The isomer depletion of ^{93m}Mo was recently reported [Chiara et al., Nature (London) 554, 216 (2018)NATUAS0028-083610.1038/nature25483] as the first direct observation of nuclear excitation by electron capture (NEEC). However, the measured excitation probability of 1.0(3)% is far beyond the theoretical expectation. In order to understand the inconsistency between theory and experiment, we produce the ^{93m}Mo nuclei using the ^{12}C(^{86}Kr,5n) reaction at a beam energy of 559 MeV and transport the reaction residues to a detection station far away from the target area employing a secondary beam line. The isomer depletion is expected to occur during the slowdown process of the ions in the stopping material. In such a low γ-ray background environment, the signature of isomer depletion is not observed, and an upper limit of 2×10^{-5} is estimated for the excitation probability. This is consistent with the theoretical expectation. Our findings shed doubt on the previously reported NEEC phenomenon and highlight the necessity and feasibility of further experimental investigations for reexamining the isomer depletion under low γ-ray background.

To explore the effect of circ_0000135/miR-140-3p/PDZ domain containing 1 (PDZK1) on the occurrence and development of cervical cancer.Clinical data were collected to verify circ_0000135/miR-140-3p/PDZK1 expression in cervical cancer. mRNA expressions of circ_0000135 and miR-140-3p were detected by real-time quantitative PCR. Correlation between circ_0000135 and miR-140-3p/miR-140-3p and PDZK1 was analyzed in vitro. Protein expression detection in cells was conducted by Western blot; while cell proliferation, invasion and cycle distribution by CCK8 assay, Transwell chamber assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Rescue and animal experiment were performed to verify the effect of circ_0000135/miR-140-3p/PDZK1 on cervical cancer.circ_0000135 and PDZK1 expressions were increased, while those of miR-140-3p were decreased in cervical cancer tissues and cells (both P 0.05). sh-circ_0000135 group had decreased cell viability, arrested cells in G0/G1 phase, decreased CyclinD1 expression, inhibited cell migration and invasion; sh-circ_0000135 group showed reduced tumor volume, weight, and lower Ki67 expression (all P 0.05). circ_0000135 had conserved target of miR-140-3p. There was a direct interaction between circ_0000135 and miR-140-3p. miR-140-3p might have direct interaction with PDZK1. sh-circ_0000135 and/or miR-140-3p treatment showed obviously decreased PDZK1 expression, decreased cell activity, arrested cells in G0/G1 phase, downregulated cell migration and invasion; sh-circ_0000135 and/or miR-140-3p mimic treatment showed obviously decreased tumor volume, tumor weight, and Ki67 expression (all P 0.05).circ_0000135 may play an anti-tumor role on the progression of cervical cancer by sponging miR-140-3p to suppress the expression of PDZK1, providing a promising therapeutic target.

$^{6}$He+$t$ cluster states of exited $^{9}$Li have been measured by 32.7 MeV/nucleon $^{9}$Li beams bombarding on $^{208}$Pb target. Two resonant states are clearly observed with the excitation energies at 9.8 MeV and 12.6 MeV and spin-parity of 3/2$^{-}$ and 7/2$^{-}$ respectively. These two states are considered to be members of K$^{\pi}$=1/2$^{-}$ band. The spin-parity of them are identified by the method of angular correlation analysis and verified by the continuum discretized coupled channels (CDCC) calculation, which agrees with the prediction of the generator coordinate method (GCM). A monopole matrix element about 4 fm$^{2}$ for the 3/2$^{-}$ state is extracted from the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) calculation. These results strongly support the feature of clustering structure of two neutron-rich clusters in the neutron-rich nucleus $^{9}$Li for the first time.

Fluorine is one of the most interesting elements in nuclear astrophysics, where the ^{19}F(p,α)^{16}O reaction is of crucial importance for Galactic ^{19}F abundances and CNO cycle loss in first generation Population III stars. As a day-one campaign at the Jinping Underground Nuclear Astrophysics experimental facility, we report direct measurements of the essential ^{19}F(p,αγ)^{16}O reaction channel. The γ-ray yields were measured over E_{c.m.}=72.4-344 keV, covering the Gamow window; our energy of 72.4 keV is unprecedentedly low, reported here for the first time. The experiment was performed under the extremely low cosmic-ray-induced background environment of the China JinPing Underground Laboratory, one of the deepest underground laboratories in the world. The present low-energy S factors deviate significantly from previous theoretical predictions, and the uncertainties are significantly reduced. The thermonuclear ^{19}F(p,αγ)^{16}O reaction rate has been determined directly at the relevant astrophysical energies.

We report the first (in)elastic scattering measurement of ^{25}Al+p with the capability to select and measure in a broad energy range the proton resonances in ^{26}Si contributing to the ^{22}Mg(α,p) reaction at type I x-ray burst energies. We measured spin-parities of four resonances above the α threshold of ^{26}Si that are found to strongly impact the ^{22}Mg(α,p) rate. The new rate advances a state-of-the-art model to remarkably reproduce light curves of the GS 1826-24 clocked burster with mean deviation9% and permits us to discover a strong correlation between the He abundance in the accreting envelope of the photospheric radius expansion burster and the dominance of ^{22}Mg(α,p) branch.

1. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of dietary taurine supplementation on growth performance, meat quality and antioxidant responses in breast muscle of broiler chickens.2. A total of 72 Arbor Acres broiler chickens (28-day-old) with similar body weight were randomly allocated into two groups, and fed either 0 g/kg (control; C) or 5 g/kg taurine-supplemented diets (TS) for 14 days.3. The results showed that TS had no effect on growth performance or chemical composition of breast muscle in broilers. The drip and cooking losses were significantly decreased (P < 0.05), and the pH24h of breast muscle were increased (P < 0.05) in the TS group. Meanwhile, broilers in the TS group exhibited significantly higher (P < 0.05) scavenging activities of superoxide and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radicals, and lower (P < 0.05) contents of carbonyl, malondialdehyde, and 4-hydroxynonenal. TS increased (P < 0.05) total antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase activities. Moreover, TS significantly upregulated (P < 0.05) the mRNA expressions of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase 1, NAD(P)H quinone dehydrogenase 1, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase.4. These findings suggested that TS enhanced antioxidative capacity and improved breast meat quality of broilers via activating the Nrf2 pathway.

Biological treatment of industrial wastewater containing heavy metal and organic pollutant has attracted extensive attention. In this study, Cr(VI) reduction coupled with phenol degradation was investigated by the sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) sludge with addition of zero-valent iron (ZVI). The results showed that the SRB wet sludge (SWS) had a good bioactivity in the reduction of Cr(VI) only when the initial concentration of Cr(VI) was below 60 mg L−1. The addition of ZVI significantly enhanced the bioactivity and reusability of SWS, and the reduction percentage of Cr(VI) achieved 98% after SWS was successively used for seven cycles. SWS coupled with ZVI showed a high activity in phenol degradation, with more than 94% phenol being degraded in each cycle. However, in the simultaneous removal of Cr(VI) and phenol, phenol degradation was inhibited due to the toxicity of Cr(VI) to phenol degrading microbes in SWS. On the other hand, reduction of sulfate and Cr(VI) was not affected by the presence of phenol, with more than 95% of sulfate and Cr(VI) being removed at the end of the 5th cycle. This study enriches our understanding on the applications of the SRB sludge in the removal of organic and inorganic contaminants in wastewater.

The purpose of this study was to explore the benefits of ketamine intervention for acute lung injury (ALI) and its effects on the receptor for advanced glycation end-product (RAGE) and toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9).Lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 3 mg/kg) was used to induce ALI rat model. Forty healthy Sprague-Dawley rats (6-8 weeks) were assigned into control, model, low ketamine (5 mg/kg), and high ketamine (50 mg/kg) groups. After 24 h, these rats were sacrificed and lungs were collected.The pathological score, lung W/D ratio, the percentage of leukocytes and epithelial in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALF), the expression levels of RAGE, TLR9, and other inflammation markers in serum and lungs were significantly higher in the Model group, indicating a good ALI model. Ketamine intervention restored all these parameters, with more benefits in the High dose group.The high dose ketamine decreased the degree of ALI by inhibiting the expression of RAGE, TLR9, TNF-α, NF-κB, IL-6 and MPO in tissues.

With the increasing severity of environmental problem, the multi-component atmosphere detection has become the research focus. In this paper, the technology based on space-based filament laser is studied in theory, simulation and experiment. When femtosecond laser pulse propagates in air, the natural direction can be restrained, and the filament laser will be generated due to the nonlinear self-focus effect. The diameter of filament laser is about 100 µm, so the laser intensity is about 1014 W/cm2 inside the filaments laser. When the filament laser interacts with the air, the pollutants are dissociated into small fragments, and the molecules and atoms are ionized. The fluorescent fingerprint spectrum will be emitted according to the special chemical composition, which can be applied in detecting the atmospheric components and identifying the pollutants. The analysis of the pollutant concentration can be performed through direct measurements of the characteristic spectral lines. Relying on the possible generation of filaments at dozens of kilometric distances, this technology can be used in remote analysis of hazardous or unreachable spots, which can carry out the real-time vertical dimensional detection in large scale continuously.

In 2014, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) approved the Jinping Underground Nuclear Astrophysics laboratory (JUNA) project, which aims at direct cross-section measurements of four key stellar nuclear reactions right down to the Gamow windows. In order to solve the observed fluorine overabundances in Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars, measuring the key $^{19}$F($p$,$\alpha$)$^{16}$O reaction at effective burning energies (i.e., at Gamow window) is established as one of the scientific research sub-projects. The present paper describes this sub-project in details, including motivation, status, experimental setup, yield and background estimation, aboveground test, as well as other relevant reactions., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables

129Nd was produced by irradiation of an enriched target of 96Ru with a 36Ar beam and studied by using a helium-jet fast tape transport system in combination with X- $ \gamma$ and $ \gamma$ - $ \gamma$ coincidence measurements. A 2.6s isomer of 129 Nd was observed for the first time and tentatively proposed to be the configuration of 1/2[411].

The proton decay of $^{53}\mathrm{Co}^{m}$($3174.1\phantom{\rule{4.pt}{0ex}}\text{keV},19/{2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$) was investigated via the fragmentation of a $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$ primary beam. The proton-decay energy was determined with an improved precision to be $1558\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}(8)\phantom{\rule{4.pt}{0ex}}\text{keV}$. With this new result and the mass of $^{53}\mathrm{Co}^{m}$, the $^{52}\mathrm{Fe}$ mass excess was derived to be $\ensuremath{-}48\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}330\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}(8)\phantom{\rule{4.pt}{0ex}}\text{keV}$, which is in good agreement with the AME12 value. A new recommended value of $\ensuremath{-}48\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}331.6\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}(49)\phantom{\rule{4.pt}{0ex}}\text{keV}$ is given.

Magnesium alloys have a strong potential for applications in structural components because of their low density. Considerable effort is currently being devoted to the development of high performance magnesiumbased materials for aerospace and outer space applications. Apart from conventional alloying practice, there has been a rapid development of particle or fiber reinforced magnesium matrix composites [1, 2]. The use of ceramics as reinforcement in magnesium alloys resulted in significant improvement of strength and stiffness. However, such strength and stiffness benefit is at the expense of a rather poor ductility [1, 2]. Quasicrystals are isotropic and possess quasiperiodic lattice structure [3]. Due to the difficulty of the movement of dislocations in the quasicrystals at room and elevated temperatures, quasicrystals exhibit high hardness and high strength [4]. Therefore, quasicrystals have been successfully used as reinforcements in metal-matrix composites [5–7]. For example, quasicrystal-reinforced aluminum matrix composites with high strength combined with good ductility have been developed by powder-metallurgical method [5, 6] and casting process [7]. Recently, it was reported that a thermal stable icosahedral quaiscrystalline phase (I-phase) with chemical composition of Mg3YZn6 was formed as a coarse eutectic structure in the α-Mg matrix during conventional solidification in Mg-Zn-Y alloy system [8]. The existence of the two-phase (I-phase + α-Mg) region in the Mg-Zn-Y alloy system provides an opportunity to develop quasicrystal-reinforced magnesium matrix composites by thermal processing. Conventional thermomechanical processes, such as hot rolling [9, 10] and extrusion [11], have been employed for the alloy system to separate and distribute the I-phase in the α-Mg matrix, thus in-situ I-phase/magnesium matrix composites with high strength and ductility have been achieved [9–11]. Equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) is a novel metal forming process to produce severe plastic strains in bulk material without changing the cross-section of the material [12]. This procedure has been recognized as one of the most effective methods in producing bulk ultra-fine grained (UFG) materials with

The values of crystalline-electric-field parameters A㎚ for RFe₁₁TiHx (R=Tb,Ho) (x=0,1) are obtained by fitting calculations to the magnetization curves along the crystal axes at 4.2 K and higher temperatures. The insertion of H element in RFe₁₁Ti significantly affects CEF parameters A㎚. By using exchange field 2μ_BHex derived by inelastic neutron scattering and fitted A㎚, the calculations reproduce the experimental curves well.

The O-14(alpha, p)F-17 reaction is one of the key reactions involved in the breakout from the hot-CNO cycle to the rp-process in type-I x-ray bursts (XRBs). The resonant properties in the compound nucleus Ne-18 have been investigated through resonant elastic scattering of F-17 + p. The radioactive F-17 beam was separated by the Center for Nuclear Study radioactive ion beam separator (CRIB) and bombarded a thick H-2 gas target at 3.6 MeV/nucleon. The recoiling light particles were measured by three Delta E-E silicon telescopes at laboratory angles of theta(lab) approximate to 3 degrees, 10 degrees, and 18 degrees. Five resonances at E-x = 6.15, 6.28, 6.35, 6.85, and 7.05 MeV were observed in the excitation functions, and their spin-parities have been determined based on an R-matrix analysis. In particular, J(pi) = 1(-) was firmly assigned to the 6.15-MeV state which dominates the thermonuclear O-14(alpha, p)F-17 rate below 2 GK. As well, a possible new excited state in Ne-18 was observed at E-x = 6.85 +/- 0.11 MeV with tentative J = 0 assignment. This state could be the analog state of the 6.880 MeV (0(-)) level in the mirror nucleus O-18, or a bandhead state (0(+)) of the six-particle four-hole (6p-4h) band. A new thermonuclear O-14(alpha, p)F-17 rate has been determined, and the astrophysical impact of multiple recent rates has been examined using an XRB model. Contrary to previous expectations, we find only a modest impact on predicted nuclear energy generation rates from using reaction rates differing by up to several orders of magnitude.

Two reactions of 14O(α,p)17F and 18Ne(α,p)21Na provide the pathways for breakout from the hot CNO cycles to the rp-process in type I X-ray bursts. To better determine their astrophysical reaction rates, resonance parameters of the compound nuclei 18Ne and 22Mg have been investigated by the resonant elastic scattering of 17F+p and 21Na+p, respectively. The 17F and 21Na radioactive ion beams were produced at the CNS Radioactive Ion Beam Separator and impinged on the thick proton targets. The excitation functions were obtained with a thick-target method over a wide excitation energy range. The resonance parameters in the compound nuclei 18Ne and 22Mg have been determined through an R-matrix analysis. New reaction rates of these two (α,p) reactions are recalculated. The astrophysical impact for the 18Ne(α,p)21Na reaction has been investigated through one-zone postprocessing X-ray burst calculations.

The β-delayed proton precursors125Nd128Pm129Sm,137Gd and139Dy near the proton drip line were produced by the irradiation of92Mo,96Ru and106Cd with an36Ar beam, and conclusively identified for the first time by using proton-gamma coincidence in combination with a He-jet tape transport system. Their half-lives were determined to be 0.60(15)s,1.0(3)s,O.55(10)s,2.2(2)s and 0.6 (2)s, respectively. The measured energy spectra of β-delayed protons and estimated proton branching ratios to the final states in “daughter” nuclei for the precursors125Nd,129Sm,137Gd and139Dy, as well as the previously reported ones for the precursors135Gd and121Ce, were fitted by a statistical model calculation. The ground-state spins and parities of121Ce,125Nd,129Sm,139Gd,137Gd and139Dy were then assigned as 5/2±,5/2±, 1/2± (or 3/2+), 5/2+,7/2+- and 7/2, respectively. The consistency between the experimental spin-parity assignment and the predicted Nilsson diagrams indirectly indicates that the ground states of121Ce,125Nd,129Sm,135Gd,137Gd and139Dy are highly deformed with β2, - 0.3.

β-delayed proton decays of T z =1/2 series nuclei 81 Zr and 85 Mo have been studied in detail by using p-γ coincidence measurement .The β-delayed proton spectra populating the first excited states of the daughter nuclei have been obtained ,half-life of 81 Zr has been neasured to be 5.3 s±0.5 s and that of 85 Mo 3.2 s±0.2s. By using statistical model calculations and systematic analyses. spins and parities for the ground states of 81 Zr and 85 Mo have been tentatively sssigned to be 3/2 - and 1/2 - , respectively. mass excess of 81 Zr is -58.3 MeV±0.2MeV and that of 85 Mo-59.1MeV +0.4MeV. Combining the measured half-lives with the calculated partial ones yields the branches of β-delayed proton decay for 81 Zr and 85 Mo of (1.2±0.2)×10 -3 and (1.4±0.2)×10 -3 ,respectively.

Unknown β-delayed proton precursor121Ce was produced via the reaction of92Mo(32S, 3n), and identified by an He-jet fast tape transport system with “P-γ” coincidence measurements. The half-life of121Ce decay was determined to be (1.1 ± 0. l)s. Its energy spectrum of β-delayed protons was measured and the β-delayed proton branching ratio for121decay was roughly estimated to be ∼ 1 %. After β-delayed proton decay of the precursors119Ba,121Ba and122La, some of γ-transitions from low-lying states to the ground states in their “daughters” were observed for the first time.

The 18Ne(alpha, p)Na-21 reaction provides a pathway for breakout from the hot CNO cycles to the rp process in type-l x-ray bursts. To better determine this astrophysical reaction rate, the resonance parameters of the compound nucleus Mg-22 have been investigated by measuring the resonant elastic scattering of Na-21 + p. An 89 MeV Na-21 radioactive ion beam was produced at the CNS Radioactive Ion Beam Separator and bombarded an 8.8 mg/cm(2) thick polyethylene target. The recoiled protons were measured at scattering angles of theta(c.m.) approximate to 175 degrees and 152 degrees by three Delta E-E silicon telescopes. The excitation function was obtained with a thick-target method over energies Ex (Mg-22) = 5.5-9.2 MeV. The resonance parameters have been determined through an R-matrix analysis. For the first time, the J(pi) values for ten states above the a threshold in Mg-22 have been experimentally determined in a single consistent measurement. We have made three new J(pi) assignments and confirmed seven of the ten tentative assignments in the previous work. The Ne-18(alpha, p)Na-21 reaction rate has been recalculated, and the astrophysical impact of our new rate has been investigated through one-zone postprocessing x-ray burst calculations. We find that the Ne-18(alpha, p)Na-21 rate significantly affects the peak nuclear energy generation rate and the onset temperature of this breakout reaction in these phenomena.

The elastic scattering of ${}^{8}$B by a ${}^{\mathrm{nat}}$Pb target was measured at an incident energy of 170.3 MeV. Special care was taken with the limited intensity and broad profile of the secondary beam. The measured angular distribution of the differential cross section shows that the Coulomb-nuclear interference peak (CNIP) is not suppressed in this system, in contrast to what was observed in the scattering of neutron halo nuclei by heavy targets at energies around the Coulomb barrier. Analyses of the angular distribution were performed both in terms of the optical model using a single-folding-type potential and the continuum discretized coupled-channels (CDCC) method, which explicitly takes into account the breakup-channel couplings to the elastic scattering. The overall pattern of the differential cross section is well reproduced by the CDCC calculations. The calculations show that the effect of breakup-channel couplings on the elastic scattering is small in the present case.

he decay of 53,54Ni, 52,53Co, 51Fe, and 50Mn was investigated via the fragmentation of a 58Ni primary beam with an energy of 68.6 MeV/u. The proton- coincidences of 53Ni -delayed proton emission were observed. Based on the analysis of the proton- coincidence events, it was inferred that the previous assignment of the excitation energy for the isobaric analog state in 53Co may be problematic. The half-lives of these nuclei were obtained, in which the uncertainty of 52Co half-life was reduced by a factor of 3. The half-lives were evaluated and used as inputs of nucleosynthesis calculations of the rapid proton-capture process in an x-ray burst.

The evolution of massive stars with very low-metallicities depends critically on the amount of CNO nuclides which they produce. The ${}^{12}$N($p,\ensuremath{\gamma}$)${}^{13}$O reaction is an important branching point in the rap processes, which are believed to be alternative paths to the slow $3\ensuremath{\alpha}$ process for producing CNO seed nuclei and thus could change the fate of massive stars. In the present work, the angular distribution of the ${}^{2}$H(${}^{12}$N, ${}^{13}$O)$n$ proton transfer reaction at ${E}_{\mathrm{c}.\mathrm{m}.}=8.4$ MeV has been measured for the first time. Based on the Johnson-Soper approach, the square of the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) for the virtual decay of ${}^{13}$O${}_{\mathrm{g}}.\mathrm{s}.$ $\ensuremath{\rightarrow}$ ${}^{12}$N+$p$ was extracted to be $3.92\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.47$ fm${}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ from the measured angular distribution and utilized to compute the direct component in the ${}^{12}$N($p,\ensuremath{\gamma}$)${}^{13}$O reaction. The direct astrophysical $S$ factor at zero energy was then found to be $0.39\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.15$ keV b. By considering the direct capture into the ground state of ${}^{13}$O, the resonant capture via the first excited state of ${}^{13}$O and their interference, we determined the total astrophysical $S$ factors and rates of the ${}^{12}$N($p,\ensuremath{\gamma}$)${}^{13}$O reaction. The new rate is two orders of magnitude slower than that from the REACLIB compilation. Our reaction network calculations with the present rate imply that ${}^{12}$N($p,\ensuremath{\gamma}$)${}^{13}$O will only compete successfully with the ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{+}$ decay of ${}^{12}$N at higher ($\ensuremath{\sim}2$ orders of magnitude) densities than initially predicted.

The nuclide130Ce was produced by a (16O, 4n) reaction on an enriched118Sn target. Reaction products were transported to a shielded location by using a heliumjet tape transport system. A 22.9 min activity in chemically separated cerium sample was identified as130Ce. The (EC+β +) decay scheme of130Ce was proposed for the first time. This scheme includes 108γ-lines, 107γ-lines among them being new. More than 13 1+ low-lying states of130La are populated in the decay of130Ce. Two new isomers with half-life of 77±10 ns and 17±5 ns were observed by means of delayedγ-γ coincidence measurements.

A detailed discussion and supplemental experimental information on the electron capture and ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\beta}}}^{+}$ decay schemes of $^{153}\mathrm{Er}$ and $^{157}\mathrm{Yb}$ proposed in our previous publications are included. The three-quasiparticle state and single-proton states assigned to $^{153}\mathrm{Ho}$ have been reproduced by a shell model calculation. The extracted quenching factor for the three-quasiparticle state was determined to be 10. The existence of the two bands in $^{157}\mathrm{Tm}$ has been explained by a triaxial deformation of the ground state of this nucleus. The experimental evidence from systematic behavior of the compiled low-energy levels indicates that the ground-state shapes change from spherical to deformed between neutron numbers N=86 and 88 in both the odd Ho and odd Tm isotopic chains. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Composite materials are heterogeneous materials on the microscopic level. For short-fiber reinforced composites, the fiber-matrix and fiber-fiber interactions play a significant role in the strength and global stiffness of the material. A unit cell model is developed to study the influence of fiber clustering patterns on the local stress distribution and global composite properties. Design variables are established to account for the variations in fiber clustering patterns, aspect ratio, volume fraction, and fiber packing. Design constraints are used to represent composite moduli, thermal coefficients of expansion, maximum interfacial stress and thermal residual stress. The model is analyzed by the p-version finite element method. The study is limited to elastic analysis. The p-version finite element method offers rapid convergence on localized stress fields using only coarse mesh and allows geometric shape variations without remeshing. Solution accuracy can be checked systematically using a series of solutions with increasing numerical complexity that is generated from a given mesh. A parametric study of the effect of fiber cluster patterns, fiber packing, and fiber aspect ratio is conducted. The study shows that the fiber cluster pattern and fiber packing has a significant impact on all of the composite properties studied.

Astrophysical 18Ne(α,p)21Na reaction is one of the most probable breakout routes, which lead to the rp-process from the hot-CNO cycle, converting the initial CNO elements into heavier elements in Type I x-ray bursters. Presently, there is no much experimental cross-section data reported at the energy of astrophysical interest, and resonant spectroscopic information in compound 22Mg is scarce as well. The experiment has been carried out by using the CNS radioactive ion beam separator (CRIB). Resonant properties in 22Mg have been studied via the resonant elastic scattering of 21Na+p, and cross section of the time-reversal reaction of 21Na(p,α)18Ne been measured simultaneously. A wide excitation energy region up to Ex ∼ 9.5 MeV in 22Mg has been scanned with a thick-target method. Some preliminary results will be reported.

Zearalenone (ZEN) is an estrogenic mycotoxin produced by severalFusariumspecies, which can contaminate food and feed. These compounds elicit a wide spectrum of toxic effects, including the capacity to alter normal immune function. In this study, the in vitro effects of the treatment of ConA-stimulated splenic lymphocytes with ZEN (0–25 μg/mL) were examined. ZEN modulates the expression of IL-2, IL-6, and IFN-γ. The IL-2 levels were up to fourfold higher (P<0.05) compared with the levels in the control at toxin concentrations of 25 μg/mL after 48 h of treatment. The IL-6 levels were critically suppressed at this concentration; these changes were very statistically significant (P<0.05). At lower ZEN concentrations (0.1, 0.4 and 1.6 μg/mL), the IFN-γlevels changed slightly; however at 6.25 and 25 μg/mL, the IFN-γresults reached statistical significance compared with the control levels (P<0.05). These data suggest that ZEN has potent effects on the expression of chicken splenic lymphocytes cytokines at the mRNA level.

Resonant properties in 18Ne relevant to the stellar reaction of 14O(α,p)17F have been investigated through a resonant elastic scattering of 17F+p. The 17F RI beam was produced via a projectile-fragmentation reaction, and subsequently separated and purified by a Radioactive Ion beam Line in Lanzhou (RIBLL). After a series of energy degradation, a 4.21 AMeV 17F beam bombarded a thick (CH2)n target at T2 terminal. Energy and angle of the recoiled protons were measured by two sets of ΔE-E silicon telescope at θlab ≈ 0°, 14° respectively. Several resonances in 18Ne were observed, and their resonant parameters including energy, spin-parity and decay width have been determined by an R-Matrix analysis of the experimental excitation function.

Based on a He‐jet apparatus coupled with a tape transport system, Very neutron‐deficient isotopes 145,147Er, 146Ho, and 129Nd were identified by p‐γ(X) or γ‐γ(X) coincidence measurements, and their radioactive decay properties were studied.

Experiments have been carried out at sub‐critical Reynolds number to investigate wing rock induced by forebody and/or wings complex flow on a 30° swept back non‐slender wings‐slender body‐model for static and dynamic (pitch‐up) cases. Four angle of attack regions have been identified based on the characteristics of FTR motion and associated flow structures at static angles of attack. For the dynamic (pitch‐up) case it has been observed that roll amplitude decreases and lag increases with increase in pitching speed. Decrease in roll amplitude with increase in pitch rate is attributed to low disturbing rolling moment due to weaker interaction between forebody and wing flow components. Forebody asymmetric vortices dominate and control the roll motion of the model in dynamic case when non‐dimensional pitch rate ≥1 × 10−2 and the roll behavior is like a sinusoidal curve. There is almost no contribution to the roll motion from the wings flow at lower angles of attack for high pitch rates.

SBA-16-type mesoporous silica materials have been synthesized within 6h under weak acidic media by adding small amount of phosphomolybdic acid and inorganic salts. The reaction products have still maintained a well-ordered body-centered cubic (Im3m) mesostructure even after treated with 100 °C water for 120 h. High hydrothermal stability might be attributed to the higher degree of polymerization and condensation of silanol groups, originated from the synergistic effect of rapid nucleation with the aid of HPMo and salt effect during the crystallization process.

The measurement of D-3-hydroxybutyrate (D-BHBA) in milk samples is an important tool for diagnosis of subclinical/clinical ketosis in dairy cows. We describe a simple UV spectrophotometric method for measuring the concentration of D-BHBA in milk of dairy cows. From two herds, 119 milk samples were taken from dairy cows. The standard-curve equation was y = 0.2582x + 0.0269 (R2 = 0.9967). The assay was highly specific with a minimum detection limit of 0.01 mmol/L and measuring range of up to 5 mmol/L. The recovery was between 99.35% and 100.22% and repeatability was 99.8%. The comparison between the spectrophotometric method and the fluorometric method revealed a close correlation (r = 0.9939). These results show that the spectrophotometric method can be successfully used as an alternative method to measure D-BHBA content in milk.

Over 50% of road traffic injury (RTI) patients experience post-traumatic acute lung injury (ALI) and it is, therefore, extremely important to identify the risk factors related to the poor outcomes associated with ALI in RTI populations. This study evaluated 19 potential risk factors associated with the outcomes of ALI in 366 RTI patients. They were divided into two groups: a ‘favourable outcomes group’ and an ‘unfavourable outcomes group’. The results indicated that the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score and the presence of gastrointestinal haemorrhage may help predict the outcomes of ALI in the early post-trauma phase of treatment. The duration of trauma and sepsis were shown to impact strongly on both the short- and long-term outcomes of ALI. Age (≥ 65 years) and disseminated intravascular coagulation in the early RTI phase were also independent risk factors for a poorer short- and long-term outcome in ALI.
