Objective(s): The bio-distribution of Tc-99m HMPAO labeled platelets (LP), which could be used to image subtle thrombosis, is not reported in a human yet, which is the subject of the current study.Method: The platelets were extracted from 49 ml whole blood and labeled with Tc-99m HMPAO, then re-injected to the healthy volunteer. Anterior and posterior whole body imaging was done by a dual-head gamma camera 3, 18, 33, 46, 81, 124, 190 min and 15 hours after injection. Also a whole-body SPECT was done at 137 min post-injection. The area under the curves of the spleen, liver, left kidney, bladder, right lung, brain, and abdominal aorta ROIs was calculated to estimate the accumulation of labeled platelets within the organs.Results: The spleen was the target organ. The kidneys, liver, and heart were also remarkably visualized. The thyroid, stomach, bladder, or gastrointestinal (GI) uptake/activity was not significant. The stomach visualization was enhanced after ingestion at 60 min. The sagittal and lateral sinuses were delineated, and the background of the brain was very low. During the study, the area under the curve of activity was 738, 308, 302, 196, 230, 121, 79, 216, 529, 369, 162, and 54 counts. min/pixel for spleen, liver, heart, right lung, left kidney, right iliac artery, sagittal sinus, thyroid, bladder, stomach, GI, and background, respectively.Conclusion: The quality of the scan with low dose Tc-99m HMPAO LPs is optimal. We documented the bio-distribution of LPs. The optimal imaging time was 80-120 min post-injection when the free Tc-99m and GI transit were negligible. The sagittal and lateral sinuses were visualized enabling detection of possible clots in the vessels.

While a great deal of recent effort has focused on addressing a perceived reproducibility crisis within brain structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and functional MRI research communities, this article argues that brain positron emission tomography (PET) research stands on even more fragile ground, lagging behind efforts to address MRI reproducibility. We begin by examining the current landscape of factors that contribute to reproducible neuroimaging data analysis, including scientific standards, analytic plan pre-registration, data and code sharing, containerized workflows, and standardized processing pipelines. We then focus on disparities in the current status of these factors between brain MRI and brain PET. To demonstrate the positive impact that further developing such reproducibility factors would have on brain PET research, we present a case study that illustrates the many challenges faced by one laboratory that attempted to reproduce a community-standard brain PET processing pipeline. We identified key areas in which the brain PET community could enhance reproducibility, including stricter reporting policies among PET dedicated journals, data repositories, containerized analysis tools, and standardized processing pipelines. Other solutions such as mandatory pre-registration, data sharing, code availability as a condition of grant funding, and online forums and standardized reporting templates, are also discussed. Bolstering these reproducibility factors within the brain PET research community has the potential to unlock the full potential of brain PET research, propelling it toward a higher-impact future.

Key Clinical Message Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) can have an insidious onset and a fatal prognosis in children. Patients presenting without typical signs of SLE should undergo further evaluation if they are not responding to the initial diagnosis and treatment. This is especially true for patients with rapidly progressing symptoms and deterioration in spite of treatment. Abstract Pediatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is a chronic autoimmune disorder with various organ involvement pulmonary involvement in the course of this disorder is a rare yet potentially life‐threatening complication. In this case report we highlight the findings of a 16‐year‐old girl acutely and initially presenting with cough and fever, eventually complicating to diffuse alveolar hemorrhage and gradual loss of consciousness. Although the patient was started on immunosuppressive treatment after the diagnosis of lupus, based on renal and hematological impairment, was made and initially responded, she eventually deteriorated.

Key Clinical Message Anterior mediastinal mass often is serious and its diagnosis requires a comprehensive evaluation involving imaging studies, pathological analysis and consultation with a multidisciplinary team involving radiologist, thoracic surgeons, and oncologist.

Abstract Background Following rubella virus control, the most important cause of congenital infections is human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). Congenital CMV (cCMV) may happen both in primary and non-primary maternal infections. The present study aimed to screen cCMV in symptomatic newborns suspected of congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) in Iran. Methods Out of 1629 collected infants' serum samples suspected of CRS but negative for rubella IgM, 524 samples were selected regarding cCMV complications. These samples were divided into two age groups: 1- one month and younger, 2- older than 1 month up to one year. Anti-HCMV IgM detection was performed on these serums. Then HCMV IgG avidity assay and HCMV DNA detection were carried out on all samples with positive and borderline results in IgM detection. Results Herein, 3.67% of symptomatic infants aged one month and younger had positive and borderline HCMV IgM, 12.5% of which had a low avidity index (AI). HCMV IgM detection rate among symptomatic infants older than one month to one year was 14.5%. Identified genotypes in this study were gB-1(63.63%), gB2 (18.18%), and gB3 (18.18%), respectively. Conclusions This comprehensive study was performed on serum samples of symptomatic infants clinically suspected of cCMV from all over Iran. There was a good correlation between serology findings and PCR.

Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD) is a rare and fatal disease with non-specific clinical presentation often misdiagnosed as group 1 pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The rate of occurrence per one million people is reported to be one-tenth to two-tenths of cases, annually. Our case was a 25-year-old young woman who complained of aggravation of dyspnea during exertion and slight chest pain for two months. Her work-up included pulmonary function test (PFT), an echocardiogram, body box plethysmograph test, diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) test, positive ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) scan, computed tomography (CT) scan of chest, cardiac catheterization, and video-assisted thorascopic surgery (VATS). Echocardiography showed high pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP). The particular aspect of the present case was that due to the V/Q scan, the patient was diagnosed with chronic thromboembolic PH (CTEPH) and treated with anticoagulant, which did not have a good response. The crucial point is that in PVOD patients, V/Q scan can report segmental and subsegmental defects similar to CTEPH patients that creates a diagnostic challenge in patients. Definitive diagnosis of PVOD was based on VATS. Hypoxia, decreased DLCO, normal V/Q scan, and chest CT findings were used to diagnose PVOD. The patient’s treatment with diuretics, bosentan, and tadalafil led to the recovery of the patient’s hypoxia, saving her life for further treatment. With respect to the heterogeneous nature of the clinical presentation in PVOD patients, high clinical suspicion and appropriate diagnostic measures are required for diagnosis. The present study showed that PAH specific drugs in addition to diuretics can be used cautiously to control disease progression and save patients for lung transplantation.

Abstract Ganoderma lucidum is a promising medicine with a high amount of antioxidants and calcium. The selection of appropriate drying process methods in food science has a chief role to reach the best final characteristics. This study aimed to investigate the effects of air velocity and temperature in the convective dryer, sample distance, and infrared power in infrared dryers on the drying kinetics and quality of Ganoderma lucidum slices. In addition, Response Surface Methodology based on central composition design was used to optimize and analyze drying conditions. The ranges of temperature and air velocity were 40–60 °C and 0.5–1.5 m/s, respectively in the convective drying process while the range of distance and infrared power was 4–16 cm and 500–1500 W, respectively in the infrared drying process. It is worth mentioning that antioxidant and calcium contents were greatly enhanced during the drying procedures. Moreover, the values of the total color difference ranged between 8.21 and 19.66 for the convective dryer and 8.14 and 28.85 for the infrared dryer. A kinetic study indicated that dried samples by the infrared dryer could rapidly reach equilibrium moisture content due to exposure to IR radiation. Consequently, the results indicated that the infrared dryer has better performance than the convective dryer regarding drying time, energy consumption, and amount of calcium and antioxidant.

Lung cancer is the deadliest type of cancer in the world, and small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is one of the most fatal types of relevant tumors. The aim of this report was to describe the status of a patient presenting with progressive weakness, who did not have a previous medical history. Clinical examination revealed bilateral edema of the lower limbs. Lab results exhibited severe hypokalemia and metabolic alkalosis. physical examination showed elevated blood pressure. Imaging revealed a large mass with necrosis. Bronchoscopy was done and biopsy pathology showed SCLC. The patient underwent chemotherapy with cisplatin and etoposide. Following SCLC, the patient developed a type of paraneoplastic syndrome called Cushing syndrome. He experienced a severe decrease in saturation in the second session of chemotherapy and eventually died. With respect to the fact that most paraneoplastic syndromes are associated with poor response to treatment, high clinical suspicion is essential for the rapid diagnosis of these syndromes to improve outcomes.

Background: Several studies have reported neurological manifestations and complications related to specific coronavirus genotypes, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In this study, we examined one of the rare clinical manifestations of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which was one of the first cases of acute transverse myelitis in children in the world. Case presentation: This case report was dedicated to a little girl with COVID-19 admitted with weakness, lethargy, and constipation. Her magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed signal changes accompanied by edema. The patient did not show an optimal response to the methylprednisolone succinate and intravenous human immunoglobulins (IVIG) and experienced cardiorespiratory arrest. The patient was eventually discharged with partial recovery in limb power. Conclusions: his study demonstrates the importance of rapid diagnosis and treatment of the sequelae of COVID-19 infections.

Background: COVID-19 is a highly infectious and contagious disease. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, most studies on children have focused on the incidence and prognosis of the disease, and few studies have investigated the epidemiological characteristics of the disease. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate some epidemiological aspects of the disease in children with COVID-19. Methods: We examined children with COVID-19 (under 18 years) hospitalized in the North East of Iran from the beginning of the outbreak until the end of September 2020. Study information was collected from patients’ medical records and interviews with their parents. We recorded demographic data; history of diseases and taking medicine in children; educational, occupational, and smoking status of parents; patients’ residence conditions; and any report of COVID-19 in patients’ families and relatives. Results: Of 107 children studied, 57% were male, and 52.3% had no underlying disease. The mean age of patients was 67 months. The Mean±SD weight of the children was 20.36±13.75 kg, and their Mean±SD length of hospital stay was 9±8 days. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) was observed in 34.6% of patients, and its relationship with death was highly significant (P=0.001). The length of hospital stay was influenced by the history of medication consumption (P=0.013) and underlying disease (P=0.001), and its increase was associated with an increased risk of MIS-C (P=0.032) and death (P=0.047). Conclusions: Male sex, length of hospital stay, and MIS-C were identified as risk factors associated with worsening the outcome of COVID-19 disease in children.

Objective: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and Human Herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) are believed to involve in multiple sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis. Natural killer (NK) and CD8+ T cells have essential roles in handling viral infections and their phenotypic and functional properties may be influenced following exposure to viral infections. Here, we investigated the association of NK and CD8+ T cells subpopulations frequency with EBV and HHV-6 viral load in MS patients. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, EBV and HHV-6 viral load were evaluated in plasma of newly diagnosed relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) patients at relapse phase (n=23), who were not on disease-modifying therapy (DMT), and sex- and age-matched healthy controls (n=19) using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The frequency of NK and CD8+ T cells subsets were assessed by CD27, CD28, CD45RO, CD56, and CD57 markers using flow cytometry. Results: Despite the increased level of EBV viral load in RRMS patients compared to the control group, there was no statistically significant difference in EBV and HHV-6 copy numbers between the studied groups. In addition, a significant decrease was observed in the percentages of CD56bright CD57- and CD56dim CD57+ CD8low CD45RO- NK cells in RRMS patients in comparison to healthy controls. Analysis of CD8+ T cell subsets showed a substantially high proportion of CD27+ CD28+ CD45RO+ CD57- CD8hi T cells in patients at relapse phase compared to controls. The frequency of NK and T cells subtypes was not associated with EBV and HHV6 plasma viral loads. Conclusion: These findings further highlight the variation of NK and CD8+ T cells subsets frequency in clinically active RRMS patients. Since the composition of cells was not associated with EBV and HHV-6 viral load, perhaps other viral infections may be involved in altered NK and CD8+ T cells subpopulation. Larger cohort studies are needed to confirm these results.

Abstract Brain tumor localization and segmentation from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are hard and important tasks for several applications in the field of medical analysis. As each brain imaging modality gives unique and key details related to each part of the tumor, many recent approaches used four modalities T1, T1c, T2, and FLAIR. Although many of them obtained a promising segmentation result on the BRATS 2018 dataset, they suffer from a complex structure that needs more time to train and test. So, in this paper, to obtain a flexible and effective brain tumor segmentation system, first, we propose a preprocessing approach to work only on a small part of the image rather than the whole part of the image. This method leads to a decrease in computing time and overcomes the overfitting problems in a Cascade Deep Learning model. In the second step, as we are dealing with a smaller part of brain images in each slice, a simple and efficient Cascade Convolutional Neural Network (C-ConvNet/C-CNN) is proposed. This C-CNN model mines both local and global features in two different routes. Also, to improve the brain tumor segmentation accuracy compared with the state-of-the-art models, a novel Distance-Wise Attention (DWA) mechanism is introduced. The DWA mechanism considers the effect of the center location of the tumor and the brain inside the model. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on the BRATS 2018 dataset and show that the proposed model obtains competitive results: the proposed method achieves a mean whole tumor, enhancing tumor, and tumor core dice scores of 0.9203, 0.9113 and 0.8726 respectively. Other quantitative and qualitative assessments are presented and discussed.

Abstract In this study, a modified mesoporous adsorbent (MSU-S) impregnated by aluminum was used to remove the aromatic sulfur compounds from n-decane as the model fuel. Physical and chemical properties of as-synthesized adsorbent were investigated by XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy) and BET (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller) method. Adsorptive desulfurization of model fuel was studied through batch and continues processes under mild temperature and normal atmospheric pressure. The equilibrium adsorption was modeled by Langmuir, Temkin, and Freundlich and the kinetics of adsorption was studied through first, second and intraparticle diffusion models. It was figured out that Temkin and the pseudo-second-order model were best fitting the adsorption equilibrium and describing the kinetics, respectively.

Abstract The present study evaluates the drilling fluid density of oil fields at enhanced temperatures and pressures. The main objective of this work is to introduce a set of modeling and experimental techniques for forecasting the drilling fluid density via various intelligent models. Three models were assessed, including PSO-LSSVM, ICA-LSSVM, and GA-LSSVM. The PSO-LSSVM technique outperformed the other models in light of the smallest deviation factor, reflecting the responses of the largest accuracy. The experimental and modeled regression diagrams of the coefficient of determination (R2) were plotted. In the GA-LSSVM approach, R2 was calculated to be 0.998, 0.996 and 0.996 for the training, testing and validation datasets, respectively. R2 was obtained to be 0.999, 0.999 and 0.998 for the training, testing and validation datasets, respectively, in the ICA-LSSVM approach. Finally, it was found to be 0.999, 0.999 and 0.999 for the training, testing and validation datasets in the PSO-LSSVM method, respectively. In addition, a sensitivity analysis was performed to explore the impacts of several variables. It was observed that the initial density had the largest impact on the drilling fluid density, yielding a 0.98 relevancy factor.

Abstract In heat exchange applications, frost formation on the cold surface causes a decrease in the rate of heat transfer and growth in the pressure drop. Thus, the study on the frost thermal conductivity has a significant and vital place for the engineers and researchers dealing with the heat exchangers. In the literature, there is a lack of accurate and applicable methods for determination of frost thermal conductivity. Additionally, the high cost and difficulties of experimental works clarify the importance of computational and mathematical methods. The errors in the determination of frost thermal conductivity on parallel surface channels can cause inaccuracy in estimations of frost density and thickness. The main aim of present work is suggesting Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) models based on four different kernel functions for the estimation of frost thermal conductivity in terms of time, air velocity, relative humidity, air temperature, wall temperature, and frost porosity. To achieve this purpose, a total number of 57 frost thermal conductivity values has been collected. Comparing the suggested GPR models and other available computational methods express the quality of the developed models. The best predictive tool has been selected as a GPR model, including Matern kernel function with R2 values of 0.997 and 0.994 in training and testing phases, respectively. In addition, the effectiveness of discussing variables on frost thermal conductivity has been investigated by sensitivity analysis and showed that air temperature is the most effective parameter. The present work gives engineers an insight into frost thermal conductivity and the effective parameters in its determination.The significant advantage of present work is the accurate prediction of thermal conductivity by a brief knownledge in artificial intelligence.

Various therapeutic activities of Pistacia atlantica var. mutica such as hypoglycemic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity were shown by several studies. Regarding these therapeutic activities, and due to advantages of nanoparticles for drug delivery systems, the anti-colitic effects of P. atlantica var. mutica oleoresin nanoparticles were studied in acetic acid-induced ulcerative colitis in rats. Nanoparticles were synthesized by using ethanol and acetone as solvent. Nano precipitation method was also used for nanoparticles synthesis. P. atlantica oleoresin was orally administered to acetic acid-induced colitis rats at the doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg. Then rats were killed and their colons were dissected away for histopathological and macroscopic tests. Statistical results showed homogeneity and uniformity in size and size distribution of fabricated nanoparticles. Objective(s): In patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), sentinel lymph node (SLN) radio-guided biopsy is not routinely used for detection of involved neck lymph nodes (NLN); 99mTc- antimony sulfide colloid (99mTc- ASC) has been used for this purpose. In this study, besides 99mTc-ASC another radiotracer, 99mTc-phytate (99mTc-P) with different doses and injection methods were evaluated. Methods: Twenty-two patients, scheduled to undergo thyroidectomy for PTC, were injected for radio-guided SLN biopsy in the morning of operation in 3 groups: intra tumoral injection of about 1 mCi 99mTc-P (group A; n=5); peritumoral injection of less than 3 mCi 99mTc-ASC (group B; n=6); and peritumoral injection of 3 to 5 mCi 99mTc-ASC with application of massage (group C; n=9). A patient refused to complete the study. A patient with follicular thyroid cancer was also excluded. No NLN was detected in the pre-operative ultra-sonographic examinations of all patients. Central neck dissection was done for all the participants. The presence of radio guided detected NLN and results of pathology were assessed. Results: In group A and B, no SLN was detected. NLNs were resected in 4 patients in group A and B; 2 of them involved by the tumor. In group C, 6 out of 9 patients (66.7%) had between 1 to 6 SLNs; the procedure failed to detect NLN in a patient in group C with surgically resected reactive NLN (failure rate 1 out of 7). Conclusion: The results underscored the significance of SLN radio guided biopsy in patients with PTC; the radiotracer, dose and method of injection may affect the detection rate.

Abstract Goitered gazelles, Gazella subgutturosa, exist in arid and semiarid regions of Asia from the Middle to the Far East. Although large populations were present over a vast area until recently, a decline of the population as a result of hunting, poaching, and habitat loss led to the IUCN classification of G. subgutturosa as “vulnerable." We examined genetic diversity, structure, and phylogeny of G. subgutturosa using mitochondrial cytochrome b sequences from 18 geographically distant populations in Iran. The median‐joining network of cyt b haplotypes indicated that three clades of goitered gazelles can be distinguished: a Middle Eastern clade west of the Zagros Mountains (and connected to populations in Turkey and Iraq), a Central Iranian clade (with connection to Azerbaijan), and an Asiatic clade in northeastern Iran (with connection to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and other Asian countries as far as northeastern China and Mongolia). Based on our results, we argue that Iran is the center of diversification of goitered gazelles, due to the presence of large mountain ranges and deserts that lead to the separation of populations. In accordance with previous morphological studies, we identified the Asiatic clade as the subspecies G. s. yarkandensis, and the other two clades as the nominate form G. s. subgutturosa. The new genetic information for goitered gazelles in Iran provides the basis for future national conservation programs of this species.

Introduction: Poisoning is the most common method of non-fatal suicide. In recent years, poisoning caused by the use of medications and chemicals has increased. The present study aimed to investigate the rate of suicide using toxic compounds in Iranian children.Methods: This retrospective study was conducted using the data of 83 children aged 5-16 years who attempted suicide using toxic substances and were admitted to the pediatric and toxicology departments of Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad, Iran. Results: Among 500 suicide cases, 83 committed suicide using toxic substances, and 8.4% of the suicides were committed by children aged 5-7 years. In addition, 60% of the suicide cases were aged 14-16 years. In total, 45.5% of the children committed suicide with prior planning (statistically significant). The peak time of referral to the emergency department was between 6-12 PM, and more than 90% of the patients were admitted with stable vital signs. The most commonly used toxic substance was organophosphate. During admission, psychiatric counseling was not provided to 36.1% of the patients, and the clinical outcomes also showed the use of non-lethal doses. Conclusion: According to the results, it is of utmost importance to assess the underlying causes of suicide attempts in early childhood (e.g., prior planning and antisocial behaviors), especially with the increased age of children to 14-16 years in such incidents.

Abstract There is no biodistribution or imaging data on 99mtechnetium (Tc)-hexamethyl propylamine oxime (HMPAO)-labeled platelets in the literature. The current study aimed to present updated information about the clinical procedures for preparation and use of labeled platelets. Following two-step centrifugation at 1500 and 2500 rpm, the platelets were extracted from whole blood into platelet-rich plasma (PRP) above the buffy coat and then from PRP into a platelet pellet at the bottom of the tube. The 99mTc-HMPAO-labeled platelets were inspected for purity, viability, release of 99mTc from platelets, and sterility. Also, microscopic examination and thin layer chromatography (TLC) were performed. Biodistribution was assessed following necropsy in BALB/c mice and through imaging of New Zealand rabbits. The separation ratio was estimated at 98%, and radiochemical purity was measured to be 80%. The labeling efficiency was above 30% in more than half of the assays (range: 17-43%). The release of 99mTc from platelets was 9% per hour at 37ºC. After 24 hours, stability was estimated at 54% in the human serum. The target organs of mice included the spleen and liver. In rabbits, the imaging results indicated liver as the target organ. Thyroid uptake was negligible up to 90 minutes. Based on the findings, extraction of platelets and labeling them with 99mTc-HMPAO is a feasible and safe approach in routine practice.

Psychotic disorders are a group of severe mental disorders that can remarkably affect brain functions by altering beliefs and perceptions. There are different types of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia, delusional disorder, paraphrenia, etc. The symptoms of a psychotic disorder include delusions, mood swings, difficulty concentrating, unusual behavior, altered feelings, and so on. Symptoms may vary from person to person and change with time. Antipsychotic drugs and psychotherapy can be used in the treatment of psychotic disorders. In this case report, we describe a 39-year-old woman who suffered from methamphetamine- induced delusional parasitosis.

Background. Scleroderma is a complex disease involving autoimmune, vascular, and connective tissues, with unknown etiology that can progress through any organ systems. Objective. Yet, no cure is available; the thorough treatment of scleroderma and current treatments are based on controlling inflammation. Nowadays, medicinal plants/natural-based formulations are emerging as important regulators of many diseases, including autoimmune diseases. Here, we provided an overview of scleroderma, also focused on recent studies on medicinal plants/natural-based formulations that are beneficial in scleroderma treatment/prevention. Methods. This study is the result of a search in PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library with “scleroderma”, “systemic sclerosis”, “plant”, “herb”, and “phytochemical” keywords. Finally, 22 articles were selected from a total of 1513 results entered in this study. Results. Natural products can modulate the inflammatory and/or oxidative mediators, regulate the production or function of the immune cells, and control the collagen synthesis, thereby attenuating the experimental and clinical manifestation of the disease. Conclusion. Natural compounds can be considered an adjunct treatment for scleroderma to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from this disease.

Erythema Multiforme (EM) is a hypersensitivity reaction that can be triggered by an infection or particular medications. Erythema multiforme minor (EM minor) represents localized skin lesions with minimal or no mucosal involvement. Only a few case of EM associated with risperidone are found in the scientific literature. In this case report, the administration of the risperidone resulted in the rapid appearance of skin lesions. Erythematous lesions were recovered upon discontinuation of the drug and no new skin lesion was observed. A 52-year-old male patient was admitted to the psychiatry hospital because of developing schizophrenic symptoms. At the time of admission, risperidone was added to her previous drug regimen. Two weeks later, the patient returned with a complaint of progressively increasing rashes over his body. The patient was diagnosed with EM minor. The prescribed risperidone was discontinued due to its side-effect profile and the patient’s drug regimen was changed entirely to the olanzapine, haloperidol, and topical clobetasol. At one month follow up visit, his skin lesions were satisfactorily controlled.

Objective(s): In food industry, the inhibition of tyrosinase is very important, because this enzyme catalyzes the oxidation of phenolic compounds found in fruits and vegetables into quinones, which contribute in undesirable color and taste of fruits and vegetables. Teucrium polium L. var. gnaphalodes (Lamiaceae), a wild-growing flowering plant that has many applications in food preparations and traditional medicine. In Persian language, this medicinal herb is called Kalpoureh. Materials and Methods: 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments were used to determine the chemical structures of the isolated compounds. Antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitory activities of the isolated compounds were evaluated using DPPH, FRAP and mushroom tyrosinase inhibition assays. Results: In this research, we isolated two phenylpropanoid glycosides including verbascoside and poliumoside and two flavonoids including jaranol and isorhoifolin using chromatographic techniques. We found promising antioxidant and anti-tyrosinase compounds from Teucrium polium L. var. gnaphalodes. Conclusion: To date, different compounds have been isolated and characterized from T. polium including terpenoids and flavonoids. But no phytochemical study has been reported from T. polium var. gnaphalodes. Poliumoside and jaranol showed promising antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitory activities, respectively.

Effective molecular recognition remains a major challenge in the development of robust receptors for biosensing applications. Over the last three decades, aptamers and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have emerged as the receptors of choice for use in biosensors as viable alternatives to natural antibodies, due to their superior stability, comparable binding performance, and lower costs. Although both of these technologies have been developed in parallel, they both suffer from their own unique problems. In this review, we will compare and contrast both types of receptor, with a focus on the area of environmental monitoring. Firstly, we will discuss the strategies and challenges involved in their development. We will also discuss the challenges that are involved in interfacing them with the biosensors. We will then compare and contrast their performance with a focus on their use in the detection of environmental contaminants, namely, antibiotics, pesticides, heavy metals, and pathogens detection. Finally, we will discuss the future direction of these two technologies.

Introduction: Anxiety increases significantly during labor, especially among nulliparous women. Such anxiety may affect the progress of labor and physiological parameters. The use of essential oils of aromatic plants, or aromatherapy, is a non-invasive procedure that can decrease childbirth anxiety. This study examined the effect of inhalation of the aroma of geranium essential oil on the level of anxiety and physiological parameters of nulliparous women in the first stage of labor. Methods: In study, was carried out on 100 nulliparous women admitted to Bent al-Hoda Hospital in the city of Bojnord in North Khorasan province of Iran during 2012-2013. The women were randomly assigned to two groups of equal size, one experimental group (geranium essential oil) and one control (placebo) group. Anxiety levels were measured using Spielberger’s questionnaire before and after intervention. Physiological parameters (systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse rate) were also measured before and after intervention in both groups. Data analysis was conducted using the x2 test, paired t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Wilcox on test on SPSS 11.5. Results: The mean anxiety score decreased significantly after inhalation of the aroma of geranium essential oil. There was also a significant decrease in diastolic blood pressure.Conclusion: Aroma of essential oil of geraniums can effectively reduce anxiety during labor and can be recommended as a non-invasive anti-anxiety aid during childbirth.

The TP53 gene is one of the most frequently mutated genes amongst human malignancies, particularly TP53 codon 72 polymorphism. Furthermore, an association between the TP53 codon 72 variants and prostate cancer has been reported in several studies. Although some studies have indicated an association between the TP53 Arg/Arg variant and an increased risk for prostate cancer, other studies have shown a positive correlation between the TP53 Pro/Pro genotype instead. Therefore, to clarify if this polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer in Iranian men, we conducted a case-control study of 40 sporadic prostate cancer patients and 80 benign prostate hyperplasia cases.The TP53 codon 72 was genotyped using an allele specific PCR.A significant association between the TP53 codon 72 genotype and prostate cancer risk was found (OR = 6.8, 95% CI = [1.8-25.1], P = 0.005). However, the results of this study did not support an association between age, the Gleason score nor TP53 genotype at codon 72 in prostate cancer patients.TP53 codon 72 polymorphism may have a great impact in the development of prostate cancer.

Background: Imaging of the kidneys and urinary tract has a significant and critical role for diagnosis of genitourinary system diseases. Although technological progress goes toward less invasive approaches, some of the current methods are still invasive and annoying. Voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) is the best and most accurate method for diagnosis and grading of vesicoureteral reflux. VCUG is a distressful procedure that gives serious anxiety and pain in a large proportion of children and fear for parents; therefore, using effective sedative drugs with the least side effects is necessary and should be considered. Materials and Methods: In this review article, importance and efficacy of different drugs before catheterization VCUG be compared in the base of literature survey on EMBASE, PubMed, and Cochrane source. Results: We found that the treatment should be based on nonpharmacological and pharmacological methods; nonpharmacological treatment includes the psychological preparation before procedures as a safety precaution with little or no risk modality, as well as reassuring support. The presence of parents during painful procedures cannot alleviate children distress. Pharmacological methods include oral midazolam (0.5 mg/kg) and intranasal use (0.2 mg/kg) that had been used 10 min before the procedure can effect on anterograde amnesia and sedation without considerable effect on accuracy and grade of reflux. Nitric oxide has a shorter recovery time versus midazolam but has a potential risk for deep sedation and may interfere with the child's voiding phase. Conclusion: In summary, oral midazolam of 0.5–0.6 mg/kg or 0.2 mg/kg intranasal is acceptable drug that can be used before VCUG.
