Triploids are rare in nature because of difficulties in meiotic and gametogenic processes, especially in vertebrates. The Carassius complex of cyprinid teleosts contains sexual tetraploid crucian carp/goldfish (C. auratus) and unisexual hexaploid gibel carp/Prussian carp (C. gibelio) lineages, providing a valuable model for studying the evolution and maintenance mechanism of unisexual polyploids in vertebrates. Here we sequence the genomes of the two species and assemble their haplotypes, which contain two subgenomes (A and B), to the chromosome level. Sequencing coverage analysis reveals that C. gibelio is an amphitriploid (AAABBB) with two triploid sets of chromosomes; each set is derived from a different ancestor. Resequencing data from different strains of C. gibelio show that unisexual reproduction has been maintained for over 0.82 million years. Comparative genomics show intensive expansion and alterations of meiotic cell cycle-related genes and an oocyte-specific histone variant. Cytological assays indicate that C. gibelio produces unreduced oocytes by an alternative ameiotic pathway; however, sporadic homologous recombination and a high rate of gene conversion also exist in C. gibelio. These genomic changes might have facilitated purging deleterious mutations and maintaining genome stability in this unisexual amphitriploid fish. Overall, the current results provide novel insights into the evolutionary mechanisms of the reproductive success in unisexual polyploid vertebrates.

As the deepest vertebrate in the ocean, the hadal snailfish, which lives at a depth of about 7,000m, is a representative case for studying adaptation to extreme environments. Three years after the publication of its first genome, we re-investigated this species using more resequencing individuals and more refined comparative genomic analyses. We found that the hadal snailfish have the ability to migrate across different trenches in the Pacific Ocean after fully adapting to the hadal zone. The loss and retention of sensory genes suggests that the auditory and mechanosensory perception of the hadal snailfish may have undergone compensatory enhancement in complete darkness, while the visual system gradually disappeared. The special environment of the hadal zone has also affected this species in ways that are reflected in genetic changes related to circadian rhythms, behavior, bone mineralization, and high-hydrostatic pressure adaptation. We report here further advances in our understanding of the origin, specific characteristics and adaptive mechanisms of hadal snailfish.

Sequential sharing of nonlocal correlation is inherently related to its application. We address the question as to how many observers can share the nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) in a $(d\times d)$-dimensional state, where $d$ is a prime or a power of a prime. We first analyze the trade-off between disturbance and information gain of the general $d$-dimensional unsharp measurements. Then in a scenario where multiple Alices perform unsharp measurements on one party of the state sequentially and independently and a single Bob measures coherence of the conditional states on the other party, we show that at most one Alice can demonstrate NAQC with Bob. This limit holds even when considering the weak measurements with optimal pointer states. These results may shed light on the interplay between nonlocal correlations and quantum measurements on high-dimensional systems and the hierarchy of different quantum correlations., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

The remote control of coherence is a crucial step for its application in quantum computation. We investigate the maximal steered coherence (MSC) and its conversion to entanglement in multiple bosonic reservoirs. It is shown that the MSC decays with time in the Markovian regime and behaves as damped oscillations in the non-Markovian regime. The MSC can also be connected directly to the strength of non-Markovianity, through which we show that it can be noticeably enhanced by taking full advantage of the non-Markovian effects. Besides, the MSC can be converted completely to entanglement via optimal incoherent operation applied to the steered qubit and an incoherent ancilla which is immune of decoherence, and the generated entanglement is stronger than the shared entanglement in prior. These findings suggest a potential way for remotely generating and manipulating coherence and entanglement in noisy environments., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

Quantum coherence reflects the origin of quantumness and might be capable of extracting the subtle nature of a system. We investigate the ground-state coherence and steered coherence in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model and show that they detect faithfully the quantum phase transitions of this model. Moreover, we carry out scaling analysis on the coherence and steered coherence by means of the continuous unitary transformation method and it is found that the scaling exponents are uniquely determined by the phase region of this model. We propose to use the steered quantum coherence (SQC) as a signature of quantum phase transitions (QPTs). By considering various spin chain models, including the transverse-field Ising model, \textit{XY} model, and \textit{XX} model with three-spin interaction, we showed that the SQC and its first-order derivative succeed in signaling different critical points of QPTs. In particular, the SQC method is effective for any spin pair chosen from the chain, and the strength of SQC, in contrast to entanglement and quantum discord, is insensitive to the distance (provided it is not very short) of the tested spins, which makes it convenient for practical use as there is no need for careful choice of two spins in the chain., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

Quantum Fisher information (QFI) has potential applications in quantum metrology tasks. We investigate QFI when the consecutive actions of a quantum channel on the sequence of qubits have partial classical correlations. Our results showed that while the decoherence effect is detrimental to QFI, effects of such classical correlations on QFI are channel-dependent. For the Bell-type probe states, the classical correlations on consecutive actions of the depolarizing and phase flip channels can be harnessed to improve QFI, while the classical correlations in the bit flip and bit-phase flip channels induce a slight decrease of QFI. In recent years, the development and construction of islands and reefs has been proposed by the government and commercial company. However, as a large cargo carrier cannot reach islands and reefs if the harbor is not available, such type of carrier which has well deck is designed to meet the requirements of delivering people and equipment. It is a possible way to connect the island and supply cargo ships. This paper firstly summarizes the domestic and foreign research progress of hydrodynamic analysis of ships with well deck. Then, based on the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools, we set up a linear numerical wave tank and study the hydrodynamic performance of original Wigley-III ship and modified Wigley-III ship with well deck. The hydrodynamic effect of the floating body in the well deck has been investigated and discussed.

Protein crystallization is a process that is very sensitive to the physical environment. Audible sound is an environmental characteristic that can significantly affect the crystallization process. Previously, it was found that the crystallization result is frequency dependent, that is, the crystallization of protein under different sound frequencies yields different results. Here, we further investigate the effect of varying frequency (or a frequency program) on protein crystallization. Twelve different frequency programs and six proteins were used to test the effect of varying sound frequency on protein crystallization. The results showed that varying the audible sound frequency from high to low exhibited the most significant improvement in protein crystallization. Varying frequency linearly from 15 000 to 100 Hz in 12 h best promoted crystallization, with the average number of crystallization hits 36.5% higher than in the control. Quantum coherence and quantum correlations are of fundamental and practical significance for the development of quantum mechanics.They are also cornerstones of quantum computation and quantum communication theory. Searching physically meaningful and mathematically rigorous quantifiers of them are long-standing concerns of the community of quantum information science, and various faithful measures have been introduced so far. We review in this paper the measures of discordlike quantum correlations for bipartite and multipartite systems, the measures of quantum coherence for any single quantum system, and their relationship in different settings. Our aim is to provide a full review about the resource theory of quantum coherence, including its application in many-body systems, and the discordlike quantum correlations which were defined based on the various distance measures of states. We discuss the interrelations between quantum coherence and quantum correlations established in an operational way, and the fundamental characteristics of quantum coherence such as their complementarity under different basis sets, their duality with path information of an interference experiment, their distillation and dilution under different operations, and some new viewpoints of the superiority of the quantum algorithms from the perspective of quantum coherence. Additionally, we review properties of geometric quantum correlations and quantum coherence under noisy quantum channels. Finally, the main progresses for the study of quantum correlations and quantum coherence in the relativistic settings are reviewed. We investigate the nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) and entanglement for two spins coupled via the Heisenberg interaction and under the intrinsic decoherence. Solutions of this decoherence model for the initial spin-1/2 and spin-1 maximally entangled states are obtained, based on which we calculate the NAQC and entanglement. In the weak region of magnetic field, the NAQC behaves as a damped oscillation with the time evolves, while the entanglement decays exponentially (behaves as a damped oscillation) for the spin-1/2 (spin-1) case. Moreover, the decay of both the NAQC and entanglement can be suppressed significantly by tuning the magnetic field and anisotropy of the spin interaction to some decoherence-rate-determined optimal values.

The differences between the XXZ model with topological and periodical boundary conditions were compared by studying their entanglement, quantum discord, and critical temperature above which the entanglement vanishes. It shows that the different boundary conditions mainly affect bipartite quantum correlations of the boundary spins rather than that of other spin pairs. The topological boundary spins can protect entanglement and discord against strong magnetic fields while the periodical boundary spins can protect them against nonuniform magnetic fields. Compared with the periodical XXZ model, the critical temperature is significantly improved for the topological XXZ model. The topological XXZ model also allows us to improve significantly its critical temperature by increasing the strength of magnetic field, which is not feasible for the periodical XXZ model. It is therefore more promising for preparing entangled states at high temperature in the topological XXZ model.

We identify that quantum coherence is a valuable resource in the quantum heat engine, which is designed in a quantum thermodynamic cycle assisted by a quantum Maxwell's demon. This demon is in a superposed state. The quantum work and heat are redefined as the sum of coherent and incoherent parts in the energy representation. The total quantum work and the corresponding efficiency of the heat engine can be enhanced due to the coherence consumption of the demon. In addition, we discuss an universal information heat engine driven by quantum coherence. The extractable work of this heat engine is limited by the quantum coherence, even if it has no classical thermodynamic cost. We investigate nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) in a correlated dephasing channel modeled by the multimode bosonic reservoir. We obtain analytically the dephasing and memory factors of this channel for the reservoir having a Lorentzian spectral density, and analyze how they affect the NAQC defined by the l 1 norm and relative entropy. It is shown that the memory effects of this channel on NAQC are state-dependent, and they suppress noticeably the rapid decay of NAQC for the family of input Bell-like states with one excitation. For the given transmission time of each qubit, we also obtain the regions of the dephasing and memory factors during which there is NAQC in the output states.

The long-time maintenance of quantum coherence is crucial for its practical applications. We explore decoherence process of a multiqubit system passing through a correlated channel (phase flip, bit flip, bit-phase flip, and depolarizing). The results show that the decay of coherence was evidently delayed when the consecutive actions of the channel on the sequence of qubits has some classical correlations. In particular, the relative entropy of coherence for a system with large number of qubits is more robust than that with small number of qubits. We also provide an explanation for the delayed decoherence by exploring the interplay between the change of the unlocalized quantum coherence and the total correlation gain of the multiqubit system., 6 pages, 3 figures

Quantum coherence and nonlocality capture nature of quantumness from different aspects. For the two-qubit states with diagonal correlation matrix, we prove strictly a hierarchy between the nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) and Bell nonlocality by showing geometrically that the NAQC created on one qubit by local measurement on another qubit captures quantum correlation which is stronger than Bell nonlocality. For general states, our numerical results present strong evidence that this hierarchy may still hold. So the NAQC states form a subset of the states that can exhibit Bell nonlocality. Coherence is a basic feature of quantum systems and a common necessary condition for quantum correlations. It is also an important physical resource in quantum information processing. In this paper, using relative entropy, we consider a more general definition of the cohering power of quantum operations. First, we calculate the cohering power of unitary quantum operations and show that the amount of distributed coherence caused by non-unitary quantum operations cannot exceed the quantum-incoherent relative entropy between system of interest and its environment. We then find that the difference between the distributed coherence and the cohering power is larger than the quantum-incoherent relative entropy. As an application, we consider the distributed coherence caused by purification.

By local measurements on party $A$ of a system $AB$ and classical communication between its two parties, one can achieve a nonlocal advantage of quantum coherence (NAQC) on party $B$. For the $l_1$ norm of coherence and the relative entropy of coherence, we generalized the framework of NAQC for two qubits and derived the criteria which capture NAQC in the $(d\times d)$-dimensional states when $d$ is a power of a prime. We also presented a new framework for formulating NAQC, and showed through explicit examples its capacity on capturing the NAQC states. The reservoir memory effects can lead to information backflow and recurrence of the previously lost quantum correlations. We establish connections between the direction of information flow and variation of the geometric quantum discords (GQDs) measured respectively by the trace distance, the Hellinger distance, and the Bures distance for two qubits subjecting to the bosonic structured reservoirs, and unveil their dependence on a factor whose derivative signifies the (non-)Markovianity of the dynamics. By considering the reservoirs with Lorentzian and Ohmic-like spectra, we further demonstrated that the non-Markovianity induced by the backflow of information from the reservoirs to the system enhances the GQDs in most of the parameter regions. The resource theoretic measure of quantum coherence is basis dependent, and the amount of coherence contained in a state is different in different bases. We obtained analytical solutions for the maximum coherence by optimizing the reference basis and highlighted the essential role of the mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) on attaining the maximum coherence. Apart from the relative entropy of coherence, we showed that the MUBs are optimal for the robustness of coherence, the coherence weight, and the modified skew information measure of coherence for any state. Moreover, the MUBs are optimal for all the faithful coherence measures if the state is pure or is of the single qubit. We also highlighted an upper bound for the $l_1$ norm of coherence and compared it with the other bounds as well as the maximum one attainable by optimizing the reference basis., 7 pages, 2 figures

Quantum coherence, incompatibility, and quantum correlations are fundamental features of quantum physics. A unified view of those features is crucial for revealing quantitatively their intrinsic connections. We define the relative quantum coherence of two states as the coherence of one state in the reference basis spanned by the eigenvectors of another one and establish its quantitative connections with the extent of mutual incompatibility of two states. We also show that the proposed relative quantum coherence, which can take any form of measures such as $l_1$ norm and relative entropy, can be interpreted as or connected to various quantum correlations such as quantum discord, symmetric discord, entanglement of formation, and quantum deficits. One significant feature of quantum theory is the existence of non-local quantum correlations which have no classical counterpart. There are various measures quantifying quantum correlations from different view points. Here, we present some recent developments about the quantum correlation measures known as measurement-induced nonlocality, in the sense that quantum measurement may destroy the quantum correlations for quantum states resulting in measures of nonlocality. Quantum correlations remain invariant under local unitary operations, they may decrease under general local operations, however, sometimes they can also show increasing for some local operations. We will review the properties of quantum correlations under local operations.

Uncertainty relations take a crucial and fundamental part in the frame of quantum theory, and are bringing on many marvelous applications in the emerging field of quantum information sciences. Especially, as entropy is imposed into the uncertainty principle, entropy-based uncertainty relations lead to a number of applications including quantum key distribution, entanglement witness, quantum steering, quantum metrology, and quantum teleportation. Herein, the history of the development of the uncertainty relations is discussed, especially focusing on the recent progress with regard to quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relations and dynamical characteristics of the measured uncertainty in some explicit physical systems. We investigate how the classical correlations between successive actions of a colored dephasing channel affect the decoherence of a two-qubit system. Our calculation shows that the l 1 norm of coherence, the relative entropy of coherence, and the robustness of coherence can be noticeably enhanced by increasing the strength of classical correlations in the whole time interval during which the two qubits pass through the channel, while the coherence weight is enhanced only when exceeds a critical value. Moreover, in the infinite-time limit, all the coherence measures reach their steady values which are determined only by .

The estimation of the decoherence process of an open quantum system is of both theoretical significance and experimental appealing. Practically, the decoherence can be easily estimated if the coherence evolution satisfies some simple relations. Based on the coherence quantification method, we prove a simple factorization relation for the $l_1$ norm measure of coherence, and analyze under which condition this relation holds. We also obtain a more general relation which applies to arbitrary $N$-qubit state, and determine a condition for the transformation matrix of the quantum channel which can support permanently freezing of the $l_1$ norm of coherence. Based on the assumption that the receiver Bob can apply any unitary transformation, Horodecki {\it et al.} [Phys. Lett. A {\bf 222}, 21 (1996)] proved that any mixed two spin-1/2 state which violates the Bell-CHSH inequality is useful for teleportation. Here, we further show that any X state which violates the Bell-CHSH inequality can also be used for nonclassical teleportation even if Bob can only perform the identity or the Pauli rotation operations. We study standard protocol $\mathcal{P}_0$ for teleporting the one-qubit state with both the transmission process of the two qubits constitute the quantum channel and the recovery operations performed by Bob disturbed by the decohering environment. The results revealed that Bob's imperfect operations do not eliminate the possibility of nonclassical teleportation fidelity provided he shares an ideal channel state with Alice, while the transmission process is constrained by a critical time $t_{0,c}$ longer than which will result in failure of $\mathcal{P}_0$ if the two qubits are corrupted by the decohering environment. Moreover, we found that under the condition of the same decoherence rate $\gamma$, the teleportation protocol is significantly more fragile when it is executed under the influence of the noisy environment than those under the influence of the dissipative and dephasing environments., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

The one-qubit teleportation protocol is reexamined when it is executed in the presence of various decohering environments. The results revealed that this quantum protocol is more robust under the influence of dephaisng environment than those under the influence of dissipative or noisy environment. The environment may deprive the quantum advantage of teleportation over purely classical communication in a finite or infinite lifetime, which is dependent on the type of environment. By adopting the concept of fidelity, we investigated efficiency of quantum state transfer with the XX chain as the quantum channel. Different from the previous works, we concentrated on effects of spin and magnetic impurity on fidelity of quantum state transfer. Our results revealed that the spin impurity cannot prevent one from implementing perfect transfer of an arbitrary one-qubit pure state across the spin channel, however, the presence of magnetic impurity or both spin and magnetic impurities may destroy the otherwise perfect spin channels., Comment: 5 pags

We study ground-state pairwise entanglement of spins in mean field clusters of spin-one particles interacting via the Ising interaction in the presence of longitudinal and transverse crystal fields. A general result is found that for all kinds of the spin-one Ising models, the pairwise negativities are symmetric with respect to the zero values of the applied transverse or longitudinal magnetic fields. For models considered in this paper, we show numerically that the crystal fields can serve as an alternative tool to create "on-demand" ground-state entanglement for small clusters of spins.

By employing the tensor analysis technique, we propose three schemes of controlled teleportation: series controlled, circular controlled and network controlled teleportation. We discuss the necessary and sufficient condition for realizing these schemes, in which we use a general two-qubit entangled state instead of the GHZ state as the communication channel. This enables successful implementation of teleportation without using the Hadamard operation.

By diagonalization of a generalized superoperator for solving the master equation, we investigated effects of dissipative and dephasing environments on quantum state transfer, as well as entanglement distribution and creation in spin networks. Our results revealed that under the condition of the same decoherence rate $\gamma$, the detrimental effects of the dissipative environment are more severe than that of the dephasing environment. Beside this, the critical time $t_c$ at which the transfer fidelity and the concurrence attain their maxima arrives at the asymptotic value $t_0=\pi/2\lambda$ quickly as the spin chain length $N$ increases. The transfer fidelity of an excitation at time $t_0$ is independent of $N$ when the system subjects to dissipative environment, while it decreases as $N$ increases when the system subjects to dephasing environment. The average fidelity displays three different patterns corresponding to $N=4r+1$, $N=4r-1$ and $N=2r$. For each pattern, the average fidelity at time $t_0$ is independent of $r$ when the system subjects to dissipative environment, and decreases as $r$ increases when the system subjects to dephasing environment. The maximum concurrence also decreases as $N$ increases, and when $N\rightarrow\infty$, it arrives at an asymptotic value determined by the decoherence rate $\gamma$ and the structure of the spin network., Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures

We investigate disentanglement dynamics of two coupled qubits and qutrits which interact uniformly to a general XY spin-chain environment with the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interaction. We obtained exact expression of the time evolution operator and analyzed the dynamical process of the decoherence factors. Through explicitly calculating the concurrence and the negativity, we examined disentanglement behaviors of two coupled central spins evolve from different initial pure states, which are found to be nontrivially different from those of the uncorrelated ones, in particular, the enhanced decay of the entanglement induced by quantum criticality of the surrounding environment may be broken by introducing self-Hamiltonian of the central spin system. Moreover, the DM interaction may have different influences on decay of the entanglement depending on the strength of the system-environment coupling, the anisotropy of the environmental spin chain and the intensity of the transverse magnetic field, as well as the explicit form of the initial states of the central spin system., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures
