Medicolegal case is any medical case with legal implications. This study was aimed to know the profile of medicolegal cases registered at the casualty of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar medical college, Benaluru, Karnataka. This study was conducted from January 2015 to June 2015. A total of 819 medicolegal cases were studied and analyzed. We found that males were involved in 68.74% cases and females in 31.25% cases and the male to female gender ratio was 2.19 : 1. Common indications for registering medicolegal case were assault (50.3%), poisoning (18.43%), Road traffic accident (RTA-12.33%), medical check-up of accused (6.83%) and drunkenness certification (6.22%). The commonly used weapon for assault was hard and blunt weapons (63.83%). Victims riding two wheelers accounted for 51.48% of RTA. Most common manner of poisoning was suicidal (83.44%).

Suicidal tendencies are increasing at an alarming rate all over the world. Hanging is one of the common method of committing suicide and is considered as a painless form of death. This prospective study was conducted among victims of hanging brought to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar medical college mortuary, Bengaluru during June 2016 to December 2016. A total of 118 cases of alleged hanging were selected for this prospective study. The pattern of hanging revealed from this study showed a male predominance. The maximum number of cases were in the 21 to 30 years age group. Overall the most common ligature material used for hanging was saree and dupatta. Hanging was typical in 06 cases (5.08%) and atypical in 112 cases (94.91%). Salivary dribble marks was seen in 29 (24.57%) cases and protrusion of tongue present in 37 (31.35%) cases. The direction of ligature mark was oblique in 105 (88.98%) cases and transverse in 13 (11.01%) cases. Ligature mark was above the thyroid cartilage in 92.37% cases and over the thyroid cartilage in 7.62% cases. Hyoid bone fracture was noted in 05 cases and thyroid cartilage fracture was seen in 01 case.

Aluminium phosphide is a solid fumigant pesticide, insecticide and rodenticide. Aluminium phosphide is used as a poison either by inhalation or ingestion. Poisoning is usually suicidal, occasionally accidental and rarely homicidal. It is commonly known as an agent of sure death in the medical profession. Electrical injuries are potentially devastating with high degree of morbidity and mortality. Deaths due to electrocution need to be thoroughly investigated and documented for reasons of compensation and for instituting future measures in relation to safety and prevention. In the present case, the deceased sustained electrocution while working at a function pandal and died on the spot. An attempt is made to discuss about electrocution and related injuries.

Starvation is regular and continuous deprivation of food and drink, both necessary for the maintenance of sound health and normal active life of a person. A case is presented wherein an elderly male was reported to have died of starvation.
