We report the first detection of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) on germanium, measured at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Ge-Mini detector of the COHERENT collaboration employs large-mass, low-noise, high-purity germanium spectrometers, enabling excellent energy resolution, and an analysis threshold of 1.5 keV electron-equivalent ionization energy. We observe a on-beam excess of 20.6$_{+7.1}^{-6.3}$ counts with a total exposure of 10.22 GWhkg and we reject the no-CEvNS hypothesis with 3.9 sigma significance. The result agrees with the predicted standard model of particle physics signal rate within 2 sigma., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

Background: The established GADGET detection system, designed for measuring weak, low-energy $\beta$-delayed proton decays, features a gaseous Proton Detector with MICROMEGAS readout for calorimetric particle detection, surrounded by a Segmented Germanium Array for high-resolution prompt $\gamma$-ray detection. Purpose: To upgrade GADGET's Proton Detector to operate as a compact Time Projection Chamber (TPC) for the detection, 3D imaging and identification of low-energy $\beta$-delayed single- and multi-particle emissions mainly of interest to astrophysical studies. Method: A new high granularity MM board with 1024 pads has been designed, fabricated, installed and tested. A high-density data acquisition system based on Generic Electronics for TPCs has been installed and optimized to record and process the gas avalanche signals collected on the readout pads. The TPC's performance has been tested using a $^{220}$Rn $\alpha$-particle source and cosmic-ray muons. In addition, decay events in the TPC have been simulated by adapting the ATTPCROOT data analysis framework. Further, a novel application of 2D convolutional neural networks for GADGET II event classification is introduced. Results: The GADGET II TPC is capable of detecting and identifying $\alpha$-particles, as well as measuring their track direction, range, and energy. It has also been demonstrated that the GADGET II TPC is capable of tracking cosmic-ray muons. In addition to being one of the first generation of micro pattern gaseous detectors to utilize a resistive anode applied to low-energy nuclear physics, the GADGET II TPC will also be the first TPC surrounded by a high-efficiency array of high-purity germanium $\gamma$-ray detectors. \textbf{Conclusions:} The TPC of GADGET II has been designed, fabricated, tested, and is ready for operation at the FRIB for radioactive beam-line experiments.

We consider the potential for a 10-kg undoped cryogenic CsI detector operating at the Spallation Neutron Source to measure coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering and its sensitivity to discover new physics beyond the standard model. Through a combination of increased event rate, lower threshold, and good timing resolution, such a detector would significantly improve on past measurements. We considered tests of several beyond-the-standard-model scenarios such as neutrino non-standard interactions and accelerator-produced dark matter. This detector's performance was also studied for relevant questions in nuclear physics and neutrino astronomy, namely the weak charge distribution of CsI nuclei and detection of neutrinos from a core-collapse supernova.

The $^{30}$P$(p,\gamma)^{31}$S reaction plays an important role in understanding nucleosynthesis of $A\geq 30$ nuclides in oxygen-neon novae. The Gaseous Detector with Germanium Tagging was used to measure $^{31}$Cl $\beta$-delayed proton decay through the key $J^{\pi}=3/2^{+}$, 260-keV resonance. The intensity $I^{260}_{\beta p} = 8.3^{+1.2}_{-0.9} \times 10^{-6}$ represents the weakest $\beta$-delayed, charged-particle emission ever measured below 400 keV, resulting in a proton branching ratio of $\Gamma_p / \Gamma = 2.5^{+0.4}_{-0.3} \times 10^{-4}$. By combining this measurement with shell-model calculations for $\Gamma_{\gamma}$ and past work on other resonances, the total $^{30}$P$(p,\gamma)^{31}$S rate has been determined with reduced uncertainty. The new rate has been used in hydrodynamic simulations to model the composition of nova ejecta, leading to a concrete prediction of $^{30}$Si/$^{28}$Si excesses in presolar nova grains and the calibration of nuclear thermometers., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, accepted to Physical Review Letters on April 4, 2022

Motivated primarily by the large uncertainties in the thermonuclear rate of the $^{30}$P$(p,\gamma)^{31}$S reaction that limit our understanding of classical novae, we carried out lifetime measurements of $^{31}$S excited states using the Doppler Shift Lifetimes (DSL) facility at the TRIUMF Isotope Separator and Accelerator (ISAC-II) facility. The $^{31}$S excited states were populated by the $^{3}$He$(^{32}$S$,\alpha)^{31}$S reaction. The deexcitation $\gamma$ rays were detected by a clover-type high-purity germanium detector in coincidence with the $\alpha$ particles detected by a silicon detector telescope. We have applied modern Markov chain Monte Carlo-based Bayesian methods to perform lineshape analyses of Doppler-shift attenuation method $\gamma$-ray data for the first time. We have determined the lifetimes of the two lowest-lying $^{31}$S excited states. First experimental upper limits on the lifetimes of four higher-lying states have been obtained. The experimental results were compared to shell-model calculations using five universal $sd$-shell Hamiltonians. Evidence for $\gamma$ rays originating from the astrophysically important $J^\pi=3/2^+$, 260-keV $^{30}$P$(p,\gamma)^{31}$S resonance has also been observed, although strong constraints on the lifetime will require better statistics.

The fragment separator FRS has been for the first time used to measure the (n,p) and (p,n)-type isobaric charge-exchange cross sections of stable 112,124Sn isotopes accelerated at 1A GeV with an uncertainty of 3% and to separate quasi-elastic and inelastic components in the missing-energy spectra of the ejectiles. The inelastic contribution can be associated to the excitation of isobar {\Delta}(1232) resonances and to the pion emission in s-wave, both in the target and projectile nuclei, while the quasi-elastic contribution is associated to the nuclear spin-isospin response of nucleon-hole excitations. The data lead to interesting results where we observe a clear quenching of the quasi-elastic component and their comparisons to theoretical calculations demonstrate that the baryonic resonances can be excited in the target and projectile nuclei. To go further in this investigation, we propose to study the excitation of baryonic resonances taking advantage of the combination of high-resolving power magnetic spectrometers with the WASA calorimeter. These new measurements will allow us to determine the momenta of the ejectiles and pions emitted in coincidence after the single isobaric charge-exchange collisions, providing us unique opportunities to study the evolution of the baryonic resonance dynamics with the neutron-proton asymmetry through the use of exotic radioactive ion beams., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2004.06404

The properties of nuclei with extreme neutron-to-proton ratios, far from those naturally occurring on Earth, are key to understand nuclear forces and how nucleons hold together to form nuclei. $^7$H, with six neutrons and a single proton, is the nuclear system with the most unbalanced neutron-to-proton ratio known so far. However, its sheer existence and properties are still a challenge for experimental efforts and theoretical models. Here we report experimental evidences on the formation of $^7$H as a resonance, detected with independent observables, and the first measurement of the structure of its ground state. The resonance is found at $\sim$0.7 MeV above the $^3$H+4n mass, with a narrow width of $\sim$0.2 MeV and a $1/2^+$ spin and parity. These data are consistent with a $^7$H as a $^3$H core surrounded by an extended four-neutron halo, with a unique four-neutron decay and a relatively long half-life thanks to neutron pairing; a prime example of new phenomena occurring in what would be the most pure-neutron nuclear matter we can access in the laboratory.

$\beta$-decay spectroscopy provides valuable information on exotic nuclei and a stringent test for nuclear theories beyond the stability line. To search for new $\beta$-delayed protons and $\gamma$ rays of $^{25}$Si to investigate the properties of $^{25}$Al excited states. $^{25}$Si $\beta$ decays were measured by using the Gaseous Detector with Germanium Tagging system at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. The protons and $\gamma$ rays emitted in the decay were detected simultaneously. A Monte Carlo method was used to model the Doppler broadening of $^{24}$Mg $\gamma$-ray lines caused by nuclear recoil from proton emission. Shell-model calculations using two newly developed universal \textit{sd}-shell Hamiltonians, USDC and USDI, were performed. The most precise $^{25}$Si half-life to date has been determined. A new proton branch at 724(4)~keV and new proton-$\gamma$-ray coincidences have been identified. Three $^{24}$Mg $\gamma$-ray lines and eight $^{25}$Al $\gamma$-ray lines are observed for the first time in $^{25}$Si decay. The first measurement of the $^{25}$Si $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$ ray intensities through the $^{25}$Al unbound states is reported. All the bound states of $^{25}$Al are observed to be populated in the $\beta$ decay of $^{25}$Si. Several inconsistencies between the previous measurements have been resolved, and new information on the $^{25}$Al level scheme is provided. An enhanced decay scheme has been constructed and compared to the mirror decay of $^{25}$Na and the shell-model calculations. The measured excitation energies, $\gamma$-ray and proton branchings, log~$ft$ values, and Gamow-Teller transition strengths for the states of $^{25}$Al populated in the $\beta$ decay of $^{25}$Si are in good agreement with the shell-model calculations, offering gratifyingly consistent insights into the fine nuclear structure of $^{25}$Al.

Single neutron- and proton-removal cross sections have been systematically measured for 72 medium-mass neutron-rich nuclei around Z=50 and energies around 900A MeV using the FRagment Separator (FRS) at GSI. Neutron-removal cross sections are described by considering the knock-out process together with initial- and final-state interactions. Proton-removal cross sections are, however, significantly smaller than predicted by the same calculations. The observed difference can be explained as due to the knockout of short-correlated protons in neutron-proton dominating pairs.

Isobaric charge-exchange reactions induced by beams of 112Sn have been investigated at the GSI facilities using the fragment separator FRS. The high-resolving power of this spectrometer makes it possible to obtain the isobaric charge-exchange cross sections with an accuracy of 3% and to separate quasi-elastic and inelastic contributions in the missing-energy spectra, in which the inelastic component is associated to the in-medium excitation of baryonic resonances such as the $\Delta$ resonance. Isobaric quintets provide the best test of the isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME) and can uniquely identify higher order corrections suggestive of isospin symmetry breaking effects in the nuclear Hamiltonian. The Generalized IMME (GIMME) is a novel microscopic interaction theory that predicts an extension to the quadratic form of the IMME. Only the $A=20, 32$ $T=2$ quintets have the exotic $T_z = -2$ member ground state mass determined to high-precision by Penning trap mass spectrometry. In this work, we establish $A=36$ as the third high-precision $T=2$ isobaric quintet with the $T_z = -2$ member ground state mass measured by Penning trap mass spectrometry and provide the first test of the predictive power of the GIMME. A radioactive beam of neutron-deficient $^{36}$Ca was produced by projectile fragmentation at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. The beam was thermalized and the mass of $^{36}$Ca$^+$ and $^{36}$Ca$^{2+}$ measured by the Time of Flight - Ion Cyclotron Resonance method in the LEBIT 9.4 T Penning trap. We measure the mass excess of $^{36}$Ca to be ME$ = -6483.6(56)$ keV, an improvement in precision by a factor of 6 over the literature value. The new datum is considered together with evaluated nuclear data on the $A=36$, $T=2$ quintet. We find agreement with the quadratic form of the IMME given by isospin symmetry, but only coarse qualitative agreement with predictions of the GIMME. A total of three isobaric quintets have their most exotic members measured by Penning trap mass spectrometry. The GIMME predictions in the $T = 2$ quintet appear to break down for $A = 32$ and greater.

Isobaric single charge-exchange reactions, changing nuclear charges by one unit but leaving the mass partitions unaffected, have been for the first time investigated by peripheral collisions of $^{112}$Sn ions accelerated up to 1\textit{A} GeV at the GSI facilities. The high-resolving power of the FRS spectrometer allows us to obtain $(p, n)$-type isobaric charge-exchange cross sections with an uncertainty of $3.5\%$ and to separate quasi-elastic and inelastic components in the missing-energy spectra of the ejectiles. The inelastic component is associated to the excitation of the $\Delta$(1232) isobar resonance and the emission of pions in s-wave both in the target and projectile nucleus, while the quasi-elastic contribution is associated to the nuclear spin-isospin response of nucleon-hole excitations. An apparent shift of the $\Delta$-resonance peak of $\sim$63 MeV is observed when comparing the missing-energy spectra obtained from the measurements with proton and carbon targets. A detailed analysis, performed with a theoretical model for the reactions, indicates that this observation can be simply interpreted as a change in the relative magnitude between the contribution of the excitation of the resonance in the target and in the projectile.

The radionuclide $^{22}$Na is a target of $\gamma$-ray astronomy searches, predicted to be produced during thermonuclear runaways driving classical novae. The $^{22}$Na(p,$\gamma$)$^{23}$Mg reaction is the main destruction channel of $^{22}$Na during a nova, hence, its rate is needed to accurately predict the $^{22}$Na yield. However, experimental determinations of the resonance strengths have led to inconsistent results. In this work, we report a measurement of the branching ratios of the $^{23}$Al $\beta$-delayed protons, as a probe of the key 204--keV (center-of-mass) $^{22}$Na(p,$\gamma$)$^{23}$Mg resonance strength. We report a factor of 5 lower branching ratio compared to the most recent literature value. The variation in $^{22}$Na yield due to nuclear data inconsistencies was assessed using a series of hydrodynamic nova outburst simulations and has increased to a factor of 3.8, corresponding to a factor of $\sim$2 uncertainty in the maximum detectability distance. This is the first reported scientific measurement using the Gaseous Detector with Germanium Tagging (GADGET) system.

\textbf{Background}: Superallowed $0^+ \rightarrow 0^+$ $\beta$ decays of isospin $T=2$ nuclides can be used to test theoretical isospin symmetry breaking corrections applied to extract the CKM matrix element $V_{ud}$ from $T = 0,1$ decays by measuring precise $ft$ values and also to search for scalar currents using the $\beta-\nu$ angular correlation. Key ingredients include the $Q_{\textrm{EC}}$ value and branching of the superallowed transition and the half life of the parent. \textbf{Purpose}: To determine a precise experimental $Q_{\textrm{EC}}$ value for the superallowed $0^+ \rightarrow 0^+$ $\beta$ decay of $T=2$ $^{20}$Mg and the intensity of $^{20}$Mg $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$ rays through the isobaric analog state in $^{20}$Na. \textbf{Method}: A beam of $^{20}$Mg was produced using the in-flight method and implanted into a plastic scintillator surrounded by an array of high-purity germanium detectors used to detect $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$ rays. The high-resolution $\gamma$-ray spectrum was analyzed to measure the $\gamma$-ray energies and intensities. \textbf{Results}: The intensity of $^{20}$Mg $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$ rays through the isobaric analog state in $^{20}$Na was measured to be $(1.60 \pm 0.04_{\textrm{stat}} \pm 0.15_{\textrm{syst}} \pm 0.15_{\textrm{theo}}) \times 10^{-4}$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and theoretical, respectively. The $Q_{\textrm{EC}}$ value for the superallowed transition was determined to be $4128.7 \pm 2.2$ keV based on the measured excitation energy of $6498.4 \pm 0.2_{\textrm{stat}} \pm 0.4_{\textrm{syst}}$ keV and literature values for the ground-state masses of $^{20}$Na and $^{20}$Mg. \textbf{Conclusions}: The $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$-decay branch and $Q_{\textrm{EC}}$ value are now sufficiently precise to match or exceed the sensitivity required for current low-energy tests of the standard model.

A new high-precision detector for studying neutrons from beta-delayed neutron emission and direct reaction studies is proposed. The Neutron dEtector with Xn Tracking (NEXT) array is designed to maintain high intrinsic neutron detection efficiency while reducing uncertainties in neutron energy measurements. A single NEXT module is composed of thin segments of plastic scintillator, each optically separated, capable of neutron-gamma discrimination. Each segmented module is coupled to position sensitive photodetectors enabling the high-precision determination of neutron time of arrival and interaction position within the active volume. A design study has been conducted based on simulations and experimental tests leading to the construction of prototype units. First results from measurements using a $^{252}$Cf neutron source and accelerator-produced monoenergetic neutrons are presented., Comment: 17 pages, 21 Figures

We report the independent experimental confirmation of an isomeric state in the proton drip-line nucleus $^{26}$P. The ${\gamma}$-ray energy and half-life determined are 164.4 $\pm$ 0.3 (sys) $\pm$ 0.2 (stat) keV and 104 $\pm$ 14 ns, respectively, which are in agreement with the previously reported values. These values are used to set a semi-empirical limit on the proton separation energy of $^{26}$P, with the conclusion that it can be bound or unbound., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

The observed mass excesses of analog nuclear states with the same mass number $A$ and isospin $T$ can be used to test the isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME), which has, in most cases, been validated to a high degree of precision. A recent measurement [Kankainen et al., Phys. Rev. C 93 041304(R) (2016)] of the ground-state mass of $^{31}$Cl led to a substantial breakdown of the IMME for the lowest $A = 31, T = 3/2$ quartet. The second-lowest $A = 31, T = 3/2$ quartet is not complete, due to uncertainties associated with the identity of the $^{31}$S member state. Using a fast $^{31}$Cl beam implanted into a plastic scintillator and a high-purity Ge $\gamma$-ray detection array, $\gamma$ rays from the $^{31}$Cl$(\beta\gamma)$$^{31}$S sequence were measured. Shell-model calculations using USDB and the recently-developed USDE interactions were performed for comparison. Isospin mixing between the $^{31}$S isobaric analog state (IAS) at 6279.0(6) keV and a nearby state at 6390.2(7) keV was observed. The second $T = 3/2$ state in $^{31}$S was observed at $E_x = 7050.0(8)$ keV. Isospin mixing in $^{31}$S does not by itself explain the IMME breakdown in the lowest quartet, but it likely points to similar isospin mixing in the mirror nucleus $^{31}$P, which would result in a perturbation of the $^{31}$P IAS energy. USDB and USDE calculations both predict candidate $^{31}$P states responsible for the mixing in the energy region slightly above $E_x = 6400$ keV. The second quartet has been completed thanks to the identification of the second $^{31}$S $T = 3/2$ state, and the IMME is validated in this quartet.

A new detector is being developed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) to measure low energy charged-particles from beta-delayed particle emission. These low energy particles are very important for nuclear astrophysics studies. The use of a gaseous system instead of a solid state detector decreases the sensitivity to betas while keeping high efficiency for higher mass charged particles like protons or alphas. This low sensitivity to betas minimizes their contribution to the background down to 150 keV. A detailed simulation tool based on \textsc{Geant4} has been developed for this future detector., Comment: 4 pages, 7 figures

Background: Measurements of $\beta$ decay provide important nuclear structure information that can be used to probe isospin asymmetries and inform nuclear astrophysics studies. Purpose: To measure the $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$ decay of $^{26}$P and compare the results with previous experimental results and shell-model calculations. Method: A $^{26}$P fast beam produced using nuclear fragmentation was implanted into a planar germanium detector. Its $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$-ray emission was measured with an array of 16 high-purity germanium detectors. Positrons emitted in the decay were detected in coincidence to reduce the background. Results: The absolute intensities of $^{26}$P $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$-rays were determined. A total of six new $\beta$-decay branches and 15 new $\gamma$-ray lines have been observed for the first time in $^{26}$P $\beta$-decay. A complete $\beta$-decay scheme was built for the allowed transitions to bound excited states of $^{26}$Si. $ft$ values and Gamow-Teller strengths were also determined for these transitions and compared with shell model calculations and the mirror $\beta$-decay of $^{26}$Na, revealing significant mirror asymmetries. Conclusions: A very good agreement with theoretical predictions based on the USDB shell model is observed. The significant mirror asymmetry observed for the transition to the first excited state ($\delta=51(10)\%$) may be evidence for a proton halo in $^{26}$P., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, 7 tables

The thermonuclear $^{30}$P($p,\gamma$)$^{31}$S reaction rate is critical for modeling the final elemental and isotopic abundances of ONe nova nucleosynthesis, which affect the calibration of proposed nova thermometers and the identification of presolar nova grains, respectively. Unfortunately, the rate of this reaction is essentially unconstrained experimentally, because the strengths of key $^{31}$S proton capture resonance states are not known, largely due to uncertainties in their spins and parities. Using the $\beta$ decay of $^{31}$Cl, we have observed the $\beta$-delayed $\gamma$ decay of a $^{31}$S state at $E_x = 6390.2(7)$ keV, with a $^{30}$P($p,\gamma$)$^{31}$S resonance energy of $E_r = 259.3(8)$ keV, in the middle of the $^{30}$P($p,\gamma$)$^{31}$S Gamow window for peak nova temperatures. This state exhibits isospin mixing with the nearby isobaric analog state (IAS) at $E_x = 6279.0(6)$ keV, giving it an unambiguous spin and parity of $3/2^+$ and making it an important $l = 0$ resonance for proton capture on $^{30}$P.

An unexpected breakdown of the isobaric multiplet mass equation in the $A=20$, $T=2$ quintet was recently reported, presenting a challenge to modern theories of nuclear structure. In the present work, the excitation energy of the lowest $T = 2$ state in $^{20}$Na has been measured to be $6498.4 \pm 0.2_{\textrm{stat}} \pm 0.4_{\textrm{syst}}$ keV by using the superallowed $0^+ \rightarrow 0^+$ beta decay of $^{20}$Mg to access it and an array of high-purity germanium detectors to detect its $\gamma$-ray deexcitation. This value differs by 27 keV (1.9 standard deviations) from the recommended value of $6525 \pm 14$ keV and is a factor of 28 more precise. Background: The Doppler broadening of $\gamma$-ray peaks due to nuclear recoil from $\beta$-delayed nucleon emission can be used to measure the energies of the nucleons. This method has never been tested using $\beta$-delayed proton emission or applied to a recoil heavier than $A=10$. Purpose: To test and apply this Doppler broadening method using $\gamma$-ray peaks from the $^{26}$P($\beta p\gamma$)$^{25}$Al decay sequence. Methods: A fast beam of $^{26}$P was implanted into a planar Ge detector, which was used as a $^{26}$P $\beta$-decay trigger. The SeGA array of high-purity Ge detectors was used to detect $\gamma$ rays from the $^{26}$P($\beta p\gamma$)$^{25}$Al decay sequence. Results: Radiative Doppler broadening in $\beta$-delayed proton-$\gamma$ decay was observed for the first time. The Doppler broadening analysis method was verified using the 1613 keV $\gamma$-ray line for which the proton energies were previously known. The 1776 keV $\gamma$ ray de-exciting the 2720 keV $^{25}$Al level was observed in $^{26}$P($\beta p\gamma$)$^{25}$Al decay for the first time and used to determine that the center-of-mass energy of the proton emission feeding the 2720-keV level is 5.1 $\pm$ 1.0 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.6 (syst.) MeV, corresponding to a $^{26}$Si excitation energy of 13.3 $\pm$ 1.0 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.6 (syst.) MeV for the proton-emitting level. Conclusions: The Doppler broadening method has been demonstrated to provide practical measurements of the energies for $\beta$-delayed nucleon emissions populating excited states of nuclear recoils at least as heavy as $A=25$.

Background: The thermonuclear $^{34g,m}$Cl($p,\gamma$)$^{35}$Ar reaction rates are unknown due to a lack of experimental nuclear physics data. Uncertainties in these rates translate to uncertainties in $^{34}$S production in models of classical novae on oxygen-neon white dwarfs. $^{34}$S abundances have the potential to aid in the classification of presolar grains. Purpose: Determine resonance energies for the $^{34g,m}$Cl($p,\gamma$)$^{35}$Ar reactions within the region of astrophyical interest for classical novae to a precision of a few keV as an essential first step toward constraining their thermonuclear reaction rates. Method: $^{35}$Ar excited states were populated by the $^{36}$Ar($d,t$)$^{35}$Ar reaction at $E$(d)=22~MeV and reaction products were momentum analyzed by a high resolution quadrupole-dipole-dipole-dipole (Q3D) magnetic spectrograph. Results: Seventeen new $^{35}$Ar levels have been detected at a statistically significant level in the region $E_x\approx$~5.9-6.7~MeV ($E_r$ \textless~800~ keV) and their excitation energies have been determined to typical uncertainties of 3~keV. The uncertainties for five previously known levels have also been reduced substantially. The measured level density was compared to those calculated using the WBMB Hamiltonian within the $sd-pf$ model space. Conclusions: Most of the resonances in the region of astrophyical interest have likely been discovered and their energies have been determined, but the resonance strengths are still unknown, and experimentally constraining the $^{34g,m}$Cl($p,\gamma$)$^{35}$Ar reaction rates will require further experiments., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

Total fission cross sections of 181-Ta induced by protons at different relativistic energies have been measured at GSI, Darmstadt. The inverse kinematics technique used together with a dedicated set-up, made it possible to determine these cross sections with high accuracy. The new data obtained in this experiment will contribute to the understanding of the fission process at high excitation energies. The results are compared with data from previous experiments and systematics for proton-induced fission cross sections.

Production cross-sections and longitudinal velocity distributions of the projectile-like residues produced in the reactions 112Sn + 112Sn and 124Sn + 124Sn both at an incident beam energy of 1 AGeV were measured with the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer, the Fragment Separator (FRS) of GSI. For both reactions the characteristics of the velocity distributions and nuclide production cross sections were determined for residues with atomic number Z $\geq$ 10. The fragmentation of neutron-rich 132Sn nuclei produced in the fission of 238U projectiles at 950 MeV/u has been investigated at the FRagment Separator (FRS) at GSI. This work represents the first investigation of fragmentation of medium-mass radioactive projectiles with a large neutron excess. The measured production cross sections of the residual nuclei are relevant for the possible use of a two-stage reaction scheme (fission+fragmentation) for the production of extremely neutron-rich medium-mass nuclei in future rare-ion-beam facilities.
