Amaç: Bu araştırmada çocukluk çağı aşı reddine yönelik farkındaklık geliştirilmesine katkı sağlayabileceği düşünülerek Aile Sağlığı Merkezi’nde görev yapan hemşirelerin perspektifinden çocukluk çağı aşı reddini incelemek amaçlandı. Yöntem: Araştırmada, nitel araştırma desenlerinden olgubilim kullanıldı. Katılımcılar, Şubat-Haziran 2019 tarihleri arasında Zonguldak/Türkiye'de üç farklı Aile Sağlığı Merkezi’nde çalışan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 15 hemşireden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada araştırmacılar tarafından literatüre dayalı olarak hazırlanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanıldı. Veri toplama yöntemi olarak bireysel derinlemesine görüşme tekniği kullanıldı. Görüşmeler “Ailelere aşı hakkında bilgilendirme nasıl yapılmaktadır?” sorusu ile başladı ve katılımcıların onamı doğrultusunda ses kaydı yapıldı. Katılımcıların cevapları iki araştırmacı tarafından not edildi. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yöntemi ile araştırmacılar tarafından temalandırıldı. Bulgular: Araştırmanın ana temaları; çocukluk çağı aşılarının önemi, aşılara ilişkin red nedenleri ve ailelere yönelik bilgilendirme olarak belirlendi. Araştırmaya katılan hemşirelerin hepsinin çalıştığı kurumlarda çocukluk çağı aşı reddi ile karşılaştığı tespit edildi. Aşı redlerinin çoğunluğunun aşıların yan etkilerine bağlı olduğu belirtildi. En sık gözlenen yan etki ateş olarak belirtildi. Sonuç: Bu konuda daha fazla sayıda araştırma yapılması ve bu çalışmaların halkın farkındalık düzeyinin geliştirilmesine yönelik olması gerekmektedir. Bu şekilde çocukluk çağı aşı red oranlarının azaltılmasına katkı sağlanabileceği düşünülmektedir.

Hayatı tehdit edici hastalıklar nedeni ile yaşamsal fonksiyonlarını geri dönüşümsüz olarak belirli bir sürede kaybetmesi beklenen çocuk hastalara ve bu çocukların ailelerine verilen kaliteli yaşam sonu bakım, hem çocuğa hem de aileye iyi bir ölüm süreci sağlar. Bu süreçte görülebilecek ağrı, dispne, bulantı, kusma, diyare, psikolojik ve nörolojik sorunlar gibi semptomların optimal kontrolünün sağlanması önemlidir. Semptom kontrolünün yanı sıra çocuklarda iyi ölüm için çocuk, aile ve sağlık profesyonelleri arasında iyi bir iletişimin kurulması, aile ve çocuğun kararlarına saygı duyulması, tıbbi durum hakkında yalan söylenmemesi önemlidir. Ayrıca çocuğun rutinlerinin, akran iletişiminin ve oyun oynama imkânlarının bakım ortamında da devam ettirilmesi, aile merkezli bakım verilmesi de gereklidir. Çocuklara ölümün açıklanmasında çocukların gelişim dönemine göre ölümü algılayış biçimi göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır. Çocuklara yalan söylenmemeli ve onların soruları cevapsız bırakılmamalıdır. Pediatri hemşirelerinin yaşam sonu sürecindeki çocuklarda ve bu çocukların ailelerinde gözlenen yas sürecinin aşamaları ve belirtileri hakkında bilgi sahibi olması, hemşirelik yaklaşımında yas sürecinin aşamalarına uygun girişimlerde bulunması gereklidir.

A qualitative study evaluated perceptions of nurses in the drawings of 18 children ages 6–12 years hospitalized in pediatric units, and their expectations of nurses. The children made drawings of nurses and talked about the drawings with the researchers. The children’s perceptions of nurses were categorized as 55.6% positive and 44.4% negative. Content analysis of the interviews generated themes of children’s expectations of nurses: Health, compassion and support, and doing no harm. Analyzing pictures drawn by children is a useful method for health-care professionals to learn about children’s thoughts and feelings.

PURPOSE We aimed to examine energy drink (ED) consumption and its relationship to alcohol use disorders and impulsiveness in health sciences students. DESIGN AND METHODS This cross-sectional research was conducted with 1202 health sciences students. Data collection tools were "Energy Drink Consumption Form," "Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT)," and "Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11)." This descriptive study aimed to determine the perspectives of nursing students regarding sexual development of children with intellectual disability. This study was conducted with 455 nursing students at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey over the period September–November 2020. Data were collected from the students by e-mail. The instruments used to collect the data were a “Personal Charateristics Form” and the “Perspectives on Sexual Development of Children with Intellectual Disability Questionnaire,” which were prepared by the researchers. In this study, 55.4% of the students had previously received training on sexual development and health, and the source of education for 41.5% consisted of the courses taken in their undergraduate program. Of the students, 23.1% did not wish to communicate with children with intellectual disability or their parents about sexual development, 76.9% felt inadequate in their communication with children and parents about sexual development, 46.2% felt they could identify deviations in sexual development in children with intellectual disability, and 81.5% believed that children with intellectual disability were more vulnerable to sexual abuse. The viewpoints of 4th-year students about sexual development of children with intellectual disability were more positive. Sexual development education should be included in the nursing undergraduate curriculum from the first year of the program.

Giriş: Yeme davranışı, yemek yeme ve yeme zamanını içeren biyopsikososyal kökenli karmaşık bir davranıştır. Amaç: Bu çalışma, engelli çocuğa sahip aileler tarafından değerlendirilen Çocuklar İçin Yeme Davranışları Ölçeği’nin (The Children’s Eating Behavior Inventory/CEBI) Türkçe eşdeğerliğini sağlamak, geçerlik ve güvenirliğini belirlemek amacı ile yapılmıştır. Yöntem: Ölçek için çeviri geri çeviri yöntemi, içerik geçerliği için kapsam geçerlik indeksi, yapı geçerliği için açıklayıcı ve doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Ölçek güvenirliğini test edebilmek için Cronbach alfa değeri, madde toplam korelasyonu kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin test tekrar test güvenirliği 72, iç tutarlılığı ve yapı geçerliği ise en az iki çocuklu eşi ile birlikte yaşayan engelli çocuğa sahip 190 ebeveynden toplanan veriler ile belirlenmiştir. Bulgular: Ölçeğin Cronbach’s alfa değeri .77 olup ölçek genel kabul görür düzeyde güvenilir olarak belirlenmiştir. Faktör analizi sonucuna göre; ölçeğin 5 faktör altında toplandığı, açıklayıcılık katsayısının %65.05 olduğu görülmüştür. Verilerin faktör analizi için uygunluğunu değerlendirmede kullanılan Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin değeri .71’dir. Bartlet Küresellik Testinde x2/df = 1370.545/171, p< .001 olup veriler faktör analizi için uygun görülmüştür. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonuçlarına göre kabul edilebilir ve iyi uyum göstermektedir (p=.001; p< .01). Sonuç: Çocuklar İçin Yeme Davranışları Ölçeği’nin Türkçe formunun iki ebeveynli, en az iki kardeşe sahip engelli çocukların yeme davranışlarını değerlendirmek için geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek olduğunu göstermiştir.

The aim of this review is to examine the literature on the effect of non-pharmacological methods on children's anxiety, pain level and parental satisfaction during blood collection. There are 2 doctoral theses and 12 master's theses at NTC National Thesis Center on pain management during the blood collection process in children. Numerous publications and articles have been searched and it is observed that non-pharmacological methods applied during the blood collection process generally have positive effects on pediatric patients and their families. It is thought that non-pharmacological techniques applied during the blood collection process will reduce the anxiety, fear and pain in children and increase the satisfaction of the family and the child in nursing care and their compliance with thenonpharmacologic methods during blood collection in children is discussed. ​Extended English summary is in the end ofFull TextPDF (TURKISH)file. Konuyla ilgili sayısız yayın ve makale taranmış olup, genel itibariyle kan alma işlemi sırasında uygulanan nonfarmakolojik yöntemlerin çocuk hastalar ve aileleri üzerinde olumlu etkiler yaptığı gözlenmiştir. Kan alma işlemi sırasında uygulanan nonfarmakolojik tekniklerin çocuklarda oluşan anksiyete, korku ve ağrıyı azaltmasının yanında ailenin ve çocuğun hemşirelik bakımında memnuniyetini ve tıbbi işlemlere olan uyumunu artırarak, tıbbi işlem korkusuna bağlı oluşan psikosomatik komplikasyonların kısa ve uzun dönem sonuçlarını olumlu yönde etkileyeceği düşünülmektedir. Bu derlemede, çocuklarda kan alma işlemi sırasında nonfarmakolajik yöntemlerin kullanımından bahsedilmiştir.

The aim of thisstudy was to investigate the relationship between healthy adolescent childrenand disabled siblings in families with handicapped children.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study that was conducted at four specialeducation centers located in Zonguldak province between April 14th and May 14thwith 125 disabled children, 125 theirparents and 125 healthy developing siblings. İt was aimed to evaluate familyfunctionality and its influence on sibling relations and sibling problems. Thedata for the study was gathered through General Information Form, SiblingProblems Questionnarre (SPQ), Schaeffer Sibling Behavior Rating Scale(SSBRS)-Sibling’s Form and Family Assesment Device (FAD). Results: 57.5% of healtly adolescents were female and in10-14 age group. 60.0 % of disabled siblings were male. 47.5% mental disabledand 53.3% have the educationlevel through secondary school. 65.8% of matherswere in 35-44 age group. 66.7% graduated from primary school and 94.2% werehousewives. 54.2% of fathers were 35-44 age group, 39.2% were primary schoolgraduate and 50.0 % of them were workers. In comparasion of FAD-SPQ total pointof SPQ had been decrease in the subscales point of FAD increase; exceptmaternal/paternal dimension of behaviour control subscales. İn comparasion ofSSBRS-SPQ sobscale point of SSBRS on being kind, synergy-being connected andempathy had been increased as well as SPQ total point increase, on the otherhand abstienence-restraint subscale point of SSBRS had been increased as weelas total point of SPQ increase. In comparasion of FAD-SSBRS statisticallysignificant relationship was found.Conclusion: In this study, it was determined thatsibling relationships between healthy adolescent and disabled siblings wereaffected by sibling problems and family functions. This study was conducted for the purpose of determining attachment styles and attitudes of coping with stress in female inmates. The research is a cross sectional type of descriptive epidemiological research. The study was conducted between September 1st and December 31st of 2012 at a closed prison of females in the province of Istanbul. The target population of the research is composed of 273 inmates at a closed prison in the province of Istanbul. The sample of the research is composed of 130 female inmates chosen with the method of purposive sampling staying at the closed prison of females at the application of the study who match the research criteria. The data collection form, relationship criteria questionnaire (RCQ) and attitudes of coping with stress inventory (ACSI) which are prepared by the researchers including the socio-demographic characteristics are employed in the study. The age average of the female inmates participated to the study was found to be 34.55 ± 9.223. It can be argued that the attachment styles and attitudes of coping with stress in female inmates were influenced from some of their socio-demographic characteristics. That the married ones and those who attend the activities were able to use more positive strategies, those who had lost one or both of their parents were displaying more obsessed attachment, and the participants were using coping strategies such as spirituality and religious methods are the results that could be derived from the study.

This study was performed in order to determine the effect of cerebral dominance in university students on entrepreneurship and assertiveness. The universe of the study consisted of all of the university students studying at the Bulent Ecevit University in the 2014-2015 academic year while the sample consisted of 1167 students from among those who agreed to participate in the study. Purpose: We aimed to examine the relationship between nurses’ views about mobile health applications and acceptance of mobile applications. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 321 nurses in a Health Practices and Research Center over the period March-July 2020. Data were collected with the “Personal Data Form” and the “Mobile Applications Acceptance Model (MAAM).” Results: Among the nurses in the study, 97.2% believed that mobile health applications should be put to more use in the hospitals. The total mean score of the nurses on MAAM was 124.69 ± 15.98, and the highest score (28.78 ± 3.23) among the subscales was in “Needs”. Nurses under the age of 30, those who worked in intensive care units, and those who owned a mobile device exhibited higher total mean scores on the MAAM (p < 0.05). The MAAM total mean scores were higher among those who thought MHA’s should be made more widespread (p < 0.04), who felt that MHA’s were effective in accessing individual health data (p < 0.001), who felt that using MHA’s was easy (p = 0.022), who believed that using MHA’s helped patients access health services without having to come to the hospital (p < 0.001) and who wanted to help patients obtain health services without coming to the hospital (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Opportunities should be created whereby nurses can use mobile health applications in the hospitals. If this can be achieved, there will be a faster and more improved provision of health services.

This exploratory qualitative study explores the experiences of COVID-19 patients in intensive care units and after discharge. Semi- structured telephone interviews were conducted with 18 COVID-19 patients admitted to and discharged from intensive care units between March and September in 2020. The themes of this study were determined as “feelings about the illness and intensive care,” “psychological and physical damages,” “nurses’ efforts and the importance of care.”, and “protecting health and life”. COVID-19 patients in intensive care units may experience permanent physical and psychological damages. The findings suggest that the first step in carrying out interventions in the intensive care units is to ensure that continuous communication with patients is maintained so that their orientation to the new circumstances can be achieved. Nursing interventions to patients missing their families can have compensated for the loss of family support and care during their critical illness.

Sexual development is a difficult issue for individuals with intellectual disabilities, whether children or not. Children with adolescent disability may need help with hygiene and behavioral control due to the hormonal structure that changes with sexual development. Children with intellectual disabilities think that the behaviors they display are normal and insufficient to interpret and interpret others' approaches. These children cannot share their difficulties about sexual development, their knowledge and experiences and controlling their sexual behavior with their family, environment and peers. Both the child and the family may have difficulties in coping with the behaviors and problems they exhibit regarding the sexual development of the child. Considering that children with mental disabilities are more vulnerable to neglect and exploitation, studies on the sexual development of these children gain more importance. This article was written to highlight the importance of both family and child education on sexual development in adolescent children with mental disabilities., Çocuk olsun ya da olmasın zihinsel yetersizliği olan bireyler için cinsel gelişim zor bir konudur. Zihinsel yetersizliği olan ergenlik dönemindeki çocuklar cinsel gelişimiyle değişen hormonal yapı nedeniyle hijyen ve davranış kontrolü gibi konularda yardıma ihtiyaç duyabilmektedir. Zihinsel yetersizliği olan çocuklar sergiledikleri davranışların normal olduğunu düşünmekte ve başkalarının yaklaşımlarını anlamlandırmak ve yorumlamakta yetersiz kalabilmektedir. Bu çocuklar cinsel gelişim hakkında, bilgi ve deneyimlerini ve cinsel davranışlarını kontrol etme konusunda yaşadıkları zorlukları ailesi, çevresi ve akranları ile paylaşamamaktadır. Hem çocuk hem de aile, çocuğun cinsel gelişimi ile ilgili sergiledikleri davranışlar ve yaşadıkları sorunlar ile baş etmede güçlük çekebilmektedir. Zihinsel yetersizliği olan çocukların ihmal ve istimara daha açık olduğu da düşünüldüğünde bu çocukların cinsel gelişimi üzerine yapılacak çalışmalar daha da önem kazanmaktadır. Bu makale, zihinsel yetersizliği olan adölesan dönemdeki çocuklarda cinsel gelişime ilişkin hem aile hem de çocuğa sağlanacak eğitimlerin önemini vurgulanmak amacıyla yazıldı.

Objective: This study aims to assess the relationship between marital adjustment and paternal-infant attachment.Methods: This descriptive-cross sectional study was conducted between March and April 2017. No sampling was performed, the study wasconducted with 110 fathers who could be accessed between the aforementioned dates and who had babies aged between 0 to 12 monthsold. Questionnaires were asked fathers by researchers.The outcome measurements: Socio-demographic Information Form, Marital AdjustmentTest, and PIAQ. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 13.0 program.Results: Fathers’ MAT mean score was found 44.182±5.17, and PIAQ mean score was found 77.935±8.08. There was a positive, weak, butsignificant relationship between MAT and PIAQ (r=0.25; p=0.009). Marital adjustment scores were found to increase with the increase in“patience”, “tolerance”, and “pleasure in interaction” subscale scores. Bu calisma Romanlarin kronik hastalik durumlarini ve saglikla iliskili yasam kalitesini (HQOL) etkileyen sosyodemografik ozelliklerini incelemek amaciyla planlanmistir. Gerec ve Yontem: Kesitsel tipteki bu calisma 1 Subat-30 Nisan 2015 tarihleri arasinda Zonguldak ilinde Karaelmas Aile Sagligi Merkezi’ne basvuran 317 Roman uzerinde yapilmistir. 18 yas ve ustu olan, iletisim engeli olmayan ve calismaya katilmaya istekli Romanlar arastirmaya dahil edilmistir. This study was performed to determine the knowledge, attitude and behaviors of the mothers of 10-15 year old daughters regarding cervical cancer and HPV vaccination. This was a descriptive and sectional study. 100 mothers among the ones who admitted to the polyclinic to a university hospital who approved to participate in the study were included in the study. Data collection form was prepared by the researcher and collected by face-to-face interview technique. Chi-Square test was used in statistical analyse. It was observed that 47% of the mothers have not heard about HPV but about 67% of mothers HPV vaccination. It was seen that 91% have known that HPV caused cervical cancer and 88% of the mothers have heard pap smear test, but 56% have not undergone the test. 88% of the mothers have heard pap smear test, but 56% have not undergone the test. 15% of the mothers wanted to be informed about the reliability, 9% of side effects, 14% protection level and 12% of protection duration of the vaccine. When education status of the mothers and whether they give information to their children about health issues were examined, it was increased about hearing HPV vaccine and there was a signifant difference about giving knowledge rate their children. And also, there was a significant difference about giving knowledge, especially general health status, and knowledge level of mothers who were working. In conclusion, it should be provided to plan and disseminate education programs for the mothers about cervical cancer, HPV and HPV vaccine. Arastirmaya bir universite hastanesinin poliklinigine basvuran ve 10-15 yas arasi kiz cocugu olan 100 anne alindi. Veriler arastirmaci tarafindan hazirlanan katilimci bilgi formuyla yuz yuze gorusme yontemiyle toplandi. Istatiksel analizde ki-kare testi kullanildi. Annelerin %47’sinin HPV enfeksiyonunu daha once duymadigi ancak %67’sinin HPV asisini daha once duydugu goruldu. Annelerin %91’inin HPV’ nin rahim agzi kanserine neden oldugunu bildigi gorulurken, %88’inin rahim agzi kanserini ve papsmear testini duydugu, ancak %56’sinin pap smear testini yaptirmadigi belirlendi. Annelerin %15’i asinin guvenilirligi, %9’u yan etkileri, %14’u koruyuculuk duzeyi, %12’si koruma suresi hakkinda bilgilendirilmek istedigini ifade etti. Annelerin egitim durumlarina gore cocuklarina saglik konusunda bilgi verip vermediklerine bakildiginda annelerin egitim seviyesi arttikca HPV asisini duyma oranlarinin artisi ve cocuklarini bilgilendirme oranlari arasinda istatistiksel olarak anlamli fark saptanmistir. Calisan annelerin ozellikle genel saglik ile ilgili konularda bilgi verme ve HPV ile ilgili bilgi durumlari arasinda da anlamli fark bulunmustur. Sonuc olarak, annelere rahim agzi kanseri, HPV ve HPV asisi ile ilgili egitim programlarinin planlanmasi ve bilgi durumlarinin artmasi icin de yayginlastirilmasi onerilmektedir.

Background : Obesity is a prevalent and worldwide health problem . The most common weight loss method preferred by obese individuals is dietary supplements. This study was performed in order to determine the dietary supplements used by obese individuals for weight loss and to examine the barriers to informing health personnel on supplement use. Materials and Methods : This descriptive study was performed in the Endocrinology and Diabetes Polyclinic at the Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Department of the Health Application and Research Center of the Bulent Ecevit University. The sample consisted of 151 patients randomly selected from among the 755 people using the simple randomization method. The aim of this study was to determine the risky health behaviors and to raise the awareness of adolescents (attending high school education) about prevention of risky behaviors and solutions by the effect of module-based training courses (about reproductive health and birth control, sexually transmitted infections, harmful habits, psychosocial behavior). Being planned as cross-sectional, this study was performed between September 2013-June 2014 in three states and a private high school in Zonguldak and conducted with a group of students aged between 14 and 19.926 students have participated before the training and 534 students have participated after training. It was seen that the mean scores of ‘The Adolescent Risk-Taking Questionnaire', ‘The Adolescent's Attitudes Towards Violence Scale' and ‘taking risk about social status', ‘traffic', ‘subtance use' subscales have decreased after the risk prevention trainings. The means scores of ‘Adolescent Coping with Problems Scale', ‘Nutrition Behaviour Scale' and ‘Nutrition Attitude Scale' have raised. Hence, the scores of domains reflecting adolescent health perception such as hygiene, sleep and exercise have raised while the scores of somatic symptoms domain, such as abdominal pain, headache, and fatigue have been failed. Consequently, it was determined that the training courses about risky health behaviours were effective in preventing risky health behaviors and creating positive health perceptions of adolescents.

This descriptive study was carried out in order to determine the knowledge levels and attitudes of doctors and nurses regarding children’s sexual development and sex education. The study was conducted with doctors and nurses who work at various clinics of two state hospitals located in the province of Istanbul. The data collection tool consisted of 58 questions. The Statistical Program for the Social Sciences, version 18.0 (SPSS 18.0) was used for data analysis. It was determined that females comprised the majority of the respondents (61 %) and were over 36 years of age (54.1 %) (37.81 ± 8.82). Of the participants in the study, 63.5 % had bachelor’s degrees and 62.1 % were medical doctors. It was determined that the number of correct responses given by the respondents regarding some behaviors observed in children aged between 3 and 6 years and children’s sexual development and sex education showed significant differences according to age group (p = 0.007), marital status (p = 0.004), the status of having children (p = 0.004), educational status (p = 0.005) and occupation (p = 0.000). However, in a review of the study findings, it was observed that culture had an important impact on sex-related approaches and that embarrassment and shyness is very common. © 2015, The Author(s).

Chronic illness is defined as follows: “aberration or anomaly, a situation in which the patient may be left with permanent disability with no chances of recovery, where the patient is required to be treated for a long period of time, and maintained under constant supervision that would necessitate special training in terms of rehabilitation”. It is possible to obtain beneficial results in different areas in the case where children afflicted with chronic illnesses are treated via art therapy. Traditional Marbling art presents us not only with visual grace but with interesting beauties from the micro and macro realms unseen by the naked eye as well. Furthermore, therapeutic healing power of marbling art is incontestable. Each marbling art that is created is differs from one another; this means that for children endowed with different features, then each marbling art shall constitute a different experience for each child. Araştırma, hemşirelik bölümüöğrencilerinde anksiyete durumunun kariyer kararı yetkinlik beklentisineetkisinin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Tanımlayıcı ve analitiknitelikteki araştırmanın örneklemini 2017-2018 eğitim öğretim yılındahemşirelik bölümü 3.ve 4. sınıfta öğrenim gören 300 öğrenci oluşturmuştur.Veriler “Anket Formu”, “Sürekli ve Durumluk Anksiyete Ölçeği” ve “KariyerKararı Yetkinlik Beklentisi Ölçeği” ile elde edilmiştir. The study was made to determine violence experienced by nurse students in clinical settings. It was applied to the School of Health Nursing Student of a university during a week in June, 2010. There were 360 students, 53 of whom were senior, 60 of whom were thirdyear, 114 of whom were sophomore, 79 of whom were first-year and 102 of whom were prep-school students, at the school. Students in preparatory classes were not included in the scope of the study since they didn't take applied courses. 70,58% of the students were reached. It was determined that the students were often exposed to verbal abuse and sexism in clinical setting and the abuse was performed by their colleagues.

Aim: This study was conducted in order to determine the experiences of students in the pediatric oncology clinic. Material and Methods: The study was performed between March and May 2014 in the Health Vocational School of a university. The universeof the study consisted of 30 students who were in their junior year in the 2013 2014 academic year and who chose “pediatric oncology nursing” as a selective course. The study was conducted via in depth interviews with 14 students who chose this course and volunteered to participate in the study. A semi structured questionnaire was used in the interviews. Results: In the study, a majority of the students stated that they experienced nervousness, fear, and anxiety before first entering the service, that they had difficulties communicating with children and their families, and that this was especially the case when talking to both children and families about the disease. They stated that they had insufficient knowledge on approaching a child with cancer and his/her family, and all of the students stated that they were deeply affected by the intervention processes applied to the children. They also stated that, compared to other pediatric services, they thought that the communications of the doctors and nurses in the service were better with the children and their families. Conclusion: A need for developing the communication skills of the students for communicating with cancer patients and their families was determined. Their qualifications are suggested to be raised through trainings on the subject, and interactive environments where they can state the cases where they have difficulties are suggested to be formed., Amaç: Çalışma hemşirelik öğrencilerinin çocukonkoloji kliniğindeki deneyimlerini belirlemek amacıy­la yapılmıştır. Gereçve Yöntem: Çalışma Mart-Mayıs 2014 tarihleri arasında birüniversitenin Sağlık Yüksekokulu’nda gerçekleştirildi. Servisteki hekim ve hemşirelerin aile ve çocukla iletişimlerinin diğerçocuk servisleri ile kıyasladıklarında çok iyi olduğunu ifade etti. Sonuç:Öğrencilerin kanserli hasta ve ailesiyle iletişimbecerilerinin geliştirilmesinin gerekli olduğu belirlenmiştir. Background: While both the proportion of infants exclusively fed breast milk and the duration of suckling increased worldwide and in Turkey, the addition of another product to breast milk in the first six months of the infant's life is still widespread.Materials and Methods: This study was conducted as a descriptive, cross-sectional study to identify the traditional methods intending to increase breast milk in pregnancy. The sample group consisted of 100 pregnant women in their last trimester who visited the obstetrical outpatient clinics of a State Hospital of Zonguldak. Data were collected on a data collection form during a face to face interview.Results: The methods for increasing lactation in pregnant women that the subjects had heard about consisted of the ingestion of abundant water and fluid food (94.0%), green leafy vegetables (such as lettuce) (38%), sweet foods (26%) and milk or other dairy items (19%). Of the pregnant women questioned, 19.0% declared that they would not do anything in particular to increase their milk, 33% that they would drink more fluids, 14% that they would ingest apricot compost and 12% herbal teas. No significant differences among groups were detected between age, educational status, family type, parity and live children number on one side and the subjects' planning to use special foods or fluids (p>0.05).Conclusion: The subjects believed that in addition to an abundant consumption of water and fluid foods, seen as essential, eating green leafy vegetables, chiefly lettuce, and a particular type of sesame halva would increase lactation.Keywords: Breast feeding, galactagogues, traditional methods, traditional knowledge

Materials and Methods: The study, of cross-sectional design, was conducted with the parents of 101 children diagnosed with cancer, using a questionnaire and the technique of face-to-face interviews. Mean scores, percentages, chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used in the statistical analysis. During the study, interviews were held with 42.6% of the children's mothers and with the fathers of 44.6%. Results: The mean age of the children was 8.66±4.52 years. A group of 33.7% of the parents was making use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for their children. Of the parents, 76.5% stated that CAM had been instrumental in reducing a tumor, 53.8% said that their child's general condition had improved and 15.4% expressed an increase in morale. Another 41.2% concealed their use of CAM from their doctors and nurses. The parents that were interviewed: the age of the mother, the age of the father and the family's economic status were determining factors in the parents' use of CAM. The prevalence of the use of CAM among parents with children with cancer is not negligible. Akut Lenfoblastik Lösemili (ALL) çocuklarda vücut fonksiyon bozuklukları ve aktivite sınırlılıkları görülür. DergiPark: 73166 ejovoc Çalışma “A” Aile Sağlığı Merkezine bir ay içerisinde gelen pamukçuk enfeksiyonuna sahip 1-12 ay arası bebeklerin enfeksiyon nedenleri ve annelerin tedaviye yönelik kullandıkları geleneksel yöntemleri analiz etmek amacı ile tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın uygulama alanı olarak Doğu Karadeniz’de bulunan bir ile bağlı Aile Sağlığı Merkezi (ASM) belirlenmiştir. Araştırmaya 1 Eylül-1 Ekim 2011 tarihleri arasında, bu merkeze başvuran,1-12 aylık bebeklerindeki pamukçuk enfeksiyonu şikayeti ile gelen anneler alınmıştır. Belirlenen tarihler arasında 166 anne çeşitli nedenlerle (aşı, kontrol, hastalık) ASM’ye gelmiş olup, bunlardan 47 annenin çocuğu pamukçuk enfeksiyonu şikayeti ile tedavi almışlardır. Çalışmada yer alan kadınların yaş ortalaması 32±5.3 olup, %51.1’i ilkokul mezunu, %97’si çalışmamaktadır. Annelerin %51.1’inin sütyen kullandığı, %68.1’inin en az bir meme ucu çatlağı olduğu, %59.6’sının emzirmede sıkıntı yaşadığı, %23.4’ünün meme temizliğini su ile yaptığı, %42.6’sının oturarak banyo yaptığı, %42.5’inin bebek çamaşırlarını ayırmadan çamaşırlarını makinede yıkadığı ve %59.3’ünün yıkamada deterjan kullandığı tespit edilmiştir. The study utilized an interview format to examine the difficulties experienced by mothers of children with cerebral palsy. Interviews were conducted in the province of Zonguldak between December 2013 and February 2014, Turkey, at a special rehabilitation center with 15 children with cerebral palsy and their mothers registered at the center. A voice recorder was used during the interviews, but since the mothers expressed their unwillingness to have their voices recorded during the interviews when they talked about their sexual lives, face to face interviews were held in a suitable physical environment without the use of a recorder. A semi-structured questionnaire was used during the interviews. The couples are troubled with many difficulties that include personal relations, social and economic problems, as well as issues involving the sick child’s care and education. In connection with these difficulties, it was also seen that the situation took a toll on the sexual lives of parents. Background: Obesity is an energy metabolism disorder which results in the excessive storage of fat and may also lead to physical and psychological problems. Since the 1980s, obesity has drastically increased across all age and socio-economic groups around the world.Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the risk factors affecting obesity in students in the age group of 6-15 years.Patients and Methods: This was a population-based cross-sectional study on 868 students in Bahçelievler elementary school in Zonguldak, Turkey from March to April in 2010. Data was collected using demographic questionary forms and weight-length measurements.Results: The median age was 10.3 ± 2.1; 47.6% of the children were female and 52.4% of them were male. About 70.2% of the students consumed fast food. It was identified that 67.1% of the students in the 6-10-year age group and 32.9% in 11-15-year age group were obese (P = 0.000). The obesity prevalence of children with one or two siblings was higher than the ones with more than two siblings (P = 0.001).Conclusions: The study concluded that there were certain criteria related to development of obesity during a specific period of childhood and taking certain precautions could be effective in preventing it. © 2014, Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal.

Introduction: As in developed countries all over the world, the internet is also utilized in developing countries in all educational activities to increase the students’ interest and motivation at class, achieve permanence of knowledge, and keep pace with technologic developments. The purpose of this study was to determine the unethical behaviors of high school students in terms of internet use in the field of information technology as well as the factors that influence these behaviors. Materials and Methods: This study was population-based cross-sectional study. Research data were collected between February 13th and June 30th of 2012. The universe of research consisted of 900 students studying at five different high schools located in Zonguldak, Turkey, whereas 643 students (86 girls, 557 boys) constituted the actual sampling. The data collection forms, which we utilized for the purposes of this research, consisted of two separate sections, namely the “Personal Data Form” made up of questions about the students’ personal data and the “Unethical Use of Information Technologies Scale”. In the data collection process, face-to-face interviews were conducted with the students in their school. Results: The average total score of the scale was determined as 103,70±43,71. We found that the students scored highest in the field of intellectual property (29,16±13,89), whereas the lowest scores could be observed in the sub-aspect of security and quality (21,91±10,10). A significant difference could be ascertained between the information accuracy factor and the students’ age. We discovered that the students’ behaviors in terms of information technologies usage differed significantly according to the students’ age, the class and branch they study, their weekly internet usage time, and the place they lived in. Conclusion: The students’ age is influential on their unethical use of information technologies. Along with basic computer training, teachers are supposed to raise the students’ awareness with regard to ethical issues that arise from computer technologies and are of particular concern to the society, and teach them how they should act in terms of ethical problems.

AIM: This study was conducted with elementary school students, 10-14 years of age, for the purpose of determining their problem-solving skills. METHOD: The study was carried out at an elementary school located in the provincial center of Zonguldak with a group of pupils, ages 10-14. The research was designed as a descriptive study; data was collected over the period April-May 2011. A group of 312 children were included in the study, all of them being in attendance at the elementary school where the study took place on the days on which data was collected.
