Objective:No data have yet been published revealing the composition and the diversity of fungal communities (mycobiome) in the human middle ear cavity. The presented study investigated the mycobiome in the middle ear cavities of individuals with healthy middle ears and patients with otitis media with effusion.Methods:A total of 77 middle ear and four adenoid samples were collected from 47 individuals (35 children and 12 adults) in Group 1 and from 20 children in Group 2. The mycobiome profile was analyzed with nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) based metabarcoding using an Illumina MiSeq metagenomics kit.Results:ITS2-based metabarcoding detected 14 different genera and 17 different species with a mean relative abundance of ≥1% in the samples analyzed. Mycobiome profile was similar between the adenoid tissue and the middle ear cavity, between Groups 1 and Group 2, and between children and adults. Fusarium, Stemphylium, Candida, and Cladosporium were the most abundant genera detected in all samples. The mean relative abundances of the genera Candida and Fusarium were remarkably higher in Group 2 compared to Group 1.Conclusion:The species Candida glaebosa, Candida cretensis, Aspergillus ruber, Penicillium desertorum, and Rhizopus arrhizus were significantly more abundant in patients with otitis media with effusion (OME), raising the possibility that they affect the pathogenesis of OME.

Conventional energy use causes various environmental impacts of global warming. Also, as a result, renewable energy sources are more beneficial because they generate virtually no emissions. Biogas is historically recognized as a by-product of the anaerobic (oxygen-free) decomposition of agricultural waste. One of the most critical issues for biogas plants in electricity production is the economically and environmentally safe disposal of vast volumes of digestate. In this study, an extensive pathway for the establishment of a large-scale biogas energy plant was presented. Under these lightings, a case plant built in Akçadağ-Malatya was investigated from the techno-economic point of view. The case plant was built to generate heat and power as well as solid and liquid fertilizer. The produced biogas and methane were respectively recorded as 229,49 m3/h and 139,08 m3/h. It was determined that electricity generation in an amount of 5,256,000 kWh per year from the digested feedstock was available with the maximum power capacity of 625 kWh. The annual and daily heat energy outputs were calculated as 6,482,400 kWh and 640 kWh, respectively. The solid and liquid fertilizers were respectively determined as 40,891.03 t/a and 5,152.74 t/a. According to the results, total investment costs per the produced electricity for the biogas energy plant were calculated as 1451.53 €/kWh. The payback period was calculated as 2.22 with a net present value of 944,714.44 €. CO2 emissions have been reduced by 14,105 tons per year thanks to the co-generation system.

In this study, the thermal performance of vacuumed copper pipe has been experimentally investigated by using different volume values of 5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml, and 20 ml with inclination angles of 45°, 60°, and 90° for variable vacuum pressures. For this purpose, the inner, outer diameter, and length of the vacuumed pipes filled with the distilled water were 26 mm, 28 mm, and 1500 mm, respectively. This copper pipe was vacuumed until the absolute pressure of 6.32 kPa and immersed in a heat source at a constant temperature of 82°C at the beginning of the experiments. The surface temperatures of the vacuumed pipes were measured at twenty different points by using K-type thermocouples in two different data loggers. All calculations were performed as variable saturation temperatures at variable vacuum pressures with changing the time. According to the results, the experimental boiling heat transfer coefficients showed a good agreement with the correlations in the literature. Also, the best thermal resistance was obtained in the vacuumed copper pipe with a water volume of 10 ml at the inclination angle of 90° until the end of the experiment.

Introduction. Although the incidence of pregnancy-associated sacroiliitis is low, it is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Timely diagnosis of the disease is confusing due to its nonspecific clinical features. Case. A 28-year-old woman at 34 weeks of gestation with severe pain in her right buttock radiating down the backside of the right thigh was admitted to our hospital. White blood cell (WBC) count and C-reactive protein (CRP) were elevated. The pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan revealed right sacroiliitis. Conclusion. Infectious sacroiliitis should be considered as a differential diagnosis even in low-risk women who present with debilitating pelvic pain in pregnancy and medical treatment should not be delayed.

Kişinin kendi annesini öldürmesi, üzerinde çok çalışılan bir konu olmasına karşın mekanizmaları ve güdülerinin kolaylıkla tespit edilemediği görülmektedir. Bu yazıda annesini öldüren, dört kişiyi yaralayan ve ayağına ateş ederek parmaklarını kopardıktan sonra götürüldüğü hastanede üçüncü kattan atlayarak intihar girişiminde bulunan ve DSM IV tanı ölçütlerine göre Paranoid Şizofreni tanısı almış bir olgu takdim edilmiştir. Yapılan matrisid çalışmalarının çoğunda, kişilerin olgumuzda olduğu gibi, ağır şiddet davranışı gösterdiği, en küçük erkek evlat olduğu, annelerini kendi yatak odalarında öldürdüğü ve annelerine karşı çift cieğerlikli (ambivalan) bir bağlılık içinde bulundukları bildirilmiştir. Bu makalede, annesini öldürdüğü sırada psikotik bir tablo içinde bulunan, annesini hem kendi varlığına karşı bir tehdit olarak gören hem de aşırı sevgiye bağlı koruma ve kurtarma özellikleri bulunan bir olgu, matrisidal şizofreniklerin özellikleri bağlamında tartışılmıştır. Results obtained from the chemical analyses and semi-quantitative optical emission analyses of the Mazıdağı phosphates, found in the Karataş area, are evaluated in this paper. Applying the geochemical relationships between U, P2O5 and U and F elements, reserves of the whole area were evaluated as 7,419.5 tons of U3O8 and 2,722, 207 tons of F. Mineralogical study of these phosphates indicates that dahllite and cellophane, which constitute the bulk of phosphate minerals in the Mazıdağı rocks, contain elements such as U and F, as well as trace elements like V, Yb and Y. When quantitative analyses of the latter group of trace elements are completed, it will be possible to calculate their reserves, which, it is believed, will increase the economic value of the Mazıdağı phosphates. Moreover, it is considered that these phosphate minerals also contain some sulfur, but this can only be confirmed by further mineralogical and chemical studies. A wide bibliographic study was also carried out on the recovery of uranium from similar phosphate beds in other parts of the world, and it showed that important work was done and various methods were developed. It is suggested that laboratory tests should be carried out on both uranium and other trace elements, such as F, V, Y, etc. for their economic recovery by using one or combining several of these methods.

Fluorine toxicity has negative effects on soft tissue besides skeletal and dental tissues. In the present study, we have investigated the protective effect of chitosan (CS) and chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) on liver tissue of fluorine-intoxicated rats taking the antioxidant characteristics of chitosan and its derivatives into consideration. In this study, 42 male Wistar albino rats were randomly selected to determine the control and experimental fluorosis groups. Our study lasted for 12 weeks. As a consequence of the study, MDA significantly increased in the liver tissue of NaF group while some antioxidant values significantly decreased. It was detected that serum AST and LDH levels increased significantly while ALB and TP values significantly decreased in NaF group. The degenerations were identified in the liver histopathology of all fluoride-treated groups. We have concluded according to the results that chitosan oligosaccharide can be more effective compared with chitosan.
