The article highlights the history of the systems crashes of the old national air traffic control system of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It cites several incidents wherein the National Airspace Data Interchange Network (NADIN) crashed as well as the effects of those system failures on passengers and on the national security. It notes that most localized air traffic control systems used in 2008 were designed in the 1960s and 1970s and installed throughout the past years. FAA spokesperson Paul Takemoto stated that the new replacement of NADIN system is not expected to go online until the end of 2008.
