Abstract: Recent advancements in access to U.S. Census data now present even moderately skilled analysts with the ability to perform sophisticated and relatively more accurate human life value estimates. This article identifies the added value associated with investigations using actual census data to provide more succinct, defensible, and subject-specific estimates. An example is presented that compares three differing approaches to such estimates as a means of delineating the value associated with a more rigorous statistical approach relying on actual census data. Additionally, the appendix includes a step-by-step description ofthe analytic process used in the example described in the article. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
