Abstract Objectives To investigate the value of vascular morphology on high frame rate contrast-enhanced ultrasound (H-CEUS) and CEUS Li-RADS in predicting microvascular invasion (MVI), Ki-67 expression and recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods This retrospective study enrolled 78 patients with single HCC diagnosed by postoperative pathology between January 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022. All patients underwent ultrasound and H-CEUS examination before operation. H-CEUS image features and CEUS Li-RADS were compared in different MVI status and Ki-67 level. Abstract High signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) seismic waveform data are conductive to various studies in seismology. Seismic denoising aims to enhance SNR by eliminating additive noise through signal processing while preserving important features of the seismic signal. Conventional parametric seismic denoising methods often require selecting appropriate parameters to achieve optimal results, which may be limiting when dealing with various types and scales of seismic data. Here, we develop an adaptive parameter-free denoising method by combining general cross-validation (GCV) thresholding and pixel connectivity in synchrosqueezed (SS) domain. In this denoising framework, the synchrosqueezed continuous wavelet transform (SS-CWT) is first applied to obtain a high-resolution time–frequency representation. Then, the GCV approach, which allows for choosing the (nearly) optimal threshold without relying on any prior knowledge about the noise level, is employed to attenuate most of the low-energy noise. After that, the relatively isolated high-energy residual noise remaining in the SS-CWT spectrum is removed using pixel connectivity thresholding. Finally, the inverse SS-CWT is applied to the thresholded spectrum to obtain the denoised seismic record. As the thresholds for GCV and pixel connectivity are derived from the spectrum characteristics of the data being analyzed, the proposed denoising approach is highly adaptive and parameter-free. We demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of the proposed denoising framework using synthetic data and real seismic data from diverse monitoring scenarios, including land, ocean, and emerging distributed acoustic sensing (DAS). Abstract Magnetic skyrmions are potential candidates for high-density storage and logic devices because of their inherent topological stability and nanoscale size. Two-dimensional (2D) Janus transition metal chalcogenides (TMDs) are widely used to induce skyrmions due to the breaking of inversion symmetry. However, the experimental synthesis of Janus TMDs is rare, which indicates that the Janus configuration might not be the most stable MXY structure. Here, through machine-learning-assisted high-throughput first-principles calculations, we demonstrate that not all MXY compounds can be stabilized in Janus layered structure and a large proportion prefer to form other configurations with lower energy than the Janus configuration. Interestingly, these new configurations exhibit a strong Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI), which can generate and stabilize skyrmions even under a strong magnetic field. This work provides not only an efficient method for obtaining ferromagnetic materials with strong DMI but also a theoretical guidance for the synthesis of TMDs via experiments.

Abstract Silicon steel sheets (SSSs), serving as the principal constituent of the magnetic circuit in electric machines, necessitates precise modelling and accurate computation using magnetic circuit theory as a prerequisite for analysing the characteristics of electric machines. Nevertheless, the conventional magnetic circuit theory, limited to a single reluctance component, fails to address the phase relationship between magnetomotive force and magnetic flux, and inadequately represents the magnetic flux distribution observed under high‐frequency conditions. Consequently, the existing magnetic circuit model for SSSs remains imperfect in its current state. Fortuitously, the advent of magductance has effectively addressed these challenges. Building upon magductance, this study deduces the fundamental laws and theorem within the vector magnetic circuit theory. Subsequently, a distributed parameter vector magnetic circuit model for the SSSs is constructed, accompanied by the derivation of expressions pertaining to its reluctance and magductance. The authors propose the transfer function composed of reluctance and magductance parameters, successfully resolving the phase between the magnetic circuit vectors, the magnetic flux distribution, and the magnetic circuit loss under different frequencies for SSSs. Finally, experimental findings affirm the efficacy and validity of the distributed parameter vector magnetic circuit model for SSSs. The proposal of vector magnetic circuit theory opens a whole new door for the analysis, computation, and optimisation of electric machines.

Objective To assess contribution and seasonal variation in groundwater discharge (LGD) to lake water and nutrient budgets, Methods this study investigated Changhu Lake in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Field sampling was conducted during both the wet and dry seasons using multiple tracing techniques, including electrical conductivity (EC), stable isotope (2H and 18O), hydrochemical element (Ca2+ and Mg2+), and 222Rn isotope data. The 222Rn mass balance model was employed to quantify the LGD and associated nutrient fluxes in different seasons. Results Results show that LGD rates during the wet and dry seasons were 64.52 mm/d and 14.95 mm/d, respectively, with significant differences between these seasons. Furthermore, during the wet and dry seasons, groundwater carried TN inputs of approximately 25.68×106 g/d and 5.58×106 g/d, respectively. The TP inputs were approximately 8.14×106 g/d and 0.17×106 g/d in the wet and dry seasons, respectively. The differences in the LGD rates between the wet and dry seasons lead to differences in groundwater carrying TN and TP inputs, and inputs of TP during the wet season is also influenced by agricultural activities during that period. Sronger precipitation and evaporation during the wet season drive greater LGD intensity and their carrying TN and TP fluxes. Conclusion The research can provide scientific reference for water resource management and aquatic ecosystem preservation efforts in the Changhu area.

Extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) has recently gained increasing attention due to its significant role in cancer and other pathophysiologic states. The majority of circular DNAs detected by Circle-seq are small-size eccDNAs with enigmatic functions. One major technical hurdle is to synthesize eccDNA for functional identification. Here, we describe CAES (Circle-seq based Artificial EccDNA Synthesis), a promising and reliable method for artificial eccDNA synthesis. Eight eccDNAs carrying different microRNA genes (eccMIR) found in gastric cancer tissues, ranging from 329 bp to 2189 bp in size, were created utilizing the CAES method. Exonuclease V and single restriction-endonuclease digestion identified the circular structure of synthetic eccDNAs. The DNA circularization efficiency afforded by CAES ranged from 15.6% to 31.1%, which was negatively correlated with the eccDNA length. In addition, we demonstrated that CAES-synthesized eccMIRs can express both miRNA-3p and − 5p molecules efficiently independent of a canonical promoter in human cell lines. Further assays proved that these eccMIRs were functional as they were able to repress the luciferase gene containing a miRNA-target sequence in the 3′UTR as well as the endogenous mRNA targets. Finally, kinetics study revealed that eccDNA exhibited a decay rate similar to the standard plasmids and linear DNA in cultured cells. Together, this study offers a rapid and convenient method for Circle-seq users to synthesize artificial eccDNAs. It also demonstrates the promising potential of eccMIR as a bacterial DNA-free vector for safe and robust miRNA overexpression in both basic research and therapeutic applications.

Abstract Background The period of standardized training is a transitional stage when Generation Z newly graduated registered nurses (Gen Z NGRNs) change their role from student to nurse. Affected by the COVID-19, they lack clinical practice and practicum experience in emergency departments in their university studies. At the beginning of career, they are under great pressure. Resilience is one of the factors that reduce their stress level and increases endurance. It is of interest to understand how this representative group of nurses gained and played the experience of resilience early in their careers. Objective To explore Gen Z NGRNs’ experience and process of resilience, to provide a new perspective and theoretical basis for psychological rehabilitation or intervention of medical staff who experienced transition shock. Methods This study employed a qualitative design based on the phenomenological approach. 18 nurses from a third-level class-A hospital in Shanghai who participated in standardized training in emergency department were enrolled using purposive sampling. Data collection was through in-depth and semi-structured interviews and continued until reaching data saturation. Results The investigation uncovered three themes and ten subthemes. Pressure and challenge contained high workload and high risk coexist, death’s stress response, more emergencies and high professional requirements. Coping and adaptation contained team help, psychological restructuring, peer support, transformational leadership. Reflection and planning contained enhance learning, appreciate life. Conclusions Our study described the embodiment and coping experience of the physical and mental stress faced by Gen Z NGRNs during their standardized training in the emergency department. It is emphasized that nurse educators should pay attention to the character and actual needs of Gen Z NGRNs, explore and formulate strategies, so as to guide NGRNs to quickly adapt and grow in the new role. The ultimate goal is to increase nurse retention and improve the quality of nursing.

Disease-gene association, an important problem in the biomedical area, can be used to early intervene the treat of deadly diseases. Recently, models based on graph convolutional networks (GCNs) have outperformed previous linear models on predicting the new disease-gene associations, due to its strong capability to capture the relevance of disease and gene in the new semantic embedding space. However, a single embedding vector cannot informatively represent a disease or gene and cannot characterize the uncertainty of their features. We propose to learn a distribution for a disease or gene under the variational autoencoder framework, which enables disease-gene associations to be modeled by the Kullback-Leibler divergence. The experiment results show that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art models significantly in various metrics.

ObjectiveTo describe clinical characteristics of hospitalized children with acute asthma attacks complicated with mucus plugs and to investigate the factors associated with mucus plugs in asthma children.MethodsThis retrospective study analyzed hospitalized children and adolescents with acute asthma attacks from January 2016 to December 2021. The demographic information and characteristics were collected. Subjects were categorized into the mucus plug group and the control group based on the bronchoalveolar lavage results. The Logistic regression analyses were utilized to assess the relative factors associated with mucus plugs. All data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0.ResultsThis study included 242 individuals. Out of the 151 subjects who underwent bronchoscopy, 62.9% were classified in the mucus plug group and 37.1% in the control group. The subjects with dyspnea had a higher proportion in the mucus plug group (52.6% vs. 26.8%). The serum total IgE level of the mucus plug group was lower than the control group. The proportion of subjects who were diagnosed with asthma for the first time during hospitalization (87.4% vs. 76.8%) and combined with respiratory infection (91.6% vs. 82.1%) in the mucus plug group might be higher than that in the control group. More subjects in the mucus plug group were administered systemic glucocorticoid, magnesium sulfate, aminophylline, and mucolytic drugs after hospitalization. In multivariable analysis, diagnosed with asthma for the first time during hospitalization (OR = 4.404; 1.101–17.614), dyspnea (OR = 4.039; 1.306–12.496), and cesarean (OR = 0.274; 0.092–0.812) might be associated with mucus plug in children hospitalized for an acute asthma attack.SuggestsWhile our retrospective study suggests that some clinical features of children hospitalized with asthma who have mucus plugs differ from those without, further studies are required.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by synovial inflammation of joints in response to autoimmune disorders. Once triggered, many factors were involved in the development of RA, including both cellular factors like osteoclasts, synovial fibroblasts, T cells, B cells, and soluble factors like interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-17 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), etc. The complex interplay of those factors results in such pathological abnormality as synovial hyperplasia, bone injury and multi-joint inflammation. To treat this chronic life-affecting disease, the primary drugs used in easing the patient’s symptoms are disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). However, these traditional drugs could cause serious side effects, such as high blood pressure and stomach ulcers. Interestingly, recent discoveries on the pathogenesis of RA have led to various new kinds of drugs or therapeutic strategies. Therefore, we present a timely review of the latest development in this field, focusing on the cellular aspects of RA pathogenesis and new therapeutic methods in clinical application. Hopefully it can provide translational guide to the pre-clinical research and treatment for the autoimmune joint disease.

Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) implemented during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic have been proven effective. While reducing SARS-CoV-2 transmission, NPIs also reduced children's exposure to other pathogens, leading to a decline in the incidence of many viral and bacterial infections. The reduction in contact with viruses and bacteria could result in insufficient immune stimulation of pathogens in the population, leading to an increase in susceptible populations and a decline in herd immunity, which form the immunity debt during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Immunity debt can impact the pattern of seasonal pathogens, increase the incidence and severity of invasive infections, and potentially raise the risk of allergic diseases in children. Immunization, continuing to implement NPIs, pathogen monitoring, and health education are important measures to repay immunity debt. Besides, trained immunity, referring to the memory immunity produced by the innate immune system upon re-stimulation, can be employed as a non-specific measure to prevent the spread of pathogens. The protective effect of trained immunity can be used as a temporary preventive measure for emerging infectious diseases and create conditions for vaccine development.

A large-scale fine-grained Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy plate with high strength and ductility was successfully prepared by multi-pass friction stir processing (MFSP) technology in this work. The structure of grains and long period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase were characterized, and the mechanical properties uniformity was investigated. Moreover, a quantitative relationship between the microstructure and tensile yield strength was established. The results showed that the grains in the processed zone (PZ) and interfacial zone (IZ) were refined from 50 µm to 3 µm and 4 µm, respectively, and numerous original LPSO phases were broken. In IZ, some block-shaped 18R LPSO phases were transformed into needle-like 14H LPSO phases due to stacking faults and the short-range diffusion of solute atoms. The severe shear deformation in the form of kinetic energy caused profuse stacking fault to be generated and move rapidly, greatly increasing the transformation rate of LPSO phase. After MFSP, the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and elongation to failure of the large-scale plate were 367 MPa, 305 MPa and 18.0% respectively. Grain refinement and LPSO phase strengthening were the major strengthening mechanisms for the MFSP sample. In particularly, the strength of IZ was comparable to that of PZ because the strength contribution of the 14H LPSO phase offsets the lack of grain refinement strengthening in IZ. This result opposes the widely accepted notion that IZ is a weak region in MFSP-prepared large-scale fine-grained plate.

Abstract Anabasis aphylla (A. aphylla), a species of the Amaranthaceae family, is widely distributed in northwestern China and has high pharmacological value and ecological functions. However, the growth characteristics are poorly understood, impeding its industrial development for biopesticide development. Here, we explored the regenerative capacity of A. aphylla. To this end, different lengths of the secondary branches of perennial branches were mowed at the end of March before sprouting. The four treatments were no mowing (M0) and mowing 1/3, 2/3, and the entire length of the secondary branches of perennial branches (M1–M3, respectively). Next, to evaluate the compensatory growth after mowing, new assimilate branches’ related traits were recorded every 30 days, and the final biomass was recorded. The mowed plants showed a greater growth rate of assimilation branches than un-mowed plants. Additionally, with the increasing mowing degree, the growth rate and the final biomass of assimilation branches showed a decreasing trend, with the greatest growth rate and final biomass in response to M1. To evaluate the mechanism of the compensatory growth after mowing, a combination of dynamic (0, 1, 5, and 8 days after mowing) plant hormone-targeted metabolomics and transcriptomics was performed for the M0 and M1 treatment. Overall, 26 plant hormone metabolites were detected, 6 of which significantly increased after mowing compared with control: Indole-3-acetyl-L-valine methyl ester, Indole-3-carboxylic acid, Indole-3-carboxaldehyde, Gibberellin A24, Gibberellin A4, and cis (+)-12-oxo-phytodienoic acid. Additionally, 2,402 differentially expressed genes were detected between the mowed plants and controls. By combining clustering analysis based on expression trends after mowing and gene ontology analysis of each cluster, 18 genes related to auxin metabolism were identified, 6 of which were significantly related to auxin synthesis. Our findings suggest that appropriate mowing can promote A. aphylla growth, regulated by the auxin metabolic pathway, and lays the foundation for the development of the industrial value of A. aphylla.

Abstract Background Asthma is one of the most common chronic airway diseases in children. Preventing asthma exacerbation is one of the objectives of all asthma action plans. In patients with poor perception, it is difficult to identify acute asthma exacerbations by clinical asthma score, asthma control test or asthma control questionnaire. The aim of this study is to analyze whether children with asthma have changes in peak expiratory flow(PEF)before an acute asthma exacerbation and to evaluate the relationship between PEF and asthma exacerbation. Methods Basic information (including sex, age, atopy, etc.) and clinical information of asthmatic children who registered in the Electronic China Children’s Asthma Action Plan (e-CCAAP) from 1 September 2017 to 31 August 2021 were collected. Subjects with 14 consecutive days of PEF measurements were eligible. Subjects in this study were divided into an exacerbation group and a control group. We analyzed the relationship between changes in PEF% pred and the presence of asthma symptoms. Result A total of 194 children with asthma who met the inclusion criteria were included, including 144 males (74.2%) and 50 females (25.8%), with a male-to-female ratio of 2.88:1. The mean age of the subjects was 9.51 ± 2.5 years. There were no significant differences in sex, age, allergy history or baseline PEF between the two groups. In children with and without a history of allergy, there was no significant difference between the variation in PEF at 14 days. Patients who only had a reduced in PEF but no symptoms of asthma exacerbation had the greatest reduction in PEF compared to the other groups. Abstract Cancer immunotherapy and vaccine development have significantly improved the fight against cancers. Despite these advancements, challenges remain, particularly in the clinical delivery of immunomodulatory compounds. The tumor microenvironment (TME), comprising macrophages, fibroblasts, and immune cells, plays a crucial role in immune response modulation. Nanoparticles, engineered to reshape the TME, have shown promising results in enhancing immunotherapy by facilitating targeted delivery and immune modulation. These nanoparticles can suppress fibroblast activation, promote M1 macrophage polarization, aid dendritic cell maturation, and encourage T cell infiltration. Biomimetic nanoparticles further enhance immunotherapy by increasing the internalization of immunomodulatory agents in immune cells such as dendritic cells. Moreover, exosomes, whether naturally secreted by cells in the body or bioengineered, have been explored to regulate the TME and immune-related cells to affect cancer immunotherapy. Stimuli-responsive nanocarriers, activated by pH, redox, and light conditions, exhibit the potential to accelerate immunotherapy. The co-application of nanoparticles with immune checkpoint inhibitors is an emerging strategy to boost anti-tumor immunity. With their ability to induce long-term immunity, nanoarchitectures are promising structures in vaccine development. This review underscores the critical role of nanoparticles in overcoming current challenges and driving the advancement of cancer immunotherapy and TME modification.

Abstract Extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) refers to a distinct class of circular DNA molecules that exist independently from linear chromosomal DNA. Extensive evidence has firmly established the significant involvement of eccDNA in cancer initiation, progression, and evolutionary processes. However, the relationship between eccDNA and brain aging remains elusive. Here, we employed extrachromosomal circular DNA sequencing (Circle-seq) to generate a comprehensive dataset of eccDNA from six brain structures of both young and naturally-aged mice, including the olfactory bulb, medial prefrontal cortex, nucleus accumbens, caudate putamen, hippocampus, and cerebellum. Furthermore, through database annotation, we characterized the properties of mouse brain eccDNA, thereby gaining insights into the potential functions of eccDNA in the mouse brain. In conclusion, our study addresses a previously unexplored area by providing a comprehensive molecular characterization of eccDNA in brain tissues. The data presented in the study can be used as a fundamental resource to associate the molecular phenotypes of eccDNA with brain aging and gain deep insights into the biological role of eccDNA in mammalian brain aging.

Abstract Sustainable agriculture relies on implementing effective, eco-friendly crop protection strategies. However, the adoption of these green tactics by growers is limited by their high costs resulting from the insufficient integration of various components of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). In response, we propose a framework within IPM termed Multi-Dimensional Management of Multiple Pests (3MP). Within this framework, a spatial dimension considers the interactive effects of soil-crop-pest-natural enemy networks on pest prevalence, while a time dimension addresses pest interactions over the crop season. The 3MP framework aims to bolster the adoption of green IPM tactics, thereby extending environmental benefits beyond crop protection.

Abstract Background We investigated the value of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in diagnosing infectious diseases in patients receiving allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Methods Fifty-four patients who had fever following allo-HSCT from October 2019 to February 2022 were enrolled. Conventional microbiological tests (CMTs) and mNGS, along with imaging and clinical manifestations, were used to diagnose infection following allo-HSCT. The clinical diagnostic value of mNGS was evaluated. Results A total of 61 mNGS tests were performed, resulting in the diagnosis of 46 cases of infectious diseases. Among these cases, there were 22 cases of viral infection, 13 cases of fungal infection, and 11 cases of bacterial infection. Moreover, 27 cases (58.7%) were classified as bloodstream infections, 15 (32.6%) as respiratory infections, 2 (4.3%) as digestive system infections, and 2 (4.3%) as central nervous system infections. Additionally, there were 8 cases with non-infectious diseases (8/54, 14.81%), including 2 cases of interstitial pneumonia, 2 cases of bronchiolitis obliterans, 2 cases of engraftment syndrome, and 2 cases of acute graft-versus-host disease. Following the coronavirus disease-2019 outbreak caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), there is an ongoing need to seek drugs that target COVID-19. First off, novel drugs have a long development cycle, high investment cost, and are high risk. Second, novel drugs must be evaluated for activity, efficacy, safety, and metabolic performance, contributing to the development cycle, investment cost, and risk. We searched the Cochrane COVID-19 Study Register (including PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, ClinicalTrials.gov, WHO ICTRP, and medRxiv), Web of Science (Science Citation Index, Emerging Citation Index), and WHO COVID-19 Coronaviral Disease Global Literature to identify completed and ongoing studies as of February 20, 2024. We evaluated the pharmacological effects, in vivo and in vitro data of the 16 candidates in the paper. The difficulty of studying these candidates in clinical trials involving COVID-19 patients, dosage of repurposed drugs, etc. is discussed in detail. Ultimately, Metformin is more suitable for prophylactic administration or mildly ill patients; the combination of Oseltamivir, Tamoxifen, and Dexamethasone is suitable for moderately and severely ill patients; and more clinical trials are needed for Azvudine, Ribavirin, Colchicine, and Cepharanthine to demonstrate efficacy.

Summary: Sunitinib, a primary treatment for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), frequently encounters the challenge of resistance development. Metabolic reprogramming, a characteristic change in ccRCC, is likely linked to this resistance. Our research revealed a notable decrease in the expression of the key metabolic gene ABAT in ccRCC, which contributed to diminished sensitivity to sunitinib. Downregulation of ABAT led to an increase in the intracellular level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), triggering abnormal activation of the G-protein-coupled receptor GABA-B. This activation resulted in increased transactivation of the tyrosine kinase receptors SYK and LYN, thereby reducing the antitumor and antiangiogenic properties of sunitinib. However, the application of SYK and LYN inhibitors successfully inhibited this effect. The transactivation of SYK and LYN caused resistance to the antiangiogenic effects of sunitinib through the upregulation of PGF protein levels. Furthermore, the combined application of an LYN inhibitor with sunitinib has been shown to enhance therapeutic efficacy.

Objective: The previous coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) epidemic inflicted significant psychological trauma on emergency and critical care nurses due to various factors, potentially leading to job burnout. Despite the rise of positive psychology, little is known about the post-traumatic growth experience of these nurses after the pandemic. The aim of this study was to assess the experience of post-traumatic growth among emergency and critical care nurses, in order to provide managerial insights for developing effective strategies and facilitating the transformation of nurses' negative emotions into positive ones. Design: A qualitative review. Data sources: PubMed, EBSCO, Medline, Elsvier, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science, Embase, and Ovid and Chinese databases include the following: Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database (CECDB), VIP Database and China Biomedical Database (CBM). Review methods: All articles about emergency and critical care nurses’ post-traumatic growth after the COVID-19 pandemic were included after searching and screening 13 databases. The meta-synthesis method was used to integrate and evaluate the included literature in qualitative research. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) was used as a basis for reporting the review. The literature was selected and evaluated by two researchers, and then meta-integration was used for analysis. Results: From a total of 11 articles, 90 main results were presented, eight new categories were integrated, and three themes were formed: stress period, adjustment period and growth period. These three themes include eight sub-themes: negative emotion, psychological gap, self adjusting, social support, improvement of personal ability, increased sense of professional belonging, spiritual awakening and extended thinking, look ahead. Conclusion: Post-traumatic growth in emergency and critical care nurses is dynamic. Managers should monitor the psychological changes experienced by emergency and critical care nurses following traumatic events, offering targeted support at different stages, providing enhanced professional development opportunities, refining management strategies, guiding nurses in self-adjustment and active coping with trauma, and promoting their physical and mental well-being to ensure a positive mindset for effectively addressing future public health crises.

Abstract On 15 January 2022, the largest eruption of the Hunga‐Tonga volcano in recorded history produced a plume registered by multi‐parametric instruments around the world. However, the far‐field hydrogeological responses to Lamb waves from this eruption remain underexplored. We studied the responses of groundwater to the volcanic eruption in the far‐field over 8,700 km, including 274 wells. Results show that the Lamb waves with a speed of 316 m/s affects the groundwater system, leading to similar fluctuations in well water level (WL) and opposite phase fluctuation in borehole strain. Different wells exhibit diverse responses in WL amplitudes, possibly for heterogeneities in local aquifer systems. Gain values of 5 wells that simultaneously measure atmospheric pressure, borehole air pressure, borehole strain and WL are consistent with results obtained through cross‐power spectrum estimation. This work demonstrates a novel response in far‐field groundwater systems induced by Lamb waves and expects application for aquifer parameter estimation.

Abstract Background Mother-infant separation, which is occurring with an increasing incidence, is a barrier to direct breastfeeding. Owing to the importance of breast milk to hospitalized infants, mothers are actively encouraged to express milk during their infants’ neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stay. However, mothers are often faced with a number of challenges in this process. There is a need to understand such mothers’ real-life experiences of breast milk expression to develop supportive strategies to reduce the burden on mothers and increase breastfeeding rates. Methods A comprehensive search of 12 databases was conducted for relevant studies published from database construction to December 2022. All qualitative and mixed-method studies published in English and Chinese that reported on mothers’ experiences of human milk expression during separation from their hospitalized infants were included. Two reviewers independently conducted screening, data extraction, and quality appraisal, with disagreements resolved by a third reviewer. The process of searching followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) recommendations. The JBI Qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument was used to assess study quality and the credibility of study findings. Meta-aggregation was performed to integrate the results. Results This systematic review aggregated mothers’ experiences of milk expression during separation from their hospitalized infants. Database search yielded 600 records, of which 19 full-text documents were screened. Finally, 13 studies of good quality were included with data from 332 mothers across seven countries. A total of 61 primary findings with illustrations were extracted from the 13 eligible studies, the findings were generalized into 16 categories, and further were concluded as four synthesized findings: purpose and motivation, physical and emotional experiences, barrier factors, and coping styles. Conclusion Mothers were driven by extrinsic motivation in their decision to express breast milk. They experienced physical exhaustion and many negative emotional feelings while expressing. This process was affected by numerous barriers. Social support was essential to the initiation and maintenance of milk expression. Medical staff and families should pay more attention to the mental health of mothers with infants in the NICU. Future research should incorporate strategies to cope with emotional responses and offer practical strategies for managing milk expression. Evacuation lighting is a crucial component of cinema safety, significantly impacting operational safety and evacuation efficiency. It plays a key role in enhancing evacuation measures and ensuring the safety of cinema patrons. An experiment utilizing virtual reality technology was conducted at Beijing Forestry University with 62 subjects randomly assigned to either a control group or an experimental group. The experimental group was guided by a green flashing light as an evacuation indicator, while the control group relied on static lighting. Although some subjects overlooked the green flashing light, its presence still reduced the number of subjects choosing misleading exits. The flashing light notably improved pathfinding efficiency and evacuation performance, with the experimental group achieving an average evacuation time approximately 30% shorter than the control group. Additionally, subjects rated the sensory, cognitive, and functional aspects of the flashing light lighting from moderate to high. The findings indicate that dynamic and flashing evacuation lighting can effectively enhance fire escape efficiency in cinemas. The design of such systems should consider individual psychological responses and actual behavior patterns to optimize emergency evacuation instructions.

This paper introduces a new motor design for traction applications that achieves high power density and meets the power density target of 50kW/L target set by the US Department of Energy. The proposed motor has a doubly salient structure with concentrated toroidal 3-phase windings and permanent magnets (PMs) in the stator and a reluctance rotor, improves torque capability and operating speed compared to traditional designs. A design optimization process was conducted to balance efficiency, power density, and power factor. An equivalent circuit in the DQ reference frame is introduced to enable vector control for the proposed special double salient machine. The resulting design was validated through the creation of an open frame lab prototype (OFLP) and an experimental dyno test bench was developed. The prototype was tested through open circuit tests, static torque tests, and unity power factor tests. This paper also discusses the use of synchronous reference frame theory and per-phase diagrams to calculate electric machine parameters. In addition to experimentation, 3D and 2D electromagnetic FEA simulations have been performed for unity power factor operation as a generator to numerically separate the power loss components.

Abstract Background Ultrasound (US) has been widely used in screening and differential diagnosis of gallbladder wall thickening (GWT). However, the sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing wall-thickening type gallbladder cancer are limited, leading to delayed treatment or overtreatment. We aim to explore the value of high frame rate contrast enhanced ultrasound (H-CEUS) in distinguishing wall-thickening type gallbladder cancer (malignant) from GWT mimicking malignancy (benign). Methods This retrospective study enrolled consecutive patients with non-acute GWT who underwent US and H-CEUS examination before cholecystectomy. Clinical information, US image and H-CEUS image characteristics between malignant and benign GWT were compared. The independent risk factors for malignant GWT on H-CEUS images were selected by multivariate logistic regression analysis. The diagnostic performance of H-CEUS in determining malignant GWT was compared with that of the gallbladder reporting and data system (GB-RADS) score. To address this, single-cell RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and bulk RNA-seq data combined with in vitro studies were conducted to examine the role of MYO5A (Myosin VA) in HNSC. Abstract Background Aphids often harbor bacterial symbionts that confer resistance to biotic and abiotic stress. Previous studies have primarily examined the direct effects of symbiont infection on parasitoid success but less on aphid population dynamics under indirect parasitic situations, for example when exposed to parasitoid wasp odor. Deciphering this type of indirect effect is essential for understanding dynamics of insect ecosystems and communities and to improve IPM success. Methods We generated Sitobion avenae aphid clonal lines that are genetically identical but differ in Regiella insecticola infection. Then, the indirect odor effect of female parasitoid wasp Aphidius gifuensis (Ashmaed), one of its major natural enemies in the fields, was examined on the aphid lines fitness using different parasitoid densities. With these lines we also tested the direct effect of symbiont presence on aphid resistance against different parasitoid densities. Results Our study found fitness costs for the aphid line hosting Regiella, mainly via an increase in the development time and a reduction in population increase rate. Some of these fitness traits were influenced by the indirect exposure to parasitoid wasp odor with a density effect. Presence of the symbiont also reduced A. gifuensis parasitic success, increased the wasp development time and decreased its emergence weight with low effect of the parasitoid density used for parasitism. Conclusions These results showed that aphid population dynamic was mainly affected by the symbiont presence, but not by parasitoid odor. Symbiont presence also protected aphid from parasitism and affected parasitoid offspring weight and hence their future individual fertility and fitness.

Objective To qualitatively explore the factors that enhance resilience among emergency nurses (ENs).Design This study is an exploratory qualitative investigation. Semistructured in-depth interviews were used for data collection, while qualitative content analysis was applied for data analysis.Setting A grade A tertiary hospital in Shanghai, China.Participants The study subjects comprised 17 ENs, who were selected using a purposive sampling method.Results Three main themes and the nine subthemes emerged from the study, that is, individual resources, including competency, personality traits and occupational benefits; family resources, including close parent–child attachment and supportive family dynamics; social resources, including peer support, organisational support, resilient leadership and popular support.Conclusion This qualitative study explored the factors promoting resilience among ENs and provided a reference for managers to formulate future management strategies. From the perspective of positive psychology, nurses should receive comprehensive support, focusing on improving their professional accomplishment and role ability while prioritising the development of resilient leadership. These efforts are expected to drive progress and growth across the emergency care team.

Lignin is one of the main components of cell walls and is essential for resistance to insect pests in plants. Cotton plants are damaged by aphid (Aphis gossypii) worldwide but resistant breeding is undeveloped due to scarce knowledge on resistance genes and the mechanism. This study reported a lignin biosynthesis-related gene identified in the F2 population derived from the cross between cotton cultivars Xinluzao 61 (resistant to aphid) and Xinluzao 50 (susceptible to aphid). A quantitative trait locus was mapped on chromosome D04 with a logarithm of odds (LOD) score of 5.99 and phenotypic effect of 27%. RNA-seq analysis of candidate intervals showed that the expression level of GH_D04G1418 was higher in the resistant cultivar than in the susceptible cultivar. This locus is close to AtLAC4 in the phylogenetic tree and contains a conserved laccase domain. Hence, it was designated GhLAC4-3. Silencing of GhLAC4-3 in Xinluzao 61 via virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) resulted in decreased lignin content and increased susceptibility to aphids. These results suggest that GhLAC4-3 might enhance aphid resistance by regulating lignin biosynthesis in cotton.

Purposes In communication systems, filters play an important role in filtering out-of-band signals. For the traditional parallel coupled line filter and clip line filter, the size is large and the parasitic pass band problems exist. Methods A small Ka band pass filter is designed by using radial stub. In this paper, the radial is analyzed, calculated, and simulated. Then, the filter is modeled and simulated with HFSS. According to the simulation results, the initial model is optimized and improved by adjusting the radius and angle of the radial stub. Finally, the filter is processed by using RO5880 substrates. Findings The actual test results show that the center frequency of the filter is about 36.9 GHz and the bandwidth is about 4.57 GHz, which reashes the parameter requirements. Conclusions Compared with parallel coupled line filters, this design occupies less volume in the same frequency band, and has better suppression effect on out-of-band signals in the low frequency band.

Abstract Re-ranking is to refine the candidate ranking list of recommended items, such that the re-ranked list attracts users to purchase or click more items than the candidate one without re-ranking. Items in the candidate list are often ranked by their relevance to users’ interests. It is thus important to exploit the mutual influence between items in the re-ranking process. Existing re-ranking models focus on only the pairwise influence between two items, and have limited capability to exploit the local mutual influence in a group of items. Users often show successive interests on a group of relevant items, e.g., mobile phone, phone covers, wireless headset, namely scene. We propose a novel re-ranking model that jointly exploits the local mutual influence in scenes and the global mutual influence between different scenes. Scene representations are learned by GNN and multi-head attention, where GNN aims to learn local mutual influence while multi-head attention is to learn global mutual influence. To study the interaction between users and scenes, matrix factorization on users is utilized to obtain the user preference, which can be further applied to scenes to compute the scene scores. The final re-ranking list is generated by sorting the predicted scores of all scenes. To further mine user history information and item related user information, we also develop the extension pretraining module which relies on mask mechanism to support users and items high-quality embedding generation. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation on several real-world datasets. The experimental results demonstrate that our model substantially outperforms existing approaches.

Abstract Background Since March 2022, Shanghai, China, has experienced a severe wave of SARS-CoV-2 transmission caused by the Omicron variant strain. The pandemic has severely constrained the local healthcare system. After treating critically ill COVID-19 patients, emergency nurses may experience some positive changes due to new insights or gains in their work, even if they have had traumatic experiences. This study aimed to explore the promoting factors of emergency nurses’ post-traumatic growth during the COVID-19 pandemic in Shanghai. We hoped to provide a new perspective and theoretical basis for intervening in and promoting the psychological rehabilitation of medical staff after traumatic circumstances. Methods This study employed a qualitative design based on the phenomenological approach. 18 participants from the emergency department of a third-level class-A hospital in Shanghai who participated in treating COVID-19 patients were enrolled using purposive sampling. Data collection was through in-depth and semi-structured interviews and continued until reaching data saturation. The seven-step Colaizzi process was used for data analysis. Results The investigation uncovered two themes and six subthemes. Internal factors contained self-affirmation, deliberate rumination, and cognitive restructuring, which constituted attitudes and behaviours that participants could subjectively determine. External factors included social support, transformational leadership, and role modelling, which constituted factors influenced by others or the environment. Conclusions The promoting factors of PTG of emergency nurses originated from different sources such as individuals, organizations, and society. In addition to good psychological adjustment of the individual, society, hospitals, and nursing managers should focus on establishing supportive PTG strategies. The ultimate purpose is to improve the retention rate and career growth of nurses.

High-entropy alloys (HEA) as a kind of new binder for cemented carbide have garnered significant attention. In this work, WC/(17~25 wt.%)Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 cemented carbides were prepared by hot pressing sintering (HPS), and the reactions between WC powder and Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 powder during hot pressing sintering were elucidated. It found that different from traditional Co binder, the Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 binder effectively inhibited WC grain growth. During HPS, the decomposed W and C atoms from WC diffused into the Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 binder, reacted with the elements in the binder, and then formed the M(Co, Fe, Ni)3W3C phase. The back-diffusion of W and C atoms to WC grains was restricted by the Al0.5CoCrFeNiTi0.5 alloy and inhibited them from re-precipitating onto the large undissolved WC grains. As a result, the average size of WC grains in the cemented carbides was less than 200 nm. This work bright new insight into the grain refinement mechanisms of WC cemented carbide with HEA binder and provide a guidance for designing performance-stable WC/HEA cemented carbide and promoting their application.

Background: Physical exercise has been shown to be beneficial for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), although the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Methods: Six-month-old Amyloid precursor protein/Presenilin 1 (APP/PS1) transgenic (Tg) mice and wild-type (Wt) mice were randomly assigned to either a sedentary group (Tg-Sed, Wt-Sed) or an exercise group (Tg-Ex, Wt-Ex) undertaking a 12-week, moderate-intensity treadmill running program. Consequently, all mice were tested for memory function and amyloid β (Aβ) levels and phosphorylation of tau and protein kinase B (Akt)/glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK3) were examined in tissues of both the cortex and hippocampus. Results: Tg-Sed mice had severely impaired memory, higher levels of Aβ, and increased phosphorylation of tau, GSK3α tyrosine279, and GSK3β tyrosine216, but less phosphorylation of GSK3α serine21, GSK3β serine9, and Akt serine473 in both tissues than Wt-Sed mice in respective tissues. Tg-Ex mice showed significant improvement in memory function along with lower levels of Aβ and less phosphorylation of tau (both tissues), GSK3α tyrosine279 (both tissues), and GSK3β tyrosine216 (hippocampus only), but increased phosphorylation of GSK3α serine21 (both tissues), GSK3β serine9 (hippocampus only), and Akt serine473 (both tissues) compared with Tg-Sed mice in respective tissues. Conclusions: Moderate-intensity aerobic exercise is highly effective in improving memory function in 9-month-old APP/PS1 mice, most likely through differential modulation of GSK3α/β phosphorylation in the cortex and hippocampus.

Drosophila suzukii and Tuta absoluta are successful biological invaders of agroecosystems. Their integrated pest management (IPM) programs involve the release and/or conservation of natural enemies. Among these, Ganaspis kimorum is a major Asian parasitoid of D. suzukii and has been introduced as a classical biological control agent of this pest in Europe and North America, while Necremnus tutae is a key fortuitous parasitoid of T. absoluta in the Mediterranean region. Bioinsecticides represent key alternatives to chemicals for controlling both pests. This study investigated the potential compatibility of both parasitoids with Beauveria bassiana, Bacillus thuringiensis, garlic essential oil (EO), and spinosad, in comparison to two synthetic insecticides, cyantraniliprole and chlorantraniliprole. The results showed that combining each of the tested insecticides with G. kimorum slightly increased pest mortality compared to the insecticide alone. Necremnus tutae had a significant additive effect on host mortality when combined with insecticides. Beauveria bassiana and B. thuringiensis were most compatible with both parasitoid species. Both garlic EO and chlorantraniliprole impaired the survival of immature N. tutae and showed sublethal toxicity on the reproductive and non-reproductive behaviors of N. tutae. Spinosad exhibited high acute toxicity on both juvenile and adult parasitoids of both species. Overall, these findings provide useful insights into insecticide selectivity toward two key parasitoids and offer new knowledge on the potential of combining natural enemies and bioinsecticides for optimized IPM.

Scientifically evaluating China’s black soil protection policy and exploring its evolution characteristics are crucial for promoting high-quality and efficient black soil protection projects worldwide. Utilizing the Policy Modeling Consistency (PMC) index model, the effectiveness of China’s black soil protection policy system is assessed. Building upon this evaluation, the research delves into the evolution process of the black soil protection policy system, examining its dynamic characteristics across different government levels. Through the application of text mining technology and visual analysis techniques, the study explores four dimensions: keyword co-occurrence, vertical synergy calculation, policy theme identification, and policy tool analysis. The results show the following: (1) The PMC index showed a phased growth trend, and various indicators gradually improved and tended to be stable. (2) Government policies at the same level exhibit progressive evolution patterns in terms of policy keywords and themes. (3) Across different levels of government, there are hierarchical lag evolution rules observed in policy keywords and provincial policy tools. Additionally, policy keywords display vertical synergy evolution patterns. In conclusion, future black soil conservation policies need to reduce hierarchical delays, enhance the coverage and comprehensiveness of policy content, and establish a sound policy feedback mechanism. The conclusions of the study are significant for improving management approaches throughout the black soil zones of the world.

Abstract Background Macrophage-like transformation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) is a risk factor of atherosclerosis (AS) progression. Transcription factor homeobox A1 (HOXA1) plays functional roles in differentiation and development. This study aims to explore the role of HOXA1 in VSMC transformation, thereby providing evidence for the potential mechanism of AS pathogenesis. Methods High fat diet (HFD)-fed apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE−/−) mice were applied as an in vivo model to imitate AS, while 1-palmitoyl-2-(5-oxovaleroyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POV-PC)-treated VSMCs were applied as an in vitro model. Recombinant adeno-associated-virus-1 (AAV-1) vectors that express short-hairpin RNAs targeting HOXA1, herein referred as AAV1-shHOXA1, were generated for the loss-of-function experiments throughout the study. Results In the aortic root of AS mice, lipid deposition was severer and HOXA1 expression was higher than the wide-type mice fed with normal diet or HFD. Silencing of HOXA1 inhibited the AS-induced weight gain, inflammatory response, serum and liver lipid metabolism disorder and atherosclerotic plaque formation. Besides, lesions from AS mice with HOXA1 knockdown showed less trans-differentiation of VSMCs to macrophage-like cells, along with a suppression of krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) and nuclear factor (NF)-κB RelA (p65) expression. In vitro experiments consistently confirmed that HOXA1 knockdown suppressed lipid accumulation, VSMC-to-macrophage phenotypic switch and inflammation in POV-PC-treated VSMCs. Mechanism investigations further illustrated that HOXA1 transcriptionally activated RelA and KLF4 to participate in the pathological manifestations of VSMCs. Conclusions HOXA1 participates in AS progression by regulating VSMCs plasticity via regulation of NF-κB p65 and KLF4. HOXA1 has the potential to be a biomarker or therapeutic target for AS.

As an advanced surface-strengthening technology, laser shock peening (LSP) is suitable for strengthening high-energy beam additive manufacturing components by improving the uneven temperature distribution and mechanical anisotropy problems. The present study investigated the influence of multiple LSP impacts on the microstructure evolution and wear performance of wire-based laser directed energy deposition (LDED) 17-4 PH stainless steel. Results showed that with the increase of LSP impacts, the average grain size of the wire-based LDED layer decreases and the dislocation density increases. Meanwhile, the residual stress was completely converted from tensile state to compressive state, and reaches the maximum value of 424 ± 15 MPa. In addition, the significant improvement of microhardness and wear resistance after 3 LSP impacts is attributed to the combined effects of grain refinement and dislocation strengthening.

Abstract Accurately predicting the capacity of lithium battery is conducive to improving its safety. Affected by complex internal electrochemical reaction and external use conditions, the prediction accuracy is difficult to guarantee; at the same time, the existing prediction methods are unexplainable, resulting in the inability to trace the prediction process. Therefore, a capacity prediction model based on belief rule base with interpretability and interval optimization strategy is proposed in this paper. First, the reasoning process is designed according to interpretability modeling criteria. Second, to achieve a balance of accuracy and interpretability, based on the whale optimization algorithm, a model parameter optimization method using interval optimization strategy is proposed. Finally, through a case study, the model's effectiveness is verified. Comparison with other models shows that the proposed model has certain advantages in accuracy and interpretability.

Background: Influenced by socio-cultural and world events, Chinese society has significant intergenerational differences. With rapid economic and cultural development, the unique characteristics of Generation Z nursing students in China may influence the clinical education environment. However, the research on Generation Z in China is still in its infancy. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the experiences and perceptions of Generation Z nursing students during their practicum in an intensive care unit (ICU) in the context of China's unique cultural and historical background. Methods: A phenomenological approach was used in this qualitative study. Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with fifteen Generation Z nursing students doing practicum in the ICU in a third-level hospital in Shanghai, China. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step method. Result: Three themes emerged: intelligent medical services empowering critical care, perception of multiple challenges, and affirmation of the teaching work in the ICU. Conclusions and implications: The clinical instructors should use a combination of online and offline pedagogy, give positive guidance through role modeling, and develop the self-learning skills of Generation Z nursing students. This might help Generation Z nursing students relieve the stress of practicum in the ICU, more quickly adapt to the clinical environment, and enter nursing positions. The result of this research provided valuable information to help clinical practicum programs in China effectively educate Generation Z nursing students. Good education ensures that health care is safe and effective, making it easier for patients to get better.

Objectives This study aims to investigate the post-traumatic growth of emergency nurses (ENs) in Shanghai, China, in 2022 following the COVID-19 pandemic.Design A phenomenological qualitative research approach was employed, with 17 ENs being interviewed between July and August 2022. Data collection was conducted through semistructured, in-depth interviews, and data analysis was carried out using the Colaizzi’s seven-step analysis method.Setting A third-level hospital in Shanghai.Participants A total of 17 ENs were interviewed through face-to-face, semistructured, in-depth interviews.Results Three main themes and eight subthemes were extracted from the data: (a) stress, (b) restructuring and (c) growth.Conclusion Significant stress was imposed on ENs by the Shanghai COVID-19 pandemic, but cognitive restructuring was successfully undergone by them, leading to the experience of growth. It is recommended that post-traumatic growth levels be enhanced through professional psychological counselling and tailored support measures for different stages.

By devising a novel near-infrared (NIR) in-situ online monitoring system, this study proposed a new process control method for rice protein (RP) enzymatic hydrolysis in order to address the challenge of monitoring certain chemical indices in real-time. The endpoint of the enzymatic hydrolysis reaction and the flexible switching point of dual-enzyme hydrolysis were determined through real-time spectrum collection. Correction and prediction models were constructed to predict the angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity of RP hydrolysis as well as the endpoint and the dual-enzyme flexible switching point at different substrate concentrations in an attempt to establish the new control system. At the RP substrate concentrations of 35, 40, and 45 g/L, the R2 of predicted and measured ACE inhibitory activity values under hydrolysis with a single alcalase were 0.8852, 0.8360, and 0.8613, respectively. In addition, the ACE inhibitory activity of dual-enzyme hydrolysis showed a high growth trend before and after the flexible switching point, and the hydrolysis time was significantly shortened at the same endpoint threshold as that of single alcalase hydrolysis. The results indicated that this method is capable of accurately determining and regulating the endpoint and adaptable transition point of RP hydrolysis. Consequently, this approach holds promise for the regulation of food basic materials during large-scale processing operations.

Summary: Background: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in detecting colorectal neoplasia during colonoscopy holds the potential to enhance adenoma detection rates (ADRs) and reduce adenoma miss rates (AMRs). However, varied outcomes have been observed across studies. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the potential advantages and disadvantages of employing AI-aided systems during colonoscopy. Methods: Using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms and keywords, a comprehensive electronic literature search was performed of the Embase, Medline, and the Cochrane Library databases from the inception of each database until October 04, 2023, in order to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing AI-assisted with standard colonoscopy for detecting colorectal neoplasia. Primary outcomes included AMR, ADR, and adenomas detected per colonoscopy (APC). Secondary outcomes comprised the poly missed detection rate (PMR), poly detection rate (PDR), and poly detected per colonoscopy (PPC). We utilized random-effects meta-analyses with Hartung-Knapp adjustment to consolidate results. The prediction interval (PI) and I2 statistics were utilized to quantify between-study heterogeneity. Moreover, meta-regression and subgroup analyses were performed to investigate the potential sources of heterogeneity. This systematic review and meta-analysis is registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023428658). Findings: This study encompassed 33 trials involving 27,404 patients. Those undergoing AI-aided colonoscopy experienced a significant decrease in PMR (RR, 0.475; 95% CI, 0.294–0.768; I2 = 87.49%) and AMR (RR, 0.495; 95% CI, 0.390–0.627; I2 = 48.76%). Additionally, a significant increase in PDR (RR, 1.238; 95% CI, 1.158–1.323; I2 = 81.67%) and ADR (RR, 1.242; 95% CI, 1.159–1.332; I2 = 78.87%), along with a significant increase in the rates of PPC (IRR, 1.388; 95% CI, 1.270–1.517; I2 = 91.99%) and APC (IRR, 1.390; 95% CI, 1.277–1.513; I2 = 86.24%), was observed. This resulted in 0.271 more PPCs (95% CI, 0.144–0.259; I2 = 65.61%) and 0.202 more APCs (95% CI, 0.144–0.259; I2 = 68.15%). Interpretation: AI-aided colonoscopy significantly enhanced the detection of colorectal neoplasia detection, likely by reducing the miss rate. However, future studies should focus on evaluating the cost-effectiveness and long-term benefits of AI-aided colonoscopy in reducing cancer incidence. ABSTRACTWhether nutrient availability interacts with induced resistance to alter plant chemistry and, consequently, the preference and performance of herbivores on plants remains unclear. We hypothesized that changing fertilizer inputs modulates responses induced by exogenous application of the defensive phytohormone methyl jasmonate (MeJA) against Tuta absoluta, a devastating pest of tomatoes. We found that tomato plants grown at or 2-fold above optimal fertilizer rates had higher nutrient content and were more preferred by T. absoluta females for oviposition and were better hosts for their offspring. MeJA increased phenolic content and volatile emissions in plants, which correlated with lower T. absoluta oviposition preference and offspring performance. However, we found no significant interactions when fertilizer and MeJA were applied simultaneously, such that induced responses against T. absoluta in tomatoes were similar regardless of fertilizer rate. These results provide novel insights into the bottom-up effects of fertilization and induced resistance on plant-insect herbivore interactions.
