- Abstract
This qualitative and exploratory study aimed to understand the experience of adolescents during visits outside the school context in science museums and centres, and how the free-choice learning processes are constructed in this context. We analyzed the visits of four adolescents groups, from public schools, to Maloka (Bogotá, Colombia), and observed the relations of the visitors with their peers, with the exhibits, and with the explainers. For this objective, we examine video and audio recordings in terms of types of interaction and conversational content, seeking to answer: Is the explainer a necessary component of a visit to promote sustained cognitive engagement, or do non-guided activities also create enough interest to promote and sustain cognitive engagement? Active meaning-making was observed during the interactions with exhibits and explainers. In the latter case, the presence of the explainer appears to lead to refinement and complexification were in the sense making and activity of adolescents. In accordance with their sustained engagements and motivations, they mobilized knowledge and previous experiences in the relation with exhibits, in an engaged and autonomous manner, creating learning opportunities based on free-choice, which was reflected in their discussions about scientific themes or in the manual, mental and cultural interactions.

- Abstract
Science museums are key locations for informal education. They also enable research that explores how families structure their activities and conversations and how these contribute to learning experiences. The aim of this exploratory study, using qualitative and quantitative methodologies, was to analyse the process of family interactions during visits to a Brazilian science museum focused on microbiology and how their conversations mediated their learning experiences. Four groups, each consisting of a single family with children, participated in the study. Their visits were recorded using a subjective camera, and the audiovisual data were analysed regarding types of interactions and conversational content, based on an analysis protocol. The results reveal that the interactions and social dynamics that family groups engaged in during their visit provided cognitive and social learning experiences. The study also offers evidence on the role of children, the importance of conversations with adults during the visits, and the relevance of objects on exhibition in promoting learning conversations. Education - Abstract
In this exploratory and qualitative study, we investigate the experience of two groups of adults with visual disabilities in two science museums in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Data collection was performed by recording their visits through a subjective camera placed on the head of one of the visitors. The analysis used three accessibility indicators and barriers as codes. The data reveals that: (a) physical accessibility—related to the internal architectural aspects—was well developed; although other elements of this indicator need improvement; (b) attitudinal accessibility was present, mostly due to the work and guidance of the museums’ educators; (c) communicational accessibility was rare in the museums, either due to a lack of diversified equipment, media or resources both for internal and external communication; (d) barriers do exist, mainly because one or more element is missing from the accessibility indicators. This study indicates that the two science museums offer accessibility strategies from the perspective of people with visual disabilities and can provide interactions, learning and science communication for this audience in different levels. However, some barriers in both institutions still need to be improved. Based on our data, results and discussions, museums and their professionals can be inspired, learn and plan an organizational change toward accessibility. Lastly, museums need to be able to learn from people with disabilities.

[EN] Social inequalities brought up by welfare, racial, and geographic oppressions often determine whether a person has the possibility and the motivation to visit museums. Accessibility barriers also add another layer of distance between museums and people with disabilities. Although many museums have shown an effort to provide an accessible physical space, communicational and attitudinal aspects of access are less present – a concerning issue, especially when considering online activities. In face of the sanitary insecurity brought upon by the Covid-19 pandemic, online museums and exhibitions add up to the possibilities of creating and maintaining different audiences. Therefore, we must establish methods and tools to provide an accessible online museum space so that people from different backgrounds, including those with disabilities, may experience a barrier-free remote visit. In this context, our primary goal in this presentation is to introduce the process of developing the analytical tool “Accessibility Indicators for Online Exhibitions and Museums”, with a specific focus on the particularities of online museums and discuss its usability as a theoretical and practical framework. The instrument was adapted from the international guidelines, the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), and information gathered in the literature about accessibility in online environments and in museums. The work of Inacio (2017), with further development by Norberto Rocha et al. (2020, 2021), led to the publication of accessibility indicators and their application to investigate physical museums and the experience of visitors with disabilities. Although we identify common aspects of accessibility in physical and online museums, we understand that the specificities of online exhibitions need to be covered. The accessibility indicators for online exhibitions’ structure is composed of three indicators, each with two attributes. The first, “Design and navigability”, with the “Comfort, security and navigation flexibility” and “Access, manipulation and presentation flexibility” attributes, concerns the structure of the platform of the online exhibition and the action of scrolling through. The second, “Attitudinal”, with the “Inclusive practices, welcome and hosting” and “Institutional policy” attributes, concerns the efforts taken by the institution to include both visitors and professionals with disabilities. The third, “Communicational”, with the “Communication, and dissemination to a broad audience” and “Media and diverse resources to a plural communication” attributes, concerns informational and instructional aspects both internal and external to the online exhibition. Together, we believe that these indicators, as a tool, may provide a reference to the creation, update, and analysis of online exhibitions, aiming to improve museum access and education for a varied audience., [ES] Las desigualdades sociales provocadas por el bienestar, las opresiones raciales y geográficas a menudo determinan si una persona tiene la posibilidad y la motivación de visitar museos. - Abstract
In this study, we aimed to map the Olympics proposals submitted to the CNPq’s public calls for grants for 11 consecutive years (from 2005 to 2015) and to analyze their projects to identify elements that make up this action to encourage scientific dissemination in Brazil. Out of the 229 submitted projects, 96 were approved and financed for developing 21 Olympics in various areas of knowledge, the majority being for the exact and earth sciences. Associations and scientific societies stand out in their coordination, primarily concentrated in the Southeast region and represented by men. Arousing interest in the Olympics' theme is the most common objective of the projects. In contrast, the terms "science communication" and "popularization of science" are rarely spelt out as part of these objectives.

- Abstract
The role of the explainer has become a fundamental piece for any typology of museums and their visitors. This stakeholder, who has surpassed the traditional role of the guide, stands as one of the most promising and necessary in museums of all typologies. This paper presents a survey conducted at the Museo Interactivo de Economía (MIDE) in Mexico City (Mexico). The sample collected is 93 questionnaires applied to the museum's explainers, young university students between 20 and 30 years of age. The data collected was coded using Excel. Among other conclusions, the analysis indicates that 71% of the mediators attended the training offered by the museum and 84.9% consider that science and technology are beneficial for the humanity. The survey revealed other results: the explainers consider themselves a service and a bridge between the museum and the public; the most recurrent roles assumed by these explainers in the museum is to guide exhibitions and provide informal explanations to visitors. Adolescents and the school groups are the audiences who they attend the most in their work routine., El rol del mediador se ha convertido en una pieza fundamental para cualquier tipología de museos y de sus visitantes.

A partir deste trabalho, espera-se abrir caminho para futuras investigações em programas de Divulgação Científica e Cultural e o fortalecimento da área de estudo no país Abstract: In order to educate anyone in the contemporary world, the notion of what happens in Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) is vital, i.e., their main findings, methods, uses, risks and limitations as well as the interests and decisions that govern their processes and applications. Beyond formal education and science education, the building of a Scientific Culture in society also depends on several factors from the social environment, which often belong to the universe of non-formal education, such as access to various means of information, to scientific and cultural centers, to places for civic debates, to cultural offerings, such as theater, cinema, fairs, among others. Therefore, this study aimed to identify and analyze the Scientific Culture of Primary Education teachers and future teachers, both undergraduate students in the Education Course from Universidade Aberta do Brasil (Open University of Brazil - UAB) from UFMG, in order to reflect on the formation of this culture and development process, as well as evaluating their pedagogical practices for science teaching and discussions about ST&I. The study, which is a single case study (YIN, 2001), includes bibliographical and documentary research, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data collected from the questionnaires based on Public Understanding of Science models and from the semistructured interviews conducted with a stratified sample of the research public and crossed analysis between the data collected and evidence. The study corpus consists of 155 course participants, from the 2011 course, from five towns, in Minas Gerais (Araçuaí, Campos Gerais, Formiga, Governador Valadares e Teófilo Otoni). The results show that there is an interconnectedness and an interdependence between the eight rings of Teachers' Scientific Culture (model created by research), as follows: sociodemographic characteristics, culture, reading and access to places of science and culture; main issues of interest; informative habits; scientific information; participation in ST&I issues; imaginary on ST&I and on the scientist; and pedagogical practice. It also reveals that there are gaps on cultural offers and on the access to qualified information in the regions where this public lives, with significant losses in the teachers' scientific and cultural formation and pedagogical practices. Most teachers consider important to use media in the classroom as a teaching resource which motivates learning, but they also believe that the ST&I news are complex and difficult to understand. It is also evident that are expectations not covered in the course, mainly about didactics in the classroom, such as examples of what to do in different situations, and what paradidactic resources can be used to boost classes. From this research, it is expected to strengthen future research programs on Scientific and Cultural Communication study area in the country Mestrado Divulgação Científica e Cultural Mestra em Divulgação Científica e Cultural

- Abstract
We investigated the experience of five groups of teenagers when visiting the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FECTI), with the aim of analyzing the dynamics of visitors in this space, in particular, how they interacted with exhibitors, exhibition objects and among them. Data collection was performed with subjective cameras attached to one adolescent per group and the videos were analyzed with a research protocol that allows the most frequent types of conversations and interactions to be revealed during the visit. We identified that, on the one hand, visitors performed a participatory appropriation of the science fair, choosing and negotiating scientific themes of interest from previous experiences and knowledge about the group and involving creative efforts to understand, contribute and integrate with the dynamics of the fair; on the other hand, there were few cases in which it was possible to identify conversations in which they were engaged in science content in their relationship with exhibitors. These results can be an indicator of the need to think about other dynamics and formats of science fairs to integrate the visitors.

- Abstract
- Abstract
We analyze the experience of five groups of teenagers in the exhibition about the physics of sports, aiming to understand how they interact with the explainers, the exhibition and with each other, as well as the content of their conversations during the visit. The groups' routes were recorded with a subjective camera and analyzed using a research protocol. In the analysis, we observed that the interaction of visitors with the explainers prevailed over the interaction of visitors with each other, especially in conversations focused on scientific issues, associations with previous experiences and conversations about the design and use of exhibition objects. The studies indicate that the exhibition managed to engage teenagers around scientific issues and the choice of the theme “sports” seems to have helped in this regard. The study provides subsidies for reflection on the ways of mediating science exhibitions and challenges to be explored in future studies and in training for explainers. We expect this study to be an important step in fostering the culture of adolescents in attending scientific-cultural spaces, since it seeks to understand interests, conversations, ways of interacting.

SCIENTIFIC communication , *TRAVELING exhibitions , *PUBLIC finance , *OPTIONS (Finance) , *PUBLIC institutions , *EXPLORATORY factor analysis - Abstract
This exploratory and documental investigation study aims to identify and analyze the travelling science communication initiatives financed by the public calls for the popularization of science by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) between 2003 and 2015. A total sample consisted of 245 projects approved in 26 tenders studied. For analysis, mixed methods that explore quantitative and qualitative data were applied. The results show that, in general, the tenders obtained, over the years, adhesion of public institutions in the country. The diversity of mobile science communication activities stood out (primarily projects proposed traveling exhibitions, followed by workshops, courses, and astronomy actions). Still, we also noted the varied range of themes and the close relationship with the school public. All states had at least one approved proposal demonstrating that this public policy could reach different regions and potentially favor populations that do not have access to science communication. Most projects came from universities and public research institutions, underlining their role in popularizing science in the country. We conclude by highlighting the relevance of developing this type of study to understand the complexity and scope of public policies aimed at popularizing science and technology in the country and supporting future practices. AQUARIUMS , *CONVERSATION analysis , *TEENAGERS , *SCIENTIFIC communication , *RESEARCH protocols - Abstract
This qualitative study analyses conversations among teens during a visit to AquaRio, the Marine Aquarium of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, aiming to elucidate how they engage, participate and what interests them the most when having this experience. Twenty teenagers, divided into groups, were invited to visit the aquarium in an out-of-school context and answer pre- and post-visit questionnaires to characterize their sociocultural profiles, interest in Science and Technology issues, opinions on their experiences during the visit. Their visits were recorded with a subjective camera, and the videos were later coded using a research protocol focused on conversation content. We found that the most frequent conversations revolved around: the exhibit itself (function, design, and experience); their visit and observation of the animals and tanks with links drawn to the teens' universe; and associations with prior or personal knowledge. They commented on the experience while observing exhibit elements, lighting, and signage texts. Movies, cartoons, related fictional characters, and elements of daily life came up repeatedly during their conversations. According to our findings, there is evidence that the adolescents enjoyed the visit and were highly engaged, as expressed in their delight over the animals and the exhibit environment. Finally, we argue that a great challenge for aquariums staff is to design circulation paths, exhibits, and activities that meet adolescents' interests and thus provide conservation education experiences that are perceived as enjoyable and engaging.
