRP3 inflammasome may be a viable target for the treatment of CIRI. In the present review, the mechanisms of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the intense inflammatory response and pyroptosis induced by CIRI are discussed, and the therapeutic strategies that target the NLRP3-mediated inflammatory response and pyroptosis in CIRI are summarized. • The protein levels of ULK1 were down-regulated in EBV-associated gastric carcinoma cell lines compared with EBV-negative gastric carcinoma. • EBV-miR-BART2-3p targets the 3'UTR of ULK1 and regulates its expression. • miR-BART2-3p regulates autophagy and migration by targeting ULK1, but does not effect cell proliferation. ULK1 (Unc-51-like kinase 1) is an evolutionarily conserved serine/threonine kinase that plays a central role in the regulation of autophagy. ULK1 is associated with prognosis for metastasis and survival in several tumors. However, its relationship with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has not been studied. We found that the expression of ULK1 in EBV-associated gastric cancer cells was lower than that in EBV-negative gastric cancer cells. Further, a luciferase reporter gene assay showed that miR-BART2-3p directly targets ULK1. EBV-miR-BART2-3p attenuated endogenous protein expression levels of some autophagy-related genes. MiR-BART2-3p could thus be involved in the regulation of autophagy. Most important, our research indicates that miR-BART2-3p targets ULK1, resulting in downregulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT) -associated marker proteins and reducing EMT and cell migration. Prognostic indicators in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) have been seeking under database analysis, and remarkable advance is on the way.This study calculated the scores of stromal and immune components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in 551 LUAD samples using the ESTIMATE algorithm on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. R package ''limma'' was used to selected differentially expressed genes (DEG). We have analyzed the DEGs by means of Gene Ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichments. The protein‐protein network, univariate Cox analysis, and Lasso regression analysis were performed to selected survival‐related genes. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) represented the enriched pathway of CC chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2). The ratios of immune cells in the TME of each LUAD sample were obtained using the R package "limma" and CIBERSORT algorithm in R 4.0.2.The ImmuneScore was positively correlated with prognosis regarding survival rate, T classification of TNM stages, and clinicopathological staging characteristics. GO and KEGG enrichments showed DEGs were associated with immune‐related activities. Three genes of LUAD were selected from the PPI network and Cox proportional hazards regression analysis. CCR2 was the most survival correlated gene by Lasso regression analysis. GSEA results showed that C2 kegg gene sets in the CCR2 high‐expression group were mainly enriched in the B cell or T cell receptor signaling pathway and natural killer cell‐mediated cytotoxicity. Correlation of CCR2 expression with prognosis was conducted, implicating a positive correlation with the prognosis of survival rate and M classification, negative correlation with the prognosis of T and N classifications. The correlation between CCR2 and tumor‐infiltrating immune cells (TICs) was analyzed, and 14 kinds of TICs were found closely correlated with CCR2 expression through difference analysis.Therefore, CCR2 has prognostic value as an immune indicator in LUAD. In this paper, the status quo, analytical methods, and treatment technologies of steady-state power quality problem with the largest influential degree and range are reviewed. Typical harmonic sources in regional power grids and their characteristics are investigated, the influence of harmonics on a regional power grid is described, and the main harmonic control measures including active and passive types are introduced. The sources, status quo, and adverse effect of the three-phase imbalance problem of regional power grids are examined. Meanwhile, relevant standards and imbalance calculation methods are introduced. The operation measures and treatment equipment for solving the three-phase imbalance problem are also presented. The status quo, mechanism, and danger of low voltage (LV) in regional grids are analyzed as well as the LV monitoring methods, and the corresponding treatment technologies are summarized. Salidroside is an active ingredient extracted from Rhodiola rosea that has anti-tumor activities. The current paper attempted to assess the impact of Salidroside on gastric cancer (GC) and explore the potential mechanism. GC cell lines (SNU-216 and MGC803) and gastric epithelial cell line GES-1 were treated with Salidroside. CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, flow cytometry and Transwell assay were respectively performed to evaluate GC cells phenotype. qRT-PCR and western blot were conducted to reveal the downstream genes and signaling of Salidroside. We found that 800 μM Salidroside was capable of reducing GC cells viability, while has no such impacts on GES-1 cells. Salidroside inhibited GC cells proliferation, migration, invasion and promoted apoptosis, which coupled with the down-regulation of p21, Bcl-2, MMP2, RhoA, p-ROCK1, Vimentin and the up-regulations of CyclinD1, Bax, cleaved caspases. miR-99a was found to be highly expressed in response to Salidroside treatment. Besides, the inhibition of MAPK/ERK and PI3K/AKT signaling induced by Salidroside was attenuated by miR-99a silence and in this process, IGF1R worked as a target of miR-99a. The anti-GC effect of Salidroside was also confirmed in a mouse model of GC. The promoting effect of Salidroside on miR-99a expression was also verified in vivo. Furthermore, Salidroside promoted the cisplatin-sensitivity of SGC7901/DDP cells. Background and Aims. Endoscopic removal of GISTs (gastrointestinal stromal tumors) is recently recognized, but less is known about its efficacy and safety. This study is aimed at assessing the feasibility, clinical efficacy, and safety of the endoscopic removal of gastric GISTs. Patients and Methods. Endoscopic removal (ER) of GISTs was performed in 134 patients at our hospital between January 2015 and January 2019. The clinical features, surgical outcomes, complications, pathological diagnosis, and risk classification were evaluated retrospectively. Results. ER was successful in 131 cases (98%), including 58 by ESD (endoscopic submucosal dissection), 43 by ESE (endoscopic submucosal excavation), 25 by EFTR (endoscopic full-thickness resection), and 5 by STER (submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection). In addition, GISTs of two cases were resected using LECS (laparoscopic and luminal endoscopic cooperative surgery) for the extraluminal and intraluminal growth pattern. The average tumor size was 1.89±1.25 cm (range: 0.5-6.0 cm). Of these patients, 26 cases had a large tumor size (range: 2.0-6.0 cm), and endoscopic removal was successful in all of them. During the procedure, endoclips were used to close the perforation in all cases, without conversion to open surgery. The average length of hospital stay was 5.50±2.15 days (range: 3-10 days). In the risk classification, 106 (79.7%) were of a very low risk, 25 (18.8%) of a low risk, and 2 (1.5%) of a moderate risk. The moderate-risk cases were treated with imatinib mesylate after ER. No recurrence or metastasis was observed during the follow-up period of 23±8 months (range: 3-48 months). Conclusions. Aims: Previous studies indicated that urinary glucose (UG) had a limited efficacy in diabetes screening. This study was designed to have a re-evaluation of its efficacy, taking into consideration the collection method of urine and the measurement approach for UG among Chinese adults.Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled a total of 7689 participants without known diabetes, who were fasted and asked to empty bladders before a 75 g glucose loading. Urine was collected 2 h post glucose loading, and UG was measured using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The efficacy of UG in detecting diabetes was assessed by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.Results: The area under the ROC curve was 0.89 for quantitative UG and 0.87 for qualitative UG. Quantitative UG was positively correlated with fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and 2 h plasma glucose (2 h PG) (r = 0.55 and 0.56, respectively, both P < 0.001). Quantitative UG displayed a sensitivity of 82.9% and a specificity of 84.7% in detecting diabetes at the corresponding optimal cutoff of 130 mg. Qualitative UG exhibited a sensitivity of 80.2% and a specificity of 85.6% at the optimal cutoff of glycosuria + 1. In addition, the sensitivity of both quantitative and qualitative UG was significantly higher than that of HbA1c (≥ 6.5%) (P < 0.001) and had a comparable sensitivity to 2 h PG (≥ 11.1 mmol/L) (P = 0.493).Conclusions: UG, either quantitatively or qualitatively measured at 2 h post glucose loading, was effective in diabetes screening. Background. Energetic effects of late evening snack (LES) on cirrhotic patients were reported recently, but there was no quantitative analysis. In this meta-analysis, we reviewed and quantified the effects of LES on energy metabolism and substrate oxidation in the patients with cirrhosis, which will be of benefit for liver cirrhosis nutritional therapy. Methods. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Elsevier, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Database for relevant trials published until July 2017. These studies statistically were combined and analyzed by RevMan 5.3. Results. Fourteen trials comprising 478 cases were eligible for analysis. The results showed that the respiratory quotient value (MD = 11.09) and carbohydrate oxidation value (MD = 0.05) significantly elevated with one week or with up to three weeks of LES treatment in cirrhotic patients (P<0.05). Meanwhile, the levels of serum albumin (MD = 2.98) and cholinesterase (SMD = 1.09) were increased with LES administration for three weeks or that lasting twelve weeks (P<0.05). However, there was no significant improvement for the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (P=0.53), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (P=0.96), and total bilirubin (TB) (P=0.32). Conclusions. LES could improve the energy malnutrition state of cirrhotic patients. However, it may have little effect on reducing liver parenchymal injury indexes such as serum aminotransferase. • The study of numerical simulation analysis of flow-structure coupling that integrates bile, bile duct, and mesh stent. • The FSI coupling system was numerically analyzed to show the velocity distribution of bile, the wall shear stress distribution of bile, and the Von Mises Stress distribution of the stent and bile duct. • Twelve FSI coupled systems with different stent monofilament diameters and braided heads were established for numerical simulation analysis to determine the optimal stent structure in the 8 mm diameter common bile duct. The performance and effects of 12 different structures of stents in the bile duct were compared and used the finite element method. Numerical models of the 12 kinds of fluid-structure interaction(FSI) coupling systems were established to investigate the relationship between three aspects (velocity distribution of bile, wall shear stress (WSS) distribution of bile, and Von Mises Stress(VMS) distribution on the stent and bile duct) and the structural parameters of the stent (monofilament diameter and the number of braiding heads). After calculating and analyzing the simulation results yielding distributions of velocity, WWS, and VMS and regions of bile duct susceptibility to stenosis, they were consistent with previous findings on the locations of restenosis occurring after stent removal, indicating that the simulation results could provide a useful reference for studying biliary stents. The results of the simulations showed that (i) eddy currents were prone to occur at the stent ends regions; (ii) the WSS distribution of the bile fluid in contact with the stent and bile duct related to the stent structure; (iii) the high VMS on the stent and bile duct was prone to occur at the stent ends. Lipolytic enzymes with unique physico-chemical characteristics are gaining more attention for their immense industrial importance. In this study, a novel lipolytic enzyme (Est11) was cloned from the genomic library of a marine bacterium Psychrobacter pacificensis. The enzyme was expressed in Escherichia coli and purified to homogeneity with molecular mass of 32.9 kDa. The recombinant Est11 was able to hydrolyze short chain esters (C2–C8) and displayed an optimum activity against butyrate ester (C4). The optimal temperature and pH were 25 °C and 7.5, respectively. Est11 retained more than 70% of its original activity at 10 °C, suggesting that it was a cold-active esterase. The enzyme was highly active and stable at high concentration of NaCl (5 M). Further, incubation with ethanol, iso propanol, propanediol, DMSO, acetonitrile, and glycerol rendered remarkable positive effects on Est11 activity. Typically, even at the concentration of 30% (v/v), ethanol, DMSO, and propanediol increased Est11 activity by 1.3, 2.0, and 2.4-folds, respectively. This new robust enzyme with remarkable properties like cold-adaptability, exceptional tolerance to salt and organic solvents provides us a promising candidate to meet the needs of some harsh industrial processes. Grass carp is one of the most common farmed fish and its growth rate has been the focus of various studies. However, the impact of long-term exercise on growth rate of juvenile grass carp has not been clearly established. In this study, a four-month exercise trial and liver transcriptome analysis were performed to investigate changes in growth, liver molecular regulatory network and key genes in grass carp. When compared to the non-exercised grass carp (N-EXF), the exercised grass carp (EXF) showed a significant improvement in growth. Liver transcriptome analysis revealed 1714 significantly up-regulated and 1672 significantly down-regulated genes. These genes were enriched in various signaling pathways. These pathways included: those associated with growth, such as the PI3K-Akt and mTOR signaling pathways; those associated with glucose metabolism, such as glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, insulin and AMPK signaling pathways as well as those associated with oxygen transport, such as HIF-1, PI3K-Akt, PPAR and MAPK signaling pathways. In addition, growth-associated genes, such as ghr , igf1 and igf1r ; glucose metabolism-associated genes, such as ins and insr as well as oxygen transport-associated genes, such as vhl , pdha and epo were identified. In conclusion, long-term moderate exercise improved the growth rate of grass carp. Our findings elucidate on changes in the liver molecular regulatory network and functional genes that occur during moderate exercise in fish. Abstract: A novel heteropolysaccharide was isolated from the fruiting bodies of Tricholoma matsutake through DEAE–cellulose column and Sephadex G-100 column. The T. matsutake polysaccharide (TMP-A) had a molecular weight of 8.89×104 Da and was mainly composed of 4-D-Glc:4,6-D-Glc:3-D-Gal:T-D-Xyl and with the ratio of 7:1:1:1. The structural features of TMP-A were investigated by a combination of total hydrolysis, methylation analysis, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), infrared (IR) spectra, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and dynamical analysis of the atomic force microscope (AFM) studies. The results indicated that TMP-A had a backbone of 1,4-β-glucopyranos which branches at O-6 composed of an (1→3)-α-galactopyranose residue and terminated with α-xylopyranose residue.
