Since the early 1990s, the injector of the CEBAF accelerator at Jefferson Lab has relied on a normal-conducting RF graded-beta capture section to boost the kinetic energy of the electron beam from 100 / 130 keV to 600 keV for subsequent acceleration using a cryomodule housing two superconducting 5-cell cavities similar to those used throughout the accelerator. To simplify the injector design and improve the beam quality, the normal-conducting RF capture section and the cryomodule will be replaced with a new single booster cryomodule employing a superconducting, β = 0.6, 2-cell-cavity capture section and a single, β = 0.97, 7-cell cavity. The Upgraded Injector Test Facility at Jefferson Lab is currently hosting the new cryomodule to evaluate its performance with beam before installation at CEBAF. The JLAB LLRF 3.0 system has been developed and is replacing the 30-year-old LLRF systems in the CEBAF accelerator. The LLRF system builds upon 25 years of design and operational RF control experience (digital and analog), and our recent collaboration in the design of the LCLSII LLRF system. The new system also incorporates a cavity control algorithm using a fully functional phase and amplitude locked Self Exciting Loop (SELAP). The first system (controlling 8 cavities) was installed and commissioned in August of 2021. Since then the new LLRF system has been operating with cavity gradients up to 20 MV/m, and electron beam currents up to 350 uA. The Jefferson Lab LLRF 3.0 system is being developed to replace legacy LLRF systems in the CEBAF accelerator. A concept for simultaneous beam delivery to all four CEBAF experimental halls from a single injector and a single main accelerator for the 12 GeV era was proposed in 2012. The original 12 GeV beam delivery plan was for a maximum of three experimental halls at a time as in the 6 GeV era. Therefore, the new concept increases the po-tential beam time for the experiments up to 33%. This change, although a major improvement in operational capabilities, required only limited modifications to the existing machine. The modifications were mainly timing and pattern changes to the beams in the injector, adding a fourth laser to the photo-cathode gun, and the addition of new RF separators to the highest pass of CEBAF. These changes are now complete and, for the first time, the full system is operating, producing four simultaneous beams through the accelerator to four different destinations. In this paper, in addition to presenting the results of the full system commissioning, we will discuss important details about the new configuration plus some of our operational challenges., Proceedings of the 10th Int. The JLab Low Energy Recirculating Facility, LERF, has been modified to support concurrent testing of two LCLS-II cryomodules. The cryomodules are installed in a similar fashion as they would be in the L1 section of the LCLS-II linac, including the floor slope and using all of the LCLS-II hardware and controls for cryomodule cryogenics, vacuum, and RF (SSA and LLRF). From the start, it was intended to use LCLS-II electronics and EPICS software controls for cryomodule testing. In affect the LERF test facility becomes the first opportunity to commission and operate the LCLS-II LINAC hardware and software controls. Support for specific cryomodule high level test applications like Q₀ and HOMs measurements, are being developed from the basic cryomodule control suite. To support the testing, 2 K He is supplied from the CEBAF south linac cryogenic system, where care must be taken when using the LERF test facility to not upset the CEBAF cryogenics plant. During the CEBAF 12 GeV Upgrade at Jefferson Lab, a fourth experimental hall, 'D', was added to the existing three halls. To produce four beams and deliver them to all halls concurrently requires new frequencies and a new timing pattern of the electron bunches. Since a photo-gun is used to produce electron bunches, the gun's drive laser pulses need to be synchronized with the required bunch rate frequencies of 499 MHz or 249.5 MHz. To meet these new operational requirements, the new LLRF system has been proposed. Very specific requirements (dual frequency operation) on one side and the simple RF drive mode operation on the other imply the use of a commercial off-the-shelf digital platform rather than a system typical for RF cavity field control. We have chosen the Texas Instruments FPGA board along with a high-speed 8-Channel, 14-Bit board, and a 4-Channel, 16-Bit board. The DAC board includes the clock generator for clocking ADCs, DACs and the FPGA. The complete Gun Laser LLRF system has been designed, built, and recently commissioned in the CEBAF Injector. JLab Electron Ion Collider (JLEIC) is planning to use the recently upgraded 12 GeV CEBAF 1497 MHz SRF CW recirculating linac as a full-energy injector for the electron collider ring. The JLEIC electron injection requires 3-4µs long bunch trains with a 20-400ms spacing in between, resulting in uneven beam loading for the CW CEBAF. With the high beam current in JLEIC collider rings, the low duty factor of injection also requires to a very high pulsed beam current from CEBAF, exacerbating the transient beam loading issue. The scheme of using a high efficiency magnetron to drive a superconducting radio frequency (SRF) accelerator cavity needs not only the injection phase locking but also the amplitude modulation to compensate the cavity's microphomics caused cavity voltage change and the beam loading variation. To be able to do a fast and efficient modulation, the magnetron's magnetic field has to be trimmed by an external coil to compensate the frequency pushing effect due to the anode current change [1]. A low eddy current magnetron body has been designed and built [2]. This paper will present the analytical prediction, simulation and experimental results on the 2.45 GHz magnetron test stand with the modulation frequency up to 1 kHz. In addition, the progresses on the injection lock to a copper cavity, new 1497 MHz magnetron prototype, 13 kW high power magnetron test stand development and newly built low level RF (LLRF) controller for the amplitude modulation will be reported., Proceedings of the 9th Int. The Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) 12 GeV upgrade reached its design energy in December of 2015. Since then CEBAF has been delivering 12 GeV beam to experimental Hall D and 11 GeV to experimental halls A and B in support of Nuclear physics. To meet this energy goal, ten new 100 MV cryomodules (80 cavities) and RF systems were installed in 2013. The superconducting RF cavities are designed to operate CW at a average accelerating gradient of 19.2 MV/m. To support the higher gradients and higher QL (3.2×107) operations, the RF system uses 13 kW klystrons and digital LLRF to power and control each cavity. The Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) energy upgrade from 6 GeV to 12 GeV includes the installation of four new 748.5 MHz normal conducting deflecting cavities in the 5th pass extraction region. The RF system employs two digital LLRF systems controlling four normal conducting cavities in a vector sum setting. Cavity tune information of the individual cavities is obtained using a multiplexing scheme of the forward and reflected RF signals. Water skids equipped with heaters and valves are used to control resonance. A new FPGA-based hardware and EPICS-based predictive control algorithm has been developed to support reliable operation of the beam extraction process. Phase lock to an SRF cavity by using injection signal through output waveguide of a magnetron has been demonstrated [1, 3]. Amplitude control using magnetic field trimming and anode voltage modulation has been studied using MATLAB/Simulink simulations [2]. Based on these, we are planning to use an FPGA based digital LLRF system, which allows applying various types of control algorithms in order to achieve the required accelerating field stability. Since the 1497 MHz magnetron is still in the design stage, the proof of principle measurements of a commercial 2450 MHz magnetron are carried out to characterize the anode I-V curve, output power (the tube electronic efficiency), frequency dependence on the anode current (frequency pushing) and the Rieke diagram (frequency pulling by the reactive load). Based on early Simulink simulation, experimental data and extension of the Adler equation governing injection phase stability by Chen's model, the specification of the new LLRF control chassis for both 2450 and 1497MHz systems are presented in this paper., Proceedings of the 7th Int. As part of the CEBAF 12 GeV upgrade at Jefferson Lab, a new experimental hall was added to the existing three halls. To deliver beam to all four halls simultaneous-ly, a new timing pattern for electron bunches is needed at the injector. This pattern change has consequences for the frequency of the lasers at the photogun, beam behavior in the chopping system, beam optics due to space charge, and setup procedures. We have successfully demonstrated this new pattern using the three existing drive lasers. The implementation of the full system will occur when the fourth laser is added and upgrades to the Low Level RF (LLRF) are complete. The Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) energy upgrade from 6 GeV to 12 GeV includes the installation of eleven new 100 MV cryomodules (88 cavities). The superconducting RF cavities are designed to operate CW at an accelerating gradient of 19.3 MV/m with a QL of 3×107. Not all the cavities were operated at the minimum gradient of 19.3 MV/m with the beam. Though the initial 12 GeV milestones were achieved during the initial commissioning of CEBAF, there are still some issues to be addressed for long term reliable operation of these modules. As a drop-in replacement for the CEBAF CW klystron system, a 1497 MHz, CW type high efficiency magnetron using injection phase lock and amplitude variation is attractive. Amplitude control using magnetic field trimming and anode voltage modulation has been studied using analytical models and MATLAB/Simulink simulations. Since the 1497 MHz magnetron has not been built yet, previously measured characteristics of a 2.45GHz cooker magnetron are used as reference. The results of linear responses to the amplitude and phase control of a superconducting RF (SRF) cavity, and the expected overall benefit for the current CEBAF and future MEIC RF systems are presented in this paper., Proceedings of the 6th Int.
