Modelos didáticos são recursos pedagógicos que auxiliam no ensino da biologia que, apesar disso, são pouco utilizados pelos professores em suas práticas. O presente trabalho descreve uma metodologia de ensino fundamentada no uso e construção de modelos didáticos como ferramentas auxiliares no ensino da Citologia e Genética. O estudo foi realizado com alunos do ensino médio de uma escola pública de Pinheiro - Maranhão. Para a avaliação da metodologia aplicada foram utilizados questionários antes e após a atividade realizada. A média de acertos no pré-teste para as disciplinas de citologia e genética foram, respectivamente, de 16,25% e 7,5%, e no pós teste de 86,25% e 80%. Os resultados obtidos neste artigo apontam que o uso dos modelos didáticos acrescentados no ensino da Biologia enriquecem as temáticas e tornam o ensino mais dinâmico e atrativo

Utilizando uma abordagem metodológica baseada na análise de literatura especializada, o estudo busca examinar as complexidades do tráfico humano e suas ramificações. A conclusão ressalta a urgência de uma abordagem coordenada para enfrentar o tráfico humano, enfatizando a necessidade de ações eficazes para proteger os direitos humanos. Isso requer uma compreensão interdisciplinar e abrangente, o que torna imprescindível novas pesquisas para ampliar o conhecimento sobre suas causas e formas.

Cowpea mild mottle virus (CPMMV, genus Carlavirus, family Betaflexividae) is an economically important virus infecting soybeans in Brazil, where it was initially identified in 1983. CPMMV is transmitted by the whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, and occasionally by seeds. Over the last three decades, the most invasive B. tabaci Middle East–Asia Minor 1 (MEAM1), and lately the Mediterranean (MED) cryptic species, have replaced the indigenous species in Brazil, with MEAM1 being predominant. In this study, we investigated the transmission properties of CPMMV by MEAM1 and MED, and their distribution in major soybean-growing areas in São Paulo State. Our results from transmission assays with a single insect revealed that MED is a more efficient vector compared to MEAM1, transmitting the virus within a two-minute inoculation access period. B. tabaci MEAM1 is still the predominant whitefly species in São Paulo State, but MED was also identified in different places, mainly in mixed infestations with MEAM1. Some areas transitioned to a predominance of MED over the three years, while others, where MED had previously been detected, showed a reduction in the insects during the same period. Understanding the transmission dynamics of CPMMV and the distribution of its vectors is crucial for implementing effective management strategies to control the virus spread and protect soybean crops. Further research into the mechanisms driving the shifts in whitefly species dominance and CPMMV distribution will be essential for sustaining soybean production in Brazil.

Este artigo traz elementos sobre insegurança alimentar no Brasil, a partir de temas relativos ao crescimento populacional, mudanças climáticas, biodiversidade e sistemas alimentares tradicionais e regenerativos; trata também do papel dos movimentos sociais para a garantia do Direito Humano à Alimentação Adequada. O Grupo de Pesquisa em Nutrição e Pobreza, o Saúde Planetária Brasil, e o Centro de Inteligência Artificial (C4AI) - Eixo AgriBio, entendem que a retomada organizada e sistêmica das frentes apontadas neste artigo de posicionamento, pode constituir um caminho para a articulação entre pesquisa, serviço e políticas públicas na direção do combate à fome e às demais manifestações da má alimentação, enquanto problema complexo prioritário para a garantia do bem-estar social.

Abstract The southern region of Brazil is rich in hydric and biogeographic resources, contributing to the formation of distinct ichthyofaunistic niches and facilitating the isolation of some species. Despite the great ecological importance, there are few cytogenetic and molecular studies on the ichthyofauna of these basins. Therefore, specimens of Ancistrus abilhoai and Hemiancistrus fuliginosus were analyzed by combining cytogenetic and mitochondrial markers. Cytogenetic analysis revealed a diploid number of 2n = 48 for A. abilhoai and 2n = 56 for H. fuliginosus and Sites rDNA (by fluorescent in situ hybridization-FISH) were identified with 18S and 5S probes in synteny in pair 16 of A. abilhoai. At the same time in H. fuliginosus, these sites are located in separate pairs. Considering the Ancistrus cluster, based on COI molecular data, specimens of A. abilhoai were close to A. cirrhosushaving as sister group A. multispinis and A. brevipinnis. Regarding Hemiancistrus, H. fuliginosus specimens showed the same haplotype as the sequences of this species, available in the database, forming a distinct clade with H. aspidolepis as a sister group. The results of our work helped to better define the taxonomic status of A. abilhoai and H. fuliginosus, species endemic to southern Brazil and which have few studies within their respective genera.

This work proposes a new methodology to identify and validate deep learning models for artificial oil lift systems that use submersible electric pumps. The proposed methodology allows for obtaining the models and evaluating the prediction's uncertainty jointly and systematically. The methodology employs a nonlinear model to generate training and validation data and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm to assess the neural network's epistemic uncertainty. The nonlinear model was used to overcome the limitations of the need for big datasets for training deep learning models. However, the developed models are validated against experimental data after training and validation with synthetic data. The validation is also performed through the models' uncertainty assessment and experimental data. From the implementation point of view, the method was coded in Python with Tensorflow and Keras libraries used to build the neural Networks and find the hyperparameters. The results show that the proposed methodology obtained models representing both the nonlinear model's dynamic behavior and the experimental data. It provides a most probable value close to the experimental data, and the uncertainty of the generated deep learning models has the same order of magnitude as that of the nonlinear model. This uncertainty assessment shows that the built models were adequately validated. The proposed deep learning models can be applied in several applications requiring a reliable and computationally lighter model. Hence, the obtained AI dynamic models can be employed for digital twin construction, control, and optimization.

A leitura compartilhada de livros é uma atividade usual em aulas de crianças pequenas e está relacionada com a expansão do vocabulário nos iniciantes escolares. Estudos demonstram que a forma como os adultos realizam a leitura afeta a expansão do vocabulário. O objetivo deste estudo foi observar as práticas de leitura compartilhada de professoras nas aulas remotas, durante a pandemia, quanto ao trabalho com o vocabulário. Participaram deste estudo nove professoras e seus alunos de cinco e seis anos de idade, matriculados em quatro escolas particulares. Para a coleta de dados, foram utilizados cinco livros de histórias infantis e um questionário sociodemográfico. As 45 sessões de leitura foram gravadas e transcritas. Todas as perguntas feitas pelas professoras foram computadas e depois classificadas em dois grupos: perguntas que promoviam expansão do vocabulário e as que não promoviam. Os resultados encontrados mostraram que apenas 37% das perguntas formuladas pelas professoras foram feitas para desenvolver o vocabulário (χ² =162, 0 [1], p< 0,001), sugerindo pouca interação no sentido de expandir o vocabulário das crianças. Esperamos levantar questões sobre como as professoras têm trabalhado com os livros de história e ajudar na elaboração de estratégias para desenvolver o vocabulário das crianças.

14. First occurrence of bidens mottle virus in Brazil: biological and molecular characterization of isolates infecting Zinnia sp. and Bidens pilosa

ABSTRACT Zinnia sp. and hairy beggartick (Bidens pilosa) plants exhibiting symptoms of possible virus infection were found in the municipality of Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, São Paulo State, Brazil. Flexuous filamentous particles and cytoplasmatic inclusions typical of potyvirus infection were observed by transmission electron microscopy, respectively, in leaf extracts and cells of symptomatic leaves. Infection of both plants with bidens mottle virus (BiMoV) was confirmed by RT-PCR using potyvirus universal primers, followed by nucleotide sequencing of the amplicons. The nearly complete genome sequence of the Brazilian isolate, named BiMoV-BR, is 9700 nucleotides long and shares 95.6 % identity with the corresponding nucleotide sequence of a BiMoV isolate from the United States. BiMoV-BR was mechanically transmitted and caused systemic infection on plants of Zinnia sp., hairy beggarstick, sunflower (Helianthus annuus), and lettuce (Lactuca sativa). Myzus persicae transmitted the virus to Zinnia sp. plants with efficacy of 8 % and 42 %, using one and ten aphids per plant, respectively. This is the first detection of BiMoV in Brazil. Further studies are necessary to evaluate the distribution of this potyvirus in the country.

Transgender people have been experiencing significant advancements in their social visibility, although they continue to face frequent discrimination and exclusion. Among the issues encompassing transgender individuals' health care, the right to reproductive and sexual health have gained traction in the study landscape, necessitating an exploration of fertility preservation options for these patients. This report sheds light on the process of cryopreserving gametes and ovarian tissue after total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo‐oophorectomy for gender reassignment in a transgender man in hormonal masculinization. The procedure resulted in the cryopreservation of three immature oocytes and ovarian tissue fragments. The objective of this study is to contribute to the promotion of knowledge and the sharing of experiences, aiming to gradually enhance the attention on reproductive health among transgender individuals. Vários estudos têm apontado para um tipo de capitalismo hierárquico na América Latina, caracterizado pela presença de corporações multinacionais, estatais, grupos multiempresariais diversificados, baixa qualificação da mão de obra e mercados de trabalho segmentados. A partir da perspectiva das redes proprietárias – que revelam atores e grupos com posições proeminentes na estrutura e propriedade das empresas – exploramos quem são os donos das grandes corporações brasileiras. Assim, este artigo propõe: 1) descrever a rede proprietária das maiores corporações brasileiras; 2) analisar a densidade, o grau médio, a modularidade e o número de componentes conectados nessa rede; 3) analisar medidas de centralidade de grau ponderado, intermediação e autovetor; 4) identificar e analisar subgrupos na rede e 5) relacionar a configuração da rede proprietária com o capitalismo hierárquico no contexto brasileiro. Os resultados indicam que acionistas financeiros, o Estado brasileiro (por meio de empresas estatais) e grupos compostos majoritariamente por grandes multinacionais, empresas financeiras, famílias e empresas estatais estão em posições proeminentes, confirmando que a estrutura de propriedade está fortemente atrelada a esses atores.

Resumo Esta resenha apresenta uma análise crítica do livro Sobre o autoritarismo brasileiro, da antropóloga e historiadora Lilia Schwarcz, que procura realizar uma interpretação multidimensional do autoritarismo nacional. Através da apresentação dos argumentos principais presentes no livro, defendo que a autora constrói uma interpretação que não rompe com as tradicionais imagens do Brasil, reproduz uma perspectiva idealizada do sistema democrático e segue o nacionalismo metodológico, que fazem com que sua interpretação enfatize as supostas particularidades do caso brasileiro. Dessa forma, seu trabalho contribui para que continuemos em posição subordinada dentro da geopolítica do conhecimento na modernidade global.

Objective: Mental illness is an important public health concern, often starting early in life and particularly impacting children from low-and middle-income countries. Our aims were to 1) determine, in a representative sample of public preschool 4- to 5-year old children in Brazil, the prevalence of internalizing and externalizing disorders and socioemotional development delays; and 2) to identify modifiable risk factors associated with mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders (MBDD), such as microsystem (i.e., parent-child relationship), mesosystem (social support), and macrosystem contextual factors (neighborhood disadvantage). Methods: A random sample of public preschool children was recruited in the city of Embu das Artes (São Paulo metropolitan area) (n=1,292 from 30 public preschools). Six-month prevalence of MBDD was measured using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and the Ages and Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE). Results: Six-month prevalence estimates were 25.4% for internalizing disorders, 12.1% for externalizing disorders, and 30.3% for socioemotional development delays. MBDD prevalence estimates were higher in families with stressful relationships and parental depression or anxiety, and in families with lower social capital. Conclusion: At least 25% of preschool children living in an urban area in Brazil presented a mental health disorder. These mental disorder were associated with modifiable factors such as stressful family relationships and lower social capital. Prevention and intervention measures such as family therapy are needed to decrease such high prevalence.

The spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), causing the COVID-19 outbreak, posed a primary concern of public health worldwide. The most common changes in SARS-CoV-2 are single nucleotide substitutions, also reported insertions and deletions. This work investigates the presence of SARS-CoV-2 ORF7a deletions identified in COVID-19-positive individuals. Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 complete genomes showed three different ORF7a size deletions (190-nt, 339-nt and 365-nt). Deletions were confirmed through Sanger sequencing. The ORF7a∆190 was detected in a group of five relatives with mild symptoms of COVID-19, and the ORF7a∆339 and ORF7a∆365 in a couple of co-workers. These deletions did not affect subgenomic RNAs (sgRNA) production downstream of ORF7a. Still, fragments associated with sgRNA of genes upstream of ORF7a showed a decrease in size when corresponding to samples with deletions. In silico analysis suggests that the deletions impair protein proper function; however, isolated viruses with partial deletion of ORF7a can replicate in culture cells similarly to wild-type viruses at 24 hpi, but with less infectious particles after 48 hpi. These findings on deleted ORF7a accessory protein gene, contribute to understanding SARS-CoV-2 phenotypes such as replication, immune evasion and evolutionary fitness as well insights into the role of SARS-CoV-2_ORF7a in the mechanism of virus-host interactions.

Triatomines have evolved salivary glands that produce versatile molecules with various biological functions, including those leading their interactions with vertebrate hosts’ hemostatic and immunological systems. Here, using high-throughput transcriptomics and proteomics, we report the first sialome study on the synanthropic triatomine Triatoma sordida. As a result, 57,645,372 reads were assembled into 26,670 coding sequences (CDS). From these, a total of 16,683 were successfully annotated. The sialotranscriptomic profile shows Lipocalin as the most abundant protein family within putative secreted transcripts. Trialysins and Kazal-type protease inhibitors have high transcript levels followed by ubiquitous protein families and enzyme classes. Interestingly, abundant trialysin and Kazal-type members are highlighted in this triatomine sialotranscriptome. Furthermore, we identified 132 proteins in T. sordida salivary gland soluble extract through LC-MS/MS spectrometry. Lipocalins, Hemiptera specific families, CRISP/Antigen-5 and Kazal-type protein inhibitors proteins were identified. Our study provides a comprehensive description of the transcript and protein compositions of the salivary glands of T. sordida. It significantly enhances the information in the Triatominae sialome databanks reported so far, improving the understanding of the vector’s biology, the hematophagous behaviour, and the Triatominae subfamily’s evolution.

42. The Influence of Cognitive Biases and Financial Factors on Forecast Accuracy of Analysts

The objective of this study was to jointly analyze the importance of cognitive and financial factors in the accuracy of profit forecasting by analysts. Data from publicly traded Brazilian companies in 2019 were obtained. We used text analysis to assess the cognitive biases from the qualitative reports of analysts. Further, we analyzed the data using statistical regression learning methods and statistical classification learning methods, such as Multiple Linear Regression (MRL), k-dependence Bayesian (k-DB), and Random Forest (RF). The Bayesian inference and classification methods allow an expansion of the research line, especially in the area of machine learning, which can benefit from the examples of factors addressed in this research. The results indicated that, among cognitive biases, optimism had a negative relationship with forecasting accuracy while anchoring bias had a positive relationship. Commonality, to a lesser extent, also had a positive relationship with the analyst’s accuracy. Among financial factors, the most important aspects in the accuracy of analysts were volatility, indebtedness, and profitability. Age of the company, fair value, American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), performance, and loss were still important but on a smaller scale. The results of the RF models showed a greater explanatory power. This research sheds light on the cognitive as well as financial aspects that influence the analyst’s accuracy, jointly using text analysis and machine learning methods, capable of improving the explanatory power of predictive models, together with the use of training models followed by testing.

Mulching with recycled paper has the potential to be used in agricultural production and can be adopted in strawberry cultivation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic characteristics, water consumption and technical coefficients of strawberry cultivated with recycled paper as mulch. The treatments consisted of strawberry cultivation in lysimeters with recycled paper mulch and without soil cover. The recycled paper used was 187 μm-thick. The irrigation system was installed with drippers whose flow rate was 2 L h−1. Strawberry irrigation requirements were 317 and 394 mm, with and without mulch, respectively. Mulching with recycled paper did not have a significant effect on the average number of fruits, fresh fruit mass, fruit waste per plant, average fruit yield and water productivity. In relation to the technical coefficients, maximum values of the evaporation coefficient (Ke) of 0.40 (calculated with the evapotranspiration of the grass—L) and 0.28 (calculated with the Penman–Monteith ETo—PM) were obtained for OPM. The Kc values for the initial and full development stages were 0.31 and 0.84 (L) and 0.24 and 0.66 (PM), respectively. NDVI can be used to estimate strawberry Kc values. Recycled paper as mulch reduces the water consumption of strawberry crops and does not alter the agronomic characteristics.

This study aimed to determine the gas exchange and the chlorophyll content of green pepper plants under doses and times of application of bio-fertilizers based on manure and enriched organic compost. Two experiments were carried out simultaneously with applications of bio-fertilizers prepared from manure and enriched organic compost, one using cattle manure (CBF) and the other sheep manure (SBF). For these, four doses of biological fertilizers (100, 200, 300 and 400 dm³ ha-1), three application times (0, 30 and 60 days after transplantation - DAT) and absolute control, referring to the absence of fertilization, were used. treatments. were arranged in a randomized block design, totaling 13 treatments. The variables evaluated were: the relative chlorophyll a, b and total content; liquid photosynthesis (A); stomatal conductance (gs); internal CO2 concentration (Ci); instant carboxylation efficiency (iCE - A/Ci); transpiration rate (T); intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE - A/gs); and water use efficiency (WUE - A/E). Gs, A and T, showed significant effect at 60 DAT with the application of SBF and Ci at 30 DAT with CBF. The dose of 400 dm³ ha-1 of SBF provided greater gas results, and the doses of 200 and 300 dm³ ha-1 of CBF promoted a greater Ci, greater stomatal conductance, greater liquid photosynthesis and better water use efficiency, which results in a greater plant fresh weight at the time of flowering induction.
