The pure CuO nanofibers were synthesized via the electrospinning method successfully. The calcinated CuO nanofibers were investigated for sensing hydrogen and carbon monoxide gases. Structural properties of the synthesized calcinated nanofibers were studied using Fourier –transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and particle morphology by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM images confirmed string-like structures, nanofibers. The sensor based on the calcinated CuO nanofibers exhibited excellent gas sensing performance at the low operating temperature of 175 °C and the fast response and recovery characteristics at a low concentration. Moreover, good stability, prominent reproducibility, and excellent selectivity are also observed based on the calcinated nanofibers. These results demonstrate the potential application of calcinated CuO nanofibers for sensing hydrogen (10–200 ppm) and carbon monoxide (400–700 ppm) gases.

The fourth annual summer research summit organized by the Center of Excellence (COE) in Health Equity, Training and Research, Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) was held on May 20, 2021. The theme of this year’s summit was ‘Strengthening Our Commitment to Racial and Social Justice to Improve Public Health.’ Given the ongoing pandemic, the summit was conducted virtually through digital platforms. This program was intended for both BCM and external audiences interested in advancing health equity, diversity and inclusion in healthcare among healthcare providers and trainees, biomedical scientists, social workers, nurses, individuals involved in talent acquisition and development such as hiring managers (HR professionals), supervisors, college and hospital affiliate leadership and administrators, as well as diversity and inclusion excellence practitioners. We had attendees from all regions of the United States, India, Pakistan and the Demographic Republic of the Congo. The content in this Book of Abstracts encapsulates a summary of the research efforts by the BCM COE scholars (which includes post-baccalaureate students, medical students, clinical fellows and junior faculty from BCM) as well as the external summit participants. The range of topics in this year’s summit was quite diverse encompassing disparities in relation to maternal and child health (MCH), immigrant heath, cancers, vaccination uptakes and COVID-19 infections. Various solutions were ardently presented to address these disparities including community engagement and partnerships, improvement in health literacy and development of novel technologies and therapeutics. With this summit, BCM continues to build on its long history of educational outreach initiatives to promote diversity in medicine by focusing on programs aimed at increasing the number of diverse and highly qualified medical professionals ready to introduce effective and innovative approaches to reduce or eliminate health disparities. These programs will improve information resources, clinical education, curricula, research and cultural competence as they relate to minority health issues and social determinants of health. The summit received very positive response in terms of zealous participation and outstanding evaluations; and overall, it was a great success. Copyright © 2021 Lopez et al. ABSTRACT Background Recently, microRNAs (miRNAs) have been applied as biomarkers for diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients. Early diagnosis and management of DLBCL can improve patient survival and prognosis. Aims This systematic review and meta‐analysis aimed to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic accuracy of miRNA biomarkers in DLBCL patients. Methods We used the keywords “diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma” and “microRNA” to search databases for original publications until June 14, 2023. Specificity, sensitivity, and AUC were used to assess diagnostic accuracy, and the prognostic value was assessed using the overall survival (OS) and progression‐free survival (PFS) hazard ratio (HR). A subgroup analysis was performed based on the sample type acquired to investigate the heterogeneity. Results Thirteen diagnostic and 33 prognostic studies were included from 839 articles. The Reitsma bivariate model estimated a sensitivity of 0.788 (95% CI: 0.733–0.834, p < 0.001), a specificity of 0.727 (95% CI: 0.654–0.790, p < 0.001), and an AUC of 0.824 in. Background Limited data exist on long‐term outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). This meta‐analysis aims to elucidate outcome trends following TAVR versus SAVR in patients with severe aortic stenosis and low‐surgical risk. Methods and Results A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library databases from inception until May 2024, to identify studies comparing TAVR versus SAVR in patients with low‐surgical risk (Society of Thoracic Surgeons predicted risk of mortality score 1‐year follow‐ups. TAVR was associated with a significantly lower risk of cardiovascular mortality, disabling stroke, rehospitalization, new‐onset atrial fibrillation, and a higher risk of permanent pacemaker implantation compared with SAVR during the 30‐day follow‐up. Conclusions TAVR was associated with a lower risk of all‐cause mortality within the first year of post‐procedural follow‐up compared with SAVR. However, the risk of all‐cause mortality was similar in >1‐year follow‐ups.

Background: The no-reflow (NRF) phenomenon is the “Achilles heel” of interventionists after performing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). No definitive treatment has been proposed for NRF, and preventive strategies are central to improving care for patients who develop NRF. Objectives: In this study, we aim to investigate the clinical prediction models developed to predict NRF in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI. Design: Systematic review. Data sources and methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were observed. Studies that developed clinical prediction modeling for NRF after primary PCI in STEMI patients were included. Data extraction was performed using the Checklist for Critical Appraisal and Data Extraction for Systematic Reviews of Prediction Modeling Studies (CHARMS) checklist. The Prediction Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST) tool was used for critical appraisal of the included studies. Results: The three most common predictors were age, total ischemic time, and preoperative thrombolysis in myocardial infarction flow grade. Most of the included studies internally validated their developed model via various methods: random split, bootstrapping, and cross-validation. Only three studies (18%) externally validated their model. Six studies (37%) reported a calibration plot with or without the Hosmer–Lemeshow test. The reported area under the curve ranged from 0.648 to 0.925. The most common biases were in the statistical domain. Conclusion: Clinical prediction models aid in individualizing care for STEMI patients with NRF after primary PCI. Of the 16 included studies, we report four to have a low risk of bias and low concern with regard to our research question, which should undergo external validation with or without updating in future studies. Jargon summary Introduction: Heart attacks, or acute myocardial infarctions (MI), are severe consequences of coronary artery disease. One type, ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), requires prompt treatment to restore blood flow and prevent severe complications. The preferred treatment is primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, sometimes blood flow remains poor despite successful PCI, a condition known as the no-reflow (NRF) phenomenon, which can lead to worse outcomes. Study Goal: This study reviews and evaluates existing models that predict NRF in STEMI patients undergoing PCI to help doctors identify and prevent this complication. Methods: We systematically searched databases for studies on NRF prediction models in STEMI patients. We included studies that developed these models and evaluated their risk of bias and applicability. Key Findings: - Search Results: Out of 7,095 citations, 16 studies were reviewed. - Study Locations: Studies were mainly conducted in China, Turkey, and a few other countries. - Predictors: Common predictors of NRF included age, total ischemic time, and preoperative blood flow. The models used various data like patient demographics, lab results, and clinical observations. - Model Performance: Models showed varying levels of accuracy in predicting NRF. Most models used logistic regression for development. Internal validation was done in several studies, but external validation was limited. Implications: - Clinical Use: Predictive models can help in timely decision-making during PCI. However, current models need more validation and improvement in their design to be widely accepted in clinical practice. - Future Research: More robust, prospective studies are needed, especially in diverse populations, to develop and validate better prediction models. Conclusion: This review highlights the need for better predictive models for NRF in STEMI patients. Existing models show promise but require further refinement and validation to improve their clinical utility.

Abstract Background Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is an underdiagnosed cause of acute coronary syndrome, particularly in younger women. Due to limited information about SCAD, case reports and case series can provide valuable insights into its features and management. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the features of SCAD patients who experienced psychophysical stress before the SCAD event. Methods We conducted an electronic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from inception until January 7, 2023. We included case reports or series that described patients with SCAD who had experienced psychophysical stress before SCAD. Patients with pregnancy-associated SCAD were excluded from our analysis. Results In total, we included 93 case reports or series describing 105 patients with SCAD. The average patient age was 44.29 ± 13.05 years and a total of 44 (41.9%) of patients were male. Among the included SCAD patients the most prevalent comorbidities were fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) and hypertension with the prevalence of 36.4 and 21.9%, respectively. Preceding physical stress was more frequently reported in men than in women; 38 out of 44 (86.4%) men reported physical stress, while 36 out of 61 (59.1%) females reported physical stress (p value = 0.009). Abstract Background Impaired immune response in multiple myeloma renders the patients vulnerable to infections, such as COVID-19, and may cause worse response to vaccines. Researchers should analyze this issue to enable the planning for special preventive measures, such as increased booster doses. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the response and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in patients with multiple myeloma. Methods This meta-analysis followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines, conducting a comprehensive database search using specified keywords. Study selection involved a two-phase title/abstract and full-text screening process. Data extraction was performed by two researchers, and statistical analysis involved meta-analysis, subgroup analysis based on vaccine dosage and study time, random effects meta-regression, and heterogeneity testing using the Q test. Results The meta-analysis revealed that patients with multiple myeloma (MM) had a lower likelihood of developing detectable antibodies after COVID-19 vaccination compared to healthy controls (Log odds ratio with 95% CI: -3.34 [-4.08, -2.60]). The analysis of antibody response after different doses showed consistent lower seropositivity in MM patients (after first dose: -2.09, [-3.49, -0.69], second: -3.80, 95%CI [-4.71, -3.01], a booster dose: -3.03, [-5.91, -0.15]). However, there was no significant difference in the mean level of anti-S antibodies between MM patients and controls (Cohen’s d -0.72, [-1.86, 0.43]). Evaluation of T-cell responses indicated diminished T-cell-mediated immunity in MM patients compared to controls. Seven studies reported clinical response, with breakthrough infections observed in vaccinated MM patients. Conclusions These findings highlight the impaired humoral and cellular immune responses in MM patients after COVID-19 vaccination, suggesting the need for further investigation and potential interventions.

ObjectiveThis study investigated the relationship between the long non-coding RNA Metastasis-Associated Lung Adenocarcinoma Transcript 1 (MALAT1) expression and colorectal cancer (CRC) using a thorough systematic review and meta-analysis.MethodsUnder the PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review was conducted on studies published from the databases' inception to September 18, 2023. Prognostic value and diagnostic accuracy were explored. Additionally, the association between levels of MALAT1 expression and pathological features was investigated. The statistical analysis was performed using the "meta" package of R.ResultsAmong the pathological parameters examined, based on three studies involving 51 cases of metastatic CRC and 135 cases of non-metastatic CRC, a statistically significant correlation was found between the expression level of MALAT1 and distant metastasis, with an OR of 16.0118 (95% CI: 4.5618-56.2015). Three studies involving 378 cases reported overall survival and had a pooled HR of 2.3854 (95% CI: 1.3272-4.2875). Three studies involving 436 cases reported disease-free survival and had a pooled HR of 2.4772 (95% CI: 1.3774-4.4549). All prognosis studies utilized tumor tissue samples as specimens to assess the expression level of MALAT1. Case-to-control diagnostic studies with 126 cases and 126 controls had a pooled AUC value of 0.6173 (95% CI: 0.5436-0.6909), a pooled sensitivity of 0.675 (95% CI: 0.324-0.900), and a pooled specificity of 0.771 (95% CI: 0.685-0.839).ConclusionsThe expression of MALAT1 in CRC is highly correlated with distant metastasis and has an impact on survival and prognosis. MALAT1 could also be employed as a diagnostic biomarker. More prospective studies should be performed to assess the MALAT1 diagnostic potential in the early stages of CRC.

Social trust and spiritual health play an important role in social communication. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between spiritual health and social trust among Iranian students. This cross-sectional study was conducted in the city of Sanandaj, in the West of Iran, in 2018. 686 students from 5 universities were included in the study through simple random sampling. The data were collected using established, reliable instruments for the assessment of social trust and spiritual health. Logistic regression models were applied to assess the association between social trust and spiritual health. We reported estimated logits and Odds Ratios (OR) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Background and Objectives: Considering the importance of prayer and its effect on personal characteristics, the present study was conducted to investigate the relationship of attitude and practical commitment to prayer with interpersonal communication skills among students of Sanandaj universities, Iran. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was carried out in 2019 in Sanandaj, located in the west of Iran. The statistical population of the study (n=686) was selected through simple random sampling of students from Sanandaj universities. The instrument utilized in the research was a three-part questionnaire, including demographic information, attitude and practical commitment to prayer, and interpersonal communication skills. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 21) using independent t-test, correlation, and logistic regression. Results: Based on the results of the regression test, a one-unit increase in attention to and practice of mustahabbat, commitment to perform prayers, and the effectiveness of prayer in individual and social life increased the possibility of having interpersonal communication skills with the odds ratios of 1.6, 1.11, and 1.09, respectively. Conclusion: It can be concluded that attitude and commitment to prayer played an important role in interpersonal communication skills. However, practical attitude and commitment to prayer and interpersonal communication skills were higher in students in lower semesters.

Introduction. Among atypical antipsychotics, none has been linked to torsade de pointes. In the present study, the electrocardiographic changes induced by olanzapine have been compared with risperidone. Method and Materials. 268 patients were entered into an open study for randomassignment to olanzapine or risperidone. ECG was taken at baseline and at the end of the treatment. The parameters that had been assessed included Q-T interval (corrected = Q-Tc) and other related parameters. Correction of the observed Q-T interval was done according to Frederica's formula (QTcF). Results. While 14.86% and 25% of the cases in the olanzapine group showed prolongation and shortening of QTcF, respectively, comparable changes in the risperidone group were restricted to its prolongation (32.5%). Comparison of means between baseline QTcF of risperidone group versus its posttreatment measurement showed a significant increment (P = 0.02). Also, the quantity of cases with shortening of QTcF in the olanzapine group was significantly more than its opposite (P = 0.02). Conclusion. Comparable propensity of olanzapine and risperidone for induction of electrocardiographic changes demands adequate cautiousness by clinicians, particularly with respect to shortening of Q-T interval, which was mainly noticeable in the olanzapine group. Background: Oral self-care behaviors are not satisfactory among pregnant women; incidence of gingivitis is high in them and training programs have slightly improved their gingivitis. This study was aimed to explore self-care needs of pregnant women suffering from gingival inflammation. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out in Sanandaj, west of Iran, in 2017. Twenty pregnant women with gingivitis were included in the study. Data were collected via semi-structured individual and group interviews and note-taking, and were analyzed by conventional content analysis. To confirm the accuracy and strength of the data, credibility, confirmability, and transferability components were taken into account. Results: The results of data analysis yielded six major categories, including “organizational support,” “dentist's professional competence,” “increasing perceived threat,” “increasing self-efficacy,” “increasing perceived benefits,” and “culture-making.” Increased self-efficacy was the most important concern of pregnant women. Conclusions: The findings showed that self-care behaviors to prevent gingivitis in pregnant women are influenced by various factors. It is essential to consider the cooperation of the media and organizations, support of society, and attention of families and authorities to oral health education and disease prevention among women.

Abstract Background and Aims The Hemorrhoidal Disease Symptom Score (HDSS) is a tool that is scored based on five main symptoms: pain, bleeding, itching, soiling, and prolapse. Furthermore, the Short Health Scale (SHS) is a measurement tool of subjective health and health‐related quality of life. This study was performed to validate the Farsi‐translated Hemorrhoidal Disease Symptom Score (HDSS), and Scale Short Health Scale adapted for hemorrhoidal disease (SHS‐HD) as a measure of symptom severity in patients with hemorrhoid disease. Methods In this study, HDSS and SHS‐HD were translated into Farsi. Participants with confirmed hemorrhoid disease completed the questionnaire. Subsequently, the questionnaire's discriminative validity, convergent validity, reliability, sensitivity, and specificity were evaluated. Results Data from 31 patients were analyzed (mean age 39.68; 71% male). The results of the analysis showed good internal consistency as Cronbach's α for HDSS and SHS were 0.994 and 0.995 respectively.
