Abstract

Applying nitrogen fertilizers in agriculture can cause uncontrolled gas emissions, such as N2O and CO2, leading to global warming and serious climate changes. In this study, we evaluated the greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) that are concomitant with applying different rates of N fertilization, i.e., 50, 75, 100, and 125% of the recommended dose (727 kg N ha−1) for two cultivars (Balady and Sids-40) of Allium sativum L. grown under three planting dates (15 September, 1 October, and 15 October). For this purpose, two field experiments were carried out during the two growing seasons of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. Treatments were arranged in a split–split plot design with three replicates: planting dates were set up in the main plots, nitrogen levels were conducted in the submain plots, and garlic varieties were in the sub-subplots. The obtained results can be summarized as follows: Planting on 15 September significantly increased vegetative growth parameters (i.e., plant height, leaves area, number of leaves plant−1, and leaves dry weight) and total bulb yield, in both seasons. The application of the highest rate of N (125%) gave significantly higher records for vegetative growth parameters, while the 75% nitrogen treatment appeared to give the highest total bulb yield in both seasons. The means of plant growth characteristics and total bulb yield were significantly increased by the cultivation of the Balady cultivar. In addition, the results show that GHGs were positively correlated with increasing the rate of N fertilization. It could be recommended that planting on 15 September and fertilizing with 75% N fertilizer from the recommended dose for Balady cultivar achieve maximum yield and its components.

Abstract

Background: Indoxyl sulfate (IS) is a non-dialyzable gut-derived uremic toxin that is reported to be cardiotoxic in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease stages. Aim of the Work: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of IS as a risk factor for cardiovascular complications in children with end stage kidney disease (ESKD) on regular HD. Patients and Methods: This is a cross-sectional analytical study that included children with ESKD on regular hemodialysis (HD) for at least 6 months following at Nephrology Unit of Cairo University Pediatric Hospitals. Serum IS level was measured for all patients by the enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Cardiac complications was assessed using the M mode and 2D transthoracic echocardiography. Results: The study comprised 88 children with ESKD on regular HD for a mean ± SD of 31.94 ± 26.05 months, with a mean age ± SD of 9 ± 3.2 years (range 3.3- 14 years). Of them 52 (59.1%) were males. Obstructive uropathy (28.4%), and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (20.5%), were the main causes of ESKD in the study group. Abstract

Under sandy soil conditions, increasing the efficiency of potassium (K) fertilizers is considered to be a major limiting factor for improving the productivity and quality of fruit crops. In this context, utilizing nanotechnology has emerged as a novel technique to increase the efficiency of K applications. In our study, two field trials were conducted, in two consecutive seasons (2019/2020 and 2020/2021), to compare the effects of nano-chitosan loaded with K as a foliar treatment with those of conventional soil applications of K on plant growth, yield, and quality of strawberry plants grown in sandy soil. Strawberry plants were treated with 12 different treatments, which were replicated three times in a randomized complete block design in each growing season. Potassium sulfate (K2SO4, 48% K2O) was applied to the soil at a rate of 150.0 kg acre−1 (recommended rate, 100%). Meanwhile, the spraying of nano-chitosan loaded with K was applied at 1000 mg L−1 as a control. In addition, K2SO4 was applied either individually or in combination at the rate of 112.5 or 75.0 kg acre−1 with four nano-chitosan-K dosages (250, 500, 750, and 1000 mg L−1). After harvesting, soil samples were collected and prepared to determine K fractions. As well, plant samples were collected to determine the vegetative growth parameters and the foliage content of NPK and chlorophyll. Eventually, the yield traits and quality parameters were evaluated. A principal component analysis was conducted to determine the interrelationships of the treatments’ averages and their effects on yield components and quality traits. A combined analysis was performed for the two studied seasons and the values were the mean of six replications. The results indicated that the application of common K fertilizer (150.0 kg K2SO4 acre−1) resulted in the maximum increase in soluble and exchangeable K in the soil, which was comparable to those observed with 112.5 kg K2SO4 acre−1 + 1000 mg L−1 nano-chitosan-K and 112.5 K2SO4 acre−1 + 750 mg L−1 nano-chitosan-K. The total yield, marketable yield, and fruit firmness were all significantly increased by the latter two treatments compared to the control group. Furthermore, plots treated with 112.5 kg K2SO4 acre−1 + 1000 mg L−1 nano-chitosan-K significantly increased the total soluble solids, vitamin C levels, acidity, total sugar, and anthocyanin levels in strawberry fruits. In conclusion, under sandy soil conditions, the utilization of nanoparticles could be an indispensable tool for manipulating fertilization management when cultivating strawberries. The K status of the soil was improved by applying 75% of the recommended dose of mineral K in combination with 1000 or 750 mg L−1 of nano-chitosan-K, without compromising strawberry yield or quality.

تسعى هذه الدراسة على التعرف على أثر النوع في إدراك الأطفال لحقوقهم وواجباتهم في مجتمع الامارات، وذلك عن الطريق مدى الوعي لحقوقهم والمتمثلة في مجالات التالية وهي: حق التعليم وحق الحماية وحق الصحة، وحق الطفل بشكل عام. وقد تم تصميم استبانة موجة للأطفال في مدارس إمارة الشارقة والذين تتراوح أعمارهم من 12-18 سنة وتم تطبيقها على طلبة والعدد الكلي 270 (80 طالب و190 طالبة) من خلال استخدام طريقة العينة غير الاحتمالية (الغرضية). وكشفت نتائج الدراسة أثر النوع في مدى معرفة الأطفال من الجنسين لحقوقهم وواجباتهم في حق التعليم، وحق الحماية، وحق الصحة، وحق الطفل بشكل عام، لوجود هناك دلالات إحصائية لكل حق وأن الذكور لهم النصيب الأكبر عن الإناث في معرفة حقوقهم.

This study aimed to determine the effects of wood dust exposure on carpenters pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters. Methods: This comparative cross-sectional community-based study included 130 participants; a group of carpenters and a matched cohort. Standard techniques were used to measure each participant's force vital capacity (FVC), force expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), FEV1/FVC ratio, and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). Statistical tests were employed to investigate different variables. A P value of < 0.05 is considered significant. Results: Carpenters had a mean age of 51.6 ± 19.9 years, whereas the matched cohort had a mean age of 49.8 ± 13.9 years. Approximately 23 (35.4%) carpenters experienced respiratory problems. Carpenters had significantly lower FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC%, and PEFR values than the matched cohort (P < 0.001). Additionally, the association between the carpenters duration of exposure to wood dust and their PFT values showed a significant statistical difference (P < 0.05). Likewise, the correlation between the duration of exposure to wood dust and their PFT values was significant (< 0.001). Conclusions: Wood Dust's Effects on carpenters' respiratory systems are worth further discussion. Awareness campaigns should be undertaken to educate carpenters about lung health and preventative measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Most studies of immunity to SARS-CoV-2 focus on circulating antibody, giving limited insights into mucosal defences that prevent viral replication and onward transmission. We studied nasal and plasma antibody responses one year after hospitalisation for COVID-19, including a period when SARS-CoV-2 vaccination was introduced. Methods: In this follow up study, plasma and nasosorption samples were prospectively collected from 446 adults hospitalised for COVID-19 between February 2020 and March 2021 via the ISARIC4C and PHOSP-COVID consortia. IgA and IgG responses to NP and S of ancestral SARS-CoV-2, Delta and Omicron (BA.1) variants were measured by electrochemiluminescence and compared with plasma neutralisation data. Findings: Strong and consistent nasal anti-NP and anti-S IgA responses were demonstrated, which remained elevated for nine months (p < 0.0001). Nasal and plasma anti-S IgG remained elevated for at least 12 months (p < 0.0001) with plasma neutralising titres that were raised against all variants compared to controls (p < 0.0001). Of 323 with complete data, 307 were vaccinated between 6 and 12 months; coinciding with rises in nasal and plasma IgA and IgG anti-S titres for all SARS-CoV-2 variants, although the change in nasal IgA was minimal (1.46-fold change after 10 months, p = 0.011) and the median remained below the positive threshold determined by pre-pandemic controls. Samples 12 months after admission showed no association between nasal IgA and plasma IgG anti-S responses (R = 0.05, p = 0.18), indicating that nasal IgA responses are distinct from those in plasma and minimally boosted by vaccination. Interpretation: The decline in nasal IgA responses 9 months after infection and minimal impact of subsequent vaccination may explain the lack of long-lasting nasal defence against reinfection and the limited effects of vaccination on transmission. News articles vary considerably in ideological perspective depending on the type and the stance of the newspaper. The present study employs CDA approach with a view of assessing the Western and Arab newspaper articles motivated by a specific ideology with regard to the ongoing conflict between Turkey and Russia after the downing of the Russian Su-24 on 24 November 2015. It aims at showing how the portrayal of the Self and Other reveal the hidden ideologies of these newspapers. Additionally, the present study aims to explore the evaluative stances and attitudinal positioning of Western and Arab newspapers. The study draws on Van Dijk’s (1998) ideological square of positive Self-presentation and negative Other – presentation to clarify different views and ideologies. The Appraisal model is the linguistic framework employed in the current study at both qualitative and quantitative levels. The data comprises of 68 articles taken from Western newspapers and news agencies and 30 news report from the Arab newspapers. The findings of the analysis in both Arab and Western Newspapers indicate that the number of judgmental resources exceeds that of affectual resources in both Western and the Arab newspapers. This means there is an emphasis on constructing an ideology that appeals to the readers’ moral and social rather than emotional aspects that invites the readers' sympathy.

Abstract

Embedded under the theory of dynamic capabilities, this study aims to identify how the pharmaceutical industry can achieve innovation performance using supply chain collaboration strategies, and how this relationship is affected by factors such as supply chain competence and absorptive capacity. The present study is underpinned by the dynamic capabilities’ theory as its primary guiding framework. Drawing on dynamic capabilities’ theory, the researcher embedded the present research under a positivist paradigm and adopted a deductive approach. In other words, the research was carried out using quantitative methodology whereby survey responses were collected from 351 pharmaceutical manufacturing industry members. Analysis of the data was carried out using Structured Equation Modelling (SEM) and revealed several key insights. The present research identifies that strategic relationship with supply chain partner is positively linked to innovation performance. In addition, supply chain competence mediates the relationship between supply chain collaboration strategies (strategic relationship with supply chain partner and supplier involvement in NPD) and innovation performance of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. It was also noted that supply chain competence was found to have a positive association with innovation performance. Abstract

Aging is associated with reduced hippocampal neurogenesis, which may in turn contribute to cognitive impairment. We assessed the effect of Ginkgo biloba (Gb) on hippocampal neurogenesis in elderly male mice using immunohistochemistry. We used anti-caspase-3 as a marker of apoptosis, anti-GFAP as a marker of neural stem cells, anti-Ki-67 as a specific marker for cellular proliferation and anti-doublecortin (DCX) to detect newly born neurons in the hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) of aged male mice. The 24-month-old male mice were divided into two groups: a control group treated with distilled water and a group fed with Gb at a dose of 100 mg/kg once daily for 28 days. A sharp decrease in apoptotic cells in Gb-treated compared to nontreated mice was observed by anti-csapase-3 immunostaining. A large number of GFAP+ve cells was found in the subgranular zone of the DG of Gb-treated mice, suggesting an increase in the pool of neural stem cells by Gb treatment. There was also an increase in Ki-67 immunoreactive cells, indicating increased cell proliferation in the DG in the Gb-treated compared to nontreated group. A significant increase in newborn DCX+ve neurons with well-developed tertiary dendrites was also found in the Gb-treated compared to nontreated group. Using Western blot analysis, the expression of DCX protein in the Gb group was also significantly increased compared to the control. The results support a beneficial role of Gb on hippocampal neurogenesis in the context of brain aging.

Abstract

Background: Hepatitis C Virus infection is a major health problem causing significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. The oral cavity is one of the most frequently reported extra-hepatic disease site associated with it. It has been suggested that HCV is a possible triggering factor for precancerous and cancerous oral lesions. The aim of this study was to detect HCV core antigen in oral squamous cell carcinoma in comparison with normal mucosa tissues (control) using immunohistochemistry, to detect the possible relationship between HCV and OSCC. Material and Methods: A total of 50 archival paraffin embedded specimens were collected (25 OSCC specimens with 25 control specimens) and HCV core antigen was evaluated by immunohisto chemistry. The localization of HCV core antigen were evaluated in both groups. All cells displaying nuclear HCV core antigen immunostaining were counted. Results: Overall frequency of HCV in OSCC cases was higher than in controls, and a highly significant difference was observed between them (p < 0.01). Correlation of HCV positivity with the characteristics of OSCC cases were noncontributory. The greatest cell count was recorded in poorly-differentiated OSCC, whereas the lowest value was recorded in control (P<0.001). Conclusion: HCV core antigen was frequently detected in OSCC. In addition, remaining silent about significant issues facing nurses is a devastating approach to the success of both healthcare organizations and the nursing profession.A cross‐sectional descriptive correlational exploratory research design was used to conduct the study. Data were collected from 352 nurses recruited from three large university hospitals in Alexandria, Egypt. Four instruments, namely, the Workplace Ostracism Questionnaire, the Organizational Silence Scale, the Active Procrastination Scale, and the Unintentional Procrastination Scale, were used. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypothesized relationships among the variables.The findings demonstrated a significant positive and moderate association between workplace ostracism and both active and passive procrastination behaviors among nurses. Moreover, there was a strong positive and significant correlation between organizational silence and workplace ostracism. The results of mediation revealed that the indirect effect of workplace ostracism on both active and passive procrastination behavior through organizational silence was statistically significant, suggesting that organizational silence partially mediated this relationship.The study highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by toxic workplace issues, such as organizational ostracism and silence, as significant factors contributing to nurses' procrastination behaviors. Not only do these factors directly impact nurses' productivity, but they also interact to exacerbate negative outcomes in nursing care. Addressing these toxic dynamics is critical to improving nurse performance and ensuring quality care in healthcare settings.This study offers new insights for navigating toxicity and upgrading nursing productivity in healthcare organizations through fostering a more inclusive and communicative work environment. Promoting team cohesion and ensuring that all staff members feel valued and included can reduce feelings of isolation that may lead to procrastination. Abstract

Keloid disease is a benign but progressive form of abnormal wound healing associated with skin fibrosis and can cause a major functional disability and morbidity. TGF beta (TGFβ) and Nitric Oxide (NO) are active biomarkers known to regulate phases of wound healing and have been implicated in pathogenesis of fibrotic disease. There are three isoforms of TGFβ (1, 2 and 3), TGFβ1 and 3 have a crucial role in fibrosis, with TGFβ1 profibrotic and TGFβ3 antifibrotic. NO is produced by Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS) which exist in three isoforms, inducible NOS (iNOS), endothelial NOS (ecNOS) and neuronal NOS (nNOS). TGFβ isoforms and NO were found to be associated with fibrotic disorders affecting the skin. We hypothesis that the interaction between TGFβ and NO in keloid could promote the excessive collagen deposition associated with this disorder. Using immunohistochemistry, we investigated the profile of TGFβ isoforms (TGFβ1, 3) and NOS isoforms (iNOS and ecNOS) in keloid tissues and normal human skin. The cellular distribution of all the isoforms were studied and the protein levels were assessed by using H-Scoring and Image J Scoring systems. Abstract

Breast cancer is currently the top cancer in women in the entire world, the most common cancer site in the 13 administrative regions of Saudi Arabia was breast cancer the leading cancer among women. Cervical cancer ranks as the 2nd most frequent cancer in women between 15-44years of age. Incidence of cervical cancer in Saudi Arabia was 4.6 per 100.000 women. Our aim to evaluate level of knowledge regarding cervical and breast cancer among young females. A cross –sectional study was conducted from young females at science& Art College and health science college. Interviewing structured questionnaire was used to collect data.; the questionnaire divided into three parts covered socio demographic data, breast cancer knowledge and cervical cancer knowledge among 215 students' with different age, parity and marital status were selected randomly. Out of 215 female student mean age was 22.6(9.4), 58% of study sample had unsatisfactory level of knowledge regarding cervical and breast cancer, only 21.9% Know HPV vaccine, Television and radio were the most frequent 74.9%, 59.5% source of knowledge about breast and cervical cancer among study sample. In conclusion more efforts must be focused in provide proper education and reassurance our young females about danger health issues .

Intra cranial aneurysms are acquired lesions responsible for about 80% of non-traumatic sub arachnoid hemorrhage. Treatment of the condition in the past has relied on craniotomy and clipping of the aneurysm to prevent a recurrent hemorrhage. Nowadays endovascular coiling is the best primary treatment. The anesthesia in interventional radiology room has special arrangement and precautions. Intra operative management of endovascular cerebral aneurysm from the start including: arrangement of the room, monitoring, induction, maintenance and emergence of the patients. Post-operative care is very important and good management of potential perioperative complications like: aneurysm rupture, cerebral infarction, cerebral vasospasm, contrast reaction and nephropathy is mandatory. Aim of the Study: reviewing the current medical literature as regards the anesthetic considerations and problems of endo-vascular management of intracranial aneurysm.
