Introduction and Objectives: Epiphora caused by nasolacrimal drainage system obstruction is the main indication for dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). So are chronic conjunctivitis and dacryocystitis from the same origin. Nasal endoscopy and the introduction of laser assisted DCR have facilitated the performance of the technique. However, it requires complex and expensive equipment, so there are still supporters of the traditional external procedure. The aim of this work was to study the effectiveness and usefulness of local postoperative care in laser DCR final result., Material and Methods: We studied a group of 96 patients diagnosed with epiphora secondary to stenosis-occlusion of the nasolacrimal duct. Of these, 32 patients underwent surgery in both eyes, making a total of 128 cases. The surgery was performed in a private setting between January 1999 and December 2008. The 128 cases were divided into 2 groups: 59 cases in which between 4 and 6 postoperative cures were given in the 2 months following the surgery, and another group of 69 cases in which a single cure was given approximately 7 days after surgery. The final assessment of the outcome of the intervention was done in all cases between 24-30 months after surgery., Results: In 27 cases out of 128 (79% success), there was a restenosis of tear drainage. No statistically significant differences were found between the 2 groups., Conclusions: In the sample of patients that were intervened using laser assisted DCR, implementation of postoperative cure was irrelevant in the success of the intervention., (Copyright © 2012 Elsevier España, S.L. We expose the anatomical characteristics of the pterygopalatine fossa (FPP) and the pathology that can cause it. Below is the surgical experience in a case of schwannoma of FPP five centimeters in diameter that could be removed by transnasal endoscopic surgery, being unnecessary an external surgery. Schwannomas constitute the 8-10% of intracranial tumors, normally localized in the vestibular branch of the VIII cranial nerve. A schwannoma of a branche of the trigeminal lnerve in the pterigopalatine fossa is exceptional.

An ischaemic infarction of the anterior inferior cerebellar artery (AICA) is usually associated with vertigo, hearing loss, facial palsy, nystagmus, or truncal ataxia; it is often accompanied by other brainstem or cerebellar signs. Sudden- onset bilateral hearing loss without associated neurological symptoms is infrequent in the literature. We report a case of sudden bilateral hearing loss, later diagnosed as AICA infarction without other symptoms.

The paper deals about classical histologic and histochemical study for mucinoid substances through 7 laryngeal pieces coming from clinic autopsies. The gland units occurring in the two lower thirds of the epiglottis were formed by a great number of serous acini and mucinous tubuli, which secretion is acid and neutral mucous substances, as sialomucins, serving as lubricant and protective means. This glandular system convey through the epiglottic perforans holes, without break, the pre-epiglottic and epiglottic spaces, with the clinical repercussion that suggest the chance of encroachment for incipient epiglottic cancer to pre-epiglottic room.

A comparative study was made of endonasal dacryorhinostomy using either a 0 degree or 30 degrees rigid endoscope or a Zeiss operating microscope in 25 patients with chronic epiphora and complete stenosis of the nasolacrimal duct confirmed by dacryocystography. The success rate in both groups was similar (80%). Computed tomography is useful in post-traumatic cases.

The laryngectomees offer a good model for investigating the effect of absence of nasal ventilation in humans. Two samples has been studied: one composed for 24 laryngectomees, the other one for 54 healthy men. The clearance mucociliar time, using the charcoal power method in both specimen, and a structural and ultrastructural morphological survey in 5 cases, before and after the laryngectomy, was carried out. Normal people have a mucociliar clearance mean time of 9.3 +/- 3.6 minutes and among laryngectomized this time is 11.1 +/- 5.5 minutes, with no statistically significative differences at all (p = 0.26). Morphological outcome of the inquiry shows by the 2nd week there is a marked change in the previously transitional epithel which becomes a good ciliated epithelial one, together with an increase in number of goblet cells, and the exhibition of great dynamism in the morphological changes happening in the nasal mucous membrane, in agreement with the stop of the nose ventilation.
