Tumor hypoxia diminishes the effectiveness of traditional type II photodynamic therapy (PDT) due to oxygen consumption. Type I PDT, which can operate independently of oxygen, is a viable option for treating hypoxic tumors. In this study, we have designed and synthesized JSK@PEG-IR820 NPs that are responsive to the tumor microenvironment (TME) to enhance type I PDT through glutathione (GSH) depletion. Our approach aims to expand the sources of therapeutic benefits by promoting the generation of superoxide radicals (O2−.) while minimizing their consumption. The diisopropyl group within PEG-IR820 serves a dual purpose: it functions as a pH sensor for the disassembly of the NPs to release JSK and enhances intermolecular electron transfer to IR820, facilitating efficient O2−. generation. Simultaneously, the release of JSK leads to GSH depletion, resulting in the generation of nitric oxide (NO). This, in turn, contributes to the formation of highly cytotoxic peroxynitrite (ONOO−.), thereby enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of these NPs. NIR-II fluorescence imaging guided therapy has achieved successful tumor eradication with the assistance of laser therapy.

The management of diabetic wounds poses significant challenges due to persistent bacterial infections and chronic inflammation caused by hyperglycemia. Herein, a sequential two‐phase treatment strategy involving a reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst in the first phase for anti‐infection is proposed, followed by a benign level of ROS in the second phase for wound regeneration. To this end, ultra‐small manganese oxide nanodots (BM‐NDs) are incorporated into a gelatin methacrylamide (GelMA) hydrogel via a ROS‐responsive linker to form GelMA@BM dressing. The BM‐NDs catalyze a self‐cascade reaction that decomposes glucose into hydrogen peroxide, generates hydroxyl radicals (·OH), and simultaneously depletes glutathione. Upon application on diabetic wounds, BM‐NDs are rapidly released from the hydrogel due to endogenous ROS exposure, leading to high levels of ·OH that effectively eliminate bacteria and promote macrophage polarization to M1 phenotype, thereby facilitating phagocytosis of bacteria. With the consumption of glucose and degradation of BM‐NDs, ROS in the wound area declines to a benign level, which stimulates polarization of M2 macrophages and promotes wound healing. This two‐phase treatment strategy based on GelMA@BM dressing demonstrates potent antibacterial and pro‐healing efficacy, showcasing its potential for clinical translation.

Mild‐temperature photothermal therapy (MPTT) is a promising tumor therapeutic modality because it can avoid the damage of normal tissues near the tumor caused by excessive heat. However, its therapeutic effect is severely impaired because tumor cells can develop heat resistance and self‐repair by activating heat shock response and cell autophagy. Herein, a tannic acid–iron ion metal organic framework‐coated, chloroquine (CQ)‐loaded mesoporous PdPt nanosystem (TF‐CQ@mPdPt) is developed to enhance MPTT by simultaneous suppression of heat shock response and autophagy. TF‐CQ@mPdPt exhibits good peroxidase (POD)‐mimic activity and photothermal performance. As a result, the reactive oxygen species generated by POD‐mediated decomposition of endogenous hydrogen peroxide damage mitochondria, leading to limitation of adenosine triphosphate supply, which suppresses the upregulation of heat shock proteins of tumor cells during MPTT, making tumor cell more sensitive to heat stress. Concurrently, CQ released from TF‐CQ@mPdPt during MPTT inhibits cell autophagy, thereby interrupting the self‐repair pathway of tumor cells. Consequently, TF‐CQ@mPdPt‐mediated MPTT significantly enhances its therapeutic effect, effectively inhibiting tumor progression in 4T1 tumor‐bearing mice. This study presents a novel strategy to enhance MPTT by simultaneously suppressing heat shock response and autophagy.

Abstract The emergence of multi‐drug resistant (MDR) pathogens is a major public health concern, posing a substantial global economic burden. Photothermal therapy (PTT) at mild temperature presents a promising alternative to traditional antibiotics due to its biological safety and ability to circumvent drug resistance. However, the efficacy of mild PTT is limited by bacterial thermotolerance. Herein, a nanocomposite, BP@Mn‐NC, comprising black phosphorus nanosheets and a manganese‐based nanozyme (Mn‐NZ) is developed, which possesses both photothermal and catalytic properties. Mn‐NZ imparts glucose oxidase‐ and peroxidase‐like properties to BP@Mn‐NC, generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) that induce lipid peroxidation and malondialdehyde accumulation across the bacterial cell membrane. This process disrupts unprotected respiratory chain complexes exposed on the bacterial cell membrane, leading to a reduction in the intracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content. Consequently, mild PTT mediated by BP@Mn‐NC effectively eliminates MDR infections by specifically impairing bacterial thermotolerance because of the dependence of bacterial heat shock proteins (HSPs) on ATP molecules for their proper functioning. This study paves the way for the development of a novel photothermal strategy to eradicate MDR pathogens, which targets bacterial HSPs through ROS‐mediated inhibition of bacterial respiratory chain activity.

The acidic microenvironment is one of the remarkable features of tumor and is also a reliable target for tumor theranostics. Ultrasmall gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) have good in vivo behaviors, such as non-retention in liver and spleen, renal clearance, and high tumor permeability, and held great potential for developing novel radiopharmaceuticals. Herein, we developed pH-sensitive ultrasmall gold nanoclusters by introducing quaternary ammonium group (TMA) or tertiary amine motifs (C6A) onto glutathione-coated AuNCs (TMA/GSH@AuNCs, C6A-GSH@AuNCs). Density functional theory simulation revealed that radiometal 89Sr, 223Ra, 44Sc, 90Y, 177Lu, 89Zr, 99mTc, 188Re, 106Rh, 64Cu, 68Ga, and 113Sn could stably dope into AuNCs. Both TMA/GSH@AuNCs and C6A-GSH@AuNCs could assemble into large clusters responding to mild acid condition, with C6A-GSH@AuNCs being more effective. To assess their performance for tumor detection and therapy, TMA/GSH@AuNCs and C6A-GSH@AuNCs were labeled with 68Ga, 64Cu, 89Zr and 89Sr, respectively. PET imaging of 4T1 tumor-bearing mice revealed TMA/GSH@AuNCs and C6A-GSH@AuNCs were mainly cleared through kidney, and C6A-GSH@AuNCs accumulated in tumors more efficiently. As a result, 89Sr-labeled C6A-GSH@AuNCs eradicated both the primary tumors and their lung metastases. Therefore, our study suggested that GSH-coated AuNCs held great promise for developing novel radiopharmaceuticals that specifically target the tumor acidic microenvironment for tumor diagnosis and treatments.

Existing belief space motion planning methods are not efficient for underwater robots that are subject to spatially varying motion and sensing uncertainties arising from the non-uniform current disturbances and landmark populations, respectively. Based on a closed-loop stochastic control framework, we propose a fast Gaussian belief space planning approach for coupled optimization of trajectory, localization and control, resulting in a non-linear programming problem (NLP). In particular, as opposed to advancing the covariance by a Kalman filter in the existing literature, we utilize an upper bound of the trace propagation of the covariance, thereby avoiding to solve Riccati equations and thus, reducing the computational complexity. The NLP is then efficiently solved by sequential quadratic programming based on the initial solutions obtained from RRT-connect. These initials lie in multiple homotopy classes guaranteed by H-signature discrimination, leading to global optimality with probability one as the number of samples in RRT-connect goes to infinity. Numerical simulations on holonomic and non-holonomic autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and an Intervention-AUV with a manipulator in cluttered underwater environments demonstrate that optimal and collision-free trajectories with low localization uncertainty are obtained efficiently.

This paper focuses on improving thermal efficiency and reducing unburned carbon in fly ash by optimizing operating parameters via a novel high-efficient swarm intelligence optimization algorithm (grey wolf optimizer algorithm, GWO) for coal-fired boiler. Mathematical models for thermal efficiency and unburned carbon in fly ash of the discussed boiler are established by artificial neural network (ANN). Based on the ANN models, the grey wolf optimizer algorithm is used to obtain higher thermal efficiency and lower unburned carbon by optimizing the operating parameters. Meanwhile, the comparisons between GWO and particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) show that GWO has superior performance to GA and PSO regarding the boiler combustion optimization. The proposed method can accurately optimize the boiler combustion performance, and its validity and feasibility have been experimentally validated. Additionally, a run of optimization takes a less time period, which is suitable for the real-time optimization.

In this paper, a frequency-adjustable tuning fork electromagnetic energy harvester is introduced. The electromagnetic vibration energy harvester can adjust its natural frequency according to a change in the environmental excitation frequency without any change to the structure. In the frequency-adjustable range, it can make the energy harvester resonant with the environment excitation, and the output frequency stays the same. The frequency-adjustable tuning fork electromagnetic energy harvester significantly increases the range of frequencies used. The operating frequency of the centre can be easily switched from 9.2 to 20 Hz, enabling the application of multiple excitation frequencies. In addition, the output power and power density are significantly increased compared to a piezoelectric tuning fork energy harvester of the same size. The peak power is 23.59 mW at 9.2 Hz, the power increases by 14.85 mW, and the power density increases by 169.88%. The experimental results show that the electromagnetic tuning fork frequency-adjustable conversion energy harvester can make the LED lamp work.

The circular Halbach array is of great application value in electromagnetic energy conversion. The Halbach array can be formed with multiple magnets according to a specific method. The magnetic flux intensity of the magnet array is concentrated and enhanced in a certain area. The concentrated magnetic flux intensity could lead to a higher rate of change in the magnetic flux when the magnet and the coil move relatively. The spatial arrangement, structural dimensions, and residual flux density of the Halbach array are the main factors affecting its performance. Some areas with almost no magnetic induction in the Halbach array affect the performance of electromagnetic energy conversion. This paper conducted a comparative study of the Halbach array and the two-directional magnet array in terms of energy conversion. The root mean square (RMS) value and phase of the induced voltage in the coil were analyzed by a finite element method. Simulation shows that the RMS value of the induced voltage in the coil is equal when the gap is 1.55 mm and the REMEH adopts either of the two magnet arrays. The two-directional array has advantages in the energy harvesting performance when the gap is less than 1.55 mm, while the Halbach array has advantages in the energy harvesting performance when the gap is greater than 1.55 mm. The experimental verification of the designed prototype was implemented in this study. The experimental voltage is in good agreement with the simulation voltage. The threshold value of the gap in the experiment is about 2 mm, which is slightly higher than the simulation value. This characteristic has a certain reference value for the application of the Halbach array in the electromagnetic field.

Abstract Immune responses stimulated by photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) are a promising strategy for the treatment of advanced cancer. However, the antitumor efficacy by PDT or PTT alone is less potent and unsustainable against cancer metastasis and relapse. In this study, Gd3+ and chlorin e6 loaded single‐walled carbon nanohorns (Gd‐Ce6@SWNHs) are developed, and it is demonstrated that they are a strong immune adjuvant, and have high tumor targeting and penetration efficiency. Then, three in vivo mouse cancer models are established, and it is found that sequential PDT and PTT using Gd‐Ce6@SWNHs synergistically promotes systemic antitumor immune responses, where PTT stimulates dendritic cells (DCs) to secrete IL‐6 and TNF‐α, while PDT triggers upregulation of IFN‐γ and CD80. Moreover, migration of Gd‐Ce6@SWNHs from the targeted tumors to tumor‐draining lymph nodes sustainably activates the DCs to generate a durable immune response, which eventually eliminates the distant metastases without using additional therapeutics. Gd‐Ce6@SWNHs intervened phototherapies also generate durable and long‐term memory immune responses to tolerate and prevent cancer rechallenge. Therefore, this study demonstrates that sequential PDT and PTT using Gd‐Ce6@SWNHs under moderate conditions elicits cooperative and long‐lasting antitumor immune responses, which are promising for the treatment of patients with advanced metastatic cancers.

New methods for obtaining large-area monolayer molecular crystals (MMCs) on hydrophobic surfaces are needed to realize the full potential of MMCs for organic electronics. Here, the authors demonstrate bottom-up growth of high-grade n-type MMCs, which show superior performance in device applications.

In this paper, a novel tuning fork structure for self-frequency up-conversion is proposed. The structure has an in-phase vibration mode and an anti-phase vibration mode. The in-phase vibration mode is used to sense the environment vibration, and the anti-phase vibration mode is used for energy conversion and power generation. The low-frequency energy collection and the high-frequency energy conversion can be achieved simultaneously. Theoretical and experimental results show that the tuning fork frequency up-conversion energy harvester has excellent performance. This structure provides the energy harvester with excellent output power in a low-frequency vibration environment. At the resonant frequency of 7.3 Hz under 0.7 g acceleration, the peak voltage is 41.8 V and the peak power is 8.74 mW. The tuning fork frequency up-conversion energy harvester causes the humidity sensor to work stably. The structure has the potential to power wireless sensor nodes or to be used as a small portable vibration storage device, especially suitable for the monitoring of the environment related to human movement.

This paper investigates formation control of multiple nonholonomic differential drive wheeled mobile robots (WMRs). Assume the communication between the mobile robots is possible where the leader mobile robot can share its state values to the follower mobile robots using the leader-follower notion. Two approaches are discussed for controlling a formation of nonholonomic WMRs. The first approach is consensus tracking based on graph theory concept, where the linear and angular velocity input of each follower are formulated using first order consensus protocol, such that the heading angle and velocity of the followers are synchronized to the corresponding values of the leader mobile robot. The second is l-φ approach (distance angle) that is developed based on Lyapunov analysis, where the linear and angular velocity inputs of each follower mobile robot are adjusted such that the followers keep a desired separation distance and deviation angle with respect to the leader robot, and the overall system is asymptotically stable.The aim of this paper is to compare the performances of the presented methods for controlling a formation of wheeled mobile robots with matlab simulations.

For a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) piezoelectric energy harvester consisting of double-clamped beams, the effects of both beam shape and electrode arrangement on the voltage outputs are analyzed. For two kinds of harvester structures including millimeter-scale and micro-scale, and different shapes including rectangular, segmentally trapezoidal and concave parabolic are taken into account. Corresponding electric outputs are calculated and tested. Their results are in good agreement with each other. The experimental results validate the theoretical analysis.

177Lu is a radioisotope that has become increasingly popular as a therapeutic agent for treating various conditions, including neuroendocrine tumors and metastatic prostate cancer. 177Lu-tagged radioligands are molecules precisely designed to target and bind to specific receptors or proteins characteristic of targeted cancer. This review paper will present an overview of the available 177Lu-labelled radioligands currently used to treat patients. Based on recurring, active, and completed clinical trials and other available literature, we evaluate current status, interests, and developments in assessing patient-specific dosimetry, which will define the future of this particular treatment modality. In addition, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities of the existing dosimetry standards to measure and calculate the radiation dose delivered to patients, which is essential for ensuring treatments' safety and efficacy. Finally, this article intends to provide an overview of the current state of 177Lu-tagged radioligand therapy and highlight the areas where further research can improve patient treatment outcomes.
