Reduced kidney AMPK activity is associated with nutrient stress–induced chronic kidney disease (CKD) in male mice. In contrast, female mice resist nutrient stress–induced CKD. The role of kidney AMPK in sex-related organ protection against nutrient stress and metabolite changes was evaluated in diabetic kidney tubule–specific AMPKγ2KO (KTAMPKγ2ΚΟ) male and female mice. In wild-type (WT) males, diabetes increased albuminuria, urinary kidney injury molecule-1, hypertension, kidney p70S6K phosphorylation, and kidney matrix accumulation; these features were not exacerbated with KTAMPKγ2ΚΟ. Whereas WT females had protection against diabetes-induced kidney injury, KTAMPKγ2ΚΟ led to loss of female protection against kidney disease. The hormone 17β-estradiol ameliorated high glucose–induced AMPK inactivation, p70S6K phosphorylation, and matrix protein accumulation in kidney tubule cells. The mechanism for female protection against diabetes-induced kidney injury is likely via an estrogen-AMPK pathway, as inhibition of AMPK led to loss of estrogen protection to glucose-induced mTORC1 activation and matrix production. RNA sequencing and metabolomic analysis identified a decrease in the degradation pathway of phenylalanine and tyrosine resulting in increased urinary phenylalanine and tyrosine levels in females. The metabolite levels correlated with loss of female protection. The findings provide new insights to explain evolutionary advantages to females during states of nutrient challenges. In the present studies, genetic deletion of kidney tubule–specific gamma subunit of AMPK led to loss of female protection against diabetic kidney injury along with dysregulation of phenylalanine and tyrosine degradation. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third most common cancer worldwide, and invasion and metastasis are the leading causes of death. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), a kind of traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used in cancer therapy. Cell Counting Kit-8, tube formation, and Transwell analyses were performed to determine cell proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) under the treatment of Hep3B or SK-Hep1 cells-derived exosomes or Hep3B or SK-Hep1 cells with or without AS-IV treatment. Then, Rab27a overexpression in Hep3B cells was selected to determine the function of AS-IV on the regulation of cell proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis of HUVECs. Ultimately, the injection of Hep3B cell-derived exosomes or treatment with AS-IV on nude mice was used to comprehensively investigate AS-IV functions in vivo. Hep3B or SK-Hep1 cells promoted proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis of HUVECs, which were inhibited by AS-IV therapy. The concentrations of Hep3B and SK-Hep1 cells-derived exosomes were markedly reduced after AS-IV therapy. Meanwhile, Rab27a expression was significantly decreased in SK-Hep1 or Hep3B cells after AS-IV therapy, and it inhibited the effects of AS-IV on Hep3B-induced proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis of HUVECs. Tumor growth was also suppressed by AS-IV, which was accompanied by the decreased expression levels of Ki67 and CD34. Overall, this study demonstrated that AS-IV inhibits the effects of HCC cell-derived exosomes on proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis of HUVECs via inhibiting Rab27a expression. To our knowledge, this is the first study to explore the efficacy of AS-IV against HCC cell-induced proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis of HUVECs to reveal the underlying mechanism. In this study, CCK-8, Transwell, and tube formation assay detection show that AS-IV has an inhibitory effect on HCC cell-induced proliferation, invasion, and angiogenesis of HUVECs by inhibiting Rab27a, which helps in the development of novel nutraceutical/functional food against HCC progression and thus could improve the quality of life in patients with HCC. Background: Circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) has demonstrated robust diagnostic accuracy in several digestive cancers. However, the prognostic role of ctCDNA in gastric cancer (GC) is still controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of ctDNA in GC. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane databases were searched to identify studies reporting the use of ctDNA to predict GC outcome and all relevant studies published until November 2022 were enrolled for our analysis. Data were extracted by two authors independently and statistic analysis was conducted by R program with 'meta' and 'metafor' packages. Results: A total of 34 qualified articles with 5091 subjects were incorporated into our meta-analysis. The corresponding Hazard ratio (HR) of overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were 2.74 (95% CI:2.24–3.35), 3.13 (95% CI:2.08–4.72) and 3.04 (95% CI:2.46–3.76), respectively, in GC patients. Conclusion: Blood-based ctDNA assay would be a potential novel biomarker for GC evaluation and prediction. (1) Background: The accurate diagnosis of esophageal strictures is quite critical for optimizing medical intervention. However, the diagnosis of suspicious malignant esophageal strictures with intact mucosa appearance and negative biopsy results is challenging. This study aimed to evaluate the role of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) in the diagnosis of suspicious esophageal strictures. (2) Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the cases with suspicious malignant esophageal strictures that underwent EUS-FNA, with or without rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE), in our hospital from April 2017 to September 2022. Their clinical manifestations, imaging examinations, gastroscopic examinations, EUS-FNA results, and therapeutic strategies were retrospectively recorded and analyzed. (3) Results: A total of 23 patients (15 male and 8 female) were enrolled in this study. Based on EUS-FNA results, 18 patients were diagnosed with malignancies, including 16 cases of primary esophageal cancer (13 squamous carcinomas and 3 adenocarcinomas), 1 case of mediastinal cancer, and 1 case of metastatic esophageal cancer; 1 case of tuberculosis was also confirmed by EUS-FNA. Among 4 cases of ambiguous diagnosis with EUS-FNA, 1 was diagnosed with an esophageal glomus tumor after surgical removal, and 2 patients survived for several years without medical intervention, which hinted at the possibility of benign esophageal strictures. No major complications, including bleeding or perforation, were observed. (4) Conclusions: EUS-FNA may serve as a safe and effective diagnostic tool in suspicious malignant esophageal strictures with accurate specimen acquisition, especially for biopsy-negative cases. (1) Background: Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) has emerged as a promising biomarker for many kinds of tumors. However, whether ctDNA could be an accurate diagnostic biomarker in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains to be clarified. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of ctDNA in CRC. (2) Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases were searched to identify studies reporting the use of ctDNA to screen and diagnose CRC, and all relevant studies published until October 2022 were enrolled for our analysis. These studies were divided into three primer subgroups: the subgroup of quantitative or qualitative analysis of ctDNA and the subgroup of septin9 (SEPT9) methylation assay. (3) Results: A total of 79 qualified articles with 25,240 subjects were incorporated into our meta-analysis. For quantitative studies, the combined sensitivity (SEN), specificity (SPE), and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) were 0.723 (95% CI: 0.623–0.803), 0.920 (95% CI: 0.827–0.966), and 23.305 (95% CI: 9.378–57.906), respectively, yielding an AUC of 0.860. The corresponding values for qualitative studies were 0.610 (95% CI: 0.566–0.651), 0.891 (95% CI: 0.878–0.909), 12.569 (95% CI: 9.969–15.848), and 0.823, respectively. Detection of SEPT9 methylation depicted an AUC of 0.879, with an SEN of 0.679 (95% CI: 0.622–0.732), an SPE of 0.903 (95% CI: 0.878–0.923), and a DOR of 20.121 (95% CI:14.404–28.106), respectively. (4) Conclusion: Blood-based ctDNA assay would be a potential novel biomarker for CRC screening and diagnosis. Specifically, quantitative analysis of ctDNA or qualitative analysis of SEPT9 methylation exhibited satisfying diagnostic efficiency. Photoconductive antenna (PCA) is one of the most widely used terahertz (THz) devices nowadays. Although PCAs have been extensively studied through both theoretical analysis and device design, there still lacks a common agreement upon the mechanism of THz radiation. One of the central questions is how to distinguish and assess the contribution of the antenna structure and in-gap photocurrent to the overall radiation of a PCA. In this work, a three-dimensional full-wave model was first used to quantify the overall far-field radiation of PCAs. The commercial solver (i.e., HFSS) and the Hertzian dipole approximation method were then applied to quantify the far-field radiation solely from the antenna structure and in-gap photocurrent, respectively. The contribution of the antenna structure and in-gap photocurrent can therefore be distinguished by comparing the simulation results among the three methods. The results suggest that, although the THz radiation originates from laser-excited photocurrent within the gap, the overall THz radiation of a PCA is predominated by the antenna structure. As a validation, the cancellation effect was predicated by numerical simulation of coplanar stripline PCA and confirmed with experiment using butterfly shaped stripline PCA. The presented work uncovers the details of the underlying radiation mechanism of the PCA. During the Covid-19 lockdown from the end of January to March 2020, museums in China were forced to temporarily close, consequently devoting more attention to online activities. Apart from official websites, many museums increased their online activities on China-based video livestreaming platforms such as Kuaishou, Douyin and Bilibili, etc., as well as on the audio livestreaming platform Himalayan. Other online activities were carried out via social media and e-commerce platforms including WeChat, Vlog, Taobao, Tianmao, Jingdong, Meituan and Tencent. Shaanxi History Museum (SHM) represents one of the typical examples of cultural institutions that bolstered their online activities during the pandemic. This article explores the effects of Chinese museums' livestreaming activities, which constituted the core of their online initiatives during the pandemic. By reviewing different types of livestreaming activities carried out by museums, as well as conducting online surveys, face-to-face interviews and analysing data surrounding the Shaanxi History Museum, it will critically discuss the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese museums' livestreaming activities, with potential implications for museums in China and worldwide. Ultimately, it suggests that Chinese museums' development of online activities relies on applying a systematic, diversified and digitalisation-driven communication strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Main observation and conclusion: This paper describes the first case of a reductive coupling reaction with indene, a non‐heteroatom olefin used as a reducing agent. The scope of the substrate is wide. The homo‐coupling, cross‐coupling, and synthesis of 12 and 14‐membered rings were realized. The control experiment, indene‐product curve and density functional theory calculations showed that the η3‐palladium indene intermediate was formed by C—H activation in the presence of cesium carbonate. We speculate that the final product was obtained through a Pd (IV) intermediate or aryl ligand exchange. In addition, we excluded the formation of palladium anion (Pd(0)−) intermediates. Ionic liquids having a sufficiently amphiphilic cation can dissolve large volume fractions of alkanes, leading to mixtures with intriguing properties on molecular length scales. The trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium cation paired with the bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide anion provides an ionic liquid that can dissolve large mole fractions of hexane. We present experimental results on mixtures of n-C6D14 with this ionic liquid. High-energy X-ray scattering studies reveal a persistence of the characteristic features of ionic liquid structure even for 80% dilution with n-C6D14. Nuclear magnetic resonance self-diffusion results reveal decidedly non-hydrodynamic behavior where the self-diffusion of the neutral, non-polar n-C6D14 is on average a factor of 21 times faster than for the cation. Exploitation of the unique structural and transport properties of these mixtures may lead to new opportunities for designer solvents for enhanced chemical reactivity and interface science. We explore in numerical simulation the degree to which the thermal emission in the mid-infrared (IR) range can be controlled using a lattice of plasmonic spheres. While it has been shown that a great deal of spectral control can be achieved using a single sphere, obviously no directional control exists. We propose gaining this additional directional control over the thermal emission by designing a 2D lattice of resonant spheres. In this paper, we demonstrate that directional control as well as additionally spectral control over the thermal emission is achieved with this method. We do this by simulating a 2D layer of spheres composed of SiO2 cores and a SiC shells with a polaritonic resonance in the mid-IR. We then analyze how changing the lattice geometry affects the thermal emission characteristics of the ensemble of spheres. We show that for closely spaced spheres, modest directional control is possible with the additional benefit of some spectral control. When the spheres are spaced farther apart, Bragg scattering allows for more directional control, however, the spectrum of the emission is mostly governed by the properties of a single sphere. Two oxidovanadium(V) complexes, [VOL1L] (1) and [VOL2L] (2) (L = ethyl maltolate), derived from the aroylhydrazones 4-bromo-N’-(2-hydroxy-5-methylbenzylidene)benzohydrazide (H2L1) and N’-(3,5-dibromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-methoxybenzohydrazide (H2L2), respectively, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared and electronic spectroscopy. Structures of the complexes were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray determination. The V atoms in the complexes are coordinated by the ONO donor atoms of the aroylhydrazone ligand, OO donor atoms of the ethyl maltolate ligand, and one oxido O atom, forming octahedral coordination. Fungi from unique environments exhibit special physiological characters and plenty of bioactive natural products. However, the recalcitrant genetics or poor transformation efficiencies prevent scientists from systematically studying molecular biological mechanisms and exploiting their metabolites. In this study, we targeted a guanophilic fungus Amphichorda guana LC5815 and developed a genetic transformation system. We firstly established an efficient protoplast preparing method by conditional optimization of sporulation and protoplast regeneration. The regeneration rate of the protoplast is up to about 34.6% with 0.8 M sucrose as the osmotic pressure stabilizer. To develop the genetic transformation, we used the polyethylene glycol-mediated protoplast transformation, and the testing gene AG04914 encoding a major facilitator superfamily transporter was deleted in strain LC5815, which proves the feasibility of this genetic manipulation system. Furthermore, a uridine/uracil auxotrophic strain was created by using a positive screening protocol with 5- fluoroorotic acid as a selective reagent. Finally, the genetic transformation system was successfully established in the guanophilic fungus strain LC5815, which lays the foundation for the molecular genetics research and will facilitate the exploitation of bioactive secondary metabolites in fungi. The aim of the present study was to analyze the effects of two arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), Funneliformis mosseae and Paraglomus occultum, on leaf water status, root morphology, root sugar accumulation, root abscisic acid (ABA) levels, root malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and root antioxidant enzyme activities in white clover ( Trifolium repens L.) exposed to well-watered (WW) and drought stress (DS) conditions. The results showed that root colonization by F. mosseae and P. occultum was significantly decreased by 7-week soil drought treatment. Under drought stress conditions, mycorrhizal fungal treatment considerably stimulated root total length, surface area and volume, as compared with non-mycorrhizal controls. In addition, inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi also increased leaf relative water content and accelerated the accumulation of root glucose and fructose under drought stress. Mycorrhizal plants under drought stress registered higher activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) and ABA levels in roots, while lower MDA contents, relative to non-mycorrhizal plants. As a result, mycorrhiza-inoculated plants represented better physiological activities (e.g. antioxidant defense systems, root morphology, and sugar accumulation) than non-inoculated plants in response to soil drought, whilst P. occultum had superior effects than F. mosseae. A numerical modeling method to reproduce the structures of needle-punched nonwoven geotextile based on the actual manufacturing process (web formation and web bonding) was developed. The geotextile model was built based on the statistical characteristics of the computed tomography (CT) observations, physical and mechanical properties of fibers, and physical parameters of the geotextile. A combination of the finite element model and pore network model method was proposed to obtain the pore size characteristics. The appearance and pore size characteristics before and under uniaxial tensile strains were investigated. It is shown that the method can simulate the geotextile manufacturing process satisfactorily. The pore size distribution (PSD) curves obtained from the model show good agreement with the CT-based results. Moreover, the method can reasonably simulate the tensile behaviors of geotextile under uniaxial tensile strain. The specimen necking phenomenon during the uniaxial tensile test was well reproduced. The PSD curves moved towards the direction of larger pore size with increasing uniaxial strain, and characteristic pore sizes (O 98 , O 95 , O 50 , O 30 , O 10) all show a relatively steady increasing trend. • The structures of nonwoven geotextiles are reproduced by numerical simulation of the actual preparing process (web formation and web bonding). • A FEM-PNM method was proposed to obtain the pore size characteristics of the geotextile model. • The PSD curves obtained from the numerical model show a good agreement with the experimental results based on CT. • The specimen necking phenomenon during the uniaxial tensile test was well reproduced. • The PSD curves moved towards the direction of larger pore size with uniaxial strain, and characteristic pore sizes all show an increasing trend. The transcription factor Woolly (Wo) and its downstream gene CycB2 have been shown to regulate trichome development in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). It has been demonstrated that only the gain-of-function allele of Slwo (SlWo V , the Slwo woolly motif mutant allele) can increase the trichome density; however, it remains unclear why the two alleles function differently in trichome development. In this study, we used Nicotiana benthamiana as a model and cloned the homologues of Slwo and SlCycB2 (named Nbwo and NbCycB2). We also constructed a Nbwo gain-of-function allele with the same mutation site as SlWo V (named NbWo V ). We found that both Nbwo and NbWoV directly regulate NbCycB2 and their own expression by binding to the promoter of NbCycB2 and their own genomic sequences. As form of a feedback regulation, NbCycB2 negatively regulates trichome formation by repressing Nbwo activity at the protein level. We also found that mutations in the Nbwo woolly motif can prevent repression of NbWoV by NbCycB2, which results in a significant increase in the amount of active Nbwo proteins and in increases in trichome density and the number of branches. A pair of new oxidovanadium(V) complexes, [VOL1L]TAO83;EtOH (1) and [VOL2L]TAO83;EtOH (2) (L = acetohydroxamate), derived from the aroylhydrazones N'-(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-methoxybenzohydrazide (H2L1) and N'-(5-bromo- 2-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-methylbenzohydrazide (H2L2), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal structural X-ray diffraction. The complexes have octahedral structures in which the aroylhydrazone ligands behave as binegative donors. Single-crystal structure analyses reveal that the V centers are coordinated by the donor atoms of the aroylhydrazone ligands, the acetohydroxamate ligands and the oxido groups. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of high-dose atorvastatin on the prevention of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous intervention and observe the incidence of cystatin C (CyC)-based CIN. A total of 496 patients with ACS were randomly assigned to either the control group (247 patients receiving conventional dose atorvastatin 10 mg daily from 1 day before to 3 days after contrast administration) or the high-dose atorvastatin group (249 patients receiving atorvastatin 40 mg daily for the same perioperative period). The baseline characteristics of the 2 groups were similar. The primary end point of serum creatinine (SCr)-based CIN occurred in 31 patients in the control group and 16 patients in the high-dose atorvastatin group (12.6% vs 6.4%; P = .02). Cystatin C-based CIN developed in 90 patients in the control group and 46 patients in the high-dose atorvastatin group (36.4% vs 18.5%; P < .001). A multivariable analysis revealed that high-dose atorvastatin was independently associated with a decreased risk of CIN. Our study demonstrated that prophylactic treatment with high-dose atorvastatin reduced the risk of both SCr and CyC-based CIN and suggested that CyC was a more reliable marker for early diagnosis of CIN compared with SCr. A maskless interference device with a waveguide coated thin metal film is investigated for surface-plasmon polaritons interference lithography (SPPIL) in this paper. The focal depth of interference fringes in the resist is modulated obviously by the thicknesses of the waveguide and the metal film, which will solve the question of short exposure depth for conventional SPPIL, and improve the practicability of SPPIL. A new type of magnetic metal chelating carrier (PCMM-IDA-Cu 2+ ) was prepared for the immobilization of papain, using chitosan as raw material, nano Fe 3 O 4 as magnetic material, SiO 2 as porogen, iminodiacetic acid (IDA) as a chelating ligand, and binding with transition metal ion (Cu 2+ ). The resulting products were well characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The BBD (Box-Behnken Design) of RSM (Response Surface Methodology) was applied to analyze the optimum enzyme immobilization conditions. The results showed that the enzyme immobilization capacity was 94.18 mg/g of PCMM-IDA-Cu 2+ , with 7.976 U/mg of relative immobilized enzyme activity under the optimum conditions (pH 6.73, 1.56 mg enzyme/15.0 mg carrier, 30.9 °C), and the recovery of enzyme activity was reached 87.21%. Compared with the free papain, the immobilized papain displayed enhanced enzyme activity, superior enzymatic properties, good operational stability and reusability. It is worth mentioning that the novel carriers exhibited selectively biological adsorption capacity, and this technique is an alternative method for the immobilization of enzyme, making the process more efficient and economic. Recently, we have reported a systematic study of photoinduced electron-transfer reactions in ionic liquid solvents using neutral and anionic electron donors and a series of cyano-substituted anthracene acceptors [Wu, B.; Maroncelli, M.; Castner, E. W., Jr.Photoinduced Bimolecular Electron Transfer in Ionic Liquids. J. Am. Chem. Soc.139, 2017, 14568]. Herein, we report complementary results for a cationic class of 1-alkyl-4-dimethylaminopyridinium electron donors. Reductive quenching of cyano-substituted anthracene fluorophores by these cationic quenchers is studied in solutions of acetonitrile and the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide. Varying the length of the alkyl chain permits tuning of the quencher diffusivities in solution. The observed quenching kinetics are interpreted using a diffusion-reaction analysis. Together with results from the prior study, these results show that the intrinsic electron-transfer rate constant does not depend on the quencher charge in this family of reactions. Background. The effect of achieved blood pressure (BP) on first stroke and renal function decline among hypertensive patients with mild to moderate chronic kidney disease (CKD) is still uncertain. Methods. In total, 3230 hypertensive patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate 30-60 mL/min/1.73 m2 and/or proteinuria were included in the present analyses. Eligible participants were randomly assigned to a daily treatment of a combined enalapril 10mg and folic acid 0.8mg tablet or an enalapril 10mg tablet alone. Participants were followed up every 3months. The study outcomes included first stroke and the progression of CKD. Results. The median antihypertensive treatment duration was 4.7 years. Compared with participants with a time-averaged ontreatment systolic blood pressure (SBP) of 135 to-140mmHg, the incidence of total first stroke [1.7% versus 3.3%; hazard ratio (HR), 0.51; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.26-0.99] and ischemic stroke (1.3% versus 2.8%; HR, 0.46; 95% CI: 0.22-0.98) decreased significantly in those with a time-averaged SBP of-135mmHg. Furthermore, a time-averaged diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of-80mmHg, compared with a time-averaged DBP level of 80 to-90mmHg, was significantly related to a decreased risk of hemorrhagic stroke (0.2% versus 0.9%; HR, 0.18; 95% CI: 0.04-0.80). However, compared with participants with a time-averaged SBP of 135 to-140mmHg, a lower but non-significant trend of CKD progression was found in those with a time-averaged SBP of-130mmHg. Conclusions. A BP treatment level of-135/80mmHg, compared with a BP treatment level of 135-140/80-90mmHg, could lead to a decreased risk of first stroke in hypertensive patients with mild-to-moderate CKD. [Objectives] To use co-clustering analysis and visualization method to analyze the research on Siraitiae Fructus in recent ten yeas, to know the hot spots and trend of research. [Methods] Relevant research results about S. Fructus in CNKI from January of 2007 to December of 2016 were retrieved by computers, and the retrieval time was February 20, 2017. BICOMB, NetDraw, gCLUTO and SPSS19.0 software were used to conduct co-clustering analysis and visualization analysis for included articles. Keywords were analyzed, and social network graph, visualization matrix, peak image and multidimensional scaling analysis map were drawn. Correlation among high-frequency key words were analyzed. [Results] Totally 723 articles were included, among which 70 articles were issued during 2012-2016;76 key words were obtained by key word co-occurrence network map, among which mogroside, MOG, extraction process, tissue culture, cultivation technology, varieties, growth and development were in the core position; visualization and the peak image showed that the topics in this research field could be divided into 6 categories; research hotspot dynamic evolution showed that S. Fructus flower, beverage, total flavonoids, gene expression, gene cloning, enzyme, apoptosis, and S. Fructus seed oil would be the hot spots of further study. [Conclusions] This study reveals that the reseach on S. Fructus in the recent ten yeas is becoming mature, and expanding to deep level. In existing forecasting research papers support vector regression with chaotic mapping function and evolutionary algorithms have shown their advantages in terms of forecasting accuracy improvement. However, for classical particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms, trapping in local optima results in an earlier standstill of the particles and lost activities, thus, its core drawback is that eventually it produces low forecasting accuracy. To continue exploring possible improvements of the PSO algorithm, such as expanding the search space, this paper applies quantum mechanics to empower each particle to possess quantum behavior, to enlarge its search space, then, to improve the forecasting accuracy. This investigation presents a support vector regression (SVR)-based load forecasting model which hybridizes the chaotic mapping function and quantum particle swarm optimization algorithm with a support vector regression model, namely the SVRCQPSO (support vector regression with chaotic quantum particle swarm optimization) model, to achieve more accurate forecasting performance. The use of 5-guanosine monophosphate (GMP) with Sr2+ ions to form G-quadruplex bundles as supramolecular templates for the preparation of hierarchical mesoporous silica nanotube materials is reported here, and some mesopores with a diameter of 4–22 nm were obtained. Furthermore, some mesopore channels which run perpendicularly to the center axis of the tube and penetrate right through the outer wall of the nanotubes were achieved by removing the templates. Besides, porous hollow silica spheres were obtained by changing some of the reaction conditions during the process of preparation. Their structures are stable even after high temperature calcination. A formation mechanism was proposed and discussed, and their structures were characterized using a number of means including X-ray diffraction, IR spectra, N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). ABSTRACT Objective: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by Aβ plaques in the brain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel radiotracer, 4-[11C]methylamino-4′- N, N-dimethylaminoazobenzene ([11C]TAZA), for binding to Aβ plaques in postmortem human brain (AD and normal control (NC)). Methods: Radiosyntheses of [11C]TAZA, related [11C]Dalene (11C-methylamino-4′-dimethylaminostyrylbenzene), and reference [11C]PIB were carried out using [11C]methyltriflate prepared from [11C]CO2 and purified using HPLC. In vitro binding affinities were carried out in human AD brain homogenate with Aβ plaques labeled with [3H]PIB. In vitro autoradiography studies with the three radiotracers were performed on hippocampus of AD and NC brains. PET/CT studies were carried out in normal rats to study brain and whole body distribution. Results: The three radiotracers were produced in high radiochemical yields (>40%) and had specific activities >37 GBq/μmol. TAZA had an affinity, Ki = 0.84 nM and was five times more potent than PIB. [11C]TAZA bound specifically to Aβ plaques present in AD brains with gray matter to white matter ratios >20. [11C]TAZA was displaced by PIB (>90%), suggesting similar binding site for [11C]TAZA and [11C]PIB. [11C]TAZA exhibited slow kinetics of uptake in the rat brain and whole body images showed uptake in interscapular brown adipose tissue (IBAT). Binding in brain and IBAT were affected by preinjection of atomoxetine, a norepinephrine transporter blocker. Conclusion: [11C]TAZA exhibited high binding to Aβ plaques in human AD hippocampus. A novel dioxidomolybdenum complex, [MoO2L], derived from the tridentate aroylhydrazone 2-amino-N'-(2-hydroxy- 3-methylbenzylidene)benzohydrazide (H2L), has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR, and single crystal structural X-ray diffraction. The complex has distorted square pyramidal structure in which the aroylhydrazone ligand behaves as a binegative donor, leaving the amino-N group uncoordinated towards the metal center. Single crystal structure analysis reveals that the Mo(VI) center is coordinated by the donor atoms of the binegative aroylhydrazone ligand and two oxido groups. Crystal structure of the complex is stabilized by hydrogen bonds. The complex functions as an effective olefin epoxidation catalyst with hydrogen peroxide as terminal oxidant and sodium hydrogen carbonate as a co-catalyst. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Umbilical cord blood (UCB) is becoming an alternative cell source for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). However, umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) has been severely limited by low and finite numbers of hematopoietic stem cells and their delayed engraftment. New strategies are needed to improve ex vivo expansion efficiency and in vivo haematopoietic recovery.Methods: We produced an endothelium-targeted soluble Notch ligand, the Delta-Serrate-Lag-2 (DSL) domain of human Delta-like 1 fused with a RGD motif (hD1R), and tested the effects of this protein on human umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell (UCB-HSPC) ex vivo and in vivo.Results: hD1R-mediated ex vivo expansion system was able to significantly increase the absolute number of UCB-HSPCs. The hD1R-expanded cells had the enhanced homing and maintained long-term hematopoietic stem cell repopulation capacity in the bone marrow of immunodeficient nonobese diabetic-severe combined immunodeficient (NOD/SCID) mice. Moreover, systemic administration of hD1R promoted the in vivo regeneration of donor cells in recipient mice and accelerated hematopoietic recovery, particularly in settings wherein the HSPCs dose was limiting.Conclusions: Our results indicated that hD1R might be applied in improving hematopoietic recovery and HSC engraftment in human UCBT. Support vector regression with chaotic sequence and simulated annealing algorithm in previous forecasting research paper has shown its superiority to effectively avoid trapping into a local optimum. However, the proposed chaotic simulated annealing (CSA) algorithm in previous published literature as well as the original SA algorithm could not realize the mechanism of temperature decreasing continuously. In addition, lots of chaotic sequences adopt Logistic mapping function which is distributed at both ends in the interval [0,1], thus, it could not excellently strengthen the chaotic distribution characteristics. To continue exploring any possible improvements of the proposed CSA and chaotic sequence, this paper employs the innovative cloud theory to be hybridized with CSA to overcome the discrete temperature annealing process, and applies the Cat mapping function to ensure the chaotic distribution characteristics. Furthermore, seasonal mechanism is also proposed to well arrange with the cyclic tendency of electric load, caused by economic activities or climate cyclic nature. This investigation eventually presents a load forecasting model which hybridizes the seasonal support vector regression model and chaotic cloud simulated annealing algorithm (namely SSVRCCSA) to receive more accurate forecasting performance. To deal well with the normally distributed random error existed in the traffic flow series, this paper introduces the ν-Support Vector Regression (ν-GSVR) model with the Gaussian loss function to the prediction field of short-term traffic flow. A new hybrid evolutionary algorithm (namely CCGA) is established to search the appropriate parameters of the ν-GSVR, coupling the Chaos map, Cloud model and genetic algorithm. Consequently, a new forecasting approach for short-term traffic flow, combining ν-GSVR model and CCGA algorithm, is proposed. The forecasting process considers the traffic flow for the road during the first few time intervals, the traffic flow for the upstream road section and weather conditions. A numerical example from the intersection between Culture Road and Shi-Full Road in Banqiao is used to verify the forecasting performance of the proposed model. Background aims. The purpose of this study was to examine neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects of limbus stroma-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (L-MSCs) on cortical neurons in vitro and in vivo. Methods. Cultured L-MSCs were characterized by flow cytometry and immunofluorescence through the use of specific MSC marker antibodies. Conditioned media were collected from normoxia- and hypoxia-treated L-MSCs to assess neurotrophic effects. Neuroprotective potentials were eval-uated through the use of in vitro hypoxic cortical neuron culture and in vivo rat focal cerebral ischemia models. Neuronal morphology was confirmed by immunofluorescence with the use of anti-MAP2 antibody. Post-ischemic infarct volume and motor behavior were assayed by means of triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining and open-field testing, respectively. Human growth antibody arrays and enzyme-linked immunoassays were used to analyze trophic/growth factors contained in conditioned media. Results. Isolated human L-MSCs highly expressed CD29, CD90 and CD105 but not CD34 and CD45. Mesenchymal lineage cell surface expression pattern and differentiation capacity were identical to MSCs derived form human bone marrow and adipose tissue. The L-MSC normoxic and hypoxic conditioned media both promoted neunte outgrowth in cultured cortical neurons. Hypoxic conditioned medium showed superior neurotrophic function and neuroprotective potential with reduced ischemic brain injury and improved functional recovery in rat focal cerebral ischemia models. Human growth factor arrays and enzyme-linked immunoassays measurements showed neuroprotective and growth-associated cytokines (vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGF], VEGFR3, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, insulin-like growth factor -2 and hepatocyte growth factor) contained in conditioned media. Hypoxic exposure caused VEGF and brain-derived neurotrophic factor upregulation, possibly contributing to neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects. Conclusions. In this paper, we present a framework for the hybrid omnidirectional and perspective robot vision system. Based on the hybrid imaging geometry, a generalized stereo approach is developed via the construction of virtual cameras. It is then used to rectify the hybrid image pair using the perspective projection model. The proposed method not only simplifies the computation of epipolar geometry for the hybrid imaging system, but also facilitates the stereo matching between the heterogeneous image formation. To the Editors, We read with interest the recent article by Negri et al.[1] The authors analyzed 14 patients aged >25 years from a single center in a retrospective cohort study. They found that adult chondroblastoma (CB) tended to involve short bones, had a favorable clinical outcome, and local recurrence rates were similar to those of the younger population. Second, the authors found that among CB patients in their institution, adult CB tended to involve the short bones and the local recurrence rate was similar to that of the young population,[1] whereas previous studies found that CB was most common in the epiphysis of long bones,[4] and the age of the patients was associated with CB recurrence.[7] Among patients with non-long bone CB, the prognosis of older patients is significantly better than that of younger patients,[7] and the unclosed epiphysis of young people is an important factor for CB recurrence.[3] In long bone CB, there was no difference in the recurrence rate between adult and young CB.[7] This is not consistent with the findings of Negri et al and further studies with large samples are needed to conclude. The Asian citrus psyllid Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Liviidae) is a major citrus pest spread around the world. It is also a vector of the bacterium 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus', considered the cause of the fatal citrus disease huanglongbing (HLB). Insect ryanodine receptors (RyRs) are the primary target sites of diamide insecticides. In this study, full-length RyR cDNA from D. citri (named DcRyR) was isolated and identified. The 15,393 bp long open reading frame of DcRyR encoded a 5130 amino acid protein with a calculated molecular weight of 580,830 kDa. This protein had a high sequence identity (76–79%) with other insect homologs and a low sequence identity (43–46%) with mammals. An MIR domain, two RIH domains, three SPRY domains, four RyR repeat domains, an RIH-associated domain at the N-terminus, two consensus calcium-binding EF-hands, and six transmembrane domains were among the characteristics that DcRyR shared with insect and vertebrate RyRs. In expression analysis, the DcRyR gene displayed transcript abundance in all tissues and developmental stages as well as gene-differential and stage-specific patterns. In addition, diagnostic PCR experiments revealed that DcRyR had three potential alternative splice variants and that splicing events might have contributed to the various functions of DcRyR. However, diamide resistance-related amino acid residue mutations I4790M/K and G4946E were not found in DcRyR. Gastrointestinal (GI) tumor is a serious disease with high mortality rates and morbidity rates worldwide. Chemotherapy is a key treatment for GI, however, systematic side effects and inevitable drug resistance complicate the situation. In the process of therapy, P-glycoprotein (P-gp) could remove chemotherapy drugs from cells, thus causing multi-drug resistance. Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) utilizing Fenton chemistry has been used for cancer therapy, along with various combination therapies. The reactive oxygen species produced by CDT could inhibit P-gp's efflux pump function, which reduce chemoagents excretion and reverse drug resistance. In the present study, we developed novel nanocrystals (Cu2O@Pt NCs) to overcome drug resistance by reducing mitochondria-derived ATP through chemo/CDT in GI cancer. Furthermore, in vivo results in tumor-bearing mice demonstrated that treatment with Cu2O@Pt NCs with CDT and chemotherapy could achieve the most effective antitumor therapeutic effect with the least amounts of adverse effects. Background This study hopes to establish the timeframe for a safe return to driving under different speed conditions for patients after minimally invasive total knee arthroplasty and further explores how well various kinds of functional tests on knee performance can predict the patients' braking ability. Methods 14 patients with right knee osteoarthritis were included in the present study and instructed to perform three simulated driving tasks at preoperative, 2 weeks postoperative and 4 weeks postoperative. Results The results showed that the total braking time at 4 week postoperative has attained the preoperative level at the driving speed 50 and 70 km/hr but not at the driving speed 90 km/hr. It had significantly improving in knee reaction time and maximum isometric force at 4 weeks postoperative. Besides, there was a moderate to high correlation between the scores of the step counts and the total braking time. Conclusions Summary, it is recommended that driving may be resumed 4 weeks after a right knee replacement but had to drive at low or moderate speed and the best predictor of safety driving is step counts. Boehmite nanostructures with different morphologies were prepared through polymorphic transformation of bayerite in the dry-gel conversion process with acetic acid solutions as steam source. The evolution of the crystalline structures and morphologies of nanoparticles tightly relied on the composition of the steam source, where H2O in the vapor offered the hydrothermal environment for the formation of boehmite crystalline structure and preferred the flake-like morphology while HAc adjusted the particle morphologies from flakes to nano-rods. Notably, the nano-structured particles aggregated together and led to the formation of microsized hierarchical boehmite structures. After dehydration, the boehmite can transform to γ-Al2O3 with the hierarchical structures well preserved, resulting in good textural properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: This paper presents an advanced augmented reality system for spinal surgery assistance, and develops entry-point guidance prior to vertebroplasty spinal surgery. Based on image-based marker detection and tracking, the proposed camera-projector system superimposes pre-operative 3-D images onto patients. The patients’ preoperative 3-D image model is registered by projecting it onto the patient such that the synthetic 3-D model merges with the real patient image, enabling the surgeon to see through the patients’ anatomy. The proposed method is much simpler than heavy and computationally challenging navigation systems, and also reduces radiation exposure. The system is experimentally tested on a preoperative 3D model, dummy patient model and animal cadaver model. The feasibility and accuracy of the proposed system is verified on three patients undergoing spinal surgery in the operating theater. The results of these clinical trials are extremely promising, with surgeons reporting favorably on the reduced time of finding a suitable entry point and reduced radiation dose to patients. BACKGROUND: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) affects tumor growth and metastasis by mediating angiogenesis. Vascular endothelial growth factor overexpression is considered a predictor of poor prognosis in cancer patients. Exercise may increase the circulating levels of VEGF, which is important to angiogenesis. We examined the effects of exercise training on VEGF levels and tumor growth in male C57BL/6 mice inoculated with Lewis lung cancer cells. METHODS: Thirty-two mice were randomly assigned to either the tumor control (TC, n=16) group or the tumor exercise (TE, n=16) group. Half of the mice in TE group received aerobic interval exercise training, and the other half received aerobic continuous exercise training for 4 weeks. The animal weights and tumor volumes were assessed three times per week. Serum VEGF levels were determined at baseline, 2 and 4 weeks. The solid tumor, lung and liver were excised and evaluated at study completion. RESULTS: There was a significant increase in VEGF levels after the 4-week exercise training program in TE group, but no significant changes were observed in TC group. CONCLUSIONS: Although exercise training increased serum VEGF levels, group differences were not evident in our study. To overcome the continuous decline in its gross domestic product growth rate, China has advocated new and old kinetic energy conversion (NOKEC) as a policy for sustainable economic development in the post-COVID-19 era. The innovation drivers of NOKEC are the key to promoting sustainable economic development. However, the innovation drivers have various orientations, and their selection requires multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM). This study proposes a modified Delphi method combined with the best–worst method (BWM) as a research framework for selecting and ranking innovation drivers. Our results show the validity of this integrated research framework on a case based in China in the post-COVID-19 era. The results reveal 21 innovation-driven factors of NOKEC with varying levels of relative importance. These results may provide a basis for policymakers and researchers with a useful further understanding of the importance and prioritizing of innovation drivers. Aerobic granules (AG) have good settling ability and are relatively insensitive to the variation of organic loading rate. When sizes of granules become bigger, substrate and oxygen become limited in the granule core, leading to cell lysis and disintegration of granules. The higher the dissolved oxygen, the deeper the oxygen penetration inside AG. AG operated under elevated pressure might be a possible way to maintain long-term stability of granules. In this study, formation and characteristics of AG in the reactor operated under elevated high pressure (HP) and ambient pressure (AP) are investigated. Results show that both systems removed an average 95% of total organic carbon. Sludge volume index at 5 and 30 min settling times under HP are 35% smaller those under AP, indicating that HP granules have a better settling ability and a denser structure than AP granules. The granule size in the HP system is very uniform, while size distribution in the AP system is broader, indicating that the AP system contains flocculent sludge. Extracellular polymeric substances and polysaccharides (PS) are almost the same for HP and AP; however, exopolymeric protein (PN) is very different. PS/PN ratio for HP sludge is four times that of AP. The result is consistent with sludge settleability, which is improved with increasing PS/PN ratio. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To explore the mechanisms in Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) measurements, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were first prepared by a silver mirror reaction to form different particle sizes and different distributions on glass substrates. After the resulting surfaces were probed with molecules of p-Amino-thiophenol ( pATP), p-Nitrothiophenol ( pNTP), and p-Mercaptobenzoic acid ( pMBA) individually, the substrates were placed into reaction solutions to grow additional AgNPs. In this way, probe molecules could be trapped between two nanoparticles, possibly having the so-called 'hot spot' effect. To examine the variations of morphologies of AgNPs in each of the steps, the substrates were examined by field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The morphologies also were correlated with the SERS signals. Two bands in the SERS spectra of probe molecules were selected as indications of the enhancements from electromagnetic (EM) effect and charge-transfer (CT). Results indicate that the SERS signals from the EM effect were increased ca. 5 times after growing additional AgNPs on the molecule-modified AgNPs substrates. The SERS signals from CT effect were increased two orders of magnitude after growing additional AgNPs. The increase of enhancement for molecules between AgNPs was caused mostly by CT effect. Based on the effect of particle size and distribution of the AgNPs, the EM effect was strongly influenced by the particle size of the AgNPs, while the CT effect was less sensitive to the variation of the morphologies of the AgNPs. Thehydrological frequency analysis (HFA) is the foundation for the hydraulic engineering design and water resources management. Hydrological extreme observations or samples are the basis for HFA; the representativeness of a sample series to the population distribution is extremely important for the estimation reliability of the hydrological design value or quantile. However, for most of hydrological extreme data obtained in practical application, the size of the samples is usually small, for example, in China about 40~50 years. Generally, samples with small size cannot completely display the statistical properties of the population distribution, thus leading to uncertainties in the estimation of hydrological design values. In this paper, a new method based on bootstrap is put forward to analyze the impact of sampling uncertainty on the design value. By bootstrap resampling technique, a large number of bootstrap samples are constructed from the original flood extreme observations; the corresponding design value or quantile is estimated for each bootstrap sample, so that the sampling distribution of design value is constructed; based on the sampling distribution, the uncertainty of quantile estimation can be quantified. Compared with the conventional approach, this method provides not only the point estimation of a design value but also quantitative evaluation on uncertainties of the estimation. For the last three decades, we have focused on the use of organoboron compounds as precursors to isotopically labeled physiologically active reagents. During that period, we have successfully developed methods for incorporating short- and long-lived isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and the halogens using a variety of reactive organoboron precursors. In addition, labeling strategies employing polymer-supported organoboron derivatives were developed. The effect of high energy electron irradiation on the electrical and optical properties of n-GaN is studied. Hall and photoluminescence measurements are carried out on the samples irradiated with different doses. The results obtained from Hall measurements show that electron concentration and mobility are proportional to electron irradiation doses. The PL results show that the near-band-edge intensity and yellow luminescence intensity decrease continually with the increasing electron irradiation. However, it is found that the ratio of the yellow luminescence intensity to the near-band-edge intensity increases with the increasing of electron irradiation dose. To interpret this phenomenon, we propose two theoretical models based on the charge transport mechanism and rate equations, respectively, and they are in good agreement with the experimental observations. Synthetic siRNA has been considered as a highly promising therapeutic agent for human diseases. However, clinical use of siRNA has been hampered by instability in the body and inability to deliver sufficient RNA interference compounds to the tissues or cells. To address this challenge, we present here a single siRNA nanocapsule delivery technology, which is achieved by encapsulating a single siRNA molecule within a degradable polymer nanocapsule with a diameter around 20 nm and positive surface charge. As proof-of-concept, since CCR5 is considered a major silencing target of HIV therapy, CCR5-siRNA nanocapsules were delivered into 293T cells and successfully downregulated the CCR5 RNA fused with mCherry reporter RNA. In the absence of human serum, nanocapsules and lipofectamine silenced expression of CCR5-mCherry expression to 8% and 15%, respectively. Such nanocapsules maintain the integrity of siRNA inside even after incubation with ribonuclease and serum for 1 h; under the same conditions, siRNA is degraded in the native form or when formulated with lipofectamine. In the presence of serum, CCR5-siRNA nanocapsules knocked down CCR5-mCherry expression to less than 15% while siRNAs delivered through lipofectamine slightly knocked down the expression to 55%. Abstract: Halodeboronation of organotrifluoroborates using commercially available tetrabutylammonium tribromide (TBATB) or cesium triiodide in aqueous medium is reported. The mild, transition metal-free method has proven to be tolerant of a wide range of functional groups. High regio- and chemoselectivity are observed. Two synthetic routes to (Z)-dibromoalkenes from alkynes, through stereodefined (Z)-2-bromoalkenyltrifluoroborates and (Z)-1,2-bis(boryl)alkenyltrifluoroborates, have been developed using the TBATB mediated bromodeboronation as the key step. Degenerate shoulder tendons display evidence of hypoxia. However tendons are relatively avascular and not considered to have high oxygen requirements and the vulnerability of tendon cells to hypoxia is unclear. Cultured human tenocytes were exposed to hypoxia and the cellular response detected using QPCR, Western blotting, viability, and ELISA assays. We find that tenocytes respond to hypoxia in vitro by activating classical HIF-1α-driven pathways. Total hypoxia caused significant tenocyte apoptosis. Transcription factors typically involved in hypoxic response, HIF-1α and FOXO3A, were upregulated. Hypoxia caused sustained upregulation of several proapoptotic proteins known to mediate hypoxia-induced apoptosis, such as Bnip3 and Nix, but others were unchanged although they were reportedly hypoxia-sensitive in other cell types. Antiapoptotic proteins Bcl2 and Bcl-xL were unchanged by hypoxia. Normal human tenocytes expressed all isoforms of the hypoxia-induced vascular growth factor VEGF except VEGF-D. Hypoxia markedly upregulated VEGF-A mRNA, followed by increased VEGF protein secretion. However treatment with VEGF did not improve tenocyte survival. As a protective strategy for tenocytes at risk of hypoxic death we added prosurvival growth factors insulin or platelet rich plasma (PRP). In the presence of boron trihalides, aryl aldehydes couple readily with allylmetals to afford haloallylated products. The reactions tolerate a variety of functional groups. Simple aqueous workup of haloallylation reactions, followed by treatment with 1,8- diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene, provides a straightforward route to synthetically useful (E)-1,3-dienes. Abstract: Highly sensitive SERS substrates based on deposition of silver nanoparticles on commercially available filter paper were prepared in this work, and used to overcome problems found in analyses of aqueous samples. To prepare silver nanoparticle- (AgNP) doped filter substrates, a silver mirror reaction was used. The procedures for substrate preparation were systematically optimized. Pretreatment of filter paper, reaction time, temperature, and concentration of reagents for silver mirror reactions were studied. The morphologies of the resulting substrates were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and correlated with the SERS signals by probing with p-nitrothiophenol (pNTP). Filter papers with different pretreatments were found to have different sizes and distributions of AgNPs. The best performance was found when filter paper was pre-treated with ammonia solution before growth of AgNPs. Based on the SEM images, the resulting AgNPs had roughly spherical shape with a high degree of uniformity. The silver-coated filter paper substrates provide much higher SERS signals compared to glass substrates and the reproducibility was improved significantly. Based on statistical analyses, the relative standard deviations for substrate-to-substrate and spot-to-spot were both were less than 8% and the enhancement factors for the substrates were, in general, higher than 107. The SERS substrates were used to selectively detect tyrosine in aqueous solution. Results indicate that filter-based SERS substrates are highly suited to detection of tyrosine. Compared to glass-based SERS substrates, 50 times more SERS signal was observed in detection of tyrosine. The linear range can be up to 100μM with a detection limit of 625nM (SN−1 =3). We describe a new semantic descriptor for robots to recognize visual places. The descriptor integrates image features and color information via the hull census transform (HCT) and image histogram indexing. Our approach extracts the semantic description based on the convex hull points and statistical calculation. The color histograms are then formed by four indices and added to the descriptor. The semantic codebook consists of several places with many image descriptors. Finally, a one-versus-one (OVO) multi-class support vector machine (SVM) is used to model the places. The proposed technique is achieved by using a high-level cue integration scheme based on the learning information over the color and feature space to optimally combine the weighted cues. It is suitable for visual place recognition, particularly for the images captured by an omnidirectional camera. The experimental results show that the codebook with less vectors is as robust as most popular codebooks under varying environments.
