Background: Children facing challenges such as social deficiencies during childhood may struggle in social interactions and unhealthy emotional relationships, thus increasing their vulnerability to sexual addiction. The relationship between childhood traumas and sexual addiction is influenced by various factors such as social support, mental framing, and attachment styles, highlighting the importance of thoroughly examining the impact of each of these factors on this relationship. Strong scientific evidence can guide decision-makers in implementing effective measures and policies to prevent childhood traumas and sexual addiction. Aims: The present study aimed to model the structural equations of the relationship between childhood traumas and sexual addiction, with the mediating role of perceived social support, mental framing, and attachment styles. Methods: The current research employed a descriptive correlational approach and structural equation modeling. The statistical population included all virtual students in Tehran universities during the academic year 2021-2022. The sample size was determined to be 322 individuals based on the Klein formula (2011), considering the possibility of dropouts, with 370 individuals ultimately included. Data collection utilized the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (Bernstein et al., 2003), Sexual Addiction Screening Test (Carnes, 1988), and Adult Attachment Style Questionnaire (Collins & Read, 1990). The gathered data were analyzed using path analysis in LISREL and SPSS software. Results: The research findings indicate significant correlations, confirming the hypothesized correlation between variables for developing the structural equation model (p< 0.05). Conclusion: The relationship between childhood traumas and sexual addiction is influenced by various factors, including social support, mental framing, and attachment styles, underscoring the critical importance of thoroughly investigating the impact of each of these factors on this relationship. BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The World Health Organizations International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) includes Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD), a new diagnosis that is both controversial and groundbreaking, as it is the first diagnosis to codify a disorder related to excessive, compulsive, and out-of-control sexual behavior. The inclusion of this novel diagnosis demonstrates a clear need for valid assessments of this disorder that may be quickly administered in both clinical and research settings. DESIGN: The present work details the development of the Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder Diagnostic Inventory (CSBD-DI) across seven samples, four languages, and five countries. SETTING: In the first study, data were collected in community samples drawn from Malaysia (N = 375), the U.S. (N = 877), Hungary (N = 7,279), and Germany (N = 449). In the second study, data were collected from nationally representative samples in the U.S. (N = 1,601), Poland (N = 1,036), and Hungary (N = 473). FINDINGS: Across both studies and all samples, results revealed strong psychometric qualities for the 7-item CSBD-DI, demonstrating evidence of validity via correlations with key behavioral indicators and longer measures of compulsive sexual behavior. Analyses from nationally representative samples revealed residual metric invariance across languages, scalar invariance across gender, strong evidence of validity, and utility in classifying individuals who self-identified as having problematic and excessive sexual behavior, as evidenced by ROC analyses revealing suitable cutoffs for a screening instrument. CONCLUSION: Collectively, these findings demonstrate the cross-cultural utility of the CSBD-DI as a novel measure for CSBD and provide a brief, easily administrable instrument for screening for this novel disorder.

Sexual sensation seeking (SSS) describes an individual's tendency to seek novel and risky sexual stimulation. In research, SSS has been measured through the Sexual Sensation Seeking scale or by examining relevant behaviors such as unprotected sex, multiple sex partners, and unfamiliar unique sex partners. While we know that pornography use and SSS are correlated, the direction of this association is unclear. Using panel data and Bayesian Multi-level Modeling, we examined the direction of the relationship between these two constructs. Using an MTurk.com sample of 312 participants, we collected data on pornography use and SSS once a month for six months. To measure pornography use, we used a newly validated measure that assesses frequency of use, duration per viewing episode, whether pornography exposure was accidental or intentional, and how much arousal the exposure to pornography produced. To measure SSS, we used the Sexual Sensation Seeking Scale but omitted one item about pornography use to reduce the risk of a spurious finding. We observed that SSS and pornography use correlate at baseline, but their prospective predictive power is weak. These findings suggest that while SSS and pornography use tend to co-occur, we do not observe strong evidence that one causes the other. In this paper, we sought to understand whether pornography consumption causes changes in sexual sensation seeking (SSS) or whether higher SSS causes changes in pornography consumption. Background and aims: Craving is central in the definition of addictive disorders because of its diagnostic and prognostic value. Its measurement is essential in clinical practice. Previous reviews provided a better overview of existing instruments; however, they do not consider emerging substances and behaviors such as sexual addictions. Our objectives were threefold: (1) to provide a systematic review of craving assessment instruments and their psychometric characteristics within a transdiagnostic approach, (2) to highlight and map their conceptual relationships and (3) to identify potential sexual craving assessment instruments. Methods: The review was conducted using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) methodology. The PubMed, Embase, PsychInfo and Cochrane/Central databases were searched for publications that met the following inclusion criterion: validation studies of craving assessment instruments, regardless of target substance or behavior. The original search identified 4561 references and included 147 articles. Each selected study was a peer‐reviewed publication. Results: This review provides a synthesis of the psychometric properties of 36 original instruments and identified 93 variations of these instruments (e.g. translations). We were able to highlight five transdiagnostic families of instruments, each corresponding to a conceptual model. Only one instrument for assessing craving in the domain of compulsive sexual behavior, focused on pornography use, has been identified: the Pornography Craving Questionnaire. Conclusion: This review mapped all craving assessment instruments from a transdiagnostic perspective, finding 36 original instruments and 93 variations. The evolution of instruments to measure craving mirrors the evolution of the concept of craving which has progressively integrated cognitive, conditioning and sensory dimensions, and attests to the importance of the context of assessment. Aim: Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) is a new category in ICD-11. Research examining underlying brain mechanisms is sparse. Research into neurobiological differences can be helpful in advancing the possibilities of new diagnostic approaches and therapeutic methods. The present study aimed to examine brain matter volume and resting state functional connectivity (rs-FC) in CSBD. Methods: Structural and rs-FC magnetic resonance imaging and data from questionnaires were collected in 30 men with CSBD and 32 age- and education-matched controls. Whole brain voxel based morphometry (VBM) and seed based rs-FC in a-priori defined seeds were analyzed. Results: Structural analyses showed that men with CSBD had significantly increased gray matter volume in the right cerebellum, middle occipital and superior frontal lobe. No differences in rs-FC could be detected when using these brain structures as seed regions in rs-FC. In contrast, literature based rs-FC analysis revealed decreased rs-FC between the right orbital middle frontal cortex (mOFC) and the right gyrus rectus, as well as between left pallidum and right post/precentral gyrus in men with CSBD. In the left amygdala we observed increased rs-FC with precuneus in this group. In addition, most of these measures correlated with symptom severity. Conclusion: Structural findings may underscore the idea that the cerebellum plays an important role in sexual arousal and CSBD. Perhaps, a simultaneous activation of the left amygdala and the precuneus reflects a constant sexual occupation of men with CSBD. Furthermore, lower connectivity between mOFC and gyrus rectus in CSBD may support the assumption that sexual stimuli are evaluated more positively because inhibition is decreased. There is an ongoing scientific debate about the conceptualization of problematic online sexual activity (OSA). It is challenging to choose the proper instrument for assessing the phenomena. In this context, the newly developed Online Sexual Activity Scale (OSAS) might bring a new insight as it proposes to go beyond the nosological polemics. The OSAS elaborated in this compensatory framework incorporates criteria for conceptualizations of OSA as both addiction and compulsivity. A large sample of N = 5094 adults were recruited via convenience sampling on social networking platforms. Confirmatory factor analyses provided evidence for the one-factor structure of the OSAS with good fit indices and adequate reliability. The utility of the OSAS as a possible screening tool for identifying individuals with an elevated risk of problematic cybersex activity needs elucidation in future studies. Background and aims: Hypersexual disorder is characterized by recurrent and intense sexual fantasies, sexual urges, or sexual behaviors that can lead to clinically relevant levels of distress and adverse consequences for affected individuals. Earlier research has established a connection between sexual phenomena, such as compulsive sexual behavior, and personality features. The aim of the present study was to gain further insights into the associations of personality maladjustment and HD. Methods: The present study applied the dimensional approach of personality maladjustment presented in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) to connect compulsive sexual behavior to personality maladjustment. We investigated 47 men suffering from HD (age: M = 36.51, SD = 11.47) and 38 matched men without HD (age: M = 37.92, SD = 12.33) regarding personality maladjustment using a 100-item version of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5-BF). Results: The men with HD showed higher levels of personality maladjustment regarding all PID-5-BF domains (negative affect, detachment, psychoticism, antagonism, and disinhibition) and significantly differentiated from men without HD in the level of subordinate facets. However, no domain of personality differentiated significantly between groups using a binary stepwise logistic regression analysis. Discussion and conclusions: In sum, the findings of the study underline the extent of personality maladjustment in men with HD. Interpersonal difficulties which men with HD frequently experience can contribute to clinically relevant levels of distress and adverse consequences reported by affected individuals. Introduction: Sexual addiction is known as a disorder that afflicts a person with difficulty in controlling or delaying sexual behaviors. To prevent social, physical, and psychological consequences, validated screening tests are needed to diagnose this disorder. One of these tests is established by Carnes with the name of sexual addiction screening test-revised (SAST-R). In this study, SAST-R has been translated and verified in the Persian language. Methods: The original screening test was translated into the Persian language and also backtranslated for matching by two separate expert teams. The data was collected through an online survey of 1268 participants who were in the age range of 18 to 65 years (Mean±SD 29.44±6.90), and 56.1% and 43.9% of the population were women and men, respectively. Three questionnaires, including the SAST-R, the hypersexual behavior consequences scale, and the Connor-Davidson resilience scale as the principal, convergent, and divergent tests were administered to the participants. Results: The reliability of the test's internal consistency (Cronbach α=0.883), split-half (Cronbach α=0.779), and Guttman (lambda coefficients were between 0.773 to 0.883) tests were used. In addition, 4 methods of content validity (sexual hyperactivity specialist approved), convergent structure validity (P<0.001, R=0.731), the validity of divergent structure (P<0.09, R=-0.132), and factor validity (comparative fit index=0.884, goodness of fit index=0.873, root mean square error of approximation=0.047) were measured and confirmed the validity of the test. Love addiction is increasingly gaining attention in academic literature, but it is often discussed as associated with other conditions, above all sex addiction, despite the lack of data supporting this choice. Our study examined the relationship between love addiction and sex addiction and the degree to which they are influenced by perceived social support. The study involved a clinical and a control group of 497 and 409 participants respectively. The clinical group showed significantly higher levels of love addiction and sex addiction, as well as lower levels of social support. Love and sex addiction were significantly correlated, whereas social support correlated with love addiction and, only in the clinical group, with sex addiction. Overall, the results seem to suggest that the constructs of love addiction and sex addiction are correlated but the overlap between the two is low. Compulsive sexual behavior (CSB) is associated with religiosity and moral disapproval for sexual behaviors, and religiosity and moral disapproval are often used interchangeably in understanding moral incongruence. The present study expands prior research by examining relationships between several religious orientations and CSB and testing how moral disapproval contributes to these relationships via mediation analysis. Results indicated that religious orientations reflecting commitment to beliefs and rigidity in adhering to beliefs predicted greater CSB. Additionally, moral disapproval mediated relationships between several religiosity orientations and CSB. Overall, findings suggest that religiosity and moral disapproval are related constructs that aid in understanding CSB presentations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

L'article vise à partager des constats théoriques, cliniques et techniques dans la prise en charge des sujets qui présentent une addiction sexuelle sévère. À partir de recherches théoriques et d'une pratique clinique confrontée à la clinique des addictions sexuelles, nous examinons des modèles (PFT) qui nous ont amené à concevoir un dispositif de psychothérapie psychanalytique centré sur le lien transférentiel intégrant les travaux de Kernberg, Fonagy, Bateman, mais également ceux mis en perspectives par Anzieu, Bouvet et Roussillon en France. Si ces modalités de cadre et d'interprétation techniques ont été d'abord pensées pour une population de sujets borderline, nos constats cliniques empiriques tendent à vérifier la valeur performative d'un dispositif thérapeutique psychodynamique centré sur le lien auprès des sujets présentant une addiction sexuelle sévère. Si l'efficacité des traitements pharmacologiques, des thérapies cognitives ou de groupes a été démontrée dans la prise en charge des sujets présentant une addiction sexuelle sévère, aucune étude randomisée contrôlée pour l'heure n'existe afin de vérifier l'efficacité d'une psychothérapie analytique centrée sur le lien auprès de cette population. L'article livre ici des résultats qualitatifs empiriques et tend à ouvrir le dialogue avec d'autres méthodologies psychothérapeutiques pour penser une offre diversifiée de modèles de soins adaptés à cette population. The article aims to share theoretical, clinical, and technical findings on the treatment of subjects with severe sexual addiction. Based on theoretical research and clinical practice with sex-addicted patients, we examine the models (PFT) which led us to conceive of a psychoanalytical psychotherapy centered on the transferential link integrating the works of Kernberg, Fonagy, Bateman, but also those put into perspective by Anzieu, Bouvet, and Roussillon in France. If these modalities of framework and technical interpretation were first developed for a population of borderline subjects, our empirical clinical findings tend to verify the performative value, for subjects presenting a severe sexual addiction, of a psychodynamic therapeutic process centered on the link. Although the efficacy of pharmacological treatments, cognitive therapies, or group therapies has been demonstrated in the treatment of subjects with severe sexual addiction, no randomized controlled study currently exists to verify the efficacy of a bonding-focused analytical psychotherapy with this population. The article provides empirical qualitative results and opens a dialogue with other psychotherapeutic methodologies in order to think about a diversified offer of care models adapted to this population. Aims: Sex addiction is one of the hidden problems that due to the young population of the country, difficult marriage for the young generation and some personality and mental disorders in recent years, more attention has been paid to it and its taboo state as in previous years. is not. In the present study, the relationship between dark personality triads and sexual addiction in female students in Mashhad was investigated. Materials & Methods: Present descriptive study includes all female students in Mashhad who due to the prevalence of coronary heart disease using the available sampling method, the dark three personality questionnaires as well as the SAST-T sexual addiction questionnaire. It should be noted that due to the prevalence of the corona pandemic, the questionnaires were provided to the subjects through cyberspace (Telegram, WhatsApp, and email). Findings: The results of this study show that there is a 0.37 relationship between sexual addiction and Machiavellianism, which is a low level according to Cohen's classification, but 0.87 between sexual addiction and anti-socialism and between sexual addiction and narcissism 0.69 there is a relationship that is strong at the Cohen classification level. Conclusion: According to the obtained data, it can be inferred that there is no significant relationship between sexual addiction and Machiavellianism. But there is a significant positive relationship between sexual addiction and anti-socialism as well as between sexual addiction and narcissism.
