This document is a letter to the editor discussing the topic of trismus, or difficulty opening the mouth, in patients with head and neck tumors who have undergone radiotherapy. The letter highlights the use of advanced radiotherapy techniques, such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy Technology (IMRT) and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), in the treatment of head and neck cancers. The study conducted a prospective cohort study on 14 patients receiving IMRT/VMAT and found a correlation between radiation doses to the masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joint and the development of trismus. The study also reported declines in nutritional status and quality of life post-treatment. Further research is being conducted to investigate additional risk factors for trismus.
