This study seeks to improve and expand an online tutoring program in one teacher preparation institution in a northwestern area of the United States. To better serve rural area students learning and provide teaching experience in remote places for preservice teachers, this study developed an online tutoring program to produce effective online tutors. This study also explores preservice teachers' perceptions on education and their willingness to serve in remote school districts. The results display that the preservice teachers were able to increase their self-efficacy, skills, and attitude toward rural areas through their online tutoring experiences. These participants also pointed out their reasons for being willing to or not wanting to teach in rural areas. This study aims to analyze and compare elementary math textbooks from Taiwan, focusing on two aspects--subjective designing considerations and objective content displays. Three widely-used textbooks from different publishers were chosen because of their high rate of use in the school districts. The study adopted the following pathways to analyze the textbooks' subjective design considerations and obtain useful information: interviewing with content analysis, dialoguing with mathematics problems as a unit, and combining various relevant components, such as design considerations, teacher's application, and students' learning. In addition, this study analyzed textbooks' objective content displays by examining how these textbooks displayed the problems or content of particular mathematics problems. In regards to subjective design considerations, the study showed that these textbooks encouraged teachers to use the textbook materials and activities to guide students in learning necessary knowledge and skills. All three textbooks emphasized connections between mathematics and real life as well as developing students' thinking abilities. For the objective content displays, all three textbooks expressed lower cognitive problems (80%) and scenario problems (50%), giving higher weight to written-language problems. In conclusion, the study found that the three textbooks have a high degree of similarity in subjective design considerations and objective content displays, even though all three textbooks defined themselves as having multiple roles and functions. This article explores how social science literature views dogmatism and how the documents of the Catholic Church and her teachings are seldom regarded in the conceptualization of the human person, specifically focusing on the helping professions. This article examines dogmatism from a Catholic anthropological perspective and with a full appreciation for the Catholic intellectual tradition. It will be shown how through basic clinical skills, one can believe the teachings of the Church’s Magisterium and still be an effective and ethical counselor.
