In the first time we apply the statistics of the complex moments for selection of an optimal pressure sensor (from the available set of sensors) based on their statistical/correlation characteristics. The complex moments contain additional source of information and, therefore, they can realize the comparison of random sequences registered for almost identical devices or gadgets. The proposed general algorithm allows to calculate 12 key correlation parameters in the significance space. These correlation parameters allow to realize the desired comparison. New algorithm is rather general and can be applied for a set of other data if they are presented in the form of rectangle matrices. Each matrix contains N data points and M columns that are connected with repetitious cycle of measurements. In addition, we want to underline that the value of correlations evaluated with the help of Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) has a relative character. One can introduce also external correlations based on the statistics of the fractional/complex moments that form a complete picture of correlations. To the PCC value of internal correlations one can add at least 7 additional external correlators evaluated in the space of fractional and complex moments in order to realize the justified choice. We do suppose that the proposed algorithm (containing an additional source of information in the complex space) can find a wide application in treatment of different data, where it is necessary to select the "best sensors/chips" based on their measured data, presented usually in the form of random rectangle matrices.

The work presents data treatment methods aimed at eliminating the noise in the strain sensor data induced by vibrations of the helicopter blade in flight conditions. The methods can be applied in order to enhance the metrological performance of the helicopter weight estimation system based on the deformation measurement of the main rotor blades. The experimental setup included a composite plate fixed to the vibrating stand on the one end, with six fiber-optic strain sensors attached to its surface. In this work, the procedure of the optimal linear smoothing (POLS) and 3D-invariant methods were used to obtain monotone calibration curves for each detector, thereby making it possible to distinguish the increase of load applied to the free end of the plate with an increment of 10 g. The second method associated with 3D invariants took into account 13 quantitative parameters defined as the combination of different moments and their intercorrelations up to the fourth-order inclusive. These 13 parameters allowed the calculation of the 3D surface that can serve as a specific fingerprint, differentiating one set of initial data from another one. The combination of the two data treatment methods used in this work can be applied successfully in a wide variety of applications.

Single-photon detectors based on avalanche photodiodes (SPADs) are key elements of many modern highly sensitive optical systems. One of the bottlenecks of such detectors is an afterpulsing effect, which limits detection rate and requires an optimal hold-off time. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for statistical analysis of SPAD dark counts, and we demonstrate its usefulness for the search of the experimental condition where the afterpulsing effect can be strongly eliminated. This approach exploits a sequence of ranked time intervals between the dark counts and does not contain a complex mathematical analysis of the experimental data. We show that the approach can be efficiently applied for a small number of the dark counts, and it seems to be very beneficial for practical fast characterization of SPAD devices.

A microscopic theory of dielectric relaxation of the hexagonal ice (I h ) is proposed based on the multiple-trapping model. The theory explains the distinctive peculiarities of the relaxation time temperature behavior and the peak broadening parameter in a wide temperature range from the unified positions.

In traditional studies of changes in cell membrane potential or trans-membrane currents a large part of the recorded data presents "a pure noise." This noise results mainly from the random openings of membrane ionic channels. Different types of stationary or non-stationary noise analysis have been used in electrophysiological experiments for identification of channels kinetic states. But these methods have a limited power and often cannot answer to the main question of the experimental study: do external factors induce a significant change of channels kinetics? A new method suggested in the current study is based on the scaling properties of the beta-distribution function that allows reducing the series containing 200,000 and more data points to analysis of only 10-20 stable parameters. The following clusterization using the generalized Pearson correlation function allows taking into account the influence of an external factor and combine/separate different parameters of interest into a statistical cluster considering the influential parameter. This method which we call BRC (Beta distribution-Reduction-Clusterization) opens new possibilities in creation of a largely reduced database while extracting specific fingerprints of the long-term series. The BRC method was validated using patch clamp current recordings containing 250,000 data points obtained from the living cells and from open tip electrode. The numerical distinction between these two series in terms of the reduced parameters was obtained.

Over the past couple of decades there have been major advances in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Many applications have sprouted from these fields of research. It is essential, given the scale of the materials, to attain accurate, valid and reproducible measurements. Material properties have shown to be a function of their size and composition. Physiochemical properties of the nanomaterials can significantly alter material behavior compared to bulk counterparts. For example, metal oxide nanoparticles have found broad applications ranging from photo-catalysis to antibacterial agents. In our study, we synthesized CuO nanoparticles using well established sol-gel based methods with varying levels of Ni doping. However, upon analysis of measured infrared data, we discovered the presence of quasi-periodic (QP) processes. Such processes have previously been reported to be tightly associated with measurement memory effects. We were able to detect the desired QP process in these measurements from three highly accurate repetitive experiments performed on each Ni (1-7%) doped CuO sample. In other words, successive measurements performed in a rather short period of time remember each other at least inside a group of neighboring measurements.

Based on the supposition related to fractal nature of transport processes in ion-conducting materials, an expression for the low-frequency ac conductivity dependence was derived. This expression for the ac conductivity generalizes the power-law dependence and gives a possibility to take into account the influence of the electrode polarization effect. The ac conductivity expression obtained is in excellent agreement with experimental data for a wide frequency range.

In the frame of fractional-kinetic approach, the model of the structural α-relaxation in the presence of the secondary β-relaxation processes is suggested. The model is based on the rigorous bond between β-processes with α-process and leads to the generalized and justified expression for the complex dielectric permittivity (CDP). It allows to form a new sight on the problem of the fitting of multi-peak structure of the dielectric loss spectra in glass-forming materials. The consistency of the CDP expressions obtained is based on a good fit of experimental data for binary methanol-water mixtures.

Activation of sympato-adrenal system plays an important role in the development of chronic cardiac failure (CCF). However, its relation to morpho-functional state of myocardium in CCF patients is virtually unknown. HPLC with electrochemical detection was used to determine plasma noradrenalin, adrenalin, and their precursors, 3,4-dioxyphenylalanine (DOPA) and dopamine, in patients with different morpho-functional changes in myocardium. The study demonstrated enhanced activity of sympato-adrenal system in patients with CCF. It showed for the first time that activity of sympato-adrenal system in CCF patients depends on the morpho-functional status of myocardium.

Dielectric spectroscopy measurements of conductivity were applied for understanding the change in the internal morphology of the neutral and permanently charged polyacrylamide (PAAm) hydrogels during the swelling process. For the first time four distinct peaks (each corresponding to a different swelling stage) in the conductivity of the neutral gel were observed during the swelling of this gel. These peaks are related to the distribution of dense polymer regions (they are defined as the "blobs") appearing in a microstructure of the given PAAm gel having at least four average sizes. For the charged gel the heterogeneity decreases due to the internal electric field of the charged sites. Thus, this characteristic behavior in the conductivity becomes almost negligible for the gel charged with permanent SO(3) (-) groups. It seems this fact causes considerable decrease in amplitude of the peaks and overall decrease the conductivity during the whole swelling process especially at high frequencies. The new theory of dielectric relaxation based on the fractional kinetics containing the complex power-law exponents was used for verifying these swelling processes and received an excellent confirmation in description of the real part of the complex conductivity Re[sigma(omega)] by the fitting function that follows from the suggested theory. The calculated power-law exponents describe the behavior of Re[sigma(omega,mm(0))] in the available frequency range (30 Hz-13 MHz) and for all values of the relative masses (volumes) measured in the process of the experiment. The excellent coincidence between the new theory and measured data gives a possibility to suggest more reliable physical picture of the swelling process that takes place in neutral/charged gels.

A new method, based on the presentation of initial data in the form of probability circles (PC), has been developed for constructing a calibration curve, which shows a monotonic dependence with respect to the given concentration. The centre of the reference probability circle is defined by its mean value and the radius of the circle is calculated as the value of the standard deviation of the sampling considered. The comparative probability circle is defined by the same corresponding parameters but rotated, relative to the initial reference circle, by an angle, which is related to the Pearson's correlation coefficient (PCC). The two parameters of the PCC and the statistical proximity factor (PCF), which defines the positions of the centres of the circles relative to each other, can be chosen as statistical parameters for the construction of the desired calibration curve. Experiments realized with the mixture of two liquids (chloroform serves as the basic matrix) and acetone (serves as an additive) confirm the efficiency of this new analytical method and demonstrate a possible increase sensitivity for the detection of lower concentration limit by approximately one order of magnitude. This new approach, which is free from model assumptions, and having very clear geometrical meaning, can be applied for different types of spectra and has many potential applications in the construction of calibration curves for different additives embedded within different matrices.

The transverse Ising model is considered in the static fluctuation approximation. This hinges on the replacement of the local field operator with its mean value; only the quadratic fluctuations of the local field are retained. The model is applied to ferroelectrics of the order-disorder type, such as monoaxial crystalline threeglycinsulfate. Analytic expressions are derived for the spontaneous polarization, the specific heat, the pair correlation function, and the static susceptibility of this ferroelectric. Its main characteristics are then determined numerically as functions of the temperature. In particular, its critical behavior is obtained automatically for a specific value of some "control" parameter. It is predicted that, with respect to this parameter, the specific heat exhibits a logarithmic behavior to the right of the critical point; this is interpreted as a consequence of the long range and axial anisotropy of the dipole-dipole interaction. In passing, the behavior of the lattice Green function for the anisotropic dipole-dipole potential near the critical point is thoroughly examined.
